The FCC just gave you a reason to hold off on buying a 4K TV

The FCC just gave you a reason to hold off on buying a 4K TVOver-the-air 4K broadcasts are coming, but you might want to hold off at getting a new UHD set just yet. The Federal Communications Commission voted Thursday to open discussions on the deployment of a next-generation broadcast-TV standard that should offer picture quality up to 4K Ultra High Definition and better antenna reception than today’s over-the-air digital signals. Like 2009’s transition to digital TV signals, this upgrade’s primary sales pitch is about a better picture — not just high definition, but the Ultra High Definition (UHD) 4K resolution that today remains largely confined to streaming-video services and Blu-ray discs.

For Dwayne Johnson, Taraji P. Henson and Kate McKinnon, Oscar Rehearsals Are Full of Laughs—and Selfies

When the curtains part and Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monáe walk to center-stage at the Dolby Theatre Saturday morning to rehearse lines they’ll deliver at the 89th Academy Awards on Sunday, Spencer for one can’t hide her goofy exuberance.

“I’m so excited!”, says the Oscar-nominated actress, casual in a grey sweater and wearing no make-up, while surveying the orchestra seats emblazoned with cardboard name-cards and head-shots of the likes of Emma Stone, Matt Damon and Meryl Streep

“I’d like to thank the Academy for opening the curtains for such a grand entrance!”

The Hidden Figures co-stars, who at one point playfully strike a dramatic Charlie’s Angels pose, pretend guns aloft, are among the first to kick off a steady stream of A-listers to breeze in and out of the theater for rehearsals early Saturday.

Watch the PEOPLE & EW Red Carpet Live Oscars pre-show on Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT on the People/Entertainment Weekly Network (PEN). Go to PEOPLE.com/PEN, or download the app on your favorite device. Then watch our Red Carpet Fashion Wrap-Up after the Oscars!

“Dwayne Johnson is here!” announces a member of the production crew into his head-set as the upbeat Moana actor saunters onto the stage. Nailing his lines after a few minutes, Johnson pulls out his iPhone and asks a stage hand to snap a photo of him in a celebratory pose with the backdrop of the near-empty theatre. Spotting his own make-shift head-shot affixed to an orchestra seat, the Rock points and says, “Oh, there I am!”

The star power is non-stop: Samuel L. Jackson, wearing a sweatshirt and baseball cap turned backwards, snaps a commemorative selfie from the stage; David Oyelowo, with his wife and four kids in tow to watch him rehearse, claps when a “winner” is announced; Henson is handed an Oscar trophy to simulate presenting but instead pretends to steal it and runs off stage while giggling.

Some actors stop to take in the moment. Scarlett Johansson, in a cropped jacket and clogs, looks around the auditorium and art-deco-inspired stage design and says, “It’s very glamorous!”

RELATED VIDEO: Is an Oscar Really Only Worth $ 1?!

While most wear sneakers during rehearsal, presenter Kate McKinnon, otherwise casually dressed in a grey hoodie and a black long coat, slips on a pair of high-heel shoes to practice walking across the Oscar stage. But once she learns her lines and gives out several pretend Oscars, McKinnon is right back in her flats — and out the door.

The Academy Awards kicks off live on ABC on Sunday, Feb. 26, with a 7 p.m. ET pre-show and 8:30 p.m. ceremony. See all the Oscar nominees and get your own ballot here!

The Barbera Playbook

When Tengram Capital Partners purchased the majority stake in Luciano Barbera in October 2014, the private equity firm saw the brand as a dia-mond in the rough.
Although the label was well respected and had been around since the mid-Sixties, it had a small presence — particularly in the U.S. Its biggest customers were European specialty stores seeking luxury sportswear with a focus on knits.
But over the past 2 1/2 years, Tengram has built teams in New York and Milan to completely revamp the brand, touching everything from the product design and the marketing while expanding its wholesale and own-retail presence.
“We’ve created a playbook for the company,” said Todd Barrato, who joined Barbera as global chief executive officer when Tengram bought its controlling stake. Barrato was formerly the ceo of North American operations for Brioni. He’s also the son of former Brioni chief Joe Barrato.
“The brand was stagnant,” Barrato said. “It had a great name that was never jeopardized, but the family was not capable of taking it to the next level.”
Luciano Barbera, the man, was considered to be among the most elegant gentlemen in the world. His family owned the Carlo Barbera fabric mill in Biella, Italy. According to company

Fabrizio Viti Takes Takes His Shoes on the Road in California

Italian shoe guru Fabrizio Viti, who unveiled his first collection last July, took his newest shoes on the road for a pair of trunk shows with Barneys New York in San Francisco and Beverly Hills this week.
While Viti is based in Paris (his “day job” as style director of women’s shoes at Louis Vuitton keeps him in the City of Light), he said that his favorite place to shop is Barneys.
“I never think about the business part; I design the collection, you know? But when it was time to be [in a store] somewhere, my first wish was Barneys because that’s where I would go in New York in the Nineties, so I’ve always aspired to be here,” he said.
Looking around the multibrand shoe department, he said, “It’s funny, I’ve probably designed many of the shoes that have been here over the years,” referring to his past stints working with Tom Ford at Gucci, Miuccia Prada and also Marc Jacobs during his tenure at Vuitton.
Viti’s trunk show was preceded by a lunch at Freds hosted by Katherine Ross and Alexia Niedzielski that drew Gaia Repossi, Jaclyn Smith, Tara Subkoff, Alice Eve, Rochelle Gores Fredston, Joséphine de La Baume, Rebecca de Ravenel,

It felt like Roberto Rimondi and Tommaso Aquilano chiseled their women out of a block of ice that’s been in cold storage since the Eighties. Straight from the boardroom, much of the collection was an ode to stone cold power dressing, with retro references abundant in broad, sharp-shouldered tailored jackets, some long, some cropped, in mannish black, gray, pinstripes and checks. On the bottom were asymmetrical skirts, high-waisted carrot shaped pants and even some biker shorts. The total look telegraphed something very retro-future. All of it was well-made and nicely cut, classic enough that it could thaw into something more current when styled with softer, more casual stuff.
The latter half of the show had rounder, warmer edges with similar silhouettes done in deep colors — magenta, blue and purple. A velvet off-the-shoulder dress worn over a starched button-down shirt will have a completely different attitude on its own. Likewise dresses done in steel and aluminum embroidery. Despite the hardware, the dresses had supple shape and movement.

Kate Beckinsale Shines at Piaget Pre-Oscar Party in Hollywood Hills

Seems like there are a lot of 10-year anniversaries during Oscar Week this year. Essence celebrated a decade of its Black Women in Hollywood event on Thursday, Women in Film toasted the same miletone for its Oscar nominees party on Friday, and Swiss watch and jewelry maker Piaget is also celebrating its 10th year of Oscar weekend initiatives.
Since 2007, Piaget has been presenting sponsor for the Film Independent Spirit Awards, the show honoring indie films and actors, which takes place the day before the Oscars on the beach in Santa Monica. This year, the company also threw a lavish cocktail bash in a private home in the Hollywood Hills to showcase some of its high jewelry pieces created for the Oscars red carpet.
Piaget ambassador Jessica Chastain was to be the party’s guest of honor, but at the last minute was unable to make it to town. Luckily, event cohost The Weinstein Company had also invited its talent roster, which included Kate Beckinsale and young “Lion” star Sunny Pawar. Saroo Brierley, the real-life inspiration for the film, as well as actors Sam Heughan, Billy Brown, Paz Vega and director John Singleton.

‘I’m Done’: Patrick Stewart Says He’s Retiring From X-Men Movies

The X-Men may have to find a new mutant to seek guidance from.

Patrick Stewart has announced that he is retiring from the “X-Men” movie franchise after 17 years portraying the sage mutant leader Professor Charles Francis Xavier ― a.k.a. “Professor X.”

The 76-year-old British actor shared his decision during a SiriusXM Town Hall discussion on his upcoming X-Men film “Logan.” The full discussion and the film are slated for release on March 3, Entertainment Weekly reported Friday.

Speaking beside his “Logan” costar Hugh Jackman and the film’s director and co-writer James Mangold, Stewart said he came to the decision after watching the latest installment about a week ago and finding himself moved to tears.

“I sat there I realized there will never be a better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie,” he said.

Jackman, who has also confirmed that he is leaving the franchise after starring as Wolverine, was one of the first people he said he shared the news with.

“I told [Jackman] that same evening, ‘I’m done too. It’s all over,’” Stewart said.

Stewart has starred in six of the X-Men movies preceding “Logan.” These are “X-Men” (2000), “X-Men 2” (2003), “ X-Men: The Last Stand” (2006), “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” (2009), “The Wolverine” (2013), and “X-Men: Days of Future Past” (2014).

19 Reasons Your Obsession With Dev Patel Is Justified

We need to talk about Dev Patel

The 26-year-old British Indian actor could walk away with the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Lion.” In the film, Dev plays Saroo Brierley, a man desperately searching for his family in India after being separated from them at the age of 5.

It’s a great, fiery performance that deserves recognition in and of itself, but there’s another reason we’re rooting for him. Just read this tweet:

That is a huge deal. On-screen representation matters, and it’s especially important for Asian actors. According to a 2016 diversity study, Asian actors nabbed only 3.9 percent of speaking roles in film ― a stark contrast from the 73.7 percent white actors receive.

That’s not the only reason we’re pulling for Dev to win an Oscar, though. Below, a few reasons why we’re obsessed with the Oscar-nominated actor:

— Before receiving all this Oscar buzz for “Lion,” Dev was in 2008’s massive hit “Slumdog Millionaire” and was equally amazing in that. Remember when he danced like this and low-key stole your heart?

— He was also great on HBO’s “The Newsroom,” playing a blogger and the office’s resident computer geek.

— He was super cute back then, of course.

— But right around the time of “The Newsroom,” something began to change. Our nerdy-cute pretend boyfriend started to grow into his looks in a major way. It’s like one day the hair gods smiled down at Dev and said, “Hey, ‘Slumdog’ guy, it’s time to grow out that hair and drive everyone crazy with lust for your locks.”

And grow it out he did. The swooshy-hair era began and nothing has been the same since. Dev has pretty much blossomed into full babe mode now.

Woah, right?

— Those curls.

Seriously, THOSE CURLS.

— And dat smile.

— He also has a beautiful, classical profile. And the beard is good, too. (Let’s give credit where credit is due, guys.)

— He’s so good at posing for photo shoots, his side hustle should be modeling. (But please don’t stop acting, Dev.)

— Then there’s his accent. Dev pulls off a pretty convincing Aussie accent in “Lion,” but his real-life British lilt will melt your heart.

Sigh. Please never stop touching your hair.

— All awards season long, Dev has been a big booster of Sunny Pawar, the adorable 8-year-old who plays the younger version of his character in “Lion.”

Like, he literally boosts him up:

Sunny very impressively carries the first half of “Lion” all by himself and Dev gives him credit for that every chance he gets.

“He’s so incredible in this film, and I share this nomination with him in a big way,” Dev told the Los Angeles Times recently.

Don’t pretend you weren’t deeply affected by the cuteness of their introduction of “Lion” at the Golden Globes.

Same, girl, same.

— Who’s he taking to the Oscars? Apparently, his mom, Anita. “That’s her moment,” he told the LA Times. “I’m her guest.”

D’aww. Here they are at a 2009 British awards party.

Gotta love a man who respects his mama.

— We also want him to win because we’re positive he’d be so humble and bashful during his acceptance speech. Just look at how he reacted to his name being called for his SAG award nomination.

— And in spite of all the Oscar buzz surrounding him, Dev realizes we’re living in politically tumultuous times and there’s weightier things happening in the world right now. Here’s what he told the LA Times on the SAG Awards red carpet:

“At times like this, you’re constantly questioning what you’re doing at awards like this or promoting a movie. It feels so pointless. I look to the people around me and they remind me the message of this film, of the art we’re trying to inject into the world right now. It’s about unification,” he added. “When I think about that, it makes me have a little bit more strength.”

— Oh, and another thing: He’s an animal lover. (Dev + doggo = happy us. And loud squee-ing noises, to be honest.)

— On another shallow note, boy fills out a suit quite well.

— And in case you were wondering, he has a mean street-style game, too.

— We’re in good company in our Dev devotion. Ellen DeGeneres gave him the title of “Sexiest Man Alive” when he visited the show back in January. So well deserved, even if Dev was like, “Aw, shucks, me?”

And his “Lion” co-star Nicole Kidman recognizes his swag as well.

Watch out, Keith Urban.

— Heck, even his ex-girlfriend and “Slumdog Millionaire” co-star Freida Pinto gave him props on Instagram for his Best Supporting Actor Oscar nom.

So clearly, he’s best supporting ex-boyfriend, too.

Now would be a good time to mention what a ridiculously good-looking couple they were a few years back.

So pretty.

— Lastly, Dev’s work on “Lion” didn’t end when he was done filming. He’s been busy promoting #LionHeart, a social impact campaign which will provide financial support to the over 11 million children who live on the streets of India. Here’s our boy asking people to contribute:

In conclusion, Dev Patel is a super talented actor and a stand-up guy with amazing hair.

Cheers to you, Dev. We’re pulling for you and your epic curls Sunday night!

Impeachable: A New Kind Of Protest Song

People have been wondering what folksinger/activists, some of them septuagenarians like Noel Paul Stookey and me, might be doing in the face of the current cataclysmic challenges to our democracy and our nation.

The answer is simple: we are going to keep on keeping on. We inherited a legacy from Woody, Pete Seeger and the Weavers and many others who inspired us. They never quit, never stopped and never stopped advocating. Doing so is “in our blood” and it’s a great gift to both Noel and me, as it would be to Mary – were she still to be with us. She would join, even (or maybe especially) at our advanced age, the current advocacies that “hammer out a warning”, “ring out danger” and “sing about the love between our brothers and our sisters”.  No, we’ve not “gone away”. We, and others who also come from the folk music/activist tradition, are solidly committed to using our music to generate community and consensus at our concerts and at gatherings and demonstrations to confront the most dangerous of challenges now threatening our country.

I have written, and currently perform, two songs that have come out of the presidential campaign and its results, one being The Children Are Listening and the other being, Lift Us Up.  I am grateful that, in a limited context (for sure) both of these songs have become rallying points for efforts to assert what is good in ourselves and what is reprehensible and frightening in the face of the recent election.

By far the most important effort yet, by either Noel Paul or me – in terms of its reach and, in my opinion, its brilliance – is Impeachable, a parody Noel wrote of the song Unforgettable, which was a huge hit by Nat King Cole from the early 1950s.  Impeachable was just released on the internet and went viral with, currently, over 800,000 hits.  (Please share this link with your buddies and help us spread the message.)

Impeachable is an example of Noel’s extraordinary ability to write a super-funny, very surprising yet also, highly nuanced, lyric. He is, and has always been, an amazing songwriter. In its first public performance last weekend Impeachable brought the audience at our concert in Thousand Oaks, CA to its feet with a prolonged standing ovation. There were screeches of delight the likes of which I have never before heard at a Peter Paul and Mary concert.

Noel has clearly struck a hugely resonant chord amongst those who heard the hammer strokes warning of a grave danger to our nation, our democracy and, in fact, the whole earth.

Impeachable is a new twist on the kinds of songs that Peter Paul and Mary were singing that helped to mobilize Americans at the time of the Civil Rights Movement and the Anti-Vietnam War Movement.   Blowing In the Wind and If I Had a Hammer written by Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger & Lee Hays, respectively, were anthems that brought folks together in ways that let them recognize, in very personal ways, their collective strength as well as reassert a commonly held ethical/political perspective. Such was also the case with Where Have All the Flowers Gone and a myriad of other songs. With their repetition at rallies, marches and on the radio, these songs inspired many newcomers to the world of activism who asserted to us that our music, and that of our fellow folk musicians, became the “sound track of their political awakening”.  (In our view, this is one of the greatest compliments we ever received.)

Today, of course, the dominant transmission of such advocacies comes through social media, though in-person efforts such as The Women’s March on Washington, and the demonstrations at Standing Rock that electrified the nation are still, I believe, the most powerful tools for social/political mobilization.

Also, there is another new aspect to a musician’s, or an actor’s, or any artist’s efforts in the realm of advocacy. In this time, humor, as offered by the likes of John Oliver, the gifted cast and guests, such as the amazing Alec Baldwin, on Saturday Night Live, Samantha Bee, Melissa McCarthy, Stephen Colbert and Trevor Noah, to name just a few, has played a huge role in inspiring and activating the spirit of our nation. It cuts through the extreme “noise” in tweets, frightening pronouncement and actions emanating from the current administration,

Please take heart my friends. From my travels, I have found that there has been a huge call to action heeded, even (and emphatically) in my and Noel’s elder demographic. Be assured that a large body of former artist-activists is mobilizing now with their songs, their poetry, their heart-rending videos, their humor and their visual work on signs and memes that spread across the internet with ever more amazing directness, humor, and determination.  As long as this continues to build, we’re walking together and gaining strength.  Let’s carry it on, my friends.

In solidarity and love,
Peter

Impeachable, that’s what you are…
Impeachable, and yet so far…
You’ve avoided closer scrutiny
And even though Vlad-i-mer Putin, he

Young Woman Unlocks Secrets Of The Universe At A Music Festival

Who are we? Where do we come from? Why do hands look so trippy?

We may never know the answers to these questions, but for a brief moment it would appear this young woman at a music festival did.

The promotional video was put together by the producers of Wobbleland, an annual California music festival that plays dubstep music. This year’s festival, held this month, featured artists including Skrillex and Nero. The video, posted online Thursday, already has amassed millions of views.

A Wobbleland organizer put the video on Reddit, saying the woman was given a free guest list for life for allowing producers to use the footage.

Some say she’s still dancing.

Transgender Model To Caitlyn Jenner: ‘We Do Not Need You To Save Us’

Transgender model Isis King tweeted a blunt open letter to Caitlyn Jenner on Friday after the reality star criticized the Trump administration’s decision to rescind Obama-era guidance that protected transgender students in public schools.

King, the first openly transgender contestant to compete on “America’s Next Top Model,” calls out Jenner in the letter, referencing an incident at the TransNation Queen USA Pageant in October in which Jenner allegedly ignored King’s presence, then cut in front of her to take an empty elevator for herself and her team.

“I could not believe that this happened to me and immediately felt as if I had just been asked to move to the back of the bus,” King writes in the letter. “It was as if I was not good enough, not worthy enough, not rich enough, not famous enough to ride with these three white women. … The amount of privilege that was thrown in my face made me feel so uncomfortable.”

King seemed to suggest that the insult represents a larger issue in the trans community when it comes to power, privilege and visibility: “I have, like so many women of color, helped blazed [sic] trails for our sisters, brothers and siblings, and I have seen how you treated me. We do not need you to save us.”

On Thursday, Jenner tweeted a video message directed at President Donald Trump “from one Republican to another,” calling Trump’s blow to the rights of trans students a “disaster” and telling the president “we’ll see you in court.”

The video was met with harsh criticism from parts of the LGBTQ community. Jenner was an outspoken supporter of Trump during the 2016 election ― even attending his inauguration.

UPDATE: 1:25 p.m. ― King said in an interview with TooFab.com that Jenner called following the tweet of the open letter, and the pair have now “resolved everything.”

George Clooney Subtly Compares Donald Trump Era To McCarthyism

George Clooney was in Paris on Friday for the 42nd César awards, France’s version of The Oscars, where he was presented with an Honorary César for his body of work.

On stage with actor Jean Dujardin, who presented the award, the actor at first thanked his wife, Amal Clooney, and the French Academy, before turning to the state of things in the U.S.

“As citizens of the world, we’re going to have to work harder and harder not to let hate win,” he said, later adding, “I was thinking about Edward R. Murrow as we find ourselves nostalgic for when America was great and when the news wasn’t fake.”

Clooney then weaved together quotes from one of the broadcast legend’s most famous telecasts, when Murrow famously criticized Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy (R-Wis.) on CBS’ “See It Now” on March 9, 1954, as the senator ramped up his anti-communist activities.

Said Clooney on Friday:

We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must not walk in fear of one another. We must not be driven by fear into an age of unreason. If we dig deep in our history and remember that we are not descendants from fearful people, we proclaim ourselves indeed as we are the defenders of freedom wherever it continues to exist in the world. But we cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home.

The actions of this president have caused alarm and dismay amongst our allies abroad and given considerable comfort to our enemies. And whose fault is that? Not really his. He didn’t create this situation of fear, he merely exploited it—and rather successfully.

Cassius was right. “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves.” Good night, and good luck.

Cassius, in this instance, refers to the character from William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Clooney also swapped in a few words to bring Murrow’s words into the modern era, switching out the journalist’s “the junior Senator from Wisconsin” for “this president.”

Edward R. Murrow’s famous criticism of  Joseph R. McCarthy

Clooney is a known fan of Murrow’s career, as he wrote, directed and starred in 2005’s “Good Night, and Good Luck,” a film that followed the tension between Murrow and McCarthy in the 1950s.

The actor has repeatedly taken President Donald Trump to task in recent months. Just earlier this week, he called Trump a “Hollywood elitist” who collected “$ 120,000 a year in his Screen Actors Guild pension fund.”

Authorities Investigate Possible Hate Crime After 2 Indian Engineers Shot in Kansas, 1 Fatally

Prosecutors have charged a man with murder and attempted murder after he allegedly opened fire in a crowded bar near Kansas City, killing one man and injuring two others.

Adam Purinton, 51, was charged with one count of premeditated first-degree murder and two counts of premeditated attempted murder after police allege he shot three men at Austin’s Bar and Grill in Olathe, Kansas.

Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, was killed in the shooting. His friend, Alok Madasani, and bystander Ian Grillot were both injured.

During a press conference at the Olathe Police Department headquarters, Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe announced the charges against Purinton. He was joined by representatives from both the FBI and the Olathe police.

In a report picked up by numerous media outlets, a witness told KCTV that Purinton allegedly yelled, “Get out of my country” as he moved toward the victims. While PEOPLE has been unable to verify the eyewitness account, a spokesperson at the Olathe Police Department confirms that they are working with federal authorities to determine whether the shooting was a bias-motivated hate crime.

Additionally, a FBI spokesman says that they are “thoroughly investigating” the incident.

At the time of the incident, bar patrons were watching a University of Kansas basketball game on television. The police report states that Purinton got into an argument with Kuchibhotla and Madasani. Witnesses told KCTV that Purinton allegedly used racial slurs during the confrontation.

According to the report, Purinton allegedly left the bar and returned with a firearm. Police allege that he shot both men. When Ian Grillot stepped in, he was allegedly shot, as well.

Police allege Purinton fled on foot. Later, he allegedly entered an Applebees and allegedly told the bartender that he had been involved in a shooting.

Grillot was shot by one bullet that went through his hand and into his chest. In a video released by the University of Kansas Health System, Grillot said that he was lucky to be alive, and downplayed any indication that his involvement was heroic.

“I was just doing what anyone would have done,” he said. “It’s not about where he was from or his ethnicity, we are all humans, so I felt what was naturally right to do.”

Pick up PEOPLE’s special edition True Crime Stories: Cases That Shocked America, on sale now, for the latest on Casey Anthony, JonBenét Ramsey and more.

Purinton is being held on $ 2 million bond. It is unclear if he has an attorney. He has yet to enter a plea.

Authorities are still investigating the incident to determine their next steps.

“This was a violent crime,” FBI special agent Eric Jackson told reporters in a press conference on Thursday. “We want the community to know that we’re looking to make sure that the individual involved in this is held accountable for his actions.”

Skies Slowly Brightening for Retailers Shopping Las Vegas Men’s Shows

LAS VEGAS — The fourth quarter wasn’t pretty for most retailers. Pre- and post-election angst, unrelenting price promotions, pressure from aggressive online players and a distracted consumer all contributed to a rough end to 2016.
But retailers aren’t about to roll over. To fight back, they’re scouring the market for new brands and hot trends that will move the needle. They’ve also learned that it’s not just about offering men the latest in ath-leisure or technical tailored clothing. Today’s customer is seeking unique experiences and merchandise with an authentic story that will allow them to create their own unique style — and make a statement.
Trade show operators are also shifting their focus in the face of this new reality.
Case in point: Aaron Levant, founder of Agenda, upped the ante on experiences at his trade show this season by featuring more cash-and-carry than ever before — Generation Cool, a vintage store based in Tucson, Ariz., set up a lively booth for shoppers. Levant also created an area where brands, some that don’t wholesale, were able to design their own booth. The space felt more like an art fair than a trade show.
“It’s about experiences and community,” said Levant, who last year helped

Façade Drops 40th-Anniversary Issue With Kenzo Takada, Pierre et Gilles

STILL GOT IT: Façade magazine, the cult fashion pub of the late-Seventies and early-Eighties, has gotten the band back together again for a special 40th-anniversary edition.
At a launch party at the boutique Colette Thursday, contributors and subjects of the magazine including designer Kenzo Takada, the magazine’s founder Alain Benoist, and the photographers Pierre et Gilles signed copies of the double issue.
Pierre et Gilles — or Pierre Commoy and Gilles Blanchard — rose to fame through their work for the magazine, including portraits of Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger and Iggy Pop.
A series of portraits of the photographers against bubblegum pink and robin’s egg backgrounds occupy the front and back covers of both volumes of the double issue. “We shot the first covers of Façade 40 years ago,” Blanchard explained. “Now we’re finally on the other side.”
Pierre et Gilles said they had just returned from the opening of a retrospective of their work at the Musée d’Ixelles in Brussels, which will run through May 28.
Jean-Baptiste Mondino — the fashion photographer and director of iconic music videos for Madonna, Don Henley, Lenny Kravitz and Vanessa Paradis — shot the portraits of Pierre et Gilles over the course of an afternoon at the duo’s studio.

Etro RTW Fall 2017

The giant, vibrant kaleidoscope in the entry flagged the designer’s intent. So did an explosion of actual flags — 3,000 of them, bohemian bright, festooning the ceiling of the show space. For fall, Veronica Etro would embrace the house heritage with euphoric command.
During her tenure as women’s creative director, Etro has taken proud ownership of that legacy. Still, its specificity can prove challenging. Along the way, she has varied her degree of gusto, at times going for full-on embrace and at others, manipulating and distorting the patterns to downplay and disguise their paisley-ness.
No such subterfuge here. For fall, Etro imagined an adventurous sisterhood — the “Etro Paisley Tribe” — as intrepid as they are chic. All passionate travelers, here they gathered for some kind of spiritual-cum-fashion convocation. “It’s like an altitude festival,” Etro said during a preview, “in the mountains, in Bhutan, the Himalayas. And there’s a lot going on.”
Indeed so, but delightfully abundant. And if everything going on — the paisleys shared billing with flowers, regimental stripes, harlequin diamonds, dragon patches, mandala insignias, animal spots and on and on — would prove more than dizzying when descended from the mountain and into more secular stylistic settings, many of the

‘The Invisible Man’ Performance Artist and Photographer Liu Bolin About to Take a More Public View

ALL CLEAR: The Chinese performance artist and photographer Liu Bolin is the art world’s version of “The Invisible Man,” but he won’t be so hard to see in the months ahead.
Annie Leibovitz’s semitransparent shots of him in Moncler’s spring ads are just the start of a hectic work schedule. In April, Bolin will have solo exhibitions at the Gallery Magda Danysz in Shanghai, and at the Galerie Paris-Beijing in Paris. There will also be a performance at Centre Georges Pompidou and another at Festival Portrait(s) in Vichy, France later this year.
Before those get under way, the artist will speak May 11 at the “Art of Tomorrow” conference at the W Doha Hotel & Residences in Qatar. The upcoming blitz is a switch for the artist whose “Hiding in the City” series features self portraits in which he camouflages himself by painting himself to blend into his landscapes. “It’s my way to convey all the anxiety I feel for human beings,” the artist has said of the practice.
Along with brands like Guerlain, Fred, Renault and Ford, Bolin said his first fashion-related project was to hide five well-known designers — Jean Paul Gaultier, Alber Elbaz, Angela Missoni and Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier

11 Times The Oscars Honored White Actors For Playing People Of Color

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has made strides to become more diverse in recent years, but there’s a long road ahead to make up for the organization’s long legacy of exclusion.

Throughout its 90-year history, the Academy has not only failed to recognize the talent of many actors and actresses of color but awarded whitewashed roles in the industry.

Hollywood has consistently given diverse roles to white actors over the years; in fact, quite recently Tilda Swinton was cast as a Tibetan monk in 2016’s “Doctor Strange.” And the Oscars haven’t helped alleviate this long-standing issue by rewarding this kind of whitewashing.

Several notable white actors have been nominated for an Oscar for portraying people of color through the years. Many of them have actually won.

Take a look at 11 times the academy has nominated actors for blackface, brownface and yellowface.

Jennifer Connelly, “A Beautiful Mind”

Jennifer Connelly portrayed Alicia, the wife of mathematician John Nash in 2001’s “A Beautiful Mind.” In real-life, Alicia Nash (born Alicia Lardé) was Salvadorian. The actress, who has no Latin American roots, won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the role.

William Hurt, “Kiss of the Spider Woman”

In “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” William Hurt plays Luis Molina, a queer South American prisoner. The film was adapted from Argentine author Manuel Puig’s novel of the same name. Hurt, a white man who doesn’t identify as LGBTQ or Latino, won an Oscar for Best Actor for the role in 1985.

Linda Hunt, “The Year of Living Dangerously”

Actress Linda Hunt won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1983 for portraying Billy Kwan in “The Year of Living Dangerously.” In the film, Kwan is a Chinese-Australian male photographer with dwarfism working in Jakarta, Indonesia.

 Laurence Olivier, “Othello”

Shakespeare’s “Othello” is a Christian Moor, who is often portrayed as having a dark-complexion. Legendary British actor Laurence Olivier wore blackface when he portrayed Othello in the 1965 film version. The actor was nominated by The Academy in the Best Actor category for the role.

George Chakiris, “West Side Story”

Greek-American actor George Chakiris portrayed Bernardo, leader of the Puerto Rican gang The Sharks in “West Side Story.” He, as well as other white actors portraying Latino characters in the film, darkened their complexion with make-up. Chakiris won an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category for the role.

Hugh Griffith, “Ben-Hur”

Hugh Griffith portrayed Sheik Ilderim, an Arab character who owns the horses Judah ends up using in his chariot race, in 1959’s “Ben-Hur.” The British actor won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this role.

Spencer Tracy, “The Old Man and the Sea”

Fans of Ernest Hemingway’s novel The Old Man and the Sea might recall the book’s titular character is a Cuban fisherman. But in the 1958 film adaptation of the novel, Spencer Tracy was given the titular role. The actor, who is not Latino, was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actor category for his role.

Yul Brynner, “The King and I”

Yul Brynner, who is mainly of Russian descent, starred as the King of Siam (present-day Thailand) in the 1956 musical “The King and I.” The actor won an Oscar in the Best Actor category for the role.

Marlon Brando, “Viva Zapata!”

Hollywood brought the story of Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata to life in the 1952 film “Viva Zapata!” The titular role went to Marlon Brando, who is not Latino. The actor was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actor category for the role.

Luise Rainer, “The Good Earth”

“The Good Earth” is a 1937 film based on the historical novel of the same name, its story focuses on a family of Chinese farmers. Actress Luise Rainer wore yellowface to portray O-Lan, one of the film’s protagonists, and she took home an Oscar for Best Actress for the role.

Gale Sondergaard, “Anna and the King of Siam”

Gale Sondergaard portrayed Lady Thiang, the king’s head wife, in “Anna and the King of Siam.” The actress, who is not of Asian descent, was nominated for the role in the The Academy’s Best Supporting Actress category.

Guy Asks Protesters Where He Should Pick Up His Check For Protesting

Donald Trump and his administration are telling the country that the Americans protesting him are being paid to do so. But if that’s true, some protestors are left wondering, “Where the f**k is our money??”

Dylan of Seriously TV went to one such protest to ask demonstrators where he should pick up his checks.

This 13-Year-Old Raised Money For Over 800 People To See ‘Hidden Figures’

At only 13 years old, aspiring astronaut and devoted “Hidden Figures” fan Taylor Richardson is leading quite the philanthropic cause.

Earlier this week, Richardson was deemed GoFundMe’s February “Hero of the Month” after raising $ 17,000 through the fundraising website for people throughout the nation to go see the hit movie. “Hidden Figures” is centered around three black women mathematicians who played a pivotal role in sending the first American into space.

“I hope [the movie] inspires them to know they can do anything they put their mind to,” Richardson told The Huffington Post earlier this week.

Thus far, Richardson and her mother have given over 800 people the opportunity to attend a free screening of the movie (with snacks) and ― for a number of them ― receive the Hidden Figures book.

Richardson said her initial infatuation with “Hidden Figures” came after her regal experience attending The White House Hidden Figures in Space Exploration event in December where the movie was screened.

“It shows me that women, and especially African-American women, can do anything a guy can do and anything a white male can do,” she said of the movie.

Richardson said her initiative to send people to free screenings initially targeted young girls, but she and her mother later decided to broaden the audience.

“We wanted to have other groups see not just what three black women did, but just to know [of our] contributions,” Richardson’s mother said.

While the two know the movie won’t compel everyone to aspire towards having a career in space, like it has with Richardson, they hope that through the Hidden Figures books, kids will at least be able to develop a heightened interest in literacy, something Richardson has regularly been working towards in her community.

When she was nine years old, Richardson said she encountered a young boy at a hospital who didn’t have easy access to books. After that, she decided to hold broke drives in her hometown in his honor called “Taylor Takes Flight With A Book.”

To date, Richardson has collected and donated over 5,000 books in Jacksonville and read to over 300 children.

She’s also worked on an anti-bullying campaign with the CEOs of Florida First Coast YMCA and Girl Scouts of Gateway Council.

But Richardson’s philanthropic trajectory isn’t what’s made her mother most proud: it’s her resilience.

“I tell people all the time: what makes me most proud of Taylor is not what you hear and all these success stories, but how she handles her failures,” her mother told HuffPost.

But the persevering spirit of Richardson ― who was bullied, held back in the second grade and once struggled with literacy ― can best captured in the way she turned around her ADHD diagnosis.

“She calls ADHD: Abundantly Different Happily Divine,” her mother said. “I hope I live to see her go Mars.”

Before He Disappeared, Richard Simmons Was A Beacon Of Hope To Thousands Of Fans

Upon hearing the name “Richard Simmons,” you’re likely reminded of a handful of things: the hair, the outfits, the dancing.

Yet none of these associations ― these bits of iconography connected to Simmons and his exercise legacy ― speak to the multifaceted and goodhearted person Simmons truly is.

Dan Taberski’s podcast, Missing Richard Simmons, is attempting to change that.

“Missing Richard Simmons” launched earlier this month, asking viewers a simple question: What happened to Richard Simmons? The exercise sensation has seemingly fallen off the face of the earth in the last few years, abandoning his workout classes, devotees and, most unfortunately, his friends. The public intrigue behind this question, percolating for the past three years, has driven the podcast to the top of iTunes’ charts.

Taberski, as he explains in the podcast, was friendly with Simmons ― he regularly attended his Los Angeles classes and has, on occasion, visited Simmons’ home. After a bit of digging, Taberski found that potentially thousands of others had established similar relationships.

In short, Simmons was this bubbly, friendly guy who would prolong going to the hospital for an injury just to take a photo with a fan. He’d make daily calls to someone he’d met one time, who lived across the country, just to check in on them. He’d drive elderly fans to classes when they couldn’t make the trip at night.

So, how does someone who gives the world so much goodness decide to make a complete 180 and disappear? I talked to Taberski on the phone about his endeavor to find Simmons and what drove him to embark on this podcast.

“I think there’s a lot of answers to that,” Taberski explained. “I am extremely worried. I am concerned. I do think something’s going on. I don’t know what it is. I don’t mean to get grim here ― I’m hoping everything’s great. I’m hoping at the end of this process Richard and I reconnect and get to talk and he gets to go live the life he wants. I hope the hundreds of people who loved him and are his friends and don’t understand what’s going on, that they get an answer too. I hope that’s what happens.”

He took a pause before elaborating further.

“There are countless stories of celebrities who just want to be left alone,” he added, “and people have thought there’s something wrong [when there’s not]. But then there are others where you hear about the horrible ending that they’ve had. I’m not saying that’s what’s going to happen to him … He’s not just retired. He’s not just taking time off. He’s not still working behind the scenes to continue the work he’s been doing for the past 40 years. That’s all been abandoned and [his management and publicist] are not acknowledging that. There’s something scary about this that I think is worth pursuing.”

The thing about Simmons that Taberski kept coming back to in our discussion was his empathy. Simmons had seemingly boundless amounts of it. According to Taberski, Simmons would wake up at 4 a.m., spending his morning calling up to 50 people a day who “were isolated, alone and lived in the middle of nowhere.” They might have been experiencing problems with their weight, health, self-esteem or levels of happiness. Simmons would listen to their stories and “give to them just empathy ― for free!”

“He did that for a decade,” Taberski said. “He helped thousands, if not tens of thousands, of people with that empathy.”

One can imagine how much effort it takes to be present for so many individuals; how much energy it must take to forge those bonds. In light of this, I asked Taberski if he felt that Richard owed us (the podcast listeners, his friends, etc.) his presence now.

“We’re not owed anything. Straight up,” Taberski replied. “Richard Simmons owes us nothing … I have a feeling that Richard Simmons is isolated and alone and needs some empathy. I think, and how I see this project, this is a chance for us to return that favor. Sometimes, that requires being a little pushy, but sometimes the best friends are the pushy ones. It comes from love. And I hope he sees it that way.”

Taberski explained that Simmons’ intense relationships with people are what help make the podcast so much deeper than just finding out what he’s been up to.

“This isn’t just Richard Simmons’ story,” he said. “This isn’t a story about a celebrity and the fans who miss him. This is also about people who know him and miss him. This is their story, too.”

Taberski said that just as Simmons gave so much to these people, they gave something to him in return. And the general concern for Richard is one that stems from “sheer love, respect and confusion.”

“There’s not a vindictiveness, no one’s like, ‘That asshole!’ It comes from a complicated place, but it comes from a place where people really feel for him and want him to be OK,” Taberski said. “I just want to understand. I feel like what I’m doing is what I hope I’d do for any friend. If they’re doing something weird, you push it a little bit to make sure they’re OK. I envy his ability to connect with people … I really think he’s a superhero in that sense. It astounds me how giving he is to other beings.”

According to Taberski, the podcast is currently planning to roll out only six episodes, despite his ability to talk about Simmons “until he turns blue.” And he wants everyone to know that his plea to Simmons at the end of each episode to reach out and get in touch with him is genuine.

“There’s no secret like, ‘We know how it ends!’ and we’re just playing coy. This is an open investigation. And ‘investigation’ sounds so serious. But this is an open-ended project,” he said. “I want this to create enough of a ripple that it moves Richard to respond. Just a phone call or something. I’m trying to get his attention. That’s the end goal right now. We don’t know how it ends.”

When I asked Taberski if he’s hoping for a Richard Simmons renaissance at the end of all of this, he said that no, he wasn’t. Instead, he’s hoping for Richard to find peace.

“I don’t feel like [Richard] has it now,” he concluded. “I don’t feel like anyone who knows him has it now. It’s a sinking feeling that I’m just not quite willing to put aside yet.”

Nightwing Movie in the Works From LEGO Batman Director

LEGO Batman filmmaker Chris McKay is in talks to direct a Nightwing live-action film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. wants to expand the DC Extended Universe with the Batman-centric character, who’s also known as Dick Grayson or the first Robin. Nightwing hasn’t been seen so far in any of the films, though one Robin was apparently killed by the Joker as part of the backstory in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The Accountant scribe Bill Dubuque is reportedly working on the Nightwing screenplay.

Warner Bros. is releasing Wonder Woman and Justice League, with Aquaman and The Flash films planned for the future. In fact, we have compiled every upcoming DC Extended Universe movie.

It’s a Crab! It’s a Puppy! It’s Banana the Adoptable Dog

Sometimes photographers tell you to act natural. It turns out Banana the dog’s natural state is “crab.”

Lollipop Kennels recently posted a picture of the pup, who is now looking for a home, but he doesn’t look all puppy.

In the shot, 5-month-old Banana strikes a pose that one might be inclined to call “Confused Crab.”

While Banana isn’t always scuttling around on his back paws, the picture is an accurate depiction of his adorable personality.

“He’s a goofy guy. He runs around grabbing toys and stealing anything he can,” Lollipop Kennels tells PEOPLE in an email. “He’s always jumping around and doesn’t sit still long enough to get a ‘normal’ picture of him. He’s met kids and is awesome with them, he’s really just a playful, goofy puppy.”

The good news is that Banana is still available for adoption, so there is a chance this silly dog could clamor into your home and heart. If you are interested in learning more about this joker, contact Lollipop Kennels in Lubbock, Texas, at 806-746-6875.

SHOPPING NEWS UPDATE:

Rodd & Gunn to Open Store in Brooklyn

Rodd & Gunn, a New Zealand-based men’s wear brand, will open its second U.S. store in New York City in March.
The 3,200-square-foot store at 81 Front Street in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn joins a flagship that opened in Fashion Island in Newport Beach, Calif., in October.
Rodd & Gunn operates 85 stores in New Zealand and Australia, but entered the American market as a wholesaler.
Asked why the brand chose Brooklyn instead of Manhattan for its East Coast debut, Mike Beagley, chief executive officer, said, “We weren’t really looking at opening on the East Coast, but this opportunity came up and we thought it was a great way of commencing in New York quickly. It is an amazing building in an iconic location that we believe is an emerging retail and lifestyle area of Brooklyn – incredibly high average household income and literally a stone’s throw from Wall Street.”
He said the California store has performed “exceptionally well and we are really happy in how the Newport Beach community has embraced us. We are trading well above plan and selling all of our categories from hand-made in New Zealand luggage to outerwear and footwear.”
Beagley said the plan calls for opening eight to 10

Resellers Flip Supreme MetroCards at Wildly Varying Prices

There appears to be a price discrepancy amongst resellers of the Supreme MetroCards.
The collaborative transportation billets had induced frenzy at select subway stops across New York earlier this week. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has since announced that the Supreme MetroCards — which cost $ 5.50 and were pre-loaded with a round-trip fare — have sold out.
On eBay, MetroCards are currently sold for anywhere between a $ 0.99 starting bid and a $ 5,000 set price.
Local deals in New York have also emerged. At the guerrilla Supreme resale shop Unique Hype Collection on Elizabeth Street in Manhattan, the cards are plentiful — and priced at $ 25.
The 500 percent markup is a stark contrast to some eBay sellers’ premiums.
Unique Hype — a notable stop for tourists with streetwear affections — has an unknown amount of the cards in stock. A sales clerk declined to comment about the quantity.
According to MTA rules and regulations, there is a $ 60 fine for each unauthorized sale of a MetroCard — an offense it finds particularly indictable when a card’s price is marked up.
Unique Hype would not comment on its status as an authorized MTA merchant.
Both Supreme and the MTA did not respond to requests for comment on the reselling of

Les Copains RTW Fall 2017

Talk about La La Land: The show notes at Les Copains announced that its fall collection revolved around a woman who “exists between a dreamy world filled with stars and butterflies and the nightclubs where she lives out her fantasies.” It compared this fictional heroine to Alice in Wonderland or Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz.”
It came as a surprise, therefore, that the display kicked off with a series of rather conservative looks in speckled gray tweed. Creative director Stefania Bandiera worked a faintly retro vibe with items including a bustier dress topped with a barely there, filmy black crop top.
She played with contrasting textures, working spider’s web mohair knits into featherlight dresses, or pairing a chunky cream ribbed sweater with a sheer nude wrap skirt embroidered with stars.
So what of these fantasy touches? They came in the shape of appliquéd butterflies, which looked like they had just alighted on the sleeve of an oversize satin parka, or a griffin embroidered on the front of a baggy black mohair sweater dress. The label’s signature crests, randomly applied on tops and skirts, felt forced by comparison.
The final look, meanwhile, was a pure flight of fancy fit for the Queen of Hearts

Pink, Stripes, Patchwork and Tommy Were Top New York Fashion Week Searches

While pink, stripes and patchwork were some of the top style trends during and after New York Fashion Week, it was Tommy — as in Tommy Hilfiger – that saw a 196 percent jump in searches.
That’s according to ShopStyle, which analyzed its influencer networks through ShopStyle Collective to see what looks were trending and resonating with audiences.
In addition to the different style trends, ShopStyle said there was a 196 percent increase in “Tommy” searches. And while “Tommy Hilfiger popped all over the place,” a spokeswoman for ShopStyle said it was the Gigi cardigan that was the “most clicked-on piece.” The cotton varsity cardigan, $ 199.50 is part of an exclusive capsule collection designed by Gigi Hadid and Tommy Hilfiger.
The top trend was the color pink — all shades of pink. Among the top items cited according to the Collective’s analytics were: Zimmermann’s Caravan ruffled striped bikini in antique rose, $ 295; Holding Horses Lilibet dress in pink with a wide, white border on the hemline, $ 138, and Kate Spade’s Whimsies t-rex cross-body purse, $ 378.
As for stripes, the most popular, or top clicked item, was a structured striped top from Moth, $ 98; a stripe knit bell-sleeve top by Pleione, $ 49; breakout loungers from

Beyoncé Has Officially Dropped Out Of Coachella And Fans Aren’t Happy

Bad news for Beyoncé fans who bought their Coachella tickets: Queen B has officially pulled out of the music festival.

On Thursday, a representative for the expectant mother confirmed the news to the Associated Press. In a statement, the rep said Bey, who’s pregnant with twins, was just “following the advice of her doctors to keep a less rigorous schedule in the coming months.”

Beyoncé announced her pregnancy about a month after the Coachella lineup was unveiled, leading many to speculate whether she’d be able to grace the festival with her presence.

There is a silver lining though ― Bey will headline the 2018 festival. There’s been no news yet about who will take her place (let’s be real, no one can) this year, though.

The Coachella Twitter account retweeted AP’s story and shared the news on its official Facebook page, telling fans, “Stay tuned for more information.”

Naturally, folks aren’t too happy about the announcement. Many took to Twitter to air their grievances.

No word yet on whether the festival will offer refunds of any kind, but The Huffington Post has reached out and will update this post accordingly.

10 Things Anyone Who Loves An Introvert Needs To Know

Introverts often find themselves in romantic relationships with extroverts, despite their fundamental differences in temperament.

Perhaps it’s because they balance each other out. Introverts (or “innies”) ― who gain energy by spending time alone ― are drawn to extroverts because of their easy-breezy social nature. Extroverts (or “outies”) ― who recharge their batteries by spending time with other people ― may find themselves attracted to introverts because of their ability to listen and ground the more restless parts of the extrovert’s personality.

If you’re married to, dating or even just romantically interested in an introvert, below are 10 things our self-proclaimed “innie” readers want you to know.

1. Please don’t take our need for alone time personally.

“An introvert needs time alone, and it has nothing to do with you. She’s not mad, she’s not holding anything in and she certainly doesn’t need to ‘talk it out.’ She just needs to recharge so that when she does come back, she can be 100 percent in the moment with you. Giving her the space to do this without guilt or nagging means you both win in the end. My husband gladly backs off when I’m ‘introverting’ because he knows the payoff for our relationship is huge.” ― Betsy Talbot

2. Small talk is not our strong suit. Deeper conversations are where we shine.

“The general small talk chit-chat grates on my nerves ― I don’t like it and feel awkward trying to engage in it. However, discussions on more meaningful topics truly catch my interest and I can ramble on and on or listen at length with keen interest.” ― Julie Lombard

3. Don’t try to change us.

“Just let your introvert partner be him or herself. Understand that our personalities are different and that we have our own way of loving.” ― CM Dimen

4. That said, the occasional nudge to help us come out of our shells is welcome.

“While we might complain and whine, getting out is good for the balance of introvert-extrovert dating. It is ideal in a balanced relationship. If my wife never got me out, I might never go.” ― Darcy Johnston

5. Sometimes silence really is golden.

“It’s okay not to talk all the time. Sometimes the greatest intimacy is just being together in comfortable silence. It can be cuddling or it can be separate, but it’s okay to be quiet.”― Jenna Schulcz

6. We might be slow to warm up so just be patient, OK?

“I may appear quite serious at first; however, once I feel comfortable around you, then I open up more and reveal my rather quirky, silly and witty side. I truly am such a friendly, sweet-natured oddball that yearns for friendships and a boyfriend but I need to be invited to join a discussion or event otherwise I feel like I am being a bother or intrusive.” ― Julie Lombard

7. Understand our need to decompress after a long day.

“Most of us are out in the world all day and are drained when we get home. We need some quiet recharge time, and having someone ask us how our day was, what happened, etc. is very off-putting. Give us 15 to 30 minutes just to be quiet and recharge a bit. We’ll be happy to talk and catch up, we just need some time first.” ― Jenna Schulcz

8. You don’t need to tell us we’re quiet ― we already know.

“Please, for the love of god, don’t comment on how quiet we are. We know. Sometimes we just need quiet time. When we’re ready to talk we will, just have some patience.” ― Mia Montez Lopez

9. We might require more low-key nights at home than you do.

“Don’t challenge your partner’s desire to spend a few nights at home by pointing out that ‘normal people’ go out on weekends.” ― Nicholas Mercuro

10. We prefer to gather our thoughts instead of thinking out loud.

“An introvert likes to think about things, so if you spring a new topic or pick a fight, don’t be surprised if you don’t get the level of participation you want from your introvert lover. Our default stance is to consider, to play things out in our heads before opening our mouths. Give us time to do that, and you’ll get the kind of conversation or debate you were looking for. We have some of our best conversations and liveliest arguments on our morning walks because my extrovert husband will lay the groundwork for the topic the afternoon before (politics, personal matters, where to go on vacation next, etc.)” ― Betsy Talbot

Oscar Isaac To Play Title Role In New York Production Of ‘Hamlet’

Shakespearean tragedy has never made us feel so giddy.

The New York Times reports that Oscar Isaac is slated to play the title role in director Sam Gold’s upcoming production of “Hamlet.” The highly anticipated staging will run at New York’s Public Theater from June 20 to Sept. 3, 2017.

Gold, who won a Tony for his direction of Broadway’s “Fun Home,” began work on the production in 2014, which was expected to run this year at Theater for a New Audience’s Polonsky Shakespeare Center in Brooklyn. Because of artistic differences, however, between Gold and artistic director Jeffrey Horowitz, the show was pulled in June 2016.

Now, the play, having controversially switched venues and artistic directors, is officially back on the docket. And we could picture few people better than Mr. Llewyn Davis himself to play the brooding, emo lead.

Oh, and one more bonus: Horatio will be played by Keegan-Michael Key, of “Key and Peele,” in his first New York stage performance. According to Slate, however, Key was classically trained as a Shakespearean actor before veering into improv comedy, so our expectations are pretty high.

Tickets will go on sale for Public members on March 9, with non-member tickets available at an unspecified later date.

Mom Thanks Kind Cashier Who Took The Time To Comfort Her Restless Son

A routine shopping trip turned into something more for one mom after a cashier went “above and beyond his duty” for her son.

On Feb 18, Lauren Walker visited a Marks and Spencer food hall in Scotland with her 10-month-old son and her mother. During their shopping trip, Walker’s son, Alistair, grew restless. When the family reached the checkout, Alistair recognized the cashier as the man who said, “hello” to him when they first arrived and yelled, “Hiya hiya!” That’s when the cashier went above and beyond and comforted Walker’s restless son by letting him help behind the checkout.

Walker was so moved by the cashier’s kindness that she posted about her experience on the official Marks and Spencer Facebook page and shared a video of Alistair helping the cashier. In her post, she wrote about how much her son enjoyed spending time with him.

“He smiled and squealed the full way through it because he was having so much fun!” she wrote in her post. “This man made my shopping experience so much easier and the fact he took time with my son as well was great.”

Walker told The Huffington Post she and her son have never experienced something like this while out shopping. Once Walker finished up paying, Alistair didn’t want to leave his new friend.

“This is why I recorded it while my mum was packing the shopping because it was so kind of him and you could see he was great with kids,” she said. “My son wasn’t happy when it was time to leave because he was enjoying himself too much!”

Walker hasn’t seen the cashier since, but did receive a reply via a Facebook comment from Marks and Spencer.

“It looks like your little one was having a great time and it’s really good to see how our colleague was so helpful and interactive with our customers,” the company wrote. “I’ll make sure this is shared on our internal employee page and that our Store Manager gets to hear about it too! We can then give him the recognition he deserves.”

When asked if she had anything else she’d like to say to the kind cashier, Walker said she wanted to say, “thank you.”

“He went above and beyond his duty of care just because he thought all he was doing was his job!”
