Game of Thrones Actress Voices We Happy Few Main Character

Game of Thrones actress Charlotte Hope will voice one of the main characters in We Happy Few.

On today’s episode of Inside Xbox, Compulsion Games’ founder Guillaume Provost revealed the actress is voicing Sally Boyle, one of the three playable characters in the survival adventure game set in a drug-addled dystopia.

Charlotte Hope is an English actress best known for her reoccurring role as Myranda, the sadistic girlfriend of Ramsay Bolton in seasons 3 – 6 of HBO’s hit drama series.

“Most of our cast is from England,” Provost said during the Inside Xbox interview. “We tried casting some actors in Canada … when we were tight on budget and didn’t have a lot of money. And what we realized is that some of the actors can do British accents quite convincingly, but it’s very difficult to have a convincing performance at the same time.”

Report That Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx Have Split Is ‘100 Percent Untrue’ Says Actress’ Rep

A report that Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes have split is “100 percent untrue,” Leslie Sloane, a rep for the actress tells PEOPLE.

The story, published Wednesday, claimed Holmes and Foxx were planning a wedding and called it off.

The pair were first spotted together in 2013, although the actors have never confirmed their relationship.

After first being seen dancing with one another in the Hamptons in 2013 — one year after the actress split from Tom Cruise following six years of marriage — Foxx, 50, and Holmes, 39, made sure to stay out of the spotlight.

When a photographer captured a rare photo of the pair together, walking hand-in-hand on a Malibu beach in September, they became more  cautious — but started stepping out together more.

The duo sat next to each other at Clive Davis’s Pre-Grammy Awards Gala in January, played basketball together on Valentine’s Day and were seen leaving Nobu restaurant in New York City on April 22, followed by Carbone on May 1.

Holmes also made an appearance at his 50th birthday party in Los Angeles in mid-December. Foxx and Holmes were seen arriving together at Paramount Pictures for his bash.

Muslim Actress Channels Ariana Grande In Musical ‘Love’ Letter To Trump

President Donald Trump’s rise to power has stirred much consternation and concern among American Muslim communities.

It’s also provoked fearless (and devilishly irreverent) acts of defiance ― like the one created by Kausar Mohammed, an actress from Los Angeles, California.

In “Dangerous Muslim,” a parody of pop star Ariana Grande’s hit song “Dangerous Woman,” Mohammed sidles up to a wall plastered with photos of the president, jokes about Trump’s “fish lips,” and seductively poses on a bed, all while singing about a special “something” Trump has that’s making her feel some type of way.

“Something about you makes me feel like a dangerous Muslim,” Mohammed sings. “Something about you makes me more in love with my religion.”

The bawdy, satirical Facebook video, published May 8, purports to be a “love letter to Trump” ― but is exactly the opposite of it. The video actually subverts stereotypes about Muslims to criticize the president.

Trump promised to be a president “for all Americans” but has steadfastly neglected the concerns of American Muslims. He’s watched silently as anti-Muslim hate crimes spiked dramatically in the U.S. and bungled his way through a backdoor Muslim ban, which sought to ban people from several Muslim-majority nations from entering the United States. The ban, which came in the form of an executive order, sparked mass protests and caused hundreds of people to be detained at airports. A U.S. appeals court is currently reviewing the executive order.

Mohammed poked fun at the beleaguered travel ban and the profiling Muslims have often faced while traveling. She sings, “Your airport holdups they got me warmed up for your frisking.”

Mohammed and her co-star in the video, actor and producer Krishna Kumar, also pointed out the utter absurdity of connecting the violent ideologies of a few extremists to the faith of the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims.

“Not all Muslims are like that, 1.6 billion in fact. A couple suck, but we’re not all bad.”

Watch Mohammed’s video above.

‘Grace And Frankie’ Actress Writing A Book To Help Women Run For Office

The Nov. 8 election has already inspired a tsunami-sized wave of aspiring women politicians. An upcoming book from “Grace and Frankie” actress June Diane Raphael and Emily’s List Chief of Staff Kate Black aims to help them run ― and win.

The friends will collaborate on The Badass Woman’s Guide to Running for Office and Changing the World, People reported Wednesday, a sort of “workbook/planner.” The finished product, set for a 2019 debut, will “reveal the basics of what a woman needs to know to run for office, whether it’s on the local, state, or federal level,” according to a statement from publisher Workman.

“We can’t look at another photo of a bunch of older white dudes making decisions about women,” Raphael told People, explaining her inspiration for the project with Emily’s List, an organization that helps pro-choice Democratic women candidates run for office.

Perhaps the actress was thinking of this moment in recent history, when President Donald Trump gathered a room full of men to discuss maternity coverage in the planned American Health Care Act:

Viral moments aside, Raphael cited a basic statistic about American government that she called “haunting”: Women make up less than 20 percent of Congress (19.4 percent, to be precise) and less than 25 percent of state legislatures (24.8 percent, at the moment).

As HuffPost’s Emma Gray reported in December, women and men have a roughly equal shot at winning an election. The trouble is that fewer women actually run for office ― an issue Raphael and Black aim to help solve.

The Badass Women’s Guide comes as support for women’s campaigns for office has increased amid seemingly unprecedented numbers of women activists participating in marches across the U.S. One art exhibit, “She Inspires,” currently on view at New York’s Untitled Space gallery, is donating 10 percent of its proceeds to She Should Run, a nonpartisan organization that supports women running for office.

The need for funding is real: An Emily’s List representative told The Washington Post last month that the organization had spoken with 11,000 women about running for office throughout all 50 states, including some prospective House candidates.

Special Collegial Wishes for Actress Cherry Jones

2016-12-06-1481056981-8296338-cherryjones_customc4e22b94ad2170fe658ddd08eb680b490642d548s300c85.jpg

ZEALnyc, December 6, 2016

Cherry Jones, one of the great actors of our day, recently celebrated a milestone birthday (November 21) and we at ZEALnyc saluted and paid tribute to her on this happy occasion. She has been nominated five times for a Tony Award, winning twice — first in 1995 for her staring role in the Lincoln Center Theater’s revival of The Heiress, and then again in 2005 for her portrayal of Sister Aloysius in John Patrick Shanley’s play Doubt. Her career has spanned the trifecta of mediums encompassing stage, film and television, while being honored along the way with numerous awards documenting her excellence in these fields; she has received an Emmy Award, numerous Drama Desk Awards (in addition to her Tony Awards and nominations), as well as receiving a special GLADD Media Award.

2016-12-06-1481057181-6607270-CherryJoneswinsEmmy20091024x576.jpg

After receipt of 2009 Emmy Award

While her training and earliest work had its roots on the stage, she has navigated effortlessly back and forth from film and television beginning as early as the late 80’s with a large filmography that includes The Horse Whisperer, Erin Brockovich, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and Ocean’s Twelve, to name only a few. Newer audiences may be more familiar with her work as President Allison Taylor on the hit television series 24 and most recently through guest appearances on the award-winning series Transparent (Amazon Video). Ms. Jones expressed her joy at the diversity of her work in a New York Times article earlier this year: “I’m Having the Kind of Year Actors Live For.”

We are very happy to share well-wishes from a few of the artists and administrators who have been fortunate to cross paths and work with Ms. Jones over the years. Their words speak for themselves and provide the strongest testament and endorsement of a great artist. We’re all looking forward to many years and many wonderful performances ahead.

André Bishop, Producing Artistic Director, Lincoln Center Theater, NYC

Cherry Jones is one of America’s finest and most admired actors. I say “finest” because of her talent, her versatility, her emotional depth and her intelligence. She walks onstage and everything suddenly seems brighter. And it is – because of her. I say “admired” because she is kind and caring, a great company member, and unafraid to speak her mind and express her doubts and fears. She is not closed off as a human being, she is open to everything around her. And she has, for all her success and all the respect she garners, a lovely modesty, a sort of secure insecurity.

When Lincoln Center Theater offered Cherry the leading role of Catherine Sloper in The Heiress — a beautiful, sensitive, and ultimately strong-willed young woman — Cherry received the offer and the script and automatically assumed she was being offered the role of Catherine’s protective, dotty elderly aunt! It never occurred to her that she was being asked to play the lead. Of course her performance as Catherine made history and she has continued to make history ever since.

She is a great artist and a great human being, and everyone at Lincoln Center Theater (especially me!) is in her thrall and always will be.

Marc Masterson, Artistic Diretor, South Coast Repertory, Costa Mesa, CA

I have known Cherry since we were both frightened children in conservatory at Carnegie Mellon trying to bury our southern accents in speech class. Cherry met that challenge with a fierce determination that has characterized her work ever since. She is smart and strong and powerful, with a wry sense of humor and a delightful twinkle in her eye. I have followed most of her work in New York and deeply admire her talent, her character, and her humanity. I directed her in my senior project in school with a play called Circus Lady and she made it so easy — all I had to do was give her the stage. Happy birthday my dear friend!

2016-12-06-1481057635-3188790-cherryjones07.jpg

Todd Haimes, Artistic Director, Roundabout Theare Company, NYC

Cherry Jones is so talented, so giving, and so incredibly warm that to wish her merely a happy birthday doesn’t seem like enough. So I will wish for Cherry all of the joy that she has brought to her audiences and many friends over the years. I feel privileged to have been a small part of the wonderful work that she has shared on New York stages. She is a singular performer, and the theatre would be a lesser place without Cherry Jones in it.

Doug Hughes, Director of Broadway productions of ‘Doubt’ and ‘Mrs. Warren’s Profession’

There are precious few genuine stars of what used to be called “the legitimate stage.” Cherry, you are indisputably one of those: An actress of charisma, integrity and genius. The spiritual descendant of Le Gallienne and Julie Harris.

I could go on endlessly about how great thou art. But since that is universally acknowledged, I will simply state that over the years we’ve worked together, I’ve never once seen you forget the joy that is so essential to surviving and flourishing in our strange racket. Time and time again, I’ve been a witness as your radiant love for the theater flowed through rehearsal halls and across the footlights. Each time, I have been lifted up.

Thank you darling Cherry — Happy Birthday and all love, Doug.

15 Of The Emmys’ 18 Leading Actress Nominees Are Over 40. This Is Huge.

This year’s Emmy nominations included surprises, wearyingly predictable nods, and a few glaring snubs, but one of the most striking things about the nominations had to do with age. Of the 18 leading actress nominees across comedy, drama, and mini-series, 15 of them are over the age of 40.

It would be nice if this wasn’t notable, but it is. And it’s awesome.

In the category for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Amy Schumer, at 34, is the youngest actress nominated. The other nominees include Amy Poehler, Edie Falco and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The oldest is Lily Tomlin, who earned a nod for her funny, honest and nuanced performance in the Netflix series “Grace and Frankie.” Tomlin is 75. A woman her age has never been nominated in this category (prior to her, the oldest nominee was Betty White at 69 for “Golden Girls” in 1991).

The age diversity among this year’s female nominees is even more significant when you count the supporting actress categories, which include women in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s, from 28-year-old Emilia Clarke from “Game of Thrones,” to 63-year old Christine Baranski from “The Good Wife.” A vast majority of these actresses, even if they aren’t over 40, are in their 30s. All of the actresses are playing characters who are age-appropriate.

This is, in a word, huge.

In a Hollywood landscape where 24-year-old Jennifer Lawrence consistently gets cast as a middle-aged single mom or 30-something divorcee, and where 26-year-old Emma Stone plays the charming young lover of men twice her age in Woody Allen movie after Woody Allen movie, it’s refreshing to see women of all ages being recognized and celebrated for playing complex, meaty roles across genres.

Television has long been praised for being more daring and creative, and certainly more diverse when it comes to race and gender (though, of course, we have a long way to go — shows like “Jane the Virgin” and “Empire” were largely shut out of the major Emmy categories this year). This year, two African-American actresses are nominated for lead actress in a drama, and both of them (Taraji P. Henson and Viola Davis) also happen to be in their 40s.

As Davis said in a roundtable for The Hollywood Reporter, “I had never seen a 49-year-old, dark-skinned woman who is not a size two be a sexualized role in TV or film… I’m a sexual woman, but nothing in my career has ever identified me as a sexualized woman. I was the prototype of the ‘mommified’ role.”

Hollywood perpetuates the straight male fantasy that every woman who is on screen, no matter her age or station in life, should be “fuckable” (in the eyes of white heterosexual male viewers). But this year’s Emmy nominees prove that pandering to that kind of audience is unnecessary and boring — there’s so much more out there. Davis doesn’t have to play the mom or the “Law & Order” judge just because she’s 49, and conversely Amy Schumer doesn’t have to play the dumb blonde type — instead, she can satirize it.

This is all to say that there’s some room for optimism. The Emmys, like many awards shows, are a great representation of where we’re at and where we have to go. There’s been a growing trend not only of complex women on the small screen, and a diversity in the types of actresses who get these roles, but also in the accolades and acknowledgement that these performances are getting. That’s progress. Last year, the number of nominated lead actresses over 40 was 14. This year’s, it’s 15. That number — and the rich, interesting performances that go along with those stats — should only grow.

Check out all the female acting nominees below, and rejoice:

Anne Meara, Actress And Mother Of Ben Stiller, Dies At 85

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actress and comedian Anne Meara, whose comic work with husband Jerry Stiller helped launch a 60-year career in film and TV, has died. She was 85.

Jerry Stiller and son Ben Stiller say Meara died Saturday. No other details were provided.

The Stiller family released a statement to The Associated Press on Sunday describing Jerry Stiller as Meara’s “husband and partner in life.”

“The two were married for 61 years and worked together almost as long,” the statement said.

The couple performed as Stiller & Meara on “The Ed Sullivan Show” and other programs in the 1960s and won awards for the radio and TV commercials they made together. Meara also appeared in dozens of films and TV shows, including a longtime role on “All My Children” and recurring appearances on “Rhoda,” ”Alf,” ”Sex and the City” and “The King of Queens.” She shared the screen with her son in 2006’s “Night at the Museum.”

Meara was twice nominated for an Emmy Award for her supporting role on “Archie Bunker’s Place,” along with three other Emmy nods, most recently in 1997 for her guest-starring role on “Homicide.” She won a Writers Guild Award for co-writing the 1983 TV movie “The Other Woman.”

Besides her husband and son, Meara is survived by her daughter, Amy, and several grandchildren.

The family statement said: “Anne’s memory lives on in the hearts of daughter Amy, son Ben, her grandchildren, her extended family and friends, and the millions she entertained as an actress, writer and comedienne.”

A Nearly Unrecognizable Game of Thrones Actress, and More Best Dressed From BAFTA TV Awards

Across the pond in London last night, Brits celebrated their TV stars with the BAFTA TV Awards, and the fashion, as you’d hope, was simply smashing (Briticism required). The best-dressed mix included actresses we’ve have grown to love, plus new names with style so sharp (not to mention a Game of Thrones actor or two), it might be time to start tuning in internationally. Take a look:

sophie-mcshera-black-white-dress-bafta-tv-awards-2015
Sophie McShera, Downton Abbey‘s Daisy, still surprises when she’s in anything but a kitchen apron (and there have been so many seasons for us to get used to the phenomeon!). Last night, she picked an elegantly simple combo of floor-sweeping skirt and cropped top.

maisie-williams-blue-lace-dress-bafta-tv-awards
The other surprise glamour girl was Maisie Williams, who looked sweet and super feminine in a periwinkle lace pick by Self Portrait. Her Game of Thrones arc might have her out of the boyish togs, but it’s still doubtful that anything this divine is coming up for Arya.

ophelia-lovibond-snake-print-dress-bafta-tv-awards
British beauty Ophelia Lovibond has made her mark in U.S. television, appearing stateside in Elementary, and one could argue our style sense has rubbed off on her. Rather than go the prim English rose route, she picked a crop-top gown with a scaly-but-glam snake print.

donna-air-pink-dress-bafta-tv-awards-2015
The best angle of Brit TV presenter Donna Air’s peachy gown was from the side, where the shape of the sculpted hip panels was on full display. That construction wasn’t just for looks, either—the custom House of Fraser piece had LED lights on the sides and bodice that lit up.

dianna-agron-black-sheer-dress-bafta-tv-awards-2015
The night’s award for chicest American in London certainly went to Dianna Agron, who did all-black with sheer sleeves that reached to her wrists. Her top is from Simone Rocha and the skirt is Comme des Garçons.

For further proof that it’s insane to see favorite TV characters IRL, please reference all of these Game of Thrones women.

Why Actress Darby Stanchfield Refuses To Hug ‘Scandal’ Co-Star Scott Foley

Actress Darby Stanchfield may be the only woman in the world to ever turn down a hug from Scott Foley.

After Foley revealed Stanchfield’s staunch stance on hugs in a HuffPost Live interview last month, Stanchfield stopped by the studio to set the record straight.

As a new cast member on season two of the hit ABC show, Foley was a little too reserved for Stanchfield. While the rest of the actors behaved like rowdy “14-year-olds at summer camp” during each table read, Foley kept his cool.

“We’re all like pounding on the tables and high-fiving each other and hugging each other and laughing and crying through the table reads and such,” she said. “And he had this energy, and Portia de Rossi [who guest stars this season] went through it too, of like, ‘Okay, they seem cool, but is this real?’”

After picking up on Foley’s calm demeanor, Stanchfield opted for a handshake on their their first meeting, and the formal greeting just stuck.

“I shook his hand for the first time I met him, and it just kind of felt like this joke — like this natural thing of, like, we’re on handshake terms,” she said. “It felt like a thing of respect at the beginning, then it just became this joke of, like, ‘Dude, I don’t hug you.’”

Sheila MacRae Dead: ‘Honeymooners’ Actress Dies At 92

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — Sheila MacRae, a veteran stage, film and TV performer best known for playing Alice Kramden in the 1960s re-creation of “The Honeymooners,” has died. She was 92.

The actress died Thursday at the Lillian Booth Actors Home in Englewood, N.J., MacRae’s granddaughter, Allison Mullavey, told The Associated Press on Friday. “She had a great life, my mom, she really did. She was quite a broad,” said her daughter, actress Heather MacRae. “Fascinating, almost like an Autie Mame character.”

Shirley Jones, in a statement released by MacRae’s family, called Sheila MacRae “a great lady” with extraordinary talent who “helped me to be a better mother.”

MacRae, who suffered from dementia but was otherwise in good health, had been hospitalized for a minor surgical procedure. Her death came suddenly Thursday night, apparently the result of old age, said Heather MacRae.

“She lived a good life and a long life,” Mullavey said. “We’ll miss her.”

A singer, dancer and actress, MacRae was married to “Oklahoma!” and “Carousel” star Gordon MacRae for 26 years, and they appeared together in 1964 on “The Ed Sullivan Show” when the Beatles were featured.

She had put her career on hold while she devoted herself to MacRae and their four children, Heather MacRae said. After helping her husband with his nightclub act, she decided to join him and her career took off, her daughter said. The couple appeared together in musicals including “Guys and Dolls,” with Sheila MacRae taking her performance as Miss Adelaide to Broadway in 1965.

The couple divorced in 1967.

In the 1950s version of “The Honeymooners,” Audrey Meadows starred with Jackie Gleason as lovebirds and sparring partners Ralph and Alice Kramden. Sheila MacRae replaced Meadows as Alice in a later version from 1966-70 on “The Jackie Gleason Show.” MacRae was the last survivor from the ’60s edition of the Gleason show. Jane Kean, who played Trixie Norton, died last fall.

“My mother referred to herself as the last Mrs. Kramden,” Heather MacRae said.

After her divorce from Gordon MacRae, she was married to Ronald Wayne, who produced Gleason’s show, her daughter said. They later divorced.

Sheila MacRae played the role of Madelyn Richmond on the soap opera “General Hospital” and was host of “The Sheila MacRae Show.”

A native of London, England, Sheila MacRae emigrated to America with her parents during World War II.

Survivors include children Heather and William “Gar” MacRae, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Daughter Meredith died in 2000 and son Robert in 2010, Heather MacRae said.

Funeral services for her mother were pending, she said.

Girls Actress Shiri Appleby Talks Balancing Motherhood, Directing and Roswell

shiri appleby

Shiri Appleby has been very busy lately. On top of appearing in HBO’s Girls as Adam’s Girlfriend, Natalia, Appleby is also in the midst of filming a pilot for Lifetime (Unreal), and directing a one act play in Los Angeles.

Appleby says about directing:

I’ve been acting since I was a child so to move the pieces around and watch a piece evolve from the outside has given me a ton of perspective and insight into the process, as well as clarity about the role of the actor in any given situation.

When she’s not working, she is balancing it all with being a parent to her daughter, Natalie.

“When I am not working, I spend all my time with my daughter and when I am working I try to let myself have the space to be an individual.” Appleby says, explaining how she keeps a healthy balance between work life and motherhood.

…I tell myself that if I’m not with her, I might as well make the most of the time and do my very best. Being a woman who is trying to parent, be in a relationship and manage a career is still a work in progress, but it’s working for me at the current time, and I am enjoying it more than I ever thought possible — quite frankly, I’ve never been so fulfilled.

She is most commonly recognized today from her role on the hit HBO series Girls, which is premiering its third season on Sunday, January 12th. Appleby, who had a great time working on the set, will be making an appearance this season. When asked what her favorite part about working on Girls was, she replied,

My favorite part about being on the set of Girls was how much conversation and care went into each moment that ends up on screen. Lena (Dunham) and Jenni Konner have created a truly creative environment, which is why I think they are able to produce television that is so daring, fresh and real. I feel lucky to have been cast in that show in that they gave me the opportunity to show myself, the audience and the industry that I am capable of going dark, of portraying awkward, uncomfortable moments in life. As an actor, whatever type of role you become known for is usually what people want you to do again, which can stagnate your creativity. It takes being cast by important filmmakers in varying roles to explore the diversity of your talent. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed getting down and dirty and crawling out of the box I had been in professionally for so long, and yes, Natalia makes an appearance in season 3.

In addition to enjoying her time on set, she noticed there was a difference between working on Network Television and working on an HBO series.

It is as basic as what footage the directors have to shoot. On network television, most directors wouldn’t be as risky as to not properly cover each scene with the standard master, two shoot, singles and tight close-ups. Maybe they would add a steady shot, and one fancy move to get in, or out of the scene but other than that, they shoot what is expected of them, word for word, because network television pays significant money and they want to be asked back to the party — and quite frankly, I don’t blame them. While I was shooting Girls, one scene as scripted wasn’t working, and Lena and Jenni had the creative freedom to completely improv the scene without a bunch of phone calls or complete chaos on set. It is invaluable that the creator and executive producer is directing/writing/starring in each episode of their show. Usually on network television, the creator and/or executive producer is in his/her office — which could be in another state or country — breaking stories, dealing with politics and keeping the machine moving so they rarely appear on set. I believe most of the scripts for the Girls season are broken, arched out and partially written before they start shooting, so everyone who is making the show can be an active participant in how the show gets made…

Even after being an established actress (having been on hit shows like ER and Chicago Fire and recently staring as the lead character in the Lifetime movie Kristin’s Christmas Past, Appleby is still hoping to reach an important goal.

“In film, my dream scenario would be to have Nicole Holofcener as a director.”

Holofcener has directed both a few episodes of the hit HBO show’s Sex Feet Under and Sex And The City.

“She has a wonderful style that is so simple and clean, and each one of her films so beautifully expresses the plight of a woman. I would do everything possible to be in her next film — she’s it for me!”

Appleby (36) is still recognized today from her portrayal of Liz Parker from the hit show Roswell. The show aired from 1999 to 2002 and had a huge cult following. Fans of the WB show even sent in bottles of Tabasco sauce to help persuade the station from cancelling the show when it wasn’t doing well. Fans of Roswell will be happy to hear that she still runs into the other actors from time to time.

“I ran into Majandra (Delfino, who played Maria) the other day. Colin (Hanks, who played Alex) and I run in a similar circle, so I see him from time to time. It was so many years ago and I am so proud of what each of them has done with their careers and lives.”

Even more importantly, she would be up for doing a Roswell movie.
