Alec Baldwin Denies He’s Been Cast in Joker Movie

UPDATED, August 29: Alec Baldwin denies that he’s been cast in the Joker movie.

Baldwin tweeted Wednesday: “Let me state, for the record, that I have NOT been hired to play a role in Todd Phillips’ JOKER as some Donald Trump manque. That is not happening. Not. Happening.”

Baldwin informed USA Today that “scheduling” issues were the big reason why he was dropping out of the movie. “I’m no longer doing that movie,” Baldwin told the outlet. “I’m sure there are 25 guys who can play that part.”

Alec Baldwin Tweets Advice To Under-Fire Kathy Griffin

Actor Alec Baldwin has used Twitter to offer some words of comfort to under-fire comedian Kathy Griffin.

Griffin faced a backlash this week after she posed with a bloody mask depicting President Donald Trump’s decapitated head. At an emotional press conference on Friday, she slammed members of the Trump family for subsequently bullying her on social media.

Soon after, Baldwin tweeted Griffin his support:

“Kathy… fuck them. Fuck them all,” wrote Baldwin, who has also faced Trump’s repeated wrath over his potrayal of him on “Saturday Night Live.”

“No 1 believes u meant 2 threaten Trump,” he added. “Trump is such a senile idiot, all he has is Twitter fights.”

Baldwin also recalled a similar backlash he faced in 1998, when he sparked outrage for joking about killing the now late Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Il) on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.”

Zach Braff, Fans Call On Alec Baldwin To Be Trump At Correspondents Dinner

Here’s an idea: Since President Donald Trump has said he’s planning on ditching the annual White House Correspondents Dinner in April, maybe a substitute could take his place. Who better than Alec Baldwin, whose impersonations of the president on “Saturday Night Live” continue to grow eerily close to the real thing?

Actor Zach Braff came up with the idea. After Trump said he wouldn’t be attending the dinner, Braff tweeted to Baldwin that it was time to “suit up.” Other Baldwin fans chimed in.

No word yet from Baldwin. Trump would probably be extremely displeased about the substitution, as he absolutely loathes Baldwin’s impersonations of him and just doesn’t think they’re … well … funny.

Trump would be the first president in over three decades to duck out of the event, which typically features a comedy roast of the president.

It’s not a huge surprise that Trump plans to dodge the event, given his repeated attacks on the media that have included calling the press the “enemy of the people.” After his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday, several media outlets, including The Huffington Post, were barred from a press briefing.

The president’s attacks had the media rethinking the whole dinner affair. The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Bloomberg have canceled their famous event parties, and CNN was considering skipping the sit-down. Comedian Samantha Bee announced earlier this year that she was planning an event to be held the same night with the tentative title of “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.”

The White House Correspondents Association’s event, which hosts D.C. journalists, celebrities and Beltway newsmakers, first began in 1921. The last president to skip out was Ronald Reagan in 1981. He was still rattled by an assassination attempt — but he managed to phone in his comments.

Trump has attended the dinner before, and then-President Barack Obama ribbed him in 2011 for peddling the “birther” conspiracy theory.

Who knows? If Baldwin decides to pick up the gauntlet, perhaps there would also be an open invitation for “SNL” pal Beck Bennett to stand in for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Alec Baldwin-Linked ’30 Rock’ Actor Handed In His Resignation To Donald Trump

Like his “30 Rock” colleague, Alec Baldwin, actor Maulik Pancholy has gone on to join the resistance against President Donald Trump in his own way.

Along with other members of the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Pancholy handed in his resignation to the president on Wednesday, citing Trump’s controversial executive orders affecting refugees and immigrants.

President Barack Obama originally appointed Pancholy to the commission, which works with the federal government to serve Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the United States. His appointment was scheduled to last through September 2017.

The resigning members released a joint letter, excerpted below:

We can no longer serve a President whose policies aim to create outcomes that are diametrically opposed to our principles, goals, and charge … Since your Inauguration, the Executive Orders you have issued and policies you have promulgated have greatly impeded the ability of the federal government to serve all who live here.

The actor tweeted about the decision earlier this week and has spent the last few days retweeting various follow-ups.

Pancholy also wrote his own separate note to Trump:

On “30 Rock,” Pancholy played the assistant to Alec Baldwin’s character, Jack Donaghey. Donaghey memorably fired Jonathan without any thought to prove a point to Tina Fey’s character, Liz Lemon.

It must have felt good for Pancholy to tell Trump there would be no “you’re fired” moment, because he’s already quit.

Here’s the relevant “30 Rock” scene:

Newspaper Runs Photo Of Alec Baldwin Instead Of Donald Trump

Alec Baldwin has won praise for playing President Donald Trump.

And it turns out he’s so convincing, a Dominican Republic newspaper ran a photo of the actor portraying Trump instead of the president. The article discussed Trump’s stance on Israeli settlements, according to Haaretz.

El Nacional issued a correction shortly after the Friday gaffe, but not before it had circulated all over the internet:

Baldwin has been playing Trump regularly on “Saturday Night Live,” much to the president’s annoyance.

In defense of El Nacional, Baldwin’s version of Trump looks far more presidential than the president himself. Baldwin will likely be playing the president again when he hosts this week’s “Saturday Night Live.”

Alec Baldwin’s First-Ever ‘SNL’ Monologue Is Proof The Man Was Born For This

If President Donald Trump is furiously anticipating this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” episode hosted by Alec Baldwin ― and we’re 99 percent sure he is ― he better buckle up.

Baldwin, POTUS’s decided nemesis and a dedicated Trump impersonator, has been an impressive addition since his humble beginnings on the show, as evidenced in NBC’s throwback clip of the actor’s first-ever “Saturday Night Live” monologue in 1990.

The clip shows a young Baldwin taking the stage at New York’s Rockefeller Plaza for the first time, but with his smooth talk and silky confidence you’d never guess it.

“Charming, win them over, get them on your side,” Baldwin, who will ― after this weekend ― have hosted “SNL” a record 17 times, says of doing his first monologue in the clip above. “Now that is something I think I know how to do.”

While Trump has made it known that he hates ― and we mean hates ― Baldwin and the “SNL” team for making fun of pretty much everything he does, we find it hard for anyone to be repelled of Baldwin’s ‘90s-era charm.

Alec Baldwin and Laurie Metcalf in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons at Guild Hall

The first-rate revival of Arthur Miller’s tragedy All My Sons at Guild Hall’s John Drew Theater is a reason to celebrate theater out east. With a cast led by Alec Baldwin and Laurie Metcalf, under Stephen Hamilton’s direction, the drama moves quickly through the moral dilemma of an American family post-World War II. The sons, one presumed dead, one alive, ask for accountability, a heavy load for Joe Keller — that’s Alec Baldwin, his baggy trousers skimming an ample belly held up by suspenders — who is boss, businessman, and bully. When son Chris (Ryan Eggold) asks the big questions about his possible role in the deaths of 21 fighter pilots and the ruin of his partner’s family, Joe defends himself. He’s got a wife, Kate, submissive, damaged, but spiritual, performed by the formidable Metcalf, and a family to support, a good-enough reason to risk sending out faulty airplane parts from his factory — and, in fact, to lie. To his sons, Chris and Larry, his ordinariness is crushing, tragic — he was Father, better than this moral slide. They could accept no less in Miller’s classic drama.

Much rests on Alec Baldwin’s performance. While it takes a beat to get over that this is Alec Baldwin, he is a fine ensemble player, strutting and throwing his weight around, and attentive to everyone scene to scene. He had this kind of pivotal place in Orphans on Broadway a few seasons ago, allowing the actors Ben Foster and Tom Sturridge to shine. Joe’s volatility with Kate, and with Chris, is powerhouse, but they give it back, as does Annie Deever (Caitlin McGee), Larry’s one-time girl, now back for a visit with some revelations of her own.

The Kellers live in a fine house, Michael Carnahan’s set showing an inventive inside staircase and an outside view on the porch, with trees in the front yard. Also noteworthy are Sebastian Paczynski’s lighting and Amy Ritchings’ costumes, especially when Annie returns home in a sundress that instantly shows the sophistication she’s picked up in her move to New York City. David M. Brandenburg’s original music and sound design is memorable, befitting a play that requires that characters “figure it out, if you want to live.”
