Eliza Dushku’s Mother Says She Was Afraid of Her Daughter’s Alleged Abuser Too

A woman claiming to be Eliza Dushku‘s mother said on Facebook that she wished she had been brave enough to stand up to her daughters’s alleged abuser.

In an emotional Facebook post on Saturday, Eliza alleged that stunt coordinator Joel Kramer sexually molested her during the filming of 1994’s True Lies when she was just 12 years old — an incident that she claims she told her a handful of people about including her mother, but that no one, including herself, “seemed ready to confront taboo subject” at the time. (Kramer did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment, nor did reps for Duskhu.)

The post caused a groundswell of fans to reach out in support of the 37-year-old Bring It On star. But among the praises for her bravery was one woman who condemned Eliza’s parents for not protecting her.

It was your parent’s responsibility to do something,” the woman wrote. “I’m sure they were too afraid that it would affect your career. They allowed you to go back to work knowing your life was in his hands. And even after the incident they said nothing. He could had killed you!”

“Your parents had power,” the woman added, explaining that she too had been abused as a child and that her mother had fought back. “Your parents could have told the director, could had called the police and yet they stood silent. Probably allowing this to happen to other children after you. There is no excuse for him; but shame on your parents too!”

Reading those words, an account appearing to belong to Eliza’s mother Judith Dushku responded.

“I accept your condemnation as Eliza’s mother,” she wrote. “No, it was not her career that I feared for, as that meant nothing to me. I was afraid of Joel Kramer, too. And it was years later that I finally understood fully what really happened.”

“At the time, Eliza was too scared to tell the whole story and in a way I think she protected me from knowing because she knew how frightened I was of the powerful men on the set,” she continued. “Her lose was the worst, but abuse can throw a wide net. I only began to understand this many years later.”

She concluded: “Thank you to your mother for what she did for you. I wish I had been that brave.”

Judith did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Eliza was starring in the James Cameron-directed film alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis when she met Kramer — who has worked on many of Schwarzenegger’s films including TwinsTotal RecallKindergarten CopLast Action HeroEraser, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

He was put in charge of her safety on the film, rigging her on wires and harnesses for the action movie’s then-groundbreaking stunts.

But while he was supposed to be Dushku’s protector, she claimed he turned into her abuser — allegedly coaxing her into his Miami hotel room under the guise of a swim trip at the stunt crew’s pool one night only to allegedly strip naked and lay on top of her, rubbing himself all over her until he climaxed.

On the taxi ride home, he allegedly grew aroused again when he put Dushku on his lap in the backseat, she claimed.

In a statement to Variety, Kramer denied Dushku’s claims, calling them “absolutely not true.”

For 25 years, Eliza said she carried the pain of what happened to her. It was only the recent onslaught of Hollywood actresses began out about their alleged experiences with sexual misconduct that she felt brave enough to confront her own dark past.

New Hampshire Mom, 83, and 63-Year-Old Son Charged in Alleged Murder-for-Hire of His Ex-WIfe

An 83-year-old woman and her 63-year-old son are behind bars in New Hampshire after being accused of plotting a murder-for-hire, PEOPLE confirms.

The suspected target was the woman’s former daughter-in-law — her son’s ex-wife — according to court documents obtained by the Boston Globe, the New Hampshire Union Leader and local TV station WMUR.

Asked what went through his mind when he first learned the ages of the suspects, Plainfield, New Hampshire, Police Chief Paul Roberts told PEOPLE, “Never dealt with this before.”

“I’ve learned in this business that you can’t count on anything,” he said, “and most everything is unpredictable.”

Pauline Chase and her son, Maurice Temple, both of Plainfield, were arrested Thursday and appeared in court on Friday via video.

Chief Roberts said details of their alleged plot remain under court seal, and he could not elaborate on the accusations.

Chase is being held on charges of criminal solicitation, conspiracy to commit murder and attempted homicide while Temple is charged only with conspiracy to commit murder, according to jail records.

Both waived their right to arraignment and will return to court on Aug. 7 for probable cause hearings. Their attorneys were not immediately identified, and neither has yet entered a plea.

Court documents reportedly claim the target was Temple’s ex-wife, further alleging that Chase gave $ 5,000 to another man as a down payment on the killing.

“She’s the one that needs to be arrested,” Chase blurted out during her court appearance when the ex-wife’s name was mentioned by the prosecution, reports the Union Leader.

Both Chase and Temple are being held in Plainfield’s county jail on a $ 1 million cash-only bond each, PEOPLE confirms.

Conditions of that bond include no contact by either of them with Temple’s ex-wife or any members of her immediate family or with the man whom Chase allegedly paid or any members of his immediate family, according to Union Leader.

Prosecutors said the man whom Chase is accused of trying to hire is not a suspect, the newspaper reports.

Phone calls by PEOPLE to the district attorney were not immediately returned.

Parents of Alleged Rape Victim Sue U. Alabama After She Kills Herself: ‘Tragic Yet Preventable Situation’

Megan Rondini was a 20-year-old premed student at the University of Alabama in July 2015 when her life changed.

That’s when Rondini, a junior, told friends that she had met a man at a popular bar in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. At some point in the evening, she alleged she was sexually assaulted at his home, possibly after being drugged.

According to her parents, Rondini went into a downward spiral after the alleged assault. They say she suffered depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. She withdrew from the University and returned home to Texas. In February 2016, she hanged herself.

Now Rondini’s parents have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against several people who they say failed her daughter. In the lawsuit, obtained by PEOPLE, Michael and Cynthia Rondini are suing their daughter’s alleged rapist, two university employees, the Tuscaloosa County sheriff, a sheriff’s deputy, and a sheriff’s office investigator.

The complaint alleges that the university did not give Rondini adequate psychological treatment and support after the incident. The suit says that specific University employees “deliberately and repeatedly denied services and mishandled accommodations with hostility.”

The suit also claims that the sheriff’s office inadequately pursued the investigation, and were sympathetic towards the alleged rapist rather than their daughter. The suit also claims that authorities focused on some of Rondini’s actions, including taking a handgun and cab fare from her alleged attacker’s home.

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

The Rondini’s attorney, Leroy Maxwell Jr., did not return PEOPLE’s call for comment, but told AL.com that the family hopes this lawsuit will prevent other families from going through the same thing. “The Rondini family is not in this for the money, they are only interested in shining a bright light on a tragic yet preventable situation,” Maxwell said in a statement. “The court will determine if this case rises to the level of punitive damages.”

Meanwhile, several entities are working together to strengthen their support of sex assault victims. The university is partnering with the nearby hospital, the District Attorney’s office and law enforcement to establish two victim advocacy programs to care for sexual assault victims. The organizations also said in a statement that they are retraining their staffs.

The University of Alabama has defended its actions. “When Megan went to the hospital, a university advocate met her at the hospital to provide support and stayed with her throughout the examination process,” the school said in a statement. “Megan also received information from university representatives regarding services available to her on campus, including counseling through the university’s Women & Gender Resource Center.”

The alleged attacker has not been charged with any crime. He and his lawyer did not return PEOPLE’s calls for comment.

Maxine Waters Just Used Comey’s Testimony To Call Out Trump’s Alleged Sexual Assault

Maxine Waters put President Donald Trump on blast on Wednesday afternoon using his favorite communication medium: Twitter.

A few hours earlier, the Senate Intelligence Committee published James Comey’s seven-page prepared testimony, detailing the former FBI director’s interactions with President Trump. (Comey will be testifying in front of the Senate Intelligence community on Thursday.)

In his testimony, Comey wrote that on Feb. 14 he told Attorney General Jeff Sessions that the President had addressed him alone, something that presidents normally do not do. Comey ― who at the time was still the FBI director ― asked Sessions not to allow President Trump to engage in one-on-one conversations with him because it was “inappropriate.”

Comey wrote (emphasis ours):

I spoke with Attorney General Sessions in person to pass along the President’s concerns about leaks. I took the opportunity to implore the Attorney General to prevent any future direct communication between the President and me. I told the AG that what had just happened ― him being asked to leave while the FBI Director, who reports to the AG, remained behind ― was inappropriate and should never happen. He did not reply.

Later Wednesday afternoon, Congresswoman Maxine Waters used Comey’s testimony to call President Trump out for his lengthy record of alleged sexual harassment and assault. (Sixteen women have publicly accused the president of sexual assault.)

“So Comey told Jeff Sessions he didn’t want to be alone with Trump. Women across the country can relate,” she tweeted.

Only an hour after Waters tweeted the spot-on sentiment, the tweet had received over 5,000 retweets and 12,000 likes.

Manhunt for Alleged ‘Armed and Dangerous’ Facebook Killer Now a National Search

The search for the Cleveland man who allegedly posted a video of himself shooting an elderly man on Facebook has gone national.

At a Monday afternoon press conference, authorities acknowledged that Steve Stephens, 37, could be “anywhere” — and they urged the public to call in tips of the man’s whereabouts.

“This is now a national search,” said Chief Calvin Williams of the Cleveland police. “We don’t know where he is.”

However, authorities believe that Stephens is still likely close to home. “There is no indication that he has left the Cleveland area,” Williams said during the Monday afternoon press conference, “but we can say without a doubt that he’s armed.”

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

Earlier Monday, authorities searched several places of interest, including Stephens’ home, where they removed several items and recovered weapons, Williams said.

Police believe that Stephens is still driving a white Ford Fusion with the temporary tag number E363630

Stephens — described as a 6-foot-1, 244-lb. man with a bald head and full beard — allegedly approached 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. and shot him point blank, killing him. While attacking him, police claim Stephens said in the video that his girlfriend drove him to commit the crime.

Initial reports stated that Godwin’s death was broadcast on Facebook Live, but police have since said that Stephens allegedly killed the man then uploaded the footage to the social media site, NBC News reports.

On Facebook, Stephens allegedly promised that there would be more victims. No other killings have been linked to him at this time and authorities believe his claim was not true, officials said at Monday’s press conference.

An aggravated murder warrant has been issued for Stephens’ arrest.

Early on in the investigation, Stephens spoke with authorities on his cell phone, but authorities said they have not heard from him since, as he has escaped capture, officials said at a Monday morning press conference.

A $ 50,000 reward has been offered for information leading to Stephens’ arrest. Anyone with information is urged to call 1-800-CALL-FBI with tips.

This is a developing story.

T.J. Miller Arrested After Alleged Argument With Cab Driver Over Donald Trump

“Silicon Valley” star T.J. Miller was arrested for suspicion of battery in Los Angeles early Friday after allegedly arguing with a cab driver over Donald Trump

Miller is accused of assaulting the driver after a political argument over Trump around 1 a.m., LAPD officer Jenny Houser told The Hollywood Reporter. It was a citizen’s arrest, as it did not happen in front of officers. Miller, who got into the cab after GQ’s Men of the Year Awards, is accused of slapping the driver in the head, TMZ reported.

There are conflicting reports as to whether Miller had to post bail or not. E! News is reporting he was released for the misdemeanor charge on $ 20,000 bond, while The Los Angeles Times is reporting he was immediately released from custody.

A rep for the actor was not immediately available for comment or clarification. Miller can be seen in “Office Christmas Party,” opening Friday, and is slated to host Sunday’s Critics’ Choice Awards.

The “Silicon Valley” cast has had its fair share of Trump-related woes.

Last month, Miller’s co-stars Kumail Nanjiani and Thomas Middleditch were accosted by Trump supporters in LA who called them “cucks,” a derogatory alt-right term used to describe liberals or anyone who’s anti-Trump.

Illustrators Protest Qatar’s Alleged World Cup Labor Abuses With Redesigned Logos

adidas

Preparations for the 2022 World Cup, to be held in Qatar, may have already cost at least 1,200 people their lives, even though the event itself is still seven years away. If current trends continue, nearly 4,000 people will die constructing stadiums by the time the World Cup actually begins — a shocking 62 people per game played, according to a report by the International Trade Union Confederation.

Migrant workers building World Cup infrastructure have allegedly been forced to work up to 12 hours a day, seven days a week in blistering summer temperatures of 110 degrees Fahrenheit or more, according to an Amnesty International report. Many workers are said to be living in “squalid” conditions, with employers holding on to their identification cards and exit visas and treating the workers themselves “like animals.”

The competition and its sponsor, FIFA, have already come under intense scrutiny due to allegations of bribery and human rights abuses. Fourteen senior FIFA officials were indicted on Wednesday for racketeering conspiracy and corruption, and although Qatar was cleared of corruption allegations last year, Swiss authorities have announced investigations into both Qatar’s and Russia’s World Cup bids. FIFA has said that neither hosting invitation will be rescinded.

Qatar has promised reforms amid the damning reports, but the government has thus far mostly failed to deliver. Meanwhile, four of FIFA’s primary sponsors — Sony, Adidas, Visa and Coca-Cola — have called for investigations into the allegations, but none have pulled out of the World Cup.

As the controversy continues to grow, dozens of illustrators have come together to shed light on the issue. Many of them posted “anti-logos” on Reddit to protest the major sponsors still attached to the World Cup. The art and design blog Bored Panda has compiled some of the best of these images.

Take a look.

Kim Kardashian’s Alleged Nude Photos Leak Online, Many More Celebs Targeted In Hacking Ring (UPDATE)

Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Hudgens and U.S. soccer goalie Hope Solo appear to be the latest victims of the celebrity nude photo hacking ring.

Early Saturday morning alleged nude photos of the stars leaked on 4chan and started trending on Twitter. According to Uproxx, the photos were quickly removed as part of 4chan’s new policy on copyright infringement.

This latest leak is likely the work of the same hackers who released nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Victoria Justice, and an underage McKayla Maroney that the FBI is already investigating.

Hudgens, sadly, is no stranger to having her privacy grossly invaded. If these are in fact photos of the 25-year-old actress, this will mark the third time nude photos of Hudgens have been released to the public without her consent.

Meanwhile, a rep for Kardashian declined to comment, but the 33-year-old reality star weighed in on the hackings earlier this month. “I think it’s a wake-up call for people to make sure they have every privacy setting,” she told BBC Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw. “It seems like there are a lot of people that love to spend their time hacking peoples’ information and that’s just a scary thing.”

Request for comment made to Hudgens’ rep has yet to be returned at this time.

UPDATE: More stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence and “Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco were released on Saturday along with alleged photos of Avril Lavigne, Lake Bell, former Disney stars Aly and AJ Michalka, as well as Mary-Kate Olsen, Aubrey Plaza and Hayden Panettiere.

hacked celebs

And predictably, a new iteration of “The Fappening” has already sprung up on Reddit with this new trove of stolen photos, despite the fact the previous subreddit dedicated to the hacked celebrity images was banned by the site.
