Ant-Man 3: Paul Rudd Thinks Fans Need to Campaign for Sequel

Marvel might have seven mystery MCU movies on their slate dated through 2022, but Paul Rudd seems to have some serious concerns that an Ant-Man 3 will be one of them. In fact, when asked about a planned Ant-Man sequel, he recently suggested fans campaign the “top brass” at Marvel and Disney to try to make it a reality.

Speaking to Yahoo!, Rudd simply responded “I don’t know” when asked if Ant-Man would get to headline a third solo movie. “You need to make a call to the top brass and start a campaign to make it happen,” he said.

Explaining Ant-Man and the Wasp’s New Villain Ghost

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting bigger all the time, with Ant-Man and the Wasp adding several new heroes and villains to the mix. One of those new additions is Ghost (played by Hannah John-Kamen), a sinister villain who — in the comics anyway — lives to make life miserable for the business tycoons of the Marvel U.

If you’re not familiar with Ghost, here’s everything you need to know about the villain and his/her comic book background.

Where most Marvel villains are busy trying to take over the world or feuding with their superhero nemesis of choice, Ghost is more motivated by a love of anarchy and a desire to punish oppressive corporations. Ghost has dedicated himself (more on the character’s gender in a sec!) to attacking the largest corporate empires in the Marvel Universe, using a combination of elite hacking skills and phasing abilities to dismantle them from the inside out. Sometimes he works as a hired mercenary performing acts of corporate espionage. Other times he chooses his own targets. But either way, Ghost is a real thorn in the side of powerful businessmen in general and Tony Stark in particular.

Could Ant-Man, Wasp, and Captain Marvel Come to Fortnite?

Epic’s Fortnite just ascended to a new level of popularity. For a limited time, players of the game’s Battle Royale mode will have the opportunity to play as Thanos from Avengers: Infinity War, complete with his mighty Infinity Gauntlet and all six of the powerful Infinity Stones. For a full guide on how to get Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet in Fortnite, check out our wiki here.

The fact that this crossover is happening in the first place does more than show the power of Fortnite. Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo openly admit to being massive fans of the online shooter, citing it as the game they would play during breaks from editing the film before they up and called Epic’s creative director Donald Mustard to make this a reality. And in doing so, the brothers may have begun an interesting future between Marvel Studios and Epic. Currently, the brothers have a lot of clout thanks to their work on the Captain America sequels and the two Infinity War films. Since they’re the ones who managed to get Thanos in the game in the first place, and depending on how the Thanos event shakes out, it wouldn’t entirely be surprising if Epic were allowed for similar crossovers with other upcoming films in the MCU.

Ant-Man and the Wasp First Look at Hope in Costume

While Marvel has previously unveiled looks at The Wasp art — and the costume on display in the original Ant-Man, star Evangeline Lilly has offered a first look at the actress as Hope van Dyne suited up.

Lilly tweeted out the photo of what appears to be Hope in a classroom in honor of what would have been Jack Kirby’s 100th birthday today, saying “I am honoured to be on set today playing #TheWasp on what would be Jack Kirby’s 100th birthday.”

There’s One Huge Easter Egg In ‘Ant-Man’ You Might’ve Missed

For such a tiny superhero, “Ant-Man” is a big movie.

(Warning: Major “Ant-Man” spoilers!)

The film introduces us to the Ant-Man backstory, connects perfectly into the current Marvel timeline and even ties up some loose ends from another Marvel movie, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” That moment happens in the post-credit scene, which Marvel president Kevin Feige already revealed is a peek at “Captain America: Civil War,” something which “Ant-Man” director Peyton Reed also confirmed to The Huffington Post. But there’s something else you may have missed that’s an even bigger deal.

“Ant-Man” has Marvel’s first big Spider-Man reference.

OK, gosh, hold your horses.

We know Spider-Man is reportedly showing up in future Marvel movies, but rumors of an Easter egg in “Ant-Man” started getting around even before the first screenings. Spider-Man isn’t mentioned by name in the film, so we asked Reed for his thoughts.

“There is one Spider-Man reference,” Reed confirmed to HuffPost. “It really sort of became organic to our story.”

Reed said it all happened because of Ant-Man’s earlier encounter with another Marvel superhero, Falcon, which the director called a true “wish fulfillment” to see those two go against each other. As those who’ve seen the film know, this encounter results in Falcon looking for Ant-Man at the end of the movie. Then, when Michael Peña’s character, Luis, is telling Ant-Man, aka Paul Rudd, that someone’s looking for him, he mentions a female journalist.

Reed said, “This young journalist character, she’s sort of got this inside track and she makes a reference to [Falcon], ‘Okay, you’re looking for this guy. What are his powers? You gotta be more specific because we’ve got guys that do this and that,’ and it just made sense for the story.”

When you watch the movie, look out for that moment. Like we said, she doesn’t mention him by name, but she lists specific powers that should now have your Spidey senses tingling.

The Oscorp Tower from the “Spider-Man” universe reportedly almost made it into the first “Avengers” film, and the building may or may not have made it into “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” depending on who you ask. Still, this is the first no-doubt-about-it reference to our own friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And that makes us feel pretty good.

Marvel Releases A Full-Sized Teaser For The ‘Ant-Man’ Trailer

After whetting our appetites with an ant-sized teaser for the upcoming “Ant-Man” trailer, Marvel has now released a version fit for human eyes. In the spot, Paul Rudd walks alongside some police officers, ocean waves roll, and a couple of people shove each other. The shots will, presumably, have a little more context in the full trailer for the film, which debuts on Tuesday, Jan. 6, during the premiere of “Agent Carter” on ABC.

“Ant-Man” hits theaters July 17.
