Balenciaga Apologizes to Chinese Customers for Fight at Printemps

BEIJING — A video clip of a violent scuffle involving several Balenciaga customers at Printemps in Paris has prompted an apology from the brand, after it fielded accusations that it discriminated against Chinese shoppers.
According to the user who uploaded the video, the fight broke out when French shoppers attempted to enter, bypassing a line of Chinese customers waiting for their turn.
“Boycott Balenciaga discriminating against Chinese. Really angry, queuing up and yet get hit by the people cutting in line. From now on, buy Chinese Li Ning [the sportswear brand],” the video caption read, adding that Balenciaga would not be able to sell its shoes if Chinese consumers stopped buying them.
The brand apologized in a statement on Thursday saying, “The house of Balenciaga regrets the incident that took place yesterday morning at a department store in Paris while customers were waiting to enter its corner shop. The security staff acted immediately to restore the calm. Balenciaga sincerely apologizes to the customers who were present and reaffirms its strong commitment to respect equally all its customers.”
One witness wrote on WeChat that every day she lined up to buy Balenciaga sneakers, and on a daily basis French-Albanian shoppers cut in front but she always held her

Vivienne Westwood Apologizes for Plagiarizing T-shirt

COPY MACHINE: Appropriation may be in vogue, but Vivienne Westwood has possibly taken it a step too far having based one of the T-shirts in its fall 2018 collection on creations by young designers, Louise Gray and Rottingdean Bazaar.
The London-based house, which in 2012 took Anthony Knight to court for trademark and copyright infringement for allegedly copying some of Westwood’s famous punk-inspired orb logos and rebellious slogans, including “Let It Rock” and “Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die,” on garments, posted the following apology on its Instagram page after its Saturday Paris show. It was accompanied by an image of the original Rottingdean Bazaar T-shirt from the label’s fall 2018 show and the copycat design, both modeled on overweight men.

The post sparked a torrent of mainly negative comments. And by midday Sunday it had garnered 16,260 likes.
No one from Westwood or Rottingdean Bazaar could be reached for comment.
Other brands have been less straightforward about their faux pas.
Last June, music producer Swizz Beatz accused Balenciaga of ripping off a shirt produced by Ruff Ryders, the record label founded by his uncles and aunt, in its men’s collection.
This came after creative director Alessandro Michele was criticized for including a copy

Rebecca Minkoff Apologizes for Late Shipments

Rebecca Minkoff experienced some major problems with late shipments and poor customer service this holiday season.
Minkoff, cofounder and creative director, posted an apology on Facebook and Instagram Friday afternoon saying she was “horrified to hear/see/read” from a number of loyal and vocal customers that the company let them down this holiday. “I’m sorry,” she wrote.
The designer blamed the late shipments and problems filling orders on a new third-party warehouse facility. “It has become increasingly clear that our new partner hasn’t kept up with our expectations, their contractual commitments, or our peak season customer demand,” she wrote. “We and they are working around the clock to identify and resolve open orders. We’re working with them to identify a solution to make sure that we have the opportunity to earn back our most valuable asset, the trust and support of our most loyal customers.”
Ironically, Minkoff built her 13-year-old brand on directly engaging with online consumers. The company has embraced technology such as using smart dressing rooms in its stores and selling connected clothing and accessories.
Neither Rebecca Minkoff nor Uri Minkoff, cofounder and chief executive officer, were available for comment Tuesday.

Walmart.com Apologizes for Racial Slur in Product Caption

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. today had to apologize after a vendor’s product was discovered with a caption the retailer called “appalling.”
A third-party vendor on walmart.com, the retailer’s marketplace, used a racial slur to describe the color of a product, a protective cap designed to be worn as a layer in between a person’s real hair and sewn-in hair extensions. The item was brought to light by a Twitter user.
“We are very sorry and appalled that this third-party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace,” a Wal-Mart spokeswoman said. “It’s a clear violation of our policy. The product has been removed and we’re investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened.”
The world’s largest retailer moved quickly to defuse the situation, replacing the “Add to Cart” button with a sold-out notice and disclaimer beneath the product that said, “While we aim to provide accurate product information, it is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and others, and has not been verified by us.”
This isn’t the first time Wal-Mart has had to pull an offensive or controversial product from its virtual shelves. A coffee mug that said “Got Retard?” a Christmas 2016 offering. The product, which was reportedly also sold

After Fueling Their Feud For Weeks, Katy Perry Apologizes To Taylor Swift

Offering a mea culpa mere hours after her feud with Taylor Swift seemed to reach a fever pitch, Katy Perry has said “it’s time” to move on. Another one in the casket.

During an interview on HuffPost namesake Arianna Huffington’s Thrive Global Podcast, Perry said she is ready to put an end to her three years of bad blood with Swift:

I’m ready to let it go. Absolutely, 100 percent. I forgive her, and I’m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her, and I think it’s actually ― I think it’s time.

There are bigger fish to fry, and there are bigger problems in the world. I love her and I want the best for her, and I think she’s a fantastic songwriter, and like, I think that if we both, her and I, can be representatives of strong women that come together despite their differences, I think the whole world is going to go, like, ‘Yeah, we can do this.’

Maybe I don’t agree with everything she does, and maybe she doesn’t agree with everything I do, but like, I just ― I really, truly, want to come together, and in a place of love and forgiveness, and understanding and compassion.

Perry then belted out a line from “Frozen” anthem “Let It Go” before adding, “There’s a lot of other things out there in the world that people need to be focused on. God bless her on her journey. God bless her. Honestly. I want to operate in a positive, kind space. I want to be an example of kindness, compassion, love, and I forgive and forget. That wasn’t easy for me.”

HuffPost reached out to Swift’s representatives for comment, but we did not receive an immediate response. Swift has been relatively quiet during this round of the pop singers’ public disputes, aside from releasing her catalog on Spotify, Tidal and other streaming services on Friday, the same day that Perry’s new album debuted. In the past, Swift had declined to join such platforms because of their chintzy compensation for artists’ work.

In case you need a refresher, this whole fracas dates back to 2014, when Swift said she had co-written the song “Bad Blood” about a onetime friend who “did something so horrible” and “tried to sabotage an entire arena tour.” That “horrible” thing involved Swift’s dancers leaving the singer’s roadshow to join Perry’s, per their contract agreements.

After that, Swift and Perry’s flap escalated, with each taking shots at the other in both subtle and direct ways. Two weeks before her new album’s arrival, Perry amplified the situation again during a Carpool Karaoke appearance on “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” saying, “Honestly, it’s really like she started it, and it’s time for her to finish it. It’s about backing dancers. There were three backing dancers. I tried to talk to her about it and she wouldn’t speak to me.”

Ryan Murphy Apologizes To Women In Hollywood For The Industry’s Lack Of Equality

Ryan Murphy has a message for the women of Hollywood.

In a touching speech during The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment breakfast on Wednesday, the “Glee” creator accepted the Equity in Entertainment Award, kicking things off with an apology.

“I am going to begin my speech this morning by telling the women in this room a few things I am guessing no man in your life or in Hollywood has ever said to you lately, or in combination,” he said. “I am sorry. It was my fault. I could have done better and I’m going to do better. And I have no interest in sleeping with you, I just like you a lot.”

The opening comments garnered laughs from the crowd. Murphy then got serious, launching into an anecdote about the “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia” episode ― about deputy district attorney Marcia Clark ― of “The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”

For that particular episode, Murphy explained he hired a female director, but when she wasn’t able to complete the show due to a medical emergency, Murphy decided to step in. The show, as a whole, was a huge success, and Sarah Paulson, who played Marcia Clark, went on to win a Golden Globe for her work.

As Murphy noted, though, he “did not feel triumph” once the episode aired. He felt “ashamed.”

“I have always had female directors on my shows, but why, here, didn’t I feel I had a roster of women around me who I could turn this important episode over to?” he said, adding, “Why did I make the choice that was easier for me but not for the material or the world in general?”

In his speech, the director continued to talk about the “unacceptable way, today, that female directors are treated and marginalized in our business.” He said that only 15–17 percent of working television industry directors are women, which “should make no sense to us.”

Murphy has made it his mission to promote gender equality in the entertainment industry. In February, he launched the Half Foundation, which aims to provide more opportunities for women, people of color and members of the LGBTQ community working in show business.

Murphy has been doing his part, with about 60 percent of directing jobs within his company going to women

“What I have learned, in only 11 months, is if you have power and you want to bring positive change, everyone will conspire to help you do that. But you have to speak up,” he said.

Jacob Wetterling’s Killer Gets 20 Years in Prison — as He Apologizes to Jacob’s Family

The man who abducted, molested and then killed 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling in 1989 was sentenced Monday to 20 years in prison, PEOPLE confirms — and he could spend the rest of his life in state custody.

Daniel Heinrich was sentenced on one count of receipt of child pornography in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis, nearly three months after his confession in Jacob’s disappearance resolved a decades-old cold case, court officials tell PEOPLE.

At the hearing, Heinrich was confronted by Jacob’s family and friends, according to multiple reports. They shared decades of grief over Jacob’s loss.

“He hurt my heart, my soul, every fiber of my being when he murdered my son Jacob,” Jacob’s mom, Patty Wetterling, said at the sentencing, according to the Star Tribune.

“I miss Jacob so very much,” said Jacob’s dad, Jerry Wetterling, according to the paper. “It wasn’t just Jacob’s physical body missing these last 27 years. More importantly, I miss the things I never got to experience.”

Jacob’s brother, Trevor, said, “Any person that does not value another person’s life — and at any time they feel that their back is against the wall and is willing to kill a child for no reason except to save themselves from being caught — does not deserve to be free.”

“This monster was able to live free with his secret for almost 27 years, 9,815 days free, without paying for what he did to my brother,” Trevor said.

Jacob’s sister Carmen said, “I am taken back to this nightmare every time the leaves start to change. The time I have spent hoping, praying, searching for my brother cannot be measured.”

And Jacob’s sister Amy said, “While I have no idea what my life would be like if Jacob had never been taken, I do know that it would have been without 27 years of pain directly caused by Danny Heinrich.”

Heinrich read a brief statement himself, apologizing for his crimes, according to the Associated Press and Star Tribune. “Mr. and Mrs. Wetterling, the heinous acts of selfishness are unforgivable … I’m so sorry,” Heinrich said.

“I am truly sorry for my evil acts — for the victims and their families — and the shame that I brought on to myself and my family,” he said, according to the Pioneer Press.

While Heinrich may reportedly be eligible for release after 17 years, he could be civilly committed as a sex offender in Minnesota and remain in state custody. If he is released, he will be required to register as a sex offender and be under a lifetime of court-ordered supervision, according to the Star Tribune.

(Neither federal prosecutors nor Heinrich’s defense team immediately responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment on the sentencing. The Wetterlings have not responded to inquiries since Heinrich’s confession.)

Speaking from the bench on Monday, Judge John Tunheim, who sentenced Heinrich, said, “The long nightmare is not over, there is no closure to the ‘why?’ No one is ever going to forget Oct. 22 of 1989. But we will move forward.”

“We are in a better place as a society because of the commitment the Wetterling family has made to Jacob and to other children,” Tunheim said, according to the Star Tribune.

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

Indeed, as Jacob’s loved ones remembered the pain of his death, they also spoke of his inspiring life and spirit.

“In eleven years, I think Jacob taught us all so much about life, how to make a difference, how to be happy, how to make others happy,” Jacob’s best friend, Aaron Larson, said at the hearing, according to a transcript obtained by PEOPLE.

“Life is hard, but Jacob showed us how great this hard life can be,” Larson added.

Jared Scheierl, who Heinrich sexually assaulted months before Jacob vanished, when Scheierl was 12, also read a statement in court, according the Star Tribune. “He should know that the words that he had spoke to me on that evening haunted me for years, and I don’t chose to hear anything he wishes to say at this time,” he said.

In a statement following the sentencing, the Wetterling family said, in part, “We are so grateful for the collaborative effort that it took to find answers.”

“We are getting stronger every day and we will deal with the finality of the search for answers, but like many other realities of life, healing has its ebbs and flows,” the Wetterlings said. “We are feeling good one moment and may be in tears from hearing a song that touches our hearts the next moment.”

In an unorthodox bargain with prosecutors that was approved by the Wetterlings, Heinrich admitted to Jacob’s abduction, assault and slaying, as well as Scheierl’s sexual assault — and he at last led investigators to Jacob’s remains.

In exchange, he was only sentenced on one count of child pornography, following his 2015 arrest.

Heinrich was named as a person of interest in Jacob’s disappearance in October 2015, when authorities say they also recovered 19 binders and several hard drives containing images of minors in sexual situations from Heinrich’s home. But the lack of other evidence pointing toward him, including a body, hindered the investigation and any possible prosecution.

As a federal prosecution source previously explained to PEOPLE,  “ is not getting away with murder. It wasn’t a choice we really had. It was a bittersweet moment, but we got there.”

“The choice wasn’t to try him for murder or not,” the source said. “It was to bring Jacob home or not.”

And so in September, Heinrich confessed in full, in court, to having abducted Jacob at gunpoint near his home, molesting him and then fatally shooting him in the head on Oct. 22, 1989.

Speaking at Monday’s sentencing, Jacob’s father thanked Heinrich for finally revealing what had happened to their son and leading police to his body, according to the Star Tribune.

Patty also addressed Heinrich directly.

“You didn’t need to kill him,” she said. “He did nothing wrong. He just wanted to go home.”

Jim Carrey Apologizes For Tweeting Photo Of Boy With Autism In Anti-Vaccine Rant

Jim Carrey spent Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning tweeting about his anti-vaccination views, and on Thursday night he apologized for including a photo of a young boy without permission.

The actor had sent out an image of the boy, who has autism, as part of a series of tweets challenging a new California law that eliminates personal-belief exemptions for childhood immunizations.

The mother of Alex Echols asked Carrey to remove the photo of her son, noting that he had not been given permission to use it.

The picture, which has since been removed, was attached to a tweet that read, “A trillion dollars buys a lot of expert opinions. Will it buy you? TOXIN FREE VACCINES, A REASONABLE REQUEST!” It was included among several images of distraught children with autism.

The scientific consensus, based on multiple studies, is that the vaccines distributed in the United States do not cause autism. Moreover, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that thimerosal, the specific compound that Carrey argues can lead to autism, was removed from childhood vaccines more than a decade ago, except for some flu vaccines.

Alex’s aunt, Elizabeth Welch, posted a screenshot of Carrey’s tweet on Instagram. In the caption, she said that her nephew does have autism but was diagnosed before receiving any vaccinations.

Carrey is not the only anti-vaccine celebrity. Most notably, there’s his former girlfriend, Jenny McCarthy, whose son has autism.

Jay Mohr Apologizes On His Blog For Fat-Shaming Alyssa Milano

In a now-famous tweet she sent out on Christmas Day, Alyssa Milano took comedian Jay Mohr to task for making offensive comments about her body — and finally, he’s apologized.

On Thursday, he admitted that what he said was just a big fail, in a tweet to Perez Hilton and Milano (though still speaking about the actress in the third person).

The “joke” Mohr was referencing was something he said on his podcast after hosting the Dec. 6 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Awards in Las Vegas where Milano was a presenter. “It seems like she had a baby and said, ‘I don’t really give a s**t’ … I read it on her gut… Somebody sat in the director’s chair and was not wearing Spanx and I was like, ‘Jesus Christ,'” he said, in part.

Milano’s comeback was pitch-perfect and completely classy.

There was no immediate response from Mohr. Milano’s fans (aka, anyone who grew up in the 80s), however, applauded her. As one commenter, on the HuffPost Parents Facebook page, wrote: ” Funny I know exactly who Alyssa Milano is but had to google Jay Mohr…I know him as the guy who fired Jerry maguire….check yourself Jay Mohr we all grew up with Alyssa Milano. [sic]” Jezebel, being Jezebel, called him a “residually famous person,” and pointed out that his wife, Nikki Cox, “is probably super-embarrassed right now.”

And that brings us up-to-date — 18 days after Mohr and Milano attended the event together, nine days after Milano took the high road and more than a full day after the comedian said, effectively, Wait, it was just a joke! — to Friday, when Mohr posted an actual apology on his blog.

“Comedians have a hole on their insides that can only be filled by generating constant content that is, many times, improvised in the moment. Unfortunately, in rare instances, it causes irreparable harm,” it begins.

I know full well how much words can hurt people, having seen my wife get destroyed by the tabloids, and I am embarrassed that I didn’t think before I spoke. Alyssa is an extraordinarily beautiful person—both inside and out. Alyssa is a mother, a wife, an actress, and a class act that should always be celebrated. Sometimes comedians go too far. I went too far. I cannot change what I said, but I can assure you that my heart is broken that I hurt her. I am very sorry. With the utmost sincerity, Jay Mohr
