Emporio Armani to Host Coed Runway Show in September

MILAN — Emporio Armani is the latest Italian brand to opt for a coed show.
As Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana president Carlo Capasa revealed during a press conference on Thursday presenting the schedule of the upcoming Milan Men’s Fashion Week, the fashion label will skip its traditional men’s fashion show in June to host a coed runway show in September during the city’s Women’s Fashion Week. The coed show won’t take place at Giorgio Armani’s theater on Via Bergognone, as per tradition, but in a still-undisclosed location. That said, the signature Giorgio Armani men’s show will be held on June 18 at the theater.
Separately, Furla said on Thursday it will also stage a coed presentation in September.
While Emporio Armani joins the likes of Gucci and Bottega Veneta, for example, Capasa announced new entries in the June calendar including London-based Besfxxk and Italian label Vìen. South Korean fashion house Spyder, French brand Ih Nom Uh Nit and Italian fashion houses Doucal’s and Triple RRR, the line designed by Roberto Cavalli’s son Robert. Diesel Black Gold will not hold a show, but will present its spring collection to retailers, while the second Diesel Red Tag capsule collection will be unveiled on the catwalk. Giorgio Armani Postpones His One Night Only in Shanghai

NOT JUST NOW: Giorgio Armani’s One Night Only event, expected to be held in Shanghai on May 25, has been postponed. A Giorgio Armani spokeswoman attributed the delay to technical and logistic reasons, adding that the event will most likely take place next year.
The designer was slated to travel to Shanghai and he was planning to include a retrospective of his Giorgio Armani Privé Haute Couture collection.
The One Night Only series traveled through London in 2006; Tokyo in 2007; Beijing in 2012; Rome and New York in 2013, and Paris in 2014. On the latter occasion, the designer paraded his spring Privé collection, which was followed by an exhibition of couture dresses, accessories and jewelry titled “Eccentrico.” The One Night Only event in Paris was held at the Palais de Tokyo.

Sporty accents injected a dynamic vibe into the Emporio Armani pre-fall collection.
The brand developed a versatile city wardrobe featuring the label’s signature combination of masculine and feminine details.

Giorgio Armani Pre-Fall 2018

“Seductive sobriety” was the expression which Giorgio Armani used to describe his pre-fall collection.
In a way, this season, Armani, who was born outside Milan in Piacenza, went back to his roots and he recalled that thick fog which used to surround the city during the long winters of his youth.
The designer translated his memories into the collection through the use of soft tones and plush fabrics wrapping the body with warm coziness.
Different tones of gray defined a range of pieces, including a little jacket worked in an Art Deco-inspired chevron motif and embellished with printed leather lapels punctuated by hand-painted maxi buttons. A lighter gray hue gave a chic attitude to a collarless coat worn over silk Bermuda pants and a chevron top, while gray was combined with pink, white and black on a leather blazer splashed with an abstract interpretation of a floral pattern.
Flowers, recalling Henri Matisse’s paintings, also peppered a silk romper trimmed with Kidassia fur, which was layered under a maxi Mongolian fur coat.

Giorgio Armani to Dress the Italian Olympic Team Again

WINTER GAMES: Giorgio Armani is back in the Olympics.
The designer strengthened its partnership with the Italian National Olympics Committee, or CONI, unveiling the EA7 Emporio Armani collection created for the 2018 Italian Olympic and Paralympic teams competing in the upcoming Winter Games, running Feb. 9 to 25 in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Armani first sponsored Italy’s team at the London Olympic Games in 2012 and consequently supplied the official sports uniforms at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
At the upcoming Games, the EA7 modular wardrobe supplied to each athlete will include a technical-fabric ski tracksuit and mantle; a long down coat; a jumper; a polo fleece shirt, and cotton trousers, among others. Garments will be crafted in midnight blue and feature details recalling the Italian flag’s signature green-white-red colors, in addition to the EA7 logo.

LONDON — Giorgio Armani gave this beleaguered city a lift -—and a shower of stardust — opening his newly refurbished Emporio Armani store on New Bond Street, hosting a party where Ellie Goulding and A-ha performed, and showcasing the work of young London talents at his spring 2018 runway event on Sunday night.
To mark his big moment in the country that on Friday witnessed its fifth terror attack this year, 700 black cabs and double-decker buses were customized with Emporio campaign images, while the London Eye and County Hall were specially illuminated with an Emporio Armani projection on the first night of London Fashion Week.
It has been 11 years since Armani has done anything big in London: In 2006, the brand took over Earl’s Court to show the spring 2007 collection with Leonardo DiCaprio and James Franco in the audience and Beyoncé performing at the event, which raised money and awareness for AIDS.
This time around it was all about the new face of Emporio, and while the event was on a much smaller scale, the energy — and positivity — weren’t lacking at the Tobacco Dock show and party venue in east London.

FINK TWICE: The sleek and minimalist Armani/Silos space emphasized Larry Fink’s beautiful and striking black-and-white photos, displayed as part of the exhibition “The Beats and The Vanities, Larry Fink,” running until the end of July. “This gave me the opportunity to glance at a world that was distant from mine, not so perfect and not part of me,” said Giorgio Armani at the opening event on Tuesday, carefully observing the images. “It allowed me to come out of my rigorous, perfectionist world, but then you see that the poses, the lights, the cut of the photos seem studied inch by inch. Each take is the perfect choice.”
The exhibit comprises 125 original black-and-white photographs, of which 54 are from Fink’s book “The Beats,” chronicling his hitchhiking trip through America in the late Fifties. ‘Armani, Gucci Only’: NYPD Assists Luxury Shoppers Near Trump Tower

One of these things is not like the other. “Trump Tower, Armani, Gucci Only,” reads new signage posted to New York Police Department checkpoints on Fifth Avenue.
It would appear the NYPD posted the signs after growing tired of inquiries from luxury shoppers about store closures near Trump Tower. WWD observed the posters — laden with emboldened arrows — as they abated confusion for the Alessandro Michele-crazed.
“[The signs] have been here one week, maybe two,” said a police officer posted at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, at the corner of Tiffany & Co. He was unable to verify if the signs had been printed by the NYPD or if they had been issued by the Trump Tower in an effort to appease its tenant, Gucci, and the neighboring Armani. Both stores are understood to be feeling the impact of reduced traffic, with passerby mitigated by security barricades.

New Book on Giorgio Armani Hits Bookstore

MILAN — “I haven’t got any complaint yet, so it may all be OK,” said Italian journalist Giusi Ferre’ at the presentation of the book she wrote on Giorgio Armani, referring to the designer’s reaction.
Published by Marsilio, the book features a provocative, unexpected title: “The radical sex,” and hits stores today [Nov. 26].
“I really wanted to use the word sex but I wanted to define it,” explained Ferre’. “Through his fashion, Armani communicated a precise sexuality, controlled but strong at the same time. And it’s radical because he put the accent on a liquid convergence of the two genders.”
The journalist better clarifies this idea in the preface of the book, where she draws the cultural scenario which served as backdrop for Armani’s revolutionary approach to men’s and women’s fashion.
“It was Giorgio Armani’s fashion to express, almost unwittingly, the idea of gender when between the Seventies and the Eighties gender studies were starting to flourish. These were taking the steps from a wave of the feminist movement and were finding ideas in the analysis of both the post-structuralism and French deconstructionism, especially Michael Foucalt and Jacques Derrida,” Ferré writes in the preface.

Giorgio Armani: No Successor ‘On the Horizon’

MILAN — As a young man, Giorgio Armani saw a shirt —  in a gingham print — in a movie that caught his fancy. He went hunting for it in several shops, and could not find it. Sales clerks asked him incredulously: “But checks are for tablecloths in trattorias. Why would you want to look like a tablecloth?”
It was at that moment that Armani realized he could do something in fashion.
The designer recounted that story at a press conference Monday to introduce his Rizzoli tome, “Giorgio Armani,” released as part of his 40th anniversary festivities. With Sophia Loren, Lapo Elkann, Robert Wilson and the international press before him, Armani was asked if, given his age of 81, he had identified the designer who would succeed him.
The designer replied that his “ego forced him to say there will never be anyone else like Giorgio Armani,” prompting a round of applause and a few cheers from the audience. Then he added that he did not see anyone in particular “on the horizon,” while acknowledging that “there is a movement [of designers] that have the will to be avant-garde.”

Beatrice Borromeo Wears Armani Privé for Religious Wedding

A week after their civil wedding, Beatrice Borromeo and Pierre Casiraghi took their religious vows August 1. This time, Borromeo chose to wear a custom Giorgio Armani Privé gown. The flared ivory dress with Chantilly lace and layers of silk chiffon was paired with a delicate silk tulle veil, also with a Chantilly lace border. The wedding took place at Isolino di San Giovanni, one of the islands owned by the Borromeo family on Italy’s Lake Maggiore.
For the reception, the bride wore another custom Privé gown in white silk tulle with micro draping, a deep neckline and a train in pleated silk tulle that started at the shoulders. Two family heirloom antique diamond wing brooches were pinned on the train.
Armani also made white silk shirts and Bermuda shorts for the ring bearers, as well as the bridesmaids’ dresses and shrugs in pink and white.
The bride’s mother, Paola Marzotto, grandmother Marta Marzotto and sisters Lavinia, Matilde and Isabella also wore custom Privé dresses.
As reported, Borromeo wore a pale pink Valentino Haute Couture cape dress to marry her longtime beau Casiraghi on July 25 in a civil ceremony at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco.
