Giorgio Armani Cruise 2020

In his first runway show for a cruise collection, Giorgio Armani touched down in the island nation of Japan, and brought with him even more of an island vibe.
“The collection is a condensed version of my style, which has remained consistent over the years — like an island in the fashion system,” the designer said. “The burnt, neutral colors and tactile, raw textures reference characteristic island landscapes.”
Even the runway itself resembled water flowing over sand, with clear Plexiglass panels covering a beige carpet and throwing ripple-like reflections onto the surrounding walls. The show began with looks in neutral shades, eventually moving on to more vibrant reds and blues. But each look was relaxed and easy, with lots of fluid shapes.
Armani also made ample use of soft, natural textures. Linen, silk and satin were accented with leather trim and sumptuous knits. Lightweight fabrics were often used in voluminous pieces, from oversized women’s blouses and flowing ponchos to pleated men’s trousers that gathered at the ankle like jogging pants.
The accessories were also big and bold. Wide belts with exaggerated buckles defined the waist of coats and pants, tortoiseshell necklaces were chunky and layered and brooches and earrings packed a punch

A|X Armani Exchange to Sponsor E-sports Team

PRESS START: A|X Armani Exchange is set to be the first fashion brand to debut in the world of e-sports — professional multiplayer video game competitions — as it will sponsor the Italian team Mkers for the 2019-20 season.
As a result, Mkers will be the global ambassador of the A|X Armani Exchange line, sporting a new official uniform supplied by the brand on the stages of the main video game tournaments worldwide.
“We are proud to be the first e-sports team chosen by a prestigious brand like Armani Exchange,” said Mkers chief executive officer Paolo Cisario on Monday. “It is a reward for all the effort sustained up until this moment, and it gives great credibility not just to us and the investors that believed in our project, but also to the entire Italian e-sports industry. Now the real challenge will be to yield tangible results.”
The team’s cofounder Thomas Degasperi added that “partnering with such a relevant brand is the perfect opportunity to reinforce our journey toward internationalization, which has already begun with the acquisition of world-renowned athletes.”
The sponsorship is part of a relaunch strategy of the A|X Armani Exchange label, which will also debut at the Pitti Uomo men’s trade

Giorgio Armani to Hold Signature Men’s Show in June at Storied Via Borgonuovo HQ

HOME SWEET HOME: For the first time in 18 years, Giorgio Armani will show his namesake men’s collection for spring 2020 at his storied headquarters at 11 Via Borgonuovo.
The show is scheduled on June 17 at 5 p.m., closing Milan Men’s Fashion Week, which kicks off on June 14.
Armani took control in 1996 of the stately 17th-century building, Palazzo Orsini, named after the 12th-century family, but in 2001 the designer unveiled offices and his Teatro, designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando on Milan’s Via Bergognone — in a former Nestlé industrial area, and effectively helping to revamp that part of the city.
The Emporio Armani show will be held at the Teatro on June 15 at 11 a.m.
The designer has most recently been experimenting with different formats and venues. Last September, he staged a coed Emporio Armani show at Milan’s Linate Airport — at the Hangar where the imposing Emporio Armani billboard has been placed since 1996. That was the first time a fashion show was held at that site and it was followed by a Robbie Williams concert.
In February, for the first time, Armani held a coed show for his signature line at Silos, the exhibition space he opened in 2015, opposite the

Giorgio Armani to Stage First Resort Runway Show in Tokyo

MILAN — Giorgio Armani is the latest designer to take his resort collection on the road.
Armani is staging his first runway event for a pre-collection on May 24 in Tokyo. The venue and other particulars could not immediately be learned.
The show is to coincide with the reopening of the Giorgio Armani Tokyo flagship situated in the Ginza shopping district. The designer plans to fete the reopening the same night of the show with a cocktail event.
The store was first unveiled in 2007 inside the Armani/Ginza Tower, which features the Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani and Armani Casa collections, along with the brand’s then-first spa, an Italian restaurant and a Privé bar.
Armani last hosted a runway show in Tokyo in 2007 as part of his One Night Only series of events, parading his spring 2008 Giorgio and Emporio Armani collections. Last year the format was slated to take place in Shanghai on May 25, but was postponed for technical and logistic reasons.
Last November, Valentino staged a runway show combining for the first time its men’s and women’s pre-fall collections in Tokyo, and a few days later Dior Men showcased its first men’s pre-fall runway show with a collection designed by Kim Jones

Armani Privé Couture Spring 2019

Invitations for Giorgio Armani’s Privé haute couture show arrived with a satin pouch containing three vials of his new fragrance, Laque — a teaser for a collection that paid homage to Asia as seen through an Art Deco prism.
Having traded the cavernous Palais de Chaillot for more intimate venues, the designer took over a succession of salons in the Hôtel d’Evreux for his leisurely display, which drew A-listers including Uma Thurman, Céline Dion, Juliette Binoche, Dakota Fanning and Amber Heard.
In line with the Jazz Age theme, models wore snug flapper caps dripping with beaded fringe, or miniature conical hats with stiff veils. The show kicked off with a pair of shiny metallic gray trouser suits with graphic Art Deco motifs, establishing the season’s ruler-straight shoulder line.
That power shoulder was a recurring motif, appearing on a zigzag-patterned pink and gray jacket, as well as on evening looks such as a fiery red sequined dress topped with a matching buttonless crocodile coat that had an almost liquid sheen.
Indeed, the collection was awash in scarlet, a color not normally associated with the king of greige, but one that tied in neatly with the lacquer theme, not to mention bringing good luck in Chinese

Giorgio Armani Shows his Love of Colors

TRUE COLORS: The photographic exhibit “Fabula,” unveiled Friday evening at the Armani Silos space, isn’t what one would really expect from Giorgio Armani–and the designer knows it. “I was tickled by the idea that people think I love neutrals so much, that this is a contradiction and that Armani doesn’t love colors, but, actually, here they are,” said Armani during a walkthrough. “I fell in love with these color palettes, and I had fun with the images.”
Indeed, the exhibition of more than 250 images by French photographer Charles Fréger, his largest to date and running until March 24, is joyful and entertaining, capturing a variety of subjects from around the world, ranging from the Finnish ice-skating team and images of young Sumo wrestlers and Sikh soldiers to whimsically and artfully painted Jaipur elephants or quirky yet traditional masked costumes.

Armani, who years ago staged his own “Eccentrico” exhibition said there is a “need for eccentricity today. He lamented how generally “we are now stupidly attracted by small and banal things, but we need to be stimulated.” In fashion, too, it seems “anything now is an invention, but that’s not true. We must be inventive.”

Cate Blanchett Talks Witchcraft at the Giorgio Armani Show

CASTING A SPELL: Cate Blanchett took a break from the promotional tour for her new film, “The House With a Clock in Its Walls,” to travel to Milan with her son Roman for a weekend of fashion-related events.
At the Giorgio Armani show on Sunday morning, the 14-year-old boy warmly hugged Roberta Armani, the niece of the designer, and practiced Italian greetings with TV presenter Jo Squillo.
“We were overdue for a mother-son weekend and it was kind of a great confluence of events, really,” said Blanchett, who the previous evening attended parties hosted by W magazine and Pomellato, and also planned to go to the Green Carpet Fashion Awards on Sunday night.
The Giorgio Armani global beauty ambassador plays a witch opposite Jack Black in her new fantasy comedy, and she welcomed the way women are reclaiming the term.
“I think it’s long had negative connotations or frightening connotations but, you know, we live in England where it’s quite a pagan country in a lot of ways, and witches were people that you went to for healing purposes, so they actually have incredibly ancient power and wisdom,” she mused.
Blanchett is gearing up to play comedian Lucille Ball in a biopic, but she hasn’t

Emporio Armani to Host Coed Runway Show in September

MILAN — Emporio Armani is the latest Italian brand to opt for a coed show.
As Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana president Carlo Capasa revealed during a press conference on Thursday presenting the schedule of the upcoming Milan Men’s Fashion Week, the fashion label will skip its traditional men’s fashion show in June to host a coed runway show in September during the city’s Women’s Fashion Week. The coed show won’t take place at Giorgio Armani’s theater on Via Bergognone, as per tradition, but in a still-undisclosed location. That said, the signature Giorgio Armani men’s show will be held on June 18 at the theater.
Separately, Furla said on Thursday it will also stage a coed presentation in September.
While Emporio Armani joins the likes of Gucci and Bottega Veneta, for example, Capasa announced new entries in the June calendar including London-based Besfxxk and Italian label Vìen. South Korean fashion house Spyder, French brand Ih Nom Uh Nit and Italian fashion houses Doucal’s and Triple RRR, the line designed by Roberto Cavalli’s son Robert. Diesel Black Gold will not hold a show, but will present its spring collection to retailers, while the second Diesel Red Tag capsule collection will be unveiled on the catwalk. As reported, according to market sources, Diesel founder Renzo

Giorgio Armani Postpones His One Night Only in Shanghai

NOT JUST NOW: Giorgio Armani’s One Night Only event, expected to be held in Shanghai on May 25, has been postponed. A Giorgio Armani spokeswoman attributed the delay to technical and logistic reasons, adding that the event will most likely take place next year.
The designer was slated to travel to Shanghai and he was planning to include a retrospective of his Giorgio Armani Privé Haute Couture collection.
The One Night Only series traveled through London in 2006; Tokyo in 2007; Beijing in 2012; Rome and New York in 2013, and Paris in 2014. On the latter occasion, the designer paraded his spring Privé collection, which was followed by an exhibition of couture dresses, accessories and jewelry titled “Eccentrico.” The One Night Only event in Paris was held at the Palais de Tokyo.

Emporio Armani Pre-Fall 2018

Sporty accents injected a dynamic vibe into the Emporio Armani pre-fall collection.
The brand developed a versatile city wardrobe featuring the label’s signature combination of masculine and feminine details.
Effortless chic suits, including one in a wool fabric with a denim-like appearance, were cut with elongated blazers and generous pleated pants. More fitted and cropped jackets were worked in multicolor jacquards inspired by digital graphic art, while the Emporio Armani eagle logo was splashed on a casual quilted bomber matched with dark indigo boyfriend jeans.
An athletic feel was injected in a pair of boxing-inspired shorts worn with a jersey parka. A casual padded hooded jacket paired with matching wide-leg pants was crafted from a printed shiny fabric with a vinyl effect.
Quintessential feminine looks included a sequined mini frock with a polka dot tulle insert and a silk dress with an inlaid belt exuding Eighties’ sensuality.

Giorgio Armani Pre-Fall 2018

“Seductive sobriety” was the expression which Giorgio Armani used to describe his pre-fall collection.
In a way, this season, Armani, who was born outside Milan in Piacenza, went back to his roots and he recalled that thick fog which used to surround the city during the long winters of his youth.
The designer translated his memories into the collection through the use of soft tones and plush fabrics wrapping the body with warm coziness.
Different tones of gray defined a range of pieces, including a little jacket worked in an Art Deco-inspired chevron motif and embellished with printed leather lapels punctuated by hand-painted maxi buttons. A lighter gray hue gave a chic attitude to a collarless coat worn over silk Bermuda pants and a chevron top, while gray was combined with pink, white and black on a leather blazer splashed with an abstract interpretation of a floral pattern.
Flowers, recalling Henri Matisse’s paintings, also peppered a silk romper trimmed with Kidassia fur, which was layered under a maxi Mongolian fur coat.
A more sporty and casual attitude informed another group of pieces, such as a graphic chevron bomber showing an asymmetric zipper, a jersey sweatshirt embroidered with the Giorgio Armani logo, as well as an oversize

Giorgio Armani to Dress the Italian Olympic Team Again

WINTER GAMES: Giorgio Armani is back in the Olympics.
The designer strengthened its partnership with the Italian National Olympics Committee, or CONI, unveiling the EA7 Emporio Armani collection created for the 2018 Italian Olympic and Paralympic teams competing in the upcoming Winter Games, running Feb. 9 to 25 in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Armani first sponsored Italy’s team at the London Olympic Games in 2012 and consequently supplied the official sports uniforms at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
At the upcoming Games, the EA7 modular wardrobe supplied to each athlete will include a technical-fabric ski tracksuit and mantle; a long down coat; a jumper; a polo fleece shirt, and cotton trousers, among others. Garments will be crafted in midnight blue and feature details recalling the Italian flag’s signature green-white-red colors, in addition to the EA7 logo.

La Vita Armani: Giorgio Armani Sweeps Into London to Showcase Emporio Collection

LONDON — Giorgio Armani gave this beleaguered city a lift -—and a shower of stardust — opening his newly refurbished Emporio Armani store on New Bond Street, hosting a party where Ellie Goulding and A-ha performed, and showcasing the work of young London talents at his spring 2018 runway event on Sunday night.
To mark his big moment in the country that on Friday witnessed its fifth terror attack this year, 700 black cabs and double-decker buses were customized with Emporio campaign images, while the London Eye and County Hall were specially illuminated with an Emporio Armani projection on the first night of London Fashion Week.
It has been 11 years since Armani has done anything big in London: In 2006, the brand took over Earl’s Court to show the spring 2007 collection with Leonardo DiCaprio and James Franco in the audience and Beyoncé performing at the event, which raised money and awareness for AIDS.
This time around it was all about the new face of Emporio, and while the event was on a much smaller scale, the energy — and positivity — weren’t lacking at the Tobacco Dock show and party venue in east London.
“We’re very emotional about this show and, also, my uncle is

Shawn Mendes Closes the Emporio Armani Show

MENDES MODELS: Shawn Mendes admitted he was “a little nervous” ahead of his runway appearance on the Emporio Armani runway. He shouldn’t have worried – even if it was somewhat awkward. As he self-consciously held his arm aloft, he walked and skipped down the catwalk to the tune of his hit “Mercy” at the close of  the show. Mendes said he was “not used to wearing high fashion” but that he eased into it with the Armani looks for their “fit and comfort.” Mendes fronts the ad campaign for the new Emporio Armani smartwatch, presented at the tail end of the show with a video and officially launched on Saturday evening at the designer’s megastore in Milan. The venue was already under siege by Mendes’ fans in the afternoon–scorching sun be damned.

Giorgio Armani Unveils Larry Fink Exhibition

FINK TWICE: The sleek and minimalist Armani/Silos space emphasized Larry Fink’s beautiful and striking black-and-white photos, displayed as part of the exhibition “The Beats and The Vanities, Larry Fink,” running until the end of July. “This gave me the opportunity to glance at a world that was distant from mine, not so perfect and not part of me,” said Giorgio Armani at the opening event on Tuesday, carefully observing the images. “It allowed me to come out of my rigorous, perfectionist world, but then you see that the poses, the lights, the cut of the photos seem studied inch by inch. Each take is the perfect choice.”
The exhibit comprises 125 original black-and-white photographs, of which 54 are from Fink’s book “The Beats,” chronicling his hitchhiking trip through America in the late Fifties. The other 71 are from “The Vanities,” his portfolio of images interpreting Vanity Fair’s Oscar parties and Hollywood events in the 2000 to 2009 period. This is the first time they are all displayed together.
Armani was upbeat about the potential of the Silos, which can also become a source of inspiration. “I always said that I wanted to hold events here beyond fashion. Milan needs to be alive,

‘Armani, Gucci Only’: NYPD Assists Luxury Shoppers Near Trump Tower

One of these things is not like the other. “Trump Tower, Armani, Gucci Only,” reads new signage posted to New York Police Department checkpoints on Fifth Avenue.
It would appear the NYPD posted the signs after growing tired of inquiries from luxury shoppers about store closures near Trump Tower. WWD observed the posters — laden with emboldened arrows — as they abated confusion for the Alessandro Michele-crazed.
“[The signs] have been here one week, maybe two,” said a police officer posted at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, at the corner of Tiffany & Co. He was unable to verify if the signs had been printed by the NYPD or if they had been issued by the Trump Tower in an effort to appease its tenant, Gucci, and the neighboring Armani. Both stores are understood to be feeling the impact of reduced traffic, with passerby mitigated by security barricades.

Tiffany’s branded barricades are still on view, with coordinating bellhops posted at the entryways. “I think it was the NYPD [who put up the signs]. They were being asked about the stores every two seconds, so it saves them a lot

Giorgio Armani Addresses the Trumps

ARMANI SPEAKS UP: “That’s my job; why shouldn’t I dress a beautiful woman if she asks me to?” In his usual frank manner, Giorgio Armani spoke his mind about the designer topic du jour: Whether to dress Melania Trump. “This goes beyond politics.” As for her husband, the designer said after the Emporio Armani show on Saturday that President-elect Donald Trump has “improved physically, he is slimmer, his tuft of hair is less big and it’s less cob-like. Also the way he addresses things is less over the top, more discreet. It’s difficult to say about the future, but I hope his actions will allow his critics to have cause to see things differently.”
Asked about the performance of his fashion company in 2016, Armani admitted it was “a complicated year,” which closed with revenues down 5 percent on 2015, although profitability was not dented. Armani had revenues of 2.65 billion euros in 2015, or $ 2.94 billion at average exchange. “We have a lot of money in the bank, which is a rare thing,” he said with a smile. The year 2017 will continue to be “tough,” he conceded. “Nobody can really wave the flag of joy. It will take a couple of years. Everything is changing —

Beatrice Borromeo, Royal Twins Wear Armani on Monaco’s National Day

FIT FOR PRINCES: Giorgio Armani can add two more royals to his list of high-profile celebrities wearing his designs. On Monaco’s National Day celebrated in Montecarlo on Saturday, also known as The Sovereign Prince’s Day, twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella wore Armani Junior looks. The offspring of Prince Albert of Monaco and Princess Charlene, Prince Jacques wore a milky white single-breasted cashmere jacket with appliquéd pockets and gold satin buttons, a classic poplin shirt and light wool pants in the same color, while Princess Gabriella donned a satin dress with a bodice and skirt in multilayered tulle, completed by a satin sash tied at the waist with a bow, a wool shrug and a coordinated cashmere coat with gold satin buttons.
A visibly pregnant Beatrice Borromeo, who is married to Pierre Casiraghi, wore a Giorgio Armani Privé dress in crêpe cady and a roomy cashmere coat in a thea rose hue.
In August 2015, Borromeo wore Armani Privé for her religious wedding at Isolino di San Giovanni, on Italy’s Lake Maggiore.
Casiraghi is the son of the late Italian entrepreneur Stefano Casiraghi and Princess Caroline of Hanover, daughter of the late Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco. Borromeo, a former model and a journalist, is

New Book on Giorgio Armani Hits Bookstore

MILAN — “I haven’t got any complaint yet, so it may all be OK,” said Italian journalist Giusi Ferre’ at the presentation of the book she wrote on Giorgio Armani, referring to the designer’s reaction.
Published by Marsilio, the book features a provocative, unexpected title: “The radical sex,” and hits stores today [Nov. 26].
“I really wanted to use the word sex but I wanted to define it,” explained Ferre’. “Through his fashion, Armani communicated a precise sexuality, controlled but strong at the same time. And it’s radical because he put the accent on a liquid convergence of the two genders.”
The journalist better clarifies this idea in the preface of the book, where she draws the cultural scenario which served as backdrop for Armani’s revolutionary approach to men’s and women’s fashion.
“It was Giorgio Armani’s fashion to express, almost unwittingly, the idea of gender when between the Seventies and the Eighties gender studies were starting to flourish. These were taking the steps from a wave of the feminist movement and were finding ideas in the analysis of both the post-structuralism and French deconstructionism, especially Michael Foucalt and Jacques Derrida,” Ferré writes in the preface.
The book, which is the first of a new fashion-focused series

Giorgio Armani: No Successor ‘On the Horizon’

MILAN — As a young man, Giorgio Armani saw a shirt —  in a gingham print — in a movie that caught his fancy. He went hunting for it in several shops, and could not find it. Sales clerks asked him incredulously: “But checks are for tablecloths in trattorias. Why would you want to look like a tablecloth?”
It was at that moment that Armani realized he could do something in fashion.
The designer recounted that story at a press conference Monday to introduce his Rizzoli tome, “Giorgio Armani,” released as part of his 40th anniversary festivities. With Sophia Loren, Lapo Elkann, Robert Wilson and the international press before him, Armani was asked if, given his age of 81, he had identified the designer who would succeed him.
The designer replied that his “ego forced him to say there will never be anyone else like Giorgio Armani,” prompting a round of applause and a few cheers from the audience. Then he added that he did not see anyone in particular “on the horizon,” while acknowledging that “there is a movement [of designers] that have the will to be avant-garde.”
Asked if he considered himself a revolutionary in fashion, Armani enumerated three of his inventions

Beatrice Borromeo Wears Armani Privé for Religious Wedding

A week after their civil wedding, Beatrice Borromeo and Pierre Casiraghi took their religious vows August 1. This time, Borromeo chose to wear a custom Giorgio Armani Privé gown. The flared ivory dress with Chantilly lace and layers of silk chiffon was paired with a delicate silk tulle veil, also with a Chantilly lace border. The wedding took place at Isolino di San Giovanni, one of the islands owned by the Borromeo family on Italy’s Lake Maggiore.
For the reception, the bride wore another custom Privé gown in white silk tulle with micro draping, a deep neckline and a train in pleated silk tulle that started at the shoulders. Two family heirloom antique diamond wing brooches were pinned on the train.
Armani also made white silk shirts and Bermuda shorts for the ring bearers, as well as the bridesmaids’ dresses and shrugs in pink and white.
The bride’s mother, Paola Marzotto, grandmother Marta Marzotto and sisters Lavinia, Matilde and Isabella also wore custom Privé dresses.
As reported, Borromeo wore a pale pink Valentino Haute Couture cape dress to marry her longtime beau Casiraghi on July 25 in a civil ceremony at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco.
