Young Royals Attend 2017 BAFTA Film Awards in London

RED CARPET ROYALS: The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William attended the 2017 BAFTA Film Awards in London on Sunday evening.
The royal couple made their way down the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington. The event, which is known as Britain’s version of the Oscars, highlighted the notable films of 2016. Prince William — who has served as president of the BAFTA association since 2010 — presented the BAFTA Fellowship, a lifetime achievement award, to Mel Brooks.

The duke and duchess have attended a few BAFTA events in the past. In 2015, the duo joined Prince Harry at the BAFTA premiere of “Shaun the Sheep: The Farmer’s Llamas” in London where she wore a blue printed Tabitha Webb dress.

A Nearly Unrecognizable Game of Thrones Actress, and More Best Dressed From BAFTA TV Awards

Across the pond in London last night, Brits celebrated their TV stars with the BAFTA TV Awards, and the fashion, as you’d hope, was simply smashing (Briticism required). The best-dressed mix included actresses we’ve have grown to love, plus new names with style so sharp (not to mention a Game of Thrones actor or two), it might be time to start tuning in internationally. Take a look:

Sophie McShera, Downton Abbey‘s Daisy, still surprises when she’s in anything but a kitchen apron (and there have been so many seasons for us to get used to the phenomeon!). Last night, she picked an elegantly simple combo of floor-sweeping skirt and cropped top.

maisie-williams-blue-lace-dress-bafta-tv-awards
The other surprise glamour girl was Maisie Williams, who looked sweet and super feminine in a periwinkle lace pick by Self Portrait. Her Game of Thrones arc might have her out of the boyish togs, but it’s still doubtful that anything this divine is coming up for Arya.

ophelia-lovibond-snake-print-dress-bafta-tv-awards
British beauty Ophelia Lovibond has made her mark in U.S. television, appearing stateside in Elementary, and one could argue our style sense has rubbed off on her. Rather than go the prim English rose route, she picked a crop-top gown with a scaly-but-glam snake print.

donna-air-pink-dress-bafta-tv-awards-2015
The best angle of Brit TV presenter Donna Air’s peachy gown was from the side, where the shape of the sculpted hip panels was on full display. That construction wasn’t just for looks, either—the custom House of Fraser piece had LED lights on the sides and bodice that lit up.

dianna-agron-black-sheer-dress-bafta-tv-awards-2015
The night’s award for chicest American in London certainly went to Dianna Agron, who did all-black with sheer sleeves that reached to her wrists. Her top is from Simone Rocha and the skirt is Comme des Garçons.

For further proof that it’s insane to see favorite TV characters IRL, please reference all of these Game of Thrones women.

BAFTA Nominations: ‘Gravity,’ ’12 Years A Slave’ Leading Contenders Of UK Film Awards (VIDEO)

LONDON (AP) — Space thriller “Gravity” and unflinching slavery saga “12 Years a Slave” are among leading contenders for the Academy Film Awards, Britain’s equivalent of the Oscars.

“Gravity” has nominations in 11 categories, including best picture and lead actress, for Sandra Bullock. “12 Years” star Chiwetel Ejiofor and director Steve McQueen had 10 nominations, including for best picture.

Acting nominees announced Wednesday include Leonardo DiCaprio for “The Wolf of Wall Street” and Judi Dench for “Philomena.”

The British prizes, known as BAFTAs, will be awarded at London’s Royal Opera House on Feb. 16.

They are considered an indicator of likely success at Hollywood’s Academy Awards two weeks later. Last year, Iran hostage drama “Argo” took the BAFTA for best film and the best-picture Oscar.
