Before her mother’s death, both mother and daughter were able to work together on Fisher’s last film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“My momby had an otherworldly obsession with the northern lights, but I never got to see them with her,” Lourd wrote next to two pictures showing green flashes lighting up the sky. “We journeyed to northern Norway to see if we might ‘see the heavens lift up her dark skirts and flash her dazzling privates across unworthy irises.’ And she did.”

Emma Stone Honors 50th Anniversary of Billie Jean King’s Triple Crown Win at the U.S. Open

On Saturday Emma Stone performed a very special tribute to Billie Jean King in honor of the 50th anniversary of the tennis icon’s triple crown win in 1967.

Together with Tony nominated singer/songwriter Sara Barellis, Stone paid tribute to King at a pre-match ceremony at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City, where the U.S. Open is currently being held.

In 1967, King won her triple crown by finishing first in the women’s singles, women’s doubles, and women’s mixed doubles championship at the U.S. Open.

Stone is playing King in the upcoming movie Battle of the Sexes, which tells another remarkable story from King’s career.

In 1973, King famously defeated ex-champion Bobby Riggs at the Houston Astrodome in a match nicknamed “Battle of the Sexes.” Riggs thought there was no way a woman could beat him at tennis, but clearly he was wrong.

At the time so many people turned in to watch “Battle of the Sexes” that it became the most-watched sporting event of all time.

Curiously enough, during filming Stone rarely sought King out to discuss her character, although King had an explanation for that.

“She didn’t want to because I’m in my 70s, and she said I’m more fully formed as a person,” King said. “She said, ‘I want to know what was feeling at 28 and 29 when she played Bobby.’ That’s where she had to concentrate.”

Battle of the Sexes will be released in theaters on Sept. 22.

Citizen Watch Partners With Billie Jean King

Citizen Watch is teaming with tennis legend Billie Jean King.
The former world number-one women’s player and 12-time Grand Slam champion is the subject of the forthcoming feature film “Battle of the Sexes,” starring Emma Stone and Steve Carell.
Citizen, this year marking its 25th year as the official timekeeper for the U.S. Open, has pledged itself as the “exclusive timepiece sponsor” for the film. The movie is due in theaters on Sept. 22.
As such, Citizen has also pledged involvement with King’s Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative, which looks to engage younger generations in the game of tennis and promote gender equality.
Ellen Seckler, Citizen’s executive vice president for marketing, said of the brand’s new partnership: “It was a natural choice for us to partner with such an inspiring individual, such as Billie Jean King, who holds true many of the same ideals as Citizen. King’s nonstop initiatives to bring equality and fairness to the world, sports and beyond, mirrors Citizen’s existing efforts to empower and support our younger generations.”
King said Citizen “over the years has distinguished itself by supporting causes focused on equality. Together with Citizen and the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative, we will present many exciting programs and amplify the messages

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Defends Festival Set Following Acrobat’s Death: ‘We Are Not Heartless People’

Following criticism of Green Day for carrying on with their show at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid on Saturday after an acrobatic performer died, singer Billie Joe Armstrong said the band did not know of the tragedy until after their set.

Pedro Aunion Monroy, 42, was performing an aerial stunt inside a cube being suspended by a crane when he fell 100 ft. in front of thousands of people. He died from his injuries, according to the BBC.

“Many of you are wondering why we continued to play our show after the accident,” Armstrong explained in a statement obtained by PEOPLE and posted on Green Day’s website. “Green Day did not hear about the accident until after our show was over. We didn’t even know there was an acrobat performance at all.”

He continued, “These festivals are huge. There are so many things happening at the same time it’s impossible to keep up with every performer/artist.”

Armstrong said that the band was warming up at the artist compound about half a mile away from the festival stage before the show.

He shared that they were delayed about 15 minutes from going on due to what they were told was a security problem.

“Security issues are a normal occurrence and procedure at any show. We were NOT told why which is also normal. We waited as we were instructed,” Armstrong said. “Still, we had no clue there was any such accident.”

The rocker said everything seemed “normal” during the show and the fans were having a good time.

“We got off stage and drove back to our artist compound. It was there when we were told the shocking news about Pedro,” he said. “All of us were in disbelief. I don’t know why the authorities chose not to tell us about the accident before our concert. All we know is what was said after our concert.”

He continued, “This has never happened in the 30 years Green Day have been performing live. If we had known prior to our performance we most likely would not have played at all. We are not heartless people. The safety and well being at any of our concerts absolutely comes first. What happened to Pedro is unthinkable. Once again we are heartbroken for his friends and family.”

Taylor Lautner Has Been ‘Like A Husband’ To Girlfriend Billie Lourd

In December, actress Billie Lourd lost both her mother Carrie Fisher and her grandmother Debbie Reynolds just one day apart

A post shared by Billie Lourd (@praisethelourd) on

In the wake of their sudden deaths, Lourd and her uncle Todd Fisher ― Carrie’s brother ― have leaned on each other heavily. And it seems Lourd has also found an incredibly supportive partner in boyfriend and “Scream Queens” costar Taylor Lautner.

In an interview with E! News, Fisher said he always tends to be “suspicious of the guy hanging around [his] niece,” and yet had nothing but wonderful things to say about Lautner.

“The truth of the matter is, the guy is pretty spectacular,” Fisher said. “He’s a really deep person, and he has supported her amazingly. He’s stepped up and acted like a husband would act. Not that that’s what’s going on, but it’s just an amazing support system for her, and I’m glad he’s in her life.”

On December 27 ― the day the “Star Wars” actress died ― Lautner posted a sweet photo with Lourd on Instagram with a caption that read, “This girl is one of the strongest, most fearless individuals I’ve ever met. Absolutely beautiful inside and out. I’m lucky to know you @praisethelourd. ❤️, me.”

The “Twilight” actor was also in attendance at the memorial and funeral for Fisher and Reynolds in January. The following week, Lautner and Lourd vacationed together in Mexico, further sparking rumors of a romance. And the pair has been spending a lot of quality time together ever since.

Last Chain On Billie

Last Chain On Billie

Against the backdrop of a glittering but brutal circus world, Carol Bradley’s Last Chain on Billie charts the history of elephants in America, the inspiring story of the Elephant Sanctuary and the spellbinding tale of a resilient elephant who defied the system even as she struggled to conquer her past, who never lost sight of the life she was meant to have. Left in the wild, Billie the elephant would have spent her days surrounded by family, free to wander the jungles of Asia. Instead, traders captured her as a baby and shipped her to America, where she learned to carry humans, stand on a tub and balance on one leg – the full repertoire of elephant tricks. For decades, Billie crisscrossed the country, dazzling audiences as she performed breathtaking stunts. But behind the scenes she lived a life of misery: traveling in trucks, chained for hours on end, barely able to move, giving eight-minute performances under harsh lights and to the sounds of blaring music. And worse. Finally, she got a lucky break. As part of the largest elephant rescue in American history, Billie wound up at a sanctuary for performing elephants in Tennessee, able once more to roam through open meadows and share her days with a herd. She would never be beaten again. But, overcome with anxiety, she withdrew from the rest of the elephants and refused to let anyone remove a chain still clamped around her leg. Her caregivers began to wonder if Billie could ever escape her emotional wounds. The compelling story of Billie’s battle to reclaim her old self is a testament to the intelligence, emotional complexity and remarkable strength of all elephants, captive or free.
