Blizzard Hopes to Modernize Classic With ‘Warcraft III: Reforged’

Blizzard Halts Development on Hearthstone’s Tournament Mode

Blizzard announced today that it’s putting development of Hearthstone: Heroes of WarCraft’s tournament mode, which Blizzard had previously planned to release this year, “on hold.” According to Blizzard, the company felt the tournament functionality it was creating would only appeal to a small audience of players.

But the publisher still sees tournaments as “an important part” of expanding Hearthstone’s social features.

“Tournaments can serve many different audiences, but the implementation we’d arrived at catered to a very specific audience of players. Instead of broadening Hearthstone with an exciting new way to play, it felt ‘tacked on,'” reads a post on Hearthstone’s website “and wasn’t integrating well into the larger Hearthstone experience.”

Blizzard Might Be Teasing Overwatch’s Next Hero and Map

A genetically modified gorilla (or monkey) like Winston might be Overwatch’s next hero.

Blizzard has posted a new Overwatch blog entry describing some of the events that took place on Horizon Lunar Colony, the home of Winston. Notably, it’s revealed that Winston isn’t the only specimen missing from the base. So is someone or something called Hammond.

The Burglar and the Blizzard (Illustrated Edition)

The Burglar and the Blizzard (Illustrated Edition)

This is a novella – a book that’s longer than a short-story, but not as long as a novel. It is fun! Right about Christmas-time, a burglar who has had considerable success in the neighborhood is caught in the act by a man who used to be his classmate. The burglar has been selling most of stolen goods in order to support himself and his sister. Some of the goods he gives to his sister, telling her he bought them at discount stores! And she believes it! The burglar and the man who caught him are trapped in the house by a blizzard. The burglar’s sister is brought to the house, and that’s when the fun really starts! A truly entertaining read for the whole family, and a surprise Christmas-present ending. This edition of the book contains eight original illustrations, rejuvenated, and two additional Christmas illustrations that are unique to this edition of the book. Alice Duer was born in New York City on July 28, 1874 into a wealthy family. She was the daughter of James Gore King Duer and Elizabeth Wilson Meads. At the time of her entrance into society, her family lost most of its fortune. She entered Barnard College in 1895 studying mathematics and astronomy. She helped to pay for her studies by selling novels and short essays. She and her sister, Caroline, jointly published a book of poems. Alice graduated in June 1899. Alice Duer Miller died in 1942, and was interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Morristown, New Jersey.

Blizzard Had Help From Black Ops 3 Dev on Overwatch

Developer Blizzard Entertainment had a bit of help getting Overwatch’s shooting just right. Being the studio’s first first-person shooter, Blizzard called in Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 team for help.

Treyarch assisted in one particular area—aim assist. “If you’re not familiar with the terminology, aim assist isn’t ‘auto aim,’ it’s just the game making it a bit easier to keep your crosshairs on the target,” assistant game director Aaron Keller told GamesRadar.

Aim assist is frequently used in console shooters, Keller added, making it something the Black Ops team is “quite familiar with.”

Jon Stewart Finds The Most Ridiculous Blizzard Coverage

Snowpocalypse 2015 was such a big nothing in some areas, especially in New York City, that one weather forecaster even apologized.

So what’s a network hyping a storm supposed to do? On Tuesday night’s “Daily Show,” Jon Stewart said they had some options.

“Acknowledge that conditions had changed. Ease up on the breathless hype. Focus your attention on New England, where it was actually really snowing,” Stewart suggested. “Or desperately cling to the original narrative like dingleberries on a sheep’s ass.”

Stewart played clip after clip of reporters overreacting to small amounts of snow. However, he aimed his sharpest icicles at CNN, which sent Don Lemon out in a “Blizzardmobile.”

“Blizzardmobile? Settle down, Batman, it’s a Ford Explorer,” Stewart said. Then, referring to some of the highly controversial statements Lemon has made on the air recently, Stewart showed an image of the CNN reporter working from a Dairy Queen truck.

“And by the way, with the way you’ve been reporting lately, you’re lucky you’re not in an actual ‘Blizzardmobile,’” Stewart said.

But the CNN “Blizzardmobile” gave Stewart an idea: Maybe the “Daily Show” can take it to the next level.

Stewart sent correspondent Jordan Klapper out in a car, a bicycle and a sled to to interview people about everything from Yemen to the Greek election.
