“Maddox was a sweet and loving little boy who was full of laughter,” his obituary reads. “He loved Paw Patrol, his Teddy, playing with his bouncy balls, but above all he loved his mom and dad the most.”
At Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, North Carolina, Maddox’s visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m., and his funeral will be held on Friday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m., the obituary noted. A private burial will also take place.
In the funeral home’s guestbook, one well-wisher wrote, “Your beautiful spirit, smile and beautiful blue eyes left an impression on my life.”
Maddox, who had autism and limited verbal skills, was walking with his father and another adult at Gastonia’s Rankin Lake Park on Sept. 22 when he took off running.
Maddox’s father Ian Ritch told PEOPLE on Tuesday, “I was terrified. I didn’t know which direction he went so I looked as hard as I could, I went different ways and everything.”
He continued, “I tried to find him. I don’t know where he went. Usually when he takes off running he’ll slow down and stop for me to catch up with him. This time he never stopped.”
More than a dozen law enforcement agencies, including FBI officials in Charlotte, searched for Maddox before his body was found in about two or three feet of water in Long Creek, just one mile east of Gastonia’s Rankin Lake Park, on Thursday. Gastonia police confirmed the news to PEOPLE in a statement.

FBI agent Jason Kaplan said at a press conference that Maddox’s body was “camouflaged.” He explained, “It was extremely difficult to see him even when we were standing right next to him. He was in the creek, in water. Partially underwater.”
“Now im no heroe i couldnt save him or protect him at all,” his father wrote on Facebook. “I would give anything to go back and save him. … From this moment on for the rest of my life i will live with the guilt of not being there to save my son. The most important person in my life.”
The Mecklenberg County Medical Examiner’s office told PEOPLE earlier this week that the cause of death had yet to be determined.
FBI agent Jason Kaplan said Thursday it was “too early” to say whether foul play is suspected and an investigation is ongoing.
Maddox’s mother Carrie Ritch tearfully pleaded for his return at a press conference on Tuesday.
“I just want my baby home, please,” she said. “Whatever you can do. Maddox is my whole world, and my reason for living. He’s momma’s boy.”
Maddox is survived by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, according to his obituary.

Numerous athletes have turned to rapper Eminem for their pregame routines — like Naomi Osaka, who recently defeated Serena Williams at the U.S. Open Women’s Finals — and the same goes for superfan LeBron James.
James has not hidden his love of Eminem’s new record, Kamikaze, and has routinely shared videos of himself rapping to songs from the album on his Instagram Story. So when the Los Angeles Lakers took to their practice facility in El Segundo on Wednesday, ahead of the start of the NBA’s regular season on October 16, James took over the team’s music playlist to get his fill of the “Killshot” rapper (who is in the midst of a feud with Machine Gun Kelly).
“Today’s white boys Wednesdays,” James told reporters. “Seriously. You’re laughing, but today’s white boys Wednesdays, so only white boy music day, which I enjoy.”
But the music selection wasn’t just limited to Eminem, James said.
“I love Eminem, but it wasn’t just Eminem. We had a lot of good music today,” he said, before mentioning Luke Walton and Mark Madsen, two white members on the team’s staff. “ Luke and Mad Max, all those guys. It was a good day!”
After reporters laughed at the concept of the team dedicating a day to white musicians, James played it down as just another typical day.
“It’s a universal thing, right?” he asked reporters, according to USA Today. “It’s just like taco Tuesdays. It’s a thing. You guys look at me crazy when I said it, like, ‘Oh, , white boys Wednesdays.’ ”
The music-themed practice session seems to be the team’s attempt to create chemistry with each other, just three months after James, a former Cleveland Cavaliers player, joined the team, along with a slew of other new members.
“We had fun yesterday, too,’’ James said. “That’s what work’s all about. If you’re not having fun doing what you do, then you got the wrong profession.’’
James and the new-look Lakers are hoping to put up a fight against the Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, the team that has repeatedly triumphed over the Cavaliers during the four consecutive times that met in the NBA Finals (the Cavs won a single time in 2016).
But James has been working to temper expectations, as many players on the team are young and haven’t even reached the NBA Playoffs, let alone the championship round. This has led 33-year-old James to take on a mentor role with his new Laker teammates.
“I got to bring in the approach I get from home,” James said on Tuesday, according to ESPN.
“When you have three kids, you have to be patient. I’m not calling these guys kids; they’re young men here, and some of these men have families as well. But you learn that you have to be patient and you have to gauge everyone individually very different to get the most out of them.”
James will make his debut with the Lakers against the Portland Trailblazers on October 18.

Italian director Pupi Avati knew he wanted Sharon Stone to star in his film, “Golden Boy.” What he didn’t know, he told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview on Friday, is how difficult it would be to work with her.
Avati told The Hollywood Reporter that he was thrilled that Stone agreed to act in the low-budget project, until Stone’s reps reportedly reached out with a lengthy list of demands.
“It was a negotiation that bordered on ridiculousness, concerning embarrassing details, as if Italy was a third world country. By the way, we do have electricity in Italy,” he said.
The director claimed Stone’s antics didn’t end there, either. According to Avati, when Stone saw a television crew and photographers filming a scene, she allegedly left the set unannounced.
“Then my brother [Antonio Avati] received a phone call from Los Angeles from her manager. She wouldn’t come back on the set until the photographers and especially that damned TV cameramen had gone away. Obviously we did so and she, like nothing happened, shot the scene. The thing that I found most absurd is that she had to call to the States and to close herself in a car, instead of coming to ask us directly,” Avati said.
“None of this is true,” a representative for Stone told HuffPost Entertainment in an email. “Ms. Stone is the consummate professional.”
This isn’t the first time someone has alluded to Stone being difficult to work with. In a scathing 2010 piece for Deadline.com, Nikki Finke, the site’s former editor-in-chief, slammed the actress for her on-set behavior.
