One of the world’s newest royals is Princess Sofia, formerly Sofia Hellqvist, who married Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip this summer. Her style was good as a commoner and her Ida Sjöstedt wedding gown made a serious point: this was a woman ready to give Kate Middleton a run for the best-dressed royal title (or, ahem, Princess Mary, who officially took the honor).
Earlier this week Sofia and her hubby made their first royal trip to Värmland. The royal couple arrived by train (something Kate and Wills would totally do too) and the princess’s outfit was built for comfy traveling. She paired cropped trousers with Ferragamo ballet flats, covered up with a Gant suede coat, and carried a totally non-flashy bag from Longchamp.
To spend some time in the countryside, she got more practical, swapping out the ballet flats for wellies. Her suede coat wouldn’t have put up a good fight against the rain either, so it was replaced by a long-sleeve white blouse.
Princess Sofia switched into her third outfit for the afternoon. The handsome pair visited the home of Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf, and Sofia chose a simple outfit, tucking a white top into a simple skirt.
A dinner for 60 offered up Sofia’s final chance of the day to get dressed. She opted for more simplicity with a knee-length black shift dress, beige Saint Laurent heels, and sheer tights—just like Duchess Kate. Until we get access to the pic, see the whole outfit here. We already knew the new princess could rock skinny jeans with the best of them. With official proof that she’s a rock star when it comes to royal outings too, it’s clear she’s got serious style.
