Only the Brave Foundation Supports Charity Music Event in Florence

LOVE SONG: Only the Brave Foundation is supporting That’s Live 2018, a charity music event taking place at Florence’s Artemio Franchi soccer stadium on July 21.
In particular, the foundation, established by OTB founder Renzo Rosso, has secured the participation of Courtney Love as the event’s special guest.
Love will sing her “Celebrity Skin” and “Malibu” hits, along with a still undisclosed cover song with guitarist Tad Kubler.
That’s Live 2018 is organized by Rockin’1000, an initiative established in 2015 that brings together 1,000 professional musicians on the same stage.
Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the San Patrignano rehab community located in Rimini, in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region.
“The first time I saw the Rockin’1000 video, I thought, ‘I want to do that!’” said Love, referring to a video, which became viral online, featuring the 1,000 musicians playing Foo Fighters’ “Learn to Fly” song in Cesena in 2015. “The sight and sound of a thousand musicians connecting with their audience in this open, transcultural way was incredible. It reminded me of the early punk scene, with its community centered around diversity and acceptance. And after I learned about Rockin’1000’s and Only the Brave Foundation’s commitment to San Patrignano, a charity dedicated

Fans Brave Freezing Weather for Chiara Ferragni Event

IN ABSENTIA: Chiara Ferragni is guaranteed a good turnout wherever she goes, but on Sunday, her fans thronged to an outdoor event in freezing Milan even though the influencer was bedridden thousands of miles away in Los Angeles.
“Chiara is doing better,” said Andrea Lorini, chief executive officer of Chiara Ferragni Collection, referring to Ferragni’s recent pregnancy scare.
The style star, who is engaged to Italian rapper Federico Lucia, known as Fedez, was ordered to rest by her doctor this week, triggering an outpouring of support from her 11.7 million followers on Instagram. She has canceled all her appointments for the next few months but was watching Sunday’s proceedings from afar, Lorini said.
Some onlookers huddled under foil survival blankets as they waited for the happening to start. Shortly after 2 p.m., models wearing outfits from Ferragni’s fall collection, titled Stardust, began to align on the scaffolding of a building on Corso Garibaldi in the heart of the city’s fashionable Brera district.

Missing 5-Year-Old’s Mom Pleas for Public’s Help as She Addresses Her Son: ‘Be Brave, Honey’

The mother of a California 5-year-old who’s been missing for nearly a month delivered an impassioned plea this week for the public’s help in locating her son, who she believes is still alive.

Ana Estevez addressed reporters on Wednesday, telling them the disappearance Aramazd Andressian Jr. has rattled her to her core.

“There are no words to describe how devastated and heartbroken I am,” Estevez said through tears, before speaking directly to Aramazd. “To my son, this message is for you my love: Be brave, honey. Don’t ever forget that mama loves you to the moon and the stars. I am counting the days until I see you honey, and I will never stop looking for you.”

Estevez said she’s sure her son is still alive.

“To those who are concealing my son, I pray every day that God will touch your heart and guide you to do the right thing and return my son,” she said.

Authorities say Aramazd was last seen on April 20, when he and his father visited Disneyland in Anaheim, California. They left the theme park around midnight.

Within a week of the boy’s disappearance, police arrested his dad, 35-year-old Aramazd Andressian Sr., on suspicion of one count of child endangerment and one count of child abduction. But they released him days later, citing “insufficient evidence.”

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

Aramazd was supposed to be dropped off by his father in San Marino, California, on April 22, but the elder Andressian failed to show. Instead, police found him passed out near his car in a nearby park.

Official confirm that he and Estevez are embroiled in a bitter divorce, but they shared custody of their son.

Aramazd is approximately 3-feet-5-inches tall and weighs 55 lbs, according to police. He was last seen wearing a turquoise shirt and plaid shorts or a gray-and-white-striped shirt with gray sweatpants. He has a mole on the bottom of his right shoulder.

Police: Missing Boy’s Father Gave ‘Misleading’ Statements

This week, authorities released new details about Aramazd’s dad, telling reporters on Wednesday that Andressian had allegedly admitted to taking over-the-counter drugs that had not been prescribed to him.

Additionally, detectives alleged that the inside of his car was doused with gasoline and there were matches in his vehicle.

Police are not saying whether they believe Andressian may have been acting suicidal on April 21 — the day before his son was to be dropped off — but they said there is no evidence to suggest he was about to set the vehicle on fire.

According to investigators, Andressian’s statements to them had been “inconsistent” and “misleading,” and police suspect he may know more about his son’s whereabouts than he’s willing to share.

Andressian’s attorney did not immediately return a message Thursday about this new information. But Andressian previously explained himself in a statement provided to PEOPLE last month.

“The last time I saw my son was on , at Arroyo Park near my home in South Pasadena,” he said. “After breakfast, Aramazd Jr. wanted to go to the park before we were to meet his mother for a custody exchange at 9:00 a.m.”

“In one moment, I was at the park with my son, and then I found myself waking up in Huntington Memorial Hospital hours later,” he continued. “I was told that a good Samaritan found me unconscious on the ground near my car, with young Aramazd nowhere in sight. I can only speculate that I must have been attacked in the park, given my unresponsive state and subsequent physical condition.”

Andressian’s statement concluded: “My family and I are heartbroken and grief-stricken that Aramazd Jr. is missing and may be in harm’s way. I am pleading with the public to come forward with any knowledge of Aramazd Jr.’s whereabouts or information regarding the circumstances leading up to his disappearance.”

Anyone with tips on the ongoing case can call the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department at 323-890-5500 or police in South Pasadena, California, at 626-403-7297.

A $ 20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the boy’s safe return.

Playing “Never Have I Ever” is all fun and games until you decide to play it with your parents. Then, it’s bound to get a little awkward.

Let’s just say they learn a lot about each other by the end of the game.

“Everybody has!” the moms says.

Raising Brave Daughters

It seemed like a small miracle that my third grade daughter’s dance routine was the second act in the two-hour lineup of her school talent show. I let out a sigh of relief when I saw her name so close to the beginning, knowing that we were off the hook if (when?) our 3-year-old was unable to make it to the end of the show.

As I scanned the program, I saw that the final number was called “Brave,” and it featured nine 4th grade girls. I had a feeling it would be worthwhile for us to make it to the end of the talent show — for whatever reason, I just sensed it would be special.

Fortunately, with the assistance of an iPad on mute, several trips to the drinking fountain and a few seating adjustments, our preschooler made it through the entire show. We had moved to the very back of the auditorium to minimize any disruptions to those around us, and it was time for the final song. A line of girls wearing white T-shirts and holding large white poster board signs filed onto the stage, and the opening strains of Sara Bareilles’ “Brave” filled the room.

The first student held up her sign:

“You are amazing.”

Another sign came up:

“Stronger than you know.” I felt my eyes burning with tears.

And a third:

“More beautiful than you think.”

“Learning. Growing. Not Alone.” By now, tears were spilling down my face.

“Flawed. Whole. Scared. Brave.”

As the messages kept coming, the audience cheered on the girls, and Sara Bareilles’ beautiful words poured from the speakers. It was overwhelming, moving and powerful.

brave1

The very first girl to hold up her sign accidentally had it upside down. When she realized it and turned it around, everyone cheered her on. She got back up and kept going; it actually seemed to fit in perfectly with the message of their performance. At the end of the song, the girls donned hats and boas, picked up toy guitars and microphones, danced and did their thing. They showed all of us what it means to truly be yourself — flaws, silliness and all. I cheered and applauded with a lump in my throat, and I as returned to my seat, I saw that my friend had also been crying during the performance. Here we were, two 36-year-old women weeping at an elementary school talent show. And I suspected we weren’t the only ones.

Why was this message so powerful that it brought me to tears? As the mother of two little girls, the words of this song and the words on the girls’ signs encapsulate exactly what I hope my children are able to internalize as they navigate the world around them. I want them to believe in themselves. I want them to feel strong and proud. I want them to understand that it doesn’t matter if they look like the girls in the magazines or on TV — that they are more beautiful than they think.

The words on the signs came from an incredibly powerful poem called “You. Are. Amazing.” by Tia Sparkles Singh of Your Life, Your Way.

As we send our young daughters into the world, they are vulnerable and highly susceptible to insidious messages about what it means to be a girl in this world. You should be pretty. You should dress like all the other girls. You should be skinny. You should do whatever it takes to fit in. You should be like everybody else. When I was 10 years old, I certainly didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin, strong or brave.

Historically, girls have been socialized to be attractive, polite and good. But today’s girls are finally being given permission to transcend those roles. Of course we want them to be kind and considerate to others and to take pride in their appearance. But we also want them to be strong, to believe in themselves, to let their own unique light shine. To be brave.

When I asked how the girls got the idea for this performance, I discovered that it had actually been a few of their moms’ idea. I thought that was fantastic — it’s equally inspiring that these girls have mothers who are aware of the importance of this positive message. If we want our girls to embrace confidence, courage and self-acceptance, it’s going to have to start with us. As mothers, fathers and mentors, we have to teach our girls these values — they’re not likely to stumble on them on their own while being bombarded by other less-constructive messages from the world around them.

But the girls had their own ideas about the powerful message they had to share. Here’s what they had to say:

“It can inspire people to encourage others.”

“Spreading this message can make people more confident about themselves.”

“Help stop bullying.”

“Be yourself, not someone else.”

“I want to be liked for who I am.”

“We all have our own personalities.”

“Don’t be afraid to be yourself.”

“This message can change people’s lives and the whole world.”

This transitional age — from the tween years to the teen years — is absolutely transformative, and it is a crucial time to instill feelings of empowerment, security and a strong sense of self in our girls. What if we could really help them to believe and internalize these messages and to get that message to spread to other girls in the school, in the city and beyond? What would it take for parents, daughters and community members to join together to change the way we think about girls and women in the world? I don’t think there is any better gift we can give our daughters than to help them discover that they are powerful, valuable, and brave.

brave2

These girls threw a pebble, and it made ripples. They stood on stage in front of their entire school and shared who they are — quirky, kind, strong, beautiful, and confident. They were, in a word — brave.

You can watch their fantastic performance here:

A destitute and uneducated young man living on the streets is knocked down by a car. The driver, Joseph, a wealthy and influential businessman, takes the young man into his home to better care for him. Thus begins Archie’s journey of self-discovery. Joseph employs a nurse, Nathan, to provide the care and a teacher, Anthony, to help the young man to learn how to read and write. Joseph’s personal assistant, Jacob, completes the principal cast of this story. Archie and Nathan fall in love. For Archie, love is a both a word and a feeling which he has never known before. However, what appears to be charity and compassion on the part of Joseph begins to take on an altogether different complexion and suddenly Archie and Nathan are in danger. Jacob tips them off to the threat and helps them to escape from Joseph’s house. Seeking refuge in the Comanche grasslands, Archie and Nathan meet Gus, an old Comanche warrior, who gives them sanctuary. Learning to ride and exploring the landscape of love is all-consuming, except for the nagging, burning question which was never answered; why had they needed to flee from Joseph and Anthony?A puzzle, given to Archie by Jacob, once solved, leads them to a hoped for rendezvous with Jacob where the threat becomes both real and deadly. Joseph’s true motives for helping Archie are eventually revealed and all are thrown into mortal danger.’Brave’ is a metaphysical journey which borrows from the Comanche creation myth. The title ‘Brave’ was chosen to convey both the bravery of the main characters as they triumph over their respective demons and the bravery of the Comanche from whom I have drawn much inspiration, both for this and other stories.’Brave’ combines the three stories, ‘Broken’, ‘Mended’ and ‘Demon Rider’. ‘Broken’ previously appeared in ‘A Liberty Treasury Trio of Gay Romances’. ‘Mended’ and ‘Demon Rider’ were previously published as stand-alone titles.

Nicholas Hoult Is Down To Brave The Wilderness With Bear Grylls

If you were looking to swoon over the loveable Nicholas Hoult in “Young Ones,” you might find yourself a little disappointed. In the film, from director Jake Paltrow, it’s actually quite difficult to like Hoult’s character, Flem Lever. He’s a ruthless man who manipulates those closest to him — including characters played by Elle Fanning and Kodi-Smit McPhee — in order to survive in an otherwise hopeless, post-apocalyptic world where water is the most precious commodity.

“It was 115 degrees, just baking hot, people passing out from heat exhaustion. There wasn’t a whole lot of having to act that side of the story,” Hoult told HuffPost Entertainment of the film’s shoot, which took place in Springbok, South Africa, over a five-week period.

The brutal conditions on the film might help explain why, when we asked if he had to choose one person to survive in a post-apocalyptic setting with, Hoult had a strategy all planned out.

“I’d pick Bear Grylls. I like watching those shows, and I do watch them with the idea of like, ‘If this happens I have to remember this stuff if I’m stranded,'” Hoult said. “Watching Bear Grylls climb inside a camel carcass in the desert to survive, I’m like, ‘All right, if I’m ever stuck in the desert…'”

But his list of three essential items he’d bring is a little less practical.

“I’d need some sort of music player. I love anything from hip hop to old soul … kind of an eclectic mix. I’d bring a book, too … I’m currently reading J.D. Salinger’s ‘Nine Stories.’ And a toothbrush,” he said. “I’d definitely bring a toothbrush.”

“Young Ones” is out in limited release on Oct. 17.
