Newborn Prince Louis Lands on Britain’s Sunday Front Pages

NEVER TOO YOUNG: Newborn Prince Louis made the front page of Sunday newspapers including The Telegraph and The Times of London in a photo shot by his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, at Kensington Palace.
Kensington Palace shared the first portraits of the little prince with his older sister Charlotte, who celebrated her third birthday on May 2. Prince Louis, who is fifth in line to the throne, was born on April 23 at St. Mary’s Hospital in London.
An avid photographer, the duchess also shot the first portraits of Prince George and Princess Charlotte as well as the siblings’ first day at nursery school.
Kensington Palace tweeted: “Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank members of the public for all of the kind messages they have received following the birth of Prince Louis, and for Princess Charlotte’s third birthday.”
One image was taken on April 26, just days after little Louis was born. He was pictured resting on a white pillow.

Britain’s Fast-Fashion Retailers Head in Gender-Neutral Direction

BLURRING THE LINES: British brands and retailers are showing support for their customers beyond the traditional categories seen in retail. They are trying to promote inclusivity and avoid reinforcing gender stereotypes.
Topshop and Topman, which are housed under one roof at the Oxford Circus flagship, have made their fitting rooms gender-neutral. The high street retailer said its changing room policy is a reflection of the company’s commitment to inclusivity. A company spokeswoman said: “All Topshop and Topman customers are free to use any of the fitting rooms located within our stores.”
Meanwhile, Asos has teamed with GLAAD — an LGBTQIA organization — on a unisex collection. The eight-piece range consists of T-shirts, hoodies, totes and jewelry done in a rainbow motif and is available for purchase on Asos.com. Prices range from 8 pounds for a ring to 30 pounds for a hoodie, with part of the proceeds from each sale benefiting the LGBTQIA rights organization’s Together campaign. The high street e-tailer has also tapped the actor Tommy Dorfman from “13 Reasons Why,” the Netflix series about teenage suicide; Adam Eli, and Richie Shazam to star in the campaign.
Elsewhere, department stores have embraced the gender-neutral path and extended their unisex offerings. Last month, John Lewis said

Stella McCartney, Adidas Reveal Uniforms for Britain’s Olympic Athletes

LONDON — “Go ahead, get your six-pack out,” said Stella McCartney to Tom Daley, the English diver who’ll be taking part in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in August, as she unveiled the official sports kit she created for the British team.
McCartney had Daley — and other athletes — modeling her latest creations for Adidas, including clothing for the sports arena, the winners’ podium, and the Olympic village.
This is the second time that McCartney has worked with Adidas on the Olympians’ uniforms, and this year there are some major changes, including a new coat of arms meant to reflect the athletes’ British heritage and teamwork, and new technical fabrics that are 10 percent lighter for speedier performances.
McCartney and members of the British Olympic and Paralympic teams gathered Wednesday at Seymour Leisure Centre, a sleek Thirties building with art deco features, to show off the new collection.
McCartney said the range of Adidas fabrics and materials was narrower than she’s used to working with, but she likes operating outside her comfort zone and put a fashion spin on everything from tracksuit bottoms and jackets to men’s racer swimsuits.
“There are perforated nylon jackets, and lots of Neoprene and stretch — which I usually don’t

Britain’s Royal Mint Produces Prince George Coin

CAMBRIDGE CURRENCY: In honor of Prince George of Cambridge’s second birthday, Britain’s Royal Mint has created a special-edition, silver, five pounds coin. A modern take on the legend of Saint George and the Dragon, designed by Christopher Le Brun, is etched on one side while the other is adorned with a portrait of the toddler’s great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, created by Jody Clark. Only 7,500 limited-edition coins will be produced.
“The choice of the Saint George design to honor Prince George’s birthday is an apt one,” said Shane Bissett, director of commemorative coin and bullion at The Royal Mint. “The name George has long had links with the British monarchy and its coinage, there having been six kings of that name during The Royal Mint’s 1,000-year history. The choice of a silver 5 pounds coin is significant, too, as the tradition of crossing the palm of a newborn baby with silver is a way to wish them wealth and good health throughout their life.”
Two years ago, the Royal Mint created a limited-edition silver coin commemorating the birth of Prince George, which sold out within days. Priced at 80 pounds, or $ 124, the 5 pounds coin is available for purchase on royalmint.com.

Pocket Guide to Britains Farm Model Balers & Combines 1967-2007

Pocket Guide to Britains Farm Model Balers & Combines 1967-2007

Collecting farm models is a popular hobby worldwide. Britains has been a leading manufacturer of these models for over eighty years, producing many initiative standard setting models. The company launched its first model baler in the late 1960s and its first combine ten years later, receiving the UK Toy of the Year Award in 1978 for the latter. Since launching these models, Britains has produced over 60 baler and combine models or variations from leading farm machinery manufacturers such as Bamfords, Case IH, Farmhand, John Deere, Krone, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, Vermeer and Vicon. David Pullen has collected many of these models and researched their development. The book includes a long section describing how the range developed, plus details of prototypes and some of the manufacturing background. Also, to allow the reader to identify different model variations, catalogues are included in which individual models are examined giving for each colour photographs, their main features and issue packaging.
