Sally Field Was ‘Flattered’ Burt Reynolds Called Her the ‘Love of My Life’: He Was ‘Complicated’

Sally Field is opening up about her turbulent relationship with film icon Burt Reynolds leading up to the release of her memoir.

A part of Field’s sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer aired on Monday’s Good Morning America in which the actress revealed what her time with Reynolds — who died earlier this month at the age of 82 — was like.

“We had known each other about three days, four days at that point . It was instantaneous, and four days felt like four years,” Field said.

“You can see it in our faces. We were sort of, you know, deeply entangled,” she told Sawyer. “That nature of it wasn’t just, ‘Oh, this is a love affair.’ There was some ingredient between us having to do with my caretaking and him needing to be taken care of.”

Reynolds and Field were together from 1977 until their breakup nearly five years later.

The actor told Vanity Fair in November 2015 that he never got over Field, calling her the “love of my life.”

“I was always flattered when he said that,” Field told Sawyer. “But he was a complicated man.”

Field is promoting her new memoir In Pieces in which she touches on the relationship she had with Reynolds.

The actress told The New York Times in an interview published last week that she was “glad” Reynolds wouldn’t be able to read her book.

This would hurt him,” Field said. “I felt glad that he wasn’t going to read it, he wasn’t going to be asked about it, and he wasn’t going to have to defend himself or lash out, which he probably would have.”

“I did not want to hurt him any further,” she added.

On writing the book, which includes memories of their time together, the actress said she was “flooded with feelings and nostalgia” about him.

When asked about her relationship with Reynolds, Field described it to the NYT as “confusing and complicated, and not without loving and caring, but really complicated and hurtful to me.”

In Pieces is out on Sept. 18.

Burt Reynolds Was Embarrassed by His Infamous Nude Cosmopolitan Shoot: ‘What an Egomaniac’

In 1972, Burt Reynolds, who died on Sept. 6 at age 82, agreed to pose completely naked for Helen Gurley Brown’s Cosmopolitan magazine — a move that he has said wasn’t a big deal, despite it turning him into a massive sex symbol.

“I didn’t know there was going to be a commotion about it,” he told Steve Harvey in March, 2018. “It wasn’t a big deal to me. I said, “I’ll do it, but I’ll have to have my hands…in front of me.”

Reynolds, then making a joke about the size of his manhood, added, “And I have very small hands.”

During the same month, Reynolds, who later battled an addiction to painkillers in 2009, told Conan O’Brien that he was really drunk for the shoot.

“I was so drunk,” he said. “Oh I was plastered. I started drinking very early in the morning, and I went out and they said, ‘In the first scene you’ll  be doing such and such.’ I said, ‘You said I’d just be lying on the couch…I’m not taking my clothes off. I’ll come in, throw the robe off, and you roll.’ And he did.”

He also revealed in 2017 during an appearance on Yahoo!’s The Katie Couric Interview that he “shuddered” when he looked back on the infamous shoot.

“I mean what an a–,” he continued. “What an egomaniac that would do something like that.”

When Couric pressed Reynolds to explain why he regretted the shoot so much, he added, “I didn’t have to do that. But people thought you had to do it because it, you know, caused a little fuss and all that and I enjoyed that, but I didn’t enjoy doing it.”

In his 1994 memoir, My Life, Reynolds said that it was strange how women reacted to him after the centerfold was published.

“Standing ovations turned into burlesque show hoots and catcalls,” he wrote. “They cared more about my pubes than they did the play.”

Willis & Geiger’s Burt Avedon Dead at 94

Services have been held for Burt Simms Avedon, 94, a lifelong military leader and the former owner of Willis & Geiger, who died from complications of Parkinson’s disease on May 1 at Agrace Hospice Care in his hometown of Madison, Wis.
Born in New York on April 15, 1924, Avedon was sent to Missouri Military Academy at age 12 where he learned to fly and accumulated more than 600 hours of flight time. After graduating, he flew to Rangoon, Burma, in November 1941 to join Claire Chennault’s American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers). That group was put on hold a month later when war was declared after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, so Avedon returned to the U.S. and attended the University of California at Los Angeles, joined the university’s Naval Reserve Officers Training program, and played football and baseball. He was the quarterback for the Bruins and played in the 1941 Rose Bowl.
In 1944, he was commissioned as an ensign for the Navy and flew with the Flight Group VF-6 in the South Pacific until 1946 when he returned to UCLA to complete his studies, graduating in 1948. He received a master of business administration degree from Harvard Business School in

Burt Waikiki Brings Hawaii Lifestyle To South Africa… Kind Of

What do you get when you combine viral online marketing with Hawaii’s laid back lifestyle? Apparently, Burt Waikiki.

Burt is a long-haired, speedo-clad, womanizing personal trainer from the Hawaii island of Kauai whose mission is to share his secret to balancing mind, body and soul by flirting with women and lifting weights made of coconuts. Oh, and apparently he saves puppies, which makes sense because why not?

Also known as “The Guru of Goodness,” Burt is the star of a new viral marketing campaign launched by digital agency McCann and Kauai restaurants — a chain of Hawaii-inspired health food restaurants in South Africa.

The campaign’s purpose is to introduce the world to the “Kauai lifestyle.” This includes “healthy eating, being active and having time to chill,” according to Kauai’s marketing manager Leanne Jefferies.

“Even though the islands are far away, there is no excuse for us not to live by these principals in South Africa,” Jefferies told AdLip.com. “Our brand heritage is fun, informal and laid back. So we wanted to do a fun campaign.”

While the campaign’s efforts aim at promoting the island lifestyle, it’s clear that the videos are mostly for comedy rather than accuracy. Kauai’s residents do have a very strong voice when it comes to community health and the Aloha State actually does embrace yoga, but not everyone has a parachute to casually land on the beach or a “palace” on the sand with fake flower leis strewn about.

We’re also pretty sure that “scubaerobics” isn’t really a thing.

The original concept for Kauai restaurants began 17 years ago when the founders, originally from California, experienced life on the island of Kauai. Or, as they put it, “discovered the succulent fruits of this veritable Garden of Eden.”

What still remains unclear, however, is why the laid back, zen-seeking guru, Burt Waikiki, is named after one of Hawaii’s busiest and crowded cities, which isn’t even on the island of Kauai.
