Kim Kardashian Transforms Into Princess Jasmine in New Tutorial – and North West Isn’t Buying It!

Over the years, Kim Kardashian West has channeled many of her female icons — this year alone, the star dressed up as Cher, Madonna and Selena. And while her Cher hair stuck around for some time, there’s one other notable woman she’s dressed as on more than one occasion: Princess Jasmine (her go-to Halloween costume).  And now, she’s recreating that look, makeup and all, thanks to the skills of YouTube makeup guru Kandee Johnson.

In a new video with Johnson, Kardashian West morphs into the Disney character — complete with a long black wig, upward turning eyebrows and her signature tiara.

To create the look, Johnson first perfects Kardashian West’s skin with foundation, before applying gray eye shadow. Then, she “removes” the star’s eye brows, using Elmer’s glue to paste them down and Nars concealer to hide them. Next, she draws them back on with dark brow gel in order to create a bold shape like Jasmine’s, followed by a cat eye and, of course, the wig.

And Kim was so excited about her look that she FaceTimed with her 4-year-old daughter North West in the video, trying to convince her that she’s the Disney character. But North doesn’t fall for it, and instead responds, “You’re really Kim,” adding,  “you don’t look like Jasmine!”

And while she had the look down, there’s no hiding her signature Kim Kardashian voice.

Men More Comfortable With Buying Grooming Products

Things have changed since Men’s Health released its first grooming awards list 14 years ago.
According to a questionnaire posted on its web site, men are much more open to buying grooming products on their own — as opposed to relying on a spouse or girlfriend — and open to more variety.
Most of the respondents — 78 percent — named print as their number-one source to learn about fragrances and 73 percent of respondents had shopped for fragrances in the past year for themselves, which signals a shift in men taking more ownership over their grooming decisions. Where are they purchasing these fragrances? Mostly in department stores.
In terms of face wash and cleanser, 64 percent of respondents use it at least once a week, and 58 percent of respondents use facial moisturizer at least once a week. Antiaging skin-care products are becoming a key category with 35 percent of respondents using antiaging skin-care products at least once a week.
James Marsden is on the cover of the June issue, but to accompany the list, Men’s Health tapped Broadway actress Katharine McPhee to detail what she likes to see on a man’s face.
Winners included Fatboy Hair Sea Salt Pomade, which was number one for

Net-a-porter Amps Up Its Accessories Buying Team

BEEFING UP: Net-a-porter is making strategic personnel appointments in an effort to reinforce its accessories business.
The e-commerce site has named Nayla Touma as its buying director for shoes, handbags and accessories. Touma joins Net-a-porter from Bergdorf Goodman, where she worked as division merchandise manager for footwear.
She will report to Elizabeth von der Goltz, Net-a-porter’s global buying director — also a Bergdorf Goodman alum.
Touma is to begin her new role at the end of February, with plans to relocate to London in April. Prior to Bergdorf Goodman, Touma held various positions with Bloomingdale’s.
Her hire is just part of an effort by Net-a-porter to bulk up its accessories buying operation. The site has promoted Billie Faricy-Hyett to the role of buying manager for handbags, accessories and beauty. She previously served as senior buyer for handbags, accessories, fashion and demi-fine jewelry. Additionally, Thalia Tserevegou has been elevated to the role of buying manager for shoes from her previous role as senior buyer for shoes.
Von der Goltz said of these changes in a statement: “Reinforcing our core team is essential to us shaping and developing these growing areas of our business while adopting a progressively tactical approach to the integral categories of shoes, handbags

Kami Phillips, E-Commerce Editor: These mules are everything for fall. I’m absolutely obsessed with the gorgeous burgundy hue, luxe velvet and floral embroidery – three of the prettiest trends of the season. I’m stealing a styling trick from supermodel Gigi Hadid and rocking them with my favorite pair of cropped vintage denim and a cozy, matching turtleneck.

Buy It! Sam Edelman Aven Mules, $ 96 (orig. $ 120); shopbop.com

Sarah Ball, Fashion Market Editor: I’ve been looking for the perfect everyday fall bag, but one that’s not too boring. This mini camera cross body is perfect! The brown and black color combo make it extremely versatile (I’m not one to be weird about mixing brown and black) and the pony hair and print make it standout, so it feels special.

Buy It! Derek Lam 10 Crosby Mini Spring Camera Bag, $ $ 396 (orig. $ 495); shopbop.com

Colleen Kratofil, Style Writer-Reporter: Every fall I restock my closet with a new pair of black booties. I chose the same heel height from the same brand in the same plain shade but this year, I finally decided to change it up. I didn’t think I needed a pair of embroidered booties, but this ornate jacquard design by Sam Edelman is just as versatile as a standard black boot, they just look lightyears cooler.

Buy It! Sam Edelman “Taye” boots, $ 160; shopbop.com

Kaitlyn Frey, Style & Beauty Assistant: I’ve been dying to get my hands on a pair of over-the-knee boots for over a year now, but have held back on making the splurge since most styles I loved tend to be on the pricey side. But now with Shopbop’s sale I’m finally pulling the trigger and investing in this Sigerson Morrison pair.
Buy It! Sigerson Morrison Karissa Thigh High Boots, $ 521.25 (orig. $ 695); shopbop.com

Alex Apatoff, Deputy Style Director: I hate all my earrings. I need new ones. These ones are cute and in my budget.
Buy It! Cloverpost “Weld” earrings, $ 72.75 (orig. $ 97); shopbop.com

Andrea Lavinthal, Style & Beauty Director: For a person who covers trends for a living, I was embarrassingly late to the mules party. But I finally made it here and now I can’t get enough of backless slides — they just make every outfit look instantly cooler. I like the preppy vibe of this menswear-inspired loafer style, plus the navy hue feels so on-point for fall.

What We’re Buying: Brittany Gibbons Swears by Thinx

Brittany Gibbons, blogger at Brittany Herself: “I have recently discovered and fallen in love with these Thinx hip hugger period underwear. Not only because their plus friendly sizing goes up to size 3x, or because with every pair I buy, money is donated to female entrepreneurs in Africa, but also because I’m a woman with a busy career and small kids and a packed calendar, and — seriously — we do not talk about making our periods periods easier as much as we should. I have experimented with all sort of menstrual paraphernalia; these hip huggers don’t leak, and they’ve officially replaced my cups and tampons, making my life (especially those 3 to 4 days every month) so much more productive. Not to mention, they are really cute, and I’m not walking around in giant underwear and pads like some sort of social pariah. I feel like a girl, again.”

What We’re Buying: Carmen Electra’s Perfect-Skin Solution

Have you bought anything you loved lately? In the PeopleStyle offices, the answer to that question is usually “Yes.” We love to share our absolute can’t-miss picks in our gallery, What We’re Loving Right Now — as well as the go-to skincare of actress Carmen Electra (who just launched a new scent with FragranceNet).

Carmen Electra, actress, TV host and fragrance entrepreneur: A product I absolutely cannot be without is SkinCeuticals Skin Firming Cream. Growing up, I would spend long summer days in the sun trying to get as tan as possible, not realizing the long-term damage I could possibly be causing. About five years ago, a well-known dermatologist recommended the SkinCeuticals line to me after my first visit. I began using the firming cream religiously, and started to see major changes in my skin. It became much smoother, tighter, and moisturized. I tried many other products in the past, but they usually left my skin way too dry or too oily. I use it on my face every day before I apply makeup, and after I wash my face with SkinCeuticals Purifying Cleanser, which I’m also obsessed with. I highly recommend this cream if you are looking for something to enhance, hydrate, and improve the health and appearance of your skin!

Answers to Every Question You’ve Ever Had About Buying and Selling Fashion on eBay

When it comes to scoring amazing deals on designer pieces or tracking down something specific you love (like that pair of heels you loved two years ago, but never actually made the move to buy), there’s nothing better than eBay. Even so, the amount of shoppers who are skeptical, confused, or downright scared of it is way too high, a big bummer since the fashion is major on the site.

“It’s grown to a $ 15 billion-a-year business,” Marcelle Parrish, head of fashion at eBay Marketplaces, told us, with shoes and bags proving to be especially popular (a pair of shoes sells every two seconds and a purse every five; on mobile, the numbers are seven and 11 seconds, respectively.) Within the North American market, there’s an average of 34 million listings per week across all fashion categories; the most popular women’s brands are Coach, Diane von Furstenberg, Missoni, and Valentino.

laptop-cup-of-coffee

For newbies nervous about winding up with a counterfeit, hear this: You have no reason to freak out. “Nothing is more important than the trust of our customers. When you buy or sell, we have your back,” eBay’s vice president of Global Trust, Laura Chambers, said. The site’s Money Back Guarantee is a well-seasoned system where shoppers register a complaint and eBay assists in a negotiation of sorts. The majority of sellers will do a return and refund, even if the option was marked as not available on the original listing, and if things get cantankerous, eBay steps in. Bottom line: You’ll never be stuck with the world’s worst fake and be out a few hundred bucks.

Tips and Tricks for Buying on eBay

1. Search Smartly
Start with the obvious keywords, and take advantage of filters available on the left-hand side of the page to wade through a large amount of matching listings. Griff Griffith, part of the community and education team at eBay, suggested further customizing the results you see by re-sorting by price once you have the general search right.

2. Pay Attention to the Little Clues
As diligent as the site tries to be, there are fakes posted. The easiest way to avoid buying something fake is to pay attention to any red flags. Is the price way too good to be true? Are pictures scant or badly out-of-focus? Is something just a little off, whether hardware wrapped in plastic or a logo that just doesn’t seem right? If you feel iffy about it, listen to your gut. Also to check: For shoes, is there a full range of sizes listed? If a seller in China has every single size of Isabel Marant ankle boots available, something’s fishy.

3. Check Out the Seller
EBay’s format includes feedback that gives you a snapshot of who you’re buying from. A brand-new account with no reviews or previous sales but a crazy cache of Chanel bags listed? It could be legit…or not. Click through to see the other items a seller has for sale for a good feel if you’re browsing the wares of a thirtysomething fashion fiend who’s cleaning out her closet or someone with a single fashion item that looks glaringly out of place alongside nonrelated items like tech gadgets or game consoles.

4. Do Your Homework
Before shopping a designer bag, some due diligence is in order. Know different brands’ hallmarks of authenticity (we covered Chanel, Balenciaga, Celine, and more); eBay has a robust section dedicated to educating shoppers too.

5. Now, Actually Start Bidding
Decide your top price before things get going to avoid being swept up in the excitement. You can enter your max bid off the bat, and eBay will automatically increase your offer as other shoppers join in. If you’re more into watching the shopping action as it unfolds, download the app and get your clicking finger ready (a lot of bids come in during the last five or 10 minutes of an auction). If you win, pay promptly.

Tips and Tricks for Selling on eBay

1.Write a Lengthy Description and Use Lots of Details
Imagine what you’d want as a shopper and give your prospective buyers that. The more information the better, as it’ll instill confidence in you and answer any questions they might think of. EBay has fields for all sort of characteristics, including specific measurements and materials; take advantage of those areas and answer.

2. Your Item Title Should Be Keyword-Rich
Shoppers are typically super specific, so beefing up your headline will help to get more potential buyers. Use the brand name (and make sure it’s spelled correctly), but also include the size, material, color, and a style name if relevant.

3. Take Good Pictures (and Lots of Them)
Pictures can make a huge difference whether your item sells, so add as many as you can to your listing. Take the general shot, but also zoom in on hardware, embellishments, and any tears, scratches, or discolored areas. Consider angles that will also reveal something additional about whatever you’re selling, whether it’s hanging it from a doorknob or adding a common item in for size relevance (think a dollar bill, a water bottle, etc).

4. Start Your Listing on These Days
Per eBay, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are the best days to post items. (We’ve already heard that Tuesday is also the best day to shop online).

5. Be Realistic About Pricing
Setting your item at a too-high price is a sure way to never sell it. Consider how much you paid for it and what similar items are being sold for. Certain designer items will hold their value really well (a lot of designer handbags, jewelry), while other pieces decrease drastically as soon as you remove the tags.

6. Consider Offering Free Shipping
Plenty of serious sellers we’ve chatted with have encouraged offering the incentive. “Shipping items fast and free is one of the keys to being a successful seller on eBay,” Linda Lightman, CEO of top eBay shop Linda’s Stuff offered as a suggestion. When you purchase and print potage through eBay’s portal, you’ll also save on the prices the local post office would charge you (you can simply tape the label to your package).

How to Not Totally Screw Up Buying Sunglasses Online

Shopping online is awesome, yeah? The days before we could fill up a virtual shopping cart and click “buy” while still curled up cozy in bed sound like dark days indeed. Still, sunglasses are the exception to the rule—a pair can look so cute on a model, but arrive on your doorstep a few days later and somehow not work, at all, when you try them on. So how is a shopper supposed to successfully buy sunglasses online? “The best rule of thumb is that opposites attract. Find frames that contrast with the shape of your face, and keep everything proportional,” Jenna McGill, The Vision Council’s marketing and communications fashion manager, told us.

celine-sunglasses-street-style

Figuring Out Your Face Shape

“The first thing you want to do is to figure out your face shape,” McGill explained, suggesting Eyecessorize’s guide if you’re not quite sure what shape you are. “Take a picture of yourself facing the camera head-on with your hair pulled back. On the photo, create dots at the brow line, cheekbones, and jaw line and compare those dots to the descriptions below.” If you’re not Photoshop savvy or don’t have a way of printing out your picture, work with your reflection. “The same process can be done by tracing your face with lipstick on a mirror.” After you’ve figured out your shape, check out the specific suggestions McGill gave us.

General Rules for a Flattering Fit

Avoiding a problem might be as simple as grabbing a measuring tape. “You want the frames to span the complete width of your face, and you don’t want to be able to see the sides of your head through the lenses,” she said. Plenty of online shops offer specific measurements with product descriptions (often listed as ‘frame width’ or ‘temple length’). Check them out and then measure your face, comparing the two numbers to get a general feel for whether the style would work on you.

How to Tell What Shape Your Face Is (and Frame Suggestions!)

You have an oval face if…: The dots that mark your cheeks are the pair that’s furthest apart; the brow and jaw lines curve slightly inward. There aren’t many frames that don’t work with this shape, so experiment with classic and trendy picks.
You have a round face if…: Like oval, your cheekbones have the most space between them; the brow and jaw lines both have a stronger curve. Rectangular and square frames are likely going to be the most flattering.
You have a square face if…: Symmetry rules and all dots are equally as far apart from each other. Try rounded or cat-eye styles.
You have a heart-shaped face if…: The dots on your brow area are the furthest apart, while the jaw line dots are the closest. The shade shapes most likely to work for you are aviators and other rimless styles.
You have an oblong face if…: Your face is long, with the most space between the dots at the brow and jaw lines. Oversized styles are likely going to be the most flattering on you.

Shape Hacks

To shorten a face: McGill suggested picking glasses with deep, narrow frames with legs that connect closer to the middle of the body (typically the pieces are joined at the upper corner).
To widen a face: Try styles with decorative, embellished temples.
To avoid overwhelming a small face: When looking at given measurements, note the ones with the shortest distance between side hinges. These will likely be your most flattering.
To lengthen a face: Rimless or wide styles can help elongate, as do styles with a high nose bridge.
To minimize a larger forehead: If you’re self-conscious about your forehead, look for glasses where the legs connect at the middle or bottom of the frame, rather than the top corner.
To make close-set eyes appear wider: Narrow frames will help center your eyes, McGill said; or, “try a clear bridge with colored temples.”
To flatter a larger nose: Shop for oversized frames with a low bridge. Per McGill, the build will focus attention on the glasses, rather than your features.
To accentuate cheekbones: “Try printed or intricate temples to draw attention to the side of the face.”

The Shame-Free Guide To Buying A Sex Toy

In the post-sexual revolution world, you’d think a group of young, sexually active women wouldn’t start fidgeting in their seats at the mention of using sex toys. Didn’t cultural phenomena like “Sex and the City” and 50 Shades of Grey shed the awkwardness and prepare us for this?

It appears not: The general reaction I got when I brought up the topic to various friends — both single and in relationships — was giggling and blushing … but also curiosity.* Sure, plenty of women have already tried sex toys — 44 percent of women between the ages of 18 and 60, to be precise — but what about the silent, intrigued majority who don’t know where to start?

Before I knew it, I found myself in a bright pink sex shop surrounded by vibrators, cock rings and all sorts of sexual contraptions I’d never want my mother to know I’ve seen, all in the name of research. But it wasn’t some daunting, x-rated experience –it was actually pretty fun and damn educational.

The first rule of shopping for a sex toy is to loosen up and enjoy the ride.

“The analogy I use is dessert,” Dr. Ava Cadell, certified sex counselor and author of NeuroLoveology, told me. “When you go out to a restaurant, dessert is not necessary, but it sure is yummy when you have it. That’s how I think of sex toys. They’re just yummy enhancements.”

Cadell told me that there’s six types of sex toys — vibrators, dildos, nipple toys, sexercises, penis rings and masturbation toys — so the second step is deciding what you’re looking for. In my quest to help curious females everywhere, I stopped by Babeland in New York City to see what’s out there. If tawdry, in-your-face fetish stores scare you off, rest easy that there are plenty of sex toy shops that feel more like high-end fashion boutiques.

Babeland in Brooklyn, New York

“You would be amazed at the different kinds of vibrators there are now,” Psychologist Carol Rinkleib Ellison, Ph.D., author of Women’s Sexualities. Generations of Women Share Intimate Secrets of Sexual Self-Acceptance told me. “It’s like the vibrator is an art form.”

And she’s not kidding. While at Babeland, I saw everything from sleek, colorful vibrators in reimagined phallic shapes to vibrators disguised as makeup to state of the art vibrating eggs — the Revel Body actually uses the same sonic-wave motors as Sonicare toothbrushes.

Most Babeland customers are looking for something to share with their partner, Claire Cavanah, Babeland co-founder and co-author of Moregasm: Babeland’s Guide to Mind-Blowing Sex, told me. The best-selling vibrator for her is “hands down” the We-Vibe 4, a two-pronged vibrating sex toy that’s supposed to help with simultaneous orgasms. There are even toys you can control with your smartphone, like the OhMiBod Blue Motion.

Obviously, there’s quite a bit to sift through, so here’s what you need to know:

If you’re curious about sex toys, you need to get over your insecurities and fears.

While plenty of Cadell’s clients come to her about sex toys, Ellison said that, in her 40 years as a sex therapist, she hasn’t seen too many people willing to broach the topic themselves. They both agreed on one thing, though: Each person’s insecurities and fears about sex toys are unique.

For some women, the idea that “it’s not natural” bogs them down when it comes to sex toys — only a living, breathing partner is supposed to make you orgasm. Others have told Cadell that they’re embarrassed or worried that a high-powered sex toy will make them desensitized to the human touch, rendering them only able to achieve orgasm with a sex toy. Men, on the other hand, tend to be threatened: Don’t I satisfy you? Am I not a good enough lover that we need something else?

“I always tell men, ‘No, no, no, don’t worry. A sex toy can’t cuddle; a sex toy can’t kiss; it can’t give you compliments,'” Cadell said. “But it can add orgasmic intensity for a woman by stimulating key erogenous zones that a man doesn’t always find or doesn’t always know exist, such as the U-spot, the G-spot, the A-spot,** the perineum — all of these areas that are highly sensitive for women.”

Cavanah said that vibrator beginners tend to get caught up in the mechanics of toys and whether they’ll get something wrong, so she recommended starting simple to assuage those fears. (Think: a small clitoral vibrator without any bells and whistles that can be easily stashed away.)

“The only way you know what you like is if you start and experiment,” Cavanah said.

Plus, Cadell said that simple sex toys, like blindfolds, can empower women and actually distract them from any hangups they may have with their bodies.

“It’s even better for the ladies to blindfold their men, because that gives women more confidence,” she said. “I’ve had so many clients that told me that once they blindfold their lover, they can do things and say things. They’re 10 times bolder than they’ve ever been. It liberates them.”

As for the ladies who are unsure if they want to look into sex toys for personal use?

“It’s better than going on a bad date. And it’s safer than a one-night stand,” Cadell said.

Once you’ve decided you’re willing to give sex toys a go, let your turn-ons guide you on where to start.

After helping countless Babeland shoppers over the store’s 21-year run, Cavanah suggested to think about what turns you on and go from there.

Want to test the waters? Start with massage candles. Into the 50 Shades craze? Try a blindfold (or a ben wa ball if you’re adventurous). But a lot of women want to go straight to vibrators — perhaps the infamous “rabbit” episode of “Sex and the City” piqued their interest? — so Cavanah recommended that they start with a non-phallic clitoral vibrator before moving on to internal vibes. (She said men tend to go for vibrating rings and masturbation sleeves, if you’re curious.)

sm

“At some point, most women discover that they are more likely to orgasm from clitoral stimulation than from vaginal, so products with vibration focused on that specific areas have become very popular,” Cavanah said.

Next, think about how strong you want your vibrations. Cavanah said that if it takes “a good while” for you to get off with your hand or you need a shower massager, go for more powerful vibrators. You should also look for quality construction and body-safe materials, like silicone.

“Then, throw any rational thinking aside and pick the one that tickles that sexy part of your imagination,” she said.

Going into the store, rather than shopping online, is the best way to go — but make sure you talk to your partner first.

Both Cadell and Ellison say store assistants can be invaluable in the quest for a sex toy, whether you’re alone or with a partner.

“It can be done online, but I think the personal going to a store can be an adventure and something outside what [couples] have usually done in their lives,” said Ellison.

If you do plan to use the toy with a partner, both Ellison and Cadell recommended broaching the topic with him or her before buying anything. In fact, shopping together makes for a great “date,” said Cadell.

To bring it up to a partner, she recommends being direct. You can say things like, “I feel like sex toys will add more variety to our sex life” or “I’d like to experiment with a vibrator or a dildo. What do you think?”

You can also just ask your partner to go to a store with you and see what’s out there for the fun of it. Couples often start out by experimenting with anything from vibrators to cock rings to basic S&M kits (yes, some are more “basic” than others).

“Buying something really innovative that opens up conversation is probably better than just buying a dildo, which can be intimidating for the man and for the woman,” Cadell said. “But common household items are a great prelude to sex toys.”

If you’re not ready to go to a store, Cadell recommended starting with a feather duster to caress your partner’s body (“Just make sure you didn’t actually dust the furniture with it!”) or a man’s tie to restrain your partner’s hands (“with permission, of course”). She also said you could use a piece of ice for “sensation play” or a spatula for spanking.

“Sometimes people explore with fruit and vegetables or whip cream,” Ellison added. “You know, get one of those spray containers of whip cream or chocolate sauce and lick it off.”

But whatever you decide to buy (if you plan to buy anything at all), take Ellison, Cadell and Cavanah’s biggest piece of advice about sex toys: have fun, relax and don’t judge yourself. It may be a bit awkward, but there’s absolutely no reason to be ashamed.

*I recognize that this isn’t the most representative sample, but I don’t purport to be a social scientist.

**Yes, the U-spot and the A-spot are actual things.
