Candice Swanepoel Signs With Creative Artists Agency

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: Candice Swanepoel has new representation.
The Victoria’s Secret model and founder of swimwear brand Tropic of C has signed on with Creative Artists Agency for representation in all areas.
Swanepoel will continue to be managed by Marlon Stoltzman. She’s been on Forbes’ “Highest-Paid Models” list every year since 2010, and although she’s best known for her work as an Angel, Swanepoel has appeared in campaigns and on runways for Chanel, Fendi, Tom Ford, Givenchy and many more.
Last year was a big one for the South African model. She became a mother of two, after giving birth to her second child in June; launched Tropic of C, and put her Village Green penthouse condominium up for sale in April — with a price tag of $ 1.89 million.
When speaking to WWD about her swimwear company in 2018, she explained that the throwback feel of Tropic of C makes her suits stand out.
“We bring a modern approach to vintage classics and a mix of European elegance with Brazilian ease,” Swanepoel said. “We focus on distinct fits — it features a high-cut leg, some corset-type tops and references to the Eighties and Nineties.”

Ashley Graham, Candice Huffine Reflect on Impacting More Than Just Sales With Lane Bryant Ads

NEW YORK — Being on the set of a national lingerie ad campaign with major models conjures a stereotype of thumping music, empty Champagne glasses and frazzled assistants scurrying to-and-fro, procuring their every demand.
But the vibe was far more girl power than fashion diva at Lane Bryant’s shoot for its fall lingerie campaign on Monday.
Reprising their roles in the latest ads were Ashley Graham of TED Talks, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and Candice Huffine, whose May cover of Elle and runway jaunt for Prabal Gurung have her on the radars of major casting directors. And while these women have been modeling for the plus-size retailer for well over a decade, it’s only been in the last few years that they’ve caught the attention of the overall fashion industry — not to mention the public, whose outcry for stylish clothes in a greater size range is finally being heard.

The Great Reason You Might Be Bored By Candice Huffine’s Elle Cover

Elle revealed six cover stars for its May swimsuit issue this week. They include Bella Hadid, Jasmine Tookes, Hailey Baldwin, Elsa Hosk, Maria Borges and Candice Huffine

Huffine’s appearance marked the model’s first American magazine cover, and the news garnered headlines like, “Model Candice Huffine Hopes Her New Elle Cover Shows Women ‘Their Size Is Not an Indication of What Is Possible’” and “Here’s Why Candice Huffine’s Elle Cover Is So Important.”

Huffine herself even told the glossy that she hopes her appearance can help all women “know that they can become anything that they want and they can have anything they want in this life,” adding, “and their size is not an indication of what is possible for them.”

To be honest, though, this isn’t the first time a plus-size model has graced a cover recently. And that’s a great thing. 

At this point, featuring a curvy model doesn’t seem all that revolutionary ― and that’s what’s most exciting about this cover. 

Huffine’s appearance signals yet another step forward in the move toward a more inclusive industry. And with an increasing number of brands and magazines following suit, we might dare to say that this is all just becoming … normal. And really, isn’t that the goal? Isn’t true inclusivity achieved when we don’t feel the need to keep talking about it all the time?  

If you’re not convinced, consider some of the other magazines that have featured curvy models on their covers in recent memory. There was the Ashley Graham Sports Illustrated cover seen around the world, which paved the way for her to appear on Cosmopolitan, Vogue U.K. and Vogue U.S.

Women’s Running featured plus-size models Erica Schenk, Nadia Aboulhosn and Huffine on its covers over the past two years. Iskra Lawrence starred on Self Magazine’s last-ever print issue. There’s still plenty of room to grow, but it certainly feels refreshingly more common. 

Add that to the fact that as Refinery29 pointed out, Huffine is the only cover star whose full body is showing and nowhere does it mention that she is “curvy” or “plus-size.”  

This is the best kind of boring we could ever imagine.
