Alessandra Facchinetti Dresses Don Carlo Cast for Swiss Performance

DIVA MOMENT: Alessandra Facchinetti has designed the costumes for Giuseppe Verdi’s Don Carlo opera, which will take place on Oct. 27 at the St. Gallen Theater in Switzerland.
Facchinetti is the former creative director of Tod’s women’s collections, a role she left in 2016 after joining the luxury brand three years earlier. Before that, Facchinetti, a former Gucci and Valentino head designer, had worked with Pinko to launch the Uniqueness brand in 2011.
Facchinetti designed approximately 90 costumes for the main roles, created in the atelier of the St. Gallen Theater. These are uniforms, tailcoats and capes designed for men and sumptuous dresses for women. The designer emphasized the selection of dark colors, ranging from plum to petrol green.

Conducting the orchestra is the Lithuanian Modestas Pitrenas, and the opera is directed by Nicola Berloffa.
Thanking Berloffa for the opportunity and his guidance, Facchinetti said she admired “his contemporary, but at the same time respectful, vision of the opera. We had a wonderful, professional exchange.”
The designer, whose father is musician Roby Facchinetti and whose brother is DJ and singer Francesco Facchinetti, expressed her passion for music, cinema and theater, and said she always believed she would have liked to try her hand in

Carlo Rivetti Talks Passion and Innovation at Stone Island

A passion for product is what drives Carlo Rivetti, creative director and chairman of Sportswear Co. SpA, which manufactures the Stone Island brand.
Calling himself the “ideologist” behind the label, Rivetti said Stone Island was born in 1982 with an obsession and passion for product and product innovation.
Stone Island uses plating, coating, garment dying, copper, stainless steel, Kevlar, and reflective and heat sensitive materials for its garments. The Italian-based company has an in-house garment dying lab, where it can obtain 11 different colors on a garment, playing with the fabric, acidity of water, temperature, pressure and print. They have more than 60,000 dyeing recipes.
“My passion has always been to break boundaries. We always follow our ideas, and I’m sure that, sooner or later, the wave of fashion will hit us, and actually that happened,” he said.
Rivetti believes there are two key factors for Stone Island, one being the lab factor and a passion for research and experimentation. The central part is the product that includes shirts, pants, fleecewear, sweaters, coats and jackets. The second is that Stone Island gives status to its wearers. “The consumers feel important and proud when wearing Stone Island,” he said.

Carlo Alberto Beretta Said Exiting Kering

Carlo Alberto Beretta, chief client and marketing officer at Kering, is leaving the French group, WWD has learned.
It is understood Beretta is exiting the role for personal reasons. He took up the post, a new one, in September 2016, when Claus Dietrich Lahrs succeeded him as chief executive officer of Bottega Veneta.
Beretta, who was also on group’s executive committee, was charged with monitoring the equity of the brands in the group’s portfolio; establishing “a comprehensive, measurable and profitable customer culture” for each of them; and speeding the development of the group’s omnichannel capabilities.
Kering’s portfolio includes Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Boucheron, Brioni and Puma.
Beretta started his career in 1993 at the Italian department store La Rinascente as senior buyer. He spent over seven years there, winding up as merchandising manager for men’s wear. He was then appointed men’s wear brand manager at Valentino. In 2003 he joined the Ermenegildo Zegna group, working 11 years, eventually rising to retail development director. He was appointed ceo of Bottega Veneta in January 2015.

Armed Robbers Raid Cartier Store in Monte Carlo

DAYLIGHT ROBBERY: French police are hunting for two suspects following a dramatic heist at a Cartier jewelry store on Monte Carlo’s Casino Square on Saturday afternoon.
According to a statement from the Monaco prosecutor’s office, three masked men carrying at least one firearm robbed the store at gunpoint at 3:40 p.m. They allegedly made off with a haul of jewelry, with the details on the items and their value yet to be confirmed. One of the suspects was arrested, and a weapon recovered, but the two others managed to escape. No others were harmed in the incident, with no hostages taken.
Shoppers took refuge in stores and cafés during the dramatic intervention after police cordoned off the area around the square in the center of the Mediterranean principality, according to local reports.
Cartier wasn’t immediately available for comment.
The news is bound to make Cannes officials and organizers of the upcoming Cannes Film Festival a little jittery, given the string of jewelry robberies to hit the Riviera city in recent years. Nicole Kidman, Isabelle Huppert, and Julianne Moore are among actresses expected to attend the red-carpet event, which will take place from May 17 to 28.
Just two months ago, an armed robber reportedly escaped on foot

Italian Tenor And WWII POW Carlo Bergonzi Dies At 90

MILAN (AP) — Italian tenor Carlo Bergonzi, considered one of the most authoritative interpreters of Verdi’s operas, has died at the age of 90.

The Italian Auxologic Institute in Milan on Monday confirmed Bergonzi’s death on Friday. No cause was given. Born in the province of Parma not far from Verdi’s hometown, Bergonzi started his studies at age 16 as a baritone, only to discover later that his musical gifts lay in the tenor range. Bergonzi served in World War II in an anti-aircraft artillery unit, and was interned in a German forced labor camp for three years.

Bergonzi’s international career took off after his 1956 debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he sang the role of Radames in Verdi’s Aida. His Met career spanned 32 years and 22 roles.

The Met recalled in a tribute that Bergonzi “was particularly praised for the beauty and warmth of his singing and for his elegant attention to style and phrasing.”

He also sang nine seasons at La Scala in Milan and 21 seasons at the Arena open-air summer theater in Verona.

Bergonzi ended his artistic career in 1995, devoting himself to teaching singing. For his 90th birthday on July 12, the town of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth dedicated a concert by the Italian Philharmonic Orchestra to Bergonzi.

He is survived by his wife Adele and the couple’s two sons, Maurizio, born on the same day Bergonzi made his debut as a tenor, and Marco.
