Chanel Iman on Expecting a Baby Girl: ‘I’m Dying to Put Her in a Cheerleading Outfit!’

Model Chanel Iman may be husband and New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard’s number one fan now, but in just a few months, the NFL star is going to have another lady sitting on the sidelines cheering him on at football games.

The newly married couple who are expecting their first child together, a baby girl, are counting down the days until she arrives and can join Iman at all of Shepard’s Giants games and practices.

“I just had a baby shower and one of Sterling’s cousins made a cheerleading outfit ,” Iman told PeopleStyle. “I’m dying to put it on our little girl when she’s here and take her to the games when she’s a little bit older.”

But until then, Iman will make sure to support her husband once the season stars this fall by wearing one of New Era’s NFL Training 9TWENTY NY Giants Caps now that she’s teamed up with the brand for its new NFL Training Camp Collection.

“New Era is just one of those brands that is perfect for my everyday style. I’ve been wearing it since I was a teenager,” Iman said. “Whether I’m traveling or going to my husband’s football games to support him or going to gym, I wear all of the fitted caps. I have a lot of bad hair days as well, so it helps making my outfit that much cuter!”

We caught up with the star to talk all things style, motherhood and more in honor of her new partnership — see everything the supermodel shared with us below!

So now that you’re married to an NFL star, how much Giants gear do you have?

A lot. I’m the type of person, where I will wear something more than once, but it feels the best when it’s brand new and different. I kind of mix and match my New Era caps, with my denim ripped jeans and maybe a crop top. I like to wear his jersey as well with a hat or just the jersey with some cool sneakers. I like to mix it up a bit with my casual everyday wear with the sports apparel.

What do you love most about the New Era caps?

It’s perfect for hot summer days, especially when I go to Sterling’s practices. I try to make it to all of them. It’s lightweight and it has that new cooling technology. I also travel a lot from L.A. to N.Y. in the summertime when it’s super humid and it’s just the perfect summer hat.

Do you have a little baby jersey made for your daughter yet?

No, we don’t have the jersey yet, but I’m dying to get one made!

What has been your approach to maternity dressing?

I’m wearing things that stretch, like flowy maxi dresses. Just anything that’s not so tight. I have one pair of maternity jeans that I love. I keep it really simple. In my first trimester I was wearing more sweatpants and some of Sterling’s oversize hoodies. But now that it’s summertime, I’m trying to look a little more stylish.

Now that you know you’re having a girl, is there anything in your closet you’re saving for her?

There’s lots of stuff, but I try not to keep too much because I hate clutter. I know there are so many pieces that designers have made for me in my closet that I can’t wait to give my daughter, like all my purses. She’s gonna love everything when she’s older and can appreciate quality brands. We are saving my wedding dress that Zuhair Murad made for me, for the reception and ceremony. I was listening to Beyoncé’s new album and she was talking about stuff she was saving for her daughter, too.

Where are you storing your wedding gown now?

Right now, it’s at my mom’s house. She took it to the cleaners and I think they wrapped it in some kind of garment bag.

How do you think the modeling industry has changed in the social media age?

There has definitely been a shift since I first started. What I love about the whole social change is that it’s a great way for your fans to connect with you. It’s been wonderful to connect with my fans even in a time when I probably wouldn’t be working. So they can still keep up to date with what I’m doing everyday and my lifestyle.

Chanel Brings a Bit of Hamburg to Moscow

MOSCOW — Chanel, which kick-started the international resort season with its May 4 spectacle in Paris, hit the road to stage a fashion show in Moscow on Thursday night, parading its Paris-Hamburg Métiers d’art collection in a vast industrial space.
The event drew a wide swath of Russia’s elite — all decked out in tweeds, black-and-white and double Cs — who drank in an imposing set reminiscent of a shipyard, complete with lighting effects, making the floor undulate with waves.
The show was set at Pavilion 69, part of the vast trade show and amusement park VDNKh, previously called the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy. Its famous attractions include a gilded fountain spewing water from sheaves of wheat — a symbol of Chanel — and the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman sculpture of two giant figures with a sickle and a hammer raised.
Andrei Kirilenko, commissioner of the Russian Basketball Federation and a former NBA star, said he’s been to Paris and New York fashion weeks, and the Moscow showing lived up to those standards. “I was impressed by the show and the organization — Chanel knows how to do it,” he said.
Following the fashion show, guests were treated to flowing Champagne, lavish

Chanel Cruise 2019

PARIS — What better way to showcase cruise than on a cruise?
That, at least, was the thinking at Chanel this season, but the plan ran into a snag: the house could not secure a ship fit to host its floating show. So instead, creative director Karl Lagerfeld brought the boat to dry land, constructing a 330-foot-long ocean liner in the middle of the Grand Palais.
Named La Pausa, after the villa in the South of France built by founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in the Thirties, the replica ship was the spectacular backdrop for Chanel’s cruise collection on Thursday night, which drew guests including Margot Robbie, Kristen Stewart and Lily-Rose Depp.
But it was another appearance that set tongues wagging: Lagerfeld took his bow with his longtime fashion studio director Virginie Viard, in a move sure to fan rumors about his potential retirement — though a spokeswoman for Chanel said he had done it before, and there was no special significance to the gesture.
By now, the designer’s outsize imagination should come as no surprise to any regular guests at his Chanel shows, which in recent seasons have featured a space rocket, a waterfall and a reproduction of the Eiffel Tower. But this was

Chanel RTW Fall 2018

“Darling, it’s a fitting.” So said Karl Lagerfeld in response to Amanda Harlech’s unsolicited opinion that a particular look worked better without sunglasses. Ultimately, Lagerfeld agreed, and au revoir, eyewear.
A preview chez Chanel is like no other experience. Lagerfeld conducts fittings in his studio on Rue Cambon, where he sits at his desk cluttered with books, jewelry trays, perhaps an iPad or two, a glass of water in Lalique stemware. All of his team involved in producing the show bustle about, variously escorting models from the dressing room; suggesting sunglasses; adjusting hair and makeup; presenting a range of colorful leather glove choices; retrieving handbags from a vast grouping on the floor. Lagerfeld receives you in the midst of it all. What he doesn’t do is disrupt the process for the visit. Rather, he welcomes guests into it, fashion’s most accomplished multitasker alternating focus from model to staffers to interloping journalists. Hence, his quip to Harlech, followed by a reference to his most recent take-your-breath-away set: ”It’s a forest. You will see.”
With the Chanel supermarket, art gallery and casino in the rearview mirror, recently Lagerfeld has been getting in touch with his inner Thoreau and embracing the natural world. He’s gone under

Chanel Sets May 3 as Date for Cruise Show in Paris

GRAND DESIGNS: Chanel has set May 3 as the date of its cruise show in Paris. The collection, designed by Karl Lagerfeld, will be shown at the Grand Palais, as reported.
Chanel last month reaffirmed its commitment to the venue, signing on as the exclusive private sponsor of the renovation of the Grand Palais with plans to pledge 25 million euros toward the works, which are due to be completed in time for the Summer Olympics in Paris in 2024.
France is proving a popular destination for this year’s crop of cruise shows. Louis Vuitton will head to the south of France for its display on May 28, but has yet to disclose the exact location, while Gucci will stage its show in Arles on May 30.
Prada, meanwhile, will unveil its cruise collection in New York on May 4, but has kept details about the location under wraps.

Chanel Makes New Year’s Resolutions

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS: “Call things by their name.” “Take things in hand.” “Makeup your weaknesses (never your emotions).” So read some of the resolutions outlined by Chanel’s new year’s fragrance and beauty campaign, titled “En 2018 Osez” (or “In 2018 Dare”), which is set to run in the Paris metro system between Dec. 19 and 25.
Each written message is paired with a product: “Stop at red,” features a photo of a Rouge Allure lipstick, for instance. “Make a statement with the most care” is shown with a jar of Sublimage cream, and “Long live love and water” is pictured with the No.5 L’Eau fragrance.
The institutional advertisements are meant to suggest that true independence, freedom and success come only after taking full control of one’s own life, as Gabrielle Chanel did, according to Thomas du Pré de Saint Maur, director of creative resources at Chanel Perfumes Beauty and Watches Jewelry.
Chanel, who famously loved to be where she was unexpected, no doubt would have given the nod to the campaign’s lofty-yet-underground nature.

Keira Knightley Sings in French in New Chanel Video

PLAY IT AGAIN: Keira Knightley takes on a classic French film song in the new video for Chanel’s Coco Crush jewelry collection, which she has represented since last year.
The British actress sings “Le Tourbillon de la Vie,” made famous by Jeanne Moreau on the soundtrack of the 1962 movie “Jules et Jim,” a classic French New Wave film directed by François Truffaut.
The song has previously been covered by Vanessa Paradis, another Chanel brand ambassador, who famously performed it in a duet with Moreau at the Cannes Film Festival in 1995.
Knightley, who played a singer-songwriter in the 2013 film “Begin Again,” co-starring Mark Ruffalo and Adam Levine, is shown strumming a guitar, her fingers bedecked in Coco Crush rings with quilted motifs inspired by Chanel’s classic handbag.

Chanel Scores Win in Legal Fight to Protect CC Monogram Mark

LOGO LOCK: Chanel on Tuesday scored a victory in its fight to protect its trademark double-C logo.
The European Union’s General Court invalidated a decision by the board of appeal of the European Union Intellectual Property Office, or EUIPO, in a case pitting the French luxury firm against Li Jing Zhou, a resident of Spain, and Golden Rose 999 Srl, a company established in Rome.
In 2010, Zhou registered a symbol consisting of two interlocking S shapes, which Chanel sought to have canceled on the grounds that it strongly resembled its monogram, which has been a registered trademark in France since 1989. The EUIPO’s board in 2014 rejected its request for a revocation.
But the Luxembourg-based General Court estimated that the two drawings had “remarkable similarities,” adding that Zhou’s design could be perceived as a creation inspired by the idea of the Chanel monogram, which could potentially create confusion in the minds of consumers.
The Luxembourg court annulled the EUIPO’s decision but rejected Chanel’s request to have the contested trademark declared invalid, saying this was not within the realm of its competencies. The EUIPO has been ordered to pay costs in the case.
Last month, Chanel won a multimillion-dollar trademark infringement lawsuit against more than two dozen

FASHION MONUMENT: “It’s like Vegas in Paris,” said French actress Pom Klementieff of Chanel’s latest show set extravaganza: A reconstruction of a section of the Eiffel Tower. Even the most seasoned of Chanel show-goers was gobsmacked.
“It’s quite extraordinary, coming through the door into the Grand Palais….I mean for anyone who’s not been here, it’s a pretty awesome space, but to imagine someone saying, ‘Let’s build the first couple of storyies of the Eiffel Tower with, by the way, a cloud at the top of it’….It really takes my breath away,” said Tilda Swinton. “It’s beyond, and there’s something really beautiful about this show, this setting. This whole Robert Delaunay kind of Orphist sensibility right now in Paris, that feels really, really touching. I thought it was bang-on.”

Cruise Control: Chanel to Remain in Paris for Resort Show

FRENCH LESSONS: He’ll always have Paris — even during cruise season. Karl Lagerfeld is to parade his next cruise collection for Chanel in the French capital, reaffirming his attachment to the city and its importance for fashion, WWD has learned.
Chanel confirmed May 3 as the date of the show, but has yet to disclose the venue or other details.
Lagerfeld and Chanel recently privatized the Ritz Paris and staged three shows for the Métiers d’Art collection, a pre-fall range of ready-to-wear embellished by the specialty couture ateliers that Chanel owns. He dubbed it “Paris Cosmopolite” to evoke a time when elegant women from the world over converged on the mythic Place Vendôme hotel, established in 1898.
The Rue Cambon house has been a pioneer in staging itinerant shows and has taken its cruise collection as far afield as Seoul and Havana and its Métiers d’Art collection to Dallas, Edinburgh and Salzburg. Lagerfeld typically uses each destination to exalt a facet of the house’s lore — or to invent a new chapter.
But Paris remains a key font of inspiration for Lagerfeld, whose Métiers d’Art effort for Chanel in December 2015 was themed “Paris in Rome.” Staged at Cinecittà film studio No. 5, it boasted a

Chanel Invests in French Lacemaker Sophie Hallette

LACEMAKING: Chanel has become a minority investor in French lacemaker Sophie Hallette’s parent company Groupe Holesco, according to Sophie Hallette chief executive officer and Holesco president Romain Lescroart.
“The partnership aims to perpetuate the historical lace sector — the pride of Calais and Caudry’s heritage,” Chanel said. “It also aims to maintain in France a unique know-how and the essential Leavers, these bicentennial machines that allow to create very high-end and labeled lace, which is crucial to meet the demand of haute couture and creation.”

The new partnership comes as Groupe Holesco is in the bidding to acquire compatriot Codentel, an ailing industrial lacemaker that entered receivership in December. A Chinese firm is among the other bidders, the same player that recently won the battle for another ailing lacemaker, Desseilles, against Groupe Holesco, following a French court’s ruling.
The next court hearing for the future of Codentel is due on Thursday. “The partnership coincides with the Codentel file but it’s a long-term strategic partnership for the future of lacemaking in Calais,” Lescroart said.

Chanel Buys Founder’s Villa La Pausa

HOUSE PROUD: Chanel said Wednesday that it has purchased Gabrielle Chanel’s villa La Pausa in the south of France. It is the only one of her homes that she entirely imagined, constructed and decorated.
During the Twenties, the designer had visited the area with the Duke of Westminster. She decided to build a home overlooking the Mediterranean and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.
Chanel bought the land on Sept. 30, 1928, and the construction of the villa ended in January 1930.
The house’s architecture has numerous references to that of Aubazine, the orphanage (and former abbey) where Chanel spent her adolesence. The furnishings were “new, simple and modern,” and caused an immediate sensation, according to the house of Chanel.
Its founder informally hosted the likes of Misia Sert, Jean Cocteau, Salvador Dalí and Paul Iribe at La Pausa.
Following the death of the Duke of Westminster in 1954, Chanel sold La Pausa and its contents to the American author and editor Emery Reves, who welcomed friends such as Winston Churchill, Greta Garbo and Jacqueline Onassis there.
“It is therefore an essential witness to the life of Gabrielle Chanel, which today joins the patrimony of Chanel,” the house stated.
La Pausa is to be renovated in the spirit of its origins.

The Hidden Ways Dior and Chanel Inspired Minnie Mouse

Minnie Mouse has been having a major fashion moment as of late, but when you look back through Disney‘s history you realize…she’s pretty much always been having a moment. Vans is the latest to immortalize her as a fashion icon, including the fabulous little rodent in its special Disney capsule collection, released earlier this summer. But long before the world had ever heard of a fashion collaboration, Minnie was brushing elbows with some of the style world’s biggest names.

minnie-mouse-1937

Minnie and friends in 1937

The iconic polka-dot skirt? It was inspired by Coco Chanel‘s designs from the 1920s. Twenty years later, her original outfit became a touch more voluminous due to Christian Dior‘s infamous New Look (the same postwar runway styling that influenced women’s wardrobes around the globe). And while you’d be forgiven for identifying the pillbox hat exclusively with Jackie Kennedy., Minnie can lay some claim to it too.

“She’s always evolved through the decades. Like in the ’30s, her pillbox hat with the daisy was such an icon that women’s hats started to reduce in size significantly,” Soo Koo, a vice president within Disney’s Consumer Products division, told Glamour. “The character has really aligned itself with fashion.”

Shoppers and fashion-observers might have noticed the recent spate of Minnie-connected offerings (like Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s and Dazed‘s high-fashion photo shoot), but don’t be confused: =The character has been in this game for a long time.

minnie-mouse-shoes

A look at the process from Vans’ recent collaboration with Disney.

“She’s one of our most universally recognized characters,” Koo said. “We’ve been collaborating with designers for the past 10 years, from Comme des Garçons to a high-end Italian furniture designer. Lanvin even did a dress for Minnie to celebrate her 20th anniversary in the parks in Paris.”

The Vans connection itself might have fresh stock to offer, but it’s a relationship that’s familiar to Minnie and friends.

“We have a relationship that dates back to the [Vans founder] Van Doren days, which began in the late ’60s, early ’70s,” explained Vans’ head designer Rian Pozzebon. “Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Winnie the Pooh were actually featured on Vans footwear back in the ’80s, so when we worked with the Disney group [this time], it felt right to blend their classics with our classics.”

Did Coco Chanel Become the Designer She Was Because She Was…Single?

A fashion professor has raised an interesting point I’ve never thought about before: Was Coco Chanel‘s success tied, partially, to the fact that she never married? The designer wasn’t without her share of long-term, emotionally charged love affairs; one theory for the beyond-famous interlocking C’s is that the logo was created as a way to immortalize the love between Chanel and Boy Capel after he passed away. But lovers aside, no one ever put a ring on it.

coco-chanel-2

“For Chanel and young divorcée Madeleine Vionnet, their single status, atypical for the time, meant radically rethinking their relationship to the male gaze and therefore to style,” Alice Litscher, a professor in fashion communication at the Institut Français de la Mode in Paris, told The Guardian. “Vionnet’s loose bias cuts or Coco’s tweeds expressed a radical sense of liberation from classical femininity and seduction.”

Chanel was paramount in changing how women viewed style, introducing comfortable jersey and taking inspiration from the uniforms of sailors, both of which combined to create the easy shifts we still wear today (Downton Abbey watchers, think about when you first noticed the female characters’ costumes begin to change—that would’ve been Chanel’s influence at play).

Have you read a Chanel biography? If you haven’t, I’m suggesting it for any lazy couch time over the holidays. She was fascinating.

The Allure of Chanel

The Allure of Chanel

NEW DELUXE SPECIAL EDITION, AUTHORISED BY CHANEL “Chanel is France’s greatest figure . . . the most impetuous, the most brilliantly insufferable woman there ever was.”–Paul Morand Paul Morand’s last book, one of the most appealing of his oeuvre, brings together around the figure of Chanel, portraits of Misia Sert, Erik Satie, Serge Lifar, Georges Auric, Raymond Radiguet, Jean Cocteau, Picasso and Churchill, among others. Based on a series of intimate conversations between Morand and Coco Chanel, written in the great storyteller’s marvellous prose, this book artfully sketches the character of the elusive, mysterious and charming creature who inspired Malraux to say: “Chanel, De Gaulle and Picasso are the greatest figures of our times.” Hailed on its publication in 1976 as “a great celebration of a book, a finely cut, sparkling gem,” “The Allure of Chanel “attracted the attention of Karl Lagerfeld, who embellished it with seventy-three drawings, sketched for this special illustrated edition. Paul Morand was born in Paris in 1888. After studying at the Ecole des Science Politiques he joined the diplomatic corps, serving in London, Rome, Berne and Bucharest. His first collection of stories, “Tender Shoots “(1921), was introduced by his friend Marcel Proust. In a long and busy life, he found time to write poetry, novels, short stories and travel books. Morand was made a member of the Academie Francaise in 1963. He was married to the Romanian princess Helene Soutzo, and died in 1976, the year that “The Allure of Chanel” was published.
