Todd Snyder Taps Frank Muytjens as Guest Creative

Todd Snyder is a loyal friend.
First, he brought the former GQ editor Jim Moore on board to act as a stylist for his spring runway show and editorial campaigns. Now, he’s tapped Frank Muytjens, a longtime friend and one-time colleague at J. Crew, to be the first person featured in the new “Curated by” segment of his popular catalogue.
“Frank is such a huge talent and we were really close friends when we worked together at J. Crew,” Snyder said.
So it was a no-brainer when he came up for the idea for a series of creative types to curate their favorite pieces in his catalogue, that he would turn to Muytjens to kick it off. In mid-2017, Muytjens was among the casualties in J. Crew’s ongoing restructuring. Then this August, Muytjens revealed that he had partnered with artist and entrepreneur Scott Edward Cole to open a luxury bed-and-breakfast inn in the Berkshires called the Inn at Kenmore Hall.
“I wanted to partner with people who inspire me and ask them to tell me what inspires them,” he said. “The theme of this catalogue is ‘Upstate State of Mind’ so Frank was perfect for it. Plus, we probably have a very similar audience and

Hervé Léger Has a New Creative Director

Christian’s New Gig: Contemporary designer brand Hervé Léger, best known for its body-con “bandage” dresses, has a new creative director: Christian Juul Nielsen.
According to Nielsen’s LinkedIn profile, he also has served as the creative director at advanced contemporary brand Land of Distraction since November 2016. It is understood that he will continue at the startup brand while bringing a shot of energy to the Hervé Léger brand. The latter was part of the BCBG portfolio owned by Max Azria until the company fell on hard times and found itself in bankruptcy proceedings last year. Brand management firm Marquee Brands acquired the BCBG trademarks — including Hervé Léger — and then sold the Hervé Léger brand to Authentic Brands Group. ABG is also a brand management firm.
The profile also said Nielsen’s past stints include senior designer, women’s wear, at Christian Dior; consulting design director at J. Mendel; design director for Oscar de la Renta, and designer for Nina Ricci. Sources said he has been working on the new Hervé Léger line since the summer in preparation for a presentation at New York Fashion Week next month.

Prps Names Donadi as Creative Director

Prps has named designer Mattia Donadi its new creative director.
In this role, Donadi will steer and oversee all design and product development at the high-end denim line, including setting the creative tone and positioning of the New York-based brand.
He has quietly been working with the brand since February, right around the time founder Donwan Harrell left the label that he had founded in 2002. However, spring will mark the first official collection designed by Donadi, leading Prps to go public with the news of his appointment now.
Donadi has worked in fashion for nearly 20 years and served as senior director of product development for Helmut Lang as well as director of production for R13. He also founded two consultancies specializing in product design, production and branding prior to joining Prps.
He is considered a leader in the art of denim washing and a trendsetter in denim development and production techniques.
Prps, which stands for purpose, was founded by Harrell in 2002. It now offers men’s and women’s sportswear and lifestyle products in addition to the core denim Prps products, as well as a selvage denim collection under the Prps Noir name. Louise Trotter Exits Joseph as Creative Director

GOODBYE, JOSEPH: Louise Trotter is leaving her post as creative director of Joseph after nine years. Her last collection for the British label will be pre-fall 2019, WWD has learned.
Hirosuke Takagi, chief executive officer of Joseph, said Trotter had decided to leave, having made “a significant contribution to the brand, in particular our international expansion, the launch of men’s wear and, most recently, accessories.” He added that the company was grateful “for her important contribution to Joseph and the foundation she has built for its continuous success.”
Trotter said her departure marks the end of an era. “Working for Joseph for the past nine years has been an incredible experience, and I feel very lucky to have been surrounded by such an amazing and talented team who worked alongside me with passion and creativity. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my team and the brilliant collaborators who have traveled on this journey with me.”
Trotter will leave at the end of August and a new creative director will be appointed in due course, the company said. Trotter joined Joseph in 2009 from the British high street label Jigsaw, where she also held the title of creative director. Before Jigsaw, she served as

Ernest Sabine Named Creative Director of J.W. Hulme

Ernest Sabine has just doubled his workload.
The designer and founder of the accessories brand Ernest Alexander has been named creative director of J.W. Hulme Co., a leather goods and canvas products brand that was founded in 1905. J.W. Hulme, which is based in St. Paul, is best known for its handmade, heirloom-quality products and Old School finishing techniques.
Sabine, who started his Ernest Alexander label in 2009, is a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and was the recipient of GQ’s Best New Designer in America award.
He said Dean Vanech, the owner of J.W. Hulme, “had been looking for ways to evolve the brand from both a product and branding point of view. My name came up and we connected. It instantly felt like a natural fit — there is a lot of crossover between my background in the men’s bag world and J.W. Hulme’s rich history of making beautiful bags and leather goods.”
Sabine said the initial deal is for one year with the potential to collaborate on future seasons. In addition to overseeing the artistic direction and aesthetics of the brand, he will also be involved in its marketing and advertising efforts.

The Brothers Ovadia Seamlessly Blend Creative and Commerce

It was a chance meeting with Ralph Lauren at the Double RL store in East Hampton, N.Y., that forever changed the lives of Ariel and Shimon Ovadia.
The twins were browsing through the store one day when they spied the legendary designer. Although too shy to approach him, their stares caught Lauren’s attention. He asked them if they were “in the business,” and they said, “No, but we want to be.”
Lauren then spent the next hour telling the brothers his life story and how he had created his fashion empire.
Starstruck, the Ovadias decided a month later to start down the same path and launch their own brand.
In the seven years since, the brothers, now 35, have proven that the journey they started that day was the right one. Today, the Ovadia & Sons label is carried in Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and other upscale department and specialty stores in the U.S. They have collaborated with everyone from Levi’s, the Gap and J. Press to street artists and the estates of legendary figures such as Bruce Lee.

Lane Crawford Reveals Australian Creative Call Out Winners

SYDNEY — Sydney industrial designer Tom Fereday is the winner of Lane Crawford’s first Australian Creative Call Out, WWD can reveal.
Chosen from a field of over 240 Australian applicants, Fereday will receive prize money of 500,000 Hong Kong dollars or $ 63,700 at current exchange, as part of an 18-month partnership with the company, which will also include access to Lane Crawford’s retail platform and mentorship.
A graduate of the University of Technology Sydney and a Marc Newson mentee, Fereday founded his design studio in 2012 and his award-winning work has been exhibited in Milan, Stockholm, Las Vegas, New York and London. Clients include Louis Vuitton – a number of pieces of Fereday’s furniture feature in the company’s Westfield Bondi Junction store in Sydney.
An additional 12 runnersup — half fashion brands, the others a mix of architecture, design and art studios — will enter the incubator program, receiving mentorship and commercial advice and being featured by Lane Crawford across marketing campaigns.
The fashion and apparel brands — Chris Ran Lin, Christian Kimber, Jonathan Liang, Thomas Puttick, Nagnata and Rachel Burke — will have the opportunity to launch their collections with Lane Crawford for at least two seasons.

The artist and entrepreneur has joined the sports brand as creative director of basketball operations and will work on player signings, product design and marketing strategy.
The appointment came on the same day that Puma said it was relaunching its basketball division. It hosted an event in Brooklyn with former New York Knicks legend Walt “Clyde” Frazier, who was honored with a lifetime Puma contract.

Reebok’s Former Creative Director Thomas Steinbrück Talks Shop, Ready for His Next Move

IT’S ALL GOOD: Rejuvenating in Switzerland now that his two-year run as Reebok’s creative director is over, Thomas Steinbrück said he is gearing up for his next post with a European company. With that announcement expected to happen in the next few weeks, he was relishing some down time with his mother. “It’s so calm. There’s nothing — just mountains, quietness, cows, fresh air, good food and I sleep like a baby here. A week is like five weeks of vacation on the beach for me,” he said.
With Reebok, he lined up the collaborations with Vetements and Cottweiler, among others. He said he oversaw a 50-person team handling graphics, creative direction and colors, but was holistically influencing more than 100 people, including the design team for shoes, apparel and Reebok Classic, among others. Steinbrück said, “I loved what I was doing. I loved that brand. I loved the team. The people are awesome there. The story of the company is incredible. I learned a lot.”

Dennis Basso’s Creative Director Emily Burnett to Exit

GOOD-BYE ON GOOD TERMS: Dennis Basso’s 2019 resort collection will be a swan song for creative director Emily Burnett.
After 10 years at the company, she is exiting at the end of this month. A replacement has not yet been named, but candidates will be interviewed next week, Burnett said.
Basso said Wednesday, “Emily was a wonderful part of the design team, she understood my vision and ‘the Basso woman.’ I wish her great success in her future endeavors.”
Burnett plans to launch her own young designer women’s wear collection this summer with the support of an undisclosed business partner. The first collection will be pre-fall shown in December.
She said of her departure, “I felt that I had all of the training and a really great network. I met my business partner and we just thought it was the right moment to start a female founded brand.”
Burnett graduated from The New School’s Parsons School of Design, studying fashion design in a class that included Cushnie et Ochs’ founders Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, and another New York designer Elizabeth Kennedy. Former GQ Staffer, Tech Start-up Founder and Creative Director to Unveil Seam

Justin Hruska, a sneaker collector with a background in tech, wasn’t satisfied with his online shopping experience. Oftentimes he would visit larger e-commerce sites and feel shortchanged because he knew he wasn’t seeing everything a brand had to offer, which meant he had to visit other sites to find what he was looking for.
“A lot of brands use wholesale for awareness and put their best-selling products on their own site,” said Hruska. “So the consumer has to jump through all these hoops before they can purchase a $ 300 sweatshirt. With Seam, we want to reimagine what that looks like.”
Seam is a men’s and women’s shopping app set to launch this summer that was cofounded by Hruska, the chief executive officer, and Jake Woolf, the editorial director. Nate Brown, who cofounded Studio Institute, a creative firm that’s worked with artists including Beyoncé and Jay Z on tour visuals, is a partner and a strategic adviser who worked helped design the app.
Similar to Farfetch, Seam will serve as a marketplace, but instead of partnering with boutiques, Seam works directly with brands and designers and the app will mirror the product available on their e-commerce sites. Woolf said because Seam holds no inventory

Les Copains Teams Up With Grumble Creative

MILAN — In its goal to boost its social media channels, Les Copains unveiled on Tuesday the beginning of its partnership with Milan-based social media agency Grumble Creative.
The brand’s account on Instagram counted more than 26,000 followers at press time.
“Social media [channels] are the places where phenomena happen. For this reason the decision to collaborate with three young influencers helming Grumble Creative seemed like the most natural way to find new solutions to approach a young, new clientele,” said Alessandro Mariani, Les Copains’ chief executive officer.
The brand aims to foster its online presence and customers’ engagement beyond a multichannel retail strategy. The partnership with Grumble Creative is expected to help establish a profitable dialogue with Generation Y by implementing new web-marketing strategies.

On Saturday, the mom of three shared that she had come up with a brand new type of food for her daughter North, 4 ½, and son Saint, 2, to eat: hot dog sushi rolls.

Sharing a photo of the innovative snack on her Instagram Stories, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, 37, explained that “when your kids LOVE sushi & hotdogs you get creative.”

Salvatore Ferragamo Appoints Paul Andrew Creative Director, Women’s Collections

MILAN — The trifecta format didn’t work.
On Thursday, Salvatore Ferragamo revealed that Paul Andrew, who had joined the company as women’s footwear director in September last year, will now be in charge of the women’s wear ready-to-wear line as well. His first collection for the brand in this new role will bow for fall 2018. Andrew will oversee the development of all women’s product categories, as well as the creative contents of all marketing, communication and image activities.
The appointment was made public after trading hours in Milan, where the Florence-based company is listed. Shares closed down 1.51 percent to 22.79 euros.
In November 2016, Fulvio Rigoni was appointed women’s ready-to-wear design director and Guillaume Meilland as men’s rtw design director. Rigoni debuted his looks on the catwalk in September 2016, but his efforts have received a mixed response, while Andrew’s footwear collections have generally been praised.

Even Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr gets chocolate cravings from time to time.

PEOPLE caught up with the Australian model for our video series One Last Thing, during which she revealed she cooks her own meals to bring aboard flights, can’t get Shania Twain out of her head, and will go to great lengths for a cup of hot cocoa.

“I called the hotel and I was like, ‘Ooh can I have a hot chocolate?’” she says of the last time she indulged in a guilty pleasure.  “And they were like, ‘Sorry we don’t have hot chocolate.’ And I was like, ‘Who doesn’t have hot chocolate?’”

So Kerr had to get creative. “I had some chocolate in the fridge so I got the chocolate and then I put hot water with it, and then a little milk. So I made my own!”

Kerr once told Vogue that she usually likes to make her own healthier version of chocolate made with raw cacao, coconut oil, almond butter, honey and himalayan sea salt—so really her whipping up beverages in her hotel room wasn’t really abnormal.

Apart from her chocolate-making endeavors, she recently cooked up a storm before heading to the airport.

NEW HOME: As takeover rumors swirl, Matchesfashion.com is expanding with a new East London creative hub. The new office space, which is located at Here East Studios at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and spans 24,000 square feet, will house the company’s photography, video and editorial teams in state-of-the-art facilities.
Equipped with more than 20 photography bays and video sets, the hub will enable the e-tailer to increase the amount of products shot, styled and uploaded on the site by 50 percent, reaching 2,000 products per week. French Label Paule Ka to Part Ways With Creative Director

NEW HORIZONS: Suggesting short tenures are the new norm in fashion, Paule Ka is the latest fashion house with a change in creative direction.
According to market sources, Alithia Spuri-Zampetti and the French firm are to part ways after a two-year collaboration. Officials at Paule Ka declined to comment.
Spuri-Zampetti worked to extend the brand’s appeal in daywear and separates, bringing to the task a passion for fabric innovation and a sense of elegance rooted in the classic French fashions of the Fifties and Sixties.
Formerly the head designer in charge of women’s ready-to-wear collections at Lanvin, she was the first designer at Paule Ka since the departure in 2014 of founder and creative director Serge Cajfinger. Spuri-Zampetti also has stints at Valentino and Bottega Veneta under her belt.
The Italian-American designer grew up in Rome and the U.S. She is a graduate of Central Saint Martins in London.
Paule Ka has targeted expansion in the United States, Middle East and Asia since Change Capital Partners bought a 70 percent stake in the firm in 2011. “We have a global objective of doubling in size in the next five years,” Catherine Vautrin, chairman and chief executive officer of Paule Ka, told WWD last year.

Ciongoli to Exit Eidos as Creative Director

Antonio K. Ciongoli, cofounder and creative director of Eidos, the more fashion-forward division of Isaia, is leaving the brand after this season to launch his own collection.
Ciongoli, who has designed the collection for four-and-a-half years, will stay on through the end of this season and retain his equity stake in the label.
“Building Eidos has been a life-changing experience for me and I cannot thank Gianluca Isaia and Jim Shay [Isaia’s U.S. president] enough for the opportunity to do so,” he said. “While moving on from anything one cares about is difficult, I am optimistic about Eidos’ potential and I look forward to watching its future evolution,” Ciongoli said.
He declined to provide details about his next project at this point, saying he would unveil weekly updates via his Instagram account.
“In the last six years, I have seen the retail landscape change dramatically. The value in today’s market is the opportunity to connect directly with the people to whom our product speaks, and I’m interested in creating an immersive, content-driven platform that expands that dialogue.”

Annabel’s Club Enlists Casely-Hayford, Testino and Tilbury as Creative Consultants

CLUBBABLE TYPES: As it prepares to move into new premises at 46 Berkeley Square, the legendary London private member’s club Annabel’s has enlisted a host of London-based creatives to give it some modern polish.
Casely-Hayford and Racil Chalhoub have designed the new staff uniforms, while Mario Testino and Charlotte Tilbury, among others, have joined as creative consultants.
Joe and Charlie Casely-Hayford, the father and son design team behind the eponymous men’s wear label best known for its tailoring, have created bespoke suits for the club’s male staff.
“Joe represents the established designer, while Charlie represents the new generation of Savile Row,” said Guillaume Glipa, executive director at the Birley Group, which owns Annabel’s.
“Their look is powerful and strong, yet elegant and relaxed. They understand the theatrical approach to this project. It needs a cutting edge, but it needs to be approachable,” said Glipa.

Brioni Taps Nina-Maria Nitsche as New Creative Director

MILAN — Brioni has appointed Nina-Maria Nitsche as its new creative director.
Nitsche joined Maison Martin Margiela in 1989, working closely with the founding designer for 23 years. After Margiela’s  resignation, in 2009, Nitsche took over the creative direction of the brand. She joined Vetements in September 2016 but left when the company relocated to Zurich from Paris earlier this year.
“Ever since I met her in 1996, I have been impressed by her creative approach, starting from a clearly defined concept and then transforming that into products that accurately resonate with the customer,” said Brioni’s chief executive officer Fabrizio Malverdi. “Her point of view will allow the brand’s core values to prosper and yet inject a contemporary dialogue that will enable Brioni to evolve into the future.”

Mom Comes Up With Creative Way For Families To Celebrate Rainbow Babies

A mom in Colorado has come up with a colorfully creative way for families to celebrate the arrival of their rainbow babies. The touching project also recognizes her friend’s strength and persistence during her experience with infertility.

Colorado mom Julie Schneider has launched a Kickstarter campaign in hopes of creating what she calls “Rainbow Hats” for families who have welcomed a rainbow baby, or a baby who is born after a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. Schneider met with a local hat manufacturer who will make the rainbow-colored hats on antique knitting machines. She told HuffPost her friend, whom she’s known for almost 30 years, inspired the project.

Schneider’s friend, who requested that Schneider not include her name on the Kickstarter page or the Rainbow Hats site, welcomed a rainbow baby with her husband this spring after undergoing IVF for a few years. In December, Schneider traveled to Michigan, where her friend resides, where they met at a Barnes & Noble in Ann Arbor. While there, Schneider gave her friend a rainbow-colored hat she crocheted. Schneider told HuffPost “she loved it right away.”

“It’s become one of her favorite hats,” she said.

Seeing how much her friend adored it, Schneider became inspired to share the idea with other families. She has a $ 15,000 goal for the campaign, which lasts until the end of the month; $ 15,000 will cover the first batch of hats, including the hats her backers will receive as their rewards for donating and shipping costs for sending them. Schneider has turned to a hat manufacturer because of a wrist injury that keeps her from making many hats. 

Schneider designed the hats to come in three sizes. The “baby” size is designed to fit newborns and babies up to a year old. The “little” size covers kids 1 to 6 years of age, and the “big” size is for kids and adults 7 years and older. She also designed them so that wearers can fold the brim up or down.

Schneider told HuffPost that in the future she might include other styles of hats like trucker hats or seek out different fabric manufacturers so she can offer more options. For now, she wants to focus on hats to help families symbolize their love for their rainbow babies.

Creative Family Photo Shows Four Generations Of Women

A Texas photographer found a creative way to take an intergenerational family picture.

Amber Rater of Moose Photography created this special image of local mom Nicole Margavitch, along with her mother, grandmother and daughter.

The awesome photo appeared on the popular Facebook page, Love What Matters, where it received over 19,000 likes. 

“This photograph is something I will cherish for the rest of my life,” Nicole stated in the caption. “There are 72 years between the first and the last photo in this sequence, yet the values, beauty and love transcend through generations. This photo captures the pride we have for those who came before us and those who came after us.” 

Several Facebook commenters shared similar photos of their own families.

Though Amber used Photoshop to bring the image to life, you can create a similar photo manually, by printing out photographs as you go along and having each successive family member hold them. 

It takes work, but as the above photos show, the result is pure family joy.

Lil Yachty Named Creative Designer at Nautica

Nautica and Lil Yachty are deepening their relationship.
The heritage brand has brought the rapper on as a creative designer for 2017. This comes after Lil Yachty served as the face of a Nautica capsule collection for Urban Outfitters that was released last year.
In the role, the artist will design capsule collections and appear in digital and social media advertising campaigns. Nautica said these capsule collections will include rereleased vintage styles along with classic sportswear.
Long before partnering with Nautica officially, the 19-year-old was an enthusiast who regularly wore vintage styles from the brand, which connected with his affinity for all things nautical. He’s a part of a collective of artists who call themselves “The Sailing Team” and his stage name comes from “The Yacht Club,” a name he and his group of friends created in high school.
“Nautica is like a part of me,” said Lil Yachty, who’s known for his signature red, beaded braids. “It’s for kids, sailors, grown men and cool people.  The designs — the old designs, the new designs, I think it’s dope. There’s not really much out there like Nautica.”

Mackintosh Appoints Kiko Kostadinov Creative Director of Mackintosh 0001

LONDON — Mackintosh, the Scotland-based heritage label known for its raincoats and performance fabrics, has announced the launch of a new designer line dubbed Mackintosh 0001 and the appointment of London-based up-and-comer Kiko Kostadinov, as its creative director.
Kostadinov, a Central Saint Martins graduate, launched his label at the beginning of 2016 and garnered buzz for his antidecorative, utilitarian approach.
Andrea Austoni, global commercial director at Mackintosh, said the company was drawn to Kostadinov’s aesthetic and innovative methods of constructing garments, which involve countless fittings in his North London studio to achieve functional yet interesting silhouettes.
“Kiko has the ability to merge his own modern vision with the luxury traditions of Mackintosh. We were first drawn to his work because of his innovative pattern cutting and intricate garment construction and look forward to the new contemporary direction he will bring to our brand,” Austoni said.
Kostadinov is looking forward to exploring the brand’s heritage while adding contemporary touches and new categories to the label. He also aims to push its reputation beyond the classic raincoat.

Military Wife Finds A Creative Way To Include Husband In Christmas Card

Husband and father of four Brandon Sistrunk won’t be home for the holidays this year, but that didn’t stop his wife Ashley from making sure they posed for their family Christmas card together.

Brandon is a staff sergeant in the Air Force currently deployed overseas in Iraq. Ashley and their four kids live thousands of miles away in Colorado Springs, Colorado, so she needed to get creative to make the group shot a reality.

Ashley’s mother took a photo of her and the kids, and a military friend of Brandon’s took a picture of him. Ashley then stitched the two images together in Photoshop and shared it with friends on social media. It was picked up by local news station KKTV 11 on Saturday and has since gone viral.

“Having a piece of your heart across the world, fighting for your country. It’s just a whole other level of emotions,” she said

Thankful for a mom that can cook!

Ashley also told KKTV that life as a military wife has been tough on her and the kids. Brandon was deployed during three of the children’s births and was unable to make it home.

“We tell the kids, ‘Yes, other kids have their daddy home right now,’” she said. “But their daddy is out being a superhero, keeping our country safe and that’s important ― that’s an important job.”

On Instagram, Ashley said that the holidays are a particularly difficult time for the family. 

“I hate wanting to wish away a holiday,” she wrote. “Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, but with Brandon gone and the kids begging to have him home on Christmas, it just won’t be the same. I know we are supposed to ‘live for today!’, but I wish I could wake up tomorrow and have it be late January!”

Fortunately, Brandon is set to return home to his family early next year. 

“[The kids] adore him,” Ashley told FOX21. “He will do anything for them. So I miss him actually being able to come home at the end of the day and they yell ‘Daddy!’”

Abloh made the comment during the Apolis’ Speaking Series with Tom Sachs and Barneys New York’s creative ambassador Simon Doonan, who moderated the chat.

Annette Worsley-Taylor, Former Creative Director of London Fashion Week, Dies at 71

LONDON — Annette Worsley-Taylor, a former creative director of London Fashion Week who helped reignite global interest in British fashion, died this week at the age of 71. The cause of her death was lung cancer, a British Fashion Council spokesman said.
Worsley-Taylor was a driving force in establishing London Fashion Week. After launching the New Wave exhibition at London’s Ritz Hotel in 1974, in order to introduce young British designers to the international market, she went on to found London Designer Collections in 1975. After establishing the collections, the executive went on to win funding from the British government’s Department of Trade and Industry, to support a newly formed British Fashion Council. After that, Worsley-Taylor established the London Designer Show in 1990, which the BFC called a “prototype” for London Fashion Week in its current form.
A combination of the seemingly scatty yet surprisingly steely, the tireless Worsley-Taylor was an integral part of the renaissance of London fashion in the early Eighties when the likes of BodyMap, Katharine Hamnett, Betty Jackson and, later, Rifat Özbek and John Galliano put the British capital back on the global fashion map as their shows became must-sees for international retailers. Audemars Piguet Names Claude Emmenegger Creative Director

EMMENEGGER JOINS PIGUET:  Audemars Piguet has named Claude Emmenegger its new creative director.
Emmenegger is replacing Octavio Garcia, whose next projects could not be immediately learned.
Emmenegger has been freelancing with the Swiss watchmaker since 1999, masterminding the creations of Tradition of Excellence models 2, 3 and 4, as well as the brand’s famous Royal Oak series.
He began his career with Longines, followed by Gucci, where he created 23 collections including the G watch, according to the company.
In 2003, he established his own design consulting company, lending his services to more than 40 different brands.
His main goals at Audemars Piguet will be the “development of the women’s category, high tech concepts and new functionalities,” the brand said.

When it comes to building her wardrobe, Aï Bihr certainly has a lot of options. As Steven Alan’s creative director, Bihr has a whole store’s worth of goodies right at her fingertips — and is in the enviable position of being able to actually create exactly the kind of garment she’d like to wear. And if that wasn’t enough to make you wish you were in her shoes, Bihr speaks multiple languages, has lived in Tokyo, Paris, Los Angeles, and New York, holds degrees in both neuroscience and pattern-making. Here, she gives us the scoop on what she wears to work.

Test Market

On a work day, I try to wear mostly Steven Alan because it’s good for me to wear what we’ve made; if we need to improve something or if something’s not working great, then I know it. I love to wear a big Steven Alan shirt — I usually get something a bit oversize. So I’ll wear a men’s extra-large reverse seam in white, with a pair of jeans we’ve made. I also have a lot of old Levi’s because I collect a lot of denim. I love a 501, but I like to buy a big men’s size and then cut the legs so they’re kind of wide and cropped. I go to a lot of vintage stores to hunt for them; when I lived in Paris I went every weekend to look at the flea markets. I’m also a big vintage eyewear collector and have really loved designing the Steven Alan Optical collection.

On my feet, I usually have sneakers or oxfords. Or like, a penny loafer. My whole team knows I’m addicted to these Japanese high tops called Shoes Like Pottery. I wear them constantly, year round. I don’t want to be boring, but I always look the same! Even if there’s a corporate event or I have to make a presentation, I always look the same. I try to stay very consistent and have been very consistent for a long time. I’ve always worn a lot of jumpsuits–whatever brand I go to, I make jumpsuits for them. They’re kind of great because they’re so versatile. You can even tie the sleeves at the waist and they make really great pants that way. I have a nice collection of vintage jumpsuits, some from the Yves Saint Laurent Safari collection, and I’ll wear those tied at the waist or zip them up and belt them. And if I’m wearing a jumpsuit like that I might add a little heeled sandal. Maryam Nassir Zadeh makes beautiful shoes. If I do go to a party and I feel like wearing something a little bit different I’ll put on sandals from Maryam. One of my best friends, Mona, designs A Détacher and she makes really beautiful skirts and dresses. I recently bought an indigo skirt/culotte thing from her. It’s the perfect length and so good for summer parties.

Dress for the Seasons

When the weather is this hot and humid, I love to wear linen and cotton poplin. We have these really great cotton poplin wide trousers from Steven Alan called the Picnic Pant. When you wear a wide-leg trouser like that, it’s nice to wear something small on top. You can’t wear something too big, or else you look like a tent. It’s also a great pant to wear with a linen T-shirt.

In the fall, I’m usually in a suit. I’ll wear a suit jacket and a pair of trousers, with a T-shirt and sneakers. I have a few different jacket styles that I really like–one is a schoolboy that’s a bit smaller; The Row makes a really nice one every year. And then I like a boyfriend notched lapel in tropical wool; it’s actually the first jacket I made for Steven Alan when I joined the company and it’s still my go-to. I also always love to have a peak lapel double-breasted blazer. I think the key to pulling off a suit is–well, first of all you just really have to find the right suit for you. But then you also have to have a more casual element in your accessories or what you’re wearing the suit with, like a T-shirt and sneakers.

Quality Control

When I’m shopping for myself, I always look at the finishing of the garment. I’m looking on the inside, not just the outside, examining the fabric, rubbing it on my neck and doing all the crazy things that designers do. You want to make sure there’s a clean finish–basically, that you don’t see all this thread wrapped around the seam–so that it doesn’t look like things are going to snag. It’s good to pay attention to these kinds of things, because they’re going to dictate the longevity of the garment. And really touch the fabric. Customers aren’t stupid, they know when they’re feeling good fabric. This is why we choose to use really good fabric at Steven Alan, because our customers are smart. They know they’re not getting garbage from us. That’s one thing I’m really proud of: There’s no room for poor quality. I’m really proud to say that more than 90 percent of the things I make are made in New York. And if it’s not made here, it’s made at the best factory in Japan.

Daydream about a perfect day at some point in the future. Where would you live? What would you have around you? Who would you have around you? What would you be doing? The richer the details, the more it will help you align your actions with what will help you make that daydream a reality.

Daydream about a perfect day at work. What would you be doing? What would your job title be? Who would be around you? How would you be interacting with customers? How much would you make?

Daydream about new relationships. Who would it be? How would you meet them? What would you ask them? What would you hope to learn? How would they influence you?

Daydream about traveling. Where would you go? What would you do? How long would you be there? Who would you take with you?

Daydream about making a change in the world. What’s missing? It can be something simple or something complex; something in your hometown, or something that would impact the entire world.

Daydream with unlimited resources. We tend to confine our daydreams to things we already have or have easy access to. What if money and resources were endless? What if you could do anything?

Daydream about being famous. What could you do that would make you famous? What would you invent? What would you create? What would they write in a biography about you long after you are gone?

Learning to control your daydreams is only half of the exercise; from there take action. You’ll be amazed at all you can achieve, simply from a little daydreaming.

This Creative Bride And Groom Had A Bunch Of Puppets Officiate Their Wedding

Los Angeles couple Tammy Caplan and Joe Gold are actors, writers and independent filmmakers. Needless to say, they both share a colorful imagination.

So when the couple of 15 years tied the knot in April 2015, they let those imaginations run wild and opted to surprise guests by having puppets officiate the wedding ceremony. Six puppets to be exact — a main officiant, a rabbi, a judge, a ring bear, a captain and a wedding crasher.

The bride and groom wrote the script for the puppets together. Caplan told The Huffington Post that they both were fans of “Sesame Street” and the Muppets growing up.

“Joe and I wrote the ceremony fairly quickly,” she said. “After we talked out what we wanted to do, the first draft took about a day. It was a blast to write! We’ve written several scripts together, but this was one of the most fun writing projects.”

The couple worked with the Puppet School of Los Angeles to make their puppet officiant dreams a reality.

“Our parents kept asking us, ‘Who’s the officiant?’ and we said, ‘It’s a secret,'” Caplan told HuffPost. “We were a little nervous they wouldn’t like the idea but they loved it. The guests had tons of fun which was exactly what we wanted for our wedding.”

After the ceremony, the puppeteers walked around with their puppets and interacted with the wedding guests. Later during the breakfast reception, guests were invited to make their very own puppets. And at the end of the day, the couple hosted a special dance where everyone brought their puppets onto the dance floor.

DKNY Could Be Looking for a New Creative Director

DKNY CREATIVE HEAD: Could DKNY be looking for a new creative director? Industry sources say a search is on for a person to head the design team at the label, which is owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Caroline Brown, chief executive officer of Donna Karan International, is said to be tapping into the young designer market to come up with a candidate for the role. Public School, Prabal Gurung and Andrea Lieberman, designer of A.L.C., are among the names that have been bandied about. Lieberman had no comment, as did Gurung and a spokeswoman for DKI. Asked whether he was considering the position, Maxwell Osborne, design partners with Dao-Yi Chow in Public School, said, “not at this moment,” adding that they have enough going on with their own line. Jane Chung is the longtime executive vice president of design at DKNY.

According to market sources, Schiaparelli is in talks with Bertrand Guyon, a seasoned couture designer currently at Valentino. Think About It: A Creative Community for Peace

The Creative Community for Peace was born officially with a full-page ad in the New York Times calling the “arts (to be) used to build bridges of peace” in Israel and Palestine, and perhaps the world.

In creating art, consciously or not, artists are attempting to communicate at a powerful emotional level to those within their own culture. The best work transcends its cultural matrix and speaks directly to our common humanity.

Already, the world is so inextricably interconnected that cultural and economic isolationism is unthinkable, even if it were desirable. But more needs to done, and perhaps the most effective thing that can be done is to aggressively promote multicultural understanding. By doing so, perhaps, we can create the world community reflective of the world economy in the making.

Given the ubiquitous nature of the worldwide web, we can use the new technologies — with their powerful capacity for shaping and delivering human interchange — as virtual bridges across the vast distances separating cultures.

Over the last few decades we were witness to a basic change in our modern day world: globalization, the rise the rebirth of the region state, and the resurgence of age old hostilities — racial, tribal and religious strife — that lay just beneath the surface for the last 100 years.

Globalization — something still not understood but feared — has forced us to think about the rest of the world, not just ourselves. For globalization to work, as former President Bill Clinton has observed, we need to be sensitive to the social and political values nation to nation as well as the economic opportunities.

As Thomas Friedman observed in his book of the same name, suddenly The World is Flat.

By the turn of the century and the onset of a new millennium, the Internet changed the way the world communicated with one another around the world, as it changed the structure of the world economy. The worldwide web wasn’t invented until the late 1990s but by the year 2000, the net seemed to be growing at 15% per month worldwide.

Everybody is now communicating with everyone else; every person, every community is competing with every other… and in the process, the question is being raised about the future of the world, and of the current geopolitical order.

Friedman calls it Globalization 3.0

While there are countless disciplines, which might reasonably serve as a means to understanding culture, such as history, sociology, mathematics, and science, only art lends itself to the full range of experiential capabilities offered by the new technologies.

This is why art serves so superbly as a universal language — as a means toward understanding the history, culture, and values of other peoples. As human beings build virtual bridges into unknown cultural territory — and there learn, share dreams, and creatively work together–mankind will know itself as citizens of a rich and truly global society. And if citizens of a global society are to live in peace, goods, services, and technical information are exchanged, but values and visions, as well.

It is this new technological marvel that has made the world smaller that compels worldwide debate and discussion; and provides the threshold for the world’s greatest assets of art and culture to become the glue for discussion about a New World Community. Everybody it seems has an APP for almost every human endeavor. Maybe, America — in partnership with other governments and institutions around the world — should create the cultural databases that truly bring people together.
