Hussein Chalayan, Peter Saville Accuse Fashion Corporates of Crushing Creativity

LONDON — How is technology impacting creativity, and what does it really take to disrupt an industry that’s reaching saturation point?
Frieze Academy brought together a series of creatives — ranging from Kim Jones and Hussein Chalayan, to graphics expert Peter Saville and sound designer Michel Gaubert — to argue those questions in a series of talks held at the Royal Academy of Arts on Friday.
Chalayan, one of the first designers to incorporate technology into his work and present moving garments in his famous “Geotropics” collection in 1999, said technology’s impact on the arts hasn’t necessarily been a good thing.
He described wearables as “tacky” and highlighted the growing interest of handcrafted techniques: “It’s such a cliché to be chasing 3-D printing now. I liked it at the beginning, but not anymore, it no longer feels expensive somehow,” Chalayan said.
He also touched on the influence of the Internet and social media, talking about the “sense of entitlement,” that the easy access to data has created in younger generations.
“Are you really learning by Googling something?” he said, adding that social media and the rise of fashion conglomerates have both dampened creativity. Chalayan said  there is less room today to speak up, take risks and

Driver Survives Metal Pipe Crushing His Van on the Highway: ‘Another Foot to the Left and He Would Be Dead’

An Orlando driver is lucky to be alive.

On Saturday morning, a Mack truck driver hauling scrap metal was driving westbound on the State Road 528 exit to Interstate 4 when he lost control of his truck, struck the guardrail and overturned.

As the truck tipped over, a large metal pipe tumbled off the overpass and landed on top of 36-year-old Jesus Armando Escobar’s Pontiac van, crushing it.

“Another foot to the left and he would be dead,” Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes tells PEOPLE. “He had no idea. He didn’t see it coming. It came down right in the middle of his van. It is miraculous he didn’t get more than a scratch on his face.”

Montes says Escobar was able to walk out of the van on his own. “He wasn’t trapped or anything,” she says.

Montes is thankful there wasn’t anyone in the passenger seat. “If there had been any passenger that passenger would have been dead,” she says.

Escobar was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and has since been released.

The truck driver, 33-year-old Antonio Santiago Wharton, was uninjured and ticketed for careless driving.

Montes say the ramp has been the site of numerous accidents and fatalities.

“We have had so many crashes there,” she says. ” They take the ramp too fast, hit the guardrail and end up overturning. We have had a couple of fatalities from semis doing that.”

Luckily, not this time.

“I think everybody is just amazed,” says Montes. “In my 23 years this is in the top 3 when you look at a crash and someone survives.”

People Are Crushing On This Pakistani Doctor Who Needs A Room In New York City

Meet Rehan Munir. He’s a 26-year-old med school grad from Pakistan who also happens to be a model.

Here’s Munir in a TV commercial for Hush Puppies Pakistan.

Talk about a well-rounded guy, right?

Munir told HuffPost he hopes to do rotations in various hospitals across the U.S. to gain experience. He’s currently looking for housing in New York City, though ― a search he called “quite the ride.”

A post shared by Rehan Munir (@rehanmunir) on

Some of Munir’s New York-based friends recommended he post an ad on Gypsy Housing, a closed Facebook group for people looking for housing and roommates, so earlier this month, Munir did just that.

“I’m Rehan and I’m looking to rent a furnished room on the Upper East Side, Upper West Side or Midtown Manhattan,” the post read

“I’m professional, friendly and easy to live with,” he added. “Most of all, cleanliness is of utmost priority to me. Please let me know if you have any leads.”

In response, the 26-year-old got way more than housing offers:

“You can totally find a room for $ 800! Just will have more than a few roomies, so be warned,” one woman wrote. “Also, and I apologize if this is inappropriate, but umm … boyyyy you fine!”

Others got real bold and straight-up proposed to Munir:

The post had 363 “likes” at last count and got plenty of media attention. Munir said he never expected such an “enthusiastic” response when he wrote the listing.

“It was pretty overwhelming,” he told HuffPost. “I wrote it and the next day I wake up and I see my post has been inundated with messages and it’s reached a number of blogs locally and internationally. I found it hilarious! The Internet is really an unpredictable place.”

Though people have been “very helpful and kind” in helping Munir look for a room, he’s still mulling over his housing options.

And to answer the question on seemingly everyone’s minds: Yes, your boy is single.

“I’m single but trying to focus on my career at the moment,” he told HuffPost.

Ryan Reynolds’ Friend Tried To Sell Photos Of Baby James, And It Was Crushing

Ryan Reynolds experienced a betrayal of a particularly hurtful kind after the birth of his daughter, James.

“A guy that I’d known for my whole life, one of my closest friends growing up, he had been shopping pictures of my baby around,” Reynolds told GQ for the magazine’s latest issue. “I kind of got in front of it, which is good. But it was a slightly dark period. A bad couple of weeks.”

The “guy” was a close friend of Reynolds who he has known for 25 years.

“It was like a death. It was like one of those devastating things to find out,” he said, adding that the person did it for the money and didn’t think he’d get caught. “It was, like, so kind of shocking. There isn’t really a conversation to have. It’s just, ‘Oh, well, now I’m never going to see you or talk to you again, unfortunately.’ That’s kind of how it worked out.”

Fatherhood has been a life-changer for the “Deadpool” star, who welcomed James with wife Blake Lively last December.

“I’ve learned that an inordinate amount of clichés are completely true,” he added. “Like, there is this kid here that I would walk through fire for. Or, maybe not fire. Like, a very hot pavement, I’d walk through. A shag rug.”
