Ewert Departure Seen as His Decision, but Firm Ready for Next Chapter

It was Doug Ewert’s choice to leave Tailored Brands, but his departure as chief executive officer is also seen as an opportunity to get some fresh blood into the company.
That was the consensus of the men’s wear community on Wednesday as they continued to digest the surprise news late Tuesday that the longtime leader of the Fremont, Calif.-based company would be exiting at the end of September. Ewert, 54, said after the market closed on Tuesday that he would be retiring after a 23-year career with the men’s wear retailer.
Wall Street was apparently not rattled by the news since the company’s stock rose 4 percent Wednesday to close at $ 23.39.
On Wednesday, Ewert told WWD he would be open to providing more details about his decision and future plans after the company’s earnings are released on Sept. 12.
Coincidentally, the news of Ewert’s impending departure came at the same time Bruce Thorn, president and chief operating officer, said he too would be leaving Tailored Brands. Thorn, 51, has been named president and ceo of Big Lots Inc. He will assume that role at the end of September.
Once both Ewert and Thorn are gone next month, that leaves Tailored Brands without its two

People Are Loving Project Runway’s Decision to Use Models up to Size 22

Project Runway made a major change this season by including models of all sizes, and Twitter can’t get enough of it.

On Thursday, season 16 of the popular fashion competition series premiered on Lifetime and came with a major twist for designers: Rather than spending all season working with more traditional fashion models, the team would be working with models with a range of body types – from size 2 to 22.

“I believe we should have done already years and years and years ago,” Klum told Entertainment Tonight ahead of the premiere, “So I’m happy though that now this season, we’re starting.”

“This is the real world. Not everyone is, you know, runway figure or what the runway figure used to be,” she added. “You have to dress real people, and real people come in different sizes: short, tall, more voluptuous, skinny. There is many of us, and so a real designer needs to know how to do that. So get with it.”

The designers appeared to be excited about the switch (even if it did throw them off a bit). But users on Twitter were all-around supportive, praising the show for embracing a wider view of the industry.

“I’m so proud that Project Runway is finally doing this,” wrote one user. “Should have been done many years ago. Lovin’ it!!!!!! #loveprojectrunway.”

“Yasss to Project Runway for including so many different types of models and designers!!” tweeted another.

While this is the first time that  Project Runway is requiring designers to use models of different sizes, it’s not the only time that a clothing collection from the television show went beyond the traditional “runway figure” size.

Season 14 winner, Ashley Nell Tipton, designed her final collection for curvy women.

“This was the opportunity that I was given to showcase who I really am as a designer,” Tipton told PEOPLE at the time. “I had to show that this is what I design, and this is what I know.”

Project Runway airs Thursdays (8 p.m. ET) on Lifetime.

Justin Bieber Focusing on ‘Being Spiritual and Attending Church’ After ‘Disappointing’ Decision to Cancel Tour: Source

Justin Bieber is taking some time to love himself.

On Monday, a rep for the singer, 23, revealed the singer was canceling the remaining dates of his Purpose World Tour “due to unforeseen circumstances“; following the announcement, Beliebers around the world unleashed tweets voicing their frustration.

Now, a friend of Bieber is explaining why the “Sorry” singer needed a break from his grueling schedule on the road.

“He didn’t feel like he could give the rest of the tour as much energy as his fans deserve,” says the friend of Bieber’s decision to call it quits. “He is a perfectionist and didn’t want to disappoint fans with some half-ass performance. He thinks his fans deserve and should expect the same performance at the end of the tour as in the beginning. He just didn’t have that passion right now. He is truly exhausted.”

Concurs another insider: “He checked out. It was a long, long run for him.”

Bieber toured his Grammy-nominated Purpose album for about 18 months before pulling the plug.

“It’s a mental exhaustion that very few people understand,” adds the friend. “It seems very fair, although understandably disappointing to his fans, that he canceled the rest of the tour. It’s a mature way of saying, ‘Sorry, I need to focus on my own health for a bit.’ It wasn’t an easy decision for him. He has had this feeling before though and knows he has to just take a break from performing. It doesn’t mean he will never tour again — of course he will. He loves touring. Let the guy rest, and he will come back even better.”

As for how Bieber is spending his down-time these days?

“Being more spiritual and attending church is how he finds his energy and focus again,” adds the friend of the singer, who is a member of New York City’s star-studded Hillsong Church congregation.

Indeed, a source previously told PEOPLE, “He’s been going to church and has been hanging out with his church crew.”

Per the initial press release from Bieber’s rep: “Justin Bieber will cancel the remainder of the Purpose World Tour concerts. Justin loves his fans and hates to disappoint them. He thanks his fans for the incredible experience of the Purpose World Tour over last 18 months. He is grateful and honored to have shared that experience with his cast and crew for over 150 successful shows across six continents during this run. However, after careful consideration, he has decided he will not be performing any further dates. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.”

Jerry Seinfeld Defends His Decision Not To Give Kesha That Hug

Jerry Seinfeld seemed to upset a bunch of young people earlier this week when he opted out of Kesha’s request for a hug at the National Night of Laughter and Song.

“I’m Kesha. I love you so much,” she said. “Can I give you a hug?”

“No thanks,” Seinfeld repeatedly said, while backing away from the singer with an increasingly concerned look on his face.

Seinfeld found out exactly who Kesha is soon after she left. But that doesn’t mean he thinks he made the wrong call. In a conversation with Extra, he defended his decision not to give Kesha that hug.

“I was right in the middle of an interview, it was a little off.” he continued. “I don’t hug a total stranger. I have to meet someone. Say hello. I gotta start somewhere.”

“I’m sure I would’ve liked her, but I need to know who are you,” he added.

It turns out, Seinfeld and Kesha made nice off camera soon after their awkward exchange. “She was very nice about it, we laughed about it,” he said.

Still, they didn’t have a hug then either.

Kanye’s Decision to Show Disrupts Designers’ Plans

Kanye West’s show, a last-minute addition to New York Fashion Week on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at noon, is causing headaches for at least one fashion designer. Stephen Colbert Destroys Dissenting Justices In Same-Sex Marriage Decision

We have a feeling his monologues are going to be pretty great.

Not even into his “Late Show” tenure yet, new host Stephen Colbert can’t wait to dig into the current events and find the funny.

With the landmark 5-4 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday allowing same-sex couples to legally marry in all 50 states, Colbert justifiably tore into the four dissenting justices.

As for which of the judges wrote the dissenting opinion, Colbert said, “I’ll let you guess which ones.” He then broke into a Frankenstein monster impression with an “ARGH, GAY BAD!” thrown in for good measure.

The four judges voting against legalization were Justice Antonin Scalia (gasp!), Chief Justice John Roberts (no!), Justice Clarence Thomas (shock!) and Justice Samuel Alito (what?!).

But Colbert insists the ruling is not great for everyone: “My condolences to gays with commitment issues who are asking their partner IF WE CAN JUST PLEASE TALK ABOUT THIS WHEN I GET HOME FROM WORK TODAY.”

In the end though, it’s great news, even if it took longer than it should have.

“It’s hard to believe that gay Americans achieved full constitutional personhood just five years after corporations did,” said Colbert.

The SCOTUS Decision That’s Really Good For Mental Health (Hint: It’s Not Obamacare)

The Supreme Court of the United States made a historic ruling on same-sex marriage on Friday, voting 5 to 4 in favor of legalizing all unions. Not only does this allow everyone to marry the person they love, regardless of sexual orientation, but it’s also a step forward for mental health in a community that’s often stigmatized.

The SCOTUS decision is a leap in the right direction — especially when it comes to boosting the mental health of LGBT individuals.

According to the American Psychological Association, marriage boosts psychosocial and mental health due to the moral, social and even economic support extended to married couples in our society — and denial of those rights may impose certain risks when it comes to well-being. A 2012 University of California, Los Angeles study found that psychological distress is lower among gay, lesbian and bisexual couples who are allowed to be legally married, compared with those in unions that are not legally recognized.

In other words, science suggests that letting people marry who they want boosts mental and maybe even physical health.

The UCLA study isn’t the only evidence that champions legalized same-sex marriage for this reason. Around 2004, when state bans on same-sex marriage started to peak, the National Institutes of Mental Health conducted a survey that examined respondents’ mental health. Results showed gay, lesbian or bisexual individuals who lived in states where their unions were banned experienced a notable increase in psychiatric disorders, NPR reported, including mood disorders and alcohol-use disorder.

Additionally, when same-sex marriage laws passed in Massachusetts in 2003, research found that gay men experienced fewer stress-related disorders and lower health care use, suggesting a potential link between the two events.

Social exclusion may also take a toll on mental health, studies show, something the LGBT community has been all too familiar with when it comes to marriage. “It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves,” Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the majority opinion on the ruling. “Their hope is to not be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions.”

Fundamentally, love of all kinds contributes to several health perks, including a healthier heart, better mood and even improved longevity. While love doesn’t require marriage, a celebration of love can be viewed as a celebration of this kind of health. Ruling in favor of same-sex marriage also rules in favor of a happy, healthy mind by creating a more inclusive community free from isolation — and that’s something we can all support.

Days after Jenner revealed she has temporary lip fillers, Kardashian told “Access Hollywood” she stands by her sister’s decision.

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Murders Hung Over ‘The Interview’ Decision

LOS ANGELES (AP) — When a group claiming credit for the hacking of Sony Pictures Entertainment threated violence against theaters showing “The Interview” earlier this week, the fate of the movie’s big-screen life was all but sealed.

Even though law enforcement didn’t deem the threats of violence credible at the time, theater owners and Sony undoubtedly considered the 2012 massacre of a dozen people in a Colorado movie theater. That attack came without warning, and at the time there was no precedent for such mass violence against a U.S. movie audience. The theater’s owner contends it could not have foreseen the bloodshed, but it still faces 20 lawsuits over the mass shootings and survivors and victims’ families asserting more should have been done to protect those who went to see a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Experts say the defense used by Cinemark Holdings, Inc couldn’t be used if violence broke out at a showing of “The Interview.”

“It wasn’t worth the risk,” said Eric Wold, a movie exhibitor analyst with B. Riley & Co.

Despite the legal liability, at least one notable lawyer disagrees with the decision to cancel “The Interview.” President Barack Obama said Friday that it was a mistake for Sony to scrap the film, and he wished executives had consulted with him first.

“We cannot have a society in which some dictatorship someplace can start imposing censorship,” Obama said.

Some Hollywood notables, including actors Rob Lowe, Steve Carrell and director Michael Moore, have also criticized Sony’s decision.

Diplomatic and creative considerations aside, scrapping “The Interview” was not a huge financial consideration for theater owners, who would ultimately be responsible for any lawsuits over violence. The film, starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, was expected to account for less than two percent of fourth quarter earnings for movie theaters, Wold said.

Due to digital projections, theater owners can quickly re-program their screens to show other movies, such as new releases “The Hobbit 3” or “Night at the Museum.” ”It’s the press of a button,” Wold said.

The alternative could have been serious injuries to moviegoers as well as multiple lawsuits if the group calling itself the Guardians of Peace, or a copycat, attacked a cinema, said Jonathan Handel, a lawyer and professor at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.

“That’s a lot of liability hanging over the theater chain,” Handel said.

He noted that mall owners and other studios had pressured Sony to cancel the Christmas Day release of “The Interview,” which stars Seth Rogen and James Franco. “They don’t want the movie-going experience on Christmas Day to resemble check in at LAX,” he said.

The film features an assassination plot against North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the nation has denounced the movie. The FBI said Friday that it had determined North Korea was responsible for the hacking of Sony’s servers, which resulted in the theft of unreleased films, scripts, financial and medical information on employees and other corporate data.

It was only a matter of hours after hackers threatened massive violence against any theater showing “The Interview” that exhibitors started dropping the film. And no wonder.

“If, God forbid, something happened, they’re the ones who would be responsible for any lack of security or decisions that were made that led to the incident,” said entertainment attorney Uri Fleming of the firm Kleinberg Lange Cuddy & Carlo.

Sony cited the theater owners’ decision to drop the film as the reason for its pulling of the movie.

“Without theaters, we could not release it in the theaters on Christmas Day. We had no choice,” the company wrote in a statement. Sony said it was looking for alternative distribution channels for the film.

It remains unclear how a jury will perceive the case against Cinemark, which operated the Aurora, Colo., theater that James Holmes attacked in July 2012 during a midnight screening of the final installment of the latest Batman trilogy.

In court filings, lawyers for victims of the shooting have noted that Cinemark deployed extra security at some of its midnight “Dark Knight Rises” screenings and had employed a security firm to assess the risk of a drug cartel attacking a theater along the U.S.-Mexico border.

In an August ruling rejecting a motion by Cinemark to throw out the Aurora victims’ suits, U.S. District Court Judge R. Brooke Jackson wrote that whether the company could have been expected to deploy extra security without a threat against its theaters “is not an easy question to answer.”

However, the judge noted that moviegoers are especially vulnerable to attack.

“Although theaters had theretofore been spared a mass shooting incident, the patrons of a movie theater are, perhaps even more than students in a school or shoppers in a mall, ‘sitting ducks,'” Jackson wrote.

Fleming, the entertainment attorney, said Sony and the theater chains are unlikely to face any significant repercussions from pulling “The Interview.”

“Business relationships are the glue that bind (Hollywood),” he said.

Hollywood Slams Decision To Cancel ‘The Interview’

(Reuters) – Hollywood filmmakers and actors voiced outrage on Wednesday after Sony Pictures pulled the release of North Korea parody “The Interview,” following threats from hackers who waged a massive cyberattack on the movie studio.

Actors Ben Stiller, Steve Carell, Rob Lowe, late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and filmmaker Judd Apatow, all friends of “The Interview” stars Seth Rogen and James Franco, criticized the decision made by movie theaters and Sony.

Lowe, who has a cameo in the film, tweeted “Wow. Everyone caved. The hackers won. An utter and complete victory for them.”

Raunchy satire “The Interview” follows a hapless TV host (Franco) and producer (Rogen) who score an interview with the elusive North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and are recruited by the CIA to assassinate him.

Sony Pictures canceled the film’s Dec. 25 release as major U.S. theater chains decided to postpone screenings after hackers forced an apparently unprecedented change of plans for a major movie release.

Kimmel, writing on Twitter, called the decision “an un-American act of cowardice that validates terrorist actions and sets a terrifying precedent.”

Stiller, who directed and starred in 2001’s “Zoolander”, about a male fashion model brainwashed to assassinate a fictional prime minister of Malaysia, called “The Interview” cancellation “a threat to freedom of expression.”

Carell, who has starred alongside Rogen in numerous comedies, said “Sad day for creative expression,” with the hashtag #feareatsthesoul.

Both Carell and Stiller also tweeted pictures of Charlie Chaplin playing his Adolf Hitler parody in 1940 film “The Great Dictator.”

Franco and Rogen, who directed, produced and wrote “The Interview” with filmmaking partner Evan Goldberg, did not make any public statements on Wednesday.

A U.S. government source said investigators had determined North Korea was behind last month’s cyber attack on Sony Corp’s movie studio, leaking documents that drew global headlines.

One Texas cinema chain, Alamo Drafthouse, said early on Wednesday it planned to show “The Interview”, even as other theaters bailed.

When Sony pulled “The Interview,” the chain said it would screen at its Dallas-Fort Worth theater the 2004 puppet-comedy “Team America: World Police” in which a U.S. paramilitary force tries to foil a plot by then-North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.

Sony said it had no plans to release “The Interview” on DVD, video-on-demand or online streaming platforms, despite support of the idea from fans on social media.

She witnessed his barbaric, brutal and torturous ways of how he acquires orphaned children. How he forces his captives to live in horrid conditions and what happens when he pillages a village. She sees how he mentally prepares and challenges young boys to become the best soldiers in his command through elimination tournaments, and how he trains and molds young girls to bring the best value on the black market for his efforts. Her heart aches for those who suffer the pain and destruction he leaves in his wake. But the worst part of what she witnesses is how he uses and abuses her best friend and what happens to the Caucasians girls before entering the world of the black market. How is she supposed to accomplish such a feat after seeing such heinous crimes?

Zondervan 06909X All In – You Are One Decision Away From A Totally Different Life

The Gospel costs nothing. You can't earn it or buy it. It can only be received as a free gift compliments of God's grace. It doesn't cost anything but it demands everything. It demands that we go 'all in ' a term that simply means placing all that you have into God's hands. Pushing it all in. And that's where we get stuck—spiritual no man's land. We're afraid that if we go all in that we might miss out on what this life has to offer. It's not true. The only thing you'll miss out on is everything God has to offer. And the good news is this – if you don't hold out on God God won't hold out on you. Readers will find Batterson's writing filled with his customary vivid contemporary illustrations as well as biblical characters like Shamgar and Elisha and Jonathan and. Judas.

No one has ever sacrificed anything for God. If you always get back more than you gave up have you sacrificed anything at all? The eternal reward always outweighs the temporal sacrifice. At the end of the day our greatest regret will be whatever we didn't gives back to God. What we didn't push back across the table to Him. Eternity will reveal that holding out is losing out.

The message of All In is simple: if Jesus is not Lord of all then Jesus is not Lord at all. It's all or nothing. It's now or never. Kneeling at the foot of cross of Christ and surrendering to His Lordship is a radical act of dethroning yourself and enthroning Christ as King. It's also an act of disowning yourself. Nothing belongs to you. Not even you.

Batterson writes "For many years I thought I was following Jesus. I wasn't. I had invited Jesus to follow me. I call it inverted Christianity. And it's a subtle form of selfishness that masquerades as spirituality. That's when I sold out and bought in. When did we start believing that the gospel is an insurance plan?
