Neiman Marcus Sells ‘Destroyed’ Designer Sneakers For $1,425

We’ve all seen “distressed” jeans before, but this “destroyed” sneaker takes shabby chic to a whole new level.

Neiman Marcus is selling $ 1,425 “Future Destroyed High-Top Sneakers” from luxury designer Maison Margiela on its website, and it the shoes completely live up to their name. The men’s sneakers are so mangled and dirty, they look like they previously moonlighted as a chew toy for dogs.

Considering Maison Margiela outfitted Katy Perry in this design for the Met Gala, the shoes are right in line with the house’s avant garde-inspired style:

The description for the shoe is hilarious, calling it “highly distressed.” But look at all of its features!

  • Leather and textile upper
  • Round toe
  • Lace-up front with side lace guards
  • Logo patch at tongue
  • Padded collar
  • Cushioned heel counter
  • Rubber outsole

Who needs fresh kicks when these distressed ones have a cool patch and a cushioned heel? Hurry if you’d like to buy a pair, as it appears there are only two sizes left.

If those shoes aren’t quite your style, Maison Margiela is also offering another interesting pair of shoes, called the Pollock Paint-Splatter sneaker. Though they sort of look like a pigeon Jackson Pollock-ed on them, they’re “only” $ 595.

If you’re interested in purchasing any of the shoes, we suggest wearing them with these $ 425 Nordstrom jeans that are covered in fake mud OR these delightful mom jeans with clear plastic kneecaps

How Debbie Reynolds And Elizabeth Taylor’s Tabloid Scandal Almost Destroyed Their Friendship

Debbie Reynolds is best known as the song-and-dance whiz who dazzled us in “Singin’ on the Rain,” “The Tender Trap” and “The Unsinkable Molly Brown.” The woman never stopped working. New generations were introduced to her through “Will & Grace,” “Halloweentown,” “Behind the Candelabra” and a wealth of other roles.

Reynolds, who died Wednesday at age 84, was also a gossip fixture thanks to her friendship with the high priestess of the tabloids, Elizabeth Taylor. The actresses became fast friends circa 1950 when they met at MGM, the studio responsible for releasing many of Reynolds’ most famous musicals. By that point, Taylor had become an established teen star, thanks to breakthrough roles in “National Velvet,” “A Date with Judy” and “Father of the Bride.”

“We went to school together on the lot, when she was in between films,” Reynolds reportedly told People magazine in 2015. “I was just a beginner, and she and I were not in any manner alike, but we got along very well because I was in awe of going to school with Elizabeth Taylor. And if anyone said they weren’t, then they were lying. Or blind.”

Taylor and Reynolds shared something else in common: They both had famous husbands. In fact, they were Old Hollywood’s primo glamour couples. Reynolds married singer Eddie Fisher in 1955, and they had two children ― son Todd Fisher and daughter Carrie Fisher, who also died this week. Taylor began her third marriage, to producer Mike Todd, in 1957. Fisher was Todd’s best man, and Reynolds was Taylor’s matron of honor.

As the legend goes, everything went swimmingly for both couples ― until Todd’s private plane crashed in 1958. The producer died, and Fisher found himself comforting Todd’s widow, so much so that Taylor took a liking to him. She snatched him away from Reynolds, and the love triangle became a national sensation. Fisher and Taylor married in 1959, leaving Reynolds to raise her two children as a single mother. In 1964, Taylor left Fisher for her fifth husband, “Cleopatra” co-star Richard Burton. (Reynolds also remarried, in 1960.)

“I was the last to find out about the affair,” Reynolds told The Daily Mail in 2010. “There had been hints in the papers and I had noticed that when I turned up at functions or parties on my own my friends were whispering. Although I didn’t want to find out the truth, I had to face up to it. Even so, it was a great shock to find them together. It left me shattered.”

Reynolds also told The Daily Mail she was a virgin upon marrying Fisher. Raised in a strict religious household, she didn’t believe in divorce. But Taylor and Fisher told Reynolds she was “keeping them and true love apart,” so she backed down.

Taylor and Reynolds patched things up in 1966 when they encountered each other on the same ocean liner. “So I sent a note to her room and she sent a note back to mine saying that we should have dinner and get this over with and have a good time,” Reynolds told PopEater in 2011, according to The Hollywood Reporter

In 2001, they co-starred with Shirley MacLaine and Joan Collins in the television movie “These Old Broads,” co-written by Carrie Fisher.

Sacred Statues Destroyed By The Taliban Return As Ghostly Projections

A pair of sacred statues that the Taliban destroyed in Afghanistan have been recreated by enormous 3-D light projections.

The Sunni Muslim Taliban forces blew up the Buddha statues in March 2001 as an act of religious terror. Leader Mullah Omar declared that they were false idols and forced local workers to blow them up. The statues were carved into cliffs in Afghanistan’s Bamiyan Valley, a World Heritage Site, about 1,500 years ago, and have lay in rubble for more than a decade.

Chinese documentarians Janson Yu and Liyan Hu created huge projections of the statues over the weekend, according to The Atlantic. They journeyed to the Bamiyan Valley after UNESCO and the Afghan government gave them permission to debut their work.

This photo taken on June 7, 2015, shows the projected image of a Buddha statue in the Bamiyan Valley.

The ghostly 3-D light projections filled the one hundred-foot high cutouts in the mountains where the original stone statues once stood. Over 150 people watched the spectacle, The Atlantic reported.

There was an international outcry after the Buddha statues were demolished, but UNESCO, archaeologists and the Afghan government haven’t been able to agree on whether the statues should be restored.

Josh Duggar Records Destroyed By Arkansas Police At Judge’s Request

Police in Arkansas have destroyed records detailing the investigation into sexual abuse allegations against TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” star Josh Duggar.

“The judge ordered us yesterday to expunge that record,” Springdale Police spokesman Scott Lewis told The Associated Press on Friday. “As far as the Springdale Police Department is concerned this report doesn’t exist.”

Lewis also told the AP that these types of records are usually kept indefinitely.

A 2006 police report, which was obtained by In Touch before its destruction, indicates that family patriarch Jim Bob Duggar knew as early as 2002 that Josh Duggar — who was 14 at the time — was accused of sexually abusing an underage girl. The teen was ultimately accused of inappropriately touching five underage girls, some of whom were his sisters, between 2002 and 2003.

Police did not find out about the allegations until 2006, when they were tipped off to a letter discussing the incidents, the AP reports. A family friend had lent another person a book, and the letter was stuck inside.

The police report obtained by In Touch indicates Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar told police in 2006 that they had disciplined their son themselves.

The couple allegedly said that they sent Josh Duggar to a “Christian program” that “consisted of physical hard work and counseling.” Michelle Duggar later admitted that they actually just sent him to live with a family friend to help with a home remodeling business, according to In Touch.

Both Josh Duggar, now 27, and his parents acknowledged the incidents and publicly apologized in Facebook posts on Thursday.

TLC pulled all airings of “19 Kids and Counting” from its lineup the day after Duggar admitted the allegations were true.

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee voiced his support for the judge’s decision to destroy the records in a Facebook post Friday. “There was no consideration of the fact that the victims wanted this to be left in the past and ultimately a judge had the information on file destroyed — not to protect Josh, but the innocent victims,” Huckabee wrote.

The Duggar family has “a long and active history of political advocacy for social conservative causes,” CNN noted. Josh Duggar resigned from his position at the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian group and lobbying organization, on Thursday. According to the AP, Duggar was previously “a public face” of the group.
