Diane von Furstenberg Receives International Rescue Committee Freedom Award

Diane von Furstenberg was recognized by the International Rescue Committee on Thursday evening with the organization’s Freedom Award at its annual gala, the Rescue Dinner. The designer visited refugees in June at the IRC’s offices in Alexandria, Greece, where she met IRC staff members and Syrian refugees, who were recovering from traumas experienced on their journeys while trying to reunite with their families in Northern Europe.
Earlier this week, von Furstenberg visited the New York Resettlement Office to participate in a refugee business development workshop, where she met with a Congolese woman who is committed to starting an ice cream business.
The IRC notes they award the Freedom Award to “individuals who have made extraordinary contributions in support of refugees, and who have championed the cause of liberty, individual freedom and dignity. Diane von Furstenberg, a legend in the fashion industry, is a dedicated philanthropist and an outspoken advocate for vulnerable people.”
It has previously been awarded to the likes of Michael Bloomberg, Sen. John McCain, George Soros, Kofi Annan, Madeleine Albright and Winston Churchill.

Diane von Furstenberg RTW Fall 2018

Joie de vivre is definitely a pillar of the DVF brand, as Diane von Furstenberg herself highlighted during an appointment at her Meatpacking District headquarters, where she presented the label’s fall collection along with newly appointed chief design officer and vice president, creative, Nathan Jenden. In January, the British designer returned to the New York-based brand, where he had worked for 10 years, until 2011. His deep knowledge of the fashion house enabled him to develop a full collection in only four weeks.
The results were not affected by the rush. Jenden didn’t crack under deadline, and designed a compelling, rich lineup perfectly reflecting the brand’s hyper feminine, lively spirit.
Sixties’ and Seventies’ references echoed in the collection and influenced some of the silhouettes and prints, though they blended seamlessly into a smart, contemporary, around-the-clock wardrobe.
A leopard jacket was layered over a multicolor striped turtleneck sweater and paired with pleated pants for a chic, urban day look, while a posh take on the classic tracksuit was offered via a long-sleeve top matched with coordinated flared pants, all worked in a graphic pattern with a vintage feel.
DVF’s signature wrap dresses were rendered in a wide range of options, ranging from a short bias-cut

Diane Gilman to Release New Fit Technology in Jeans Collection

The “Jean Queen” is going high tech.
Diane Gilman, a champion for Baby Boomer women’s fashion who has built a $ 150 million denim collection at HSN, has developed a new technology that is intended to solve several issues that typically plague women of a certain age.
Gilman’s new Fit Solution technology, developed in partnership with her longtime manufacturing partner Sunrise Brands, offers inner-support compression in the back panel of a silky four-way stretch knit fabric that is intended to lift the butt while providing maximum stretch across the body.
The Uplifter Virtual Stretch Skinny or Bootcut jean will launch Thursday on HSN and is one of several new models Gilman will be unveiling this winter.
Gilman said the Fit Solution technology is “very effective for a far more youthful and toned side and back view. We give you back what nature and gravity took away.
“I must say, I have worn the Uplifter and really love them,” she added. “They give me a perfectly lifted/rounded bottom and sleek back thigh. The silky knit fabric on the inside is like a gentle but effective girdle.”
In addition to the Uplifter, other models will include a Seamless skinny version designed to provide slimmer thighs and hips, and a

Diane von Furstenberg, Discusses the Importance of Mentoring in the Aftermath of Harvey Weinstein Controversy

Indirectly or directly, Diane von Fursteberg has probably mentored thousands of women over the years.
Before being honored with the Master Mentor award at Monday night’s iMentor Champions dinner, she said, “I hope so. It’s not for me to say…It’s a wonderful thing when you have a voice to use your voice. But everyone takes something different. I know that when I read things about women I get inspired.”
The designer’s mentor was her mother, who survived slave labor in Auschwitz and whose story was later shared with dinner guests. Seth Meyers hosted the event at the Ziegfield Ballroom, and actress Allison Williams presented the Master Mentor award to von Furstenberg. Actor Ed Norton also made the rounds with his film producer wife Shauna Robertson “Ed is not just a hot movie star. He’s a good guy,” von Furstenberg said. “And he married…”
“He married well,” Norton interjected, referring to his producer wife Shauna Robertson. Ali Kay, who has a five-year-old son with von Furstenberg’s son Alex, was also on hand, having introduced the designer to iMentor.
In the aftermath of Miramax’s Harvey Weinstein and Amazon Studios’ Roy Price scandals, “People need mentors more than ever. People need to find their strength within themselves,”

Diane Clehane, Author of ‘Imagining Diana,’ Is Celebrated

TABLE NUMBER ONE: “This should be a movie,” said Ann Curry, one of the guests at a luncheon celebrating Diane Clehane’s new book, “Imagining Diana,” hosted by Cindy Lewis and Mickey Ateyeh. In the novel, Clehane hypothesizes what Diana’s life would have been like had she survived the paparazzi-fueled car crash 20 years ago. Clehane, who has been a commentator on the British royal family for CNN, “Access Hollywood” and CBS News, is known for her weekly “Lunch” column for Adweek, where she interviews media and Hollywood celebrities over lunch at Michael’s. On Wednesday, she had the tables turned on her as she became the interview subject — at Michael’s, naturally. Spotted elsewhere at the restaurant was Mickey Drexler, former chief executive officer and current chairman of J. Crew Group, who when asked what he’s been up to, said he’s been keeping busy.

Diane Loses Everything In First Official Trailer For ‘The Good Fight’

The first official trailer for “The Good Fight” is here with a heavy dose of legal drama to fill the void left by its predecessor, “The Good Wife.”

The roughly two-minute spot follows Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) as she learns all her retirement savings have been lost as the result of a massive Ponzi scheme. Making matters worse, it seems her goddaughter Maia (Rose Leslie) might be connected to it.

If we know anything about Diane, though, it’s that she won’t go down without a fight. And based on the title of this show, that’s precisely what fans are going to get.

The 10-episode series will focus on Diane and Maia after they’ve been ousted from Lockhart & Lee and join forces with Lucca Quinn (”Good Wife” alum Cush Jumbo) at a new firm, according to Uproxx. Justin Bartha, Delroy Lindo and Erica Tazel are also part of the cast.

Since the series will air on the new CBS All Access digital platform, the writers were given a lot more freedom in terms of the dialogue — specifically in regard to cursing. By the looks of the uncensored trailer above, there will be plenty. (There’s also a censored version here.)

The series premieres on Feb. 19 and will only air on CBS All Access.

Diane von Furstenberg to Be Honored by Suzanne Rogers

HEADING NORTH: Suzanne Rogers has lined up Diane von Furstenberg for the fourth edition of her signature fashion event in Toronto.
The chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America will be up north in early May for “Suzanne Rogers Presents Diane von Furstenberg.” Proceeds from the event will benefit the Covenant House “Just Like a Girl You Know” campaign as well as other vital children’s charities.
Started in 2010, Suzanne Rogers Presents has honored such designers as Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa and Zac Posen in years past. To date, the event has helped to raise $ 2.5 million to support children’s charities, to help fight children’s poverty and strengthen a spectrum of health and education programs.
The designer’s multitiered career and her philanthropic efforts will be showcased in a detailed retrospective at the afternoon gathering, which will also include a seated luncheon and live entertainment. Rogers will share the hosting duties with the event’s chairwoman, Sylvia Mantella.
Von Furstenberg said, “I am looking forward to coming to this luncheon. Suzanne and I share a commitment to improving the lives of women and children around the world, and I’m humbled to be able to support such a phenomenal cause.”
Rogers said, “This event will

Diane von Furstenberg’s Autobiography Goes German in Berlin and Hamburg

BERLIN — Make it three for three: Diane von Furstenburg was on a three-day hop in Germany late last week to present “Die Frau, die ich sein wollte,” the third language version of her autobiography, which is now available in English, Italian and German. Chinese and French translations of “The Woman I Wanted to Be” are planned for the end of 2016. “We still have to sell it to Spain and Japan,” the designer said during a visit to Berlin’s  department store KaDeWe Thursday.
The tour started Wednesday evening with a reading and book signing at the Autorenbuchhandlung, or Author’s Book Shop under the S-Bahn arches of Berlin Savignyplatz. It was packed event, “and I even saw old friends — like Veruschka [von Lehndorff],” von Furstenberg remarked, smiling.
Another friend, David Chipperfield, filled in the Thursday night slot with a dinner for the designer at his Berlin home, and after Friday’s book signing at the new Unger concept store Uzwei in Hamburg, von Furstenberg was having dinner with Jil Sander, “who I haven’t seen in maybe  25 years so I e-mailed her.”
DVF has been part of the Unger assortment since 2002, and while the business started with a modest corner several years

Diane Kruger Releases the Martell France 300 List

GOOD SPIRITS: Joseph Altuzarra, Patrick Demarchelier and Camille Rowe-Pourcheresse figure on this year’s Martell France 300 List, which ranks French and France-inspired talents in fashion, the arts, gastronomy, mixology and entertainment. The project was spearheaded by Diane Kruger, the cognac house’s ambassador.
“Having spent much of my time living in France and working with so many great talents, it is so wonderful to work on a project that gives people some well-deserved recognition and shows how they are having an impact on French culture on an international scale,” said Kruger, who was signed on by Martell in April to front the label during its tercentenary year.
Other fashion talents on the France 300 list include Garance Doré, Alix Petit, Constance Jablonski, Edouard Roschi, Fabrice Penot, Fabien Baron, François Nars, Julia Restoin Roitfeld and Pascale Mussart.
As part of the project, the spirits-maker conducted research globally on the influence of French lifestyle. Eighty-one percent of the 6,521 people surveyed in 10 markets said that French lifestyle has significantly influenced their own way of life. In fashion, the inspiring attributes were elegance, couture, jewelry, handbags and creative fashion.

Diane von Furstenberg and Joel Horowitz: Job Done

JOB DONE: Following a report in WWD Friday that Joel Horowitz had exited Diane von Furstenberg as co-chairman, von Furstenberg and Horowitz said in a joint statement that, “We joined forces in 2012 to strengthen the DVF infrastructure and find the perfect CEO. In April, we accomplished that by bringing Paolo Riva on board. We are proud of the strides we have made and look forward to seeing the company continue to thrive upon the foundation we have built.”
It was unclear when Horowitz exited DVF, although sources said it was May or June. At the time he joined the company, he said he was looking forward to “working with the management team to further grow the business.” Given his experience taking Tommy Hilfiger Inc. public, and proven ability to lead a public firm, there has been much speculation that the ultimate prize for DVF was an initial public offering.
While Horowitz’s departure doesn’t rule out that possibility, it does presume that an IPO isn’t in the immediate future for DVF. Riva has said his priority for the company is to “start to build a strategy for the brand and what it will look like in years to come.” Under Horowitz’s tenure,

Diane Guerrero Shares How She Stays Connected To Deported Family

“Some people travel for vacation, to get away from it all. I travel to get to it all,” Diane Guerrero says in a video for Marriott International’s #LoveTravel campaign.

The “Orange Is The New Black” and “Jane The Virgin” star is just one of the many faces included in the hotel giant’s new video ads which aims to show how travel can be a way to connect cultures, careers and families. The campaign features individual video interviews with Guerrero and others Latino stars, which they edited together for the campaign’s most recent video (above).

Guerrero shares why immigration reform is so personal to her and how traveling connects her with the family she was separated from due to deportation.

“My family is in Colombia. They’ve been there since I was a kid, so when I get to see them, it’s special because I don’t get to see them often,” the 29-year-old actress said in a separate video for the campaign. “It means I get to see my roots, I get to see where I came from. It reminds me of who I am.”

Last November, Guerrero wrote an emotional op-ed in the Los Angeles Times describing the day she lost her parents and older brother to deportation when she was only 14. The New Jersey-native was allowed to stay but became dependent on friends to get by.

“And then one day, my fears were realized,” Guerrero wrote. “I came home from school to an empty house. Lights were on and dinner had been started, but my family wasn’t there. Neighbors broke the news that my parents had been taken away by immigration officers, and just like that, my stable family life was over.”

Her emotional plea for immigration reform in the op-ed quickly went viral, particularly after she broke down in tears during a CNN interview discussing how hard growing up away from her family has been.

As part of the #LoveTravels campaign, the actress and activist — who is also currently writing a memoir about her family’s immigration struggles – not only mentioned her visits to her family but that she also travels to support organizations who are pushing for immigration reform across the country.

“I am passionate about human rights, in particular immigration reform and the non-separation of families. It’s so personal to me,” Guerrero says in her #LoveTravels video. “Being a Latina and an American, for me it’s all one. I am a Latina all the time and I am an American all the time. There’s never a separation there.”

That dual identity is something Guerrero shares with actor Diego Boneta and YouTube band Boyce Avenue, who were also featured in the #LoveTravels campaign videos.

“My home and my heart is in Mexico, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t feel American that I can’t relate to Americans,” Boneta says in the video. “I think it’s one of the biggest blessing that I have in life. To be able to understand, connect and not necessarily be one or the other [but] be both.”

Watch Guerrero, Boneta and others discuss how their travels connect them to their heritage in the campaign’s most recent video above.

Golden Globes Highlights: From Amy Poehler’s Win To Diane Keaton’s Song For Woody Allen

The 71st Golden Globe Awards featured many moments worth their weight in gold.

From Amy Poehler winning Best Actress for “Parks and Recreation” (after making out with Bono) to Emma Thompson walking out onstage with her high heels and martini in hand, the night was full of surprises and fun.

Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler owned the night. From their funny opening bit (“Tam Honks,” anyone?) to Poehler dressing up as Fey’s “son,” Randy, but it was Poehler who ended up being an actual winner. She took home the Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role on “Parks and Recreation.”

In addition to love for Poehler, the Hollywood Foreign Press were obviously big fans of “Breaking Bad,” which won Best Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series for Bryan Cranston.

There was a double surprise for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” in the TV Comedy categories when series star Andy Samberg won for Best Actor and the show itself won Best Comedy Series.

Some of the stranger highlights included Jacqueline Bisset’s perplexing acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Movie or Miniseries, and Diane Keaton ending her acceptance speech for Woody Allen’s Cecil B. DeMille Award by singing the Girl Scouts song, “Make New Friends (But Keep The Old).”

The Golden Globes continued with its annual tradition of having the stars let loose, giving the audience a show to remember — and plenty to talk about until next year.

Josh Brolin And Diane Lane Are Officially Divorced

It’s over.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Josh Brolin and Diane Lane are officially divorced. Lane first filed divorce papers back in Feb. 2013, citing irreconcilable differences.

The documents were filed in Los Angeles Country Superior Court on Nov. 27 and stated that Brolin, 45, and Lane, 48, have a private financial agreement and the actress will not seek spousal support outside of that arrangement. She will however change her name back to Diane Lane — she legally went by Diane Lane Brolin while they were married.

Brolin is currently dealing with other legal issues after he was arrested for public intoxication just before midnight on New Year’s Day of this year. He has since had several drunken incidents and checked himself into rehab last month.

Brolin and Lane, who married in Aug. 2004, have no children together.
