Forget About WWE Crown Jewel, But Don’t Forgive

Right up front, I didn’t watch WWE Crown Jewel. I may someday but, most likely, probably not. So sharpen all your “you can’t complain about something you didn’t watch” swords. Lunge at me all you’d like.

Now that the dust has settled from WWE’s second, and far more controversial of the two, Saudi Arabian PPV event, it’s time to take some serious freakin’ stock. While also acknowledging that Saudi Arabia isn’t the only country WWE’s recently rented out its services to, as Australia’s Super Show-Down PPV was just a little over a month ago.

This College Is Offering a Class on Anthony Bourdain (But You Don’t Have to Go There to Take It)

Anthony Bourdain‘s legacy lives on in the classroom.

Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana is offering a course about the chef, who died by suicide in June, in their spring semester.

The class, according to a course summary posted on Twitter by professor Todd Kennedy, will include lessons about both Bourdain’s writings and TV shows and the “writings and films that influenced him.”

“What he did is so unique,” Todd Kennedy tells PEOPLE. “We talk about connections between literature and film and art and politics and history, but we’re always trained to talk about them separately. He goes all in and puts all those things, along with food, in conversation to try to understand the culture he’s looking at. And that speaks to people.”

RELATED: Why Anthony Bourdain’s Final Narration in Parts Unknown Is So ‘Uncanny’, According to Director

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Kennedy says that Bourdain’s death allowed him to reevaluate what he really liked about the celebrity chef, prompting the class. One of the most surprising facets he learned was how much of Bourdain’s work was inspired by classic film and literature.

“I picked up on a lot of the references,” Kennedy says. “But I wasn’t quite aware how pervasive it was. Quite often, he picked locations after he picked the movie. He was so committed, that’s how he approached a lot of his travel.”

Audiences hungry for a class about Bourdain don’t need to travel to Parts Unknown. The college will also be offering an online, accelerated version of the course.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Kennedy tells PEOPLE that the online course makes it easier for students at other universities to get credit for taking the class. While the course is listed as a literature class, it may also become a space for aspiring chefs to pay homage to the late personality.

“One of the reasons we thought about this class is because we have a large culinary arts program at Nicholls,” he says. “We thought it would be an interesting elective for some of those students.”

RELATED: An Anthony Bourdain Documentary Is in the Works

Those interested will need to act fast if they want to enroll. “So, it’s happening. For real,” Kennedy wrote on Twitter. “And I doubt they ever let me do it again.”

The twelfth and final season of the Emmy-winning TV series Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown airs on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET on CNN.

Don’t Expect YouTube to Drop Big Bucks for the Next Game of Thrones

At the 2018 Television Critics Association summer press tour, YouTube’s global head of original programming, Susanne Daniels, detailed her financial strategy in regards to original programming and how it will differ from the company’s competitors, like Amazon and Netflix.

“You’re probably not gonna see us spend that level of money for a Game of Thrones or a comparable series like Westworld,” Daniels said. “But I’ve always been a believer that you can make great shows for less and it’s not the episodic spend that can make something great.”

It’s no secret that streaming giants Netflix and Amazon are spending large sums of money to strengthen their footholds in the digital video landscape. Netflix will reportedly outspend every studio in Hollywood this year, while Amazon is dropping a whopping $ 1 billion on five seasons of their newly acquired Lord of the Rings franchise. Even Apple has been moving aggressively into scripted programming, with big development deals for an Amazing Stories reboot from Steven Spielberg, a thriller from M. Night Shyamalan, an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation novels, and a futuristic sci-fi drama starring Jason Momoa from the creator of Peaky Blinders, among others.

Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino Loves the ‘Sweet Spot’ of Wedding Planning: ‘Most Guys’ Don’t Get It

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is having a blast planning his upcoming nuptials to fiancée Lauren Pesce.

“We are in the sweet spot right now and having fun planning the wedding,” the Jersey Shore Family Vacation star tells PEOPLE at the Lunch with the Jersey Shore event at Little Dom’s restaurant in Los Angeles on Friday.

While Sorrentino, 35, admits that he’s been leaving most of the big decisions up to his bride-to-be, he says he’s really enjoyed checking out different venues — and tasting all those wedding cakes!

“I don’t think most guys realize how much goes into planning a wedding. I told her, ‘Babe, just do whatever you want to do,’ ” he adds.

RELATED: Jersey Shore‘s Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino & Lauren Pesce Want to Get Married in Italy — Soon

Sorrentino and Pesce, 33, who got engaged on Valentine’s Day, met in 2004 in college and dated for about four years, splitting before the original run of Jersey Shore premiered in 2009. After the MTV series wrapped in 2012, they rekindled the romance and have been together for over four years.

While Pesce previously told PEOPLE the couple didn’t “have a date” picked out yet, she revealed the couple’s “dream was always to go to the motherland and get married in Italy.”

RELATED: Jersey Shore’s Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino Celebrates Being 28 Months Sober: ‘We Do Recover’

Sorrentino, who is also celebrating 30 months of sobriety, went on to tell PEOPLE that his time with his Jersey Shore castmates was vastly different this time around.

“I was able to make good decisions, stay faithful to my girlfriend back home and stay positive,” he remarks. “I was definitely a little worried about going to the clubs with these guys who can drink and being back in that environment, but I was able to do it.”

RELATED VIDEO: Jersey Shore‘s Mike ‘the Situation’ Sorrentino Pleads Guilty in Tax Evasion Case

Sorrentino, who has battled with a prescription painkiller addiction in the past, previously told PEOPLE that he credits his fiancée with helping him turn his life around.

“What I dreamed of, the expectations I had set for him, him getting healthy and sober — I didn’t know that our relationship would survive had those miracles not happened, and they did,” Pesce said. “He put in the hard work and thanks to the faith in God that we have, we’re in the position we’re in today.”

“She’s definitely my better half and the reason why I strive to be the best version of myself and to fight for our future,” Sorrentino added. “And to show a good example to her, her family and everyone watching — because my life has been under a microscope. I have a lot to prove.”

And as Sorrentino awaits his June 20 sentencing after pleading guilty to tax evasion in a New Jersey federal court in January, he’s maintaining a positive outlook and is hoping for the best — even though he’s facing up to five years in prison.

“I’ve done everything in my power to better myself,” he told PEOPLE prior to the season premiere of Jersey Shore Family Vacation. “I really feel that I’m in the best situation possible.”

“We should receive some closure,” he added. “And I’ll try to move forward with my life.”

Kaley Cuoco and Fiancé Karl Cook Are Eager to Tie the Knot: ‘We Don’t Want to Wait Much Longer’

It’s not just puppy love for Kaley Cuoco.

The Big Bang Theory star, 32, gushed about fiancé Karl Cook at Saturday’s Paw Works’ James Paw 007 Ties & Tails Gala, where she shared hosting duties with Brad Goreski.

“He is my perfect match,” she told PEOPLE. “He lets me wake up in the morning and say, ‘I want to go and rescue rabbits.’ And he’s like, ‘Alright, let’s get a coffee and let’s go.’ And that is him. We are the same, our views are the same, our morals are the same, he is my perfect match.”

Cuoco added that while it was practically love at first sight, those feelings only grew as the couple got to know each other more.

“We connected very quickly, but I only found out over time how similar we both were, how similar that we are,” she said. “I thought, ‘Oh, my God, this guy…’ I think that I used to think that opposites attract, but in my situation, us being so similar and liking the same things, it really works for us.”

Since getting engaged in November, just over two years after Cuoco went through a very divorce from Ryan Sweeting, she said the couple is more and more eager to tie the knot.

“It’s going great! We can’t wait!” the actress said of getting ready. “We are really, honestly excited, we don’t want to wait much longer. We both really want to do this, we are so happy, and we want to move forward in our life.”

She also revealed, “I can honestly say that all of the animals will be part of our wedding, for sure.”

The longtime animal lover — her Instagram is full of adorable animal snaps, including her three rescue dogs, two rabbits and horses — joined the board of the Paw Works.

“This amazing non-profit, they save thousands of dogs and cats, get them amazing homes, take them off of death row, and create a new life for them. And they do it in a beautiful way! They make them look beautiful, they help them get healthy give them all of their shots, and all of this great stuff,” she said. “It’s really amazing, time-consuming, heartfelt work that I can try and be the voice for, but when you actually see what the people are doing behind the scenes, it’s pretty magical.”

Reese Witherspoon Visits Her Walk of Fame Star to Give It a Little Cleaning: ‘Don’t You Let People Walk All Over You’

Reese Witherspoon paid a visit to an old friend on Sunday — and helped her get a little spruced up.

The actress posted a series of hilarious videos to her Instagram Story, documenting her trip to Hollywood’s Walk of Fame to see her own star.

“I’m running a little bit lake for work today but it’s really important,” said Witherspoon in the first clip. “I heard my friend is really close by, so I want to go meet her really quick and I want you guys to meet her too.”

As the 41-year-old approached her star, she told her followers, “This is so exciting guys, here she is!”

She quickly whipped out a tissue, giving her star a little buffing.

“Oh, now you’re looking good, girl,” she joked, adding, “And don’t you let people walk all over you!”

The A Wrinkle in Time actress received the star back in 2010, bringing her daughter Ava Phillippe, now 18, and son Deacon Phillippe, now 14, along for the ceremony.

She also posted an Instagram photo of herself on the Walk of Fame, writing, “When you run into a friend on the street.”

This past week, Witherspoon appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, jokingly competing with the host and fellow guest Oprah Winfrey over their friendships. Though the trivia competition about Winfrey’s life was fierce, DeGeneres was ultimately the winner.

Following her divorce from Rico Hines last year, all is well with the actress these days. “Tichina is doing great!” she told PEOPLE at the McDonald’s 365 Black Awards, where the former Martin star was honored for her achievements in entertainment during this year’s Essence Fest in New Orleans.

Taking on her latest role opposite Vanessa Williams in the upcoming VH1 show Daytime Divas (based off of Star Jones’ book Satan’s Sisters) she couldn’t be happier. “I hadn’t read a script this good in a long time,” said Arnold, 48. Having had hilarious turns on shows like Everybody Hates Chris and Survivor’s Remorse, “I’m blessed,” she shared of her 35 years in Hollywood. “I’m not a star, I’m a survivor.”

But with her second marriage now over, she admitted there’s one thing she’s not so adept at. “I don’t know how to be single again!” she said with a laugh. “It’s sad. I don’t even know what to look at or what I’m into.”

WATCH: The Preachers featuring Tichina Arnold

She didn’t always have this problem. “Right before my second marriage I was really cool with being single,” the mother of one shared. “I’d fell into a nice rhythm raising my daughter, and then here comes the second husband. It didn’t work out but I’m not sad or upset about it. Life happens. You’ve got to stay positive. And drink wine!””

In the past, “I always allowed the man to choose me, so I’m going to switch direction a little and give myself more time,” said Arnold. But even if love does come knocking again, “I doubt if I’ll ever get married again. I’m older now, I have no ideals. I’m blessed to have done it all.”

Last year also brought the loss of her close friend and Martin costar Tommy Ford. “Getting that call was gut-wrenching,” Arnold admitted of learning about Ford, who died following an aneurysm at age 52. “Everybody loved him. We’re all just devastated he didn’t live his full life.”

With a tough 2016 behind her, the actress is happy to re-focus on work with Daytime Divas. “I play Vanessa Williams’s nemesis! Vanessa is one classy woman, and now I’m like ‘Oh my God, I get to treat Miss America like s—!’” Arnold said. “I’m really excited.”

So THAT’S Why Some People Don’t Need To Use Deodorant

With rising temperatures and long summer days on the way, most of us are trying to figure out the best way to curb heavy sweating and body odor.

But if you’re one of the lucky few who don’t possess the gene that produces odor in your armpits ― it’s called ABCC11 ― you don’t even have to worry about deodorant.

According to the website LiveScience, the presence of the gene means that your armpits lack a chemical that, when combined with sweat, bacteria feeds on to produce smelly body odor.

In January 2013, Ian Day, a genetic epidemiologist at the University of Bristol and Santiago Rodriguez, PhD and senior lecturer in population and molecular genetics at Bristol Genetic Epidemiology Laboratories, co-authored a study on deodorant after surveying 6,495 women. The two found that 2 percent of participants (117 women) had the ABCC11 gene. Of those 117 women, 78 percent of them still wore deodorant even when they didn’t have to.

Though Day and Rodriguez’ study didn’t look at males, Day told LiveScience he thinks their research can be generalized. He also estimated in the interview that the rare gene is found in two percent of Europeans and nearly all East Asians and Koreans.

“These findings have some potential for using genetics in the choice of personal hygiene products,” Rodriguez said in a statement about the study. “A simple gene test might strengthen self-awareness and save some unnecessary purchases and chemical exposures for non-odor producers.”

For those of us who don’t have this lucky gene and tend to sweat a lot during the summer, try these helpful tips:

  1. Try an Rx-strength antiperspirant, which is particularly helpful for people who sweat a lot in the underarms, palms of hands or soles of their feet.

  2. Make sure to apply your antiperspirant at night, as it will help plug your sweat ducts better at that time, rather than in the morning.

  3.  Try Botox injections, which block the signals that turn on the body’s sweat glands at the injection spot.

Paris Hilton Went Brunette, And We Don’t Even Know What To Think

When Paris Hilton isn’t blonde, it feels like our “Simple Life” has been turned upside down.

The 36-year-old reality star debuted her new brunette locks a few days ago in an Instagram that left her fans reeling. It’s unclear if she dyed her hair, or if Hilton is fooling all of us with a very convincing wig.

Hilton’s followers mostly reacted positively to her new hair.

“You look amazing as a brunette. I am glad you decided to try the dark side,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “I love the brunette on you!!!”

Tyler Perry On Hollywood And Race: ‘I Don’t Think It’s Black And White, It’s Green’

Tyler Perry isn’t one to hold back about his thoughts on race.

When asked in this week’s issue of The Hollywood Reporter if Hollywood has respect for the African-American viewing audience, Perry said he thinks Hollywood tends to focus more on money than race.

“Listen, let me tell you something about what I know about Hollywood,” Perry, who was named TV Producer of the Year by the magazine, said. “I don’t think it’s black and white, I think it’s green. It’s just about, Where’s the money? How do we make the money? How do we make the business grow? It’s all about the money. So whatever’s making the money is where the respect is going to be.”

Perry, who is currently producing an original series for TLC (“Too Close to Home”), as well as five original shows for the OWN network (“The Haves and the Have Nots,” “If Loving You Is Wrong,” “Love Thy Neighbor,” “For Better or Worse,” “The Paynes”), named Bill Cosby and Oprah Winfrey as his industry role models because “we had the same color skin.”

Even though he’s openly talked about race in the movie industry before, he’s also previously said that he’s not the ideal person to discuss race in film during a 2015 Producers Guild of America panel.

“I’m not the person to ask about racism in this town, coming from where I came from I never had to go through what I’ve heard a lot of people had to go through in this town,” he said, according to Deadline. “I got into this town and I didn’t understand it.”

Mayim Bialik on How She Tackles Talking Puberty with Her Sons: ‘We Don’t Want Them to Have Shame About Their Bodies’

Mayim Bialik is answering all the questions every young girl has about growing up in her new bookGirling Up: How to Be Strong, Smart and Spectacular – but how does she talk to her own sons about puberty?

The Big Bang Theory star and neuroscientist tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, “We’ve always spoken to our children very frankly and in biologically appropriate terms.”

“We don’t want them to have shame about their bodies or fear about women’s bodies,” says Bialik. “While we tend to be a pretty socially conservative house in terms of how we dress and how we talk about modesty for boys and girls, we’re very matter of fact with them. We know that a daddy cell meets a mommy cell and all those things. ”

Bialik – who shares sons Frederick, 8, and Miles, 11, with ex Michael Stone – addresses female puberty taboos, as well as teen sexuality, body image and stress in Girling Up.

Want all the latest pregnancy and birth announcements, plus celebrity mom blogs? Click here to get those and more in the PEOPLE Babies newsletter.

The guide to how girls grow up was, in part, inspired by Bialik’s own youth as a “late bloomer,” and, she says, being “raised in a house where no one talked about any of this stuff.”

RELATED VIDEO: Anna Chlumsky Reveals Why She Had to Pull Back from Show Business as a Teen

Now, as a trained science communicator, Bialik says she approaches things with her kids matter-of-factly.

“ know all about genetic signaling, and when sex is determined and we’ve talked about the hormonal basis for gender identity and things like that,” she tells PEOPLE.

“And they have plenty of questions – my ex-husband tells me they only ask me and he’s grateful for that. I’ll text him late at night, like, ‘Guess what I was just asked!’ and he’s like, ‘They don’t ask me those things.’ ”

And, luckily, keeping things “frank” seems to have worked. Says Bialik, “Miles was my first editor!”

Bialik’s book, Girling Up: How to Be Strong, Smart and Spectacular, is on sale now.

Whatever You Do, Don’t Ask Anna Kendrick To Be A Bridesmaid

Sure, she’s been in a couple wedding movies, but Anna Kendrick does not want to be in an actual wedding. Especially not as a bridesmaid.

During an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the “Table 19” actress explained why she’d rather not stand beside the bride on the big day.

“I try not to get invited to weddings,” Kendrick said. “It’s like watching your friends put on a little pageant. And you have to be in a nice dress and talk to people you don’t know. I feel like I’ve potentially avoided making very close female friends cause I don’t want to be a bridesmaid.”

She added, “If you put me on an email chain and tell me I have to wear ballet pink nail polish, I will kill you where you stand… Like, I can be friends with you if you’re already married.”

Rats Beware: These Broom-Toting College Students Don’t Mess Around

This plan is as elaborate as the Mousetrap board game.

A group of college roommates attending Duquesene University in Pittsburgh faced a daunting problem when a large rat moved in to their space. Instead of cowering in fear at the threat ― like many would ― they banded together to defeat the “Rat King.”

Their plan required patience, precision, and a ridiculously clutch sweep of a broom. The women blocked off the “Rat King’s” route and prepared for battle.

“We were all freaking out,” Jody Mackin told Buzzfeed News.

After they set the trap, Mackin and her friends sprung into action. Video shows the rat flopping down the stairs like a rag doll before the boyfriend of one of the roommates sweets the animal outside.

Many Twitter users hailed the women as heroes for creating the ingenious trap.

But some felt sorry for the rat.

But many were happy that the rodent escaped intact.

Sorry, You Don’t Actually Have A Year To Send A Wedding Gift

You may have heard somewhere that guests have up to a year after the wedding to send a gift to the newlywed couple.

These days, though, etiquette experts insist that a year is way, way too long to wait.

“A year is a long time and a lot can change!” Amber Harrison of Wedding Paper Divas told The Huffington Post. “For example, it is totally possible that the couple might be making a big cross-country move or welcoming a new baby one year after the wedding, in which case receiving a wedding gift might feel out of place.”

So how long is the window, really?

“Guidance for proper timing of the gift is not as clear cut,” Harrison added. “Gifts are welcome and appropriate at any time before the wedding and even at the reception. It is perfectly fine for gifts to also arrive after the wedding, but it should be soon enough that the wedding is still top of mind. There are always exceptions to the rule, but sending a gift more than a month or two after the wedding is probably too long.”

There you have it.

Ladies of London’s Caroline Stanbury Launches ‘Girly-Girl’ Furniture Collection: ‘The People Who Don’t Like It Probably Don’t Like Me’

Chairs lined in Chanel tweed, a side table cinched with the gold belt of a Tom Ford gown — Caroline Stanbury‘s designer wardrobe can now have a place in every home.

The Ladies of London star, 40, isn’t chopping up her enviable threads, of course, but her closet does serve as direct inspiration for her fashionable new home collection. “Everyone’s obsessed with my wardrobe,” says the stylist turned realty star, “so I incorporated it into my line of furniture.”

The collection, created in collaboration with London-based interior design and development firm Earlcrown, includes 12 scene-stealing pieces ranging from lacquer dining chairs for $ 855 each to a dining table in colors like pale pink, yellow and pistachio for $ 5,642.

RELATED: Ladies of London Star Caroline Stanbury Shows Off Stunning New Home in Dubai

When Stanbury and her three children moved to Dubai to be near a new business opportunity for her husband, Turkish financier Cem Habib, Earlcrown’s CEO Bianca Ladow was tasked with decorating the family’s new home in just six weeks.

“I rented my house out in the U.K. furnished, so I didn’t have any furniture,” explains Stanbury of the whirlwind decorating job. “This is a 13,000-square-foot house — and trust me, for Dubai that’s quite small — and had to completely furnish it.” She met up with Ladow and had every single piece of furniture made for the house. Their creations would become Caroline Stanbury for Earlcrown.

The collection, which includes pieces like a channel-tufted velvet vanity seat with a brass base ($ 1,701) and an angular chaise inspired by an Issey Miyake gown ($ 2,662), is unapologetically girly and a bit over the top, much like Stanbury herself, or at least her TV persona.

WATCH THIS: Ladies Of London Star Caroline Stanbury Talks New Furniture Collection

“I think the reason I’m known from Ladies of London is my one-liners, being a little bit out there, a little bit ridiculous,” she says. “In the world we live in today, people need a little bit of release, to look at a bubble and go, ‘I love that. It’s fun and it’s pretty and it’s exciting.’ And if you look at the furniture, I think it’s all of those things. It makes me happy to look at it.”

RELATED: Inside Ladies of London Star Marissa Hermer’s New L.A. Mansion and Why She’s ‘Obsessed’ with Her Master Bathroom

But she’s quick to point out that you don’t have to be a fan of hers to enjoy her creations for the home: the pieces are completely customizable, so those weary of the pastel hues can still enjoy the luxe-looking shapes and finishes. “You don’t like my colors? Change it to whatever you like,” she says. Adding, “I’m Marmite anyway” — a reference to the divisive English condiment. “The people who don’t like it probably don’t like me. Hopefully there will be a lot of people who love it.”

Duchess Kate Nails Why People Don’t Seek Mental Health Help

The Duchess of Cambridge is yet again schooling the world on negative mental health stereotypes.

The duchess, along with Prince William and Prince Harry, spoke out about how stigma prevents people with mental illness from seeking support. The brief speech by the former Kate Middleton was part of an event in London on Tuesday for Heads Together, the royals’ mental health charity.

“The challenge that so many people have is not knowing how to take that first step of reaching out to another person for help. Admitting that they are not coping,” she said. “Fear, or reticence, or a sense of not wanting to burden another, means that people suffer in silence ― allowing the problem to grow larger and larger unchecked.

Kate couldn’t have summed it up better. Too often shame silences those with a mental health condition. And what’s worse is that it could be damaging to that person’s health: Research shows that the misconceptions surrounding behavioral health conditions often stand in the way of people getting professional treatment.

Approximately one in four adults globally experience a mental health issue in a given year. That number increases when you factor in children. Experts say anxiety disorders among kids are one of the most common pediatric problems

This is another mental health issue the royals are hoping to tackle. Last year, Kate penned an essay for The Huffington Post U.K. where she addressed the consequences that come with ignoring a child’s psychological well-being.

“The mental health of our children must be seen as every bit as important as their physical health,” she wrote. “For too long we have been embarrassed to admit when our children need emotional or psychiatric help, worried that the stigma associated with these problems would be detrimental to their futures.”

If we’re being honest, we could listen to this family talk about mental health all day. Keep it up, guys!

What Sex Therapists Tell People Whose Partners Don’t Want Sex

Being in a relationship with someone who’s disinterested in sex can feel incredibly lonely. A discrepancy in desire is more common than most people realize, though.

What’s the best way to address it with your spouse? Below, sex therapists share the advice they give people with higher sex drives than their partners.

1. Be honest with your spouse about your needs.

Don’t shut your partner out and quietly suffer through your sexual frustration. The first step you should take to improve your sex life is to tell your S.O. that you wish you were intimate more frequently, said Keeley Rankin, a sex therapist in San Francisco, California.

“See how your spouse responds,” she said. “Listen to what they say, feel and say they want. You never know, they may want more closeness as well.”

2. Discuss the things that make sex possible and the barriers in the way.

Without asking, there’s no way of knowing why your spouse is disinterested in sex. Maybe they’re just exhausted and too stressed out by the day’s end to initiate sex. Or if they’re experiencing sexual dysfunction of some kind (premature ejaculationerectile dysfunction or a lack of vaginal lubrication, for instance), it makes sense that they’re apprehensive about initiating sex.

“You have to consider the life, emotional and physical barriers that can affect sex and shift libidos,” said Elizabeth McGrath, a sex therapist and educator who works in the Bay Area. “If your spouse has been caring for others all day, for instance, they might not feel ready for sex until they’ve had a moment to themselves to feel nourished and decompress.”

Once you’ve pinpointed some potential causes, figure out a workaround as a team; schedule a doctor’s appointment if there’s a physical barrier to sex, or give your spouse some totally kid-free “me time” if exhaustion is the problem.

3. Try seduction, not criticism or pressure.

A slight mismatch in libido can easily become a larger one if the lower-desire spouse is badgered about the issue, said Danielle Harel, a sex therapist and the co-author of Making Love Real: The Intelligent Couple’s Guide to Lasting Intimacy and Passion

The mismatch often creates a cycle where the spouse with the higher sex drive complains, compares or criticizes their partner and the partner ends up having sex out of obligation, she explained.

Instead of pressuring your spouse, “see if you can find out what turns them on the most and try seduction,” Harel said. “Try saying (and really meaning), ‘It’s fine if we don’t have sex tonight but would you be willing to just open up to see if you start to get turned on?’”

She added: “Just because you start, doesn’t mean you have to go all the way. Make sure you have this agreement with your partner.”

4. Take turns initiating intimacy.

If you’re locked into a cycle of initiation and rejection, ask your spouse if they’d be willing to initiate some form of intimacy every few days, said Moushumi Ghose, a sex therapist and author of Classic Sex Positions Reinvented.

“Take turns each day initiating some kind of touch, even if if the goal isn’t orgasm, but just non-goal oriented sexy time,” she said. “The next day, the other person initiates. This can help balance out the playing field.”

5. See if your spouse is willing to make out.

Reconnecting sexually is all about taking slow, measured steps. If your partner is willing to have a hot make-out session or just touch, be open to that, said Celeste Hirschman, a sex therapist and the co-author of Making Love Real: The Intelligent Couple’s Guide to Lasting Intimacy and Passion.

“Oftentimes, when people are asking for sex, a lot of what they want is just enthusiastic, loving connection.” Hirschman said. “Just remember: You both have to be enthusiastic about it; it won’t be fulfilling if your partner just gives you sex without being present or enjoying the experience themselves.”

6. Get outside help.

Instead of dwelling on what’s missing in the relationship, consider the bond and attraction that still exists and build on that, McGrath said.

“Explore workshops, sex education resources and sex therapy that can expand your sexual horizons,” she said. “Look at what is possible and continue to talk about what else you can do together as a team.”

7. Keep bringing your sexual energy, but in a loving, calm way.

Don’t lose heart if you’re the higher-desire partner, said Ian Kerner, a sex therapist and New York Times-bestselling author of She Comes First: The Thinking Man’s Guide to Pleasuring a Woman.

“Higher-desire partners often get frustrated and feel rejected, creating a sexual disposition that is impatient and brittle and temperamental,” he said. “This often worsens the dynamic around sex and sometimes the higher-desire partner may opt out altogether, which is equally bad.”

The best thing you can do, according to Kerner, is to “stay in it to win it. That means nurturing arousal through positive acts of intimacy.”

Don’t Know What to Do With Your Life? These Four Easy Steps Will Get You on Your Way

How do I really know what I want? originally appeared on Quorathe knowledge sharing network where compelling questions are answered by people with unique insights.

Answer by Alexandra Isenegger, Founder and CEO at Linkilaw, on Quora:

Choosing what you really want to do is not an easy thing. Unfortunately there is no simple method that will give you the exact answer. However, there are a couple of tasks that you can do to make it much easier. Let me tell you of some of them:

  • List: First off, let’s make a list. On the list, write everything that you are good at, what comes naturally to you, what you have a passion for, what your interests are, and so on. Write it all down! If you’re not sure what you’re interested in, think about it this way: if I had one hour free right now to do anything, what would I do? Would you play a sport, play a musical instrument, research about economics, or play a video game? Write all the things that come to your mind. What’s important here is that you should let it flow out of you and don’t spend time focusing and trying to make ideas come out of you. This is really based on your feelings, so don’t force it!

  • Research: Secondly, it’s time to do some research. Try to find out what working in those areas is like. Is it extremely stressful, do professionals work long hours, or is it more relaxed? Do you have to work in the office or can you work remotely? Find out as much as you can about the industry. If you can talk to some professionals, do so, because that will be the best source of information! Also feel free to mix your interests together. For example: you really enjoy sports but you aren’t good enough to play professionally. However, you also enjoy taking care of people or like the idea of being a doctor. Then mix the two together and go into sports medicine.

  • Elimination: Once you have all the information on all your interests, it’s time to be very honest with yourself. Start eliminating everything you do not like or know that you will not be able to do. For example if you know that you just cannot work for 18 hours straight and be in an office until very late, then eliminate any job that requires that. Do this for all the negatives that you can come up with. This really only works when you are honest, so no cutting corners! However, if you run out of interests, then you can make compromises. For example: let’s say that you know that you cannot work in an office for 14 hours a day; however, you would be able to do it if you were going out to meet clients each day for 3 or 4 hours. Hence, this might be something worth keeping in mind.

  • Testing: Finally, if you have followed the previous steps, you should hopefully be left with one or more good options. Now you want to actually go out and try it. No matter how much research you do, nothing will beat the experience of actually doing it! Go out and find an internship, apprenticeship, or job. Once you are out there in the field, you will get a deeper understanding and you can ask yourself: am I enjoying doing this? If yes, than congrats, it’s likely you have found what you want to do! If not, go back to your list and try something else. What if I only had one option left and its not working out for me? Well if that is the case then either go back to step one and try again or go back to step three and see where you can do some comprises. Then try it out!

No matter what, do what makes you happy and the money will sort itself out. I hope this helps you!

Artists Really, Really Don’t Want Their Work On Ivanka Trump’s Walls

Shimmying my way into the weekend! #TGIF

A video posted by Ivanka Trump (@ivankatrump) on

Artists are well aware that Ivanka Trump, daughter and sort-of, kind-of future First Lady to the president-elect, is an avid collector of contemporary art. A cursory glance through her Instagram feed shows Ivanka, her kids, and her handbags posing around her upscale home among pieces by blue chip artists including Christopher Wool, Dan Colen, Alex Israel and Alex Da Corte.

There was a time when Ivanka was just an affluent businesswoman and socialite with decent taste. Now, however, she is poised to play an influential role in the upcoming Trump administration, and artists want nothing to do with her nor her father. The rapid shift has been something of a wake-up call for artists and dealers who have in the past worked with or sold to Ivanka’s family, and now feel complicit in the apparent bigotry and ignorance embodied in Trump’s rhetoric and cabinet picks.

Bloomberg published a piece yesterday compiling some of the artists who have publicly condemned Ivanka and demanded she remove their work from her property. Philadelphia-based artist Da Corte called her out in an Instagram post reading:

“Dear @Ivankatrump please get my work off of your walls. I am embarrassed to be seen with you.”

Da Corte also participated in a protest last month in front of Manhattan’s Puck Building, owned by Ivanka’s husband’s family. He marched with a crowd of artists including Marilyn Minter, Jonathan Horowitz and Rob Pruitt as part of a campaign called “Dear Ivanka” ― which hopes to address Ivanka directly on behalf of her father’s words, Tweets, appointments, and impending plans.

For some coastal liberals, it feels impossible to ever logically level with Donald Trump himself. Ivanka, however, feels a bit more accessible and thus, potentially, more receptive.

She frequents the art world, what’s sometimes called ‘the New York liberal bubble,’” curator Alison Gingeras, a leader of the movement, explained to The New Yorker. “So we already know we can speak with her, and we want to appeal to her personal stakes.”

Thus far, however, Ivanka has not responded to the “Dear Ivanka” protestors, nor to the many fears and anxieties they’ve disclosed. And until she does, the art world must continue to take a stand.

There has long been an economic divide between the people who make art and the people who buy it, but now more than ever artists working to resist the normalization of hate and protect the rights of marginalized communities are realizing the art marketplace is no longer an apolitical business.

As dealer Bill Powers, who sold Ivanka a Louis Eisner piece in 2013, put it, “I think there are a lot of artists that are uncomfortable now being incorporated, or leveraged, as part of the Ivanka Trump brand.”

Thirteen Pieces of Life Advice That Fifty Year Olds Know and Twenty Year Olds Don’t

What do 50-year-olds know that 20-year-olds often don’t? originally appeared on Quorathe knowledge sharing network where compelling questions are answered by people with unique insights.

Answer by Franklin Veaux, small business owner, sexuality educator, writer, on Quora:

When your heart breaks, you will feel like you will never love again, and you will be alone forever and ever. That feeling is a lie. The night passes. Dawn comes. You will be all right.

When you meet a stranger and your eyes lock across a crowded room, and every fiber of your heart and soul sings “Yes! Yes! This is the one! I am in love!” you are not in love. That’s the very old part of your brain saying, “Our offspring would have excellent immune systems.” You can not love someone you do not know. When you feel that feeling a couple of times, you’ll learn to recognize it for what it is.

Movie stars do not make good science analysts, political thinkers, or life coaches. If you take medical advice from former Playboy centerfolds instead of doctors or think that B-list movie actors are better sources of political ideas than actual political scholars, you’re apt to end up somewhere you don’t want to be.

All the angst and turmoil and alienation you feel is as old as written history. You aren’t the first to feel these things and you won’t be the last. All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again.

Incremental progress toward your goal is better than stomping your foot and saying “If I can’t have everything I want right now, I’m going to burn it all down!” Incremental progress is progress. It is impossible for dead Utopians to build Utopia.

The world changes faster than you think it does. I was born into a world where everyone believed the eternal struggle between the Soviet Union and the Americans would destroy humankind. Being gay was still illegal in many states when I was born. Now gays and lesbians can marry, and there are voters who weren’t alive when the USSR was a thing. See reference to “incremental progress is still progress” above.

The things you consider life or death matters of supreme importance now, you might not even remember, much less care about, thirty years from now. Choose your battles wisely.

It takes decades to develop a reputation for integrity and trustworthiness, and just one single decision to destroy it.

Other people are real. They matter just as much as you do.

Nothing is as simple as you think it is, even when you factor in nothing is as simple as you think it is.

Small decisions have big consequences down the road. Imagine a space probe on its way to Mars. The tiniest, tiniest course correction at the beginning of the trip can mean making it there or missing by millions of miles. Every time you’re scared to do what you want to do, yet you do it, in any matter, however, small, you’re making a tiny course correction. Added up over time, they make a huge difference in your life and take you somewhere awesome.

Life rewards courage.

If you’re ever stuck in a position where you have to make a choice but you don’t know the right thing to do, the right thing to do is usually the thing that takes the most courage.

It’s OK If You Don’t Want To Be An Entrepreneur

Why do you really want to build a business?

  • To make your life more exciting?
  • To have more freedom?
  • To make more money?

You probably want more of everything! Great, because in addition to all of the above, business can also be:

  • more terrifying,
  • more depressing,
  • more exhilarating,
  • more mundane,
  • more lonely,
  • more aggravating,
  • more unsure,
  • more annoying,
  • more liberating,
  • more expensive,
  • more time-consuming,
  • more joyful,
  • more unpredictable,
  • more stupid
  • and, of course, more wonderful.

So it’s not that you won’t have fun starting a business. You will. A ton of fun.

But you’ll also go through a multitude of other emotions, states, feelings and stark realities, with that same fun mixed in randomly.

So now is the time to ask yourself: can you deal with all the elements of entrepreneurship, or are you just down for the fun stuff?

It’s ok if you really just want to experience the fun stuff that entrepreneurship has to offer.

I’m not judging. But I am pointing out that it’s simply not the way it is — and unfortunately, you don’t find out a lot of the other elements until you’re so deep in the game that it doesn’t make sense to quit. That’s why there’s so much talk about “hustle” and never quitting in the business space online — because so many entrepreneurs are too deep in the game to even consider turning around.

Once you’re a few years deep, it’s much harder to just “move on.” So you have to be extremely tough mentally in order to make it. That’s where the “hustle” mentality comes from. Not because entrepreneurs are some rare breed that don’t get tired — but because mental and emotional resilience is a learned trait that must be developed in order for us to survive.

I’m not trying to scare you. I’m just trying to share some things I wish people would have told me in the beginning.

People start businesses hoping that it will solve their biggest problems, all the while, forgetting that any new challenge — and make no mistake, running a real business is a huge challenge — will inevitably create new, previously unforeseen problems.

If you’re down for that, cool. If you’re not, just be honest with yourself. There’s no shame in getting a good job. Honestly.

For as much as I preach about building your own thing (and I do strongly believe in it) — I’d rather see you just be honest with yourself and do what’s actually going to make you happy, rather than trying to do something that isn’t “you” because looking at hundreds of pictures on Instagram every day has tricked you into thinking that you’re missing out on something.

Trust me, you’re not.

And let me assure you, there is nothing morally redeeming about being a business owner. A lot of the talk online equates having your own company with “giving back” or living your life “to the fullest” — as if there’s no other employment setting where this might be possible.

False.

Entrepreneurship doesn’t bestow or imply any moral or ethical benefits.

Having a business isn’t a necessarily better way of living, it’s just an other way of living.

And this is your life. Any decision that you make for yourself will be correct — as long as you’re honest about what you really want.
