Emily Ratajkowski and Haim Attend Jacquemus Spring 2019 Show

Despite the show’s theme being “La Riviera,” the weather wasn’t quite Côte d’Azur at the Italian Embassy in the 7th arrondissement, where the Jacquemus spring 2019 show was soon to take place.
“I’m freezing,” said Inès de la Fressange, hugging her black corduroy jacket around her shoulders as she entered the courtyard.
She hopped over to her friend and fellow Parisienne Caroline de Maigret, marveling at her choice of a plunging black silk jumpsuit in this chilly weather. Both women have become ambassadors of Parisian style, having each written a book about the art of the true Parisienne.
De Maigret, who featured in Simon Porte Jacquemus’ second collection six years ago, said it was the designer’s communicative energy that led her to collaborate with the brand. “He had really great ideas. I was hooked from the very beginning,” she said. “Years later, he still has the same incredible energy.”
Out in the back garden, Emily Ratajkowski was sipping a glass of Champagne and also praising the 28-year-old designer’s sunny nature. “I met Simon a year ago at his last spring collection, and I now have a friendship with him. Each of his shows celebrate women, and he has a really European, sexy approach that I

Dennis Basso’s Creative Director Emily Burnett to Exit

GOOD-BYE ON GOOD TERMS: Dennis Basso’s 2019 resort collection will be a swan song for creative director Emily Burnett.
After 10 years at the company, she is exiting at the end of this month. A replacement has not yet been named, but candidates will be interviewed next week, Burnett said.
Basso said Wednesday, “Emily was a wonderful part of the design team, she understood my vision and ‘the Basso woman.’ I wish her great success in her future endeavors.”
Burnett plans to launch her own young designer women’s wear collection this summer with the support of an undisclosed business partner. The first collection will be pre-fall shown in December.
She said of her departure, “I felt that I had all of the training and a really great network. I met my business partner and we just thought it was the right moment to start a female founded brand.”
Burnett graduated from The New School’s Parsons School of Design, studying fashion design in a class that included Cushnie et Ochs’ founders Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, and another New York designer Elizabeth Kennedy. After earning her diploma, Burnett started her career at Polo Ralph Lauren working under Whitney Fairchild on the Ralph Lauren Black Label. At

Pratt Fashion Show Honors Gabriela Hearst, and New Talent Rachel Lee and Emily Ridings

Pratt Institute went all-out Thursday night sending 20 student collections down-the-runway at a seated show at Spring Studios.
Guest of honor Gabriela Hearst, who received the Pratt Visionary Award beforehand, took in every passing look often sharing a word with her seatmate Glenda Bailey, editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar. They were among the 600 guests at the school’s 119th annual show. Entitled “Diversiform,” the hourlong event featured the work of Rachel Lee, Quian Wu, Jiayue Ge, KJ Choi, Anderson Osmun, Samantha Debardeleben, Ryu Tomita Talia Leslie, Victoria Tom, Liv Ryan, Hannah Li, Shelby Grochowski, Ying Yang, Hajin Kim, Haley Switlekowski, Perri Vaaler, Amy Sullivan, Jeremy Wood and Emily Ridings. Each designer presented eight to 15 styles.
Before attendees headed out, there were a few other awards. Lee learned that she has been selected to participate in Graduate Fashion Week in London later this year. A rolled-neck white cape with an artistic design, and long-waisted wide-leg pants with a multi-fabric midriff skimming top were among her designs.
A second award, a $ 10,000 scholarship, was given in honor and remembrance of “beloved” Pratt professor Christopher Hunte who died in 2016. Jennifer Minniti, chairperson of Pratt’s Fashion department, explained, “Christopher Hunte used to come into

Emily Maynard Johnson Admits She Regrets Daughter Ricki’s Appearances on The Bachelorette

Emily Maynard Johnson has her hands full as a mom of four, but there was a time in her life when she was just getting adjusted to new parenthood — and admittedly, she would do things a little differently if she could.

In a new interview, The Bachelorette alum opened up with PEOPLE’s Celeb Parents Get Real about how she regrets having daughter Ricki, now 12, make appearances on the show.

“I wish that I would’ve kept totally separate ,” says Maynard Johnson. “At the time, I thought, ‘This is it,’ and I never would’ve brought her into it had I not thought that.”

“So I wish that I maybe would’ve taken a step back,” adds the 31-year-old star. “Maybe sheltered her from that a little bit more.”

Since welcoming Ricki at the age of 19, Maynard Johnson has given birth to three sons with husband Tyler Johnson: newborn Gatlin Avery, 6 weeks, Gibson Kyle, 15 months, and Jennings Tyler, 2. But the former reality star admits it’s her daughter who still makes her the most emotional.

“Ricki is the one that makes me laugh the most she’s probably the one that makes me cry the most,” says Maynard Johnson. “Because I had her when I was 19 and we’ve really grown up together.”

She adds, “So to see her becoming a grown-up … I cried like a baby at her lower-school graduation. People thought somebody had died. I was sobbing, ugly crying — it was horrible.”

Although Ricki is the likeliest to elicit tears and giggles from her mama, it’s the star’s oldest son whom she feels she is very much like, personality wise.

“Jennings, my 2-year-old, he wants all of his race cars to be clean … I have to get him a water bottle,” Maynard Johnson explains. “He wants them clean, dried off, in a line, in the cabinet, no one can touch it.”

“And that is, sad to say, totally me,” she admits.

Bachelor Twins Haley & Emily Say Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi ‘Tried Very Hard to Make Their Relationship Work’

Bachelor twins Emily and Haley Ferguson are sticking up for Nick Viall.

After news broke Friday that the former Bachelor star and his final pick Vanessa Grimaldi recently ended their engagement, the reality stars — who vied for Ben Higgins‘ heart on his season of the hit ABC show and appeared on Bachelor in Paradise with Viall — opened up to PEOPLE exclusively about the sad news.

“I think it’s funny that a lot of the girls from Nick’s season claim to know Nick and his relationship with Vanessa. Emily and I were both fortunate enough to become very close to both Nick and Vanessa,” the Ferguson sisters say in a joint statement. “We hung out with them not only together but also separately.”

“They both loved each other very much and tried very hard to make their relationship work. Like any normal relationship outside of the spotlight, they had their ups and downs. We love them both very much and hope that everyone will respect their privacy during this hard time,” the statement continues.

Viall, 36, and Grimaldi have battled split rumors since their awkward appearance on After the Final Rose, where they insisted there were no wedding plans in the works.

“It’s with a great amount of heartbreak for the both us as we have decided to end our engagement,” the couple, last pictured together on Instagram Aug. 15, said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE on Friday. “We gave this relationship our all and we are saddened that we did not get the fairytale ending we hoped for. We will continue to be there for each other no matter what. This hasn’t been an easy decision, however, as we part ways, we do so with lots of love and admiration for each other.”

Viall appeared on two previous seasons of The Bachelorette and season 3 of Bachelor in Paradise before taking his turn as the lead suitor earlier this year.

Emily Ratajkowski in Twinset Simona Barbieri’s Milan Store

A DJ set, cocktails being served throughout the store, but above all: followers — a very small part of her 11 million Instagram followers, of course. Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski was in Twinset Simona Barbieri’s Milan store Tuesday night to launch the brand’s spring ad campaign.
“I do like Twinset because it’s chic and elegant,” explained Ratajkowski. Creative director Simona Barbieri “creates easy-to-wear dresses, which are very sexy and feminine with a touch of a masculine look at the same time.”
Ratajkowski wore a total white look. “I really feel at ease in this dress, I feel very cool,” she said.
The model said she knew the Italian brand long before being its face. “I remember when I traveled to Venice with my parents, I saw Twinset posters around the city and that’s when I started to like it,” she said.
The new Twinset campaign tells the story of two friends’ journey — Ratajkowski and Sasha Pivovarova — and was photographed in Santa Barbara, Calif., by Giampaolo Sgura. Edward Enninful styled the campaign.

Fitness Star Emily Skye Feels ‘Happier, Healthier, Stronger and Fitter’ After Gaining 28 Lbs.

Fitness star Emily Skye is speaking out to let her followers know that being thin does not make you healthier or happier.

Skye, 29, shared a photo of herself in 2008 at 47 kilograms (about 104 lbs.) and now at 60 kilograms (about 132 lbs.) in a side-by-side comparison on Instagram.

The Australian trainer explains that the first photo is from is before she started strength training.

“I was only doing cardio and I was obsessed with being as skinny as I could be,” she shares. “I was starving myself and was really unhealthy and unhappy. I suffered depression and had terrible body image.”

She has since gained 13 kilograms (about 28 lbs.) through focusing on lifting weights and doing some high-intensity interval training.

“I don’t do any long cardio sessions and I eat more than I’ve ever eaten in my life,” says Skye. “I’m also happier, healthier, stronger and fitter than I have ever been. I no longer obsess over the way I look. I eat and train to feel my best, for overall health and longevity. I love having muscle and I feel more confident than ever.”

WATCH: Fitness Guru Shaun T’s 5 Minute Workout Will Make You Sweat!

“I love my life and I’m so grateful I decided to make those changes several years ago and committed to my healthy lifestyle,” she continues.

Skye encourages her followers to focus on working out and eating clean for overall health, rather than for weight loss.

“Exercise and eat nutritious food because you love yourself and know that you deserve to be your best,” she says. “Try not to focus on being ‘skinny’ and just focus on your overall health — mental and physical.”

Talking With Emily Tarver About ‘Donny’ And Her First Big-Time Role

“Donny” is a new comedy following real life ad-man, TV personality, and single father Donny Deutsch. Deutsch plays himself as the moronic host of a “Dr. Phil”-style daytime talk show under the direction of his executive producer/adult nanny, Pam (played by Emily Tarver). The show has a unique structure. It’s loosely scripted, and as a result, reads half reality show, half single camera comedy. I had the pleasure of talking to Emily Tarver about the real Donny, her character in the show, and what it’s like getting her first big time recurring role.

This is so cool! We used to hang out at UCB and now we have cool jobs!

Yeah, we’re not poor improvisers working for free!

Is this your first recurring role in a TV show?

Yes, this is my first recurring role that actually turned out to be a recurring role. I’ve booked other recurring roles that didn’t turn out to be recurring. So this is nice!

Tell me about the show and your character. You’re Donny’s executive producer?

Yes, I play the EP of the show within the show. She’s also the person in Donny’s life who keeps him in line and cleans up all the messes that he makes. The show is like “Seinfeld,” where the topic of the show within the show is normally the topic or the theme of the episode.

What has been your favorite topic?

Without giving anything away, he does one where the topic of the show within the show is about men of a later age coming out of the closet after being in a heterosexual marriage. Donny tries to be supportive of that and, in being supportive, he kind of announces that he is gay. That isn’t what he’s saying but while he’s trying to be brave for these people, he sounds like he’s coming out. So I have to clean up that mess. Not that it’s a PR nightmare; it’s just that he isn’t gay.

What’s your character trying to do on the show? Is Pam trying to get out of the show or this is her big shot as a producer?

Donny sees something in her and tells her that she is to come with him wherever he goes. And, over time, she grew into this position of alpha female and his producer of things. In real life, Donny surrounds himself with very strong women who put him in his place. And so I’m the shining symbol of that. I don’t put up with his shit and he doesn’t impress me. But she enjoys the challenge and she enjoys smacking his hand when he does something so Donny.

The show has a different type of look to it. Parts of it feel like a reality show. Others feel like “The Office.”

I definitely think that was done on purpose. A lot of people don’t know Donny or what he is about. People are like: is he an actor? A host? So the show’s trying to represent a lot of different genres. And because he’s playing himself, that reality feeling you get is because you can’t pin him down. It might be confusing for some people, but I think it’s cool to watch a show and go, “What is this?” Because the only answer is: Oh! It’s something new!

It does read very new because when you watch it, Donny doesn’t feel like an actor. He feels like the real thing and everybody else is acting around him. Was it weird acting with a guy playing himself?

Yeah! And I don’t want to toot Donny’s horn too much, but he’s just a genius and he’s so good at everything he tries. I think a big part of it is his extreme confidence. When we filmed the pilot presentation, he was giving me notes on my acting. And I was like, “Ahhh, OK.” And he was right about a lot of stuff. Being on set with him, he’ll have notes for actors and production and story and he’ll he right a lot of the time.

I also noticed that this season of TV is centered around older, distinguished antiheroes, like “The Grinder” or “Grandfathered.” “Donny” seems like a different take on it. Do you think this is a wave?

I think people are quick to categorize things because that’s how our brains work. These shows are so different and so good. And I don’t think “Donny” can be put into that category based on the lead because he’s surrounded by so many women. And Donny himself is such a feminist. He wants to tell women’s stories and have female perspectives on his life at all times. And the show reflects that. Donny doesn’t even have a male best friend.

How is doing press? Is this your first time doing big time junkets and stuff?

Yeah, we went to LA. It was just Donny and me. It was really fun.

What’s that like?

Well, you sit on stage in front of a bunch of long tables with people from different blogs on their laptops. And they have a bunch of questions. Then you go to a little room with 12 cameras. And a person has a bunch of questions. Luckily, Donny is used to it. I’m there as Emily, but also as Pam. Emily and Pam are very similar in terms of how they treat Donny. And our interaction is very organic. It’s actually been that way since my callback for the show. I had to do it with Donny while everybody on the show watched.

Are you and Donny on a texting basis?

I actually don’t have his number. And I haven’t asked for it, because I don’t want him to think that I want it. I want him to ask me for my number. And then he can be impressed that I have a 212 number.

Well, that’s a Season 2 thing.

Yeah, Season 2 for sure.

That’s odd. He seems like a guy who would need to be in constant communication with the people working close with him.

Well, I think he’s scared of me. I think he thinks I’m way cooler than him. I bet he thinks if he texted me it would bother me. I’ll never tell him that I think he’s cool. He can read it in your article.

Emily Tarver stars as Pam in USA’s “Donny“ premiering Tuesday, Nov. 10th at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Cupcakes and Cashmere Blogger Emily Schuman Is Launching a Clothing Line

Emily Schuman, the creator and life-envy-inducing blogger behind Cupcakes and Cashmere, has officially thrown her hat into the fashion designer ring.

07-culottes-cupcakes-cashmere

She revealed today in a blog post on her site that she’s launching a 40-piece collection on July 6, which will debut exclusively at Nordstrom and ShopBop. As Schuman writes, the West Coast serves as a major point of inspiration for the collection:

“Over the past 18 months, we’ve been working on our biggest project to date, one that reflects the true soul of the site and shows the evolution of the brand. On July 6, we’re launching a Cupcakes and Cashmere clothing line, selling exclusively at Nordstrom and ShopBop. The inspiration behind the fall 2015 line is centered around three thematic locations: Los Angeles (edgy, urban), San Francisco (preppy, polished), and Malibu (relaxed, trendy). We developed a line that can be mixed and matched with anything in your closet, focused on quality tailoring and materials, while hitting an affordable price point. It turned out better than I ever imagined.”

Schuman isn’t the first fashion blogger to jump on the design train—she’s following in the footsteps of folks like Rumi Neely and Elin Kling, both of whom started independent luxury basics lines (not to be confused with collaborations) within the last two years. If the images on Schuman’s site are any indication, this line will address the wants and needs of her passionate fan base—scalloped-hem shirts and skirts, leather jackets, chambray tops—quite handily.

While a full look book has yet to be released, you can head over to Cupcakes and Cashmere to get a sneak peek at what’s to come.

Fancy yourself a big Cupcakes and Cashmere fan? Check out Schuman’s gorgeous home and her jewelry collection.

First Nighter: Emily Schwend’s ‘The Other Thing,’ Melissa Ross’ ‘Nice Girl’ on Nice Women or Otherwise

Sometimes at the theater, the women wrest it from the men — not quite that often, but sometimes. This is one of those weeks. I’m talking about The Other Thing, written by Emily Schwend and directed by Lucie Tiberghien, at Second Stage’s McGinn/Cazale Theatre Uptown, and Nice Girl, written by Melissa Ross and directed by Mimi O’Donnell, at Labyrinth’s current Bank Street Theatre home. It’s a rare combination of women helming works by women, but it’s just happened.

The Other Thing has another rare attribute in that it’s a ghost story for the stage. Or is it? Kim (Samantha Soule) is interviewing Carl (John Doman) on a subject about which she’s become obsessed: ghost-hunting. She listens to him describe his adventures for some time, also encountering his son Brady (James Kautz). She’s benignly taking notes and recording right up until something unexpected and intensely theatrical occurs that puts a jarring end to the first act.

At that point Kim — it could be Samantha Soule as herself — enters from the side, waving hello to someone or someones in the audience and says she’s going to tell a genuine ghost story. She starts talking about a little girl who unfortunately is witness to her mother’s murder. What she has to say begins to sound as if it might be connected to the first-act development.

When she’s completed the story, the next act begins with Kim in her bedroom where estranged boyfriend, Thomas (Bhavesh Patel), turns up to affect a reconciliation. (He still had keys.) Although Kim eventually acquiesces, she seems to be taken over by some unexplained force for a brief time. Then and suddenly, something like the incident that ended the first act takes place.

That’s when what has slowly been suggested about Kim — her own experiences with ghosts and how they’ve affected her — speeds up. As young Brady arrives to challenge Kim’s account of her visit to his dad and its abrupt conclusion, playwright Schwend reveals her preoccupation with ghosts more clearly. The hints — okay, they’re stronger than hints — are that the bodies piling up have more to do with Kim than she owns.

Ultimately, Schwend does let on what’s happening. Indeed, before she finishes her ghost story, she may have over-explained herself. What she has to confide about Kim and the relationship to her deceased(?) mother may be more than a savvy audience needs to learn, since they’ve already correctly figured it out.

What Schwend wants to establish about ghost proliferation — that more often than not their apparent appearance can be traced to emotional conflicts — is persuasive, and she has fun presenting her case on Kris Stone’s adaptable set. With the cast doing their utmost, under Tiberghien’s guidance to raise the play’s scare barometer, she keeps the play’s engine purring.

At the same time, and underlying her storyline, is the suggestion that unresolvable animosity between the sexes is rampant. As audience members exit the theater, they may be wondering whether that eternal man-woman anger isn’t something the playwright is working out for herself or on behalf of women friends. Whether or not, Schwend has conjured a rootin’-tootin’ escapade.

There’s no doubting that Ross’s Nice Girl has the appropriate title. Josephine (Diane Davis) is definitely a nice girl — not that she can always resist the temptation to swap sarcasms with habitually disapproving mother Francine (Kathryn Kates) in the modest David Meyer-designed home they share.

Josephine is getting closer to 40 than she’d like without being married, while feigning-illness Francine is wavering, at best, on the prospect of Josephine’s tying the knot with an eligible man. That man — former classmate, Donny (Nick Cordero) — turns up not too long after Josephine has run into him at his butcher shop and later that night encounters him again at a local nightclub where office pal, the fast-moving co-worker Sherry (Liv Rooth), has dragged her.

Apparently no longer married to his high school sweetheart, Donny turns out to be as nice a guy as Josephine is a nice girl — although there is a complication involving Sherry. As Josephine and Donny renew their friendship, they begin to show signs of having a future together, not that Francine doesn’t lodge objections and not that those objections don’t carry more weight with Josephine, despite the breakthroughs she and Donny make with each other. The respective honesty about their own failings is one of the strongest of dramatist Ross’s attractions.

Ross is writing about people who live their lives in quiet desperation around the kitchen table, on the front-porch swing, at their workaday jobs and during their unrewarding pastimes. She does a commendable job of capturing the plights of people who don’t expect happiness but are willing to settle for the best they think they can get. In this, she not only includes Josephine and Francine but Donny and Sherry as well. Making her melancholy point(s), she’s aided by her cast and director O’Donnell, who couldn’t be more sympathetic to the potentially deleterious effects of niceness.

Masters Of Love – Emily Esfahani Smith – The Atlantic

Every day in June, the most popular wedding month of the year, about 13,000 American couples will say “I do,” committing to a lifelong relationship that will be full of friendship, joy, and love that will carry them forward to their final days on this earth.

Except, of course, it doesn’t work out that way for most people. The majority of marriages fail, either ending in divorce and separation or devolving into bitterness and dysfunction. Of all the people who get married, only three in ten remain in healthy, happy marriages, as psychologist Ty Tashiro points out in his book The Science of Happily Ever After, which was published earlier this year.
