Indochino Offering Free Pants to Goldman Sachs Employees

Men’s wear retailer Indochino is doing its part to help the guys from Goldman Sachs navigate their new, less formal way of dressing.
Last week, the investment banking firm made headlines when it said it was shifting to “a firmwide flexible dress code” to reflect the “more casual environment.”
Indochino jumped at the opportunity and is offering free custom chinos to any Goldman Sachs executives based in New York or New Jersey. The men need only visit one of the company’s showrooms in the tristate area — Madison Avenue, Financial District, SoHo, Brooklyn and Short Hills, N.J. — and show proof of employment and a photo ID to take advantage of the offer. From there, they will get measured, select chino color and customizations. Orders must be placed by Friday, April 26.
“Goldman Sachs is the epitome of the financial industry and its newly relaxed dress code is a reflection of more relaxed workplace standards and a shift toward personal choice and increased flexibility,” said Drew Green, president and chief executive officer of Indochino. “Starting with a great-fitting, casual pair of chinos, we’re inviting executives to refresh their wardrobes with Indochino so that they can be comfortable and confident in any situation.”

Amazon’s Employees Strike in Italy’s Logistics Hub

MILAN — Amazon Italia has faced a new wave of strikes just ahead of the busy Christmas period.
The company’s employees in the distribution and logistics plant in Castel San Giovanni, Lombardy, protested on Wednesday against long working hours and low salaries, in the wake of Amazon’s skipping round table meeting with the trade unions scheduled on the morning of Dec. 20.
Fist-Cisl general secretary Pierangelo Ranieri described Amazon’s behavior as “deplorable” on the Cisl web site. “It’s necessary for Amazon to take on social responsibility and open to negotiations with the trade union’s representatives,” he said.
Following the first strike on Nov. 24, the Fist-Cisl trade union announced a second round yesterday, set to affect the last two working hours of each shift. The strike was announced at the logistics plant on Wednesday afternoon during a workers’ assembly.
Ninety percent of the employees who attended the assembly decided to strike, totaling 210 for each of the first two shifts. Francesca Benedetti, general secretary of Fisascat-Cisl Piacenza, provided no details on the overall engagement of the strike.
Amazon, which met that trade union’s representatives on Dec. 11, has since then refused to come to an agreement, according to Benedetti. Reached by phone, the trade union’s spokeswoman

Amazon’s Employees To Strike in Italy During Black Friday

MILAN – Amazon will likely have to face more than just the usual delivery frenzy in Italy during Black Friday.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Fist-Cisl trade union, Amazon’s employees based in the distribution and logistic plant located in Castel San Giovanni, in Lombardy, will protest against long working hours and low salaries on Nov. 24.
Fist-Cisl general secretary Pierangelo Ranieri pointed out that the significant growth of the e-commerce business in Italy should push trade unions and companies to define a collective agreement guaranteeing employees sustainable working hours and adequate salaries.
Around 30 percent of the plant’s employees are expected to protest on Friday, according to Francesca Benedetti, general secretary of Fisascat-Cisl Piacenza, which announced the strike.
The trade union is also organizing a demonstration outside the Amazon plant where representatives of the labor union will be present to show their support to workers. “Employees need to feel protected because they worry about the company’s reactions,” Benedetti said.
She also added that “after a negotiation that lasted two years with Amazon, which did not take into account our requests nor did it provide any solution, it was the right time to debate issues such as health and safety conditions and

Canali to Close a Factory, Dismiss 134 Employees

MILAN — Italian men’s wear company Canali SpA has begun the dismissal procedure of 134 employees working in the label’s factory in Carate Brianza, a one-hour drive from Milan.
According to the Femca Cisl and Filctem Cgil trade unions, which released a statement announcing the measure on Monday evening, letting 130 women and four male workers go is a consequence of the company’s decision to shut down the factory.
The company initiated a structural rearrangement of the plant last year, when job-security agreements were discussed with trade unions. Back then, 73 employees were let go while 36 workers accepted a reduction of their working time, converting their contracts in part-time.
“We met with the company three weeks ago to end such a rearrangement procedure, and both sides were satisfied,” said Luisa Perego, Filctem Cgil general secretary for the Monza and Brianza area.
“After less than a month, on Monday morning, we suddenly received the announcement of the factory’s closure and the collective dismissal of the remaining 134 employees,” she added, explaining how these are mainly seamstresses and ironers who had been working at the Canali factory for 20 or 30 years. Dedicated to the manufacturing of jackets, that plant is one of the company’s seven

LVMH Holds Start-Up Style Event for Employees

ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT: Out to encourage its staff to think like entrepreneurs, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton this weekend staged the inaugural edition of its internal start-up style initiative DARE LVMH, short for Disrupt, Act, Risk to be an Entrepreneur.
The three-day event gathered 60 LVMH employees from across 40 of the group’s houses and based in 15 countries to develop pitches in a WeWork co-working space in the city’s center. They were whittled down from 500 candidatures sent in after a “call for ideas” made by the group to 4,000 of its collaborators.
Each of the 60 talents selected had to present their pitches on Friday. They were then split into 12 teams to develop the ideas that got the top votes from a jury comprised of independent consultants and LVMH executives, including the luxury group’s managing director, Antonio Belloni, and human resources director, Chantal Gaemperle. Each team was joined by an independent coach or mentor from the executive ranks of a range of LVMH houses. Also joining the teams were 20 interns and students from the group’s partnering schools.
Following a final pitching session, three teams were selected by the jury and will be mentored by members of the group’s executive committee to help

T.J. Maxx Customers And Employees Sound Off On Ivanka Trump

T.J. Maxx and Marshalls employees were instructed this week to remove all Ivanka Trump signage and mix her products with the rest of the stores’ vast offerings.

The company said its decision to stop featuring Trump’s merchandise was based on “a number of factors,” pointing out they send similar communications “from time to time.” But many took it as a signal that yet another retailer is distancing itself from the Trump family, perhaps in response to sluggish sales due to the #Grabyourwallet boycott movement. Last week, citing poor performance, both Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus stopped carrying Trump’s products.

T.J. Maxx and Marshalls have massive followings of faithful bargain-hunting shoppers. But how do they, and people who work at the stores, really feel about the whole thing?

We visited a T.J. Maxx on 57th Street in New York City, which voted overwhelmingly against Donald Trump, to find out.

Chris, a woman shopping for pantyhose, made clear her disdain for doing business with Trump partners. “You just reminded me that they didn’t stop selling it, they just stopped featuring it,” she said, putting down a pair of pantyhose and heading for the exit. “I need these for a funeral, but I won’t buy them here. Thank you for reminding me.”

Other people were less concerned. A few shoppers who declined to give their names said they didn’t feel strongly either way, or that the fact that the store carries Ivanka Trump “doesn’t matter, it’s just clothes.” One employee was ambivalent, while a recent hire said he agreed with the decision to stop featuring Trump’s line.

You shouldn’t have a clothing line if you’re involved in government, but there is a downside to this now, too.
TJ Maxx shopper Margherita

A shopper named Danielle, who only recently began frequenting TJ Maxx, was a bit conflicted. She questioned whether or not Ivanka Trump should be subject to the boycott, voicing her support for female entrepreneurship and wondering if the president’s daughter might “be getting unduly punishment for something she did not do.”

Trump was a key member of her father’s campaign, prompting groups like #GrabYourWallet to begin boycotting her product lines during the campaign season. Despite being unsure how she felt about the issue overall, Danielle said the boycott has had an effect: She’s found herself “looking at [Trump’s] products with ambivalence” as a result.

Margherita, a regular shopper at both T.J Maxx and Marshalls, said she was pleased to have been in a Marshalls store when the employees started taking down Trump signs.

“You shouldn’t have a clothing line if you’re involved in government, but there is a downside to this now, too,” she suggested. “I think it will make her merchandise more rare and valuable now that it is being sold in [fewer] stores, but I appreciate the stores making a statement.”

Focusing on merchandise displays is losing sight of what’s actually important, said a shopper named Art.

“There are more important issues than where people are putting their clothes. People are losing their healthcare… There is a laundry list of more important things to worry about. The average American can’t even afford to fucking shop at Nordstrom, anyway. People say ‘God bless America,’ but I say ‘God help America.’”

Dolce & Gabbana Accuses Philipp Plein of Stealing Employees

NO SOCIAL NICETIES: On Sunday, German designer Philipp Plein chose Instagram to expose and directly respond to accusations made by Dolce & Gabbana. The Italian company claims that Philipp Plein International has contacted around 10 of its employees, mostly sales assistants at Dolce & Gabbana’s main flagship on Via della Spiga in Milan, to lure them away and work for Plein.
According to the document, starting from mid-October, Philipp Plein’s employees Andrea Lanza Cariccio and Jaco Cuccato, who both worked for Dolce & Gabbana in the past, got in touch with said sales assistants to offer them job positions at Philipp Plein’s new showroom in Milan. Slated to open by the end of the year, the brand’s new unit is located in Corso Venezia, a few steps from Dolce & Gabbana’s other apparel stores, beauty and barber shops, restaurant and café.
Dated Nov. 30, the document also stressed how all the employees worked in the same Dolce & Gabbana boutique, have a medium to long seniority and strong relationships with a number of clients which are considered “very important for DG, for loyalty and sales volume.”
“Just received a love letter from Dolce and Gabbana’s lawyer accusing me and my people that we

SAS Health Care Center Pharmacy, SAS World Headquarters (Cary, NC)

article by Gale Adcock RN, FNP — SAS Chief Health Officer

On Tuesday, I parked my car in the SAS Health Care Center lot and before I even made it to my office door I already received three reminders of why it’s so great to work at SAS.

Taking care of business

A mother carrying a squirming toddler called out to me from the sidewalk. “Thank goodness for the Health Care Center! My nurse practitioner just checked Charlie’s rash and cleared him for child care. I can go to work!”

Parents want to make sound decisions about whether they should be at home or at work, and if their child should or shouldn’t attend child care or school. SAS flexible work environment, including unlimited sick days, certainly supports employees being home with sick kids. And, our free onsite Health Care Center makes it quick and easy to find out how sick a child actually is. With onsite infant and toddler child care centers and a busy SAS preschool, what a relief to working parents to be able to get quick peace of mind!

No copays, coinsurance or other charges for HCC visits really add up, too. Last year, SAS employees saved $ 1.28 M in avoided co-pays and coinsurance by using the free on-site HCC. That’s in addition to SAS’ health plan savings of $ 3,946,684 for the 40,534 visits made by employees and family members. Good health is good business.

Balancing is not an act

I waved to a Work/Life staff member entering the department’s front door on the other side of the Health Care Center complex. What would we do without our talented group of social workers? With easy access to experts on school issues and child development, college prep and entrance and–on the other end of the spectrum–long term care, home health and hospice, I know from personal experience that the comfort of Work/Life ‘having your back’ allows employees to concentrate at work and be as productive as possible.

Just add water

I decided to take a quick detour by the HCC Pharmacy on the way to my office. It was bustling as usual (although the wait continues to average less than 5 minutes!). Two employees seated side-by-side greeted me by name. One was obviously in distress, her forehead wrinkled, eyes squinting from the overhead lights.

“What can I do to help?” I asked.

“Oh, I’m just waiting to get my migraine medicine. I didn’t realize I was out and this darn thing started this morning, so I came right over. They said they’d have it right out to me.”

“How about a glass of water so she can take one as soon as she gets it?” asked her companion, who had obviously driven her over from another part of SAS campus.

I walked across the hall to an exam room for a plastic cup of water. And, in the 60 seconds it took me to return, she had her prescription in hand. The onsite HCC Pharmacy is almost three years old now, and we knew from the beginning it would add convenience and cost savings – and like today, another layer of compassion–to the average SAS work day.

I made it

Reaching my office door, it hit me (as it often does) even after 23 years at SAS, that we continually seek to do the right things. Onsite health care saves millions of dollars each year and makes a tremendous amount of sense each day. It may have been just a typical day at SAS, but I knew it was still special. Oh, and did I mention that it was only Tuesday?

By the way …

Laid Off Canadian Target Employees Embrace ‘Closing Time’ With Bittersweet Music Video

Target Canada closed every last one of the chain’s department stores on Sunday, but not before six employees in Victoria, British Columbia, sent theirs off with a proper farewell.

The workers — still wearing their red Target shirts — made a music video as the store packed up its last items, playing a cover of Semisonic’s “Closing Time” while seated on a dolly being dutifully, purposefully, pulled through the barren aisles.

“We poured our heart into our final goodbye through song, to a job we loved, and a building that contains so many great memories,” drummer Evan Holbein told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

According to the video’s YouTube description, the final product was shot in one take, with no practice, and “lots of improvisation.” In addition to Holbein on the drums rhythmic shopping basket, other band members included Liam McDonald on vocals and Kyle Vanderberg on guitar. Liam Kelly and Brady Zomer pulled the cart, and Eric Deibert caught the whole thing on video.

Reached for comment by the Star Tribune, Semisonic’s actual drummer, Jacob Slichter, said he found the cover to be “really powerful; that slow walk through the empty store and the sounds of things being loaded in the background.”

“I really hope these guys find jobs,” Slichter added.
