Christian Siriano Owns ‘Maybe 20 Pairs’ of Glasses, But Always Wears the Same Ones Every Day

When you think of designer Christian Siriano, it’s hard to imagine him without accessorizing with his signature black-rimmed glasses. So when the opportunity to partner with Transitions Optical to design colorful, fashion-forward lenses presented itself, Siriano knew it was a perfect match.

“It’s nice to work on something that feels very like something I wanted or needed,” Siriano told PEOPLE. “Getting dressed everyday should be a fun experience so why should your eyewear be any different? These lenses give wearers freedom of expression and comfortable vision day and night. I’m loving the product.”

The experience working with the brand, known for its smart lenses that adjust to the perfect tint when you step outdoors to protect your eyes, has even inspired Siriano to switch up his eyewear look more than he has ever before.

“I’m actually really bad that I never change my glasses. I wear my glasses and never put sunglasses on, which is a really bad habit,” he told us. “I probably have maybe 20 pairs of glasses and I literally wear the same pair every day. But with these new lenses with different colors I am going to start switching them out more because now I actually have a reason to.”

He added, “I just got a pair of really cool gold lenses that I like and there’s also a classic silver tone. I’m going to try and switch it up.”

And perfectly timed with his partnership, Siriano unveiled his own Resort 2019 collection, which included ’60s cat eye sunglasses with Transitions lenses popped in.

RELATED PHOTOS: 12 Designer Accessories That Are Actually Marked Down (and So Worth the Splurge) at Nordstrom Right Now

“I put these different lenses kind of in my typical sunglasses shape. The frames itself are modern, square and really bright colors. It was inspired by a Barbie Dream House kind of vibe so they’re fun and quirky. So all around think girls will look really cool,” he told us.

When it comes to Siriano’s personal eyewear aesthetic, the designer described his go-to look as “pretty classic and simple” with a “cool dark frame,” but admitted he wasn’t always fond of his glasses.

“I’ve had them since I was 12 or 13 and of course, when you’re young, you’re like, ‘Oh my god,’” Siriano said. “You just feel like a nerd. But now I can’t imagine not wearing them. It is so funny. It is my look now. I love how they have become such an accessory for people to wear if even if they don’t need them.”

Khloé Kardashian Feuds with Sister Kourtney for Consistently Being Late ‘Every F— Time’

Khloé Kardashian has had enough.

During a trip with her older sisters, Khloé, 33, got frustrated with Kourtney, 38, for making her and Kim, 37, wait an extra 30 minutes to leave for an event.

“What is she doing?” Khloé said to sister Kim, who gestured that she doesn’t know, in an E! clip of Sunday’s upcoming episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

In an attempt to find out Kourtney’s status, Khloé — who is expecting her first child with boyfriend Tristan Thompson — called her phone, which went directly to voicemail.

Just moments later, Kourtney casually walked into the waiting room with her phone to her ear and said, “Khlo?”

“Kourt, I’m being serious,” Khloé fired back at the eldest Kardashian sibling. “You need to figure out your life.”

Kourtney proceeded to explain that she was “on the phone with Larsa ,” but Khloé was still angered at her sister’s selfishness.

WATCH: Vacation Like a Kardashian: Here’s How Much It Will Cost You

“So you shouldn’t be on the phone! We’ve been waiting for you for 30 minutes!” Khloé said to Kourtney, who exclaimed, “I was getting ready!”

From Khloé’s perspective, Kourtney’s tardiness is obviously a pattern.

“But you’re always like this and we’re just waiting for you and waiting for you,” said Khloé.

Kourtney, who was visibly irritated, returned to her phone call with Pippen, and told her sister, “All right, I don’t have time to listen to you yell.”

Khloé clapped back, “I don’t have time to wait for you. I don’t want to go on trips if this is how you are every f—— time. You don’t care how selfish that is?”

Evidently, Kourtney wanted to ignore the issue at hand. “Shall we?” she said as she walked out of the room.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians airs Sundays (9 p.m .ET) on E!

Ranking Every Simpsons Treehouse of Horror

On Sunday, October 22, The Simpsons will air the 28th installment of the “Treehouse of Horror” series. Since Season 2, FOX has run one of these Halloween-related stories each fall. Early on, these stories were more directly horror-centric, but since then “Treehouse of Horror” has become something of a clearinghouse for stuff the writers can’t do during a “regular” episode. And we love it.

In honor of this Halloween tradition, we’ve ranked of every single “Treehouse of Horror” episode. Some of them are great. Others… well, it’s hard to bat a thousand over almost three decades. Read on for our full list…

“The Diving Bell and the Butterball” is the single-worst “Treehouse of Horror” segment ever, and it’s not particularly close. It’s essentially one long, profoundly unfunny fart joke. The final segment is an Avatar parody that, like Avatar, has not aged well.

8 Things Every Broadway Fan Should Watch, Read Or See Before The Tonys

Still deciding whether to forego rent this month and see Bette Midler in “Hello, Dolly!”? Is your obsession with Ben Platt starting to verge on unhealthy? Were you put on this earth to see Laura Linney and Cynthia Nixon swap roles every night in “The Little Foxes”?

Well, fear not, theater fans, because the Tony Awards are upon us, with host Kevin Spacey leading the festivities this year on CBS. The stars of stage and screen (alert: Cate Blanchett will be in attendance) will gather in New York City on Sunday night to celebrate the stellar year in theater.

This Broadway season took us everywhere, from working-class Pennsylvania in Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer-Prize-winning play “Sweat” to inside the hearts of a fractured family facing the HIV/AIDS crisis in “Falsettos.” Also, though he may not be nominated, but now is a good time as ever to thank the theater gods for casting Jake Gyllenhaal in “Sunday in the Park with George.”

So whether you’re a diehard fan or just tuning into this whole Broadway thing, it’s time to do your homework and check out some theater #content from around the internet about the shows nominated this year.

And for those “Hamilton” fanatics, yes, the Tonys still happen when the musical isn’t nominated, but, rest assured, Lin-Manuel Miranda will be there.

“Dear Evan Hansen” (Best Musical)

From the minds of “La La Land” songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, “Dear Evan Hansen” has won over audiences (and Hollywood) thanks to a career-defining performance from Ben Platt and catchy ballads that tug at the heartstrings. Watch Platt and co-star Laura Dreyfuss’ performance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” below.

“Sweat” (Best Play)

The early favorite to pick up the award for Best Play this Sunday, Pulitzer winner “Sweat” is the most politIcally relevant of the bunch, exploring the lives of factory workers in a small Pennsylvanian city. HuffPost recently interviewed playwright Lynn Nottage about what the play says about Trump’s America.

Nottage is also working on a companion piece titled “Floyd,” which will … twist … be a comedy.

“The Little Foxes” (Best Revival of a Play)

Laura Linney. Cynthia Nixon. Period piece. Need we say more? Set in a small town in Alabama circa 1900, both deliver tour de force performances and then switch roles on the subsequent night. They’re also close friends offstage, and brought the fun to “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” earlier this year.

“Falsettos” (Best Revival of a Musical)

We cried and then we cried some more. This musical revival about an imperfect family struggling to stay together in the wake of a divorce and a father’s coming out was a standout this season. The cast is slated to perform at the Tonys this Sunday, so read this comprehensive piece from BuzzFeed about why the show means so much to the LGBT community and how it’s more timely than ever.

“Hello, Dolly!” (Best Revival of a Musical)

As turn-of-the-century matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi, Bette Midler has been earning rave reviews for her long-awaited musical comeback to Broadway. The glorious cast album was recently released and, trust us, your ears will immediately thank you for this musical theater goodness.

Also, the movie adaptation starring Barbra Streisand is currently streaming on Netflix, so what’s the holdup?

“Jitney” (Best Revival of a Play)

From the mind of August Wilson, “Jitney” follows a group of drivers of unofficial and unlicensed taxi drivers ― called “jitneys” ―who transport residents of Pittsburgh Hill District in the 1970s because others refuse to do so. If you haven’t seen Wilson’s best known play “Fences,” the powerful film adaptation starring Viola Davis and Denzel Washington was released last year and also explores the experience and struggle of working class black Americans.

“Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812” (Best Musical)

This interactive musical needs to be seen to be believed and it’s far too complicated to explain (seriously, it’s adapted from a section of War & Peace), so check out the cast, including Josh Groban, performing two songs on the “Today Show.”

“The Present” (Cate Blanchett for Best Actress)

No one plays morally complex women like Cate Blanchett, and the Oscar winner is in fine form in this surprisingly modern adaptation of an unfinished Chekhov play. Directed by the actress’ husband Andrew Upton, the standout scene features a drunk Blanchett pouring vodka all over herself, as she dances on a dinner table. Watch his interview with the cast below, and for more vodka and Blanchett, check out “Blue Jasmine.”

The Tony Awards air at 8 p.m. June 11 on CBS.

The ‘Despacito’ Lyric Guide That Every Non-Spanish Speaker Needs

Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” became the No. 1 song in the country last week, a feat that hasn’t been achieved by a Spanish-language song since the “Macarena” in 1996.

The hit’s original version features reggeaton superstar Daddy Yankee. But in April, Justin Bieber decided to join the worldwide phenomenon and collaborated on a remix that quickly climbed the U.S. charts.

Bieber sings in Spanish for the first time on the track, and Fonsi said the Canadian artist learned the lyrics phonetically in less than a week. The Spanish lyrics didn’t seem to stick, however, as the singer appeared to forget all the words to the song during a New York City club performance on Tuesday.

We get it, “Despacito” can be challenging for non-Spanish speakers. That’s why HuffPost Latino Voices is giving English-speaking fans a quick lyric guide.

Here’s a rough translation of what the No. 1 song in the country is actually talking about. And yes, we’re using the lyrics from the original version

“Despacito” or “Slowly”

Fonsi:

Sí, sabes que ya llevo un rato mirándote,
Tengo que bailar contigo hoy.
Vi que tu mirada ya estaba llamándome,
Muéstrame el camino que yo voy.

Yes, you know I’ve been looking at you for a while,

I have to dance with you today.

I saw that your look was already calling me,

show me the way and I’ll go.

¡Oh!

Oh!

You, you’re the magnet and I’m the metal.

I’m getting closer and coming up with a plan,

just thinking about it accelerates my pulse.

I’m already enjoying it more than normal.

All of my senses are asking for more,

this has to be done without a hurry.

[Chorus]
Despacito
Quiero respirar tu cuello despacito.
Deja que te diga cosas al oído,
para que te acuerdes si no estás conmigo.
Despacito
Quiero desnudarte a besos despacito.

[Chorus]
Slowly

I want to breathe your neck slowly.

Let me whisper things in your ear,

that you’ll remember when you’re not with me.

Slowly

I want to undress you with kisses slowly.

Sign the walls of your labyrinth

and turn your body into a manuscript.

I want to see your hair dance, I want to be your rhythm

I want you to show my mouth your favorite places.

Let me surpass your danger zone,

until it makes you scream

and makes you forget your last name.

Daddy Yankee:

Quiero, quiero, quiero ver cuánto amor a ti te cabe.
Yo no tengo prisa, yo me quiero dar el viaje.
Empezamos lento, después salvaje.

Pasito a pasito, suave suavecito.
Nos vamos pegando, poquito a poquito.
Cuando tú me besas con esa destreza
veo que eres malicia con delicadeza.
Pasito a pasito, suave suavecito.
Nos vamos pegando, poquito a poquito.
Y es que esa belleza es un rompecabezas,
pero pa’ montarlo aquí tengo la pieza.
¡Oye!

If I ask you for a kiss, come on, give it to me. I know you’re thinking about it.

I’ve spent a while trying, mami, this is give and giving.

You know your heart with me goes bam-bam.

You know what this babe wants from me is bam-bam.

Come, taste my mouth to see how it tastes to you.

I want, want, want to see how much love fits in you.

I’m in no rush, I want to take the ride.

We’ll start slow and then go wild.

Step by step, gentle gently.

We’ll get closer, little by little.
When you kiss me with that skill,

I see that you are malice with finesse.

Step by step, gentle gently.

We’ll get closer, little by little.
This beauty is a puzzle,

but to put it together I have the piece.
Oye!

[CHORUS, 2x]

Luis Fonsi:
Despacito
Vamo’ a hacerlo en una playa en Puerto Rico,
hasta que las olas griten “¡Ay, Bendito!”
para que mi sello se quede contigo.
¡Bailalo!

Slowly

We’re going to do it on a beach in Puerto Rico,

until the waves scream “Oh, Lord!”

so that my seal [likely meaning mark or impression] stays with you.

Dance!

OK, now you’re ready to sing along with Fonsi and D.Y.!

Black-ish’s Yara Shahidi: ‘I Got Into Every College I Applied to’

Yara Shahidi hasn’t announced where she’ll be attending college, but she has quite a few options to choose from.

The 17-year-old Black-ish star revealed in an interview with Seventeen on Monday that she only got acceptance letters back — no rejections — from the schools that she applied to.

“I did get all of my college acceptances and I’m keeping them close to the belt as of right now, but I got into every college I applied to,” Shahidi, who plays Zoey on the ABC comedy, shared.

“So that’s really exciting. I found all of that out last week,” she said, and added, “My college plans are all up in the air, but I will choose within the next month.”

Last October, Shahidi told PEOPLE that she plans to defer college for at least a year. “I know when Malia Obama announced , she got a lot of slack, but I feel like what’s interesting is I know so many people that are deferring. It’s more than to just roam around or just sit down and stare at a wall, but it will also give me an opportunity to work,” Shahidi said. “I’ve been working more than half of my life and that’s always been balanced with school and all of the other responsibilities, so to have a year to focus on work and to focus on specified interests will be nice before I pick a career and choose what I want to study and my life path.”

“I think no matter what, I know that I want to go to college. I know that I’m going to defer a year and I’m willing to have a more unorthodox college experience, but at a certain point I want to be on a campus,” she continued.

FROM COINAGE: The True Cost of Famous TV Apartments

The teen actress told the publication that although she has not yet decided on a minor, she definitely wants to focus on two majors.

“I want to study as much as possible and a double major is the solution,” said Shahidi, who plans to double major in African American studies and sociology.

As for what the ABC starlet aspires to be, she lists both Solange Knowles and her TV mom Tracee Ellis Ross as two life role models — for differing reasons.

“There’s so many different people for different reasons. I think when it comes to fashion and just her aura, I like Solange. And then also Tracee is such a great example. She went to Brown, she got her honorary doctorate from Brown, what what,” Shahidi said.

“There are so many people, who have found ways to balance school, life, career — all of it,” she continued. “And what I realized is that even with college, my wonder and desire to study sociology stems from the same desire I have to be an actor just in the understanding of humans and I realize that’s what I’m fascinated in — understanding humans.”

Black-ish airs Wednesdays (9:30 p.m. ET) on ABC.

Amber Heard Wants Every Closeted Gay Man In Hollywood To Come Out

Amber Heard has no time for closeted gay celebrities.

Speaking at the The Economist’s Pride and Prejudice Summit March 23, the “Magic Mike XXL” and “The Danish Girl” star recalled the media firestorm that she faced after coming out as bisexual in 2010. In the end, the 30-year-old actress said that opening up about her sexuality was worth it ― and she encouraged other LGBTQ stars and public figures to follow her lead.

“Even though everyone around me strongly advised me against it, it was just wrong. I would’ve rather go down for being who I am than to have risen for being something I’m not,” Heard told The Economist’s Deputy Editor Tom Standage.

She finally confirmed her sexuality, she said, when an After Ellen reporter asked her about the status of her relationship with then-girlfriend Tasya van Ree at the 2010 GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. “I refused to not bring my partner at the time, but no one ever asked me about it,” Heard said. “An outlet specifically asked me who I was there with that night and who that person was to me and I just answered honestly.”

It didn’t take long for Heard to, as she put it, “realize the gravity” of what coming out would do. She acknowledged having some initial setbacks, including Hollywood execs who suddenly doubted her credibility as a romantic leading lady. Still, she noted, “While my private life is valuable to me, I knew that, being in Hollywood, I had a particular responsibility… I saw myself as being in this unique position with this unique gift. Any unique gift comes with unique responsibility.”

When Standage noted that many of the best-known LGBTQ celebrities to come out in recent years were women, Heard agreed. “Women are almost entirely doing this on our own,” she said. “While it is apparently harder for men, I would argue, also, that is harder because there are no men challenging that. If women can do it and we can change the way that this conversation is had in a large scale, then men should be able to do it.”

Heard, who said she’d like to play an LGBTQ character in a movie moving forward, then added, “If every gay man that I know personally came out in Hollywood tomorrow… then this would be a non-issue in a month. We’d be hard-pressed to point the finger at anyone.”

Watch Standage’s full interview with Heard below.

8 Things The Happiest Couples Do Every Morning

Mornings can feel frantic with everyone trying to get out of bed and out the door on schedule.

But making time ― even just a few minutes! ― to connect with your partner before the chaos of the day sets in can make a big difference in your relationship. Here’s what the happiest couples do daily, according to Huffpost readers and marriage experts.

1. They make eye contact.

“We brush our teeth together. For those few minutes we look into each other’s eyes. We touch each other, a hand on the waist, hand on the cheek, head on the chest.” ― reader Brandi W.

2. They cuddle.

“My husband leaves for work before I can even imagine getting up and being a fully functional human being. So every morning after he’s gotten ready, he climbs back in bed and pulls me in close. And that five minutes, being close to one another, breath by breath, it’s the best way to start our day.” ― Meg Conley, marriage blogger

3. They try to get up around the same time when they can.

“Too many couples have two completely different morning routines and often barely see or speak to each other in the morning. I know of many partners who don’t even get up before their significant other is out of the house for the day ― and it’s not because he leaves at 4 a.m. or because she worked a swing shift. They just sleep late. As a couple, they don’t make it important to connect at the beginning of the day.” ― Dr. Kurt Smiththerapist who specializes in counseling for men

4. They enjoy a cup of coffee of tea together.

“My wife and I have breakfast together sitting on the front porch, side by side on the love seat. Even if it’s just for 15 minutes, we have our coffee and talk about plans for the day and watch the birds.” ― reader Steve T.

5. They kiss goodbye.

“It so important to us that we always show affection before one of us leaves. Usually he leaves for work an hour before I wake up so he always says goodbye with a kiss on my head. It’s not about me needing the affection but more so knowing he is thinking of me before he heads to work.” ― reader Rebecca C.

6. They put down their devices.

“Even if we only have five to 10 minutes before one or the other of us has to rush out the door or get on the phone, we sit down to have tea. No phones or iPads allowed. No claiming we don’t have time. Maybe we talk about something coming up in our day or something in the news. Maybe we just sit quietly. With life being as crazy busy as it is, it’s a way to slow down and connect before we launch into the day.” ― Winifred M. Reilly, marriage and family therapist

7. They divvy up the morning chores.

“Getting the kids up, ready and off to school every morning can be a real chore. Nothing says that this has to be the mom’s job, but frequently it is ― or at least the majority of it. Couples who are happier share these kinds of family and parental responsibilities. Working as a team in the morning builds connection and relationship happiness that carries through the day.” ― Dr. Kurt Smith

8. They smile, no matter how tired they are.

Mornings can be hectic for most people but it’s important to be able to at least smile at your partner. Even when trying to get ready and out the door, many happy couples find it natural to give a quick smile when interacting with their partner.” ― Dr. Marie Land, psychologist

What Every Person Who Loves A Child Of Divorce Should Know

There are fundamental truths most 5-year-olds understand about the world: The sky is blue. The grass is green. Your family consists of you, possibly siblings and your parents. But that truth is altered if your parents split up.

I was in kindergarten when my parents got divorced. They worked hard to make my reality as normal as possible, but even at a young age I knew something was different about my family compared to my friends’ families.

I wouldn’t change anything about our situation. My mom was my best friend growing up and is to this day; my dad got remarried and he and I gained an amazing family who we can’t picture our world without. The divorce didn’t give me a terrible life. What it did give me was invaluable insight ― especially when it comes to relationships.

The following is what people should know about loving a child of divorce, culled from my personal experience and expert advice:

We worry about commitment.

People whose parents split up might fret more about their serious relationship dissolving ― perhaps seemingly out of nowhere. That’s because our view of commitment may be altered by the divorce, according to Jane Greer, a New York-based marriage and sex therapist.

“Be aware that their feelings about commitment and getting married may have been impacted by the divorce,” Greer told The Huffington Post. “It might have made them reluctant to take the next step … They may feel that it won’t work out.”

We crave relationship validation.

Kids of divorce may feel a greater need to know where they stand with their partner. The best way to do that? Open communication.

“They will do better when they have clarity about where things are going in the relationship,” Greer said. “Feeling secure allows for more openness and more personal sharing.”

And require patience ― particularly around holidays.

Two Christmases and two birthdays may seem like a sweet deal, but they also require a lot of coordination. We worry about this the first time we bring our significant other home because it can get a little hectic and we don’t want it to scare them away. But trust us, the reward of spending time with so many people (and the food and presents, of course) is worth it in the end.

Fights will sometimes scare us.

Admittedly, kids who’ve grown up around fighting parents may not be the best at handling conflict. More specifically, we may be a bit averse to it because we fear we might be abandoned altogether.

“Children of divorce can sometimes be more sensitive during arguments as they may have witnessed their parents arguing in front of them,” Jacqueline Newman, a New York-based family law specialist, told HuffPost. “They may take more extreme positions and think that a small tiff could be the end ― simply because as children the fights they did see led to the ending of the relationship.”

But we know it’s okay to call it quits if the relationship isn’t working out.

Some of us may have come to understand in time why our parents decided to separate and know that it was ultimately the best decision for everyone involved. We may carry this lesson into our own relationships. We know divorce ― eventually ― isn’t the end of the world.

Our family dynamics will likely be more complicated than yours.

Some kids of divorce may be closer to one parent than another. This could depend on factors like the terms of divorce, who became the main caregiver and even how other siblings interacted with each parent, Newman said.

“I recommend that when dating someone who has this type of family connection that you try to understand it rather than be annoyed by it,” she said.

We’re resilient.

If our parents divorced when we were younger, we had to bounce back from a heavy situation earlier than most people our age.

“I think that children of divorce are often more resilient than children who grow up in intact families, because they have to be,” Newman said. “Depending on how the parents handle the situation, many children grow up way faster than they should and have to handle adult emotions in a way that they do not understand.”

We love hard.

Kids of divorce treat relationships with the gravity they deserve. We not only want love to be successful ― we’ll do everything we can to make it happen. That includes not settling, staying open and working through our own issues to make sure we’re approaching our unions in the healthiest possible way.

Because ultimately, we know relationships are worth it.

The Honest, Not-At-All-Romantic Wedding Vows Every Couple Should Make

The best wedding vows are optimistic and absurdly romantic, right?

Not exactly, says philosopher Alain de Botton. In a new video on his The School of Life YouTube channel, the British author suggests that couples would set themselves up for greater marital success if they stuck to more honest, pragmatic vows ― for instance, “Sure, I’ll marry you but it’s with the full knowledge that you’ve got *major* flaws.” He says:

“We should good-naturedly admit that the person we’re marrying is very far from perfect and articulate all the ways in which they will prove irritating, difficult, sometimes irrational and oftentimes, unable to sympathize or understand us. However, it’s vital that we interpret these flaws as unavoidable; no one else would be better and we are as bad. We are simple a very flawed species. We must conclusively kill the idea that things would be ideal with any other creature on the planet.”

Not exactly the stuff of rom-coms but if you’ve read de Botton’s viral New York Times piece titled, “Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person,” you know the Brit considers sweeping, overly romantic views of love deeply problematic.

As he sums it up in the video, “the only root to a tolerable marriage is to accepting that there can only ever be a ‘good-enough marriage.’”

Watch the video for more. (And if you’re looking for more realist wedding vow inspiration, read the vows divorce attorneys think more couple should commit to on the big day.)

Man Vows To Eat Jason Segel’s Picture Every Day Until Actor Eats His

Chew on this: A Toronto man wants a taste of celebrity and he’ll stomach anything to get it.

Noah Maloney, who posts YouTube videos under the tasteful and not-gross-at-all moniker of “Dog Shit,” has vowed to eat a picture of actor Jason Segel every day until the actor returns the, well, you can’t really call it a favor.

Maloney posted his first video on Thursday and he spends four minutes and 21 seconds chewing on Segel’s headshot.

HuffPost has reached out to Maloney and Segel to get their reactions, but both have kept their lips sealed thus far.

The complete video is above, but you can watch the best parts through the magic of “GIF-arama.”

Here he is taking his first bites.

Now he’s working on the head.

You can’t eat that much fibrous paper without a water break.

Keeping your mouth closed when chewing up a photo of actor Jason Segel is the epitome of good manners.

Of course, when your nose itches, it’s hard not to scratch.

Mmmm, the last bite is just as good as the first (which probably wasn’t that good to begin with).

Every Game Confirmed to Release in 2018

We still have an entire year of releases staring us down here in January 2017, but things change, deadlines shift, and games often slip further into the future.

2017 may just be getting started, but believe it or not, 2018 is already starting to take shape. These are the games currently announced for release during 2018.

Currently in development, Koji Igarashi’s return to a classic Castlevania: Symphony of the Night-style game was met with a great amount of enthusiasm, going on to break records and earn more than $ 5 million on Kickstarter.

12 Things Every ‘Type A’ Person Wants You To Know

2017-01-12-1484257821-2930246-12ThingsEveryTypeAPersonWantsYouToKnowHP.jpeg

Robert Frost once said, “The brain is a wonderful organ; it starts working the moment you get up in the morning and does not stop until you get into the office.” He certainly wasn’t thinking about Type A people when he said that. They barrel into the office like they’re racing for a pot of gold, and they never seem to lose momentum. It’s as if they’re driven by a motor that never shuts off.

We each have our own understanding of what it means to have a Type A personality, but what does this term really mean and where did it come from? It actually started in a waiting room shared by a pair of cardiologists. The doctors noticed that their chairs didn’t have wear on the backs as expected–the wear was only visible on the front edge of the seats and the armrests, suggesting that patients were literally waiting on the edge of their seats, ready to jump up the second their names were called.

So, the cardiologists–Doctors Friedman and Rosenman–wanted to find out if the strange wear pattern on their chairs was because impatient people are more prone to heart disease. They discovered that their hunch was correct. They also found that people’s personalities tend to lean in one of two directions, which they labeled Type A and Type B.

2017-01-12-1484257884-1847761-12ThingsEveryTypeAPersonWantsYouToKnowHP2.jpeg

Most think of Type A people as driven and highly strung and Type B people as carefree and even-keeled, but there’s so much more to it. Type As, in particular, are often misunderstood, as we just don’t understand the motivation behind their behavior.

To fully grasp what it means to be Type A, you need to hear it from the horse’s mouth. Don’t take my word for it–let’s see what they have to say:

1. We believe that winning is the only option.
We’re really hard on ourselves. Our desire to do our best often morphs into a desire to be the best. After all, if someone else does something better than us, then we mustn’t have been trying hard enough, right? This ensures that even the most mundane activities become a competition.

2. We live and die by our goals.
We don’t do anything “just because.” There’s an end aim for everything. That morning cup of coffee? The goal is to wake up. Half an hour of Pokemon Go at lunch? It’s about squeezing in some exercise and capturing more Pokemon than our friend down the hall. Heaven help anyone who slows us down or gets in our way. We’re nothing if we don’t reach our goals.

3. We’re always stressed.
Achieving our goals is so important to us that we often get stressed out about our progress. It’s that specter of wasted time or missed opportunities hanging over our heads that gets us all riled up, which can be really hard on our emotional intelligence (EQ).

4. We squeeze something into every possible moment. It may seem hypocritical that we’re sometimes late even though the rest of the time we’re impatiently drumming our fingers, waiting for meetings to start on time. The problem is that we try to squeeze a task into every possible minute, and sometimes we overdo it. In our determination to avoid downtime, we sometimes inadvertently create downtime for other people.

5. We want you to get to the point.
Skip the long preamble; if we have questions, we’ll ask. There’s no need to waste time on the setup when you have something important to tell us–just tell us. The theme here is efficiency; we’re interested in hearing the main points so we can begin taking action.

6. We hate to wait. We don’t hate being stuck at a red light or cooling our heels in a doctor’s waiting room because we think we’re too good to wait. We just like to be efficient with our time and don’t like things getting in our way. Every minute spent waiting is a minute we could have spent doing something productive. It’s a minute that we’ll never get back.

7. We’re conscientious.
Like “later,” “good enough” isn’t part of our vocabulary. Things are either right or they’re wrong. And they always, always have to be right. No matter what we’re doing, we care too much to settle for mediocrity.

8. We multitask. We’re not being rude, and we’re not bored. We just have a sense that the value of our day is measured by how much we get done, and we accomplish more when we do two (or more!) things at once.

9. We have a tough time relaxing. Relaxation isn’t a measurable goal, and it feels like a waste of time when nothing is getting done. It’s very difficult for us to sit around and “just be”; instead, we prefer to be actively “becoming” whatever lies at the end of our current ambition. Anything else amounts to lost time.

10. We have an unrealistic sense of urgency. From our perspective, “now” is the only time that exists. There’s no sense in putting something off till another time. While that’s often a good thing, we tend to give trivial issues a greater sense of urgency than they deserve.

11. We follow a schedule. Our time is carefully orchestrated so that each day we accomplish what we intended. Again like “later,” “whenever” isn’t part of our vocabulary. Everything gets scheduled and added to lists, and we take great satisfaction in ticking all the boxes.

12. We’re restless. Our motors are always running, so when we have to idle, that excess energy manifests in various nervous habits, such as fidgeting or biting our nails. Don’t worry, we’re not freaking out. This is normal behavior for us.

Bringing It All Together

We know that we can be awfully hard on everybody, but we’re even harder on ourselves. This may be difficult to see because no one else is privy to the perfectionist that’s goading or berating our every move inside our heads. Just know this: We care–we care a lot–and we really are sorry if our personality makes us hard to get along with sometimes.

What other characteristics set Type A people apart? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below, as I learn just as much from you as you do from me.

6 Things Every 20-Something Bride Needs To Know

For BRIDES, by Sandy Malone.

There are things every bride and groom should know, and then there are wedding planning tips that are specific to couples in a certain age range. Yes, you’ll probably be inviting guests of all ages to your wedding, but if you’re in your mid-20s, for example, there are some unique challenges presented by the general age-group of most of your friends.

So before you start announcing your wedding plans, or signing any contracts, consider the below kernels of wisdom for 20-something couples — putting these things in perspective before you start planning will make the process a whole lot easier… for everybody involved.

1. Don’t Neglect the School Calendar A number of your friends may still be in college, graduate, or professional school, so finding a wedding date that everyone can attend will be pretty much impossible. But keeping the general school calendar in mind will help you ensure more of your besties can RSVP in the affirmative. While your friends might not have school-age children yet, you may have some VIP guests (cousins or other family members) with tricky school schedules to work around as well.

2. Hotels Should Vary in Price While it’s cool to have everybody stay together at the same hotel or resort for your wedding weekend, keep in mind that you need to offer your guests a variety of price points. For many of your 20-something contemporaries, nobody is paying their credit card bills for them anymore, and the actual cost of your wedding weekend could be more than they earn in a paycheck, if you’re not careful.

3. Some Guests Might Not Know the Etiquette Rules Traditional wedding etiquette is fading out, but while you might realize how tacky it is to fail to RSVP, or ask to bring a date to a wedding, not all your younger guests have been privy to the same code of conduct. Expect to have to make a number of follow-up phones calls for guests who haven’t told you for certain if they accept the invitation, and be prepared with a polite, but negative, response when your friends ask if they can bring a plus-one.

4. Paper is Still King When it Comes to Weddings You can do as much as you like with your wedding website, hashtag-generators, and special weddings apps, but at the end of the day, in my professional opinion, you should provide the most important wedding information on actual paper — especially if you want anybody over the age of 35 to actually see it. Your 20-something friends might be happy checking the wedding schedule throughout the weekend from their phones, but your older relatives will feel completely lost.

5. Not Everyone Needs a Plus One Most of your friends do not require the privilege of a plus-one invitation to bring a date. Unless they’re in a serious, long-term relationship, or living with someone, it’s perfectly acceptable to just invite your friend without a guest. While your single friends serious might LIKE to bring a date, you have no obligation to extend that invitation — and incur the additional expense.

6. Compromising to Stay Within Your Budget is Crucial Many 20-somethings just simply aren’t able to afford the wedding of their dreams (unless they happen to be independently wealthy) — they just haven’t been working and saving up for that long. It’s difficult for someone in their 20s to afford day-to-day living expenses while still managing to pay for a “dream wedding” without some help (usually from their parents). Some couples might opt to have extra-long engagements in order to save up for the big day and be able to pay for most of it themselves. Regardless, it’s important for couples to remember that they’ll have to be open to compromising on what they want as well as setting a realistic wedding budget.

The Invaluable Lessons Of ‘Watership Down,’ A Dark Classic Every Kid Should Read

“I do not believe in talking down to children,” Richard Adams explained in an interview with The Guardian last year.

This, coming from an author widely known for writing the most violent “talking rabbit book” in history, is an understatement. Watership Down, his 1972 adventure novel, is not only what happens when a writer refuses to talk down to children. It’s what happens when a writer refuses on all counts to shelter kids from the brutal, melancholy realities of our nonfictional world. It’s what happens when a writer decides to give his young readers an obvious, but invaluable lesson: loss, obstacles and chaos, whether we choose them or not, are part of life.

Adams, who died on Tuesday at the age of 96, has recounted the birth of Watership Down many times. In the late 1960s, he ― then a civil servant in the U.K. who’d never written fiction in his life ― would entertain his two daughters on the way to school by telling them stories that revolved around a particularly troubled warren of rabbits. “Once there were two rabbits called Hazel and Fiver,” he’d begin, telling tales captivating in their darkness, involving poison, snares and attack dogs.

Eventually, encouraged by his daughters, Adams put pen to paper and submitted a surprisingly vicious and rabbit-filled manuscript to publishers. Rejected seven times (”They felt the language was too grown up,” Adams explained in a Reddit AMA, “yet the older children wouldn’t like it because it was about rabbits!”), it was finally accepted by Rex Collings, the tiny and summarily lucky publishing house that would go on to see the book sell in the millions.

Hazel and Fiver are names that pique the ears of those who’ve navigated through Adams’ award-winning, 400-plus-page book. Brothers, they lived in a bucolic landscape meant to mimic the Berkshire Downs of Adams’ childhood. Spurred on by an apocalyptic vision Fiver has, they, along with a small group of other rabbits, decide to leave their vulnerable home in search of a new one. The Odyssean journey is neither smooth nor assuring. The distinct characters, so carefully anthropomorphized, are never blindly valiant as a result.

A particularly jarring passage of Watership Down describes the pure fear and anxiety Fiver experiences after involuntarily parting ways with his brother Hazel halfway through the book.

In the burrow, Fiver slept and woke uneasily through the heat of the day, fidgeting and scratching as the last traces of moisture dried out of the earth above him. Once, when a trickle of powdery soil fell from the roof, he leaped out of sleep and was in the mouth of the run before he came to himself and returned to where he had been lying. Each time he woke, he remembered the loss of Hazel and suffered once more the knowledge that had pierced him as the shadowy, limping rabbit disappeared in the first light of morning on the down.

Because of its subject matter (talking rabbits), and perhaps the fact that many first encounter Adams on a high school reading list, some fans might classify Watership Down as a children’s book. Adams shrugs off the label entirely. “I don’t believe there should be such a thing as a children’s book,” he explained during a Reddit AMA. “A book is a book is a book,” he supposes in other interviews.

In 1974, New York Times critic Richard Gilman directly questioned the intended audience of Adams’ book, claiming, “I can’t imagine many readers under 13 or 14, an age when the lines between juvenile and adult fiction begin to blur, having the patience and grasp of extended allegorical strategies to persevere to the end of a 426‐page epic about a community of rabbits.”

Gilman’s lack of faith in the reading comprehension of teenagers aside, his criticism missed the point. Kids on the precipice of adulthood should be encouraged to read books like Watership Down whether they have the patience for it or not. Humanity wrought through the eyes of bunnies is exactly the kind of fantasy readers under 13 or 14 should be exposed to. The kind of twisted, alien plot that sits in our heads for decades, becoming brighter and more poignant as you age and better empathize with moments like Fiver’s. The kind of book that unravels slowly, painfully, to reveal a story so realistic it’s easy to forget you’re dealing with talking rabbits and make-believe.

“Readers like to be upset, excited and bowled over,” Adams continued in his 2015 interview with The Guardian, remembering his early literary preferences. “I can remember weeping when I was little at upsetting things that were read to me, but fortunately my mother and father were wise enough to keep going.”

Of course, not all mothers and fathers are. Many want to shade their kids from the harsh realities of life, a natural instinct hardly worth criticizing here. Some children come face to face with loss regardless ― be it physical, financial, psychological. They are forced to understand grief and resentment firsthand. They are forced to understand that hard work and persistence and focused belief don’t always yield epic outcomes. But others, nestled safely, are not.

Fiction, thankfully, can give us the gift of empathy. The kind of empathy your protective parents might not be able to impart. Adams, though a parent himself, aware of the fear his stories instilled in his own daughters, remains cooly detached from Watership Down readers. Through his writing, he’s not attempting to provide solace or security. He’s attempting to forge stories that, like the kind he read in his youth (by Edgar Allan Poe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Algernon Blackwood), made him feel sad and frightened. That familiarized him with the cold, cloying feeling of worry.

Why? Well, Adams, so unaware that he was crafting a classic when he first started sharing stories of Hazel and Fiver, answers the question early on in his book.

To come to the end of a time of anxiety and fear! To feel the cloud that hung over us lift and disperse ― that cloud that dulled the heart and made happiness no more than a memory! This at least is one joy that must have been known by almost every living creature.

11 Qualities Every Truly Happy Relationship Has In Common

Chemistry and physical attraction may have brought you and your partner together, but you need more than a spark to maintain a happy, lasting relationship.

With that in mind, we asked marriage therapists to share the one quality they believe couples need to develop in order to stay together for the long haul. Here’s what they had to say.

1. Compassion

“You have to be able to put yourself in your partner’s shoes. Compassion toward your partner allows him or her to feel respected, appreciated and cared for and it fuels the connection, intimacy and partnership. Think of it as the essential food that every healthy relationship needs.” ― Carin Goldstein, a marriage and family therapist in Sherman Oaks, California

2. Compromise

“So many couples believe that a lack of problems, or the ability to anticipate and avoid them, is a key to a happy relationship. But in my experience, it’s not so much about avoiding problems so much as it is about being able to solve them together. Problems are always going to happen, just as life does. Knowing you can face them together keeps a relationship strong and healthy.” ― Alicia HClark, a psychologist in Washington, D.C.

3. A sense of humor

“The strongest couples I’ve met have the capacity to laugh at themselves. When a partner can laugh about their own messiness or their wish to have the table set in a certain way, they can communicate what they want without turning their partner into the enemy. Laughing at ourselves instead of judging makes the journey entertaining instead of a constant battle.” ― Ryan Howes, a psychologist in Pasadena, California

4. Trust

“As a specialist in infidelity, I can tell you that trust is the most important thing in a marriage. It takes years to build and a second to break. But it’s more than just sexual fidelity. A spouse is trusted with so much: fears, vulnerabilities, painful wounds from childhood. In a good marriage, a spouse discloses these innermost thoughts and trusts that it won’t be used against them in future arguments.” ― Caroline Madden, a marriage therapist and the author of After A Good Man Cheats: How to Rebuild Trust & Intimacy with Your Wife

5. Positivity

“We all need to be praised and appreciated but we so often get the opposite ― criticism ― even from our partner. Positivity is needed in relationships, especially ones that have grown past the honeymoon stage. Whether it’s a simple ‘thank you’ or ‘I love you’ or a specific compliment for something done, we all need to hear it. When we praise our partner we strengthen our connection, bond and love.” ― Kurt Smith, a therapist who specializes in counseling for men

6. Intimacy

“Sexual and emotional intimacy is the bright shiny star of relationships. Intimacy is the difference between your relationship with your barista and your relationship with your spouse. You build intimacy over time. Intimacy is the feeling of belonging and being loved. It’s the feeling of being known and understood. It’s the feeling of being accepted and appreciated. If you have ever experienced or heard someone describe their relationship as hollow or empty, it’s probably because it’s lacking intimacy.” ― Laura Heck, a marriage and family therapist in Salt Lake City, Utah

7. Mutual respect

“Life tends to throw some unexpected curveballs along the course of a relationship. The one quality that consistently helps couples through adversity or tragedy is mutual respect. Self-esteem is essential to feel secure and satisfied with yourself so it makes sense that a high esteem and respect for your partner is an essential ingredient in a lasting relationship, both in joyous and challenging times.” ―  Elisabeth J. LaMotte, a psychotherapist and founder of the DC Counseling and Psychotherapy Cente

8.  Presence

“Being present is more than just putting down your devices and paying attention ― it’s showing that you’re deeply interested in the inner life of your partner and want to make their world better in any way you can. Being present means freely giving your partner the gift of your full focus and being there for them in a way that’s deeper than just being physically present. It means seeing things from their point of view and not just your own.” ― Debra Campbell, a psychologist and couple’s therapist in Melbourne, Australia

9. Love

“You need to love, honor and cherish one another. These vows are what keep people together happily over the long term. Here’s a brief rundown on what each mean: ‘To love’ means you demonstrate your love. Love is a verb ― an action word. There is no other way to show your spouse you love them except through action. We love through physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service and gifts. ‘To honor’ is to respect the one you love. You approach them in conversation in a way that shows you want the best for them and don’t want to harm them. ‘To cherish’ means to show your S.O. how much you value them. You treat them as the special person they are – your one and only.” Becky Whetstone, a marriage family therapist in Little Rock, Arkansas

10. Understanding

“There’s no problem you can’t resolve when you’re listening to each other and acting like a team. Create regular times during the week when you can talk uninterrupted and don’t let a week go by without a date night. Keep listening and understanding each other. Every ounce of listening effort will pay off tenfold.” ― M. Gary Neuman, a psychotherapist based in Miami Beach, Florida

11.  Friendship

“Couples who are good friends know each other well, give each other the benefit of the doubt and are fond of one another. When you take the time to strengthen your friendship, you’re more successful long-term. Making friendship a priority will help you weather any storm that comes your way.” ― Danielle Kepler, a therapist in Chicago, Illinois
