EXCLUSIVE: Nick Graham Returning to Joe Boxer as Creative Consultant

Nick Graham has always had a soft spot for Joe Boxer, the underwear brand that put him on the map more than three decades ago. And now, he’s back.
Iconix Brand Group Inc., which purchased the Joe Boxer brand in 2005, has hired Graham as a creative consultant to spearhead a premium collection under the Joe Boxer name that will be targeted to specialty and department stores. The Joe Boxer brand is sold primarily at Sears.
This is the second major move that Iconix’s chief executive officer Bob Galvin has masterminded for the company’s brands in the past few weeks. Zoo York, another of its labels, is bringing back its trio of founders to create a special Founders collection for the skateboarding brand this fall.
“I’ve known, followed and admired Nick for a long time,” Galvin said. “He’s a true marketing and creative visionary and he’s providing us with valuable insight that will help us bring Joe Boxer to a new generation. Look at what we’ve done with Zoo York. There’s so much love between these brands and their founders. Nick has so much passion for what Joe Boxer stands for so that’s why we wanted to bring him back.”

Louis Vuitton X, the eye-caching, Beverly Hills pop-up and Instagram hot spot that’s impossible to miss on the corner of Rodeo Drive and South Santa Monica Boulevard, is being extended until Nov. 10.
The exhibition, which opened on June 28 and was originally slated to run until Sept. 15, is a colorful showcase of the luxury French house’s 160-year history of collaborations with artists. From Sol LeWitt and Jeff Koons to Karl Lagerfeld and Rei Kawakubo, Louis Vuitton has a rich past of working with key figures across art and fashion.
The brand, which is owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, has been frequently working with L.A.-based American artists Alex Israel and Jonas Wood. Last week Wood unveiled a limited-edition textile collaboration — shawls and scarves — that will be available in stores worldwide by Sept. 12.
To celebrate the opening of Louis Vuitton X, Israel and Wood were two of six contemporary artists (who also included Sam Falls, Tschabalala Self, Urs Fischer and Nicholas Hlobo) commissioned to reimagine the house’s “Capucines” handbag, launched in 2013. (The name is an ode to the Parisian street that Louis Vuitton himself first opened a store on in 1854.) The collection of bags, named “Artycapucines”

EXCLUSIVE: Telfar to Show Film in NYC, Runway in Paris

Telfar is heading to Paris.
The New York City-based designer will present his next runway show on Sept. 23 to open Paris Fashion Week. He won’t leave New York City empty-handed though — the brand will present a film on Sept. 6 featuring a collective of directors and writers including Petra Collins, Ryan Trecartin, Steve Lacy, Clayton Vomero, Ian Isiah, TORSO, Diamond Stingley, Juliana Huxtable, Jeremy O. Harris, Kelsey Lu, and others.
The nonlinear format film was shot in New York, Los Angeles, Ohio, and Paris among others.
“We think we are doing this out of necessity,” said designer Telfar Clemens. “I think it’s good for fashion as a whole to rethink how it works. This is really just an experiment happening live.”
Telfar was established in 2005, although the designer had been producing nongendered clothing since 2002.
In 2017, he collaborated with White Castle on a capsule collection after hosting his runway show afterparty at the fast food chain’s Times Square location in 2015. He won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in the same year and was awarded $ 400,000, and in 2019 was a CFDA Award nominee for Accessory Designer of the Year.

After a 24-year run, Tom Ott is about to bid adieu to Saks Fifth Avenue.
In the latest restructuring at the luxury department store, Ott, senior merchant of Saks Off 5th, will be leaving the company on Aug. 30.
Ott’s position will be split between two other employees who are also longtime Saks Off 5th executives. Christine Merrick, formerly vice president and divisional merchandise manager of shoes and handbags for Off 5th, has been elevated to senior vice president and general merchandise manager of men’s, kids, shoes and handbags. Allison Ross, formerly vice president and dmm of women’s contemporary for Off 5th, has been named senior vice president and gmm of women’s, accessories, beauty and home.
Both will report to Marc Metrick, president of Saks Fifth Avenue, who oversees the Off 5th off-price chain, which operates over 100 stores in the U.S. and Canada.

SHANGHAI — H&M is bringing its fashion designer collaboration initiatives to China, and designer Angel Chen has created a 45-piece capsule with the retailer’s design team. The collection is due to hit stores in September.
This marks the first time H&M has worked with a Chinese design talent in pursuit of generating buzz among the local fashion community, as well as tapping into the young, fashion-minded, affluent and well-traveled Chinese speaking consumer since the collection will not only be available in China both online and in stores but also in countries with dense Chinese populations, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Canada.

Aitor Throup is gearing up to debut a men’s wear label, WWD has learned.
The Buenos Aires-born and Burnley, England-raised designer, known for his highly conceptualized fashion, said this project marks “the biggest thing I’ve ever worked on, I’m nearing the completion of my vision, which has been 15 years in the making, and I’m near the end of it.”
The new men’s brand, the name of which is being kept under wraps, will make its debut later this year before fully seeing the light in 2020.
Throup, who had served as G-Star’s executive creative director overseeing the men’s and women’s mainline ranges and the Raw Research men’s line since 2016, last year parted ways amicably with the Amsterdam-based label co-owned by Pharrell Williams.
Prior to his appointment at G-Star, Throup had launched his conceptual men’s label New Object Research, which debuted on the London Fashion Week: Men’s calendar in 2013. In 2016 the designer hosted a performance-presentation hybrid in a deconsecrated church in Marylebone.

Valérie Hermann, president of global brands at Ralph Lauren Corp., is leaving the firm, effective Sept. 30.
A talented and experienced executive, Hermann had been in that role for nearly three years, having previously been Lauren’s global brand president of Luxury, Women’s Collections and World of Accessories. Hermann joined Ralph Lauren in 2014 as president of Ralph Lauren Luxury Collections, overseeing Black Label, Purple Label, fine jewelry, eyewear, timepieces, handbags, RRL and fragrance. PARIS — Cerruti 1881 has parted ways with chief creative officer Jason Basmajian, WWD has learned.
Basmajian is leaving by mutual agreement with Hong Kong-based parent company Trinity Ltd. in order to pursue other opportunities. The Boston-born designer has a track record of refreshing and revving up storied men’s wear names, joining Trinity in 2013 to revamp iconic Savile Row tailor Gieves & Hawkes.
He moved to Cerruti in 2015, unifying various collections with different names and positioning under a single moniker, Cerruti 1881, offering a balance of soft tailoring and sportswear and reintroducing women’s wear. Basmajian marked the 50th anniversary of the brand with a documentary film featuring Nino Cerruti.
“It has been a privilege to work for such iconic brands and write another chapter in their history. I want to thank my incredible teams and talent that I have collaborated with over the years in addition to guidance and support from Mr. Cerruti. I wish the new shareholders and management success in the development of this beautiful heritage brand,” Basmajian told WWD.
Officials at Cerruti were not immediately available for comment.

PARIS — Felipe Oliveira Baptista has been named creative director of Kenzo, LVMH has confirmed.
He is to join the brand on Monday and will unveil his first collections for men and women next February during Paris Men’s Fashion Week for fall 2020.
Oliveira Baptista, who was creative director of Lacoste from 2010 to 2018, succeeds designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, who revealed they were leaving Kenzo in June after eight years at the house to focus on their U.S.-based Opening Ceremony store chain and fashion label.
“What made us choose Felipe above other candidates is the fact that he has a global artistic approach,” Sylvie Colin, chief executive officer of Kenzo since 2017, told WWD.
“He has a 360-degree creative vision and will oversee artistic direction globally, dealing both with collections and communication,” she continued.
The executive stated it was too early to say if this would lead to a possible change of logo or retail identity, simply commenting that as Oliveira Baptista will oversee global image direction for the label, “it will impact the brand’s entire communication.”

Mytheresa, which until now has sold women’s wear only, is vaulting into the arena with a gutsy proposition to deliver a new elegance to the category, complete with a lineup of luxe brands, tailored clothing and price points suited to shoppers with deep pockets.
Where other retailers may be stretching their offer or floor space to include more streetwear, T-shirts, sneakers, grooming products and entry price points, Mytheresa is taking a different direction in the belief there is untapped demand for a new take on the classics and a more formal attitude.

EXCLUSIVE: Randa Acquires Haggar Brand

Randa Accessories is finally making its long-desired jump into the apparel end of the business.
On Tuesday, the New York-based company revealed that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire 100 percent of Haggar Clothing Co. Terms were not disclosed, but the transaction is expected to close on May 31. The acquisition also includes the Tribal women’s brand.
Haggar is believed to have sales of around $ 500 million and Randa revenues of about $ 700 million, so the combined company would have sales of more than $ 1 billion.
Haggar’s headquarters will remain in Dallas and the current management team, headed by chief executive officer Michael Stitt, will remain intact.
A little over a year ago, Randa was locked in a battle with George Feldenkreis to acquire Perry Ellis International. Ultimately, Feldenkreis prevailed but Randa’s management was determined to regroup and find another brand that would allow it to expand beyond accessories, where it dominates the market.
That opportunity arose with Haggar, a privately held, 93-year-old, Dallas-based brand whose founding family sold the business in 2005 to private equity firm Perseus LLC and Taiwan-based Pou Chen, the world’s largest footwear manufacturer, which has been the sole owner for the past several years.

PARIS — Parisian men’s wear label Editions M.R has chosen Louis Wong as its first official creative director.
The French designer, who is best known for his work at A.P.C., joined the ready-to-wear company in March, and will present his first collection for the brand during Paris Fashion Week: Men’s in June.
“When Louis and I met, I immediately felt we shared this common sensibility,” said Mathieu de Ménonville, who cofounded Editions M.R in 2010 (formerly named Melinda Gloss.) “I’m hoping his creative direction will lead to developing more fabrics and styles, but will also add a touch of eccentricity and bring a fresh outlook to the brand.”
After a stint at Louis Vuitton’s men’s studio working under Marc Jacobs, Wong, 42, spent 15 years at A.P.C., collaborating with Jean Touitou on the men’s and women’s lines. In 2011, the French designer launched his own men’s line at A.P.C., named Louis W.
“I am fond of the ultraclassic French aesthetic that Mathieu embodies,” said Wong. “And I like the relaxed feel, the refined proportions. The idea is to push a radical but subtle eccentricity while staying true to the roots of Editions M.R.”

It was a very Los Angeles affair Wednesday night, when H&M celebrated the release of its spring Conscious Exclusive Collection with singing bowl players and crystal readings at a Laurel Canyon treehouse party with the city blanketed below.
It made for the perfect earthy-elegant backdrop for the fast-fashion brand’s latest sustainable collection, hitting stores April 11, with prices from $ 349 for a sequin dress to $ 25 for a pair of earrings.
Dakota Fanning, Rowan Blanchard, Irina Shayk, Halima Aden, Amber Valletta and more came out to support — and model — H&M’s ninth collection experimenting with new sustainable materials and processes on elevated fashion pieces such as a glam rock jacket and cowboy boots patchworked with a leather alternative extracted from pineapple leaves, metallic jacquard dresses made from orange fibers that are a byproduct of the juice industry, and leopard-pattern pool slides from a flexible foam made using algae biomass.

The Whitney Museum of American Art will honor Michael Bloomberg during its annual Gala and Studio Party on April 9.
The centrist politician, who two weeks ago revealed he would not be running for president in 2020, is “a great friend to the Whitney,” according to the museum’s Alice Pratt Brown director Adam D. Weinberg. Bloomberg’s honor stems from his philanthropic work and support for artists and cultural organizations; under his administration spanning 11 years, the founder of Bloomberg LP backed 500 public art projects.
There’s more cause for celebration, though: the gala, which this year will be sponsored by Michael Kors and Audi, marks the four-year anniversary of the museum’s move downtown to the Meatpacking District. Plus folks will be able to celebrate — or perhaps more accurately, mourn — the closing of the oft-Instagrammed exhibit “Andy Warhol — From A to B and Back Again.”
For Kors’ part, he said he’s looking forward to checking out the next thing the museum has to offer.

ALL GLAMMED UP: Salvatore Ferragamo has opened a door at South Coast Plaza, which also marks the release of an accessories capsule exclusive to the Orange County boutique.
The capsule, designed by creative director Paul Andrew and men’s ready-to-wear design director Guillaume Meilland, includes footwear and men’s, including a men’s backpack bearing South Coast Plaza’s directional coordinates and silk quilting on footwear and handbags. The capsule, the company said, is inspired by California.
The pieces exclusive to South Coast range in price from $ 725 for the men’s leather and denim sneakers to $ 1,890 for the silk quilted messenger handbag.
The store’s footprint totals over 5,500 square feet and is broken down into four rooms with an assortment that includes men’s and women’s shoes, ready-to-wear, bags and leather goods, among other accessories.
The design, which was initially rolled out for the company’s Beverly Hills location, draws some references to Hollywood with Art Deco lamps, anchored by wool carpeting and seating in pink velvet and bouclé on the women’s side and red leather for the men’s. PARIS — “Streetwear on the runways of Paris has always been that vision that I’ve shared with my friends, the ultimate opportunity to present some new fresh ideas in a city and platform that we have always looked up to,” said Heron Preston, who today at the Palais de Tokyo will present the first runway show of his namesake label, as part of the official calendar of Paris Men’s Fashion Week.

Saks Fifth Avenue has managed to snag the early launch of the much-coveted debut collection of Kim Jones for Dior Men.
Although the line will be offered at other stores in early February — including in an installation with some exclusive pieces at Nordstrom Men in New York and Seattle — Saks has secured the early retail exclusive for the line. The collection has already launched at Dior’s stores, including the eight in the U.S. that carry men’s wear.
Saks will be carrying the full collection of ready-to-wear, sneakers and accessories embellished with the brand’s signature bee logo that has been reimagined by street artist Kaws.
The summer collection will be available at Saks’ New York, Beverly Hills, Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta, Houston and Toronto stores on Jan. 16, two weeks ahead of other retailers. It will not be available online at Saks but is being sold on the Dior e-commerce site.
Product pricing will range from $ 490 for a Kaws bee T-shirt to $ 5,900 for a crystal Kaws bee denim jacket.

Olivia Culpo held court Wednesday morning at ABC Cocina, where she introduced her new Express x Olivia Culpo collection.
The collection is Culpo’s take on power dressing and street style and emphasizes “GRL PWR,” which is emblazoned on some of the pieces. It’s essentially a wardrobe capsule for the girl on the go.
Discussing how she got together with Express, Culpo told WWD, “It was a pretty organic meeting. I worked with Express before on a few one-off things. I personally was always inspired to design things that are appropriate for the everyday girl at an appropriate price point so that anybody can wear it and feel good.”
The collection is inspired by “GRL PWR” and comes in XXS to XXL and 0 to 18.

EXCLUSIVE: Kent & Curwen Teams With ‘Peaky Blinders’ on Capsule

SNEAK PEAKY: Kent & Curwen is hitting the gritty streets of Twenties Birmingham, England, collaborating with the makers of “Peaky Blinders,” the hit BBC TV crime drama, on a capsule collection.
The capsule will make its debut on Sunday during the Kent & Curwen presentation at the grand Two Temple Place, overlooking the Thames, WWD has learned.
David Beckham, an investor in Kent & Curwen and the face of its campaigns, his eldest son Brooklyn and “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight are expected to be at the Kent & Curwen show. The award-wining series, which began airing in 2013, stars Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory and Paul Anderson, and the next season is due to start in September, just as the collection drops in-store.
Kent & Curwen designer Daniel Kearns has created a three-piece tweed suit, lightweight frock coat, collarless shirts inspired by Twenties styles, peg leg trousers and flat caps. Some styles have printed canvas patches featuring the brand’s rose motif done as a Victorian-era photograph with the writing, “Garrison Tailors by Order of the Peaky Blinders.”
Garrison Tailors is a men’s wear clothing company founded by the show’s creator, Knight. The British-made tailored clothing is inspired by the Peaky Blinders-era costumes.

EXCLUSIVE: Aldo Maria Camillo to Unveil Namesake Brand at Pitti Uomo

MILAN — Aldo Maria Camillo will unveil the first collection of his namesake label at Pitti Uomo, running in Florence Jan. 8 to 11.
The designer was selected by the international men’s wear trade show at its Pitti Italics Special Event.
“Aldo Maria Camillo works exclusively and with great focus on men’s fashion studying the masculine silhouette, with the aim of giving a new imprint and freshness to men’s wear. His cultural references belong to an intimately classical background, supported by solid stylistic training and an acute sensitivity to current worldwide events — which goes beyond fashion. He has talent, imagination, and a sense of material,” said Pitti Immagine director of communications and events Lapo Cianchi. “The new project of Aldo Maria is very personal and immediately engaged us, because we believe that in men’s wear it is essential to return to the standards of elegance nonetheless, re-read and renewed in a modern key. We want to join him in this adventure — the launching of his self-named brand — which now more than ever before requires courage and determination.”

EXCLUSIVE: Neil Barrett to Debut First London Store

MILAN — Neil Barrett is boosting its distribution with key openings and a new web site.
As a first step of a retail strategy aimed at bringing the brand founded in 1999 by British designer Neil Barrett in the most prestigious streets of the key international cities in the world, the fashion label is gearing up to unveil its first store in London.
Opening its doors just in time for the holiday season, the shop will occupy 2,153 square feet on Conduit Street in the heart of the Mayfair neighborhood and feature a “revisited, cozier version of the store concept by Zaha Hadid Architects, which is already on show in our 30 monobrand stores around the world,” said Neil Barrett chief executive officer Carlo Barone Lumaga, during an interview at the company’s headquarters in Milan.

EXCLUSIVE: L’Exception Adds Private Label Men’s Line

PARIS — L’Exception, the Paris-based online retailer dedicated to French labels, is launching a direct-to-consumer private label men’s line.
The idea, said founder Régis Pennel, is not to go into competition with the brands they sell but to present a complementary line of basics. The preppy line includes parkas, roll necks in merino wool, old-school cardigans and flannel shirts, with prices going from 35 euros for a T-shirt to 120 euros for a denim jacket.

Designing the line is Rémi de Laquintane, founder of Laquintane and cofounder of Parisian men’s wear label Éditions MR, both of which are carried by L’Exception. Lewis Lazar and Christopher Moore of French group the Oracle Sisters, which channels a Seventies vibe, are cited as the muses of the collection.
Launching on Oct. 11, the line will be sold exclusively on the retailer’s site and in a dedicated corner at its brick-and-mortar store in the Forum des Halles shopping center, with regular drops and a focus on European materials and production. The details of the supply chain will be shared on the site.
Pennel described the line as being very Parisian in style — “classic with a twist.”

LONDON — 24 Sèvres is continuing its commitment to offer exclusive product from LVMH-owned labels that don’t have wide e-commerce presence.
After teaming with Céline on an exclusive range, the retailer’s next project includes the release of an exclusive capsule with Louis Vuitton.
Five of the most buzzy products from the label’s fall 2018 collection have been reissued for the capsule, including a black logo dress, the popular “Vanity” structured tote bag in taupe, the “Party” aviator sunglasses in blue-tinged frames and the famous Archlight sneakers recreated in a blue, yellow and white color palette.
“As the exclusive retailer for Louis Vuitton, 24 Sèvres has been a partner of the Maison since day one. This collaboration was a natural next step,” said a company representative, pointing to the retailer’s commitment to offering unique pieces that can’t be found anywhere else.
“This has informed the regular capsules and collaborations released since the launch in June 2017. Exclusive product is at the center of our product strategy.”

Want to vacation among Hollywood’s most glamorous? Just head to the Hôtel du Cap.

With the 2018 Cannes Film Festival getting under way, stars are gathering at what is often dubbed the most exclusive hotel on the French Riviera — its full name is the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc — to mingle and party throughout the nearly two-week long fest. And PEOPLE Deputy Editor J.D. Heyman is giving you an inside look.

“This has been a Hollywood hotel since the beginning of the 20th century,” explains Heyman.

The hotel is a hot spot during Cannes. Last year, everyone from Uma Thurman and Will Smith to Jessica Chastain and Tobey Maguire stepped out at the amfAR Gala, held at the hotel every year. And models including Emily Ratajkowski and Coco Rocha shared glam photos of themselves enjoying the iconic property on social media.

 

The previous year, on-again couple Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry all but confirmed their relationship with a cheeky Instagram post snapped on the hotel’s famous steps.

The property has also been a fixture in literature and a getaway spot for some of America’s most iconic luminaries.

Fitzgerald based the hotel in Tender is the Night ” says Heyman, adding that the Kennedy’s often chose the oceanfront hotel as a vacation destination. ” John F. Kennedy was here when he was 21 years old.” (The hotel is located just off the Boulevard John F. Kennedy.)

During the festival, the hotel serves as the site of numerous parties, including the amfAR benefit and the De Grisogono jewelry party.

And with Hollywood guests as hotel regulars, it’s no wonder rooms can cost at least $ 2,000 a night. In fact, up until 2006, Hôtel du Cap was a cash-only hotel, meaning guests had to either bring wads of bills in their suitcases or wire money to pay for their stay.

But the price is well worth the extravagant amenities and breathtaking views.

“It stretches over 20 acres here of pines and tropical gardens,” says Heyman. “The Hôtel du Cap is the jewel of the French Riviera.”

CLOSING ACT: He’s already the opening act of women’s Paris Fashion Week, and now Simon Porte Jacquemus is to close Paris Men’s Fashion Week, with his own event set the day after the official season ends — and somewhere far, far away from the City of Light.
The maverick designer will present the first men’s collection under his Jacquemus label in a yet-to-be-disclosed southern French city on June 25.
Among the possible locations, Porte Jacquemus, whose sun-soaked universe is deeply inspired by his upbringing in Provence, has deep ties with Marseille, where he spent much of his youth. The designer already presented a catwalk show there last May, as the special guest of the city’s OpenMyMed festival.
For that, he had models in looks from his spring 2017 women’s collection walk across a soaring flat footbridge linking the open-air Place d’Armes in the Fort Saint Jean, a 17th-century military complex with panoramic views over the port of Marseille, to the Rudy Ricciotti-designed main building of the Museum for Europe and the Mediterranean, or MuCEM.

EXCLUSIVE: John Targon Out at Marc Jacobs

It didn’t make sense.
Two and half months after John Targon, cofounder and codesigner of Baja East, was hired as creative director of the contemporary division at Marc Jacobs, he has left the company, WWD has learned. Marc Jacobs International, which is owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, confirmed Targon’s departure in a statement: “John Targon is a talented designer and we appreciate the work he has done here. Ultimately working together did not make sense for the brand and we wish him the best.”
Targon could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Even in an industry known for its constant shake-ups, Targon’s turn at Marc Jacobs ranks as incredibly brief. A spokesperson for the brand declined comment beyond the statement, but industry insiders might not be all that surprised that Targon’s appointment didn’t last. He officially joined the company Feb. 2 as the first major public hire of Eric Marechalle, Marc Jacobs’ chief executive officer who joined the company from Kenzo in July 2017.
Though the specific nature of Targon’s role was never officially defined, it was understood he would oversee the lower-priced portion of the collection, which had become a focus of the house under the watch of former ceo Sebastian Suhl,

Porsche Design is commemorating the 40th anniversary of its aviator sunglasses with a special-edition frame launching in mid April. The P’8478, as the aviator sunglasses are known, were the first frame on the market to provide an interchangeable lenses mechanism and the design has been left unchanged since.
“For the 40th anniversary edition of the P’8478 sunglasses, our designers at Studio FA Porsche wanted to make something special, but they didn’t want to compromise the well-known iconic design. Therefore we decided to implement a bi-color design — the first time we’ve done this to the P’8478. Previously, the frame and its hardware always matched,” said Karsten von Engeln, chief operating officer of Porsche Design of America. “Additionally, we decided to launch this edition accompanied by our three best-selling lenses from the past 40 years.”
The new special edition frame is made with a matte-black titanium frame, gradient gray lenses and gold nose-bridge. The frames come with four different pairs of lenses, a special travel case and are available in two sizes, each limited to 1,978 pairs to correlate with the 1978 release date.

PARIS — Kris Van Assche is leaving Dior Homme after 11 years and will take up a new assignment within the LVMH Group, WWD has learned.
An official announcement is expected imminently, marking the first big change at Christian Dior Couture since Pietro Beccari arrived as chairman and chief executive officer six weeks ago.
Dior indicated Van Assche’s successor would be named “subsequently.”
According to sources, Kim Jones will take up the plum design role, two months after exiting as Louis Vuitton’s men’s artistic director, and reuniting him with Beccari, who had worked with the English designer when he was the No. 2 executive at Vuitton.
The same sources said Jones would present his first collection for Dior Homme in June.
He joins a clutch of prominent designers at Dior, headlined by Maria Grazia Chiuri, artistic director of women’s haute couture, ready-to-wear and accessory collections, and Victoire de Castellane, its fine jewelry designer since 1998.
LVMH continues to flex its muscles in the burgeoning men’s fashion space, having lured Hedi Slimane back to the group to take over Céline and extend that 73-year-old brand into men’s wear for the first time.
The French luxury giant has also been investing heavily in Berluti, now under the design leadership

PARIS — Kim Jones is to present his first collection for Dior Homme in June as its new artistic director of ready-to-wear and accessory collections.
This confirms an earlier report on WWD.com that Jones, previously men’s artistic director at Louis Vuitton, would succeed Kris Van Assche in the plum role. Jones starts April 1.
Van Assche exits Dior Homme after leading the brand for 11 years and is expected to take up a new assignment within LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
The arrival of Jones represents the first big move by Pietro Beccari, who became chairman and chief executive officer at Christian Dior Couture six weeks ago after stints at Fendi and Vuitton.
“I am delighted to welcome Kim Jones, with whom I had the chance to collaborate previously at Louis Vuitton,” Beccari told WWD. “I admire his creative vision, which combines both his own inspirations of contemporary culture and his own reinterpretation of specific codes and heritage of a house. I am confident in his ability to recreate his universe within the maison Dior and imagine for Dior Homme an elegant and resolutely modern wardrobe.”

EXCLUSIVE: Off-White Releases Capsule Collection With Sunglass Hut

Off-White’s Virgil Abloh is jumping back into the sunglasses market, and this time in a big way: Abloh is collaborating with Sunglass Hut to launch a capsule collection.
The designer already has numerous collaborations under his belt, including Off-White c/o Jimmy Choo for spring; Nike c/o Virgil Abloh the Ten, and Off-White c/o Warby Parker in July 2017, which was his first foray into the eyewear market. But the partnership with Sunglass Hut is a first for his brand in terms of size and scope.
“Sunglass Hut and Luxottica offer Off-White exposure to a wide audience that might not know about the brand,” Abloh said when asked about the reason to partner with the eyewear company. Sunglass Hut offers Abloh a reach on a global scale, including Asia, Mexico, Australia, the U.K. and the U.S.
“I’ve always thought of sunglasses as an important accessory in a fashion context. It’s a small object that can give you the nuances of a brand’s opinion on design,” Abloh said. “For me, I was looking to incorporate classic shapes from the past with a youthful modern elegance. All lenses are flat, which gives each style the same edge.”

Gemfields, one of world’s leading suppliers of responsibly sourced colored gemstones, is launching an e-commerce platform with partner Muse Showroom.
The partnership between the two began in 2016. Gemfields, which owns Fabergé and operates its own emerald mine in Zambia and ruby mine in Mozambique, wanted to create collections from its stones, and the Muse Showroom fine jewelry client base offered a way to collaborate and create pieces using them. Over the past few years, the collaboration has grown from brands exclusively at Muse to friends of the New York-based showroom and emerging designers as well.
Until now, the collections have been selling piecemeal at a variety of retail channels but Jennifer Shanker, founder of Muse Showroom, wanted a place to show the comprehensive assortment of charms, rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces.
“My goal was to curate a space that showcases the full breadth of beautiful pieces from the Gemfields x Muse collaborations,” Shanker said. “I wanted to give customers visibility and access to current and past collections, connecting them with stunning colored gemstones and talented designers in one easy, shoppable destination.”

PARIS — Kim Jones is to exit Louis Vuitton after showing his fall 2018 collection for the brand in Paris on Thursday, WWD has learned.
Jones has been men’s artistic director of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s flagship brand since 2011, parlaying his zest for exotic travel into ultraluxurious collections with understated cool and sly functionality.
“It has been a huge privilege to work with Kim,” said Michael Burke, Vuitton’s chairman and chief executive officer, lauding the designer’s “ability to set trends” along with his talent and determination. “All of us who have been fortunate to work with Kim wish him continued success in his next venture.”
Vuitton has yet to reveal its succession plan for the plum post, which has gained visibility thanks to Vuitton’s mighty show and campaign budgets, Jones’ clutch of celebrity friends and the brand’s high-profile collaborations with the likes of Supreme and British artists Jake and Dinos Chapman. Vuitton described Jones as “the driving force behind some of the Maison’s most successful projects and collaborations.”

MILAN — “Making the brand younger, clean, more modern and elevated, slighter closer to the Isaia brand but distinctively different” is the mission that Simon Spurr said he embraced when, in November, he joined Eidos, the Isaia company’s advanced contemporary firm.
The New York-based, British designer — who has worked in the men’s wear departments of labels including Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren before launching his namesake brand — presented his first Eidos collection exclusively to WWD in the new Isaia headquarters here.
In order to attract “more fashion customers” but at the same time target a broad audience in terms of age, Spurr designed a versatile collection that, unlike the quintessentially Italian Isaia tailored line, is rooted in an international aesthetic.
In keeping with the British designer’s signature style, the lineup is focused on clean, lean silhouettes infused with a touch of “romanticism and sensitivity,” explained Spurr, who also highlighted the “wearability” of the collection.

EXCLUSIVE: Model Christopher Cates Pens Letter Calling for Action Against Harassment

As the uproar continues over sexual harassment in industries stretching from entertainment to media to finance, the fashion world has remained relatively on the sidelines – until now.
On Saturday, The New York Times published a long-rumored story about alleged harassment of male models by the photographers Bruce Weber and Mario Testino. Both men, via statements their lawyers gave to the Times, vigorously denied the allegations made in the story, although Conde Nast and Conde Nast International both said Saturday that they would be severing ties with the two photographers – at least for now.
The Times’ story comes several months after model Cameron Russell created an Instagram account on which anonymous individuals posted stories about their mistreatment in the industry. EXCLUSIVE: Winona Ryder Named L’Oréal Paris Brand Ambassador

L’Oréal Paris has tapped Winona Ryder to appear in a campaign tied to a massive rebrand of its U.S. hair business, WWD has exclusively learned.
A “robust, 360-campaign” comprising digital, social, TV and print advertising is set to launch Sunday during the Golden Globes with a TV commercial featuring Ryder, said Anne Marie Nelson-Bogle, senior vice president of marketing at L’Oréal Paris.
Titled “The Comeback,” the campaign is tied to the repositioning of the majority of the L’Oréal Paris hair-care products, including shampoos, conditioners and treatments, plus a few new products, under a new franchise called Elvive.
The Elvive platform focuses on damage prevention, a message L’Oréal is hoping U.S. consumers — fond of curling irons, blowouts, dry shampoo and bleach — will relate to. L’Oréal research found that eight in 10 women in the U.S. have damaged hair — and 18- to 34-year-olds in particular overindex in hot-tool-related damage.
“Everyone does love a comeback, and we will be communicating that damaged hair deserves one, too,” said Nelson-Bogle of the new campaign. “For Winona, we know that from TV sets to the red carpet, her hair has gone through many transformations — her hair is dry and damaged.”

EXCLUSIVE: Kenzo Taps Karen O to Record Original Song

HEAR MY SONG: First film, now music. Having commissioned leading filmmakers including Gregg Araki and Sean Baker to create short films, Kenzo has tapped singer-songwriter Karen O to record an original song, and writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour to direct the accompanying film.
Titled “Yo! My Saint,” the track will be released on Jan. 12 across more than 50 streaming services including Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Pandora, Deezer and Google Play Music. A companion limited-edition vinyl is to go on sale on Jan. 22 in Kenzo stores and online.
While championing female talent is nothing new for Kenzo creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, the project marks the first time the label has released an original song. Others brands which have produced music include Burberry, which supports British artists via its Burberry Acoustic initiative, and Kitsuné, which has its own record label.
