Another Change Hits Italy’s Men’s Brands as Corneliani CEO Exits

MILAN — Marking yet another change within Italy’s men’s wear industry, Corneliani SpA chief executive officer Paolo Roviera has exited the storied company and has been succeeded by Luigi Ferrando.
In a brief statement, the Mantua-based firm said it “confirms the development goals of the Corneliani brand, in line with the strategies outlined in 2016.” The date refers to the acquisition by Bahrain-based Investcorp of a majority stake in Corneliani in June that year and signaling the fund’s increasing focus on luxury. The deal was meant at the time to be preparatory to an initial public offering, which has not taken place, and also overcome succession plans.
Ferrando joins Corneliani, known for its sleek tailoring and high-end quality products, from a different sector, as he leverages experience in furniture. His curriculum lists managerial positions at Unopiù and Arquati as well as lighting firms Targetti and Louis Poulsen.
Roviera arrived at Corneliani in September 2016, tasked with the expansion of the brand globally. He was previously ceo of Pal Zileri, controlled by Qatar-based Mayhoola.
Carlalberto Corneliani, who founded the company in 1958 with his late brother Claudio, was succeeded by Investcorp’s Hazem Ben-Gacem as chairman of Corneliani.
Investcorp, a leading provider and manager of alternative investment products, controls the Danish

Lucas Ossendrijver Exits Lanvin

PARIS — Lucas Ossendrijver is exiting Lanvin, WWD has learned.
The move comes in the wake of sweeping changes at the historic French house under its new owner Fosun International.
After 13 years at Lanvin, Ossendrijver’s final collection as its men’s designer is the pre-collection being presented to buyers at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, according to an industry source.
Lanvin is expected to pull out from the runway calendar for the upcoming Paris Fashion Week Men’s in January, the source said.
Lanvin could not be immediately be reached for comment.
Contacted by phone last Wednesday, Ossendrijver told WWD that he was still at the house, adding: “No further comment for the moment.”
Lanvin has been without a women’s designer since the departure of Olivier Lapidus last March, and it has yet to make an official announcement regarding his successor.
WWD broke the news on Oct. 8 that Lanvin has settled on Bruno Sialelli, the former head of men’s wear at Loewe, to design its women’s and men’s wear collections. It is understood it is in negotiations with Loewe parent LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton over a non-compete clause.
Finding new design and management leadership has been job number one for Fosun International, which acquired the French luxury house in February.

Giovanni Morelli Joins Valentino, Isabelle Harvie-Watt Exits Brand

IN AND OUT: Former Stuart Weitzman creative director Giovanni Morelli has joined Valentino as accessories design director, WWD has learned. He reports to creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. Morelli, who left the Tapestry Inc.-owned brand in May after one year, is a former leather goods designer for Loewe, Marc Jacobs and Chloé.
Morelli’s exit followed allegations of sexual harassment filed by Stuart Weitzman’s vice president Thomas Gibb, but Tapestry itself has since taken action against Gibb, terminating him and filing its own lawsuit against the executive, alleging breach of contract, duty of loyalty and diversion of corporate opportunities.
At the same time, Valentino’s chief marketing officer Isabelle Harvie-Watt has exited the company after only six months. This was a new role at the company and it is understood it is now vacant.
Born and raised in London, Harvie-Watt has been working in Italy for more than 25 years. Before Valentino, she was a managing partner and ceo of the Spring Group — Spring Studios and Spring Place — in Milan, tasked with expanding and managing the group’s footprint in Italy. Prior to this, Harvie-Watt spent five years as ceo and country manager of Havas Media Group in Italy. Cofounder Jack Miner Exits Hecho Brand

Hecho, a men’s casualwear brand inspired by and made in Mexico City, has lost its cofounder, designer and chief proponent.
Jack Miner, who created the label in 2014, has exited the brand “to pursue new professional opportunities,” the company said. Daniela Xacur, Miner’s business partner and chief executive officer, will continue her “active role in the company,” and will work with its new creative director, Brenda Díaz de la Vega.
Díaz de la Vega was the editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar Mexico and Latin America and also worked in communications for Chanel.
Reached through his personal e-mail, Miner said he and Xacur “faced irreconcilable differences with regard to the future of Hecho at the end of August. Ultimately, as the minority shareholder to her majority stake, I made the decision to move on from the company.”
Xacur could not be reached for comment on the future of the label. However, its web site was not operating on Tuesday.
Hecho, which is carried at Barneys New York, Matchesfashion.com and other high-end retailers, centers around swimwear and beach-related sportswear.

Stuart Redsun Exits Columbia Sportswear

REDSUN EXITS COLUMBIA: Stuart “Stu” Redsun has exited Columbia Sportswear as senior vice president and chief marketing officer after a three-year run.
Reached by phone, Redsun said he was not at liberty to comment. Executives at Columbia Sportswear also declined to comment about his departure and a successor.
In the fall of 2015, Redsun steered the Portland, Ore.-based company back into advertising after a 10-year hiatus. That “Tested Touch” initiative featuring the intrepid chairman Gert Boyle was an investment “north of $ 50 million,” Redsun said at the time.
More recently, Redsun helped spearhead a social media campaign starring “Baywatch” actor Zac Efron and his brother Dylan. The duo, whose grandparents live in Oregon, shot a short video being interviewed by Boyle who lived up to her no-BS businesswoman reputation. The 93-year-old Boyle gave the pair high marks for their genuine adventurism and manners.
One of the more unexpected initiative’s under Redsun was the appointment of two directors of toughness, who beat out thousands of others to travel the globe for six months weartesting Columbia products. The recruits — ultrarunner and writer Lauren Steele and adventure traveler and sports photographer Zach Doleac — kicked off their world tour with an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Among those who were let go in the past several weeks include Nelson Mui, vice president and men’s fashion director for the Hudson’s Bay and Lord & Taylor divisions.
At HBC, Mui was a fixture at the men’s runway shows in Europe and New York as well as the trade shows in Las Vegas. Supreme’s Angelo Baque Exits Brand

NEW YORK — Supreme’s longtime brand director Angelo Baque has left the streetwear firm.
Baque has launched his own creative agency, Baque Creative, and will continue to consult for Supreme. He said he has not been replaced.
According to Baque, who has been working on his agency since late last year, Supreme is one of his clients and he will still oversee the overall art direction for the brand — including look book and editorial visuals — and offer his opinions about collections.
Baque, through his own creative agency, also works with Nike NSW and Converse.
“I spent 10 years with the brand and I’ve changed a lot in those 10 years,” said Baque, who met James Jebbia, Supreme’s owner and founder, when he was a store associate at Stüssy. “When I started with Supreme, I didn’t know what the hell I was going to do. There was no title and it was just wide open. The company was so small back then. It was 2006 and I was able to figure it out and see where I fit in. I have a photo background and I felt like I could help the brand and bring a new perspective to the visuals.”

Andrea Pompilio Exits Canali

Canali and Andrea Pompilio have mutually agreed to not renew their partnership, WWD has learned.
The designer joined the men’s tailoring brand as a creative consultant in March 2014 and developed four collections for Canali.
“The decision to part ways is a reciprocal one and coincides with the natural expiration of the agreement between Canali and Andrea. Both parties agree that this is an ideal moment to complete the collaboration, which has come full circle over the course of nearly two years and four collections,” the company exclusively told WWD on Wednesday. “Each season Andrea presented a different perspective on the Canali man, whose aesthetic is in continuous evolution, keeping in line with the company’s constant pursuit of innovation and contemporary elegance.”
During his tenure, Pompilio refreshed the image of the brand via collections where Canali’s signature sartorial look was updated with a more contemporary attitude, high-tech fabrics and pops of bold colors.
According to Canali, an in-house design team is working on the spring 2017 collection, which will be unveiled with a runway show in June during Milan Fashion Week.
Pompilio is the owner and creative director of his namesake men’s wear label, which made its official debut at Pitti Uomo in June 2013.
