Meghan Markle Is Featured on Her Alma Mater Northwestern’s Latest Alumni Page

Northwestern University has a long list of respected alumni, but only one has gone on to become real-life royalty.

Meghan Markle tops the school’s alumni page in new recruitment material. According to fan page HarrysMeghri, the 37-year-old’s image (with the caption “Meghan Markle, Humanitarian and Duchess of Sussex) is positioned next to IBM’s chairman, president and CEO Virginia Rometty.

“You can do anything when you take a Northwestern Direction,” says text below Meghan’s photo. “They did.”

Meghan is also listed on School of Communication’s notable alumni list as “the Duchess of Sussex, member of the British Royal Family. Former actress and star of Suits.” (She’s in good company — Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Seth Meyers, David Schwimmer, Zach Braff, Stephen Colbert and Warren Beatty are all Wildcats!)

Meghan double-majored in theater and international relations. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Understandably thrilled about their alumna’s royal status, the sorority shared a composite photo from Meghan’s days as a Kappa during the 2000-2001 school year. Kappa Kappa Gamma congratulated Meghan and Harry on their engagement on social media.

Meghan’s former professor, Harvey Young, who had her in his “Studies in Black Performance” class in the spring of 2003, told the Chicago Sun-Times that she was a “respectful” student and thought she had a lot of potential in the industry.

“She reminded me of a lot of our other very promising alumni, in that she was passionate about theater and really had a sense of self-confidence that you could imagine would allow her to weather the storms of the professional world,” Young told the Sun-Times.

Anna Sui, Fern Mallis to Be Featured Guests at Nashville Fashion Week

SUI AND MALLIS TAKE NASHVILLE: Anna Sui and Fern Mallis will be the featured guests at Nashville Fashion Week, a city-wide celebration of Nashville’s fashion and retail community.
“NFW Fashion Talks with Fern Mallis and Anna Sui” will take place April 6 at 3 p.m. at Union Station Hotel. Sponsored by Union Station Hotel and UAL, the event will include a VIP reception, where guests will receive a signed copy of Mallis’ book, “Fashion Lives: Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis.” Sui and Mallis will take the stage at 4 p.m. to share insights and personal stories. Middle Tennessee State University’s School of Textiles, Merchandising and Design will live-stream the conversation during the event. This is Mallis’ third Nashville Fashion Week.
The Nashville Fashion Week finale runway show will showcase Sui’s spring collection on April 7 at OZ Arts Nashville.
Sui has over 50 boutiques in eight countries and sells her collection in 300 stores in over 30 countries. She has also launched cosmetics, fragrance, shoes and accessories licenses.

Kelly Slater, Shepard Fairey Featured in Fair Trade USA’s ‘We Wear Fair Trade’ Campaign

To mark the anniversary of the Rana Plaza Factory Collapse, Fair Trade USA will launch a digital photo campaign called “We Wear Fair Trade” with its apparel partners Patagonia, Outerknown, Obey, Athleta and Prana, on Fashion Revolution Day, April 24.
The trade group, which provides the Fair Trade mark to products that adhere to a strict checklist of sustainable and ethical labor practices, has moved beyond food products such as coffee, bananas and chocolate to apparel and home goods, starting in 2010.
With its brand partners, the group has created a photo campaign, shot by outdoor photographer Jeff Johnson, to encourage consumers to choose Fair Trade Certified clothing.
The series of still portraits features thought leaders and athletes wearing their favorite Fair Trade Certified products. These include Patagonia chief executive officer Rose Marcario, the brand’s freediving ambassador Kimi Werner and surfing ambassador Dan Malloy; Outerknown founder Kelly Slater and chief creative officer John Moore; Obey founder and artist Shepard Fairey; Athleta president and ceo Nancy Green; and Prana climbing ambassador Chris Sharma, and surfing ambassador Kelly Potts.

What If ‘Beauty And The Beast’ Featured Only Justin Bieber Songs?

It’s “Beauty and the Beast” as you’ve never heard it before ― using Justin Bieber songs.

Patty Cake Productions, a video company based in Orlando, Florida, has just posted a mini version of the classic Disney musical, where the characters croon Bieber’s tunes instead of the original soundtrack.

And it works amazingly well.

For instance, the song “I’ll Show You,” proves to be a satisfying replacement for the original opening track, “Belle,” while his song “Company” is a great stand-in for “Be Our Guest.”

“Beauty and the Bieber” is the brainchild of Layne Stein and Tony Wakim, who have been working on the project for 5 and a half months.

“We realized [Bieber] actually has a song called ‘Beauty And The Beat,’” Wakim told HuffPost. “Then we realized a lot of his songs fit the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ narrative.”

Stein and Wakim gathered a cast of 57 people and filmed the video on location at various Orlando landmarks that resembled a castle, a tavern and a French village.

They finished the video early Friday morning, just in time for opening day for the live-action Disney movie musical, starring Emma Watson.

Wakim hopes both Disney and Bieber appreciate the tribute.

“We don’t want to parody or poke fun,” he said. “We just wonder what musicals would sound like with other composers.”

Stein and Wakim have done similar projects in the past, including “Cinderswift,” which is “Cinderella” with Taylor Swift’s music; “The Will.Of.Oz,” a version of “The Wizard Of Oz” featuring the songs of the Black-Eyed Peas; and “Snow Spears,” which tells the story of “Snow White” using Britney Spears’ music.

Next up is “Michaelificent,” which will tell the story of “Malificent” using Michael Jackson songs.

Camille Rowe Featured in Ippolita Spring Campaign

Jewelry brand Ippolita is upping its advertising quotient. The company has enlisted model Camille Rowe and photographer Paolo Roversi for its spring 2017 campaign.
Called “The Style of I,” the campaign features the brand’s new designs, with Rowe photographed in Roversi’s signature haze.
It is the latest campaign for Rowe, a popular Internet figure and model for her petite frame and quasi-French persona. In December, she made her debut in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
“I gravitated towards Camille from the moment I met her. Her international appeal and her worldly, adventurous spirit make her a perfect fit for the brand. Her personal style is thoroughly modern, mixing the allure of an ingénue with the sophisticated style of a young woman who is at home in the world. Camille is the perfect Ippolita “It” girl, and most certainly a rising star,” said Ippolita founder and designer Ippolita Rostagno.

Basic Outfitters to Be Featured on ‘Shark Tank’

Basic Outfitters, a New York-based online retailer of men’s wear basics, has been selected to be one of the companies on ABC’s television program, “Shark Tank.”
Some 50,000 companies apply to be featured on the program each year, but Laura and Michael Dweck, the husband and wife duo behind Basic Outfitters, were chosen to be part of the group of 80 contestants who will be featured on this season of the show, they said. The Dwecks will appear Jan. 6 at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.  
The Dwecks launched Basic Outfitters in November of 2015 shortly after getting married and moving to a small New York apartment. With limited closet space, “Michael’s eclectic and longtime accumulated sock and underwear assortment would have to go and be replaced by a fresh, new and curated collection of basics,” the company said on its web site.
In the past year, Basic Outfitters has experienced a growth rate of around 25 percent a month. Its claim to fame is its “Create-a-Drawer” option, where the company will refill a basics drawer with up to 19 socks, underwear, T-shirts and joggers for $ 60. Both a basic and a fashion drawer option are offered.

Oscar de la Renta To Be Featured on U.S. Postal Stamps

Oscar de la Renta will be part of the lineup for the U.S. Postal Service’s series of stamps for 2017.
Mary-Anne Penner, director for stamp services at the U.S. Postal Service, said, “The new year is shaping up to be exceptional as the Postal Service continues to produce stamps that celebrate the people, events and cultural milestones that are unique to the history of our great nation.” She described the new stamps as part of a showcase of “miniature works of art to help continue telling America’s story.”
De la Renta is widely known for dressing America’s first ladies and celebrities. He passed away in 2014 and was one of the world’s leading fashion designers for more than 50 years.
For the postal series, the pane of 11 stamps features a black-and-white portrait of the designer — by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin — and 10 details from several of his famous gowns. Art director Derry Noyes designed the stamps, the U.S. Postal Service said.

David Beckham, Harvey Keitel Featured in Belstaff Short Film

OH, DOWN IN MEXICO: David Beckham is teaming with Belstaff once again on a short film set to be released on Sept. 22, following the brand’s show at London Fashion Week.
Beckham appears with Harvey Keitel, Katherine Waterston, Cathy Moriarty in “Outlaws,” which was filmed on location in Mexico, with Liv Tyler as the executive producer.
“I always love to challenge myself,” said Beckham. “Filming ‘Outlaws’ in the Mexican desert with Belstaff and the Legs team — not to mention working alongside Harvey, Cathy, and Katherine — was an adventure I will never forget.”
Written and directed by Geremy Jasper, the film has a surreal atmosphere and was produced by Belstaff Films and Legs, a division of Milk Media.
The film follows a mysterious drifter and motorcycle stuntman who is haunted by memories of a beautiful trapeze artist — and hunted by a maniacal director seeking revenge.
The trailer will be released on Monday on the Belstaff brand site, while a wrap party will take place during New York Fashion Week on September 17. The global premiere and party will take place following Belstaff’s show on Monday, Sept. 21.
