Salvatore Ferragamo Men’s Spring 2020

Having Palazzo Vecchio as the backdrop of a runway show is a privilege that only a quintessential Florentine brand such as Salvatore Ferragamo with a long history in this Tuscan city could hope to pull off. Of course such an incredible backdrop might have become a bit overwhelming with a weak collection. But that wasn’t the case for the lineup creative director Paul Andrew showed on Tuesday night.
The antique beauty of the Piazza della Signoria square actually created a charming contrast to the slightly futuristic take on the utilitarian aesthetic injected into the collection. Salvatore Ferragamo’s incredible craftsmanship and heritage stood out, but in a new version, never nostalgic or retro, but projected into the future. The high-tech approach to the treatment of materials, including leather which was embossed and then waxed for a glossy effect, as well a certain sharpness in the cuts, conveyed a look that felt very modern and cool yet never cold or too minimal. Accessories helped put the focus on the duality of the lineup: while the sailing bags and the leather sandals exuded classic elegance, the multipocket bags and chunky boots offered the most functional and cutting-edge essence of Andrew’s fashion proposal for

Salvatore Ferragamo to Stage Men’s Show at Pitti Uomo

MILAN — Salvatore Ferragamo will unveil its spring 2020 men’s wear collection in the brand’s native city, Florence.
The luxury fashion house will stage a runway show on June 11 during international men’s trade show Pitti Uomo.
Following three seasons of coed shows hosted during the women’s editions of Milan Fashion Week, Salvatore Ferragamo will hold the “Florence Calling” event dedicated to its men’s wear collection, designed by creative director Paul Andrew with the support of Guillaume Meilland, head of men’s wear. Andrew has recently put on hold his namesake footwear line to focus exclusively on the design of Salvatore Ferragamo men’s and women collections.
“Florence has always been a creative and inspirational platform for Salvatore Ferragamo and for our founder. Pitti Uomo is therefore the natural location for expressing the contemporary vision that represents us today: strong cultural continuity between different generations, with a constant eye to the future,” Andrew said.
“It is an opportunity for emphasizing our DNA, that added value that makes us distinctly unique,” he added.
Salvatore Ferragamo chairman Ferruccio Ferragamo put the focus on the special link between the company and its native city.
“Florence is our heart, a part of our history,” Ferragamo said. “At a moment of great consolidation

Ferragamo Touts Exclusive Product at New South Coast Plaza Boutique

ALL GLAMMED UP: Salvatore Ferragamo has opened a door at South Coast Plaza, which also marks the release of an accessories capsule exclusive to the Orange County boutique.
The capsule, designed by creative director Paul Andrew and men’s ready-to-wear design director Guillaume Meilland, includes footwear and men’s, including a men’s backpack bearing South Coast Plaza’s directional coordinates and silk quilting on footwear and handbags. The capsule, the company said, is inspired by California.
The pieces exclusive to South Coast range in price from $ 725 for the men’s leather and denim sneakers to $ 1,890 for the silk quilted messenger handbag.
The store’s footprint totals over 5,500 square feet and is broken down into four rooms with an assortment that includes men’s and women’s shoes, ready-to-wear, bags and leather goods, among other accessories.
The design, which was initially rolled out for the company’s Beverly Hills location, draws some references to Hollywood with Art Deco lamps, anchored by wool carpeting and seating in pink velvet and bouclé on the women’s side and red leather for the men’s. Travertine and marble make up the boutique’s exterior.
Ferragamo’s opening continues a number of recent store openings for the Costa Mesa shopping center, which also includes last month’s debut of Lafayette

Salvatore Ferragamo Pre-Fall 2019

The company’s rich archives, the vivid colors of 16th-century painter Bronzino, whose paintings are on show at the Galleria degli Uffizi in Florence, as well as the effortless sartorial elegance of iconic men, including Mick Jagger and John Kennedy Jr., served as inspiration for the Salvatore Ferragamo women’s and men’s pre-fall collection.
During a walk-through at the company’s Milanese headquarters, women’s creative director Paul Andrew and men’s design director Guillaume Meilland put the focus on the coherent attitude running through the women’s and men’s looks. These actually exuded the same luxurious elegance, revealing the high-end craftsmanship deeply rooted in the brand’s heritage.
Taking a step back from the dark tones of the last few collections, the designers played with a lighter, more lively color palette, including bright green, orange, red and ice gray. Constructions were also softened to welcome a sense of relaxed sophistication. For example, upscale padded coats were crafted from silky fabrics, men’s shearling and leather jackets and women’s suede trenchcoats were cut in clean, lean silhouettes, while chic suits revealed a deconstructed approach.
Knitwear took center stage with precious plissé skirts, dresses showing built-in ties to wrap around the neck and embroidered cashmere sweaters. Archival prints were revamped included the

Wanda Ferragamo Remembered in Florence

FLORENCE — Tall candles twinkled in glass vases on the steps in front of the altar in the Santa Trinita church here filled to capacity and surrounding a delicate bouquet of colorful orchids, as a string quartet played Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Ave Verum Corpus.” A month after the death of Wanda Ferragamo at 96, a mass in her memory was held at the 13th-century basilica she helped restore and that stands opposite Palazzo Fini Speroni, headquarters of the Salvatore Ferragamo company.
The moving ceremony reflected Ferragamo and her legacy, attended by her children, Ferruccio, Giovanna, Leonardo and Massimo, their own numerous families and company employees. There were also former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi; the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella; Salvatore Ferragamo chief executive officer Micaela Le Divelec Lemmi and former group ceo Michele Norsa; Carlo Capasa, head of the Italian Camera della Moda; Pitti Immagine ceo Raffaello Napoleone, and the British Ambassador to Italy Jill Morris, as Ferragamo had received the Order of the British Empire recognition.

Shailene Woodley Attends Salvatore Ferragamo Show

A PERFECT STORM: A few weeks after the announcement — and ensuing media frenzy — that the second season of “Big Little Lies” was definitely happening, Shailene Woodley confessed she “didn’t think anyone had expectations” about the series.
“There were no plans to do a second season, but the audience that watched the first begged for a second one,” she said ahead of the Salvatore Ferragamo show.

Flanked by Danai Gurira, Virginia Gardner and Jack Lowden, Woodley said she was still awed by filming “Adrift,” due out this summer. It’s based on the true story of Tami Oldham, played by Woodley, and Richard Sharp, played by Sam Claflin, of “surviving in a class-five hurricane with little food for 43 days,” said the actress.

“It was amazing, we filmed around Fiji — the elements, the nature…it was a profound experience and if I think that we were only pretending but someone actually did it, it was really inspiring.” To be true to the part, Woodley also had to lose weight, but she was game. “It was only for a short period of time,” she said with a smile.

OTB, Salvatore Ferragamo Scoop Up the ‘Corporate Art Awards’

FASHION PATRONS: OTB Group and Salvatore Ferragamo scooped up a prize each, as part of the second edition of the “Corporate Art Awards,” which lauds the synergies between private firms and institutions on art-related patronage.
The award ceremony took place in Rome on Wednesday, at the presence of Dario Franceschini, Italian Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism.
OTB, the fashion group owned by Renzo Rosso, was bestowed with one of the four special awards reserved to private firms. The company was enrolled in this year’s awards after financing the restoration of Venice’s 16th-century iconic Ponte di Rialto bridge. OTB in 2014 had pledged to donate $ 6.5 million over a three-year period and the restoration works were completed last Spring.
Salvatore Ferragamo Group was given the special “Art Bonus” prize, as a reward for the Florentine company’s effort to fund the restoration of the Fountain of Neptune, located on the central Piazza della Signoria, in Florence. Restoration works — which included the makeover of the fountain’s system as well as its sculptural elements — are supposed to be completed by the end of 2018. The firm donated the sum of $ 1.7 million.

Salvatore Ferragamo Appoints Paul Andrew Creative Director, Women’s Collections

MILAN — The trifecta format didn’t work.
On Thursday, Salvatore Ferragamo revealed that Paul Andrew, who had joined the company as women’s footwear director in September last year, will now be in charge of the women’s wear ready-to-wear line as well. His first collection for the brand in this new role will bow for fall 2018. Andrew will oversee the development of all women’s product categories, as well as the creative contents of all marketing, communication and image activities.
The appointment was made public after trading hours in Milan, where the Florence-based company is listed. Shares closed down 1.51 percent to 22.79 euros.
In November 2016, Fulvio Rigoni was appointed women’s ready-to-wear design director and Guillaume Meilland as men’s rtw design director. Rigoni debuted his looks on the catwalk in September 2016, but his efforts have received a mixed response, while Andrew’s footwear collections have generally been praised.
“Paul has a dynamic vision for the Ferragamo woman, which he has demonstrated with crystal precision and success in footwear over the past year,” said chief executive officer Eraldo Poletto. “He has a sensitivity for the essential codes and values of the Ferragamo house, and is able to recast and reassert them with an exciting, modern energy. Guillaume Meilland Juggles Past and Present for Ferragamo Debut

During his lifetime, Salvatore Ferragamo was renowned for his design innovations that established his company as one of the world’s leading luxury brands. Now Guillaume Meilland wants to bring some of that same innovative spirit to the fashion house’s men’s wear.
A newcomer at Milan Men’s Fashion Week, Meilland will show his first men’s wear collection for the brand at a show scheduled for Jan. 15. The French native was appointed design director of the Florentine luxury brand’s men’s wear ready-to-wear division last September, succeeding former creative director Massimiliano Giornetti, who left the company last March. Salvatore Ferragamo also tapped Fulvio Rigoni and Paul Andrew to oversee women’s ready-to-wear and shoes, respectively.
“As soon as I joined the company I tried to observe the legacy of the house and I realized that the authentic spirit of Salvatore Ferragamo is truly alive in the brand,” said Meilland, revealing that he was particularly attracted to the company founder’s innovative attitude, his search for the perfect fit and the sense of ease he used to inject in his creations. “I want to transmit the same things in the garments I design — as well as Paul Andrew is doing in the women’s shoes,” explained Meilland,

Ferragamo CEO Touts Benefit of Milan Expo

EXPO-NENTIAL: Michele Norsa, chief executive officer of Salvatore Ferragamo, gave a thumbs up to Milan’s Expo. “We’ve seen an extraordinary increase in business here in August but also in September,” Norsa said ahead of the show on Sunday. The executive explained that the planning of trips to Expo has grown more structured and organized since the international fair opened in May. This has benefitted not only Milan, but Italy in general. “Most visitors stay in Milan and at the Expo for a day and a half, but also travel to Florence or Venice and Rome, for a total of at least six days in the country. The presence of tourists creates income, which generates spending, and a total positive effect,” said Norsa.

Expo, which is focused on the theme of nutrition and feeding the planet, is slated to close at the end of October.
