Oscar de la Renta, Saks Fifth Avenue Partner to Mark Save Lake Tahoe’s 50th Anniversary

When models walked the runway at the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s fund-raiser in 1969, they were barefoot on a beach.
“It was raw,” said Saks Fifth Avenue’s president Marc Metrick, of the original setting. “It was fashion at its core.”
Held at a Rubicon Bay beach house on the lake, the function began as a collaboration between the late Bill Blass and Saks Fifth Avenue’s James J. Ludwig, a vice president and general manager of the retailer’s San Francisco branch at the time. Along with Eugene Levin, owner of Maurice Rentner (Blass was its designer), they took notice of Bay Area customers vacationing in Lake Tahoe for the summer and relocated their habitual fall presentation, usually held in August, to the Sierra Nevada area.
“It moved from a fashion show with boxed lunches — literally, there were boxed picnic lunches — to an involved community event,” continued Metrick.
What started as an intimate show has evolved into a significant production that has raised $ 1 million this year and a total of more than $ 18 million for programs dedicated to the protection and preservation of the Lake Tahoe Basin. The affair, which now showcases Oscar de la Renta designs, celebrates its 50th anniversary this weekend.

Milano Moda Graduate Awards Fifth Edition’s Winners

Nurturing the next generation of fashion talents is key to the Italian chamber of fashion, which for the fifth year kicked off Milan Fashion Week Men’s with its Milano Moda Graduate event.
Conceived as a celebration of free creativity and a chance to give credit and visibility to young designers, the runway show featured collections from eight students selected from a range of Italian fashion schools including IED, Istituto Marangoni, NABA and IUAD, Accademia Della Moda, among others.
“The CNMI [Camera Nazionale Moda Italiana] Fashion Trust is involved in really supporting these talents and this event marks the official kickoff of the Men’s Fashion Week. I’m proud because one of our pillars is to nurture these young designers and be committed to sustain education,” said Carlo Capasa, chairman of the fashion association.
Francesco Murano of Milan’s IED scooped up the CNMI Fashion Design Prize for best collection. The trust, a nonprofit entity established last year and supported by a group of philanthropists, entrepreneurs and investors, which helps young talents, backed the winner with a 10,000 euros monetary award.
“We’ve seen unique fashion pieces and talented, skilled young designers, the overall level was very high, which made it hard for us to make a choice,”

Outerwear Brand Bacon Creates Capsule for Saks Fifth Avenue

Customers into cozy, fashionable puffer jackets have yet another option to choose from.
Italian contemporary outerwear brand Bacon — which already lists Gigi Hadid among its fans — has unveiled a small capsule collection with luxury department store Saks Fifth Avenue.
The brand’s signature women’s “Puffa” style jacket was reinterpreted in two exclusive colorways: red and blue. The cropped jacket, retailing at $ 615, boasts an exaggerated collar and a tie detail.
Additional styles and dedicated colorways will be added to the capsule early next year, strengthening the tie-up with the U.S. department store.

“We want to shift the customers’ perspective on down jackets and we are really focused on trying to evolve the silhouettes. After a few seasons of oversized shapes, we’re gently shifting toward more refined styles, without giving up our rock soul,” said founder and ceo Andrea Pilato Barrara.
The brand delivers fall duvet coats for women featuring oversized proportions and in a number of bright colors informed by the Nineties aesthetic. Established in 2008 as a sportswear label, Bacon will launch its first summer season in 2020 with a selection of windbreakers. Starting with the current fall season, it also introduced two men’s

Fifth Harmony’s Ally Brooke Is Ready to ‘Unleash’ Herself with Solo Music: ‘For So Long, I Was in This Box’

Former Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke is “Miss Movin On.”

The 25-year-old opened up exclusively to PEOPLE recently about her newest venture as a solo artist after the pop group announced an indefinite hiatus in May. First on Brooke’s list? She’s ready to “unleash Ally.”

“For so long I was in this box and now I’m out of it,” she says. “I’m able to be who I want to be.”

“Even my mom got emotional the other day. She’s like, ‘Ally, you are you again,’” she adds. “And it’s beautiful. It really is.”

Brooke recently signed a solo deal with Atlantic Records’ Latium Entertainment, where she says she is receiving all the support she has ever wanted to make her own music.

“I love being able to have a say in everything that I do,” the singer says. “They’re so open and also very smart and meticulous, and they pay attention to the details which is something that I’m just such a fan of.”

As for the type of work that fans can expect from her, Brooke says that the music “will be different than Fifth Harmony” but will still feature a young vibe that set the girl group apart from other artists.

“It’ll definitely have some flavor and flair, and I’ll be able to really be a different Ally than I was in Fifth Harmony,” she says.

There is no date set for the release of her new music, but Brooke is excited “about a few records.”

“We’re kind of just going with the flow, but you should definitely stay tuned. Sometime between now and 2022,” she says, laughing. “AB1 is on its way.”

The Latina artist is also excited to pursue Latin-influenced music, and “definitely has plans” to sing in Spanish. In fact, her new label is known for Latin artists like Play-n-Skillz and Messiah, who is featured on the Spanish remix of Cardi B’s smash hit “Bodak Yellow.”

Cardi B is on the list of people Brooke would love to work with, along with Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez, who has been one of her inspirations since she was young.

“She’s such an outstanding performer,” she says. “She’s Latina and she’s paved the way for so many people. For me to even exist, it’s because of her, which is unreal.”

Brooke has been working on a couple songs with songwriters and producers like Yei Gonzalez, who produced “Dinero” by Jennifer Lopez ft. DJ Khaled and Cardi B, Grammy winner James Fauntleroy from 1500 or Nothin’ and Diane Warren, who has had nine No. 1 songs on the Hot 100.

Can’t wait till ya hear 🙈 @warren_diane 💖

“I actually had a dream list of writers to work with and was on there,” the “Perfect” singer says. “I found the list the other day and I scratched her name off which is really such a moment for me. It is very special.”

Recently, Brooke attended the Teen Choice Awards, where she was nominated for Choice Electronic/Dance Song and met up with former Fifth Harmony singer Normani. Aside from interacting through social media, she says she and the girls haven’t seen each other since their last show in May.

“Everyone’s doing their own thing so we haven’t really talked to each other,” she says. “I think everyone’s just in their own lane, in their own element.”

Along with her solo ventures in music, Brooke has been an avid representative of the ASPCA. She recently began fostering two kittens named Ladybelle and Minnie and plans to adopt them soon.

“We need to be their voices. They don’t have voices and we need to protect them,” she says. “They’re pure beings and we just need to take care of them.”

Brooke is content with where her life is today and says she is happy to have “the record label of my dreams.”

“I have a team who really believes in me and fights for me and who wants to see my visions come alive,” she says. “It feels like nothing I could ever describe, but I’m just thankful and I feel so blessed.”

Fifth Harmony’s Ally Brooke Posts Inspiring Message Before She Takes the VMA Stage: ‘Dreams Do Come True!’

Ahead of the highly anticipated Fifth Harmony appearance at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, Ally Brooke shared an inspiring post on Instagram about her career and living her dream.

The 24-year-old singer — who has been performing since the age of 9 — shared a tweet she posted in 2012 about the VMAs being a source of inspiration for the singer. “Watching the VMAs just inspires & motivates me even more 🙂 #dreamer #believer #oneday,” Brooke wrote back in the day.

“On September 6, 2012, I tweeted this….today, August 27, 2017 I will be taking the VMA stage with my girls….can’t describe my emotion,” Brooke wrote. “It’s hard for me to not breakdown in tears as I read this….thank you to GOD for this opportunity….it’s something I’ve dreamed of for so long….my cup of joy & gratitude is overflowing….I want to encourage everyone out there to KEEP DREAMING.

“Work hard. Follow your heart! Dreams do come true! Always believe. I am taking every millisecond in today. And will leave my heart on that stage tonight, more than I ever have 💛.”

Brooke’s career launched after the San Antonio native auditioned for TV’s The X Factor in 2012. It was there that she landed a spot on what would eventually become Fifth Harmony. Although 5H didn’t win the televised competition, the group went on to have success of their own.

In May, Brooke opened up to PEOPLE Chica about 5H as well as her “biggest inspiration” — the late Tejano singer, Selena Quintanilla.

“Selena is my angel,” Brooke said. “She is my biggest inspiration. Being from San Antonio, Texas, I really feel that connection to her because she had a lot of performances and a lot of her most iconic performances in San Antonio. Back in my hometown, we love her. We all as a community celebrate her and adore her. We keep her memory alive.”

PEOPLE Now spoke with the foursome —  Lauren Jauregui, Brooke, Dinah Jane and Normani Kordei — backstage during their Thursday rehearsals for the VMAs, where they will perform their new hit single “Down.”

“We’re extremely excited,” said Jauregui. “This is definitely one of the biggest moments of our careers — something we’ve worked so hard for to get to a place where people would want us on the stage, so we’re excited as heck for it.”

The group released their third and self-titled studio album — their first without former fifth member Camila Cabello — on Friday.

Nordstrom Staffers to Join Sunday’s Pride March on Fifth Avenue in New York

Nordstrom employees will be out in force at Sunday’s NYC Pride March in New York.
More than 200 staffers have signed up to march down Fifth Avenue, which is considerably more than last year’s turnout of 80. Organized by the nonprofit Heritage of Pride, this week’s Pride events are expected to attract more than two million people and will follow the theme “We Are Proud.” The event was started to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1969, which started the modern LGBT movement. This year’s march will step off at noon with the help of grand marshals New York firefighter Brooke Guinan, Gay Men’s Health Crisis activist Krishna Stone and Chinese LGBT activist Geng Le.
Nordstrom, as well as Gap, are among the bronze sponsors of this year’s walk down Fifth Avenue, and has done so since 2015. Other apparel companies are also supporting Sunday’s event. Macy’s is

British Fashion Council Marks Fifth Anniversary of London Fashion Week Men’s

MARKING MEN’S: “It’s an incredible achievement for the BFC,” boasted London Fashion Week Men’s ambassador David Gandy at a reception hosted by the British Fashion Council to mark the fifth anniversary of London Fashion Week Men’s on Sunday. Held at the Designer Showrooms at Store Studios, the event also honored the design talent that has taken up space at the Designer Showrooms to showcase their collections. Guests included Gandy, Caroline Rush and Daniel Fletcher.
“I’ve been here since Day One,” said Gandy of London Fashion Week Men’s. “There have been changes in format for the shows and seasons. Everyone has been affected in Paris and Milan. We have to see how it spans over few years. Just having a platform and show space like this for emerging designers is brilliant anyway. Whatever happens, this has to continue because it is such an important role. We have the best fashion schools here. To have a platform for the younger generation during fashion week — which isn’t the easiest thing — it’s very important.”
“I think a lot of brands are waiting to see how it goes,” he added. “We might end up merging the men’s and women’s together and streaming it to the

The iHeartRadio Awards Pulled An Oscars And Gave Fifth Harmony’s Award To Zayn

Just a week after the Oscars flub heard round the world, the iHeartRadio Music Awards said, “Hold my beer.

Before the award show aired Sunday, iHeartRadio announced that Zayn Malik had won Best Music Video for “Pillowtalk.” Unfortunately, Zayn was not the true winner ― Fifth Harmony was.

The iHeartRadio team announced the mistake in a series of apologetic tweets Tuesday.

To add insult to injury, Zayn had already posted a heartwarming thank-you message for the Best Music Video award with Gigi Hadid by his side.

Rather than mercilessly cast Zayn out in the cold, iHeartRadio announced the “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” singer had won Best Solo Breakout Artist ― a brand new category this year.

However, many on social media were quick to point out that they had not previously heard of nor voted in the new category.

Zayn fans began tweeting about the fiasco using the hashtag #iHeartWasRigged.

The category also came as a complete surprise to “Complicated” singer Olivia O’Brien, who didn’t even realize she’d been nominated for the award.

Well, this got messy quickly.

Here’s hoping Zayn, Fifth Harmony and iHeartRadio sort things out. If things get too hairy, we’re sure Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway have a getaway car iHeartRadio can use.

Fear of God’s Fifth Collection

Jerry Lorenzo isn’t the typical men’s fashion designer. He holds an MBA instead of a degree from a fashion school, and he prefers to scour vintage stores and flea markets rather than sketch. He also waited 16 months before unveiling the latest collection for Fear of God, his cult label that has attracted fans such as Justin Bieber, Russell Westbrook, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.
In Fear of God’s Fifth Collection, which is the equivalent of a fall 2017 release, Lorenzo stuck with high school in the Nineties as his theme. This time, though, he walked across the hall from the classroom where the grunge rockers who inspired his Fourth Collection hang to the spot occupied by the hip-hop crew that also excels at sports.
“The muse is more of this high school athlete of the Nineties who, at the time, dictated what is cool in fashion,” he said during a preview at his studio in downtown Los Angeles.
Speaking this muse’s athletic language, Lorenzo introduced mesh and put a lot of attention on sweats, basketball shorts and jerseys. He also veered off course into punkish plaid pants with drawstring waists and unzipped ankles and pajama-style shirts and coats. He expanded his textile

Lauren Jauregui Wants Fifth Harmony’s Diversity To Empower Girls

In an interview with Nylon, Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui shares her thoughts on politics, feminism and her experience at the Women’s March on Washington.

Back in November, Jauregui wrote an open letter to Donald Trump supporters, in which she also came out as bisexual. Since then, the singer has not been shy about sharing her political views with her fans and most recently marched alongside thousands in Washington, an experience she called “the most incredible day of my life.”

When Nylon asked her about Fifth Harmony’s role in society, beyond the music scene, Jauregui explained, “Some of our songs are empowering, but I feel like more so than our music, it’s who we are.” She continued, “We’re four women who are completely different ethnicities, completely different body types, completely different walks of life and opinions.” She goes on to say that she wants the group’s diversity to empower women and encourage fans to celebrate their differences. We sure feel inspired over here!

“We have an energy about us that’s so unique and so intense, and it’s because of how much power we have in us as individuals, being confident, harnessing that power, and wanting to share that with other women.”

North Sails NYC to Open on Fifth Avenue With Sailing-Inspired Apparel

STRONG GUSTS AHEAD: The political climate being what it is, more than a few New Yorkers wish they could just sail away to another land. With next week’s opening of a North Sails store, they will have an outpost to buy sailing gear should they actually follow through on that whim.
The 2,100-square-foot North Sails NYC store will start greeting shoppers Wednesday at 108 Fifth Avenue. The location will be the company’s third in the U.S., since Newport, R.I., and Annapolis, Md., locations opened in recent months. North Sails NYC is an offshoot of North Sails, which was started in San Diego in 1957 by Olympic gold medalist sailor Lowell North. With distribution in 29 countries, the company designs, engineers and manufactures sails for racing and cruising sailboats from 8 feet to 200 feet.
Sailors or boat owners in search of North Sails’ actual sails will have to shop elsewhere. But in line with its nautical heritage, the new boutique will have a beverage bar with a curated international selection of water for shoppers to choose from. North Sails has also partnered with Nespresso to offer espresso and other coffee drinks for consumers to purchase.

As for how she reeled in so many people to the Upper East Side Y, Mallis said, “I don’t want to pat myself on the back, but I did a lot of research. Most people don’t get to know a designer in that way or hear them talk about their lives. There was a warmth and comfort in each of the conversations that made people feel safe in talking to me.”
