EXCLUSIVE: Telfar to Show Film in NYC, Runway in Paris

Telfar is heading to Paris.
The New York City-based designer will present his next runway show on Sept. 23 to open Paris Fashion Week. He won’t leave New York City empty-handed though — the brand will present a film on Sept. 6 featuring a collective of directors and writers including Petra Collins, Ryan Trecartin, Steve Lacy, Clayton Vomero, Ian Isiah, TORSO, Diamond Stingley, Juliana Huxtable, Jeremy O. Harris, Kelsey Lu, and others.
The nonlinear format film was shot in New York, Los Angeles, Ohio, and Paris among others.
“We think we are doing this out of necessity,” said designer Telfar Clemens. “I think it’s good for fashion as a whole to rethink how it works. This is really just an experiment happening live.”
Telfar was established in 2005, although the designer had been producing nongendered clothing since 2002.
In 2017, he collaborated with White Castle on a capsule collection after hosting his runway show afterparty at the fast food chain’s Times Square location in 2015. He won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in the same year and was awarded $ 400,000, and in 2019 was a CFDA Award nominee for Accessory Designer of the Year.
The Liberian-American designer had elaborate shows during NYFW in spring 2019 — that one was held

Miu Miu’s Latest Women’s Tales Film to Focus on Brigitte Lacombe

BRIGITTE ON CAMERA: Miu Miu will present its 18th short film as part of the Women’s Tales series in Venice on Sept. 1 during the city’s International Film Festival.
Dubbed “Brigitte,” the latest installment of the series focuses on photographer and longtime Miu Miu and Prada collaborator Brigitte Lacombe, offering insight into her creative process at work.
Set in a hydraulic factory in London, the short film is directed by Scottish filmmaker Lynne Ramsay, whose most recent feature “You Were Never Really Here” starring Joaquin Phoenix won the Best Screenplay and Best Actor awards at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017.
In the short film, which is shot in a deep monochrome mood, Lacombe discusses her life and ideas with Ramsay, while people close to the photographer make an appearance, including her sister Marian.
Approached by Ramsay with the idea of a documentary, Lacombe said she “absolutely wanted to be a part of it. And I always saw this as a collaboration.…I knew I wanted at the end to turn the camera on Lynne.”
“I hate having my photo taken. Brigitte [Lacombe] was the first person who captured me,” echoed Ramsay, who originally trained as a stills photographer. “She cast a magic spell. I wondered:

Wolk Morais Collection 8 Film Uses Old Hollywood Inspiration, New Hollywood Models

“Our favorite look is not here because it’s with Cate Blanchett,” says Brian Wolk during a walk-through of his new Wolk Morais collection designed with Claude Morais, at the duo’s Hollywood bungalow home-studio.
The designers’ love affair with Los Angeles continues with their eighth collection — spring 2020 — debuting in a short film format, and inspired by a mood board full of old Hollywood screen and wardrobe test images starring Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Sharon Tate, Marlon Brando and more.
“We’ve been using Los Angeles as our muse, backdrop and scenic inspiration and we felt it was time to speak the language of the city,” says Wolk, referencing previous collections, one shown at Hollywood’s historic Yamashiro Japanese restaurant, another inspired by California’s mid-century “California Cool” art movement, another by its private school-going “teenage bourgeoisie.” “Also, it was really fun to cast…we got to call all of our crazy eccentric friends and get them to participate,” he said of the short film’s lineup of Lydia Hearst, Moon Unit Zappa, Aimee Garcia, Rebecca Walker, Monica Abanonu and more.
While many may associate Los Angeles fashion with streetwear or rock ‘n’ roll, the Wolk Morais designers have been zeroing in on tailoring as a specialty,

2019 Cannes Film Festival: Toni Garrn Cohosts Charity Cannes Lunch With Amend

GIVING BACK: “I first worked here when I did a Chanel cruise show up on that hill, I remember walking down was weird, walking up was weird, too. I love this location and I’ve supported a lot of amfARs here,” said Toni Garrn, slipping into her seat at a charity lunch and auction she cohosted with Amend on Friday on the terrace of the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, with views across the Mediterranean.
Over 130,000 euros was raised at the event, with event producer Andy Boose auctioning off items including a Terry O’Neill photo of David Bowie and Elizabeth Taylor and a Chopard Happy Love watch. Guests included Remo Ruffini, John Nollet, Ellen von Unwerth and Daria Strokous, with the funds raised going to Amend’s programs for preventing road traffic injuries to children in Africa and the Toni Garrn Foundation, which supports education initiatives for girls in Africa.
In business mode, Garrn wore a pink suit by Victoria Hayes. “I feel like a Barbie,” said the model-turned-actor, whose latest roles include playing a German secret agent in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”

CANNES, France — “I was lucky because it was called ‘Desperate Housewives’ and not ‘Desperate Husbands,’” quipped Eva Longoria during a Kering Women in Motion talk at the Majestic Hotel on Friday.
The Time’s Up co-founder, whose activism and charitable work has taken on a sense of urgency since having her son, said that the organization is studying what role it can play in the 2020 elections in the U.S. “We’re trying to figure out how can we have an impact, not only with the presidential election, but in state governments. We see what’s happening in Alabama right now, which is crazy, archaic, not progressive, not American,” she said, referencing that state’s banning of all abortions.
On the goal set by Time’s Up to achieve 50-50 equality in the workplace in Hollywood by 2020, “The statistics are going the wrong way, we’re not improving,” she said.
The actor, director and producer who is directing her first feature, “24-7,” in which she also stars alongside Kerry Washington, talked about her efforts to surround herself with a female-led team and how she used “Desperate Housewives” as a film school.

Reilly’s third feature pairing, the fact that critics weren’t invited, and the faint odor of horse manure emanating from the theater on Christmas morning, one doesn’t need to be a master detective to deduce that “Holmes & Watson” is […]

Joker Set Photo Suggests the DC Movie Inspired by This Film

While The King of Comedy is a widely reported inspiration for the Joker origin movie, new clues from the set hint that another Martin Scorsese/Robert De Niro classic — Taxi Driver — could also be an influence.

The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver are both profiles of deranged and broken men, delusional urban loners who criminally lash out at those they feel have rejected them, and the Joker movie — penned by director Todd Phillips (the Hangover trilogy) and co-screenwriter Scott Silver (8 Mile, The Fighter) — certainly sounds like it’s in a similar vein. The official plot synopsis for Joker describes Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck as “a man disregarded by society” and the DC film as “not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

Scream Mega Fans Rent Out the House from the Film to Recreate the Iconic Final Party Screen

Scream lovers can have the scare of their life — at a price.

Die-hard fans Anthony Masi and Nate Ragon reportedly spent $ 22,000 to rent out the 5 bedrooms, 4 bathroom Santa Rosa, CA home from the horror movie Scream to recreate the final party scene for a Halloween celebration, according to TMZ.

But the duo plan doesn’t plan to keep the horror nostalgia to themselves, they are throwing a big spooky bash — just like the characters did in the film.

However, while many who attended the party in the 1996 film paid with their lives, this party will be a ticketed event named Scream Comes Home.

Taking place the weekend before Halloween, the party will allow guests to experience the movie in real life as Masi and Ragon plan to fill the house with scary surprises and memorabilia from the film.

“The movie, SCREAM, was filmed in Santa Rosa, California, and the last act of the movie was filmed in a single location… a large house in Tomales, a little town adjacent to Santa Rosa. This house was known as ‘Stu’s house’ in the script, and the screenplay referred to the length showdown ending as SCENE 118,” Masi and Ragon wrote on the event’s website.

When filmmakers finished filming it, they had T-shirts made up that said, ‘I survived Scene 118.’”

Tickets start at $ 200 for basic entry, but fans also had the option to purchase the overnight package for $ 1750, which sold out in just two days. And for those who really want to be scared, they can have the guy behind Ghost Face’s voice actually call their cell phones.

“Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Ghost Face gave YOU a call? Now you’ll be able to find out because voiceover artist Roger Jackson– the voice of Ghost Face in all four SCREAM films- has agreed to call fans and talk to them just like he does in the movies!” the site explained.

The original film — which spawned three sequels and an MTV television series — starred Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David ArquetteDrew Barrymore also had a cameo in the iconic movie.

Salma Hayek to Receive Franca Sozzani Award at Venice International Film Festival

IN THE NAME OF FRANCA: Salma Hayek will be the second recipient of the Franca Sozzani Award, which recognizes women who stand out for both their artistic careers and their social commitment.
The Mexican actress and movie producer will receive the award, established by late Vogue Italia editor in chief Franca Sozzani’s family, on Aug. 31 during the 75th edition of the Venice International Film Festival. The ceremony will take place at Sozzani’s favorite Belmond Hotel Cipriani, a five-star hotel on Venice’s Giudecca island.
“Her example and her teaching live on in a countless number of little everyday actions, which still punctuate life in the firm today,” said Fedele Usai, chief executive officer of Condé Nast Italia, which supports the Franca Sozzani Award. “This tribute to Franca is an opportunity to celebrate a person who was unique and unrepeatable, and who is a constant and challenging benchmark for all of us at Condé Nast.”

The process included cleaning up flaws and readjusting the color grading to highlight the photography and lighting developed by Sacha Vierny and Alain Resnais using a Dyaliscope lens. The soundtrack was also restored using the original 35-mm. mix.
Accessorized by pearls, the film’s costumes were based on “a wardrobe tethered to everyday life but that evoked the allure of 1920s cinema stars, as well as a modern and timeless elegance,” according to Chanel.

Vanessa Paradis, Johnny Depp’s Ex, Marries Film Director Samuel Benchetrit in France

Vanessa Paradis has a ring on it.

Johnny Depp’s former companion married film director Samuel Benchetrit in a discreet ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

This is the first marriage for the French singer and actress. Paradis and Depp’s two children — daughter Lily-Rose, 19, and son Jack, 16 — were also in attendance.

According to the French newspaper Le Parisien, the couple married in a small schoolhouse town hall in Saint-Simeon, a commune located one hour west of Paris in north-central France.

The bride, 45, carried a bouquet of pink roses while wearing a lacy cream-colored gown with an embroidered veil. Her hair was styled down, with flowers among her tresses.

The couple became engaged last November, a source tells PEOPLE, after they worked together on the film Chien, which screened this May at the Cannes Film Festival.

Approximately two dozen guests were invited to the ceremony, according to eyewitness reports.

Since the couple went public last fall, several locations were thought to have been on the short-list for the ceremony this summer.

Saint-Simeon, a tiny country village of less than 900, was selected for its discretion as well as the attachment Paradis has for the village. She has a country estate nearby, and until his death last year, her father owned a small restaurant in the quiet country commune.

Paradis is a superstar in France, where she began her career as a 14-year old child pop star following the international success of her single “Joe le Taxi.”

WATCH: Go Inside the Cannes Film Festival’s Most Exclusive Party Spot — the Hôtel du Cap

Want to vacation among Hollywood’s most glamorous? Just head to the Hôtel du Cap.

With the 2018 Cannes Film Festival getting under way, stars are gathering at what is often dubbed the most exclusive hotel on the French Riviera — its full name is the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc — to mingle and party throughout the nearly two-week long fest. And PEOPLE Deputy Editor J.D. Heyman is giving you an inside look.

“This has been a Hollywood hotel since the beginning of the 20th century,” explains Heyman.

RELATED: All About the Utah Resort Where Kourtney Kardashian and Younes Bendjima Celebrated His Birthday

The hotel is a hot spot during Cannes. Last year, everyone from Uma Thurman and Will Smith to Jessica Chastain and Tobey Maguire stepped out at the amfAR Gala, held at the hotel every year. And models including Emily Ratajkowski and Coco Rocha shared glam photos of themselves enjoying the iconic property on social media.

The previous year, on-again couple Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry all but confirmed their relationship with a cheeky Instagram post snapped on the hotel’s famous steps.

The property has also been a fixture in literature and a getaway spot for some of America’s most iconic luminaries.

Fitzgerald based the hotel in Tender is the Night ” says Heyman, adding that the Kennedy’s often chose the oceanfront hotel as a vacation destination. ” John F. Kennedy was here when he was 21 years old.” (The hotel is located just off the Boulevard John F. Kennedy.)

During the festival, the hotel serves as the site of numerous parties, including the amfAR benefit and the De Grisogono jewelry party.

And with Hollywood guests as hotel regulars, it’s no wonder rooms can cost at least $ 2,000 a night. In fact, up until 2006, Hôtel du Cap was a cash-only hotel, meaning guests had to either bring wads of bills in their suitcases or wire money to pay for their stay.

But the price is well worth the extravagant amenities and breathtaking views.

“It stretches over 20 acres here of pines and tropical gardens,” says Heyman. “The Hôtel du Cap is the jewel of the French Riviera.”

Michelle Yeoh Will Appear in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Film Adaptation

In honor of Taiwanese brand Shiatzy Chen’s 40th anniversary, friends and fans of the house took over the basement of the Palais de Tokyo, painted in vivid colors. In the front row was a mix of up-and-coming faces such as “Reign” and “Teen Wolf” actress Adelaide Kane or French actress Luna Besson, but also industry heavyweight Michelle Yeoh.
The opulent collection would fit right into Yeoh’s upcoming role as Eleanor Sung-Young in “Crazy Rich Asians,” directed by Jon M. Chu and adapted from Kevin Kwan’s best-selling novel of the same name. She will also star a comedy director and respected action choreographer’s Yuen Woo-Ping.
Comedic value aside, the Asian action star is a firm supporter of women empowerment. “[Helping women being financially independent] helps families and nations to grow,” she said.
