Captain Marvel: The MCU’s Skrulls Have Finally Been Revealed

The Skrulls! Those nasty, scaly-chinned aliens have been plaguing the heroes of Marvel Comics for decades, but for many fans they’ve been conspicuous by their absence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe… until now. Finally, the Skrulls will appear in Captain Marvel, with Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One) playing their leader, Talos, who is presumably the Big Bad of the highly anticipated Brie Larson film.

EW dropped the first official images from the Captain Marvel movie today, and one of them was the debut of what the MCU’s Skrulls are all about. Check it out:

Lottery Winner with Cancer Dies Three Weeks After Finally Being Able to Afford Doctor

A winning lottery ticket worth a million dollars offered hope to one New York man, but the life-changing event would be short-lived as he lost his life to stage 4 cancer just three weeks later.

Donald Savastano, a self-employed carpenter living in upstate New York, struck it rich when he was driving home from work in early January and stopped at a convenience to purchase lottery tickets. The 51-year-old walked in and bought a Merry Millionaire ticket, and scratched it while on his way back to the car—revealing he had hit the $ 1 million grand prize.

“I couldn’t believe it!” Savastano told the New York Lottery in an announcement of his prize. “I brought it back in and scanned it under the ticket checker and knew it was a winner.”

Savastano decided to take the one-time lump sum payment, totaling $ 661,800 after withholdings. The winnings, he said, would allow him to build for the years to come.

RELATED: 20-Year-Old Wins $ 451 Million Mega Millions Grand Prize, Hopes to ‘Do Good For Humanity’

“Being a self-employed carpenter, I didn’t really have a plan for retirement,” he said. “The money will help with that. I don’t have any other extravagant plans. I’ll buy a new truck, pay off some debt and invest for the future.”

One of those plans was finally going to the doctor for a check-up because he hadn’t been feeling well. But the visit resulted in terrifying news: Savastano had stage 4 metastatic cancer.

Danielle Scott, an employee at the store where the ticket was purchased, told ABC 7 that Savastano didn’t have insurance.

“He had a friend come and talk to me,” told ABC 7. “They told me that he was very sick and that he had brain and lung cancer and that he was in the hospital and they didn’t think he was gonna make it.”

Savastano died from the disease on January 26, just 23 days after purchasing his ticket.

“I was hoping that the money was maybe going to save his life,” Scott told the news station.

An obituary for Savastano he learned carpentry from his father as a child growing up on Long Island.

“He was known for his high-quality work and perfectionism,” the obituary reads. “He always tried to reach out and help those he could by teaching them ‘the right way to do things.’ “

Savastano lived with his girlfriend of 12 years, Julie Wheeler, and helped to raise her two sons. The family is asking for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

Dan Harmon Finally Reveals Reason Behind ‘Rick And Morty’ Delays

It’s been roughly an eternity since the last season of “Rick and Morty” (or more accurately, roughly under two years).

The delay for the third season has gone on so long that co-creator Dan Harmon is now worried that fans are speculating the Adult Swim’s animated show won’t be coming back at all. “Rick and Morty” debuted the season three premiere on April Fool’s, but since then there’s essentially been radio silence on the subsequent episodes.

So to quell online rumors that he’s been fighting with co-creator Justin Roiland or that the show is doomed, Harmon wrote a statement truncated into tweets this morning. This apparently isn’t like the 2012 situation with Harmon’s former show, “Community,” when the NBC network and Sony ousted him, leaving a carcass of the television program to decay through a horrid Harmon-less season.

Harmon and Roiland are just taking forever to perfect this thing.

“But the truth in this case is so very boring,” wrote Harmon. “I will put it to you as objectively as I can … The reason S3 took long is because it took long to write, because it was S3 of a show that we were scared to make worse than S2 or S1.”

Fair enough. It’s still entirely unclear when this wonderful show is coming back though.

Below is Harmon’s long, “hungover thread” on Twitter:

Rescue ‘Single White Male’ Cat Who Lived at Shelter Over 400 Days Is Hired as Receptionist, Then Finally Adopted

Champas is handsome with big, soulful eyes and a striking white coat, but he is also a bit shy at first.

This last trait was keeping him from getting noticed by potential adopters. While other cats would strut out to meet families coming through Animal Welfare League NSW, Champas stayed to the back of his cage, avoiding attention, reports Metro.

But the Australian shelter knew the feline, who had been at the rescue since December 2015, had a personality that anyone could love. Hoping to show it off, the staff decided to give the shy guy a job working at the front desk of the shelter as a receptionist.

At his post, Champas was able to greet everyone coming into the shelter, while still getting his own space. To become more available to all the cat moms and dads out there, the kitty started posing with signs describing all his winning attributes.

This little grass roots kitty campaign worked! Soon after moving into the office, Champas found a forever home with a man named Nathan.

They’re Finally Going To Close Rikers Island, America’s Monument To Jail Cruelty

Rikers Island, the gigantic island of incarceration in New York City that serves as an embarrassing emblem of violence, cruelty and neglect in the American jail system, is finally on its way to shutting down for good.

Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed Friday that a plan was in place to shutter the complex ― the nation’s second largest ― within the next 10 years. Many of the details are yet unclear, but at least part of the plan includes moving inmates to new, smaller jails scattered across the boroughs, according to The New York Times. Building those jails could cost around $ 10.6 billion.

An independent commission, created by City Council and headed by New York state chief judge Jonathan Lippman, reportedly plans to release more details on Sunday.

“New York City has always been better than Rikers Island,” de Blasio said in a press release. “[Its closure] will require that our state government, and each component of our criminal justice system, contribute to the reform efforts critical to reducing our jail population and improving re-entry services and educational programming.”

A draft of the Lippman’s report recommends reducing the Rikers population from 10,000 now to less than 5,000 in the near future, according to the New York Post.

“From 1991 to 2016, the daily jail population declined from more than 21,000 to 10,000,” the report states. “The recent history of New York City clearly demonstrates that crime and incarceration can be driven down simultaneously. Contrary to what many people believe, more jail does not mean more public safety.

If it takes 10 years to close the facility completely, it may take a lifetime to shake off Rikers’ reputation.

Several federal reports over the years have found overwhelming evidence of systemic violence, excessive force and neglect at the facility. HuffPost’s Chris Mathias reports that solitary confinement is doled out like candy on Halloween. Assaults on inmates are a dime a dozen, and they’re often covered up. There are nearly 500 inmates between the ages of 16 to 18 there on any given day. It’s been called a revolving door for people of color and the poor.

Rikers also houses a disproportionate number of mentally ill inmates ― at one point, it had more mentally ill inmates than all of the state’s 24 psychiatric hospitals combined ― and critics have long said there’s not nearly enough treatment.

For many, its closure can’t come too soon.

“For too long, New Yorkers ― especially poor people of color ― have languished in this grist mill, where human rights abuses are routine,” Glenn E. Martin, president and founder of JustLeadershipUSA, said Friday. “Countless failed attempts at incremental reform have proven that the only viable solution is to close Rikers. I am grateful that Mayor de Blasio has joined the progressive majority.”

Finally, Democrats Have A Pro Wrestler In Their Corner

ATLANTA ― Curtis Wylde wasn’t expecting to become one of Missouri’s representatives to the Democratic National Committee. But when he showed up 20 minutes late to the state party’s nominating convention last June, he learned the other members of Missouri’s Bernie Sanders contingent had nominated him for one of the four open slots.

Wylde ― known on the Midwest’s weekend pro wrestling circuit as “Volatile” Curtis Wylde ― was surprised, but quickly channeled his wrestling persona to amp up the drama.

A stocky guy with a goatee and a silver-streaked ponytail, Wylde was the last to make his pitch to the voting delegates. The other candidates had delivered their speeches from the middle of the audience, but Wylde strode to the stage at the front of the hall, speaking into the microphone as he walked.

“I’m gonna start this out doing exactly what I plan to do at the DNC,” he said. “And that, ladies and gentlemen, is change the dynamic!”

He hopped onstage, raised his fist and delivered a four-minute populist pitch: “We need to start from the bottom, work our way to the top and take back our government!”

It was not unlike the wrestling videos that Wylde ― who’s also known as “Lion of the Lou” and the “Wolf of West County” ― posts on social media, where he melodramatically threatens wrestling rivals, sometimes from the back of a limousine. And it worked. Wylde and the three other representatives running on the Sanders slate swept the race, elected to represent Missouri Democrats for four years.

Which is how, eight months later, this professional wrestler ended up in Atlanta to cast a vote for Keith Ellison to be DNC chair. He crowdfunded his trip, raising over $ 1,100 ― much of it in $ 27 increments, an homage to his political idol ― to cover airfare and lodging. And while Ellison, seen as the successor to Sanders’ populist presidential bid, lost to former Labor Secretary Tom Perez in a narrow defeat, Wylde and others from the Sanders/Ellison wing of the party believe they will ultimately be able to take it over from the inside.

Wylde, 36, is new to politics, but not to the stage. Crowds of 350 or so typically show up to watch him clothesline and pile-drive competitors with ringside assistance from his wife Chrissi ― or Wyldefyre, as she is known in the ring ― on the Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling circuit.

In the wrestling ring, I’m a little more Donald Trump, and in politics, I’m a little more Bernie Sanders.
Curtis Wylde, Missouri Democratic National Committeeman

“In the wrestling ring, I’m a little more Donald Trump, and in politics, I’m a little more Bernie Sanders,” Wylde said.

Wylde had a hardscrabble childhood: His father left when he was 2, and his mother, a secretary, had an abusive boyfriend for several years. When she could no longer take the beatings, they would move in with his grandparents.

His mother later met and married a truck driver, who become a stabilizing force in Wylde’s life; he calls him “Dad.” The family followed his job opportunities to Mississippi, Illinois and then back to Missouri.

Wylde dropped out of 10th grade to take care of his 2-year-old sister, when financial pressures forced his mother to return to work. As a teen, Wylde bounced from job to job ― he was a server in casual dining chains like Red Lobster and Applebee’s, a bouncer at various clubs and a liquor store clerk. He was invited to join a local biker gang, but he declined.

At 19, he found his passion taking courses at a local wrestling school. He began performing across the Midwest, quickly adopting the role of a wrestling ring villain, or “heel.” His character leads a flamboyant, reckless life punctuated by suspensions and arrests. As part of his outlaw persona, he frequently “cheats” in the staged wrestling matches, using illicit weapons and even attacking the referee.

Heels rarely make it to the major championship titles. But Wylde’s notoriety has earned him an “antihero” following. “A whole lot more people are cheering me than I would prefer,” Wylde joked.

For a while, he supplemented his modest wrestling income by driving the cars that escort oversized loads, and by managing a heavy metal band. Now he has a steady gig as a master of ceremonies at weddings, school dances and other events. With his wife’s earnings as a massage therapist and server at a local restaurant, it’s enough to pay for the double-wide trailer where they live with their 4-year-old daughter, Phoenix.

Prior to Sanders’ presidential run, Wylde’s political involvement didn’t go much further than commenting on Facebook. He voted in a presidential election for the first time in 2008, casting his ballot for Barack Obama. He voted to re-elect Obama in 2012, but says he didn’t vote in congressional or municipal races.

He developed his political views through an interest in futuristic thinkers like Buckminster Fuller, Nikola Tesla and Jacques Fresco, a contemporary theorist who promotes the idea of a “resource-based economy” where money is no longer necessary.

“I didn’t really claim a political standing,” Wylde said. “I didn’t feel there was a place for me, because of these ― not only these left ideas, but these really, really futuristic left ideas.”

He says his political role model is his stepfather, a staunch Republican who died four years ago. While they disagreed on politics, his stepfather instilled in him a philosophy of putting “people first, then profit,” said Wylde.

“If you provide good things, treat people right, then they will treat you right in return and good things will happen,” he said.

In late 2015, Wyde began to notice his Facebook friends discussing Sanders’ campaign. He found himself agreeing with Sanders’ calls for getting money out of politics, providing universal health care, creating jobs and protecting the planet. Most of all, Sanders’ appeals for ordinary citizens to get active in politics made him feel like his voice mattered.

“Bernie Sanders came along and said, ‘Get involved,’” Wylde recalled. “I always had my dad telling me, ‘You can’t make changes from the outside. You’re going to have to get involved. You’re going to have to get in the game if you want to make any plays.’ And so when Bernie came out and said that, I was bound.”

Within weeks, he and Chrissi were organizing a Sanders rally in downtown Saint Charles, Missouri.

When a local party activist suggested Wylde make a bid for for state representative in Missouri’s 107th District, he went for it. Wylde ultimately lost to Republican Nick Schroer, but he got 36 percent of the vote ― and on a campaign budget of just over $ 6,000, compared to Schroer’s $ 77,000. He says he hasn’t ruled out another run for office, and his role as a state representative to the DNC is certainly getting him more attention in Missouri.

Wylde’s “got a lot of energy,” said Brian Wahby, one of Missouri’s at-large DNC members. “It’s also good knowing that there are leftist Democrats in the middle of the heartland.”

Wylde’s personal path to political awakening has convinced him that progressive policies like universal health care and free college can appeal to Republicans if they are framed as investments in America’s future. Canvassing for Sanders, he said, he also realized the importance of a credible messenger who understands why so many ordinary Americans have lost faith in institutions.

“I saw a whole lot of people who may have definitely voted Democrat if Bernie was the nominee,” Wylde said. “I heard that at the doors of Republicans.”

But Wylde was no “Bernie or bust” holdout. He says he voted for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton without reservation. And when a contingent of Sanders supporters stormed out of the Democratic National Convention last July, he urged them not to leave the party. In a fiery speech to Sanders fans gathered outside the convention center, Wylde pointed to Missouri Berniecrats’ successful takeover of the DNC spots as evidence that the party could be changed from within.

“I’m in the Democratic Party, and I’m here to stay, so I have to take it over,” he told the crowd. “All of you have to take it over!”

Wylde has become an informal spokesman for the so-called “#DemEnter” movement, a loose confederation of progressive activists who want to remake the party in Sanders’ image. They hope to turn #DemEnter into a fundraising and recruitment vehicle for progressive candidates.

He’s been using the #DemEnter hashtag to pitch disenchanted voters on the idea that the Democratic Party is their natural political home, if they’re willing to get involved and shape it as they see fit. He spends hours on the phone, in person and on social media trying to convince people to come back to the party. He’s planning a series of social events to build excitement, including a “#DemEnter progressive dance party.”

The work Wylde has been doing “isn’t about Bernie Sanders,” said Chris Reeves, a recently elected DNC member from Kansas. “It’s all about old-school effort.”

But Wylde’s also putting pressure on other DNC members to listen to the grassroots activists in their states. And he is clear about his intention to help progressives nationwide replace the “legacy” Democrats.

Sometimes Wylde’s populist instincts lead him to go overboard. After Ellison’s loss last month, Wylde fired off an angry message on Facebook. “They may have just destroyed the Democratic Party!!” he wrote. He apologized in a separate post a few hours later, assuring his friends and followers that he had confidence in Perez’s leadership, and saying he was especially pleased to see Ellison named deputy chair.

In fact, Wylde sounds downright optimistic about the future of the DNC.

“The vehicle for improvement of the society is the Democratic Party,” he said. “We just need to get people to see that.”

NFL Finally Approves of Yeezy Cleats

FINE FREE: Yeezy Cleats have made another on-field NFL appearance.
Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller launched the Triple Black style over the weekend and shortly after that, Adidas announced on its Instagram account that the black colorway would be sold to the public at some point.
On Monday, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott also wore the model, but in a beige colorway.
Previously players including Houston Texans’ wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, Minnesota Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson and Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver Sammy Watkins wore the 350 version of the cleats and were fined up to $ 6,000 by the NFL. According to the league, cleats must have a solid base layer – the 350s are cream and black with a marbled effect.
While Kanye West has stirred up excitement and money with his more athletic and performance styles, his women’s footwear is still a work in progress.
During his Yeezy Season 4 show in September, West opted for thigh-high stiletto boots that models couldn’t walk in and Adidas disassociated itself from the line, stating, “These particular boots are actually not a part of the Adidas collaboration.”
West’s spokesman underscored to WWD that Adidas has never produced Yeezy heeled shoe designs and the shoe construction will be addressed in the

Chrissy Teigen And John Legend Finally Explain That Obama Sex Thing

God bless Andy Cohen for finally getting John Legend and Chrissy Teigen to explain the connection between Obama and their sex life.

Last year, the two were walking a red carpet and asked by Extra about the “most public place” they’ve ever done it. Never one to hold back, Teigen simply replied, “Probably the Obama thing” before laughing and leaving a shocked and speechless Legend by himself.

When the couple stopped by “Watch What Happens Live” on Wednesday, Cohen asked them to describe that “Obama thing.”

“It wasn’t at the White House, to be clear,” Legend said. “It was at a campaign event that we happened to be at.”

Legend and Teigen revealed that the encounter took place in a bathroom, though they couldn’t agree if it was a public or private.

When the Bravo host tried to compliment the couple on their amazing sex life ― especially after being together for nearly a decade ― Legend and Teigen chimed with a hilariously self-deprecating response.

“This was 2008, by the way ― let’s not get 10 years of credit,” the singer said to laughs, while Chrissy added, “This was a long time ago.”

Watch them dish about their recent hookups (cough, Fred Segal, cough) in the clip above.

Jon Stewart Finally Went Long About The Election And Donald Trump

How do you stay positive during a Trump presidency? In the words of Jon Stewart, “F**king buckle your seatbelt and get ready.”

The former “Daily Show” host shared these thoughts and more at a TimesTalks conversation that featured Stewart and journalist Chris Smith, author of the new book, The Daily Show: An Oral History

“It is odd to be in a position of knowing that the leader of the free world tweeted that you were a pussy at 1:30 in the morning,” Stewart said while discussing the president-elect.

Stewart echoed thoughts he shared on a recent episode of “CBS This Morning,” that the divisions in the U.S. go beyond party lines.

“Not everybody that voted for Trump is a racist,” he said at one point. “I don’t give a fuck what any of you say to me. You can yell it at me, you can tweet it at me. They’re not all racists. Or they’re not giving tacit support to a racist system … We all give tacit support to exploitative systems as long as they don’t affect us that badly.”

He brought up a conversation with another person who argued that “by saying that [Trump supporters] are not all racists, they are giving tacit support to a man of racist language.” Stewart then pointed out that many of Americans are complicit in exploitative and damaging systems, asking the person to pull out his iPhone.

“I was like, ‘Guess how those are made, guess who makes them?’” Stewart said. “’Oh yeah, but that’s … ‘ What, what is it? It’s not different, we all do that. All of our shit stinks and getting beyond that takes incredible work.”

He didn’t let Trump off easy either, remarking that, as portrayed by Trump’s campaign, Hillary Clinton “was an unqualified Secretary of State because the way she handled classified material. His selection for Secretary of State will be David Petraeus, who pled guilty to mishandling classified material. He said she was unqualified because she gave a speech to Goldman Sachs. His Secretary of the Treasury is somebody from Goldman Sachs. We’re in post-accountability.”

“Let’s look out for the losers,” Stewart said. “Having somebody you agree with have greater control over the levers of power might be a comfort, but it’s not a solution. Unfortunately, I think our expectation now is, ‘Oh, great, one of our team is in charge. I don’t have to think about this anymore.’ And I think it’s never actually been the case.”

During the talk, Stewart had much more to say about the election, Donald Trump, Barack Obama and the media. For posterity, HuffPost transcribed a few of his best remarks.

The quotes have been occasionally condensed for clarity. It should also be noted that Stewart often characteristically undercut his points with jokes about masturbation and dildos to lessen the self-seriousness.

In a long, poignant response, Stewart explained he believes the length of the presidential campaign is largely to blame for our divided country.

How long is the campaign? A year and a half? I assume [television media is] talking right now about whose running in 2020. They don’t give a flying fuck about governance, they care about campaigns and that’s where the fun is for them. That’s devastating. And not only is it devastating news-wise, it’s devastating to all of us.

Because if a campaign is too long, the fault lines between different tribes in our societies solidify. A campaign is 18 months long and you’ve got to choose a side for 18 months and then a disagreement becomes an argument and an argument becomes a fight and a fight becomes a feud and a feud becomes a war.

And those lines harden to the point where you can’t get past that … Because what you become is just teams. And the campaigns are just too long. Have you ever been in a parking lot after, like, a Giants game and it’s between a guy in a Giants jersey and a guy in, like, a Cowboys jersey? They will fight. They will punch each other. What is that fight? Like, “Hey! Your shirt, it’s got a star on it. It’s supposed to have an NY. I’m going to have to punch you in the face.” There’s no reason for that, other than basic human primitive nature, and if we turn our discourse into that, then that’s what it will become.

Stewart wanted to stress that satire doesn’t change government — political activism will.

We [at “The Daily Show,” speaking facetiously] were the destroyers of men. And creators of empires. I think that generally is satire’s role and has always been. The rise and fall of civilization at our whim.

[If Stewart still had his show] I would have probably allowed Hillary to come a little closer in the Rust Belt, but I still think I would have given Michigan to Trump. I had a little something going on where i was going to give Gore Florida. There was a bit we had planned that was going to hand Florida to Gore.

I think of one of the lessons of this book and what we’re talking about is to put satire and culture in its proper place. That controlling a culture is not the same as power. And that while we were all passing around really remarkably eviscerating videos of the Tea Party ― that we had all made great fun of ― [they were] sitting off a highway at a Friendly’s taking over a local school board.

And the lesson there is, as much as I love what we did and I liked it, there is a self-satisfaction there that is unwarranted, unearned and not useful.

He expanded on his thoughts about one side’s demonization of the other.

You’ll read about it in the book, I had a really hard time getting over my defensiveness and blind spots about sexism and racism and diversity and all those things. Not because I think I’m an ignorant, racist, sexist person ― I just think I’m a person. And I’m a fucking idiot sometimes.

This has to stop. This idea that we’re all … that our team is perfect and the other team is demons. And this is not like a Kumbaya, let’s all get along.

Let’s fucking fight, but let’s fight with precision and integrity, and not with just demonization.

And I’ll say this, I know a lot of first responders. I spent a lot of time in that community. A shitload of them voted for Trump. The same people that voted for Trump ran into burning buildings and saved whoever the fuck they could no matter what color they were, no matter what religion and they would do it again tomorrow. So, if you want to sit and tell me that those people are giving tacit approval to an exploitative system ― I say, “OK, and would you put your life on the line for people who aren’t like you? Because they did.” I get mad about this stuff.

He pointed out that Obama wasn’t a perfect president.

There are more people in this country that voted for the thing that you like than the thing that you’re afraid of, but the thing that you’re afraid of is not a monolith anymore than the thing that you like is a miracle cure. It’s not a panacea. And Obama has been in office for eight years and I don’t know about you, but it seems like there’s still shit to do.

And there’s a lot of shit that I didn’t agree with. I thought they were terrible for press freedom. I still am not quite sure I understand a centralized policy of spying and droning. Like, I don’t know.

There will be real victims of the policies over the next four years, but there were real victims, like Barack Obama’s administration deported more people than any in history. That was real and whether we took comfort in the fact that he was one of the good guys that did that, real people paid a price for that. And you have to care about that, even if it’s one of your guys that did that.

Here’s his response after a member of the audience asked how Stewart would remain optimistic during Trump’s term.

Let me ask you this ― so eight years ago all branches of government were controlled by the Democrats ― were you [optimistic] then? [Audience member says yes.] Was it perfect? [Audience member says, “Nothing is ever perfect.”] So, on the flip side of that is anything ever ― what you need to do in this situation is rally the troops for those most vulnerable.

In this time that’s difficult, the way you get [optimistic] is, I think, sort of in the way when I was in the show and I was not feeling it. You’ve worked any place for 16 years, some days you come in and you just don’t have it and you suck. And you hope that other people will pick you up. I was very fortunate, at the show, that we had really great people and when I didn’t have it, they did.

But there will be real ramification to this election. [Find] who are the vulnerable people, where are the vulnerable societies. And not in tweets, in practice. In reality.

If [Trump] tries to deport dreamers, then that’s where everyone has to go, to protect them. If he tries to make a Muslim Registry, then everyone has to go there and help them. You have to find the people that are going be most in jeopardy, I think, and put your attentions on them because now it’s about reality.

But the only thing I would tell everybody to hearten is we’re still the same country. Obama didn’t change and fix everything and Trump can’t ruin everything. If we’re that vulnerable to one guy, that guy — that’s how we’re going out? This incredible experiment in liberty and democracy that we fought and died for is going to go out ― with that guy.

That can’t be how this story ends.

 …

Maybe I’m naive or idiotic, but I feel like ― when has this been easy?

Fucking buckle your seat belt and get ready.

…

[Responding to another audience member with a similar response]

I’m optimistic because, I cant believe how much better this country is than it was when it started. It’s always up and back.

And you [the audience member] said something interesting, you said we’re all going to go back to our liberal bubble. I’m like, yeah, that’s a shame.

Because it does create this idea that, in the same way that I hated ― Sarah Palin used to do this all the time ― “Out here in real America.” There’s no real America. It’s just, it is what it is. Generally people are just trying to get to work.

And I think the key for us is to be like, who needs a ride?

Dallas Is Where I Finally Get to See The Famous French “Déjeûner sur L’herbe” Painting By Monet

2016-11-24-1480010837-9205425-dejeunersurlherbe2parties.jpg

Dallas-Fort Worth.

One could possibly think that the Dallas-Fort Worth appellation is just an indication of a big twin megapolis, when in fact, as I discovered Sunday, it’s two very distinct cities, not even remotely touching, with a Grand Prairie in-between – grande prairie means large field in French.

So it took me an hour to drive from Dallas to Fort Worth Arts District to reach the Kimbell Museum.

Needless to say, I was starving when I reached the museum. True fact is that I always eat first at art exhibits, firstly because I am always starving, and secondly because museums have the best cafés and shops.

The Kimbell has a unique flat rate fee for plates of three sizes – small, medium, and large. The menu is the same for all. But you pay by the size of your plate. Some people have mastered the art of piling up tons of food in a precarious balance on their plate. I saw some lunchers with a small plate who had more food than me on my medium one.

Was it “worth” it?

But I digress. Claude Monet is one of these great French painters that everyone knows. They may not know his name but will recognize his art. He is a familiar painter with a subdued and sweet domestic life that accompanied his paintings all his life. His paintings of Venice, London, and Paris are vital witnesses to the cities’ daily landscapes.

Organized in collaboration with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, thanks to loans from 10 countries, and a handful of private collectors, the show offers a unique view of the early years of the master, starting when he was 17 years old and painted the “View at Rouelles” where he lived.

All the paintings presented at the Kimbell are from Monet’s early years and have seldom been seen in museums. The precious exhibit is a must-see for lovers of impressionists’ work.

Le Déjeûner sur l’Herbe.

My favorite Monet piece is the whimsical lunch on the grass, for its romantic setting, the fashion so beautifully described, and the funky story of its missing part. You will only see two pieces of this large painting at the Kimbell, as this is the only remaining parts of the massive representation of a lunch in the woods. Monet explained how the painting got cut up and subsequently gone shorter:

“I had to pay my rent, I gave it to the landlord as security and he rolled it up and put in the cellar. When I finally had enough money to get it back, as you can see, it had gone moldy.”

When his landlord finally gave it back, Monet cut it up and kept only three pieces – but the third part has now disappeared.

Pricey grain stacks.

The auction house Christie in New York just sold last week the piece “Grain stack” for a hefty $ 81.4 million, when the hope was to sell it for half of that. I won’t tell you who bought it, because it’s a secret – the 1891 canvas was won by an anonymous collector bidding over the telephone.

The wheat stack sold is not at the Kimbell, but a couple of the series of about 20 stacks canvases are on view – better hurry to see them before they sell for millions and vanish into some lucky private living room!

2016-11-24-1480010925-9365746-monet.jpg

Another Monet had already set a record for the painter; his “Water Lily Pond” was sold for $ 80.4 million in 2008. The 19-part elliptical painting of the “Nymphéas” is another familiar sight for many. A special studio was built for the size of his project, and he devoted the rest of his life to the large masterpiece.

We are treading far away from cutting up paintings to pay the rent! If only Monet could see the frenzy of collectors around his art today.

Claude Monet was a great impressionist master – good at drawing, and even better at rendition of material such as clouds, water, and snow. Friends with Renoir, his flowers show the influence the other master had on him.

” Qu’y a-t-il à dire de moi ? Que peut-il y avoir à dire, je vous le demande, d’un homme que rien au monde n’intéresse que sa peinture – et aussi son jardin et ses fleurs ?”

(What is there to say about me? What can possibly be said, I am asking you, about a man that nothing in the world interests except his painting – and also his garden, and his flowers?)

Martin Shkreli, the former Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO who famously increased the price of a pill used by HIV patients from $ 13.50 to $ 750, shared part of the secret Wu-Tang Clan album “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin” to the world over Periscope on Wednesday. Then he deleted the video.

Shkreli, a questionable human being who was arrested late last year over securities fraud allegations, purchased the sole copy of the album last year for $ 2 million, and then didn’t let anyone hear it. But in October, he promised via Twitter that he would share the album if Donald Trump won the presidential election, which the then–Republican nominee did early Wednesday morning.

And so it was that Martin Shkreli “shared” the secret Wu-Tang Clan album. Though he subsequently deleted the video, some people ripped it and then uploaded it to YouTube and Streamable, so here you go:

The Huffington Post didn’t reach out to Shkreli for comment, but he did publish the below tweet early Wednesday morning, which is better than any comment he could have provided to us anyway.

Is Apple finally changing the name of OS X?

Apple seems to be in the process of renaming one of its most important products, as evidenced by the wording of some documentation added to the company’s website yesterday. The text of a now-amended FAQ page about Apple’s relationship with the environment initially referred to Mac OS X as MacOS, prompting speculation that a rebranding is in the works. For well over a decade, OS X has been the name for the operating system used on millions of Macs around the world — but it’s fair to say that Apple has changed a lot since the OS was implemented in 2002. This minor edit would bring its moniker in line with the likes of iOS, tvOS, and watchOS. This isn’t the first indication that Apple might be mulling such a change. Last month, the term “macOS” was found in the name of a file included in the OS X 10.11.4 update which was distributed to users on March 21, as referenced in reporting by 9to5Mac.Related: Developer survey shows growing preference for OS X Of course, there is a minor difference between these two pieces of evidence; one capitalizes the word Mac, whereas the other does not. The lower-case style certainly fits the pattern of Apple’s other platforms, but it also makes sense that the company would continue to treat the word Mac as a proper noun. Regardless, the fact that the software development team and the copywriter behind the FAQ page both seem to be familiar with the label MacOS seems to suggest that the rebranding is common knowledge in the halls of Apple HQ. It remains to be seen how long it’ll be before we hear official word from Apple on the situation. Since the release of OS X 10.7 in 2011, Apple has stuck to an annual schedule for the launch of its incremental updates. If OS X is indeed set to transform into MacOS, we can perhaps expect the announcement to be made when the next version is unveiled to the public — which will likely take place in the fall. Also watch: Apple OS X El Capitan – Hands On Please enable Javascript to watch this video

Michael Fassbender Has Finally Played Assassin’s Creed

While Michael Fassbender is set to star as Callum Lynch in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed move, it wasn’t until recently that he finally played a game in the popular video game series it’s adapted from.

“I hadn’t played it before these guys approached me,” Fassbender admitted in an interview with EW, saying he’s since played one of the titles “mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character.”

Fassbender went on to note that he’s well aware of the passion that Assassin’s Creed fans have for the franchise. As such, the studio is “striving to find something special” and deliver the historical accuracy and attention to detail that series veterans expect.

Sheldon And Amy Are Finally Doing ‘It’ On ‘The Big Bang Theory’

Amy and Sheldon are about to prove why they call it “The Big Bang Theory.”

After years of dating, our favorite “Big Bang” couple is finally going to consummate their relationship, aka engage in coitus, aka go “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” aka “The Force Awakens,” aka it’s “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.” In other words, they’re having sex.

Entertainment Weekly reports it’s all going down in the show’s Dec. 17 episode. The show taped the moment on Nov. 17, and the producer wanted to issue a statement on it before the news leaked.

Executive producer Steve Molaro said, “After over five years of dating, we felt the time was right for Sheldon and Amy to finally consummate their relationship, and we’re so excited for the audience to see the journey over the next several episodes,” according to Variety.

The announcement leaves us with a lot of unknowns. Mostly, uh … how? Amy broke Sheldon’s heart in the Season 8 finale, telling him she wanted a break. Does this mean the couple is getting back together? Is this a one-time thing? And this is Sheldon Cooper, remember. Uh … how?

In the original pilot for the show, Sheldon’s character supposedly did reveal he’s had sex before, and you can still find some clips online, but that script went through major changes. The Sheldon we know and love has always been pretty romantically inept. It was years before he even kissed Amy on the show. So coitus would be to go where no Sheldon Cooper has gone before.

Donald Trump Finally Explains Why He Doesn’t Apologize

If any of the presidential candidates have something apologize for, eh … it’s probably Donald Trump. But don’t expect to hear a “sorry” anytime soon.

“I fully think apologizing’s a great thing, but you have to be wrong,” Trump told Jimmy Fallon on his show Friday.

“This is unbelievable,” laughed Fallon. And it is.

During his brief time campaigning, Trump has managed to mock fellow candidates about their looks, publicly attack Fox’s Megyn Kelly over “unfair” questions during a debate and incense millions with his polarizing views on immigration.

Yeah, that’s pretty unbelievable. In Trump’s defense, however, he did say if he was ever wrong, he would apologize “sometime in the hopefully distant future.”

So, yeah, we’ll probably all be dead by then, but at least that’s something.

“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.

Couple Who Helped Win Marriage Equality Finally Ties The Knot

Two women who played an integral role in the Supreme Court’s ruling to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide have finally tied the knot, and Now This News has compiled a beautiful video documenting the occasion.

Jayne Rowse and April DeBoer, a Michigan couple who became plaintiffs in the recent historic legal battle for same-sex marriage rights, married one another in front of approximately 300 friends and family members last week, according to Detroit Free Press.

The pair, who have four kids, initially only pursued a legal case about adoption rights, since Michigan’s adoption code doesn’t allow for joint or second-parent adoption. However, Rowse and DeBoer became one of the couples to join other plaintiffs from Ohio, Tennessee and Kentucky in a combined marriage equality case known as Obergefell v. Hodges, wherein the Supreme Court ruled in favor of gay couples, thereby guaranteeing marriage equality across the nation.

“Little did I know that you would bring me four beautiful kids… and drag me into the Supreme Court,” DeBoer told Rowse during her vows. “I am honored to soon be your legal wife… You are my best friend. I promise to love you forever. I can’t imagine my life without you and without our kids. I promise to stand by you forever.”

Congrats, Jayne and April!

After Being Denied 73 Years Ago, 92-Year-Old Black Woman Finally Receives Her Library Card

Ninety-two-year-old Pearl Thompson was a student at Shaw University in 1942 when she attempted to check out a book from the Olivia Raney Library in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her school, which is an HBCU, didn’t carry the book she needed for a history class so she visited the local library. According to her daughter, Deborah Thompson, Pearl was denied a library card because she was black, so instead, she was sent to the building’s basement to read the book.

“I expected to go in and get a book,” Pearl told News & Observer.

Seventy-three years later, Pearl returned to Raleigh with her daughter and granddaughter and finally got her library card.

Pearl Thompson signs the back of her library card.

“She was fighting good health but she was determined to make this trip,” Deborah told HuffPost. She said Pearl is currently battling kidney disease and suffers from heart issues — but she wouldn’t let that stop her.

The Olivia Raney Library was the city’s first public library and later became a part of the larger Wake County Public Library system. In the 1960’s, it merged with Richard B. Harrison Library — a library Deborah said Pearl helped to launch — which only served blacks at the time. The Olivia Raney Library, which is now closed, serves as a local history library and the administration at Cameron Village Library, which opened right after Olivia Raney Library closed, held a ceremony in Pearl’s honor last week.

“We all felt that the presentation of Mrs. Thompson’s library card needed to be honored with a ceremony and we also wanted the opportunity to rectify a mistake of the past,” Ann Burlingame, deputy director of Wake County Public Libraries, told The Huffington Post on Tuesday.

After college, Pearl, who has always been an advocate for education, went on to become a teacher in Raleigh for nearly fifty years.

“I was determined that when I became a teacher every child would have an opportunity to learn to read,” Pearl said at the ceremony. “A little boy [had] Down’s syndrome and they said he would never learn to read. And I taught him to read. Even to the point he wrote books himself.”

Thompson moved to Ohio with her husband after 12 years as a teacher in Raleigh, and she now lives in Cincinnati where she taught for 37 years. Decades after her days in college, she said she doesn’t hold a grudge against the library and their poor treatment.

“I don’t hold any kind of hate in my heart, because that doesn’t do it,” she said. “That doesn’t get you there.”

Elizabeth Berkley Finally Embraces ‘Showgirls’ After All These Years

1995 just wasn’t ready for the campy brilliance of “Showgirls.” But 20 years after the film flopped in theaters its star, Elizabeth Berkley, has finally embraced the cult classic — and the film’s adoring fans.

On Saturday night, the former “Saved by the Bell” star gave a heartfelt speech before a screening of the film at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.

“This is such a special night, you don’t even know. This is 20 years in the making, I can’t believe I’m here with you. 4,000 people. 4,000 Nomis, 4,000 Cristals,” the 42-year-old actress told the massive crowd.

Berkely went on to say how she did everything her character Nomi Malone would have done to get this part.

“When a dream is happening, it’s unlike anything you can imagine. Which is why, when the movie came out, it was more painful than anything you can imagine,” she said. “While in 1995, it was such a different time when taking risks like that were not embraced. They were laughed at, they were shamed publicly, and to be a young girl in the center of that was something that was quite difficult.”

elizabeth berkley showgirls

Two decades ago, critics were not kind to Berkley or the NC-17 rated film, but critics be damned, as Berkley learned it’s the fans that matter.

“Tonight is like this magical full-circle moment, where I actually didn’t get to experience the sweetness of a screening with a crowd that embraced it. Tonight I want to thank you guys for giving me this gift of truly getting a full-circle moment of experiencing the joy with you,” she said, adding, “because you guys and the love you have for this movie have made this the cult film that it is.”

Berkley concluded her speech by telling the audience, “I hope that you grab life and go Andrew Carver on its ass. Just know that I love you guys so much and thank you for giving me strength and confidence to become the woman that I am.”

And while Berkley may have shunned the film for the last 20 years, she proved she still remembered the best parts just as any true “Showgirls” fan would by posting the legendary “Versace” scene to her Instagram account:

RHONY’s Sonja Morgan’s Clothing Line is Finally Here, Guys!

Anybody who knows anything about Real Housewives of New York City knows that there’s been a lot of plot line action surrounding Sonja Morgan’s clothing line. (Is it happening? Is it not happening? Why did she invite Bethenny, not Heather, to preview it all?).

sonja-morgan-rhony-wwhl

Well lo and behold, it’s happening, with a website taking preorders for a range of dresses, tops, jackets, and swimsuits that actually look really good.

This sheer-back blouse would work well on a date, on the weekend, or worn under a respectable blouse for work. Also? So Sonja.

If you watch the show, you might remember Sonja talking about how the line was going to encompass all the types of pieces she wears regularly, including polished jackets. This open-front shawl style, in a vivid red, would look amazing on Lady Morgan.

Swimsuits are included too (both one- and two-pieces) and everything has the classic look we’ve seen her wear when the ladies summer in the Hamptons or beyond.

And, as promised, the evening gown she wore to celebrate her cover of Latino Show is available for everyone to purchase (though at $ 1,095, it’s definitely not the Kmart level fellow housewife Heather Thomson asked about).

Viola Davis On Finally Playing A ‘Sexualized’ Woman

It takes guts for a Hollywood actress to portray an imperfect woman. Or as Viola Davis calls it, to “woman up.”

During The Hollywood Reporter’s Emmy Nominee Actress roundtable, Davis opened up about her lead role on “How to Get Away with Murder” — and the anxiety and self-doubt that came along with getting it. The roundtable also included fellow small-screen powerhouses Jessica Lange, Lizzy Caplan, Viola Davis, Ruth Wilson, Taraji P. Henson and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Davis discussed what it was like to be cast as criminal defense attorney and professor Annalise Keating. “There was absolutely no precedent for [the role],” Davis said. “I had never seen a 49-year-old, dark-skinned woman who is not a size 2 be a sexualized role in TV or film. I’m a sexual woman, but nothing in my career has ever identified me as a sexualized woman. I was the prototype of the ‘mommified’ role.”

When she accepted the part, Davis said she felt terrified — and then empowered.

Fear would be an understatement. When I saw myself for the first time in the pilot episode, I was mortified. I saw the fake eyelashes and, “Are you kidding me? Who is going to believe this?” And then my big “aha” moment was: “This is your moment to not typecast yourself, to actually play a woman who is sexualized and do your investigative work as an actor to find out who this woman is, and woman up and put a real woman on TV who’s smack-dab in the midst of this pop fiction.”

Davis also touched on the pressure women in Hollywood feel to play characters that are “likable.”

“The thing I had to get used to with TV was the likability factor,” Davis said. “People have to like you, people have to think you’re pretty. I was going to have to face a fact that people were going to look at me and say: ‘I have no idea why they cast her in a role like this. She just doesn’t fit. It should have been someone like Halle Berry. It’s her voice, and she doesn’t walk like a supermodel in those heels.’ And people do say that, they do.”

But Davis has been able to tune out the naysayers by challenging herself to place the real world before Hollywood. “The women in my life who are sexualized are anywhere from a size zero to a size 24. They don’t walk like supermodels in heels. They take their wig and makeup off at night,” Davis said. “So this role was my way of saying, ‘Welcome to womanhood!'”

Head over to The Hollywood Reporter to read the full roundtable discussion.

Barbie’s Brand-New Ankles Finally Allow Her to Wear Flats

For as long as we can remember Barbie‘s perpetually been stuck in a tippy-toe stance, ready to slip into heels and…well, stand around. With the unveiling of a brand-new range of dolls, Barbie has finally gotten articulated ankles—joints that actually move, allowing her the option to switch between heels and flats.

new-barbie-has-adjustable-ankles

The big news here isn’t that Barbie’s in flats—it’s that she (via the army of youngsters who play with her) gets to choose what sort of footwear she/they are feeling on any given day. Other dolls feature feet in a perma-flat position (like this and this), but the style pictured above has been crafted with ankle joints so that two pairs of shoes, ankle boots and flats, both work.

Taking Barbie out of a stiletto-only environment certainly registers as a sort of feminist fashion win, but this multi-choice option is actually even bigger. Flats OR pumps? It’s the lady’s right to choose.

9 Signs You’re Finally in a Mature, Adult Relationship

This was originally published at www.elitedaily.com

Media dictates so much in today’s world — including relationships.

Whether portraying unrequited love, forbidden love or passionate love, the media’s ideas of love all have something in common: drama.

After all, drama drives the media.

But, guess what? When you’re in a dramatic relationship, this reality isn’t so appealing. Dramatic relationships are just plain sh*tty, and there’s nothing romantic or alluring about that.

Real relationships, to be quite honest, could almost be considered boring, and the media doesn’t value “boring.”

For years, I bought into the idea that a relationship needed some type of drama to be legitimized. As I’m settling down, I’m realizing how truly wrong and exhausting that mentality was.

For the first time in… well, ever, I’m in a healthy, mature relationship. It’s different than previous relationships I’ve had because this one is real. It is solid. It is stable. It is everything I’ve ever wanted, and everything I didn’t know I needed.

It’s also everything I ran away from in the past because it just seemed too “boring.” Only now am I realizing that there is a difference between a boring relationship and a stable, mature one.

1. Being your significant other’s partner isn’t hard.

Until recently, I always struggled when I was in a relationship. Feelings of uncertainty and anxiety were overwhelmingly normal, while feeling secure in the relationship was not.

Maybe this is obvious, but it shouldn’t be the case. Being someone’s partner should come easily rather than feel like a chore or a responsibility.

2. You don’t have to be in contact 24/7.

Part of an adult relationship is realizing that each person has his or her own world, separate of one another. This means that being together all the time or constantly texting just isn’t feasible, and that is OK.

Actually, it’s even nice. I love my boyfriend, but if I talked to him constantly, I’d go crazy.

3. You don’t want to change your significant other.

I’ll admit that I have a history of seeking out broken people and trying to fix them, which never ends well. This isn’t the case in a healthy relationship.

In a healthy relationship, changing your partner shouldn’t even be a desire on your radar. Changing annoying little habits is one thing, but changing or fixing who someone is as a person should not be your goal. Maybe he or she isn’t perfect, but he or she shouldn’t have to be.

4. Your significant other balances you out — and even calls you out.

Rather than always agreeing on every aspect of life, your relationship tests and challenges your views. Your partner brings new views to light — possibly ideas that oppose your own.

When you don’t agree on a topic, it isn’t the end of the world. You acknowledge each other’s positions and move on.

5. Discussing the future isn’t scary.

In immature relationships, there is less certainty and less communication about the status of the relationship, therefore less willingness to discuss the future.

In an adult relationship, plans can be made months in advance without stopping to wonder where the relationship will or won’t be.

6. You may disagree, but you don’t all-out fight.

Observing how the other person argues and adjusting your own style is a learning process, but part of a mature relationship. For example, I tend to shut down when I am angry, whereas my boyfriend is more direct.

Adjusting to this was difficult at first, but now that we know each other’s style of disagreement, we are able to communicate in a more mature manner.

7. Showing your love becomes more important than verbally expressing it.

It used to irritate me that I am more vocal about telling my boyfriend I love him. He, on the other hand, doesn’t say it as often, but shows it in his actions.

Over time, I’ve realized that this is preferable to hearing it all the time. Sometimes love is in the day-to-day actions rather than the literal words, and this is definitely a more mature viewpoint.

8. Jealousy is a non-issue because the relationship is founded on trust.

In an adult relationship, the male can have female friends and vice-versa without the world coming to a screeching halt. Each partner is secure in the other’s commitment and does not possess an unfounded worry about cheating or dishonesty.

9. You’re in sync with one another — mentally and physically.

This may sound like it’s about sex, but it is not the case. It’s more about knowing a person so well and having developed such a connection that his or her smallest movement can be predicted — or sentences finished. It’s about him or her becoming an extension of you in a healthy way.

You Can Finally Watch Tommy Wiseau’s Sitcom ‘The Neighbors’ On Hulu

If you’ve seen “The Room” or are even slightly aware of the cult phenomenon that followed the “worst movie ever made,” then you know who Tommy Wiseau is. You might also know that for over five years he’s been working on a follow-up sitcom titled “The Neighbors.”

First there was a teaser trailer back in 2009, then Wiseau screened the pilot last year and re-announced the sitcom with a website. But now “The Neighbors” is finally here, and you can stream the first four episodes on Hulu Plus. The remaining eight episodes will be released in two more batches this summer.

Wiseau wrote and directed the show, and also stars in it as two characters: Charlie, an apartment complex manager, and, according to Entertainment Weekly, “a teenager named Ricky Rick.” But instead of attempting to describe what the heck “The Neighbors” is actually about, we’ll just give you the exact synopsis, which tells you everything (but really nothing) you need to know:

“The Neighbors” is a sitcom about the relationship between a group of neighbors who live in an apartment building. The lead character is Charlie, the manager of the building. The tenants are a diverse group of personalities, all of different ages and backgrounds, constantly bringing their problems to Charlie and his secretary / girlfriend Bebe. The character of Princess Penelope creates a commotion after she witnesses the ghost of her uncle Prince Charles. It is a fresh and humorous look at human behavior through different points of view. This cocktail of characters always guarantees plenty of surprises. The demographic is all inclusive.

Go get out your collection of spoons, grab a football and binge on the first batch of “Neighbors” episodes. And if you don’t? In the words of Wiseau, you’re just a chicken.

Kourtney and Khloe Finally Relinquish The Hamptons

They say all good things must come to an end, and so here we are. On Sunday night, we bid farewell to “Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons” and I gotta say, I am not sad to see it go. The season finale was one of the better episodes of the season however that is not much of a feat. The bar was very low.

Still, there are a few important things we MUST talk about.

I am so glad to see everyone finally admit that “taking” the Hamptons was a pretty terrible idea. The experience was so bad that the cast (sans Kourtney and Scott) spent the episode getting drunk and sloppy. Even Kim, who we rarely see drinking, toasted to the girls’ departure.

We also need to talk about how GORGINA Kim looked the entire episode. Literally, she was breathtaking. When Khloe came to talk to her after Malika-gate and Kim #wokeuplikethis. Beautiful!

Morning sunshine!

No, this is not a joke. You are truly that beautiful.

Tell me about it!

Another important matter of discussion: The champion of the season, Scott Disick.
The Lord began the season in a very tough spot. He was grieving the loss of his parents, dependent on sleeping pills and alcohol and constantly fighting with Kourtney. He didn’t enjoy spending time in the Hamptons, as it conjured up memories of his parents and their previous life together. However, Sunday night’s episode showed that Scott (as far as we can see) is a changed man. He’s opting for acting gigs over club appearances.

Give him the Emmy!

He also successfully chaperoned Kim, Khloe and Jonathan as they got drunk off Moscato.

What a good sort-of-brother-in-law.

I am honestly so proud of Scott, and if the Hamptons were good for nothing else, the summer forced Scott to get sober and be the boyfriend and father we all knew he was capable of being. So proud of you, Scott!

So, congratulations to Kourtney, Khloe, Scott, Kim, Kris, Jonathan Cheban, Malika and the Dash dolls for surviving the Hamptons. And congratulations to Ryan Seacrest for managing to make a buck off this garbage because if we’re being honest here, even though I’ve been writing these amazing recaps, I did not enjoy this series. It was bad. Like, so bad. I tolerated it because they are the Kardashians, and this is America and Kardashian tolerance is practically an amendment. But if anyone of note is reading this, please tell the right people to never let this happen again. Can we please stick to Los Angeles and New York City from now on? Thank you.

In light of the previews for the upcoming season of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” which looks so good, “Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons” gets a C- on the Kardashian scale (and I’m being generous here).

So if I could sum the series up in one gif, it’s this bad boy:

See you in the spring for “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”!

Design & Incubation – When does the Muse finally speak?

2014-08-02-musepastel.jpg

All may be familiar with the experience of working hard on a challenge, getting stuck and then, while taking a shower, exercising or preparing for bed, the answer suddenly pops up into one’s brain. The answer can be more or less complete, however, it is often quite novel.

Of course, without first putting in the long hours of focused work, no ideas will ever materialize. All new ideas are a combination of existing ideas, so, the more interconnected ideas one has accumulated the more likely one is to produce novel and useful ideas. However, an important question is, can one count on incubation as a reliable instrument for creative problem solving?

To answer this question, we studied thirty-four design students in Europe and the US. One student mentioned having a “aha” moment while in the shower, while most participants seemed to have insights while conducting ordinary activities, such as driving, walking, eating, people watching, going to bed or waking up.

Since the muse seems to be unconcerned about where her magic is acquired, we examined the time-lapse between when someone stops working hard on a problem and when the eureka-moment occurred. The following is what we found.

2014-08-02-incubationtime.jpg

If one hopes for their muse to speak to them with twenty-five per cent luck, give her six hours. If one is indifferent to their muse, one has a fifty per cent chance, so, allow her four days. If one really needs her voice, with a seventy-five percent likelihood, allow her seven days and if one wants to be absolutely certain, with a ninety-five per cent probability, two weeks is ample time. Finally, if one’s life depends on it, with a ninety-nine per cent probability, make dead sure she has at least three and a half weeks to work her magic.

Essential for one’s muse to do her work is to stop thinking vertically/analytically and start thinking laterally/associatively. For this to happen, distance is needed from the creative challenge and then, begin to do something completely different. Relaxation is also very important since stress tends to converge thoughts and what are needed here are divergent thoughts. This may be where the mundane tasks of showering, cooking, walking, etc. work their simple magic.

So, how good is the muse at producing ideas? Well, design experts may be somewhat quicker than students and laypeople at coming up with new ideas and the chances that their ideas are actually new might also be much higher. Experts also may be more likely to come up with breakthrough new ideas, especially, if these experts master multiple domains and understand how to navigate them. With this experience, one will be able to judge the newness of ideas and, therefore, avoid re-inventing the wheel over and over again. On the other hand, those who retain their abilities of wonder and quiet observation within their environment can also occasionally surprise themselves and others with breakthrough innovations.

When designing incremental ideas/innovations, old ideas are readily available from which to extrapolate. However, if one is striving for breakthrough ideas/innovation, one must allow two to three weeks incubation time, on top of the up-front, hard prep work. In other words, when taking on an assignment, do not dilly-dally, since time wasted at the outset will be stolen from the incubation time of one’s muse. Respect the muse and her bountiful gifts and she will reward one handsomely!

David Cassidy On Danny Bonaduce: ‘He Finally Grew Up’

When “The Partridge Family,” debuted in 1970, viewers fell in love with the wholesome family musical act and its cast of kids rose to instant fame. While lead vocalist David Cassidy had already appeared on television and Broadway, his younger, freckle-faced co-star Danny Bonaduce was experiencing the limelight for the first time.

“Child actors in those days, it was very difficult for them to move on,” Cassidy says in the above clip from “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” “And once they weren’t cute kids anymore, Hollywood rejected them. The television and film business has never really been kind or compassionate, in general.”

After the “The Partridge Family” ended in 1974, 15-year-old Bonaduce soon found himself using drugs and living on the streets of Hollywood. “He went through a very, very difficult period, I mean for many years,” Cassidy says.

Today, Cassidy says he and Bonaduce are still friends. “Danny and I have seen one another, we saw each other a lot until last year when he moved to Seattle with his wife,” he shares. “His wife is a beautiful person — just straightened his butt out big time. He’s now, ‘Yes, dear.’ He finally grew up and we’ve been friends. I love him. He’s a really good human being. He’s extremely talented.”

“Oprah: Where Are They Now?” airs Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on OWN. Programming note: In 2014, “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” airs on a new day and time. Catch up with past “Oprah Show” guests, newsmakers and celebrities on Fridays at 9 p.m. ET, beginning Jan. 3.
