Muscle Beach Finds a Home in Fashion

LOS ANGELES — With so many brands vying for attention in the activewear space with their moisture wicking and four-way stretch, Yeah, I Work Out bypassed the noise by choosing to root its collections in the bodybuilding community — with some interesting results.
The fairly new line has found success among both the core of those who actually like to pump iron and the fashion set, with the help of retail partners Dover Street Market and Mr Porter.
Y,IWO on Friday will release its collaboration with industry veteran Ric Drasin, creator of the Gold’s Gym logo. The capsule launches at Dover Street Market’s Los Angeles store, where there will also be a Y,IWO installation inspired by the Muscle Beach Gym in Venice, Calif. Distribution will later expand to additional Dover Street Markets, with the line also sold through Y,IWO’s web shop.
The pieces draw from the archives of Drasin’s Eighties line Big Boy Clothing, using three designs: “Lifestyles of the Ripped and Aimless,” “Gym Bums of California” and “Club Sweat.” The designs will be featured on shorts, T-shirts, hoodies, muscle pants and sweatpants.
Y,IWO’s Dover Street Market Los Angeles installation is its second with the retailer. The brand, when it launched last July, debuted with an

British Label Stefan Cooke Finds Its Voice, and Flies Solo, at London Fashion Week Men’s

LONDON — Stefan Cooke and Jake Burt, cofounders of the label Stefan Cooke and finalists for the LVMH Prize, are about to stage their first solo runway show on June 9 during London Men’s Fashion Week, and they’re feeling the heat. “It feels surreal to be doing it by ourselves. It also feels intimidating,” said Cooke, who has witnessed a shower of accolades over the past two years.
The brand has won the H&M Design Award and the L’Oréal Professional Creative Award, but Cooke and Burt will now have to wait until September to see if they’ve scooped the LVMH Prize.
Having shown under the Fashion East umbrella, the duo have moved on from conceptual to more commercially focused designs. The label is stocked at Machine-A, Dover Street Market and Matchesfashion.com.
Their lines for spring/summer 2020 have a more relaxed silhouette than in past seasons, where trousers and shirts were tight and cropped. They will also be introducing a new bag concept, a category that’s been performing well for the company.
As they build the brand, they’ve been asking themselves some difficult questions, such as: “How do you take all of the things that are Stefan Cooke, like textile manipulations, and turn them into

QVC and HSN are seeking the next big thing in fashion and beauty.
The multichannel retailers, both part of the Qurate Retail Group, will stage “The Big Find” contest to discover “the next big brands” in beauty, fashion, accessories and jewelry. From June 13 to July 12, entrepreneurs can submit a video entry presenting their products and telling the story behind their brand.
“The Big Find is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for entrepreneurs to share their stories with an audience of millions across our QVC and HSN platforms,” said Mary Campbell, chief merchandising officer, Qurate Retail Group, and chief commerce officer, QVC U.S. “We’re looking for entrepreneurs who are passionate about their products, have great stories to tell, and are engaging storytellers. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to bring our customers more discoveries while increasing our product differentiation.”
QVC and HSN have launched several successful entrepreneur-driven brands like IT Cosmetics, Philosophy, BareMinerals, Spanx and Diane Gilman. QVC and HSN sell products via home shopping and web sites.
Merchandisers from QVC and HSN will review all applications and invite selected brands to a round of in-person pitch panels in August in West Chester, Pa., and St. Petersburg, Fla., where QVC and HSN are

The North Face Finds Its Inner Fashion

Tim Bantle, global general manager of The North Face, described the brand’s transformation from a collection of technical clothing and gear for serious explorers to a label that’s in-demand in the fashion world and collaborating with Supreme, Junya Watanabe and Sacai.
Bantle began by showing The North Face rock, which appears on all of its products, “at the end of Yosemite Valley, there’s this beautiful, monolithic rock,” he said. “It captures our historical essence.”
Bantle is a climber who spent 12 years at Patagonia, and prior to that, worked in guiding and retail. Showing a photo of a frozen tundra, he said, “This is where the most elite climbers in the world go — to the middle of Antarctica to do new climbs.”
Likening The North Face to NASA, but for earthbound exploration, Bantle said, “We enable people to go there and do that. It’s given rise to our most important and iconic products. Those products are part of an Expedition System launched in the Nineties.…We developed these products basically to climb Mount Everest.

Destination XL Finds New CEO

The nearly yearlong search for a new leader has come to an end for Destination XL Group.
On Wednesday, the country’s largest big and tall men’s retailer named Harvey S. Kanter president and chief executive officer. He joined the Canton, Mass.-based company on Tuesday and will succeed David Levin, who had been acting ceo since officially retiring from the role at the end of last year. Levin will continue to serve as an adviser to Kanter until April 1. Kanter will also join DXLG’s board of directors.
Kanter has an extensive background in retail but not in men’s big and tall. Most recently he was president, ceo and chairman of the board of Blue Nile Inc., the online retailer of high-quality diamonds and fine jewelry, which was purchased and taken private by Bain Capital in early 2017.
Before that, he was president and ceo of Moosejaw Mountaineering and Backcountry Travel Inc., a multichannel retailer of outdoor apparel and gear that was acquired by Walmart. He has also held executive positions at Michael’s Stores Inc. and Eddie Bauer Inc.
In addition to continuing to serve on the board at Blue Nile, Kanter also sits on the board of Potbelly Corp., an international sandwich concept. He is

Something Blue! Meghan Markle Finds Stylish and Sentimental Ways to Add Color to Her Reception Look

Meghan Markle may have opted for monochrome and traditional white palette during her wedding ceremony, but the new royal embraced another wedding tradition by adding touches of blue to her second look for her wedding reception.

The Duchess of Sussex, 36, stepped out with Prince Harry for the evening party in a sexy open-back Stella McCartney evening dress featuring a high halter neck.

Her first something blue was sneakily and stylishly incorporated into her second look courtesy of the soles of her custom white satin Aquazurra shoes which were dyed baby blue.

Meghan also honored her mother-in-law, the late Princess Diana by wearing her emerald cut aquamarine ring on her right hand, PEOPLE confirms.

Diana famously wore the emerald cut Aquamarine stunner to an auction of her own clothes at Christie’s in 1997. The jewel is part of a set — the other piece is an aquamarine bracelet, where it’s connected by five strands of pearls. She wore both to a gala dinner in Australia in 1996.

Eva Hartling, the vice president of Maison Birks — Meghan’s favorite brand — tells PEOPLE she expected the bride to wear something blue during her wedding ceremony but thought the sweet touch was perfect.

“I thought she could have gone with something blue with a piece of jewelry for example in her first look, but we saw it in her second look with her ring belonging to Diana,” says Hartling. “I think that was symbolic.”

Meghan also changed up her hairstyle — and hair stylist — turning to George Northwood to create her effortless updo, after go-to Hollywood stylist Serge Normant created her bridal hair moment for the ceremony.

It’s the event of the year! Be sure to keep up with all of PEOPLE’s royal wedding coverage and don’t forget to check out everything you need to know about Meghan Markle’s perfect style.

The former actress once said that Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s bridal look was “everything goals” and she appears to have taken notes from the late star with her own elegant and effortless bridal style.

Meghan and Harry had a fairytale wedding in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, where she wore a gorgeous custom Givenchy design by the label’s British Artistic Director, Clare Waight Keller, that was fit for an elegant princess.

The service was attended by close family and friends, including Queen ElizabethPrince PhilipPrince CharlesCamilla, Duchess of CornwallPrince William and Kate Middleton. Charles had a special role in the service, escorting Meghan down the aisle after it was confirmed that her father, Thomas Markle, couldn’t attend the wedding.

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds will climb into the Ascot Landau carriage from the Royal Mews to take them on their first horse-drawn journey through the streets of Windsor.

The pair began dating in July 2016 after meeting on a blind date and were first revealed as a couple in October 2016. During their high-speed, long-distance courtship, Harry and Meghan spent time together at each other’s respective homes in London and Toronto, where Markle filmed Suits. The seventh season of the USA legal drama was Meghan’s last.

For his first collection, which was released in March, Tesfaye selected items from H&M’s men’s collection. But for the new line he’s worked with the design team to create new pieces.
“Once again I’ve selected my favorite pieces from H&M’s collection, and because we’re moving into fall I’ve put the focus on sweats and hoodies. I was so happy with the first collection that I wanted to put my stamp on the pieces even more,” said Tesfaye. “We’ve been much more playful with the logos and graphics on many of the pieces, and I love the sense of identity that runs through the collection.”
The 18-piece line includes sweatshirts, jackets, hoodies, bomber jackets, varsity jackets and parkas covered in graphics, logos and messaging that’s related to the artist. The line is available now online and within stores.

Martha Stewart Finds Snoop Dogg ‘Very Attractive’—But Insists She Doesn’t Smoke Marijuana with Him

They’re two of the most unlikely pairs on television — but things between Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg are strictly professional.

The Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party co-hosts earned themselves an Emmy nomination for the undeniable chemistry they have on the their VH1 reality show, leading many to wonder whether their odd couple’s working relationship would translate into a hot romance.

Stewart, 75, was asked that very thing during a visit to Fox-5’s Good Day New York on Wednesday. And she was quick to stress that Snoop is “out of the picture” as a “boyfriend.”

“Snoop is younger than my daughter,” she said of the 45-year-old rapper, adding that she wouldn’t even “fool around once” with him. “We have to have to have a professional relationship, don’t we Snoop?”

RELATED: Watch Snoop Dogg’s Hilarious Reaction to Seeing How Hot Dogs Are Made

That doesn’t mean Stewart doesn’t appreciate Snoop — but just as his friend. “He is very attractive, I must say, he really is an attractive human being,” she said. “Everybody likes him. It’s so nice that he’s popular, and the guests really enjoy him and respond to him nicely. And he has a great sense of humor. He’s fast!”

“Snoop is a lot of fun to work with,” she added.

So if they’re such friends, does that mean that Stewart’s smoked marijuana with Snoop? Not so much. “The moment I signed the contract, I vowed — and I don’t smoke anyway, it hurts my throat — I vowed never, ever to step into the trailer, that trailer that’s on the lot,’” she said. “And I just sort of like, I can take a whiff in the air.”

“My only addiction is my iPad,” she joked later.

Snoop confirmed the sentiment, telling PEOPLE earlier this year, “I’ve smoked around her, but she don’t partake.”

WATCH: Poach a Perfect Egg Every Time With a Foolproof Microwave Hack

She may not have learned to smoke weed, but Stewart has learned a lot working with Snoop.

“He’s always saying, ‘Teach me to learn, Martha.’ So I’m teaching him my way, and he’s teaching me the world of rap, the world of black entertainment,” Stewart said. “On some of the programs, I’m the only white person there. And the rappers have a vocabulary that’s kind of hard to understand if you don’t really listen. So I’m having the greatest time. Really, it’s a merge of cultures. ”

Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party returns for a second season — with guests like P. Diddy, Queen Latifah, RuPaul, Wanda Sykes, and Kate Upton — on Oct. 16 at 10 p.m. ET on VH1.

Yvonne Strahovski Finds The Victim In The Villain On ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

It’s been months since “The Handmaid’s Tale” wrapped filming, and Yvonne Strahovski still can’t get Serena Joy out of her head.

As the resident baddie in Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s celebrated novel, the Australian actress is discovering new depths to a character whose inner life was largely absent from the text.

For Strahovksi, her first introduction to the world of “The Handmaid’s Tale” was the pilot script ― she went back and read the book later ― and what inspired her wasn’t the character’s cruelty, but her pain. Capturing the humanity of a woman complicit in the subjugation of her gender under an oppressive regime was an opportunity to make the role her own.

Until the sixth episode “A Woman’s Place,” released on Wednesday, the series utilized flashbacks as emotionally-driven viewpoints to juxtapose what life was like for Offred (Elisabeth Moss) before she was forced to bear children for the ruling class to which Serena belongs.

This week, Strahovski delivered some of the finest work of her career, as the series veered away from the book and back to a time where Serena more than lived up to her surname, something that has been stamped out in the totalitarian state she helped create.

HuffPost recently caught up with the actress.

The series paints Serena as a more complex character as compared to the book. In this version, we understand her as tragic figure. Was that something that attracted you to the role?

It was definitely something that was important to me after reading the book and having the series flesh out Serena by humanizing her a little more. Yes, she’s the villain. Yes, she’s the evil character, but she also has feelings. It was important for me to try to attempt to have audiences connect with her in some way, shape or form emotionally because she is so unrelatable in every other way. I was going to say in a lot of ways, but I’m gonna say she’s unrelatable because she’s evil.

There’s a real sense of sadness with Serena.

On paper she is so evil, but where does she draw the line? I feel like Serena is so complicated because she is one of those authority figures who created this society, but now she has to live in it. She’s realizing it’s not so great for her either. On some level, she’s also dealing with a lot oppression as a female because she’s been stripped of her rights, to a degree. How do you deal with the complexities of trying to negotiate the fact that you did this to yourself, but also you’re living it and it doesn’t feel so good anymore?

This week’s episode was particularly flashback-heavy and shifted the POV to Serena. What was it like to explore her life before Gilead?

It felt really unnatural and weird. It really did. It felt like a big giant leap, but I think it’s an important one, because it’s heartbreaking. We’re following the story of Offred and Ofglen and all these amazing characters who are suffering in some way, shape or form, but I think this is a story about how everyone is suffering.

Having those flashbacks with her finding some sort of happiness and meaning and place for herself in the world is important to show, even though I personally struggle to not judge her and totally disagree with what she’s doing as a passive bystander when women are totally losing their rights.

The flashback scene where Serena isn’t allowed to speak in a meeting about the creation of this new society because she is a woman stood out to me.

That scene was hugely important to me because it bridged that gap between Serena Joy pre-Gilead, as we see in those flashbacks, and then Serena Joy in Gilead. We spend so much time focusing on the current Gilead, so suddenly in Episode 6, the flashbacks were really hard to imagine after setting up this pent-up, very uptight character. The biggest thing on my mind was at what one point did Serena Joy exit the conversation about how Gilead was going to be set up.

I think that’s the beginning of the demise of her former self and the demise of her and the commander’s relationship. That’s where her rights started getting taken away and she no longer has a voice. It’s this weird line she walks of having a pure intention to begin with of saving the world and creating more babies in a religious-based way. Somewhere along the line, it got obviously really messed up.

Serena and the Commander (Joseph Fiennes) actually share a consensual and loving sex scene in the flashbacks. What was it like to film a sex scene that wasn’t so dark?

It kind of felt like a normal day of a different show that wasn’t “The Handmaids Tale.” It wasn’t rigid. The walls are very thick and high in Gilead and as each character, we live bound by those parameters, so to have those parameters let go and just shoot a scene that seems pure, loving, passionate and intimate just kind of seemed like a normal day at work instead of working on material that’s really confronting very potent issues and themes.

How did it differ from the ceremony scenes you share with Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes? What goes through your mind when you’re all in bed together?

In the actual moment, it’s pure rage for Serena. She’s lost a lot also. She’s lost her ability to do her work as an author or a spokeswoman. She’s lost her right to connect to her husband sexually. She’s got a lot of emptiness inside her, so she holds onto the one thing that will make her life better there, and that’s having a baby. Serena also has no way out. It’s not like she can leave her house, the country or the Commander. In a way, it’s her own story of survival, but she just happens to be doing really shitty things while she’s surviving.

I’ve always had this image of her as a boiling pot of water on a stove with the lid tightly on. Every so often, the boiling water inside gets [to be] too much and it has to release and the lid lifts and she releases her rage. There’s just no release in Gilead, so when she can abuse her power and release some of that pent-up rage, she does.

Did you stay in character during the ceremony scenes? How did you break the tension?

No, I think I would go insane if I stayed in that mode the whole time. We have to let go. Although, I do have to say mentally it was hard to let go of Serena because she is so complex and has all these dualities that feels like a puzzle sometimes. She did stay with me in my brain for the most part of shooting the show.

We’re not, like, freaky-deaky toward each other on set. It’s a very normal cast and crew and we all like to come to set because it’s just a workday for us. After we get past “How was your weekend?” and “How was your night last night?” we switch gears and get into this kind of stuff.

What do you make of Serena’s smoking habit? It seems to be one the few obvious cracks in her “perfect wife” facade.

I sort of saw it as a calming thing and also something to do. There’s just not a whole lot that she has to do in this society. She’s the master of the house and she’s supposed to take care of all things domestic. But I just feel like there would be that element of boredom if you’re in that situation. What do you do? She paints, knits and she smokes because there are no other things to do our outlets. The smoking thing did really seem to me like a time-passing mechanism or a calming mechanism when things get too much for Serena when she’s about to blow.

Hulu has renewed “The Handmaid’s Tale” for a second season. What are your thoughts on the series moving away from the text and into uncharted territory?

I’m excited by the prospect. I feel like each of these characters have so much to offer and there’s a lot to explore. I love that we’ve been given this opportunity to spend these 10 episode reflecting what Maragaret Atwood’s book originally told us, but now we have these established characters, so we can take them places. It feels like there are a lot of places to go because we are in such a rigid society, so when everything is so pent up and rigid there a lot of rules to be broken. For someone like Serena, it would be really interesting to see her belief system challenged against her own will. I would love to see her own walls that she built herself crumble around her.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

New episodes of the “The Handmaid’s Tale” are available every Wednesday on Hulu.

Artists’ Brushstrokes Can Reveal Early Signs Of Brain Disorders, Study Finds

Abstract expressionist painter Willem de Kooning was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in his 80s. However, a new study by Alex Forsythe at the University of Liverpool claims there were signs of de Kooning’s cognitive decline apparent in his paintings, long before his condition was medically detected.

Forsythe set out to determine whether changes in artists’ brushstrokes over long periods of time could help detect signs of dementia or other neurodegenerative disorders. She analyzed 2,092 paintings, with work by de Kooning, as well as Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, Norval Morrisseau and James Brooks.

Forsythe examined the works using a technique called fractal analysis, highly contested among physicists, to determine whether there was a relationship between the fractal complexity in a painting and the brain activity of its artist.

Fractals are complex, self-repeating, geometric patterns ― like the spirals that appear in Romanesco broccoli, or the patterns formed by certain mountain ranges. If you examine a painting closely enough, some researchers contend, artists’ brushstrokes break down into such geometrical shapes, so unique to each artist’s hand they operate almost like fingerprints. In 1999, physicist Richard Taylor notably used fractal analysis to differentiate authentic Jackson Pollock paintings from forgeries by identifying the artist’s singular fractal fingerprint.

In her study, Forsythe traced the complexity of fractal patterns revealed in each artist’s work to gauge whether the fractal density increased or decreased over time. For Monet, Picasso and Chagall ― none of whom suffered from neurodegenerative disorders ― the fractal complexity of their works increased over time. In the works of Dalí and Morrisseau ― who were both believed to have had Parkinson’s ― Forsythe found that the fractal complexity first increased, then declined.

Finally, for de Kooning and Brooks ― the subjects diagnosed with Alzheimer’s ― Forsythe discovered that fractal complexity plummeted as they grew older, beginning around age 40. The study revealed signs of shifting brain function in de Kooning’s paintings over 40 years before he was diagnosed by doctors.

The information seems to be like a footprint that artists leave in their art,” Forsythe explained to The Guardian. “They paint within a normal range, but when something is happening the brain, it starts to change quite radically.”

There are surely aspects of Forsythe’s study that complicate her astounding results. First, the study’s small sample size of only seven artists raises concerns about the larger accuracy of its findings. And of course, there are still scientists like Hamilton College’s Kate Brown, who believe fractal analysis to be “utter nonsense.”

Nevertheless, there is something profoundly beautiful about the possibility of brushstrokes depicting the inner workings of the brain in complex yet perceptible ways. Each painting, then, not only depicts its subject matter but also the interior world of its maker, in ways he or she might not even be aware of.

Military Wife Finds A Creative Way To Include Husband In Christmas Card

Husband and father of four Brandon Sistrunk won’t be home for the holidays this year, but that didn’t stop his wife Ashley from making sure they posed for their family Christmas card together.

Brandon is a staff sergeant in the Air Force currently deployed overseas in Iraq. Ashley and their four kids live thousands of miles away in Colorado Springs, Colorado, so she needed to get creative to make the group shot a reality.

Ashley’s mother took a photo of her and the kids, and a military friend of Brandon’s took a picture of him. Ashley then stitched the two images together in Photoshop and shared it with friends on social media. It was picked up by local news station KKTV 11 on Saturday and has since gone viral.

“Having a piece of your heart across the world, fighting for your country. It’s just a whole other level of emotions,” she said

Ashley also told KKTV that life as a military wife has been tough on her and the kids. Brandon was deployed during three of the children’s births and was unable to make it home.

“We tell the kids, ‘Yes, other kids have their daddy home right now,’” she said. “But their daddy is out being a superhero, keeping our country safe and that’s important ― that’s an important job.”

On Instagram, Ashley said that the holidays are a particularly difficult time for the family.

“I hate wanting to wish away a holiday,” she wrote. “Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, but with Brandon gone and the kids begging to have him home on Christmas, it just won’t be the same. I know we are supposed to ‘live for today!’, but I wish I could wake up tomorrow and have it be late January!”

Fortunately, Brandon is set to return home to his family early next year.

“[The kids] adore him,” Ashley told FOX21. “He will do anything for them. So I miss him actually being able to come home at the end of the day and they yell ‘Daddy!’”

François Pinault Finds Venue for Art Collection in Paris

PARIS MATCH: François Pinault is to showcase part of his vast art collection at the Bourse de Commerce de Paris.
The French business titan revealed the project at a joint press conference on Wednesday with Paris mayor Anne Hidago and François-Henri Pinault, president of the family holding company Artémis and chairman and chief executive officer of Kering.
The 150,000-square-foot building is in the center of Paris near the newly refurbished Forum des Halles shopping center, and in a neighborhood that is being transformed.
The 18th-century building boasts a cupola that is listed as a historical monument. Paul Smith and Lanvin have used it for shows during Men’s Fashion Week here.
Its owner, Paris’ Chamber of Commerce is to yield the site to the city. The handover is expected later this year following a vote of the council of Paris in July and the Pinault family, under the Artémis umbrella, is to be the holder of a 50-year lease. Works are to start in early 2017 and the museum’s opening is slated for end of 2018.
According to sources, the venue could have a restaurant and a terrace giving on a new garden space that’s also slated to be complete in 2018.
Pinault entrusted the project to Japanese architect Tadao Ando,

Listening To Heavy Metal May Actually Make You Calmer, Study Finds

Apparently, Ozzy Osbourne may hold the key to happiness.

A recent study has found that “extreme” music genres — including heavy metal, emo, punk and screamo — may actually help calm angry listeners. Researchers say the results contradict the notion such music is linked to aggression and delinquency.

The study, published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience in May, was conducted at Australia’s University of Queensland. Researchers asked 39 extreme-music lovers to describe a frustrating situation involving relationships, finances or work. To measure participants’ emotions, researchers monitored their heart rates and asked them how they felt throughout the anger-inducing process. Some participants then sat in silence for 10 minutes, while others spent 10 minutes listening to the extreme song of their choice.

Instead of increasing listeners’ anger, the extreme music calmed them, producing a result similar to sitting in silence.

“We found the music regulated sadness and enhanced positive emotions,” Leah Sharman, a student at the university’s School of Psychology and co-author of the study, stated in a release. “The music helped them explore the full gamut of emotion they felt, but also left them feeling more active and inspired.”

Sharman and co-researcher Genevieve Dingle, a lecturer in health and behavioral sciences at the University of Queensland, sought to challenge the theory that extreme music causes anger, a long-standing argument for foes of the genre. The pair also sought to test the notion that listeners can find happiness in harsh-sounding screamo or emotion-laden emo music.

In a September 2013 article for The Atlantic, Leah Sottile wrote about a separate study on music and emotions conducted at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The research showed “people who chose to be pissed off actually showed a greater sense of well-being overall than the people who avoided feelings of unpleasantness,” Sottile wrote.

The University of Queensland study echoes these findings, with participants reporting “they used music to enhance their happiness, immerse themselves in feelings of love and enhance their well-being.”

However, the study does note that the soothing effects of extreme music may be unique to fans of the genre. All of the participants were self-identified metal connoisseurs who weren’t undergoing any actual symptoms of distress. The researchers say they’re still unsure of the effects of extreme music over longer periods of time, and they didn’t measure factors like personality and the “tendency to ruminate.”

But the choice to listen to angry music to match an angry mood may be an active way to understand and regulate negative emotions.

So play on, metalheads.

Jon Stewart Finds The Most Ridiculous Blizzard Coverage

Snowpocalypse 2015 was such a big nothing in some areas, especially in New York City, that one weather forecaster even apologized.

So what’s a network hyping a storm supposed to do? On Tuesday night’s “Daily Show,” Jon Stewart said they had some options.

“Acknowledge that conditions had changed. Ease up on the breathless hype. Focus your attention on New England, where it was actually really snowing,” Stewart suggested. “Or desperately cling to the original narrative like dingleberries on a sheep’s ass.”

Stewart played clip after clip of reporters overreacting to small amounts of snow. However, he aimed his sharpest icicles at CNN, which sent Don Lemon out in a “Blizzardmobile.”

“Blizzardmobile? Settle down, Batman, it’s a Ford Explorer,” Stewart said. Then, referring to some of the highly controversial statements Lemon has made on the air recently, Stewart showed an image of the CNN reporter working from a Dairy Queen truck.

“And by the way, with the way you’ve been reporting lately, you’re lucky you’re not in an actual ‘Blizzardmobile,’” Stewart said.

But the CNN “Blizzardmobile” gave Stewart an idea: Maybe the “Daily Show” can take it to the next level.

Stewart sent correspondent Jordan Klapper out in a car, a bicycle and a sled to to interview people about everything from Yemen to the Greek election.

Check it out in the clip above.

Daily ReHash’s iPhone 6 Test Finds Major Weakness

All eyes have been on how much pressure Apple’s products can handle in the wake of “Bendgate,” which erupted with reports that the new iPhone 6 Plus can be bent by normal usage forces.

Apple even opened up its testing facilities to CNBC to assure that it continues to demand product excellence in the Tim Cook era.

But while everyone is focused on whether their new, really expensive, iPhone flexes, there is another potential product weakness that Daily ReHash’s testing found.

The iPhone 6 passed most of Daily ReHash’s inane tests — including a paternity test, a naturalization test, personality test — it fell short on one that any current or potential owner is going to want to know about.

Watch the video above, and pity the poor tester.

Emerson College’s Fusion of Bright Colorful Prints and Unique Vintage Finds

Emerson College is known for its creative students and innovative alumni. From motivated journalists to aspiring film directors and everything in between, Emerson stands out from the rest by encouraging us to think outside of the box and distinguish ourselves by pushing the boundaries. As Emerson’s motto states, “Bringing innovation to communication and the arts,” students are always on the hunt for the next big thing. You can feel an air of competition as soon as you walk into a class, which makes anyone even more excited to be the best one can be.

Earlier this year, the same happened to me. I transferred to Emerson on my sophomore year. While I was nervous and anxious to adapt to a new school, I knew I had made the right decision. The first few months I did not have many friends in class. However, I liked them all. You see, there is a thing about first impressions that really amazes me. Even though my classmates and I did not talk a lot during or after class, their style and confidence taught me more about themselves than anything that we could have talk before.

What seduced me about studying at Emerson was the ability of the students to be unique and follow their own path without breaking any rules. In fact, there are no rules to break. You make your own. I felt that being creative and innovative was not enough to stand out. You want to exude the passion and imagination to the outside so people notice that you have a special talent. Moreover, because I love fashion and I have a blog called Sanctuary of Freedom, students are Emerson College are a daily outfit inspiration for me. One of my favorite things about Emerson is the clash of colors and prints that happen on the halls. From polka-dots to psychedelic prints and vintage rock band logos, you can spot every print mash-up and color-block trend on campus.

I think Emerson’s motto applies both to the academics and the style of the students. Having personal style and a unique look makes you communicate an innovative message of constant change. Jorge Drexler, famous Uruguayan musician sings, “Nada se pierde, todo se transforma,” which means, “Nothing is lost, everything is transformed.” As for style, you do not lose it. It evolves with you. That is what I feel about the fashion consciousness of an Emerson student.

This Fashionista embodies the risk-taking environment one feels at Emerson. You can spot the mix of prints like stripes, plaid and a funky circular print from the pants. Even though Emerson students are competitive in the academic field, when it comes to fashion they are very easy-going. Converse over anything, rolled-up pants and a loose knotted T-shirt. It is effortlessly chic. She chose a color pattern with neutrals like black and white and a strong dark green. When I asked her what was her favorite piece, she told me it was the vest because it was vintage and she found it in a market in Paris. I smiled and agreed with her. I think many of Emerson’s students are vintage junkies, and I love it. Walking on the streets near Emerson, one can spot Fashionistas with oversized denim jackets, or a vest in this case and soft washed-out vintage T-shirts paired with an on-trend item. That is what an Emerson student is all about: innovation, transformation and evolution. For that reason, I’m proud to say that Emerson College is a fashion-forward society.

‘Sherlock’ Review: ‘The Empty Hearse’ Finds An Emotional Reunion For Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman In Long-Awaited Return

The most highly-awaited show of the year returned, and within one sharp, mind-boggling minute in the company of Sherlock and Co, it was all explained away… apparently.

We had a far-fetched (but possible!) combination of bungee rope, a Sherlock mask over a Moriarty body, a big grateful kiss for enamoured lab assistant Molly… oh, and Derren Brown???? Hang on a minute!

Ah, that’ll be one big nod to the conspiracy theorists everywhere, then. No one listens to their fans like writers Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, and plays with them a little in return. According to Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock on the roof, there are 13 possible outcomes in total. So looks like we might have to wait for the truth for a bit longer after all…

sherlock

Sherlock’s return was greeted with a welcome less warm than he would have perhaps liked

Cut to… Gatiss as weary Mycroft having to tap some numbers into his international speed-dial, brush up his Serbian, engage in some tiresome ‘field work’ to locate his errant little brother, and return him to his Baker Street fold.

And that, expectant viewers, was very much that. Two years’ worth of all our wondering, tucked into a drawer for the time being. Onward…

sherlock

Mary (Amanda Abbington) had (almost) replaced Sherlock in Doctor Watson’s affections, but proved crucial to the restoration of their bromance

Into the up-to-date world of Dr Watson (Martin Freeman), complete with fiancee Mary (Freeman’s real-life partner Amanda Abbington) and moustache, moving on with his life, much to the surprise of Mrs Hudson (Una Stubbs) – “So soon after Sherlock?” she asked guilelessly.

But this was a light appetiser for the serious business of his reunion with the much-missed Holmes who, despite his big brain, managed to misjudge such concepts as how grief can turn to resentment when it turns out to be misplaced for two sad, lonely years. Sherlock got a much warmer reception even from DI Lestrade (Rupert Graves), and that was even after Holmes got his name wrong.

sherlock

Benedict Cumberbatch was on fine form as the loner detective

Fortunately for fans, it wasn’t too long before Holmes and Watson were reconciled to combat an underground terrorism network operating on the underground network. From then on, it was all torches in dark tunnels, upturned collars and lots and lots of nifty editing as Holmes homed in on quite a bit of a bomb, and Watson continued to prove his peerless Everyman acting stripes, equal parts confusion, good intention, and deep indignation when said bomb turned out to have an off-switch. That Sherlock fella, eh? Such a wag.

Because of all of Watson’s understandable, brooding resentment for much of the 90 minutes, a lot of the real pleasure in this episode in fact came from the jollier exchanges between the Holmes brothers, with both siblings proving that absence makes the heart grow more competitive… who can deduce more accurately? Who can say more more words in one minute? Who can enunciate more c-c-r-r-i-sply? Wonderful stuff from both Cumberbatch and Gatiss.

A challenge to keep up with, a joy to watch – there’s a reason this kind of telly takes two years to make. But oh, how we’ve missed it, and oh, how it was worth the wait.

How DID he do it? Let us know your thoughts below, and what you thought of Sherlock’s big return…

Girl Finds Out About Boyfriend’s Plan To Propose, What He Does Instead Is Epic (VIDEO)

What do you do when your girlfriend finds out you’re planning to propose and the whole surprise is ruined? In most cases, you’d likely just stick to the plan and hope it still comes off as romantic and memorable as you had hoped it would be.

That is unless you’re Jordan Halland (aka HeyPayola), who uploaded the amazing video above showing a series of increasingly hilarious fake outs leading up to the actual moment where he finally proposes to his girlfriend, Summer.

There’s a bit of a build-up, but keep watching and we promise the pay off is worth it. You may also want to have some tissues handy…

No Brazilian Waxes Necessary: Survey Finds 51 Percent Don’t Groom That Hair At All

If you dread your regular visit to the waxer, you might find some solace in knowing you’re not alone: A new study has found that more women are choosing to go au naturel these days.

Commissioned by British pharmacy site UKMedix.com, the survey polled 1,870 women across the UK ages 18-30, asking them, “Do you style or groom the hair in your bikini region?” The answer: 49 percent said yes, while 51 percent said no.

Of those women who have decided to forego grooming, 45 percent said they “used to, but don’t any longer,” while 14 percent said they couldn’t afford all of those pricey waxes. That’s a pretty high attrition rate, if you ask us.

Perhaps these ladies got wind of the fact that men are also shifting their preferences toward a more natural down-there aesthetic. However, pleasing men wasn’t the women’s chief concern — the survey also found that 30 percent of women simply preferred the “natural look.” (Plus, 62 percent of respondents reported that their partners had the same preference!)

This should come as good news to all of the women anxiously popping aspirins and sipping glasses of wine before their monthly appointments (i.e. us). Also, when you skip waxing, you can finally put all of those awkward bikini line questions to rest (seriously, can you get a wax during your period?). But less grooming certainly does come with its own series of issues — just ask Gwyneth Paltrow.

Moral of the story? If you’re over waxing, you have options — and you’re certainly not alone.

At least waxing isn’t as awkward as these beauty procedures:
