Tom Brady Freaking Out About a Bear Is the Funniest Thing You’ll See Today

It wasn’t a Chicago Bear, but Tom Brady was still pretty excited to see a big fuzzy dude over the Fourth of July.

In a video posted to his Instagram story and shared by Huffington Post, the 40-year-old football star had an extra-close encounter with a brown bear while hanging in Montana.

“There’s a BEAR,” he whispers enthusiastically before panning over to the animal, before bringing the camera back to himself for another little freak out — which we don’t blame him for.

These Are The Year’s Funniest Animal Photos

The animal kingdom can be a pretty hilarious place if you know where to look.

That’s the point of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, which honor the best shots of animals doing some seriously funny things.

The award, which is now in its second year, shows that humor isn’t just limited to humans, said Tanzania-based photographer and contest creator Tom Sullam.

“The contest celebrates great photography of wildlife, but with the humorous element thrown in,” he told PBS.org. “We wanted to have a photo competition that was positive and upbeat but with a serious message about wildlife conservation attached to it.”

Judges picked 40 finalists after burrowing their way through more than 2,000 animal images from 75 different countries.

Angela Bohlke took the winning shot, which features a fox falling face first into the snow at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

“The picture shows a red fox hunting for his morning breakfast, a small rodent, known as a vole,” she told the Sun. “This photograph is from one of the times he unfortunately, however, hilariously missed. On the third try, he finally succeeded.”

For her efforts, Bohlke wins a one-week photography safari in Kenya.

Check out Bohlke’s winning pic and other hilarious photos below:

Meet Joe Wong, China’s Funniest Export

I have a particular fondness for comedians, and have had close personal friendships with some of the great ones over the years. Even as a teenager in the 1960s, my favorite reading material was not comic books, but rather biographies and autobiographies of comics– W.C Fields, Jack Benny, George Burns, Steve Allen, Groucho Marx, Red Skelton, Woody Allen, and many others, all of which I still have in my library. I also have maintained a collection of volumes of one-liners by Robert Orben, Joey Adams, and other comedy writers.

I want to introduce you to a comedian who I have never met, but with whom I have frequently communicated with since he first gained my attention about 5 years ago. Joe Wong is Chinese, and came from Beijing to the U.S. as a student in 1994. He ultimately obtained a PhD in Molecular Biology from Rice University in Houston– and he looks exactly like a guy who holds such a degree. In spite of this impressive accomplishment, he went into stand-up comedy, a decision I am sure thrilled his Chinese parents.

2015-08-29-1440823092-5375505-JoeWong.jpg

How he transformed himself from an egghead to a comic is remarkable. He went to a comedy club in Houston, where he understood nothing and loved everything about it. He joined Toastmasters International to help him with his English and public speaking. Later he moved to Boston to accept a job with a pharmaceutical firm and at night took a comedy class at a local high school. He read dictionaries, and honed his English and comedy. Eventually he qualified for the Boston Comedy Festival, and ultimately was spotted by David Letterman’s bookers.

Joe became a favorite of David Letterman and Ellen Degeneres, having made multiple appearances on both of their shows. He received a standing ovation at the White House Radio/Television Correspondence’s Dinner in 2010– a notoriously tough room.

He has a unique style, pace, delivery, look, and material. But, most importantly, he has something going for him that most comics wish they had– a stance. Like Jack Benny or Phyllis Diller, his comedic characteristics make him stand out from the crowd. He’s like a deer in the headlights, a bit surprised he’s in the spotlight, slightly reserved with a touch of socially awkwardness.

One of my favorite moments was after he finished his first national television appearance on The Late Show in 2009, Letterman approached him to shake his hand. Joe seemed unsure as to where to go or what was expected of him. It was a Wally Cox, Don Knotts, or Woody Allen moment, and the audience loved him for it.

One night I took a DVD of some of Joe’s television work to show my pal Phyllis Diller. We sat in her den watching, but Phyllis was both hard of hearing and had difficulty understanding foreign accents. After 5 minutes, Phyllis said to me “Is he speaking Chinese? I don’t understand a word he has said– but he is FUNNY!” Although she couldn’t figure out what he was saying, she did comprehend that his very essence was comical– a nerdy and nervous Chinese guy doing American style stand-up.

Ironically, Joe was discovered in and returned to China because of his U.S. television appearances. Over 50 million people in China have watched him on various internet sites, both in English and with Chinese subtitles. He was offered a gig hosting a comedy/investigative reporting show on a Chinese TV network CCTV2, and returned there to do so– with 5 to 7 million viewers per episode. In the meantime he is also performing American style standup comedy in Chinese venues and has garnered international attention, including being featured on the CBS Evening News and in the New York Times. He can perform 2 hour standup comedy shows in either English or Mandarin Chinese!

My friend, Emmy award-winning comedic actor Fred Willard, shares my passion for books on comedy and comedians, and we often exchange them with each other. He recently gave me Fred Allen’s 1954 book “Treadmill to Oblivion.” Fred Allen concludes his publication with this bittersweet observation, “When a radio comedian’s program is finally finished it slinks down Memory Lane into the limbo of yesterday’s happy hours. All the comedian has to show for his years of work and aggravation is the echo of forgotten laughter.”

I have a hunch Joe Wong’s best laughs are yet to come. It wouldn’t surprise me if he returns to the U.S. with his own sitcom that would be watched worldwide. Stay tuned.

#BackStory: Funniest Parents on Twitter Tell More!

Funny tweets: So short, so perfect. Funny tweets about parenting? Even better!

We know HuffPost Parents is THE place to find the funniest parenting tweets each week. Some of those gems leave us shouting Yes! Exactly! And some leave us asking the question that all parents ask, What the hell?

What sparks the tweets that make us laugh out loud? We just had to find out. So, we asked 10 of the contributors to The Bigger Book of Parenting Tweets to share the back story to one of their favorite tweets. As expected, they did not disappoint.

@MaryWiddicks: My 1-year-old has a new hobby: Naked climbing. He proudly strips off his clothes and diaper, then scales whatever piece of furniture strikes his fancy. The other morning I found him precariously balanced with one foot on a chair and one on the bookshelf. We made eye contact from across the room: Me with a look of horror and forbidding, and him with a mischievous grin. Before I could pluck him from his perch, he grabbed hold of the bookshelf and peed full-force, like one of those cherub statues in a fountain.

@CrazyExhaustion: I dragged my sorry self out of bed and stumbled into the kitchen, a solid three hours of sleep in the books (thank you, children). Fruit and cereal thrown together for the kids’ breakfast, and I set out to find some toothpicks I could use to prop my eyes open. In the midst of my quest to stay awake and be the responsible adult, dammit, I swiped my hand across the counter to dispose of some dried fruit that had fallen overboard during my gourmet breakfast preparations. Without thinking — or looking — I popped them into my mouth and went about my business. As they suddenly crunched under my teeth, I realized that I couldn’t recall any fruit in our house that should be crunchy…

@tchrquotes: My 6yo went to a birthday party and just kept eating. Cake, candy, fruit, pizza and punch. I was a little concerned, but he (unlike his older brother) had never really had a problem with overeating to the point of making himself sick. I decided to back off and let him enjoy himself. As bedtime approached, things were looking good. It wasn’t until about 3 a.m. that I realized I’d made a horrible mistake.

@LindaInDisguise: If you only saw the front seat of my car, you’d probably assume I was a decent human being. The minute you look behind — NO! DON’T LOOK! — You saw it, didn’t you? The back seat is a pigsty. I tackle it every now and then but not often enough. Jackets and water bottles and toys and… petrified fast food? Oh, grosssssss. Damn kids.

@PJTLynch: I was sitting on the couch, zoning out a bit on my phone, while our 9-month-old baby played on the floor. As babies will do, he was going from toy to toy, picking each one up and at some point putting his mouth on it. I wasn’t paying close attention, but when you have a baby you’re always at a certain state of alert, so I perked up when out of the corner of my eye I saw him pick up some gnarled black thing off the floor. From where I was it looked like it could have been an old French fry or a chewed-up pen cap. Whatever it was, he picked it up and gave it a look of utter disgust, as if to say, “I can’t believe this thing even exists.” Then, with what I swear was an “Oh well,” shrug, he popped it in his mouth.

—————————–

@TheBeardedIris: I’m currently shopping for a sandblaster to remove the fossilized boy urine from the wainscoting of my powder room. Is he impersonating a fire hose in there? What. The. Hell?

—————————–

@FatherWithTwins: I know the sound is coming. No matter how many controls and countermeasures I put into place, its coming. No matter how many warnings I give my children, it’s coming. I can spend all night with them, but if I leave the room for 30 seconds to use the bathroom or start the bath–CRASH!–over goes the toy box.

At that point, I’m faced with two options: 1) Force them to clean it up, which will take about three hours, or 2) Clean it up myself. I usually choose option two and have a relaxing evening of stepping on the small pieces I missed or pulling them out of the dog’s mouth.

@TheAlexNevil: What’s surprising is that something with a relatively few parts should be this much of a problem. A should attach to B. A SHOULD #%*£!@-ING ATTACH TO B!! A rubber mallet shouldn’t be required to convince A and B they’d make a really great couple. The joy one expects to get from putting a child’s gift together is replaced by unintelligible rantings of a deranged lunatic. It’s during this time there’s a realization: either I will break this beast or it will break me.

—————————–

@qwertygirl: I volunteered to help organize an event at the school. The woman who ran the committee missed four of the first five meetings without notifying us, insisted that we use her friends and relatives as vendors, and accused the PTO president (not me) of micro-managing everyone when she finally attended a meeting and took some notes on her iPad. The committee head didn’t understand why I dropped off the committee, and sent me an email, cc’ing every other committee member, asking me to justify myself. She was shocked when I refused to reply.

@maughammom: The habit of kissing my kids’ boo-boos has backfired on me more than once. I probably should’ve stopped after the first time my son made me kiss a scrape on his stinky foot. But when my sweet daughter came at me with a distressed look on her face and her finger in the air, my mom-instincts took over and I kissed it. She looked so confused …

‘Inherent Vice’ Trailer Feels Like Paul Thomas Anderson’s Funniest Film Yet

After months of not knowing much about “Inherent Vice” beyond its cast list and what’s in Thomas Pynchon’s 2009 novel, the movie’s first trailer is here. Arriving five days before the Paul Thomas Anderson adaptation is set to make its world premiere at the New York Film Festival, the clip seems to carry the kinetic comedy of the early stages of “Boogie Nights” rather than the severe character drama of “There Will Be Blood” and “The Master,” just as last week’s New York Times profile of Anderson promised the movie would. (In that piece, Anderson compared the film to “Airplane!” and “Top Secret.”) Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon in their first collaboration since “Walk the Line” as well as Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Benicio del Toro, Martin Short, Joanna Newsom and (apparently) Pynchon himself in a rare cameo, the ’70s-set “Inherent Vice” opens Dec. 12. It could be a major awards contender.

The Funniest Someecards Of The Week

Another week, another round of iPhone mania.

The Apple gods released the magic that is iOS 8. (We can mute group messages now? Um, YES.) A lucky few got their hands on the new iPhone6 hardware, and one dude promptly dropped his. Ouch.

Some other stuff probably happened this week. We heard rumblings of NFL players being even more horrible and apparently there was some sort of vote going on in Scotland? Whatever. IPHONE.

Anyway, if you can manage to divert your eyes from your shiny new screen for one second (or who are we kidding, you’re probably reading this on your new phone right now), here are the funniest Someecards of the past week.

The Funniest Someecards Of The Week

This week was quite culty wasn’t it? (Yes, we’re fully aware that “culty” is not a word, just roll with it.)
