Victoria Beckham Downplays Possibility of Spice Girls Reunion Tour

HOLD THE SPICE: Spice Girls groupies, look away now. The British press may have breathlessly reported that a Spice Girls reunion tour was imminent after the group reunited earlier this month at the home of Geri Horner, aka Ginger Spice, for a friendly catch-up.
Beckham said it’s premature to talk about touring and performing together again. “There is nothing tangible. It was great seeing the girls. Everybody got very excited, but there is no tour, there is no recording,” she said on the sidelines of her Victoria Victoria Beckham presentation during London Fashion Week on Tuesday.
“I think, for us, it’s about protecting the legacy, and asking how we continue the girl power message. How do we continue that, and pass it on to future generations? We’re just looking at how we pass that message, as opposed to us going on tour or recording or doing a TV show. It’s not about that. It’s about us looking the legacy and protecting it. And we all feel the same about that.”
The timing couldn’t be better what with the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements in full swing, and the group certainly wouldn’t have any trouble telegraphing messages to their audience. British media outlets report on every

Prabal Gurung Designs F1 Grid Girls Uniforms for Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Weekend

REV YOUR ENGINES: Prabal Gurung has designed the new F1 Grid Girls uniforms for the 2017 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, that gets under way today.
The new uniform, which will be worn by Etihad Airways’ cabin crew during the three-day event, will also be seen on TV by hundreds of millions of motorsport fans worldwide.
“Etihad’s foray into fashion is truly an innovative break from tradition. Similarly, we wanted to challenge the conceived notion of how Grid Girls are typically dressed. Together, we are proud to create a jumpsuit with a strong shoulder and our signature architectural approach — something a bit unexpected, yet still feminine and empowering,” said Gurung, at a launch held at the Paddock Club at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
IMG model Chanel Iman unveiled the black jumpsuit through a video model diary and photo shoot, shot on location at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi and in front of an Etihad Airways F1-branded Airbus A380.

Elementary School Principal, 59, Accused of Asking Teen Girls to Go Skinny-Dipping at His Home

A 59-year-old Arizona elementary school principal was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly posting online ads asking teenage girls to go skinny-dipping with him at his house, PEOPLE confirms.

Karl Judd Waggoner is held on the suspicion of luring and aggravated luring of a minor. He remains in the Pinal County jail in Arizona in lieu of a $ 100,000 bond and is awaiting formal charges as the county attorney reviews the case, authorities say.

It was unclear Wednesday if he has retained an attorney.

Law enforcement began investigating Waggoner, a principal at Four Peaks Elementary School in Apache Junction, Arizona, after a detective with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office came across an online ad on Craigslist asking for teen girls to come out to a skinny-dipping party at Waggoner’s home in nearby Scottsdale, Arizona.

A sex crimes detective then posed as a 14-year-old girl in order to engage Waggoner, who allegedly had “sexually inappropriate conversations, discussed engaging in sexual acts with the undercover detective and provided sexually explicit photos,” Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb tells PEOPLE.

“Our detective found the ad last week,” Lamb explains, alleging, “All through this holiday weekend, he was posting online and soliciting for young girls. We decided to move on it Tuesday morning and we picked him up near the school.”

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

“Our detective was very clear that he portrayed himself as a 14-year-old girl,” Lamb says.

He says the undercover investigator was “going back and forth” with Waggoner for six days.

After Waggoner was arrested, Lamb says he allegedly “admitted to having the profile and the communication with the investigator.”

Lamb says the sheriff’s office has reached out to law enforcement in Texas, where Waggoner previously worked, on the suspicion that there may be a history of wrongdoing. Their investigation is ongoing.

Sally Marks, a spokeswoman for the Apache Junction Unified School District, where Waggoner works, tells PEOPLE he was hired on July 18 and started at the elementary school on Aug. 7. He is now on leave, she says.

“We are very very shocked to hear the news,” she says, noting he “received glowing recommendations from everyone we talked to.”

• PEOPLE’s special edition True Crime Stories: 35 Real Cases That Inspired the Show Law & Order is on sale now.

“We did a background check on him and nothing showed up,” Marks says. “All the standard things we do, fingerprinting, background checks. We also did personal checks. … We are supposed to go back five years and we went back 15. He was very qualified. We were initially thrilled.”

Waggoner had allegedly moved to Arizona to be closer to elderly relatives, Marks says.

News of his arrest has reportedly shocked the school community.

“When I first met him, I thought something was a little strange about him,” Kay Garrett, whose granddaughter goes to the elementary school, told local TV station KNXV. “He seemed nice — but wow.”

Girl Power! Mel B Talks Raising Daughters to Be ‘Confident, Strong Women’ – and What They Think of Her Spice Girls Music

Between raising three daughters, managing a busy career and finding time to hang out with her former Spice Girls bandmates, Melanie “Mel B” Brown won’t be slowing down any time soon — but she takes it all in stride.

“You learn something every day when you’re a mom — especially when you’re a working mom,” the America’s Got Talent judge tells PEOPLE. “You’re constantly trying to balance work, being a mom, making sure you’re there for the school runs and dinners and home-cooked food.”

Luckily, the age range among her daughters — Madison, 6 on Friday, Angel Iris, 10, and Phoenix Chi, 18 — often comes in handy. “Thank God I’ve got an 18-year-old babysitter on tap when she can be bothered to babysit,” says Brown, 42, adding, “My kids are great. They’re all very different.”

Want all the latest pregnancy and birth announcements, plus celebrity mom blogs? Click here to get those and more in the PEOPLE Babies newsletter.

RELATED VIDEO: Mel B talks Spice Girls Reunion: “Hopefully We’ll be Doing Bits and Pieces Together”

Brown describes youngest daughter Madison — whom she shares custody of with estranged husband Stephen Belafonte amid their divorce — as the “snuggler.”

“Madison is just stuck by my side,” she says. “Madison will meditate with me and play with all of my crystals, and she’s really sweet.”

RELATED: Victoria Beckham’s Daughter Harper Plays with Spice Girls Dolls and Learns About Mom’s Pop-Star Past

Angel, on the other hand, isn’t so outwardly affectionate. “I need to beg Angel for a hug,” Brown explains. “Angel is very much in her own little world and very creative with the computer and making things and decorating her room.”

When it comes to Phoenix, she jokes, “I’m thinking I know what she does half the time, but she’s a good girl.”

Though her daughters couldn’t be any more different, Brown is hoping to raise them all with the same principles.

“All you can give them is love, affection and attention and they go on their merry way,” she says. “I hope I’m raising three confident, strong women on the inside who are appreciative, respectful and supportive of other women.”

Plus, they all share a stellar repertoire of Spice Girls and ’90s era hits — whether they like it or not.

“I constantly play music around them and Phoenix was on tour with me,” she says. “One of them calls it ‘old people’s music.’ like, ‘What are you talking about? It’s ’90s pop. It’s the best genre of music ever.’ ”

She continues, “That vibe is brilliant. I listen to my own music all the time and not just my own solos, but Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys — I’m a ’90s R&B pop girl. I’m always going to be like that.”

Though Brown says she spent time with her Spice Girls bandmate Emma Bunton (a.k.a. Baby Spice) at a bar after work recently, she says that unfortunately “there isn’t” a reunion tour on the way.

“I think everyone is pretty locked into what they’re doing. Everybody is busy, and everyone has families,” she says. “But I would be the first one to be up there!”

Alex Rodriguez Gets Emotional as He Describes How Boys & Girls Club Saved His Life as a Kid

Fourteen-time MLB All-Star Alex Rodriguez may be a sports legend now, but the former New York Yankee says his path could have gone in a very different direction.

Speaking on Tuesday morning (just before the All-Star game) at the Boys & Girls Club of Miami-Dade, Rodriguez recalled how the local charity formed his childhood years and guided his future.

“This is a dream day. It’s a dream day because the Boys & Girls Club really shifted – perhaps saved – my life,” the slugger said of the club, which was celebrating a new teen center in Kendall.

“My mother worked two jobs, she was a secretary in the morning and served tables at night – at a place called Latin America right down the street.

“And I remember every day getting dropped off at the Boys & Girls Club, doing my homework for about two or three hours – at least pretending to do my homework (laughs) – and then I would go and play baseball under the lights as a nine year old boy. In front of hundreds of people, under the lights.”

Rodriguez, 41, who spent the weekend attending All-Star events with girlfriend Jennifer Lopez, happily celebrated the club’s newest expansion, which he has donated millions to.

Joined by his daughter Natasha and current Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton, the athlete took the club’s current kids through some drills before officially cutting the ribbon at the new teen center.

Rodriguez will also announce Tuesday night’s All-Star game for Fox Sports.

Referencing his work with the organization as well as Stanton’s work with his charity All Star Smiles, Rodriguez said, “A lot of amazing things can be done when people come together and try to give back and pay it forward. All of us here have been very fortunate and have been tremendous beneficiaries of Major League Baseball,” adding of their efforts, “For a lot of kids it’s a hope – out of the inner city – out of the ghetto, it gives you hope.”

After the ribbon cutting, Rodriguez took a minute to reinforce his message.

“The Boys & Girls Club didn’t just give me a place to go after school, it also taught me a high level of competition…it’s our job now to pay that debt back,” he said, adding, “that time for me was life changing.”

Girls On Soccer Team Cut Hair To Support Teammate Mistaken For Boy

Nine girls on a youth soccer team in Nebraska cut their hair on Thursday in solidarity with their 8-year-old teammate who has found herself at the center of a national controversy.

“They care,” Mili Hernandez, the girl at the center of the debate, told the Omaha World-Herald.

Last week, Mili, who sports a pixie-style haircut, made national headlines when her family told numerous media outlets that her soccer team had been disqualified from the Springfield Soccer Club tournament after their daughter was mistaken for a boy.

“They only did it because I look like a boy,” Mili told local news station WOWT 6.

The Springfield Soccer Club, which organizes the tournament, says Mili’s hair had nothing to do with what happened. They say that the girl was listed on the team’s roster as “male,” which is what ultimately led to the disqualification.

But Mili still believes her hair played a role. Her family said that they showed officials identification and insurance cards to prove is legally recognized as female, but it didn’t make a difference.

“They just weren’t listening,” Mili told local CBS affiliate KMTV. “They said I looked like a boy.”

And tournament director Lanyard Burgett later gave a completely different reason for the disqualification. He told The Washington Post that the real cause was an issue related to teams illicitly swapping players, and had nothing to do with Mili.

“The male player on a female roster was discovered in the middle of working through the player swapping issue and has been incorrectly identified as the reason for dismissal,” Burgett said.

In any case, the devotion of Mili’s teammates to their friend is clear. Photos and video (above) show the girls proudly displaying their cut-off ponytails on the field.

“It was scary,” 10-year-old Erika Ortiz told the World-Herald. “But it made me feel good to support Mili.”

The Manchester Attack And The Resilience Of Teen Girls

In Manchester on Monday, what should have been a joyful evening of music and dancing at Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous Woman” concert turned into horrific tragedy. Just as fans were filing out of the arena, many with pink balloons in hand, a young man standing in the ticket area detonated a bomb.

The terror attack claimed at least 22 lives, and left nearly 60 injured. It was the deadliest attack in the U.K. since 2005.

We don’t yet know what the proclaimed motivations of the attacker who terrorized Manchester Arena were ― the 22-year-old man who carried out the attack died in the blast ― but what we do know is that the majority of Ariana Grande’s fans are young women and girls. By all reports, the arena was filled with children, mothers and daughters, teen and tween girls who had traveled to the show in pairs or packs.

Teen girls learn how to express passion and love with abandon in a world that largely devalues, objectifies and mocks them.

Pop concerts like Grande’s provide a space where fandoms thrive. And Grande’s fandom, known affectionately as Arianators, is comprised largely of teen girls and LGBTQ youth. (“SO EXCITED TO SEE U TOMORROW,” 18-year-old Georgina Callendar, the Manchester bombing’s first-identified victim, tweeted at Grande on Sunday.) One can surmise that Monday’s concert-goers, ranging in age by decades, many wearing their idol’s signature cat ears and high pony, went out for a night into a space they believed would bring them (or their children) joy and a chance for unencumbered self-expression. For a few hours, the fans in attendance could sing along, losing themselves in the music and soaking up a bit of Grande’s subtle, transgressive sexuality.

Any terror attack flips the switch from assumed safety to fear, from light to darkness, evoking mourning from around the world. But there is something especially hideous about the targeting, whether intentional or not, of young people ― especially young people leaving a space that was supposed to belong to them, at least for a night.

As the New York Times’ Ceylan Yeginsu, Rory Smith and Stephen Castle wrote of the attack:

The violence is intended to stoke fear and to deliver a message. And it was the message of the Manchester blast that was so chilling: the slaughter of teenagers, the anxiety of parents who had been waiting to take their children home, the frantic search for loved ones amid chaos and sirens.

Teen girls are magical beings. I don’t consider this a political statement, more a statement of fact. And, no, Twitter trolls, this does not mean I believe teens are physically immune to the ravages of a terror attack. It means that teen girls learn how to express passion and love with abandon in a world that largely devalues, objectifies and mocks them. It was depressing but unsurprising that in the hours just after the Manchester bombing, at least one male journalist found it an appropriate moment to show disdain for Grande’s music and her largely girlish fan base on Twitter. (The tweets have since been deleted.)

Teen girls can find joy in drugstore glitter, as well as deeply intimate friendship. They can be smart as hell. They can read up about politics and racial inequality and gender-based violence with just as much enthusiasm as they do about their favorite bands and YouTube stars. And, as Harry Styles articulated in a widely-shared Rolling Stone interview last month, when they find meaning in a musician and their songs, they show up for that artist, again and again and again: “Teenage-girl fans ― they don’t lie. If they like you, they’re there.” That artist becomes the recipient of their unbound love.

You see this same love manifesting between teen girls (and boys and adults of all genders) in the wake of the Manchester bombing. In the hours following the attack, there was an outpouring of collective grief and support for victims, their loved ones and Grande herself ― both online and from within Manchester.

Members of other fandoms, from Justin Bieber’s Beliebers to Demi Lovato’s Lovatics to One Direction’s Directioners, each community named after their chosen idol, vowed they’d be there for Arianators.

Twitter, which sometimes feels like nothing more than a cruel cesspool, showed up for Georgina Callendar’s best friend Sophie after she posted a beautiful remembrance of her on Twitter.

“To my beautiful best friend I hope you rest in peace my darling. I love you so much and will always miss you,” she tweeted.

The messages began pouring in.

“I’m so sorry for your loss. I do not know you but I am sending you all my thoughts and endless amounts of my love,” one young woman wrote

“i know saying sorry won’t help but i really am. u have so many people that are here for u in this time,” tweeted another

(Strangers tweet their condolences to Callendar’s BFF, below.)

And in Manchester, the community is rallying, as flowers fill the streets near the arena, and blood banks are overwhelmed with donations.

Teen Vogue writer Lauren Duca received an email from a 23-year-old who lives in Manchester, which she posted on Twitter just after midnight on Tuesday.

“We in this city have not reacted to this terror attack with vitriol; or with fear,” the author of the email wrote. “Our first reaction has been to take to the streets with water, with supplies, to open our homes to those who are stranded and also, sadly, to guide the families who have lost their children through to the centre of a city they don’t know. If you do choose to write about us, please know that [we] reacted with kindness, empathy and love. Not with hate.”

Nothing can fix the senseless violence and loss of life that occurred in Manchester. There is no making it better, and there is no undoing the trauma and violation that those directly touched by the terror attack ― and those impacted by any terror attack around the world ― experienced.

But what we can do is remember that, like the young women who fill concert halls to dance and laugh and bond, choosing unfettered love and joy whenever possible is the only way forward.

Viral Post Highlights The Body Image Messages Girls Get From Their Moms

A Missouri mom’s Facebook post is highlighting the way mothers can have an impact on their daughters’ relationships with body image.

On May 8, Brittney Johnson posted a photo of herself trying on a swimsuit in a Target fitting room with her 4-year-old daughter Payton.

In the caption, Johnson described the day she spent with her daughter, noting that Payton chatted with a barista at Starbucks, made sure to say “please” and “thank you” at dinner, complimented a stranger’s’ hair, high-fived the attendant at a carousel she rode and even gave her two extra ride tokens to another little girl.

At the end of the day, Johnson and her daughter went to Target, where the mom picked out some swimsuits to try on. As she tried them on, she sent photos to her friends to help make choices. During this process, she snapped the photo she shared in her Facebook post.

“See that sweet baby girl in the corner? With half a dress on and one of the bikini tops I had picked out?” Johnson wrote. “I stopped for a second to see what she would say and when she turned to the mirror, she said ‘Wow I just love cheetah print! I think I look beautiful! Do you think I look beautiful too?!’”

At that point, the mom said she realized the impact her words and actions have on her daughter.

“I tell her that she is beautiful every single day,” Johnson wrote. “She is kind walking through the mall, because I tell her she is kind everywhere else. She is polite at the order counter because she hears me when I’m polite to strangers everywhere. She gives compliments to people she doesn’t know because she loves how it feels when she hears them.”

Applying this realization to parenting, she added. “When we are in a dressing room, with swimsuits of all God forsaken things, there is a split moment when I have the power to say ‘wow I have really gotten fat this year’ OR ‘wow I love this coral color on me!’ And those are the words burned into my daughters brain.”

Johnson called on her fellow parents to be examples for their kids when it comes to manners, kindness and body image.

“I am not a size zero. I never will be. I have big thighs and a huge rump and for some reason the middle of my body gets more tan than the rest?” she wrote. “But this body made a whole other body. I am strong. I am able. And I am happy. I don’t have to be beautiful like you, because I am beautiful like me.”

She added, “And as my daughter gets older, and she faces judgement and criticism, I will always remind her that the girls who look the prettiest in a two piece, or a body suit, or a freaking Snuggie, are the ones who are happy. Because that’s ALL that matters. And I want her to look at herself every single day and say ‘Oh wow! I think I look beautiful!’ because EVERY girl deserves to feel that.”

Johnson’s post received over 227,000 likes. She told HuffPost she was touched by the overwhelming response and ability to connect with fellow parents. Many people reached out to say her post inspired them to stop saying negative things about themselves.

“It has been such a great reminder that we are all on the same team, have the same fears and ultimately want the same thing for our children ― love,” she said.

“For every mean comment that I’ve received about my body, I’ve received at least a thousand positive comments, and I have to say that gives me a little more faith in humanity than when I started,” the mom added.

Johnson said she’s become a strong proponent of self-love. “I’m a mom but I am a lot of other things too. I’m a friend and a woman, and I think that sometimes going through the motions of being a momma drowns out the time to be all of the other things too,” she told HuffPost, adding that she thinks it’s particularly important to teach young girls to love others and themselves.

“I hope people can read my post and then look at themselves and say, ‘Here I am, and I am beautiful just the way I am.’ I hope people take away from it that our kids should know self-love and will only learn it if we take the time to teach it to them,” Johnson said.

She added, “And no matter what kind of mom you are or what size, you are beautiful and have every right to feel like you are.”

When Tiny Girls Terrify Grown Men

This column originally appeared in Emily Peck’s newsletter, a weekly email that looks at the convergence of women, economics, business and politics. Sign up here

Look, it’s obviously the height of absurdity to be afraid of little girls. Yet, here we are. Earlier this week, the sculptor behind the 11-foot bronze bull, a symbol of the virile finance industry and an institution on Wall Street for decades, held a press conference to complain about a 4-foot statue of a little girl recently placed nearby.

The “Fearless Girl” statue was installed facing off against Arturo Di Modica’s bull last month, as part of a publicity stunt by a massive financial institution.

The little girl ― posed with her hands on her hips ― was only supposed to be there for like a day, but she became so popular that she got an extension from the city of New York.

Di Modica is freaking out about the girl statue’s “threat.” He’s gotten himself a lawyer. He said “Fearless Girl” is an insult to his work.

Because of “Fearless Girl,” Di Modica’s lawyer, Norman Siegel, said at the press conference, the bull “no longer carries a positive, optimistic message.” The little girl has  “transformed” the giant muscular bronze bull into “a negative force and a threat,” he said.

I suggest Messrs. Di Modica and Siegel stay away from local playgrounds, the American Girls store and Hannah Anderson shops during sales season.

What’s really scary

Men who shoot their wives and girlfriends. They are scary. And threatening.

Like Cedric Anderson, who shot and killed his wife and an 8-year-old child in a San Bernadino, California, classroom where she was teaching on Monday

Every day, three women, on average, are killed by men ― usually a husband or boyfriend, according to reporting by my colleague, Melissa Jeltsen. In fact, more than half of all shootings in the U.S. in which at least four people died involved domestic violence. Many of the victims were children.

But yeah, let’s do extreme vetting and bomb Middle Eastern countries to feel safe. Gun control seems ridic, amiright?

The absolute terror of a pretty woman

I’ve enjoyed many of Michael Lewis’s books ― Moneyball, Liar’s Poker, The Big Short, etc. So I was surprised how much I did not like this essay he wrote in the 1990s. It’s about how his wife is beautiful and how he finds that threatening. Living in the shadow of her hotness is a “weird degradation,” he wrote back then.

Tone-Deaf Jewelry Ad Tells Customers To ‘Throw Rocks At Girls’

A jewelry store in Asheville, North Carolina has apologized for its tone-deaf billboard ad that caused outrage on the internet.

The billboard in question comes from Spicer Greene Jewelers and is currently located near Interstate 240. It reads: “Sometimes, It’s ok to throw rocks at girls…,” surrounded by photos of brightly colored jewels, aka “rocks.”

The company issued an apology on Facebook Thursday after the ad sparked a negative reaction on Twitter and in the media

Eva-Michelle Spicer, the co-owner of Spicer Greene Jewelers, told The Huffington Post via email that the billboard will come down as soon as they can replace it with their next campaign (which is usually around every four weeks, according to Asheville paper, The Citizen Times ). When HuffPost asked who came up with the statement, Spicer said, “It’s a common phrase in the jewelry industry. We did not invent it.”

The majority of responses to Spicer Greene’s Facebook apology implied they many thought the ad was funny and that critics of it were being too sensitive.

“BRILLIANT AD…No apology required,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “These people are idiots and will probably never have any shiny rocks thrown at them! The billboard is funny! Get a sense of humor, life will be much better!”

One woman complained about the “snowflakes that whine over everything,” and told the company, “I hope you make a 500% increase in sales.”

Many of the Twitter responses to the company’s apologies also maintained the billboard was “hilarious:”

Others, like Chelsea Clinton, found the ad incredibly offensive and pointed out that joking about violence against women is “never funny.” Especially in a world where women are still stoned to death

“The billboard was intent to be a nostalgic thought of a childhood teaching,” Spicer told ABC News 13 WLOS. “That it’s not ok to throw rocks at girls, it’s not ok to throw rocks at anyone… It saddens me that it was taken that way, because it certainly wasn’t intended.”

Justin Long Wanted To Be A Priest, Until Girls Got In The Way

Justin Long didn’t always want to be an actor. In fact, he thought of himself more as a holy athlete.

The actor chatted with The Huffington Post on Build Series Wednesday and admitted that, when he was younger, he aspired to be a priest ― until reality set in.

“I wanted to be, well first, a priest. This will be funnier to you, a professional football player, and then back to wanting to be a priest. Then, I discovered that priests had to be celibate and so I figured that might be difficult,” he joked, continuing, “Then, I was into marine biology, I wanted to be a biologist.”

“Sadly, I love sports so much, but I was so small that I wasn’t able to compete. In high school, I needed a way to — it’s very embarrassing to admit, but its true— meet girls. It’s sad, but true. I will admit it, it was purely to meet girls, and so I followed my older brother into plays and I started to fall in love with it.”

Although he’s played a range of characters, including a boyfriend, a dodgeball player, an art gallery receptionist and a podcaster, Long has yet to portray a priest on screen, but “would like to.”

“A great role model for me growing up was my godfather, who was a missionary priest, and he worked a lot in New Guinea and started a mission there called Divine Word Missionaries,” Long said. “He was a Catholic priest, and yeah, that’s what started it. He was a beautiful man.”

Long has tried to take on roles that both challenge him and pique his interest, appearing in a variety of films from “Galaxy Quest” and “Accepted” to “Drag Me To Hell” and “He’s Just Not That Into You.” But his strategy for deciding on which projects to take on has changed over the years.

“For a while, I was so thrilled to be able to act for a living that I would kind of take whatever came around,” he explained. “My mom was an actress, so I grew up with the mentality that you just go where the jobs are; you just take the jobs that come along. So I wasn’t turning down a lot of things, for better or for worse. I ended up doing a lot of movies, one after the other, just because I love to work. [But] for the last couple of years, my personal time has been more precious to me,” Long added. “You know, the older you get, the more precious time becomes and so I’ve consciously been not taking everything.”

The 38-year-old is going back to his “Jeepers Creepers” roots to star in a new horror thriller that will freak you out. “Lavender,” co-starring Abbie Cornish, Diego Klattenhoff and Dermot Mulroney, tells the story of a woman (Cornish) with memory loss who is reminded of her horrifying past after discovering her abandoned childhood home. Long plays Cornish’s inquisitive psychiatrist in the film, which is now on iTunes and VOD.

“I enjoy the genre, so it was nice to kind of get back and do another one,” he said of the Ed Gass-Donnelly–helmed movie.

The Herrera Girls Go Downtown: Front Row at Carolina Herrera

“It’s a new downtown Herrera,” said Emmy Rossum on Monday morning, patiently awaiting Carolina Herrera’s fall collection. The Herrera loyalist had followed the designer down from her show venue of the last few seasons, The Frick Museum, to a space on Little West 12th — a fact she seemed certain would be reflected in the designs. “I mean, she’s quintessentially New York, so uptown, downtown, doesn’t really matter.”
Rossum was joined by Karolina Kurkova, Hilary Rhoda, Nicky Hilton, Prabal Gurung, Emily Robinson and Skyler Samuels and in addition to pledging her excitement at seeing the new collection, spoke about how the designer is inspiring her in her own career changes.
“I just finished directing an episode of a show for TNT called ‘Animal Kingdom,’ with Ellen Barkin. I go back to my show [‘Shameless’] in the summer; I did a movie for Netflix this summer, it’s called ‘A Futile and Stupid Gesture,’ if that’s still the name. It’s a comedy — and I’m working on writing and directing,” Rossum said. “It’s my second time directing and I’m doing another episode of my show this year, and maybe another Showtime show. I really like it. One thing about Mrs. Herrera that I think is so

Regarding Emma: Photographs of American Women and Girls

Regarding Emma: Photographs of American Women and Girls

For more than fifteen years, Melissa Ann Pinney has been making photographs of girls and women, from infancy to old age, to portray how feminine identity is constructed, taught, and communicated. Her work depicts not only the rites of American womanhood-a prom, a wedding, a baby shower, a tea party-but the informal passages of girlhood: combing a doll’s hair, doing laundry with a mother, smoking a cigarette at a state fair. With each view, we gain a greater understanding of the connections between mother and daughter, and by extension the larger world of family, friends, and society. Pinney’s approach to interpreting girlhood became more complicated and complex when her daughter, Emma, was born eight years ago. Emma’s childhood evoked in Pinney her own girlhood and gave her work new meaning and purpose. Ultimately, Regarding Emma shares with all of us the incremental and the ritualistic changes that take place in a woman’s life over time. Her photographs are artistic and social documents that reveal the subtle and bold aspects of feminine identity-documents whose reach will extend well beyond the walls of America’s leading galleries and museums into the hearts and homes of everyday Americans. Melissa Ann Pinney is making powerful art. In matters of light, color, and composition she is flawless. But these are not simply constructions of elements. These photographs bear witness to the speed at which the little girl becomes the old woman, to the fleeting, breathless beauty of childhood, to life itself, which leaves us stunned in its wake-Ann Patchett, from the Foreword Melissa Ann Pinney provides a compelling portrait of American girls as they make their way frominfancy to adulthood. Using her daughter’s childhood as a point of departure, she traces the complex terrain of adolescence and budding femininity. The results are photographs marked by empathy and grace-Sylvia Wolf, Sondra Gilman Curator of Photography, Whitney Museum of American Art, N

Malia Obama Was An ‘Angel’ Intern For ‘Girls’ Because Of Course

Oh, to have Malia Obama as your intern.

Lena Dunham and “Girls” showrunner Jenni Konner sat down with Howard Stern for an interview on his SiriusXM show Monday and talked about how they had the privilege of working with the 18-year-old former First Daughter on the set of their HBO series back in the summer of 2015.

“She’s an angel,” Dunham said. “She was interested and she was interning at HBO and they thought, you know, what if she comes a couple days a week to the set of ‘Girls.’ She loved the show. Obviously we weren’t making her go get our coffee, but she wanted to do all the jobs, that was the cool thing. She was totally enthusiastic.”

Yes, the Secret Service was around. No, Malia was not on set for the filming of any sex scenes. And she’s as smart as you’d think.

“She’s such a delight. You cannot believe how poised and incredible she is,” Konner said. Malia, they said, worked a job similar to a writer’s assistant, training to take down the improv to use in subsequent shots.

Malia’s latest gig is an internship with film producer Harvey Weinstein at the Weinstein Company’s New York office. The teen, who wants to become a filmmaker and is taking a gap year before beginning Harvard University in the fall, is set to start her Weinstein internship this month, and will be working in the marketing or development department, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lauren Jauregui Wants Fifth Harmony’s Diversity To Empower Girls

In an interview with Nylon, Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui shares her thoughts on politics, feminism and her experience at the Women’s March on Washington.

Back in November, Jauregui wrote an open letter to Donald Trump supporters, in which she also came out as bisexual. Since then, the singer has not been shy about sharing her political views with her fans and most recently marched alongside thousands in Washington, an experience she called “the most incredible day of my life.”

When Nylon asked her about Fifth Harmony’s role in society, beyond the music scene, Jauregui explained, “Some of our songs are empowering, but I feel like more so than our music, it’s who we are.” She continued, “We’re four women who are completely different ethnicities, completely different body types, completely different walks of life and opinions.” She goes on to say that she wants the group’s diversity to empower women and encourage fans to celebrate their differences. We sure feel inspired over here!

“We have an energy about us that’s so unique and so intense, and it’s because of how much power we have in us as individuals, being confident, harnessing that power, and wanting to share that with other women.”

You can read the rest of her Nylon interview here.

John Deere Girl’s JD2166 Pink Pull On Moisture Wicking Western Boots

John Deere Girl’s JD2166 Pink Pull On Moisture Wicking Western Boots

If you’ve got a little girl at home, you know that they can be angels…but also little devils. They want to wear what they want to wear…and usually, they want to wear something pink. Put your little cowgirl in these John Deere JD2166 Fuchsia Pull-On Girl’s Western Boots, and you can both be happy. She’ll get the look she wants, and you can give her the safety and comfort you know she needs. These Western boots are made by John Deere, and that means they are made with all those features and extra bells and whistles that feet need. Comfort? Safety? Strength? Yes — these John Deere boots have it all. But they’ve also got bold, bright fuchsia pink boot shafts to make your little angel/devil happy. Dark brown leather in the foot part shows you that these pull-on boots were made with the same commitment to quality that John Deere brings to all of their products. The shafts are embellished with decorative stitching to complete that stylish cowgirl look of these pink boots. Pull holes around the top allow her to put her leather boots on herself, and you already know that little girls want to do everything on their own.Even the insides of these John Deere boots are made well. Their little feet and delicate skin will be surrounded by soft material. The moisture-wicking lining actually draws sweat away from skin. That keeps feet dryer to prevent blisters, fungus and discomfort. John Deere uses tried-and-true materials and construction techniques to create these moisture-wicking boots. No detail has been missed; they’re made just like any pair of adult, work-ready footwear from John Deer. In fact, this pair was put together with durable Goodyear welt construction. This stitched method joins the uppers and lowers together with a firm bond. Waxed thread, resistant to chemicals and moisture, was used to create the repairable, durable construction method of these kids boots. The soles are made with non-marking, shock-absorbent rubber that supports little steps. It’s the same material used in the adult sizes of John Deere boots because your little one deserves nothing less. John Deere JD2166 Fuchsia Pull-On Girl’s Western Moisture-Wicking Boots keep your little angel feeling safe and comfortable, even when she’s being a little devil about her wardrobe.Manufactured sizes include: 1-3, 8.5-12.5

People Across The U.S. Are Raising Money For Girls To See ‘Hidden Figures’

“Hidden Figures,” the hit film that tells the story of three black women who helped NASA send a man into orbit, has been praised for putting women of color in the spotlight.

That’s why people across the country ― teens, teachers and community leaders ― are raising money through GoFundMe to ensure young girls can see the movie.

One of those people is Taylor Richardson, a 13-year-old aspiring astronaut from Florida, who wants to send 100 girls to see “Hidden Figures” at a theater in Jacksonville, Florida. She also wants to raise money on GoFundMe for the girls to have snacks and get a copy of the “Hidden Figures” book.

Richardson first saw the movie at a screening at the White House and has since seen it three more times. She said the film was “amazing.”

“I cried, I laughed, I got angry and then got determined to not let others’ impressions of me because of the color of my skin impact how my life will be,” she told The Huffington Post. “These black women did something I never knew about, and it’s not in any history books that I’ve studied thus far.”

As of Friday, Richardson has raised $ 2,540 of her $ 2,600 goal. She found the girls she plans to take to see the film from organizations that have impacted her life like the YMCA, Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, See The Girl and Journey Into Womanhood. She wants them to go home after the movie feeling as inspired as she did.

“This movie instills that us girls can dream big and make it even when odds are against us,” she said. “Most importantly I want girls to know that, like boys, they too can excel in STEM with hard work.”

Several teachers across the country have also started GoFundMe campaigns to help send their students to see the influential film. After reaching his goal of $ 1,000, Peter Modlin will be taking girls in second, third, fourth and fifth grade who attend the Detroit elementary school where he teaches. Modlin told HuffPost he hopes the students learn to dream big after watching the movie.

“I want the girls to see this movie in hopes that a lightbulb might go off,” he said. “A lightbulb that signifies a belief in the opportunity to do or be anything they want to be, if they work hard to achieve that goal.”

Like Richardson and Modlin, Phyllis Marshall raised money on GoFundMe so local girls could see “Hidden Figures,” and has since taken them to see it.

On Jan. 7, she took 50 girls from Roberts Family Development Center in Sacramento, California, to the theater. She’s worked with the center, which is in a low-income community and provides after-school care, for years. Through GoFundMe she raised more than her $ 1,500 goal, which provided transportation, snacks and tickets to the movie. Marshall said “they loved it.”

Marshall was glad to be able to show the girls that women can succeed in science, technology and mathematics. She was especially thrilled to show them that women of color and their success deserve a place on the big screen.

“I certainly hope as many young girls get to see that movie as possible.”

Other teachers and community leaders are raising money for kids to see “Hidden Figures, too. Check out their campaigns below.

Lauren Graham Reveals Gilmore Girls TV Mom Kelly Bishop Recommended She Date Peter Krause Years Ago

Before Lauren Graham fell in love with her Parenthood costar Peter Krause, her Gilmore Girls TV mom Kelly Bishop suggested she date the actor!

In her new memoir, Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between), the actress, who revived her role as Lorelai Gilmore alongside Bishop’s Emily Gilmore in Netflix’s four-part series A Year in the Life, revealed that the Gilmore Girls matriarch suggested Krause for her TV daughter long before the duo began dating.

“From the start of the show Kelly named herself my TVM, or TV mom, by which she meant she was taking her character’s role seriously, beyond the pages or sets and out into the real world … In a maternal, protective way, she found most of my boyfriends at the time lacking, and once told me I needed someone who was more my equal, like ‘that wonderful actor on Six Feet Under,’ ” Graham, 49, pens in her new book, Entertainment Weekly reported. (Krause starred on Six Feet Under as Nate Fisher from 2001-2005)

Graham’s role as Sarah Braverman on Parenthood came after GG wrapped, and it was on set that she met and starred alongside 51-year-old Krause, whom she now lives with in Los Angeles.

“At our age we’d probably both been through ‘showmances’ that went south and made work an uncomfortable place to be,” Graha, writes in her book. “But ultimately, our mutual wariness gave way — it just sort of happened.”

The actress told PEOPLE of her partner, who made a cameo in the Gilmore Girls revival, “I mean, he’s really my favorite person to talk to,” and added, “And he always makes me laugh. He’s really, really funny.”

“It’s hard to explain to people when you have a fancy job like being an actor what is challenging about it. So we just kind of have that shorthand, a shared language, which is helpful.”

For more highlights from Graham’s Talking as Fast as I Can, go to EW.com.

The ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival Is Best When It Talks About Grief

There’s a moment in the opening chapter of “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” after the first “la las” and Gwyneth Paltrow dig, when the long-awaited Netflix revival finally takes a second to breathe. Fueled by a late-night batch of coffee, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) convene in their rarely used kitchen to do the thing they do better than anyone else on television: talk.

“I’m just stressed out and kind of feeling my mortality lately,” Lorelai says after confessing that she willingly flipped through a brochure for an all-expenses-paid cruise, much to the women’s shared horror.

The line is especially significant given that the series, much like its caffeine-infused hero, is also contending with its mortality. Nine years after it was cancelled by the CW on the heels of a rudderless final season, “Gilmore Girls” has become the latest in a long line of early 2000s series to get the revival treatment. But instead of abandoning what made the show so beloved, “A Year in the Life,” at its best, honors the essential themes of the series (family, fighting and Al’s Pancake World, duh) by taking the Gilmore women on a yearlong journey of grief and self-discovery.

Besides the steady stream of “Tuck Everlasting” water under Stars Hollow that’s apparently keeping everybody ageless, the undercurrent of the revival series is the death of actor Edward Hermann, who embodied Gilmore family patriarch Richard. His absence strikes Lorelai, Rory and his wife of 50 years, Emily (Kelly Bishop), who also shared a deep bond with Hermann off-set, in both devastating and humorous ways.

Each woman is facing a crossroads in life. Lorelai, now in a full-fledged relationship with Luke (Scott Patterson), is questioning her happily ever after. A sizable inheritance for an expansion of Luke’s Diner is revealed to be Richard’s parting gift to his daughter’s presumed husband, although Emily is happy to remind everybody that they haven’t gotten married yet. Emily is unleashed as a widow in mourning, wearing jeans, Marie Kondo-ing her Connecticut mansion and trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy without her other half. She’s made vulnerable by blow of losing a lifelong partner, but still retains the ability to verbally decimate anyone who dares cross her.

“You never do anything unless it’s what you want to do,” Emily seethes at Lorelai in a bitter showdown after she bungles a eulogy at Richard’s wake. “You never have. You blow through life like a natural disaster, knocking down everything and everyone in your path.”

Rory, too, has been affected, but we feel her mourning most acutely in the challenges in her career. See, the great Rory Gilmore is having trouble living up to her potential, bouncing from one freelance journalism gig to another before eventually moving home. We can only imagine that one of the driving forces behind her soul searching is her grandfather’s well-documented expectations of her success. In fact, it’s in his study that she finally discovers her true calling, writing a novel about her family titled Gilmore Girls.

Midway through the first installment we learn that Richard died suddenly due to a massive heart attack. His last words were, “Get the hell away from me,” Lorelai recounts in a therapy session (yes, we get Lorelai and Emily therapy, everybody), leaving his family with little closure and a lot of unresolved anger.

For all the talk of the perpetually chippy “Gilmore” universe, the revival isn’t afraid to go to the dark side, refusing to shy away from the the division and ugliness that can arise after a loved one dies. We witness each of the Gilmore women in a moment of desperation ― Emily’s is wearing jeans, obviously ― but as winter, spring, summer and fall pass, each finds a moment of clarity amid her grief, making them that much more human in the process.

Graham and Bishop have always done the series’ heavy lifting, but their scenes together in “A Year in the Life” should make dual nominations for the actresses a given come awards season. Without the buffer that’s kept them from tackling a stable of mother-daughter issues, their relationship becomes the prism through which the series most successfully tackles the grieving process. In the closing chapter, “Fall,” an empowered Lorelai is finally able to deliver the eulogy she meant to at the start of the series after coming to a revelation on a “Wild”-inspired adventure.

Her monologue about the “best birthday ever” with her father is too long and heartbreaking to include here, but let’s just say it involves Richard Gilmore, a mall pretzel and the movie “Grease.” In perhaps the most rewarding moment of the four chapters, Graham successfully communicates the complicated but fierce love she had for him while on the phone with a mother that was never truly able to understand her.

“I got up enough courage to look up at him,” Lorelai tells Emily with tears streaming down her face. “And he was standing there with a pretzel. A giant pretzel, covered with mustard. And he handed it to me and he said, ‘Let’s go.’ And he took me to the movies.”

Big deaths on television are commonplace these days, as the stakes have been considerably raised since “Gilmore Girls” went off the air. What distinguished the series, even back when it was airing before “One Tree Hill,” however, is that it has never been particularly plot-heavy. Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino doled out big life moments with a glorious stinginess in the original run, making sure the audience recognized the importance of each one.

We sobbed along at Rory’s Chilton graduation because the series had earned our tears and now we mourn Richard and Hermann’s death because the revival treats it with the gravity it deserves. Instead of limiting grief to some easily digestible three-episode arc, “Gilmore Girls” prefers to look death straight in the eye, much like the series “Six Feet Under” (shoutout to newly minted park ranger Peter Krause), by authentically exploring what these women have lost over the course of a year and how it has shaped them.

And as for those final four words, with death comes life. So as Lorelai Gilmore would say: “Full freakin’ circle.”
