Lena Dunham In ‘Greatest Amount of Physical Pain’ She’s Ever Experienced

Healing takes time, so Lena Dunham is taking some time off.

On Friday, the “Girls” creator announced that she is canceling the upcoming “Lenny Letter: America IRL” tour due to her battle with endometriosis by way of a candid letter to her readers on the newsletter’s website.

“To be perfectly honest, Im in the greatest amount of physical pain that I have ever experienced. After being told I was endometriosis-free after my last procedure, more disease was found in deeper spots that required immediate surgery and now physical therapy,” she wrote. “This disease is wily and unrelenting, and Im really blessed to have a community, both online and IRL, who let me express how hard that is. Inspired by you, Im gonna say ‘Eff you’ to embarrassment and walk the walk of a woman who really takes care of herself. My goals have to be simplified for this moment: to write and to heal.”

Met ready

A post shared by Lena Dunham (@lenadunham) on

In recent weeks, Dunham has been sidelined because of the chronic and painful disorder after she was rushed to the emergency room following a red carpet appearance at the Met Gala. The actress experienced complications from a recent surgery, which she hoped at the time would alleviate her discomfort. After a four-day hospital stay, Dunham returned home and has been resting ever since.

The “Lenny Letter: America IRL” was set to bring Dunham and her fellow newsletter contributors, like Sasheer Zamata of “Saturday Night Live,” to audiences across the country with a six-city tour starting on May 31. In light of the cancellation, Dunham promised that tickets will be refunded and the tour will happen one day once her “uterus has taken a chill pill.”

“In the meantime, I encourage you all to gather your girls for evenings of dissent and laughter and wine and analysis and bingeing of ‘Fleabag’ and ‘Chewing Gum,’” Dunham added. “Holding each other close and giving of ourselves is the most radical thing we can do right now.”

Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard: “The Greatest Star of All”

A musical of outsized passions as only Andrew Lloyd Webber could compose, Sunset Boulevard trades in hyperbole. “The greatest star of all,” in the words of Max, her homme d’affaires, Norma Desmond is camp drama queen extraordinaire. With Glenn Close in the role, reprising her Tony-winning performance of 22 years ago at the Palace Theater, Norma is petit as she is large. Need dominates her manipulations so acutely, only the powerhouse chops of the actress who put the word fatal in Fatal Attraction could pull off this tour de force of fragility and grand delusion.

Descending a staircase on a set that also includes a 40 piece orchestra, spare enough to feature projections of old Hollywood, its streets, cars, and populace partying away, Norma Desmond is at home in a mansion of many rooms including one over the garage where Joe Gillis (Michael Xavier), a down on his luck writer comes to reside, entrapped in her web. She wants Joe to help stage a comeback, oops: she prefers return, to stardom. One day, as they visit Cecil B. DeMille’s set, a lighting operator trains his spotlight on her. You see instantly the effect of attention on this faded beauty, unable to surrender to age and the vagaries of fame. Close brings to “As If We Never Said Goodbye,” an aching glimpse into celebrity culture, once it leaves you in the shadows. Her final moments evoke Blanche Dubois’ trust in the kindness of strangers. Set off by that famous readiness for her closeup, Norma Desmond takes the stairs with crumbling majesty, and a light, shattering dance across the stage.

Webber has the distinction of having four musicals currently on Broadway, Sunset Boulevard, with book by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, joining Phantom of the Opera, Cats, and School of Rock. On opening night this week, a crowd that included Bernadette Peters, Gabriel Byrne, Gayle King, William Ivey Long, Bob Balaban, and Lena Hall, filled the Palace to capacity. Cheers for Norma Desmond never stopped, for each solo, and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s operatic music, its repetitions and treacly tropes ripening to crescendo.

The festivities moved on, despite the day’s big snow: at Cipriani 42nd Street, Michael Xavier said the most difficult part of playing Joe Gillis was singing “Sunset Boulevard,” because he had to pause, talk to the audience, and drink, then go back to the song. Fred Johanson, a bald Max, Norma’s enabler said, his greatest challenge was holding back, not taking his fawning indulgence in “The Greatest Star of All,” too far. Siobhan Dillon who plays Betty Schaeffer, Joe’s writing partner and true love, said, she had to make the most of little stage time. “A performance for the ages,” a theater insider enthused of Glenn Close’s Norma Desmond: that praise did not feel like hyperbole.

No Shortcuts For Yuja Wang, The World’s Greatest Living Pianist

Yuja Wang was still an undergraduate at Curtis when she got the call: piano soloist Murray Perahia was under the weather. Could she jump on a plane to southern California and perform the next day with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields?

She could, and she did.

The pianist, barely 22, played with authority and sensitivity, wowing the musically literate in the Orange County audience (yes, there are some even in Costa Mesa).

She also astonished the ensemble’s legendary conductor, Sir Neville Marriner. The audience was treated to the unique tableau of this towering figure on the music scene, 82 and approaching retirement, gazing with fascination at a young woman in the first throes of her career playing breathtaking, breakneck encores.

Wang captivated another top conductor, Michael Tilson Thomas, at another impromptu performance, this time at Carnegie Hall, filling in for yet another ailing soloist. Her playing moved Thomas, a mentor figure in Wang’s career, literally to bow down to her on the famous stage.

Word got around and piano virtuosi most likely started taking better care of their health.

Seven short years later, Wang has become an international star in her own right, touring the world, named 2017 Musical America Artist of the Year, and signed to Deutsche Grammophon, classical music’s most respected brand.

Last week, Wang took her talents to Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, where she performed a sold out recital with violinist Leonidas Kavakos. Wang could have taken the easy road and performed an evening of hummable crowd-pleasers, but that’s not what you do when you’re one of the most talented, enthralling, and even mesmerizing performers on the world scene.

Instead, Wang and Kavakos performed four extremely difficult pieces by Janacek, Schubert, Debussy, and Bartok. They are rarely performed because most touring musicians don’t want to work that hard. The majority of the top dogs have a repertoire of concertos they can play in their sleep, and with some of their performances it sounds that way.

It used to bother Wang, when she was younger, that audiences initially compared her to Lang Lang, the Chinese prodigy known more for his showmanship than his technical skills. European audiences in particular held a prejudice against Asian performers, believing them capable of technical greatness but lacking the emotion that great music ushers forth.

They don’t make those complaints any longer. Wang won over Europeans, Asians, North Americans, and probably also Martians and Venetians with her ability to play with both drama and dexterity.

Wang certainly blew the minds of her Lincoln Center audience. She played with urgency, brilliance, color, energy, and emotion. The Washington Post calls her “arguably” the hottest pianist in the world; they won’t get an argument out of me.

The pairing of Wang and Kavakos seems odd to the eye and sometimes to the ear. He’s world class, yet her talent comes from another planet. Wang dresses as elegantly as she plays; in New York, her jaw-droppingly elegant Atelier Rosemarie Umetsu gowns matched the music.

The good news is that you get to hear four pieces seldom played, and you get to experience Wang’s fiery virtuosity. If you missed the show in New York, you can catch it in southern California and Western Europe over the next few months (YujaWang.com for details).

One of their dates is at Segerstrom Concert Hall in Orange County, where the then-unknown Wang astonished Sir Neville Marriner, back when his career was winding down and hers had just begun. Just seven years later, she has become the ultimate must-see musician for anyone who loves blindingly great performance.

Here’s Why Hedgehogs Are The Greatest Creatures On Earth

Oh sorry, were you not aware that hedgehogs reign superior in the animal kingdom? Well, we have news for you. They do. They are just SO. DAMN. CUTE! But if that’s not enough to convince you, no worries, we’ve anticipated this. Just give us five minutes of your time and you’ll never doubt it again.

Once upon a time, a pinecone, a cactus and a nugget had a baby. No other way to explain the birth of the greatest creature known to man, honestly.

Why should you care about these little guys, you ask? Uh, you mean, other than the fact that they’re teeny tiny cutie pies?

Well, hedghogs fit perfectly in the palm of your hand.

They’re so adorably small, they fit right inside your coffee mug. Which means there’s definitely room for them in your heart.

Their soft little hands and feet are perfect to hold.

Their miniature velvety ears are soft and snuggly.

They make the ultimate travel companion.

A photo posted by Biddy (@biddythehedgehog) on

They’re basically Olympian athletes.

And are always up for adventure.

Some hedgehogs are even a little glamorous. Move over, Beyoncé.

Their quills may be spiky but that doesn’t mean you can’t pet them.

And they’re always down to hang in the great outdoors. Picnic, anyone?

Hedgehogs are nocturnal so they’re always ready to party the night away.

A photo posted by @hedgehog_bb on

They’re probably better sunrise-watching buddies than a SO, tbh.

They also love to binge watch Netflix shows in bed all night long. Sounds familiar? Could this be your spirit animal?

Their rosy little tongues are the best.

A photo posted by Biddy (@biddythehedgehog) on

They’re not picky eaters.

But their favorite treat of all is meal worms. And even though worms are kind of gross, they look so happy eating them, you can’t even hate. You do you, baby hedge!

Hedgehogs are so photogenic they’re the perfect model for major Instagram clout.

Just look at this magical Quidditch star.

And this diehard Taylor Swift fan.

Basically any object you place next to a hedgehog suddenly becomes adorable. Seriously. Just look at this thing!

When a hedgehog sleeps it’s probably the cutest thing in the entire world.

Though they’re a little shy at first, they totally get along with other animals. What social butterflies!

A photo posted by Biddy (@biddythehedgehog) on

And when they’re scared, they get even smaller and curl into a little ball of love.

What’s better than a regular hedgehog? Bath time hedgehog!

AND THEY FLOAT!!!

Belly rubs are like heaven to them. It really doesn’t take much to keep them happy.

They love playing hide and seek (and are surprisingly good at it).

Really, these fashionable lil’ babes just make the world a brighter place.

Still not convinced that hedghogs are the best? Maybe this vine of hedgehogs being muffins will help.

What’s not to love?!

Bill Nye Reading Mean Tweets Is His Greatest Experiment Yet

Bill Nye taught us a lot about chemical reactions over the years, but none of that comes close to the Science Guy’s reactions to mean tweets

Nye recently read some unflattering tweets in support of a Kickstarter campaign for a documentary about him, which, to be honest, we kind of hope just turns out to be two more hours of tweets.

Mean tweets are a staple on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” but what happens when Nye’s science and reason meet the incoherent ramblings of the Internet? You get gold, people. Pure gold.

The Ten Greatest Stoners in Movie History

2015-07-09-1436481138-3421662-candc

2015 will most likely go down as the year that the once-taboo became respectable, with both gay marriage and marijuana finding legal and public acceptance nationwide. While the Supreme Court made same-sex marriage legal in all fifty states, the marijuana initiative is having an appropriately slower, but steady climb into legality. That said, we thought we’d take a look at some of cinema’s greatest proponents of the stoner lifestyle, before it all becomes downright conventional.

10. Jeff Spicoli–Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)

Sean Penn not only became a star with his turn as surfer/stoner Jeff Spicoli in the 1980s’ most iconic teen movie, he established how the stoners of the ’80s differed from their predecessors: while the rebels of the ’60s and ’70s viewed their use of cannabis as a symbol of rebellion, and preferred it to alcohol and the other symbols of their parents’ generation and its decadence, in the ’80s it was all about hedonism, which included drinking and smoking weed in kind. Spicoli’s mantra of “All I need are tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I’m fine,” became the motto of all kids raised in the Reagan Era.

9. Captain America (aka Wyatt) and Billy–Easy Rider (1969)

If the Beatles and Bob Dylan helped bring stoner culture into the Baby Boomers’ lexicon, Easy Rider was the movie that cemented stonerism as a necessary component of the counterculture. This was driven home in the now-classic scene where Wyatt and Billy (Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper) get country lawyer George Hanson (Jack Nicholson, in his star-making role) high for the first time (“Marijuana! Is that what that is?”), followed by George/Jack’s brilliantly stony monologue about how aliens are living and breeding among us.

8. Dave “Woody” Wooderson–Dazed and Confused (1993)

Matthew McConaughey’s character of perpetual teenager Woody Wooderson in director Richard Linklater’s homage to life in suburban Austin, TX., circa 1976, is never given a specific age, but his status as a weed connoisseur and an impressive lexicon of meme-worthy quotes (“Alright, alright, alright.” “That’s what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age.” And the pièce de résistance: “Wooderson: Say, man, you got a joint? Mitch: No, not on me, man. Wooderson: It’d be a lot cooler if you did.”) make his status as an all-time stoner champ indisputable.

7. Harold and Kumar–Harold and Kumar Trilogy (2004, 2008, 2011)

Harold and Kumar brought stonerism into the 21st century with aplomb, style and epic cases of the munchies. What began as a simple odyssey to fuel their Maryjane-induced hunger pangs, led to an epic, Candide-like tale to such exotic locales at Guantanamo, Radio City Music Hall, KKK rallies, and smoking up with such disparate characters as Santa Claus, George W. Bush and a persona-smashing incarnation of Neil Patrick Harris.

8. Sgt. Elias–Platoon (1986)

Oliver Stone’s Oscar-sweeper told a story of the Vietnam War from the grunt’s POV. One of the first things that Private Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen) sees when he arrives at his platoon’s camp is that the soldiers are clearly divided into two groups: the ultra-right wing boozers (led by psycho Sgt. Barnes, played to perfection by Tom Berenger) and the progressive rock & roll loving stoners, led by the philosophical Sgt. Elias (Willem Dafoe). I think most people can agree that there was nothing fun about the Vietnam War and the men who fought it were treated with equal contempt by the Vietnamese people and their fellow Americans upon returning home, one of the darkest chapters in our country’s history. That said, if you had to be there, deciding which camp you would have belonged to is one hell of a litmus test.

7. Ivan Martin–The Harder They Come (1972)

Perry Henzell’s story of country lad Ivan Martin (Reggae great Jimmy Cliff) who travels to big city Kingston with dreams of musical stardom is credited for single-handedly popularizing Reggae music and culture in the U.S. Of course as it deals with Rastafarian culture and people, there are epic amounts of ganja featured in this remarkable film, which has Ivan being pulled in opposite directions by crooked record producers and drug dealers, forcing him to become a criminal to survive. In the end, even the kind buds indigenous to Jamaica’s soil can’t change Ivan’s fate, but until then, what a ride!

6. Floyd–True Romance (1993)

A box office disappointment upon release that became a classic in retrospect, True Romance features a script by pre-Pulp Fiction Quentin Tarantino and a cast of actors who became a who’s-who of stars as the 1990s progressed. No one fit this bill more than Brad Pitt, whose scene-stealing supporting turn as Floyd, the uber-stoner roommate of Michael Rappaport’s Dick Ritchie, remains the film’s most memorable character, in spite of being surrounded with dozens of colorful turns by a dream cast. In fact, one could argue that Floyd’s passive stonerism is the only thing that saves him from becoming another notch on the gunbelt of ruthless mafia hitmen who lay waste to everyone else in their wake. “You guys wanna…smoke a bowl?”

5. Professor Jennings–Animal House (1978)

Donald Sutherland does a memorable loopy turn as stony college professor who turns on a few of his students one night in 1962. Tom Hulce’s monologue about universes inside fingernails remains one of the most authentic stony, pseud-intellectual monologues ever written. Sutherland’s gentle, amused demeanor throughout is priceless.

4. Carl Spackler–Caddyshack (1980)

Bill Murray’s left-of-center groundskeeper Carl is one of cinema’s most memorable oddballs, whether he’s chipping away a freshly-planted flower bed with fantasies of PGA glory, hunting terrorist gophers with plastic explosives or sharing his own strain of weed with Bushwood Country Club stalwart Ty Webb (Chevy Chase), explaining “This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sinsemilla. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff.” The classic scene between Murray and Chase was, apparently, entirely improvised on the spot. We are all the luckier for it.

3. The Dude–The Big Lebowski (1998)

Jeff Bridges’ “The Dude” is a prototypical sixties leftover who finds himself stuck in the middle of a 1990s film noir nightmare, in the Coen Brothers’ brilliant, unique satire. When the Dude isn’t swilling his signature White Russian cocktails, weed is his go-to vice of choice, which he smokes with gusto. Our favorite exchange: “Blond Treehorn Thug: [holding up a bowling ball] What the fuck is this? The Dude: Obviously you’re not a golfer.” Through it all, The Dude abides.

2. Hunter S. Thompson–Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

Director Terry Gilliam remains the only filmmaker to bring Hunter S. Thompson’s unique brand of mad brilliance to the screen with success, and what a dizzying, psychedelic masterpiece it is. Adapted from Thompson’s memoir (as his alter ego, Raoul Duke, played by Johnny Depp) detailing a cross-country road trip with attorney/comrade Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) and their search for “The American Dream,” fueled by a pharmacy of drugs and alcohol in the trunk of Duke’s car, The Red Shark. A book and a film that almost defy description, suffice to say that, according to most devoted stoners and practitioners of extreme behavior/lifestyles, no other film captures the energy, attitudes and visions of drug use better.

1. Pedro and “Man” (aka Cheech & Chong) – Up in Smoke (1978)

The most joyful depiction of stoner lifestyle ever committed to celluloid, Cheech & Chong popularized stoner humor and culture in a series of top-selling records during the 1970s, with this 1978 ode to taking it easy being their pinnacle. The plot, such as it is, has the boys unwittingly driving a van made of weed from L.A. to Mexico, with the Fascistic narc Sgt. Stedenko (Stacy Keach, hilarious) hot on their trail. Our favorite moment, which was a tough one to choose, is posted above.

Saying No to Find Our Greatest Yes

I did three crazy things today:

1) I UNsubscribed from the job ad daily alert that showed me opportunities within the government daily
2) I said NO to a potential secondment opportunity
3) I said NO to teaching yoga at a local studio for $ 30 an hour on weekday evenings

These were all scary moves for me, but very empowering. I cannot run myself thin. I cannot keep reaching out for more things instead of focusing on the key elements of a good life. I cannot keep thinking that my value lies in taking on another job or another opportunity. I must be still, do less, and allow my calling to blossom slowly but surely into what it’s meant to be.

I feel that right now in my journey, I have a dream that seems like an impossibility. It is to teach mindfulness, to find joy and balance in my own life and help others do the same. And to do this always. I keep finding excuses to run away from this dream, but it is my calling. It is what makes the world make sense for me. And I also dream of getting paid to do this at a rate that reflects my experience and worth.

While the full version of this dream may never come true, I realize today that this is not the point. We must work diligently and kindly towards our highest calling, and it is through the journey itself that we come to open to the most beautiful parts of ourselves.

As an example, this morning I buckled down and worked on jump back and jump through, one of the most elusive and difficult parts of the Ashtanga series. Before, I would sway between giving it up altogether, or powering through hoping that somehow I would attain it. But this morning, I slowed down. I broke it down. I did less poses. I stayed in the poses longer. I noticed where I am weak, without judging.

By the end of my practice, I felt stronger, closer to the impossible goal of jumping through. And it was exhilarating. Not because I will be able to jump through one day (I may or may not), but because I honoured my desire to reach further than I have before, I learned something new.

In between my shoulders, a deep sadness emerged. I cried at having tried so hard to find a job in government that reflected my truth and failing. When I stayed with the sadness and pain, I recalled a time when an old boyfriend broke up with me. I had felt like I had tried everything in my power to find love, but it wasn’t coming. Then, like now, I needed to surrender.

We move towards our goal or desire with passion, commitment and vision, but ultimately we have to let it go. We have to return to the reality that we already have everything we need, the love and purpose we desire is already within us. And ironically, when recognizing that nothing outside of us can bring us the love and purpose that we seek, we find it within ourselves, and the goals that we so desire come to us effortlessly.

For today, I embrace my greatest dreams and passions and move confidently towards them. With grace, with humility, with patience, and deep acceptance of the mystery of life.

Kim, Cosby and Kim: 2014’s Greatest Fails

MY PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER Column (12/31/2014)

2014. Wow. What a fantabulous year for humanity. Getting killed seemed to be more a crime than the act of killing. Comedy lost Robin Williams, Joan Rivers and Bill Cosby. The only one getting hit harder than a defenseless NFL quarterback was a defenseless NFL fiancé. The deadly Ebola epidemic was set to wipe out most of the U.S. population until it was miraculously thwarted away from our shores when scientists came up with the cure: November 4 mid-term election. Same-sex marriage bans were deemed illegal in 35 states tearing apart most every respectable straight marriage in those states. North Korea took over the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) film rating system and worst of all, marijuana became legal in…hey look, a cow.

Even if you do not believe good can come from bad, negative news may just be the balance in life we need to survive. As Martin Seligman Ph.D., Director of Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania said, “If we just wanted positive emotions, our species would have died out a long time ago.”

What we can learn from our missteps and adversity will many times offset the failures. While the prospect of patching up the road ahead may be bumpy, especially when you trudge through the potholes of 2014, some past wisdom may help us along the way.

I think the enemy is self-censorship. In a free society the biggest danger is that you’re afraid to the point where you censor yourself. – Tim Robbins

Sony Pictures pulled the film, The Interview, which fictionalizes the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, due to threats from North Korean hackers threatening 9-11 type attacks if the film is distributed and yet not a peep about A Haunted House 2. Would it be that the hackers knew how much more civilization is being damaged by Kevin Hart and Adam Sandler films. Now Transylvania is promising a blood bath if Vampire Academy is not pulled from Netflix.

Racism hurts everyone, including racists themselves. -DaShanne Stokes

Happy 69th Birthday Goldie Hawn! The Sexy Star’s Greatest Moments On TV And Film

Happy birthday, Goldie Hawn! Our favorite blonde bombshell turns 69 today and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than by taking a look back at her best moments over the decades.

And no — we assure you, that’s not Goldie’s lookalike daughter, Kate Hudson. Yes, Hawn and her daughter, 35, still look a lot alike — even though Goldie is nearing 70. With her feathery, blonde hair and those bright-blue doe eyes, it’s easy to see why.

Hawn originally started her career in dance, quickly landing a role in Disney’s “The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band,” where she met Kurt Russell, who would later become her long-time love. She also appeared regularly on Rowan & Martin’s “Laugh-In” in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It wasn’t long before Hollywood was taking notice of her vivacious, bubbly persona. She went on to win an Oscar for her performance in “Cactus Flower,” and enjoyed other memorable roles in films like “The First Wives Club” and “Private Benjamin.”

But Hawn’s personal life has been just as intriguing as her professional career — most notably, her long-term romance with fellow actor, Kurt Russell. They’ve been together over 30 years — a Hollywood anomaly.

She’s also, of course, known for her bombshell good looks (she posed for Playboy in the ’80s). But earlier this year, she was scrutinized for her appearance at the Oscars — with speculation that she’d gone overboard with plastic surgery.

But we’ll repeat now what we said then, Goldie, we love you just the way you are.

Charles Correa: India’s Greatest Architect

Charles Correa: India’s Greatest Architect

This book celebrates the work of India’s greatest architect, Charles Correa. Born in 1930, Correa is an Indian and international architect who, in a lifetime of achievement, has created work which is consistently beautiful, human and enduring. He played a defining role in the architecture of post-Independence India and has designed some of the most outstanding cultural and civic monuments, science institutes, schools, housing developments and new cities, based on a profound understanding of his country, s history, needs and aspirations. Correa’s work has provided inspiration for future generations of architects at a time of vertiginous population and economic growth in the region. For this, he has received many awards including Britain’s highest architectural accolade, the Royal Gold Medal in 1984. Rooted in India but educated as an architect in the United States and steeped in the modernist teachings of Le Corbusier, Correa has concentrated on the living patterns in communities where he worked, achieving remarkable results with simple but effective means. Tradition and modernity are not opposites for him. Always contemporary, he has subtly layered the history of the land and of ideas in his designs. His sources range from the railway models of his childhood to conceptions of the Cosmos and to street-hawkers’ use of the Mumbai pavements. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a remarkably consistent approach, guided by a respect for the given conditions, a desire to effect change without forced interference, and a passion to combine fitness for purpose with beauty and spirituality.

Magical Memories: The Greatest Royal Photographs of All Time

Magical Memories: The Greatest Royal Photographs of All Time

A fully updated collection of the very best of Arthur’s delightful color pictures and unique stories, including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the 2012 Olympics, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new baby In terms of royal photography, Arthur Edwards is a legend. For 30 years, he has captured the most poignant and memorable moments in the recent history of the monarchy. His images range from candid shots to intimate portraits to rare moments when protocol is put aside to reveal the true personalities behind. Princess Diana referred to him as “our Arthur” and Prince Charles introduces him to world leaders when they are on royal tours. He has been on hand to capture the blossoming romance and subsequent wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton; he was there to witness happy and loving moments at the start of Charles and Diana’s marriage; he saw Prince William’s first steps; and he was there for Prince Harry’s first day at Eton. As well as having taken momentous pictures, Arthur has fascinating stories to go with them. For example, the time when Patti Palmer-Tomkinson announced to the assembled press that her “Uncle Harry” would be joining her party–and out stepped Prince Charles wearing false glasses, nose, and moustache. Or in Liverpool when a young lad rode up to Princess Diana and asked for a kiss–and she obliged. It was also Arthur who pointed out to Prince Charles during a polo match that his fly was down–having checked with Arthur that nothing was showing, the Prince then carried on playing. This wonderful book is packed with the magical memories of someone who has been present as history and headlines have been made.

Soccer Player Hit By One Of The Greatest Paper Airplane Tosses Of All Time (VIDEO)

By Jose Martinez, Complex Sports

On Friday, Peru and England squared off in a tune-up match and the star of the night was a paper airplane. We’re not kidding.

As you can see in the above video, one fan decided to toss a pretty large paper airplane onto the pitch in the middle of the game. But what no one, including the individual throwing the object, could’ve ever foreseen was having it actually make contact with a player on the opposing team. That unfortunate honor goes to Hansell Riojas who was decked in the side of the head, much to the delight of the fans at Wembley.

Take a look.
