Mila Kunis Recalls Having ‘Fun’ with Ashton Kutcher Before Going Serious: ‘Let’s Just Hook Up’

Mila Kunis says she experienced a serious case of déjà vu with husband Ashton Kutcher back when they were starting out.

The actress, 34, recently appeared on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast where she shared some little known details about her relationship with her fellow That ’70 Show star.

“I did a movie called Friends With Benefits. He did a movie that was very similar called No Strings Attached. We lived our movies out,” the actress said. “We were just like, let’s just hook up. Let’s have fun. We’re both single. We both trust each other. Everything’s great.”

Much like the films the two starred in, what was once a casual relationship inevitably escalated to something more serious. After attempting the Friends with Benefits/No Strings Attached route, Kunis took charge when she realized her feelings for the actor after he told her about someone he was dating.

“I felt like I got punched in the gut, literally overnight,” she said on the podcast.

“I was like, you know what, I actually care about you. I don’t want to mess anything up so I’m just going to walk away before it becomes too much,” she remembered. “And he was like, ‘Got it.’ And the next day, he showed up to my house and he was like, ‘Move in with me’ and I said, ‘OK.’”

The adorable couple was destined to be together since Kutcher, 40, was Kunis’ first kiss on That ’70s Show. Kunis was only 14 when she was cast, while Kutcher was 19.

RELATED: Ashton Kutcher Dishes About First On- and Off-Screen Kisses with Mila Kunis: ‘It Was Obvious Things Were Happening’

Kunis recalled seeing Kutcher at an award show where he caught her eye years after they had worked together.

“I was looking around, and there was a really beautiful man from the back,” she said on the podcast. “I was literally like, ‘Oh, he’s kinda hot.’ … And then he turned around, and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, it’s Kutch.’ I thought it was the weirdest thing that I was checking this guy out, and it was someone that I had known forever.”

The Bad Moms star remembered telling her mom in 2012 that she and Kutcher were dating. Recently the actress told the story while on Dax Sherpard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

“We were driving up Laurel Canyon, and I was like, ‘Mom, I have to tell you, I’m dating somebody,’ ” Kunis recalled. “And she was like, ‘Oh, tell me! Who are you dating?’ And I was like, ‘You’ve got to brace yourself for this one. I’m dating Ashton Kutcher.’ And she literally was like, ‘Shut the f— up’ in Russian. I was like, ‘No, I’m serious. I also may be in love with him, so…’”

The couple married in July 2015 after getting engaged in Feb. 2014 and welcoming daughter Wyatt, 3, that October. They later also welcomed son Dimitri, 1, in Nov. 2016.

Why Kristin Cavallari Says She and Husband Jay Cutler Are ‘Done’ Having Kids

Three is the magic number for Kristin Cavallari.

“I love having three kids. I especially love having two boys and a girl — we feel like a very complete family. We’re good, we’re done,” the Very Cavallari star tells PEOPLE Now of herself and husband Jay Cutler, whose children are Saylor James, 2½, Jaxon Wyatt, 4, and Camden Jack, 6 next month.

“My daughter is 2½ and I don’t have to lug around a diaper bag anymore and all the crap,” says Cavallari, 31. “We’re finally at a really good place where we can just pick up and go.”

Continues the star, “All my kids have a little bit of independence, and we’re just in a really good place. I don’t want to go back to the diaper phase and all of that.”

Her comments echo those she made to PEOPLE in March, when she admitted she “can’t imagine having another” child.

“We just feel like such a complete family — I got my girl. Everything is just so great with it right now, why rock the boat?” explained the mother of three.

In the midst of putting a hold on expanding their family, the couple, who reside in Nashville, is in awe of how much time has gone by parenting their kids. “Everyone’s just growing up too fast,” Cavallari said.

And more children undoubtedly would come with more unsolicited comments from other parents. As The Hills alum told PEOPLE in May about dealing with haters, she “really give a s—” about anyone who critiques her parenting style.

“I’m so confident at what I’m doing as a mom that I don’t care,” explained the True Roots cookbook author.

Mom Of Boys Has Epic Reaction To Learning She’s Having A Girl

A Kansas City mom is going viral because of her strong reaction to learning the sex of her unborn baby.

On Sunday, blogger Egreis Gjergjani posted a video from her “gender reveal” party on Instagram. Egreis and her husband Jeremy ― who have two sons, ages 1 and 3 ― cut into a cake and found that the frosting was pink for a baby girl.

As the video shows, the expectant mom was floored … literally.

And I'll end up as a meme somewhere. Fml! We're having a GIRL!!!!!

A video posted by Egreis Gjergjani (@thestilettomeup) on

Egreis’ Instagram video has been viewed nearly 700,000 times.

She told The Huffington Post she and her husband weren’t planning to have any more children after their “two amazing sons,” and this third pregnancy was a total surprise.

“Since I’ve had two boys so far, I genuinely did not think I would have a girl,” the mom said. “I even started a children’s couture line, Itty Bitty Toes, that specializes in handmade dresses for little girls. It was my way of experiencing what having a little girl would be like.”

It's official!!!! Egi is having a GIRL #girl #suchasurprise #soexcited #thanksforthecakemom

Learning that she would soon have a “mini me” to dress in her designs was “an unbelievable feeling,”  she added.

Egreis posted two other videos from the party. One shows the moment before the big reveal and the other shows a prank her friend played on her. Egreis and her husband thought they were going to learn the sex of their baby with a balloon reveal, but it turns out the balloons were pink and blue.

“My best friend is evil lol,” the mom wrote in the video caption.

A video posted by Egreis Gjergjani (@thestilettomeup) on

Egreis, who is originally from Albania, is due in June. She said she’s been touched by the kind comments from strangers who watched her big reveal video.

“So many of them have shared tears of joy with me,” she said. “That’s the beauty of humanity. To be able to relate to another human being, without ever knowing them, simply because you can feel the happiness through a video.”

Egreis has enjoyed re-watching the video and looking at her son George’s reaction. “He knows mommy is having a baby but had no idea really what was going on,” she explained. “He just thought we were celebrating something with cake … I laugh when I see George’s face the entire time. He’s just so confused, wondering what is wrong with the cake!”

Ultimately, Egreis says the source of her joy is simple “To be able to carry a child is a blessing, she said, adding, “That initial discovery of your child’s gender is an amazing feeling. It doesn’t matter if it is boy or girl, just that initial moment of knowing what you’re going to have makes it all so real.”

Beyonce pregnant: Couple ‘blessed’ to be having twins

Beyonce and husband Jay Z say “our family will be growing by two”, in an Instagram post.
BBC News – Entertainment & Arts

SPECIAL DISCOUNT UPDATE:

Is Beyoncé Having a Boy and a Girl? The Hidden Clues in Her Surprise Twin Pregnancy Announcement

Beyoncé only just announced that she’s pregnant with twins, and already the internet is looking for clues as to the sexes of the new additions.

The 35-year-old singer — already mom to 5-year-old daughter Blue Ivy — shared Wednesday that she and husband Jay Z‘s family would be “growing by two.”

“We would like to share our love and happiness,” she captioned a photo of herself on Instagram. “We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes.”

The picture features an underwear-clad Beyoncé kneeling in front of an overflowing wreath of flowers, rubbing her baby belly.

But internet sleuths looking into the serene shot may have found some hidden clues that reveal the sex of Beyconé’s two upcoming bundles of joy.

They point to the small pink bow on her calloped embroidered tulle Agent Provocateur bra — which could indicate that one of Bey’s babies is a girl.

The next clue? Beyoncé’s powder blue Dauphine panty bottoms by Liviara — which could suggest that the other baby is a boy.

Either way, there’s no doubt Beyoncé will be a loving mom. She told Elle in 2016 about the joy motherhood brings her. “I just want my child to be happy and healthy and have the opportunity to realize her dreams,” she said.

Though usually private about her life with Jay Z, 47, Beyoncé previously talked about the joy she felt the first time she conceived — a pregnancy that, sadly, ended in miscarriage.

“Being pregnant was very much like falling in love,” Beyoncé revealed in her 2013 HBO documentary Life Is But a Dream. “You are so open. You are so overjoyed. There’s no words that can express having a baby growing inside of you, so of course you want to scream it out and tell everyone.”

WATCH: Embracing the Mystery (Not Having All the Answers)

It can be very frustrating when we don’t know what to do… how to handle certain situations… what the future might bring. But, that’s how life is sometimes – we’re never going to know everything (unless you are Dr. Bernofsky…). So, we can let that be a source of energy-draining upset, or we can accept it. Maybe even embrace it. I hope this will help you do so.

If you are new to tapping, it will be beneficial to also watch the first episode in the “Tap Out Your Fears” series — which explains the basics of EFT — click here.

As with any of my tapping videos, this is an abbreviated process for releasing uncomfortable feelings and enhancing good ones. Some folks may find their fear dissolve after just one tapping session, but for others, it will take some repetition, bringing the discomfort down little by little each time. (Still others may uncover specific issues that are best addressed directly with a wellness practitioner.) In any event, this brief video should help at least take the edge off the discomfort, freeing you up to enjoy life much more. Let us know how it helped you!

Why Having 100 Items Of Clothing In Your Closet Is ‘Not Enough’

Getting dressed is the worst, but since it’s not socially acceptable to walk around without pants all the time, it’s a necessary evil.

In a fun study done by Closetmaid, 1,000 U.S. women were surveyed on their closets, and apparently the average American woman has roughly 103 items of clothing.

Despite this, it never feels like what we have is cutting it. We stand in front of the mirror, murmuring to ourselves how the lighting at Loft was slimming and we should just never go out in public again.

Now, 103 items is sort of a lot, but let’s be real: We probably try on half of those things the second we get invited to a party. It’s why we have those heaping piles of worn-once-or-twice sweaters and disposable dresses from Forever 21 on the chair in our bedrooms. It’s also why, at the end of all the trying-things-on-and-then-abandoning-them, 61 percent of women just go out and buy something new.

So, if your skin is red and raw from all the sweat and tears exhausted from simply trying to make yourself look presentable, don’t fret! You’re not alone.

We get your clothes woes — check out the rest of the stats here:

A Ridiculous Number Of People Are Having Sex At The Gym

Welp, looks like there’s another benefit to going to the gym. Nearly 25 percent of British gym-goers have had sex at their place of fitness, according to a recent survey.

More than half of those surveyed said they’ve used the gym as a place to hook up, while 10 percent said they stash a condom in their gym bag.

The online survey of 2,000 people was conducted by sex shop Ann Summers – not exactly a perfect method of data collection. Still, an eyebrow-raising 20 percent of responders have done the deed with their personal trainers. Even if they never consummated, 70 percent of women admitted to fantasizing about their personal trainers while having sex.

This news is a bit unsettling, considering the petri dish that is the gym, where staph, E. coli, candida and other bacteria are prevalent. Not exactly sexy.

Of course, exercise increases a person’s blood flow, which can put them more in the mood. Sweating, which we are wont to do at the gym, also increases the release of pheromones, the chemical that attracts potential partners through scent.

Do what you do, people.

10 Reasons Why Having Your Campaign Poster Photo-Shopped Is A Good Thing

It’s election time in Canada and the Liberal Party of Canada has a new look for their campaign posters. They’ve been getting a lot of attention, particularly this modification of the candidate for Quebec’s LaSalle-Émard-Verdun riding’s poster, David Lametti.

2015-08-19-1439996483-8493487-LamettiGowron.PNG

Yup, that’s the Klingon leader Gowron, the son of M’Rel and the leader of the Klingon Empire. Quite the comparison!

Lametti’s been having fun with the attention this has been getting (the man who first created the poster even has a twitter handle: @liberalgowron), and so I thought I’d ask him, in the vein of David Letterman, to give us his Top 10 Reasons Why Having Your Campaign Poster Photo-Shopped is a Good thing. Here are his answers:

10. The photo-shopped posters create dialogue. People are talking about our posters, and the Liberals invite debate, discussion and dialogue.

9. People are more creative with our posters than with the other parties. Our posters are not bland, they stand out. With that we get people who will either love them or hate them, and people are at least being creative and interactive with the liberal posters, instead of just ignoring them like the NDP or Conservative ones.

8. The humour decreases the intensity of the poster. Some people have commented that the posters look too intense. I don’t agree with that, but having some fun with them certainly balances that out.

7. Having more and better hair than I’ve had before.

6. Free publicity. Thanks @liberalgowron

5. It shows that the Liberal team has a sense of humour. We take this in stride and laugh about it.

4. Ups Canada’s potential for a strategic alliance with the Romulans.

3. My former students would say I’m a tough marker but at least I’m not a Klingon.

2. Comic con’s been calling.

1. I’d still vote for a Klingon over Prime Minister Harper.

Maybe he’ll live long and prosper.

Just FYI, Russell Wilson And Ciara Aren’t Having Sex

We haven’t heard that much about Russell Wilson and Ciara’s relationship, until now.

The pair, who made their public debut as a couple back in April as they walked the red carpet at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner together, were rumored to have ended their romance as soon as it started. But it turns out that’s not the case. In a Q&A with San Diego pastor Miles McPherson at The Rock Church on Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback got really, really candid about the couple’s sex life, or lack therof

“He has anointed both of us and I know that he’s calling for us to do something miraculous,” Wilson said. “I told her … If you can really love somebody without that, then you can really love somebody.”

Wilson was talking about not having sex, just in case that wasn’t totally clear.

He said the 29-year-old singer agreed with him, adding, “I ain’t gonna lie to y’all now. I need y’all to pray for us! I know you seen her on the screen … If there’s a 10, she’s a 15. Pray for me. Keep my mind clear. Keep my heart clear.”

Good to know. Also good to know: Wilson, 26, was previously married to Ashton Meem, whom he divorced in 2014, while Ciara was previously engaged to rapper Future, with whom she has a 1-year-old son, Future Zahir Wilburn

Making Therapy Work for You: Have Your Feelings Without Your Feelings Having You

I’ve noticed that most people come in to therapy with some preconception about what to do with their feelings in session: Some believe that venting will help them to heal, others feel that it will be most helpful to remain distanced from their feelings so that they can analyze them. They’re both right. And they’re both wrong. It’s the use of both of these modes in alternation that’s most helpful — though I think that there are better ways to describe them than “venting” and “analyzing.”

We need to value our feelings and use them rather than trying to get rid of them through either venting or analyzing. I’ve found that the best way to do this is to let feelings rise into consciousness, fully experience them, contain them and learn from them, and then decide what to do about them. This means expressing feelings without reacting to them impulsively, and then making conscious decisions about how to live based on what we learn from them.

This whole process could take minutes or years. Some feelings take a long time to fully rise into conscious, and to be fully experienced and fully understood. Others emerge quickly.

This brings up a common misconception about the best way to handle feelings. Many people confuse repression with suppression: Repression is an unconscious way of avoiding disturbing feelings. Suppression, on the other hand, is a healthier tactic in which we make a conscious decision not to focus on something that we already understand. Once you have some sense of why you worry needlessly about something, for instance, it makes perfect sense to delay worrying about that issue, quarantining it until Saturday morning from 10:15 until 10:40 if you need to. It’s not necessarily bad to put a feeling aside if you already understand what you have to learn from it.

One reason that it’s important to carefully explore feelings as they occur in the session is that we often have layers of feeling, and the obvious layer may not be the most significant one: anxiety may sit on top of anger or sadness, and anger may easily cover fear.

Anne, for instance, was furious that her cousin Sandra cancelled her trip to visit her. She knew that Sandra had some serious problems that made it almost impossible to visit, so she could try to be reasonable about it and avoid the feeling rather than lambasting someone who really didn’t deserve it. But she also knew that she tended to become resentful or explode later when she did that. Instead she decided to sit with the feeling, describe it, hold it, see how it felt in her body, and notice the feelings of sadness and fear underneath. She eventually realized that she was very afraid of being alone and forgotten, an old feeling that had little to do with her cousin, and much to do with her past and the way she treated herself. She decided that she needed to make an effort to nurture her relationships with people who had made themselves available, but with whom she hadn’t followed through. And that she needed to thoughtfully and more regularly “visit” her own feelings rather than ignoring them or reacting to them impulsively. This was just one in a series of episodes in which she learned to regulate her affect, to have her feelings without her feelings having her.

Some people have difficulty accessing feeling at all. If this is the case for you, you’ll need to slow down and focus. Focus on the body to see what you can learn from it. Focus on any seemingly insignificant reactions you have toward your therapist. Focus on the incidents during your week in which you felt the greatest degree of happiness or sadness. It’s like slowing down a video to watch the details in slow motion. Or to use an auditory metaphor instead, it’s like a radio signal that’s very faint. You’ll need clear everything else away and listen carefully at first. As you come to identify and recognize the signals, they’ll eventually be easier to hear.

One sure way to sabotage the effectiveness of your therapy is to engage in avoidant and addictive behavior — behavior that allows you to temporarily evade disturbing feelings. If you start to feel something in your session, but then drown it in a binge of drinking, eating or shopping, you won’t get as much from the process. This is not to say that you have to wait to get over your addiction before you begin therapy, but that you may need to focus on the addiction in the early part of your process.

Emotions have a communicative aspect to them — they want something to be witnessed. I’m stressing your response to your own emotions here, but I also want to be clear that there is no substitute for having your emotions seen and empathically received by someone else — in this case your therapist. But they can’t do that if you don’t let them see what you’re going through.

Finally, as we improve our relationship with our difficult feelings, we also find that we can savor the pleasurable ones more easily. And that makes the process of psychotherapy even more worthwhile.

This is the third post in a series about how clients can most effectively use their time in psychotherapy. For an introduction see my post 10 Tips to Make Therapy Work for You, and for a complete description of 10 these tools see my book: I’m Working On It In Therapy.

The Problem With Having Your Life All Mapped Out

I never imagined that I would be 43 and single.

After all, I had my life all mapped out. I was voted Most Likely to Succeed and Best Hair in my small Minnesota High School; I was going places. I was going to graduate from college with honors, naturally, and get a high-powered, high-paying job, buy a house, meet an exceptional guy by the time I was 25 and get married soon after and have a couple of kids before I turned 30 and started to get old.

Things started out according to plan. I did have good hair. I did graduate from college with honors. did have a decent career run going. I bought my first house at age 24. I did meet an exceptional guy and married him at age 26. I had my son when I was 28, twin girls at 30. But just as I was pulling out of newborn twin haze and getting ready to ease into the-rest-of-my-fabulous-life, the wheels came off (my husband was a cyclist). My marriage imploded, my life fell apart and I was suddenly a single mom at age 32 who hadn’t worked since I got married. I had turned into the woman I made fun of when I was young, single, unencumbered and knew everything.

And while that was not very funny to me at the time, I can see a lot of humor in it now. I have grown up in a million ways and can’t imagine my evolution happening on any other path. It’s amazing what some time (OK, fine, a decade) and a little perspective (and therapy) can do.

I joke with my friends that it’s not freaking funny to be dating, perhaps seen naked for the first time, precisely when the body is starting to shift and melt. When you shift and melt with your longtime love, they knew you back in the day, so they see you through a filter of loving timelessness. Or maybe their eyesight is fading too? They know that your soft tummy and breasts were caused by the stretch of growing their beautiful babies, or the lines by your eyes are the product of shared laughs, vacation sun or squinting together into the future. To be middle-aged and single can be rather awkward, especially if you can’t laugh about it. We want to date men our own age, but they often go for a second round start up, only to wind up in the exact same place a few years later. If we go younger we’re cougars, and if we go older we’re trophies. Everyone judges everyone as hastily as the swipe of a Tinder finger. Book, Cover. I think I already read you. Sometimes married women don’t think about this when they feel restless and unappreciated, curious about the other side.

I call this the Greener Grass phenomenon.

It’s basically the same thing women have done throughout history. Curly-haired girls want straight hair, while straight-locked girls use curlers. Tall girls slouch and short girls wear heels; brunettes bleach their hair and blondes go Goth; flat girls get implants and big ta-tas get reductions; young girls dress too old and middle-aged mamas dress too young; fair-skinned maidens bake in the sun and leather ladies get dermabrasion; smart girls play dumb and dumb girls act smart. We wait and wonder about puberty and later wax everything off and get our tubes tied.

We are in a constant, futile cycle of thinking the grass is always greener.

Some married women complain that their husbands are controlling; they want sex all the time or else they are boring in bed; they don’t help around the house or with the kids; they are married to their jobs or to their cell phones. Married gals get sick of cooking dinner, attending or hosting functions, taking the kids to church alone, being weekend widows to golfers, hunters or workout fanatics or asking a hundred times for something to be done or fixed and finally paying somebody else to do it. They are tired of having to run everything past someone else, as if they were an employee and unable to make plans or find solutions without an approval process.

They wonder what it would be like to feel like “that” again. The rush of emotion, nervousness and excitement that comes with the first blush of love (or lust, really, I mean, c’mon). They miss the way their heart skips a beat when he calls and the miraculous five-pound weight loss from lack of appetite (best diet ever). I contend that it isn’t so much the way a woman feels about a man that creates this much flurry, but more the way a man can make a woman feel about herself. Married women miss this. They often feel unseen.

I think marriage has taken a major hit from technology. Think about it. Years ago, if a man wanted to perv out with porn, he had to drive at night to some godforsaken place near the airport with a neon sign and boarded up windows and creep in there like a cretin. Today, he can just peek over his shoulder to make sure she’s got the kids in the tub and surf the web for any kind of sleaze. It’s totally accessible and seemingly without consequence. The same goes for bored or lonely wives with the advent of Facebook. The last thing a neglected wife needs is to reconnect with her high school flame. Are you kidding me? That is the relational equivalent of throwing a grenade at a gas station. We can send emails, Facebook messages, tweets and texts from the perceived safety of our screen, peeking coyly behind it like a Googling geisha. It seems innocent enough at the time, but whether it’s instant porn or instant messaging, it’s all immediate gratification and it all escalates until it’s not so innocent anymore.

So in classic greener grass mentality, married women miss the rush and single women miss the blah. I miss sleeping like spoons with someone whose arm fits over my waist as comfortably as my blanket. Someone whose sleeping sounds are as familiar to me as the songs on an overplayed CD from my college years. I miss Sunday afternoons and evenings when doing nothing together constitutes a very fine plan. I miss rummaging around for dinner fixings and deciding at the last minute to order takeout instead. I miss the banter over coffee, the crossing paths with a fly by kiss, the bed head hair, the bickering, the person reading over my shoulder, the safe, soft place to lean on the airplane, the dreams and plans. I miss somebody worrying if I’m late. I miss the smell of shaving cream and tiny flecks of hair in the sink. I miss getting bored and trying to spice things up. I miss being a family.

See, dating is nothing like this. Dating is more like frosting with no cupcake.

I can admit that it’s nice sometimes to have cereal for dinner or shave my legs when I feel like it, or discipline or love my children consistently — my way. I can decide how I spend my money, my vacations and my free time. I have a lot of freedom. But I think it’s possible to have that kind of freedom within the confines of relationship, when it’s the right relationship. I used to watch my babysitter plop on the sofa with my kids while they ate pizza and watched Animal Planet as I was about to leave on a date and I’d wish that I could pay my sitter to go on my date instead. I wanted to snuggle and watch TV with my kids while she determined if the guy was a chump or worth missing a night with my peeps. I wonder if there are rates for that sort of thing? Let’s face it, the guy for me would likely rather stay home and eat pizza and watch Animal Planet, too.

It’s ironic that a married woman might sit on her sofa, eating pizza and watching cable with her family and seethe or pine to be doing something else, someplace else, with someone else.

The whole greener grass mentality is loaded and somewhat dangerous. We peek across the fence into each other’s yards and we wonder. We see lush green grass and we are too far away to notice the weeds, or the water bill. Sometimes greener grass is just rye grass; green for a season, then gone.

It’s good to remember that our own gardens are worth tending.

Why Having Two Bachelorettes is Degrading

As an avid fan of The Bachelor, I’d be the first to tell you how much I love the show, but Monday night’s Bachelorette announcement may have converted me to a non-believer.

My friends and I gathered around the TV waiting to hear the announcement for the next bachelorette, bantering back and forth about who Chris Harrison (and ultimately ABC) would choose for the next season of the show.

We shook our legs in anticipation while we stared at the screen, and Chris Harrison finally geared up for the announcement. With giant smile on his face, he finally made his big announcement: “For the first time in Bachelorette history, we’re going to have two bachelorettes.” You’re probably thinking that any normal Bachelorette fan would be stoked about this. Wrong. I was so aggravated. In fact, I was almost offended.

In case you’re not a fan of the TV series, I’ll give you a quick breakdown: The Bachelor consists of 25 women competing for one man, and The Bachelorette consists of 25 men competing for one women. Yes, the whole concept of the series is already a little messed up, but when you throw in this recent curveball, everything becomes even more skewed.

After making the announcement, Chris Harrison then elaborated on the process, explaining how it would work. “The 25 men, on night one, are going to have the ultimate say about who they think will make the best wife.” Last time I checked, The Bachelorette is meant to leave the decision and the power in the hands of the woman. When did ABC decide that it was fair to take this power away from them and hand it over to the male candidates? Not cool. I wasn’t the only one who was aggravated. Not only did ABC receive backlash from their viewers and number one fans, but they also received backlash from news channels around the world.

If you ask me, this is terrible timing. We’re living in a society where the media is clearly experiencing backlash for promoting what is considered to be unhealthy ideals for woman. In a world where we, as women, are all already comparing ourselves to one another, the last thing we need is an emphasis on this unfair comparison, and that’s exactly what this Bachelorette announcement did.

Women all around the world are feeling the pressure to be perfect, and when a popular television show takes two beautiful women and makes 25 men decide who would “make a better wife” (after one day of meeting), that doesn’t exactly send a positive message.

So what can we do about it? Well, for one, I’m thinking about boycotting The Bachelorette and skipping out on watching it next season. As women in today’s society, it’s important that we don’t compare ourselves to one another, but rather we support each other and lift each other up.

When you find that you’re comparing yourself to someone, take a second to realize how different we all are. Clearly ABC didn’t take this universal love into consideration when they decided to put two women up against each other in a competition for something that they’ve decided to call “love.”

What’s your opinion on the decision to have two bachelorettes next season?

Why Do We Like Having Sex with Artists?

Art is having a strange moment right now. The market today is a business, pure and simple — a depraved scramble for big money; it’s as much about the businessmen, financiers, and lawyers as it is about the artists and their work. I’m not the only one who’s noticed that. There seem to be a lot of young people in New York today making “art,” simply because being an artist is cool, and because of the title’s apparent link to money, power, and, well, … sex. But just because you have blue hair and an experimental Instagram doesn’t mean I want to fuck you — quite the opposite, in fact, especially if it means getting on the J train to deep Bushwick.

The Inevitable Result Of Having A Sunday Wedding During Football Season

If you schedule your wedding for a Sunday during football season, you’re pretty much asking for this:

Bride Selina and groom Daniel made the grave mistake of getting married during the Seattle Seahawks versus Denver Broncos game on September 21. In the photo above, captured by photographer Jerome Tso, two Hawks fans share a celebratory fist bump.

“They did not know that they were being photographed,” Tso told The Huffington Post via email. “I was behind the altar photographing the procession and saw them watching the phone. After they fist bumped, one of them saw me and smiled, knowing that I caught them.”

Hey, at least it wasn’t during the vows.

Rain on Your Wedding Day: A True Life Story of Having to Execute ‘Plan B’ Twice Last Weekend

Every wedding should have a “Plan B” for inclement weather. Unless your wedding ceremony, cocktails and reception are all planned to be held entirely inside, you just can’t risk not having alternative arrangements in place should Mother Nature decide to play a dirty trick on your wedding day.

Even if you’re all inside, you still need to be prepared with extra umbrellas and a dressing plan if it becomes not feasible to dress at home because the rain is so torrential.

I know, I know… I’m talking about one of those taboo subjects you’re not supposed to talk about – rain on the wedding day. But it happens. Here in the Caribbean, we often have short sprinkle showers throughout the day that don’t affect the evening’s activities at all, but we don’t wait to see what happens. If I plan a wedding that doesn’t have enough interior space to host all of the wedding events, we must have a backup plan and enough tenting to cover everybody if a three-minute torrential downpour happens. Even though it’s short and sweet, soaking wet dinner tables and wedding guests make for a miserable evening.

You wouldn’t believe how many of my brides and grooms actually argue with me about tenting at their venues, even when I made it clear at the time they chose it that it would have be in place to cover the guests and give us something to hang the lighting on for the reception. It’s something I absolutely, positively will not back down about. You hired me to plan your “dream wedding” and I can’t do that if we’re looking for snorkel gear for your guests at 9 pm on a Saturday night.

I wish I didn’t have a recent nightmare story to tell – but I do. Two of them actually. Just this past weekend. But because we had a “Plan B,” everything turned out alright. I hope other brides and grooms reading this will take my words to heart and learn from my experience.

Last weekend, I had two weddings back to back here on Vieques Island. We’ve had beautiful weather for weeks and the sudden tropical wave of rain that ambushed us midweek was incredible. We were socked in for a couple of days, but you never know how fast it will change back to sunshine the same way it can turn into rain in a blink.

The most important thing for a wedding couple to remember during their wedding weekend is that as long as they continue smiling and having a good time, regardless of the weather, their family and friends will keep smiling too. And that’s the moral of the two intermingled stories I’m about to tell you about two amazing couples who never stopped smiling last weekend. Hence, they both had a fabulous wedding weekend despite the weather.

Jacquie and Tim from Philly got married on Friday, following two days of activities that included a beach party pig roast on Thursday. Mother Nature smiled on the bride and groom and gave them amazing weather for their beach party on Thursday – a pretty enough day for everybody to get some tan and quite a few to get pink. But the entire group had a blast and enjoyed the pig on the beach. That night, it started to rain.

I never sleep well the night before a wedding if it’s raining – it’s just automatic for me as a wedding planner. My job is to take on the stress and worry for the bride so she can keep having fun. And to keep reminding her it’s going to be all good because we have a “Plan B” if we need it. And this time we did.

In almost eight years of wedding planning, I don’t think I’ve ever been so wet for such a long period of time. Despite the torrential rain on Friday morning, we set up for the wedding (inside and outside) as though the weather would, in fact, be clear by the time of the beach ceremony planned for 4 pm. Jacquie was pretty insistent that she wanted that beach ceremony unless it was a deluge and I planned to give her that. Mother Nature was not on the same page despite my pleading emails to her.

Stacy and Darwin from the Boston area were getting married on Saturday, so their rehearsal dinner/beach party picnic was on Friday during the monsoon. After setting up at Jacquie’s villa, I hightailed it down to the beach for Stacy’s party and the whole thing just broke my heart. When my staff is freezing and dying before the guests even arrive, it’s not a good beach day.

But the guests arrived and the bride and groom kept smiling and they had fabulous lunch and a LOT of margaritas to keep them warm. The father of the bride sent big compliments to the caterers. Horrible weather but still a great party. Yes, we had a tent set up for them at the beach. Just in case. Thank God.

Meanwhile, I had to make a judgment call on Jacquie and Tim’s wedding and by 1pm it was obvious we were going to have to move things inside their villa. Fortunately, the wedding venue was big enough to hold the entire crew for the reception activities and nobody would be sloshing around outside under a tent. Which was a good thing since it was raining sideways by the time the bride went down the aisle and we were about five miles per hour from having the little tempest declared an official Tropical Storm.

I contacted all the vendors and told them to switch locations. I called in extra staffing and asked everybody to arrive at the villa as fast as they could. We had to remove every piece of furniture from the ginormous great room and hide it all inside a downstairs bedroom. The rugs got rolled up. The tables and sofas were moved. I converted the TV room into the bar and DJ station and the dining room into mission control for our team (which worked great since they were having a cheesecake buffet for wedding cake and that couldn’t be displayed to the guests until after dinner anyway or it would melt).

We set up the ceremony in the great room because the very large covered porch was not immune to the gusting wind and rain. The backdrop for the pictures was a huge glass window facing the water – so you can see they’re in the Caribbean – it just looks like they got married during a hurricane. We nicknamed it “Hurricane Jacquie” because the bride had suffered through horrible weather for all of her pre-wedding events as well. There was a jinx on her I never figured out – she was sweet as can be and maintained a great attitude throughout.

The ceremony was beautiful and everybody was dry (except our staff) and then we quickly converted the great room into the dining room while the guests mingled and enjoyed cocktails and passed appetizers. I love this picture of the bride and groom from their balcony just after the ceremony – I think the umbrellas say it all. 2014-11-10-JaclynandTimwithumbrellasEA.jpg

After dinner, the tables disappeared and the dancing continued for the remainder of the reception. Some of the boys even braved the rain to go out to the bar cabana and enjoy cigars. Nobody – and I mean NOBODY – was letting rain dampen their spirits (pun intended). The bride and groom loved their wedding and thanked us profusely. We thanked them for being good sports and leading such a happy attitude for their entire group. Sure, the bride was disappointed she didn’t get to exchange vows on the beach, but nobody could have seen that from the way she was behaving in front of the guests. I adore her. And the groom was a doll too and so much fun all night!

It rained all night – and again, I didn’t sleep. Mentally, I couldn’t process having two beach weddings move to “Plan B” within 24 hours. I mean, I knew I could do it, but I didn’t want to break another bride’s heart. I also knew my staff was dying. Everything takes longer in the pouring rain. We have to be 100 percent more careful since all the posh multi-million dollar villas have expensively tiled floors that are like ice rinks when wet. I didn’t think we even had time to dry all the towels still soaking wet from the floors the night before.

Dawn brought sunshine and I bounced out of bed with renewed energy. Oh yes, I brought all our rain gear – but that was to scare away the rain. If you’re not prepared, you’re guaranteed to get screwed. And this time it worked. That and listening to Rihanna’s “Umbrella” over and over again to scare away the rain.

The clouds drifted by our island all day making me nervous, but at ceremony time, the weather was lovely and the sky was clear. Their beach ceremony was gorgeous and we only had a little bit of drizzle for a short period when they were sitting down under the covered porch for dinner anyway, so it didn’t hurt the party. I love this amazing picture of bride and groom Stacy and Darwin on the beach after dinner – this sky tells the whole story. It’s hard to believe it wasn’t raining. 2014-11-10-StacyandDarwinonthebeachatnightEA.jpg

Seems Mother Nature finally received my desperate requests. I’m guessing she had a backup of email from other panicked Caribbean wedding planners and just missed my message about Jacquie’s wedding. She got it for Stacy and Darwin’s wedding, thank God!!! They were such a wonderful couple too and they deserved beautiful weather after their soaked beach party.

What’s the moral of the story? Rain doesn’t ruin your wedding day if you have a “Plan B.” No, you might not have the exact wedding that you planned and you may have to be flexible and adjust your expectations, but only you can ruin your wedding day, not the weather.

My brides and grooms (both couples) never let their guests see them sweat. They never whined. They didn’t complain (except gently, in private, to me – and they were entitled!). Because both couples kept smiling, so did their guests. Granted, Stacy and Darwin lucked out with the wedding day after a horrifically wet beach party, but I think that was good karma for their great attitudes the day before at the beach.

Keep smiling and your guests will keep smiling with you. At the end of the day, you’re married and you’ll have a fabulous wedding day as long as you’ve got that “Plan B” ready to roll if you need it.

Until next time, happy wedding planning from Weddings in Vieques and Sandy Malone Weddings & Events!

If Everyone Was This Honest During Sex, No One Would Be Having Sex

Here’s a terrifying thought: What if no one was concerned with being polite during sex and instead said exactly what they were thinking?

In the video above, BuzzFeed gives us a glimpse of just how awkward sex would be if that were to happen. Some of the cringiest admissions? “This isn’t my O face. This is my holding-in-a-fart face” — and the one thing no man wants to hear right before sexy time begins: “Oh, cool penis!”

Shudders.

New Discovery: Having a Life Purpose Keeps You ‘Stayin’ Alive!’

In the “all things are connected” department, a large-scale longitudinal study has found that people who have a sense of purpose live longer. The research, published in the journal Psychological Science, found that those who had died over the course of the study had reported lower purpose in life and fewer positive relations than did survivors.

Summarized in a report from the Association for Psychological Science, the study also found that having a life purpose consistently predicted lower mortality risk across the lifespan, whether for younger, middle-aged, or older participants.

According to the lead researcher, Patrick Hill, the findings indicate that creating “a direction for life, and setting overarching goals for what you want to achieve can help you actually live longer, regardless of when you find your purpose.” The study examined data from more than 6,000 people, including their self-reported level of purpose in life, across a 14-year follow-up period.

The study also found that a sense of purpose had similar benefits regardless of retirement status, a known mortality risk factor. And, that the longevity benefits of life purpose held up even after other indicators of well-being, such as positive relations and positive emotions, were taken into account. “These findings suggest that there’s something unique about finding a purpose that seems to be leading to greater longevity,” says Hill.

Can You Create a Sense of Purpose?
I think he’s right, but it’s more likely that they are interwoven factors: A sense of purpose is likely inseparable from a positive spirit about living, which infuses both physical and emotional wellbeing over the long-run.

So how can you create a sense of purpose within today’s turbulent, often confusing world? Most people acknowledge there are “parts” of themselves — desires, imaginative capacities — that remain stifled or dormant. Family experiences and conditioning into your beliefs and values often result in a limited, constricted definition of who you are. For example, I often see people who are outwardly successful in their work or relationships, yet feel hollow or unfulfilled. They report feeling “off-track” in some way, or incomplete. They ask if they’ve been on the “wrong” path — the wrong career, the wrong life partner. This reveals their longing for a meaningful sense of purpose in life.

You always retain the ability to open your consciousness to what you want to really live for. Purpose is different from “happiness,” which fluctuates with daily life events. It’s more of an underlying sense of fulfillment, a feeling of integration and direction that transcends life’s disappointments or successes, even. When you’re living in accordance with your life’s purpose, the above fluctuations are simply what you will encounter along the road. They don’t distract you from your larger vision, beckoning you.

Those who have a sense of purpose share some common themes. One is that they aren’t very preoccupied with self-interest, their ego-investments in what they do. Another is that they use their mental and creative energies to serve something larger than themselves. Here are some ways you can learn from them and work towards discovering your own purpose.

Back Off and Tune Inward
Your purpose might be right in front of your eyes but you don’t see it, like looking for your missing keys when they’re in plain sight. Back off to a larger perspective, from outside yourself, and look inward. You might recognize an inclination or leaning that’s always been inside you. Reflect on whether it meshes with what you’ve been doing in your way of life and commitments. Do the latter serves something of meaningful value to you, over the long-run?

Learn From Your Choices and Their Consequences
Your “successes” or “failures” over the years tell you where you’ve been in harmony with yourself — or not. That’s a good indicator of your life purpose because both your good and bad life experiences are lessons: They teach you what you’ve been trying to express throughout your life, directly or indirectly. They can reveal your longings, your inner vision, and show where you’ve gotten “off-track” from your true purpose.

Get on the Path
When you feel a pull towards something more in synch with who you are, internally, pursue it vigorously, with great intent, whether it’s something material or spiritual. Different ways of life embody one’s purpose, for different people. But always look for the feedback your actions give yourself, for guidance. You’ll learn from that feedback if it’s the true path for you or not.

Stretch Yourself
Build momentum towards your emerging sense of purpose by stretching yourself towards it. Create a vision of what it looks like. Imagine it’s a powerful magnet that’s pulling you along a path towards it. Identify what you can do each day that brings you closer. Trust what your heart tells you, especially when your mind says otherwise (“No, you shouldn’t go there; you can’t do it; you won’t be able to learn how”).

Pursue It With Love

Infuse your actions with a spirit of giving, of service. In effect, with love. When expressing your life purpose, think of yourself as giving love for its own sake, without regard for seeking to be loved back or looking for a “return on investment.” Just pursue your purpose with a sense of giving to it, for itself.

The Sufi spiritual leader Hazrat Inayat Khan, who brought his teachings to the U.S. and Europe in the early 1900s, described awakening to your purpose in an interesting way. He wrote that one:

… may suddenly think during the night, “I must go to the north,” and in the morning, he sets out on his journey. He does not know why, he does not know what he is to accomplish there, he only knows that he must go. By going there, he finds something that he has to do and sees that it was the hand of destiny pushing him towards the accomplishment of that purpose which inspired him to go to the “north.”

Seeking your purpose in the form of something larger than yourself, that beckons you, while keeping short-term self-interest at bay, makes you more likely to find and fulfill it — while living a long, healthier life.

15 Secrets to Having the Best Perspective on Life

I sometimes believe that our greater culture likes being overly negative and pessimistic. We love over-criticizing everything, having no hope for beautiful things and losing fond admiration for the silly, whimsical aspects of life. It’s an attitude that I believe is corrupting our capability to strive for greatness in our lives.

Truth is, if you want to be great in this life, you have to model that greatness in your thinking.

You have to open your eyes up to the beauty in front of you and celebrate it. Only then will we be in the right mindset to enact change in our culture.

So here are 15 secrets that have helped me keep an idyllic perspective on life. May you treasure them and make them your own.

1. Happiness is often a choice, so choose wisely. When life comes and sweeps you off your feet, you have the choice to remain on the ground where people will coddle you or get up so people will be inspired by you. It’s not easy, but change never is.

2. Complaining makes us complacent. It might make you feel better, but it’ll do so at the cost of doing something to change the situation.

3. Social media is a community, not a one-man showcase of your life. It’s funny, but the less we go to social media to validate and prove ourselves, the better the space becomes for everyone on it.

4. Differences aren’t a bad thing, similarities are. When that one bothersome person frustrates you to the point of no return, remind yourself that you’re only annoyed at them because they’re different. You like the people most like you in the world, but in reality, being with people just like us never teaches us anything about growth and forgiveness. Differences with others stretch us; similarities comfort us.

5. Compartmentalizing your life is like going to three parties in one night; it sounds like a good idea until you wake up exhausted and bitter the next morning. If your life, hobby, family and passion are all different things, maybe it’s time to consolidate them into one. Then, you won’t suffer from the problems that come with a compartmentalized life.

6. Love those who are in love and love being in love. Love is something that is stomped on in our culture. We’re either jealous or hating on those who are in love, or we are too cynical about the chances of our relationship lasting. This is contradictory to how love should be treated. Whether you’re in love or not, celebrate it, and don’t reject it.

7. There is grace in being where you are. Though it may not feel like it, there is some hidden blessing in what you’re doing. You just have to go digging for it.

8. The No. 1 cause of death for passion is envy. You get nowhere constantly comparing yourself to other, more successful people. Use that time instead to cultivate your passion into something world-changing.

9. The best things in life are illogical. So go crazy. Don’t try to make sense of too much. Love, beauty and goodness don’t make absolute sense, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate them.

10. Your loved ones are the best rehab to go to if you’re a workaholic. Sometimes, you need to remind yourself why you work in order to work effectively.

11. Life is sweeter when you celebrate little victories. Did you pay off a tiny debt? Did you finish a project that took you forever? Before diving into the next thing, take a moment to have a little victory party with those you love.

12. The past only matters in how you redeem it. It doesn’t define you, imprison you or hold you back from anything. Learn to move on and change the circumstances, and life will be more hopeful.

13. Be quick to forgive others, not blame others. Instead of looking to justify ourselves when situations arise, search for the greater peace that could be had. Accept responsibility if that’s what needs to happen, and move on to correct the situation.

14. Fight for the things worth fighting for; that usually excludes many of the debates we have on Facebook. If you believe you could solve a controversy in 140 characters on Twitter, think again. Some debates and controversies just need to be ended rather than prolonged on social media. Instead, pour your time into fighting for things that matter rather than commenting on debates that don’t.

15. Latch onto hope anywhere you can find it. Be ready to embrace something outside yourself, because when life comes crashing down on you like a tsunami, you’ll need something to bring you back to the surface. For you, this might mean going to church or trusting in the love and comfort of family.

But like C.S. Lewis said, “Don’t let your happiness depend on something you may lose.” Make sure your hope is an anchor, not a ship sailing away, and I promise, your perspective on life will be better because of it.
