Meghan and Harry’s Royal Wedding Reception Gets the SNL Treatment — and It’s Hilarious

The evening reception of the royal wedding at the Frogmore House was limited to 200 close friends and family of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but leave it to Saturday Night Live to give their hysterical imagining of the exclusive celebration.

Mikey Day’s Harry led his wedding videographer around the party to mingle with guests, including familiar faces like Kate Middleton, played by Cecily Strong. Though she seems to have overindulged in the festivities, she reveals that after giving birth to three kids, she’s really feeling that one glass of champagne.

Harry visits his grandmother Queen Elizabeth (as played by Kate McKinnon) as her eyes widen over a conversation with one of Meghan’s relatives (Kenan Thompson), who casually rests his arm around her shoulders as he encourages her to watch The Crown.

“This gentleman has also said that I must visit Philadelphia,” she stated, uncomfortably eyeing the camera.

It’s the event of the decade! Be sure to keep up with all of PEOPLE’s royal wedding coverage and don’t forget to check out everything you need to know about Meghan Markle’s perfect style.

SNL didn’t wonder how Prince William‘s best man speech went, but Alex Moffat reprised his role as the groom’s older brother, complete with his newborn Prince Louis resting on his chest.

“So sorry to hear that your hair could not make it tonight,” Day’s character jabbed in a moment of sibling rivalry, before pressuring Moffat’s William to bust a move on the dance floor. He seemed to enjoy twerking until he realized that the Queen was watching.

Can’t get enough of PEOPLE’s Royals coverage? Sign up for our newsletter to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more!

SNL‘s Harry then ventured into the overflow room, where he greeted a Deal or No Deal briefcase model and his “Auntie Creepy,” played by Tina Fey.

Additional hilarious highlights? Aidy Bryant channeling wedding guest Elton John, Pete Davidson taking on Russell Brand and Leslie Jones explaining how she managed to score an invite to the bash.

“I started tweeting about the wedding two days ago and then I got invited — just like the Olympics, that’s my thing. I might be at the North Korea meeting, we’ll see,” she joked.

A no-show in the skit? Meghan herself, who was “out in the hallway trying to keep her white relatives out because they’re mental.”

Of course, the actual celebration was very different than SNL‘s imagining. A guest who attended Saturday’s church service followed by lunch at Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Hall tells PEOPLE that Harry made sure to thank everyone who helped play a part in his special day with Meghan during their lunch reception.

“It was very off-the-cuff, which was lovely,” says the guest. “He promised that all the Americans wouldn’t steal the swords and said, ‘Please, when you leave, be quiet as you don’t want to wake the neighbors,’ which was quite fun.”

“It was more than you would ever imagine it to be,” adds the guest. “It did feel like we were really part of their very special occasion. It just felt about the two of them, which was great.”

6-Month-Old Baby Thriving After Undergoing Unique Form of Open-Heart Surgery: ‘It’s Extra Special’

The Kelley family is excited for an “extra special” Mother’s Day celebration on Sunday, with their 6-month-old daughter Bryce thriving after undergoing a unique form of open-heart surgery.

As a newborn, doctors discovered that Bryce had a heart murmur, and would likely need surgery.

“It was scary,” her father, Mike, tells PEOPLE. “I think any heart issue sounds scary, and the fact that she had a hole in between the two ventricles was definitely frightening and nerve-wracking.”

Surgery wasn’t certain, and the best-case scenario was that tissue would grow over the hole in Bryce’s heart.

“We were just hoping that the whole side would shrink, and just through monitoring it we found out that it wasn’t going to happen because she wasn’t gaining weight,” her mom, Erin, says. “She had a lot of congestion when she was breathing. She just wasn’t growing the way she was supposed to.”

At four months old, the doctors determined that Bryce would need surgery as soon as possible. Though she was in the 50th percentile for weight when she was born, Bryce had sunk to below zero — “off the charts,” says Mike.

Her cardiologist brought in Dr. Khanh H. Nguyen, Chief, Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, who performs a unique form of open-heart surgery where the incision is made under the armpit, rather than the traditional method of cutting down the breast bone. Dr. Nguyen started using this different form 14 years ago.

“Most heart surgeries stem from the chest, and we know that this is not the greatest approach, and we had been looking for other options,” he tells PEOPLE. “This technique had been done in Germany and Switzerland, and I thought I should try it, and we never looked back.”

Not only does it leave patients with a much smaller scar — only about three inches long, and under the armpit — but it also has a much faster recovery time — two days versus several weeks.

“This technique works very well in small children, and the fact that they’re children — they tend to be very active and not having to heal the breastbone is very helpful,” Dr. Nguyen says. “Bryce was able to go home in just two days.”

During the surgery, the Kelleys say that they were nervous, but trusted the doctors. It took five hours total, and about three days after the surgery Bryce was “back to her happy self,” Erin says.

“She had a lot of abdominal gas, so the first night she was home was kind of rough and scary, but after that everything went great,” Mike adds.

Now, they’re excited to have her at home and thriving for their first Mother’s Day.

“It will feel very blessed,” Erin says. “I’m very happy to have her in our lives. She’s just a blessing to our family.”

“I think it’s extra special,” Mike adds. “She’s so little and she’s already gone through heart surgery, it’s hard to believe. But you wouldn’t know it.”

House of Horrors Mom Seems ‘Almost in a Daze’ in Jail, Sister Claims: ‘It’s All “Woe Is Me” ‘

The sister of a California mom accused of abusing her 13 children in a house of horrors claims the woman appeared “almost at peace” and “in a daze” during a recent jail visit.

What’s more, Elizabeth Flores says of sister Louise Turpin: “She’s not who I grew up with. Something’s not clicking right in the head, something’s not right. It’s all ‘woe is me.’ ”

Flores will detail her recent sit-down with Turpin in an upcoming episode of The Dr. Oz Show. Exclusive previews from that episode are above and below.

Turpin and her husband, David Turpin, were arrested in mid-January in Perris, California, after authorities say they discovered the 13 Turpin children allegedly living in squalid conditions, with some chained to the furniture.

At the time, the kids ranged in age from 2 to 29 and only the youngest seemed to have been somewhat spared, according to prosecutors.

David, 56, and 49-year-old Louise were quickly taken into custody. Both face numerous criminal charges, including abuse, false imprisonment and torture. They have pleaded not guilty.

Louise’s sister and her cousin Tricia Andreassen recently met with them in separate conversations from behind bars in California. Andreassen and Flores will describe those interactions on a Dr. Oz episode airing Monday.

“I was kind of shocked,” Flores says in one of the clips. “I figured that her main concern would be the children.”

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

Asked if she believes Louise is sick, Flores says she does.

“She was almost in a daze, like everything’s going to be alright, like she was just — I didn’t see evilness at all, almost at peace,” Flores says.

(She has previously said she and Louise were not close, telling ABC News in January: “My sister and I haven’t really had a sister relationship for about 20 years. … Other than maybe like a call every once in a while, and sometimes those calls are like a year apart.”)

At times during their conversation, Flores claims, Louise was behaving as if “she was hearing voices,” and she believes Louise has disconnected from the reality of her situation.

In the second clip from the episode, Flores says: “My sister, she’s living a fantasy and she wants to keep it all hidden. She’s playing a game.”

Flores and Andreassen also met with David, who they say acted in a strikingly different manner than his wife.

“He broke down in sobs at one point,” Andreassen says in the second clip.

“I was absolutely shocked,” Flores says. “I am so glad that Louise asked me to see him. I needed that, for me. When I went in there, I immediately saw that he knew he had done wrong, he was remorseful, he cried the whole entire time. It wasn’t fake.”

David was like “a little boy that was ready to confess everything he had done,” Flores says.

“He kept saying, ‘I wish I could tell you about what we’ve done, what happened.’ … He had been advised not to,” she claims.

• For more compelling True Crime coverage, follow our Crime magazine on Flipboard

David and Louise have been in police custody since Jan. 14, when their 17-year-old daughter escaped from their house and called 911, authorities have said.

They are each being held in lieu of $ 9 million bond and possible life sentences in prison if convicted of all charges. Their attorneys have declined to comment specifically about the allegations agains them.

Meanwhile, those caring for the siblings say they are recovering and experiencing new things, including using iPads and learning guitar.

The Turpin children were recently treated to a private concert by cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

Louise and David’s conversations with Louise’s relatives will be detailed further on Monday’s The Dr. Oz Show. Check local listings.

Christian Siriano Dressed 17 Stars at the Oscars: ‘It’s Hard to Say No When You Love These Women So Much’

There may be no busier person in the fashion industry – well, make that the universe – than Christian Siriano. The designer, who got his start 10 years ago on Project Runway, has spent the last few months alone dressing dozens of stars for major red carpets (including 10 at the Golden Globes and 3 at the SAG Awards), putting on a fashion show with a celebrity-studded front row, launching a makeup collection with E.L.F. Cosmetics and keeping up his empire (which includes a Payless shoe line, handbags, eyewear, fragrance and bedding, not to mention custom clothing for Barbie dolls).

And still he somehow managed to find time to create 19 total outfits (two stars got two dresses!) for a host of celebrities on Oscar Sunday, from sweeping ballgowns to statement-making suits. We rounded up almost all the looks in one place and caught up with the designer to hear more about the “wild” process of creating distinct looks for a group of women that included Oscar nominees and winners, activists, Olympians and performers.

And though 19 looks were worn, Siriano says there were still more custom outfits that didn’t make an appearance on the carpet: “We sent out so many gowns this season, it was nuts,” he told PeopleStyle. “We made a few more custom looks that didn’t end up on the carpet so we probably would have had about 22 total if that would have happened. It’s hard to say no when you love these women so much and want to support them.”

Whoopi Goldberg got Siriano’s night off on the right foot, so to speak, when she praised the designer for creating a beautiful teal floral gown for her that prioritized her comfort – right down to her combat boots (“I told her I did not mind,” he explains). He also dressed Best Supporting Actress nominee Laurie Metcalf in blush sequins, Kelly Ripa in a ballgown with a green-and-pink bustled bow, author and activist Janet Mock in a sequin and chiffon tank dress with train and Olympic skier Lindsay Vonn in a sexy sheer tulle number (which had sleeves attached mere moments before she hit the red carpet). (Not pictured but also in Siriano: Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors.)

The designer says the longest lead time he had on some of the gowns was about three weeks, while others (including Vonn’s and Mock’s, above, and Janelle Monae’s, below) were created in two days. Some actresses (including Metcalf) had several options to choose from and picked the winner during the final week of fittings. “It has been wild,” he says. “The studio is a war zone with fabric all over the place and custom patterns for so many actresses. Right before the Oscars we just showed our largest collection to date with 72 looks celebrating my 10 year anniversary so I’m not sure how my team survived! But we did it and feel really proud.”

RELATED PHOTOS: See the Red Carpet’s Most Showstopping Styles!

Siriano also created custom gowns for singer Keala Settle, who performed the nominated song “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman. She walked the red carpet in a peach gown embellished with crystal vines and brought the house down in a cornflower blue V-neck number with iridescent sparkle detailing. Settle, who also wore a Siriano design to the Golden Globes, wrote that she felt “honored and blessed” on this Oscars red carpet. (Settle’s performance was a highlight for the designer, he says: “Keala Settle was sick a few days before and did even see her dresses until the Thursday before and she had rehearsals that day. When she hit that stage and sang her butt off in that gown, it was a great moment.”

Siriano’s night didn’t slow down once the Oscars ended. His designs were seen on at least 10 more stars (including Mock, who changed into another of his looks), all as individual as the stars wearing them.

From left, Busy Phillips wore a tank dress with steel blue sparkly skirt; Amy Adams wore a black gown with structured shoulders and a neckline cutout; Janelle Monae picked a lipstick-red peplum suit with crystal epaulets and train; Patricia Clarkson wore a sapphire sequin spaghetti-strap number with flared hemline; Alicia Silverstone selected a high-neck highlighter-pink column.

RELATED PHOTOS: 100+ Beautiful Outfits You Didn’t See (but Can’t Miss) from the Oscars Afterparties!

Holland Taylor wore a suit of Siriano’s design; Rachel Bloom selected a midnight-blue velvet column dress; Abbie Cornish donned a long-sleeve gown with full floral skirt; Jessica Williams stunned in a black silhouette-hugging strapless gown with large bronze ruffle down the side, and Sarah Silverman wore a dress with peplum and mermaid hem. And you’ll notice that each of the stars, who range in age from 32 (Monae) to 75 (Taylor) has a distinctive style and personality that Siriano works to capture in his red carpet designs.

“It is hard and challenging , but that is actually my favorite part,” he says. “Just working with so many different women and their stylists and they all want to look and feel different. So I try to make them happy but also keep my voice as a designer alive.”

Siriano has long garnered praise for dressing every age, skin tone and body type, working with stars (perhaps most notably Leslie Jones) who have previously felt marginalized in the fashion industry to design gorgeous, just-right-for-them ensembles – and in doing so, he’s gained a huge, vocal (again, notably Leslie Jones) and star-studded fan base. And while Siriano is a huge fan of the recent drive to talk about causes on the red carpet, he’s also adamant that the artistry, hard work and, yes, business sense of the fashion industry continues to be appreciated as well – a fact proven further by his Instagram of the team that made the 17 celebrity dressings possible.

And though Siriano needs a vacation about as badly as you do after reading about his crazy 2018 so far (“Maybe a beach in Mexico?” he suggests hopefully), he says the rewards were worth all the hard work. “Getting sweet notes from so many of the women was a great moment,” he says. “Getting a text that says ‘I feel so great tonight’ is a designer’s dream.”

Find Out Helena Bonham Carter’s Connection to the Royal Family (Hint: It’s Not The Crown!)

When Helena Bonham Carter takes to the small screen to play Princess Margaret in the third season of The Crown, she’ll be well prepared.

The London Evening Standard newspaper reported last week that Bonham Carter was “all but confirmed” to take on the role of Queen Elizabeth’s younger, rebellious sister. (Olivia Colman has been announced as taking over from Claire Foy as the Queen.)

And she’s certainly got the pedigree for the job: Bonham Carter not only played Margaret’s mom, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother in the 2010 movie The King’s Speech, but her real-life grandmother was a great friend of the late Prime Minister Winston Churchill – a key character in the hit Netflix show’s first season.

Bonham Carter — famous for her role as Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series, among other films – previously spoke with PEOPLE in 2011 about her royal role in the film The King’s Speech. She said that she spoke with royal expert Hugo Vickers to ready herself to play Margaret and Elizabeth’s mother, and sourced rare footage of the royal talking to help.

“She had a rule that to be a public figure, never complain and never explain and never speak publicly,” Bonham Carter said in 2011. “That was why it was so hard to find her speaking so candidly. The only bit that I found was her talking about Castle of Mey towards the end of her life.”

RELATED: ‘The Crown’s’ Matt Smith Says He Wants Selena Gomez to Play Meghan Markle on the Show

Bonham Carter believes the Queen Mother was “incredibly witty” and had a steely side to her character.

“She developed it almost through necessity and almost through life experience,” she said. “Underneath she was always someone who knew her own mind and in comparison to him she had a very strong sense of self and a basic confidence that he lacked.”

“She recognized that something had to be done and also out of sheer compassion and a wish to help someone she loved who was in such pain. She was an optimist also, whereas he was innately somewhat pessimist.”

The Queen Mother had a way of both giving people something, but also holding back something her “own core self,” Bonham Carter believes. “She played very low status in some ways with the cocked head and humble,” she said of the consort. “But she also knew, ultimately, her position. She knew who she was!”

The difficulty of a life in the public eye – captured so well in the first two seasons of The Crown – is not lost on the actress either.

“I’ve always had respect for them as individuals,” she said. “I’ve never had any envy for that kind of life. The sheer amount of duty! You also don’t have too much personal freedom. It is a gift to know how to be a public figure.”

Bonham Carter’s Crown links continue with her grandmother Violet, who was one of Churchill’s closest female friends. Violet was the daughter of former Prime Minister H.H. Asquith and was a formidable politician herself, serving as the President of the Liberal Party between 1945 and 1947. In 1915, she married her father’s Principal Private Secretary Sir Maurice Bonham Carter. Their son Raymond is Helena’s father.

Her grandmother’s own revelations about her close friend even provide historical context to scenes depicted in The Crown. In show’s first season, Churchill — played by John Lithgow, who won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for the role — is seen painting, a pastime that is absorbs him and is a respite from the affairs of state.

In the official companion book to the first season of The Crown, historian Robert Lacey writes that Churchill’s “longtime friend Violet Bonham Carter remarked that his ‘work with a paintbrush was the only occupation that the great orator ever pursued in total silence.’”

Father of Missing N.C. 3-Year-Old Girl Says Her Disappearance Is Suspicious: ‘It’s a Nightmare’

The father of 3-year-old Mariah Woods, who was reported missing early Monday, told a reporter that he’s suspicious of his daughter’s disappearance from her Jacksonville, North Carolina, home.

“Someone just walked right up in there, grabbed the 3-year-old out of the bed and she didn’t cry, she didn’t scream?” Alex Woods told local TV station WCTI-12. “Nobody heard anything? Four people in the house, two adults and two kids someone just comes up and snatches the baby and walks out?”

Mariah’s mother Kristy, who shares a mobile home with her live-in boyfriend, reported her daughter missing at about 6:45 a.m. Monday, officials have said. She told officials she last saw the girl when she put her to bed at about 11:30 p.m. the night before.

“My last memory of her was feeding her and putting her to bed,” Woods told local station Channel 12. “I told her I loved her and she loved me.”

On Wednesday morning, law enforcement officials hoped for a break in the case when they released a surveillance photo and asked for help identifying a woman and child in the photo. But after a few hours, officials learned the pair was unrelated to the investigation.

Onslow County Sheriff Hans Zimmer said the search was still ongoing. Law enforcement officials from 14 agencies, which conducted more than 100 interviews, were working around the clock, he said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

“Our goal is to find Mariah and bring her back home. We want to bring her home safely,” he said. “If you have a shed, a barn, a wooded area, take a look and call us immediately if there’s something out of the ordinary.”

• For more compelling True Crime coverage, follow our Crime magazine  on Flipboard

Zimmer added he wanted to hear from anyone who spoke with Mariah’s family on Sunday or Monday as investigators work to develop a timeline.

Law enforcement have not commented on whether anyone is a suspect or a person of interest.

Mariah’s father Alex heard about the news of his daughter when he heard the AMBER Alert announced on the radio. He was shocked to hear his daughter’s name.

“It’s unreal. It’s a nightmare,” he said. “You hear about this stuff all the time but you never think it’s going to happen to you or your kids.”

Kristen Bell Shares the Cooking Mistake She’s Made So Many Times, It’s Now a Holiday Tradition

In the midst of everything that comes with hosting a holiday, people are bound to forget a thing or two sometimes — and Kristen Bell is no exception.

Bell, who has partnered with Whole Foods Market for this year’s holiday campaign, says for the past two or three years, she’s realized she’s made the same mistake every time dinner has rolled around: “Between me and my mom, we forget to pull the tofurkey out of the freezer,” the vegetarian actress tells PEOPLE. “We were so concerned with the turkey for everyone, so 5 p.m. rolls around and we’re like ‘Oh no, we have a frozen tofurkey.’”

Bell says she now has a new “mini” tradition: enjoying the tofurkey the day after the actual holiday.

The Bad Moms 2 star, who shares several fun tips in a series of videos for the campaign, says hosting people at her house and cooking for them is her “love language.”

“It’s my ideal scenario,” she tells PEOPLE. “I enjoy going out to a good dinner but I prefer an environment where I can control the light and the music and the people that I’m around and have a more intimate experience. I enjoy welcoming people into my home.”

RELATED: The Absolute Best Thanksgiving Side Dishes

Bell, who is married to actor Dax Shepard, says around the holidays they are usually craving a sweet potato dish. “There’s so much you can do with it like twice baking it and adding to it to be sweet or savory by putting fruit like pomegranates on top or putting maple syrup on top of it.”

And while the couple likes to eat what is seasonally available, Bell says it’s also important she knows where the food they eat comes from.

“I think it’s important to make eating not just conscious, but fun, and I think it’s important to pay attention to where your food is from and what food is going into your body,” the mom of two says. “I knew that from a really young age because I became a vegetarian at 11 and my mom’s a nurse so she said if you’re going to be a vegetarian you need to know what foods you need and how to feed your body.”

WATCH THIS: Marshmallow Turkey Leg Treats for Thanksgiving

Bell has been passing her food knowledge down to her daughters, who also enjoy spending time in the kitchen.

“I do like to involve them as much as I possibly can,” Bell says. “I also like that they are interested in the fact that I care so much about food and we can talk about that and why we eat the foods we eat, and talk about a colorful plate when I’m cutting up vegetables for a platter or a dish. We talk about what goes into it and why it’s good for your body. We have a lot of those discussions in our house so they understand that eating is something that should be done consciously.”

Céline Dion Says Fashion Helped Her Heal After the Loss of Her Husband: ‘It’s Amazing How a Little Bit of Fantasy Can Alter Our Moods’

Fashion means more to Céline Dion than beautiful ball gowns, sexy stilettos and a hot handbag (of which she just launched a new line, available now).

For the French Canadian singer, 49, her array of glamorous looks — including high-fashion designs from Zuhair Murad, Atelier Versace, Balmain, Dior, Alexander McQueen and more — are pure source of joy and a much-needed one at that since she lost her beloved husband and longtime manager, René Angélil, to cancer at 73 in 2016, and the loss of her brother just days later.

“It’s amazing how a little bit of fantasy can alter our moods,” the mother of three tells PEOPLE during an interview about her new handbag line featured in the newest issue, on newsstands now. “I’ve always loved fashion, from as far back as I can remember. But as everyone knows, I’ve gone through some extremely difficult times in recent years, and I suppose that I’m spreading my wings a little bit more these days and doing so with the help of beautiful clothing and accessories.”

RELATED: All About Celine Dion’s New Handbag Line!

She’s also doing so with the help of a new stylist, Law Roach, who she started working with last summer. When Roach teamed with Dion, he told PEOPLE that he could see how much fun she had with fashion, and how much it lifted her spirits. “Fashion can really take you to another place,” he told PEOPLE at the time. “If you feel beautiful and pretty, you can’t be sad and miserable. It’s just impossible.”

RELATED PHOTOS: 35+ Pictures That Prove Celine Dion Is a Fashion Icon

RELATED VIDEO: Celine Dion Mourns The Death of Her Husband At Memorial

These days, Dion agrees: “Law is 100 percent correct,” she says. “Fashion can have a huge influence on how we feel from day-to-day. We can be feeling a little bit down when we wake up to face the day, but things start to brighten up a little when we put on that fancy outfit, with the vibrant colors and a spectacular pair of heels.”

So, how does she describe her style? “I don’t think I have a style as such,” she says. “For me, anything goes! As I’ve said I love fashion, and I love experimenting. I feel great in a pair of faded jeans and T-shirt—I guess that’s my rock ’n’ roll style. But as you’ve probably witnessed, I just love to wear a beautiful couture gown, that makes me feel like a princess or a diva.”

Ultimately, if she’s taught us anything from her style renaissance-meets-reinvention, it’s to indulge in fashion fantasies. “Fashion is fun. Fashion is fantasy,” adds Dion. “It can often provide the escape that we need to take our minds of our daily problems, even if only for a short but necessary time.”

For more of new interview with Celine Dion, pick up the new issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday, September 8.

Utah Mom Sentenced for Starving 12-Year-Old Son and Keeping Him Locked in Bathroom: ‘It’s Unbelievable, Quite Frankly’

A judge on Monday sentenced a Utah woman to up to 45 years in prison after authorities say she starved her 12-year-old son and kept him locked in a bathroom, under surveillance, for months and possibly more than a year, according to multiple news reports.

Thirty-six-year-old Brandy Jaynes, of Toquerville, Utah, was ordered to serve one-to-15 years consecutively in Utah State Prison on three felony counts of second-degree intentional child abuse, to which she had pleaded guilty in July, local TV station KUTV and the Salt Lake Tribune report.

Judge Eric Ludlow denied a request from Jayne’s attorney, Edward Flint, to consolidate all three of the counts into one, according to KUTV.

Flint, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment from PEOPLE, also unsuccessfully sought to have the sentences run concurrently, KUTV reports.

Jaynes kept her son locked inside the bathroom for months, authorities have said. The Spectrum & Daily News reports that, according to prosecutors, evidence suggested the boy had been kept in isolation for seven or eight years. His siblings told authorities that he’d been in the bathroom for at least a year, which Jaynes’ attorney disputed, according to the Tribune, and investigators previously told PEOPLE the boy may have been kept there for two years.

Investigators said Jaynes starved her son — leaving him so malnourished that he weighed only about 30 lbs. when he was found in January. He was so weak he could not stand on his own, authorities previously told PEOPLE.

His father, Jaynes’ estranged husband, Russell Jaynes, is accused of failing to prevent his suffering and is also charged with child abuse. Russell is expected to appear in court on Sept. 19, when his case may be resolved, according to the Tribune.

It remains unclear what may have motivated Brandy Jaynes to inflict such prolonged abuse on her son. During her sentencing, authorities again detailed the scene of the boy’s captivity — what one investigator previously described to PEOPLE as “like a horror movie.”

“I’ve been doing this for 30 years I’ve never seen anything like this,” the judge said at the sentencing on Monday, according to the Spectrum. “I’ve handled murder cases, rape cases, and I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s unbelievable, quite frankly.”

Deputy Washington County, Utah, Attorney Angie Reddish-Day read a letter in court from the couple’s son, written with the help of his foster parents, that she described as “heart-wrenching,” according to the Spectrum.

“She did horrible things to me, but she’s still my mom,” the victim said in his letter. “I feel safe now. I started feeling safe when I got away from her.”

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

The boy’s statement continued: “Instead of eating breakfast, lunch and dinner, I would only get one meal of a couple of hot dogs every other day for months. I felt frozen when I was drenched with ice cold water in the winter.”

The Jaynes’ son was found in January in the small bathroom, which officials have said was covered in feces and urine. It was Russell who found the boy lying on the bathroom floor and rushed him to a nearby hospital, police told PEOPLE.

• PEOPLE’s special edition True Crime Stories: 35 Real Cases That Inspired the Show Law & Order is on sale now.

The boy, now 13, had been taken out of school in December 2012, prosecutors said, according to the Tribune. He and his siblings are now reportedly in state custody.

In a letter to the court, Brandy said that she “screwed up by not getting help,” the Tribune reports. A pre-sentence report stated that she had no remorse for what she did, but Flint, her attorney, disagreed.

“This is not the story of a witch that needs to be burned at the stake. That’s the popular sentiment,” he said in court, according to the Spectrum. “This is the story of a woman who began to fail in her duties to her family, in particular to one son who needed help in a different matter, and she failed in that regard and things got worse. Instead of admitting she couldn’t do it anymore and getting help, she compounded things and made them worse.”

Officials with the Washington County District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from PEOPLE.

Hilarious Video Basically Nails What It’s Like To Live With A Toddler

Life with toddlers is certainly not boring, to say the least, and these parents know that to be true.

Mindy and Branden Bingham, who blog about family life at This Is How We Bingham, shared a hilarious video on their Facebook page. The two-minute compilation highlights their 22-month-old daughter Hazyl’s propensity for derailing their vlogs.

The video has reached over 108,000 views on their channel and over 155,000 views on the Love What Matters Facebook page.

“Hazy certainly loves the spotlight, and when it’s not on her she finds a way to steal it,” the parents wrote in the caption. “Lately it’s by screaming ‘YEAH’ as loud as she can anytime we start talking to the camera!”

Well, at least it’s not the typical toddler “NO!”

The RompHim Isn’t Just Lame Wordplay, It’s A Sign Of Male Fragility

Candles, yogurt, rosé, and now rompers: Our capitalistic marketplace overflows with desirable, fun products that suffer from their association with women. Fortunately, businesses have found a way to market their goods to both women and men: bro branding. (”Bronding”?)

We’ve had mandles, brogurt, brosé, and now the latest example, the RompHim™, a short jumpsuit for men. The RompHim launched via Kickstarter this week and quickly drew derision from Twitter wits. Men in rompers! Imagine!

The summer romper, a cute number that typically looks like a sundress with shorts instead of a skirt, has firmly established itself in the past few years as a popular option for women. Though nearly impossible in bathroom contexts (nothing like hovering naked over a public toilet with one’s entire outfit pooled around one’s ankles to induce skepticism of the trend), it’s otherwise quite convenient. Women can have all the flirty style of a short sundress without the fear of stiff winds, bicycling and sitting cross-legged.

Both men and women have rocked jumpsuits before this latest romper bubble, but the sudden popularity of ruffled, floral jumpsuits for women seems to have tainted the style’s gender-neutral reputation. Many of the recent Twitter jibes directed at the garment centered around the absurdity of a man dressing like a woman ― showing up to a date wearing the same romper as his female counterpart, preening himself over his cute new look, etc.

There’s a genuine merit to the RompHim™ approach: Rompers are convenient (probably even more so for men, who will be able to pee in a romper without disrobing), and they’ve become ubiquitous in women’s fashion but not men’s. But it’s infuriating that advertisers have come to rely on artificial layers of masculinization to convince men to buy products that should be gender-neutral.

Pink wine? That’s girl stuff. Brosé, though, that’s something for bros. Yogurt is something ladies in grey hoodies eat to maintain their svelte figures in between mothering and wifing, but brogurt is powerful, protein-packed nourishment for men. Scented candles are chick tchotchkes, but a mandle redolent of freshly mown football fields is perfect for your man cave. The products are marketed directly at men who actually want scented candles, rompers and rosé, but who fear their very masculinity will come into question if they indulge.

Even as feminists chip away at the socially constructed gender roles that men and women have long felt obligated to perform, male anxiety seems more pervasive than ever. While women feel empowered to lean in to male roles ― and styles ― men battle internal and external pressure to protect a male-only space that distinguishes them from the “weaker” sex. Women today wear pants, Oxford shoes and shirts, and menswear-inspired everything; it’s still rare to see a man in a skirt, and many even find men in shorts to be laughable. Our conception of what men can wear remains as narrow as it was 50 years ago, if not more so.

In the past, activists have mocked the pinkification of products to appeal to women ― perhaps most hilariously, Bic for Her ballpoint pens ― but apparently when women buy basic, mainstream products, men become embarrassed to consume the same things. It’s not too hard to get women to buy gender-neutral items (or even male-coded ones: think of the popularity of “boyfriend” jeans). After all, liking and using things men like and use can result in higher status for women. Drink whiskey, watch football, down a plateful of wings ― as long as you’re hot, you’re the perfect woman, and even if you’re not a solid nine, your choices will at least be deemed respectable.

It’s men who nurture the more acute anxiety about gender neutrality. (This makes sense; in a world divided neatly into men and women, men have almost uniformly gleaned the advantages from this demarcation.) A man watching “Real Housewives” with a glass of zinfandel in a romper is flouting gender norms, but by adopting the lesser-respected female-coded habits. His wine and outfit need to be placed in a separate, more macho category than the identical versions consumed by women. “Don’t worry,” says a carton emblazoned with the name Powerful Yogurt, “just because you’re eating yogurt like a lady doesn’t mean you’re effeminate! You’re still the man here.”

A 2016 follow-up on brogurt noted that brands like Powerful Yogurt were going “gender-neutral”: “[Excluding women] was a risk,” said one executive of their male-focused advertising. Was it, though? Women have always been OK buying products coded as male ― even as men run screaming from anything pink or cute. RompHim suggests their men’s cut rompers as a good option for women who prefer a unisex silhouette; the reverse of that two-birds-one-stone approach would never work out.

The veritable rash of bro-ified terms for non-gendered products shows how deep male fragility runs: A man’s manhood requires constant signaling and buttressing to remain secure. Men who step out of line are derided as emasculated and sexually confused. For men to reap the benefits of a gender-neutral world, we rely on verbal tricks that only reinforce the gender-normative stereotypes that keep men boxed in. The real progress will be made when men can drink rosé in a romper without a single batted eyelash or “bro” prefix.

Tyler Perry On Hollywood And Race: ‘I Don’t Think It’s Black And White, It’s Green’

Tyler Perry isn’t one to hold back about his thoughts on race.

When asked in this week’s issue of The Hollywood Reporter if Hollywood has respect for the African-American viewing audience, Perry said he thinks Hollywood tends to focus more on money than race.

“Listen, let me tell you something about what I know about Hollywood,” Perry, who was named TV Producer of the Year by the magazine, said. “I don’t think it’s black and white, I think it’s green. It’s just about, Where’s the money? How do we make the money? How do we make the business grow? It’s all about the money. So whatever’s making the money is where the respect is going to be.”

Perry, who is currently producing an original series for TLC (“Too Close to Home”), as well as five original shows for the OWN network (“The Haves and the Have Nots,” “If Loving You Is Wrong,” “Love Thy Neighbor,” “For Better or Worse,” “The Paynes”), named Bill Cosby and Oprah Winfrey as his industry role models because “we had the same color skin.”

Even though he’s openly talked about race in the movie industry before, he’s also previously said that he’s not the ideal person to discuss race in film during a 2015 Producers Guild of America panel.

“I’m not the person to ask about racism in this town, coming from where I came from I never had to go through what I’ve heard a lot of people had to go through in this town,” he said, according to Deadline. “I got into this town and I didn’t understand it.”
