U.K. Judge Says Antifur Lobby Can Protest Outside Canada Goose Store

PETA POWER: Attention all Regent Street shoppers: Get out your earmuffs, as PETA plans to protest loudly outside the new Canada Goose flagship in London.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said Sunday that a U.K. High Court judge quadrupled the number of protesters allowed within the outer exclusion zone detailed in an injunction obtained by Canada Goose when it opened the store last month.
The judge also ruled that activists should be permitted to use “loud hailers” between 2 and 8 p.m. The new provisions are effective beginning Tuesday, PETA said.
The High Court ruled that the injunction was obtained by Canada Goose without notice, and unreasonably restricted people’s right to freedom of assembly and expression.
PETA said its lawyer Andrew Locke had argued the injunction severely restricted activists’ ability to inform British shoppers, “95 percent of whom oppose the use of fur, about the company’s continued sale of fur from coyotes,” which PETA argues are treated with cruelty.
A Canada Goose spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment Sunday.
The Regent Street victory for PETA comes just days after Michael Kors said it would stop using fur as of December 2018. It said the ban would also apply to Jimmy Choo, which Michael Kors Holdings

Katy Perry Opens Up About Being a Judge on American Idol: ‘I’m a Straight Shooter’

America, get ready to roar! Katy Perry is searching for the next “Kelly Clarkson.”

PEOPLE sat down with the “Swish Swish” singer at a special event hosted by a Denver Boys & Girls Club — where lucky members had the opportunity to meet, ask questions, and play Just Dance 2018 with the pop star. There she revealed just how much she plans to idolize authenticity during her first season as a judge on the American Idol reboot.

“My personality is that I’m a straight shooter — almost to a fault,” says Perry. “I just value authenticity so much that it can sometimes get me into trouble, because I take this job really seriously. I don’t want to walk away from American Idol and just have a season go by and we don’t have any Kelly Clarkson because that means we’re just filling space on television and I really truly want to be able to do this exercise and make someone’s dream come true.”

The ABC vocal competition series is set to premiere on Sunday, March 11, hosted by Ryan Seacrest with Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie on the judging panel.

“It’s kind of like that good old fashion American dream: we find you, you work hard, you compete, you get tested in every way and you rise to the top if it’s meant to be for you. So I believe in that great American dream.”

And aside from sitting back and judging America’s next biggest star, Perry has also been on the hunt for America’s latest and greatest Halloween costume — right from her “Witness: The Tour” ensembles!

“If I wanted to pull out a candy-type creation I could, but I think that there’s a necessary evolution. You can’t always be that one thing, and I like trying new things. I like experimenting musically, sonically, and with my sense of style. Trends change and I like to start trends, not necessarily follow them,” she says. “ say there’s one costume maybe like every year that kind of like rises to the top and becomes a Halloween costume, and that’s when you know you’re doing something is when people dress as you for Halloween.”

Making sure to “wear whatever I want,” Perry’s famed peppermint dress evolved into a crop top that lights up to display a variety of messages, including words like “kiss” and images of peppermint candy.

“I think my peppermint dress from the California Dreams tour was one of my favorite ones ’cause it was mechanical. I flipped a switch every single night I went on and the bra started spinning. Now I wear an LED bra that has all the spinning things that I’ve worn on my tata’s,” she says.

“I like all my costumes now,” Perry continues of her favorite stage pieces. “I have a gold one in particular that I wear every once in a while for special occasions that makes me feel like I’m in Star Wars.”

With a series of dazzling bodysuits, latex getups and sheer cutouts, Perry says she’s “happy” about her figure.

“My body’s changing and I’m like, ‘It’s winter, and I’m like hibernating. I’m storing the foods, I’m thick, I’m happy about it,’” she says. “There are things that I wear that sometimes I feel like I look great in them, but you don’t have to be like skin and bones.”

Thirteen Grammy nominations later, making RIAA history as the first artist to earn three Diamond Song Awards and even launching her own collection of shoes and fragrance, the “Roar” singer remembers the times when she wasn’t on top of the world.

“I never had it come easily, and a lot of people forget sometimes that people had to work really hard to get here — especially when they’ve been around for so long they’re like, ‘Well, you were just born this way.’ It’s like, ‘Oh no, oh no,’” she says.

“I got to a point where I finally could help take care of my family a little bit, and that made me feel so good. I get to help take care of my sister and my nieces and stuff like that,” she adds. “ makes me feel like ‘Wow, they’re never gonna have to struggle like we did as a family growing up because all of our arguments were about money.’”

Her biggest ‘I made it’ moment?

“I played the Super Bowl and I didn’t trip, and I didn’t have a wardrobe malfunction!” an ecstatic Perry says of taking the stage at Super Bowl XLIX in 2015. “Super Bowl is kinda like touching the ceiling.”

Tamra Judge on Final Straws with RHOC Frenemy Vicki Gunvalson: ‘She’s Done Too Much Damage to Me’

The possibility that Real Housewives of Orange County costars Tamra Judge and Vicki Gunvalson will make amends seems more unlikely than ever.

“She’s done too much damage to me,” Judge, 49, told PEOPLE Now on Monday. “Personally, she has no boundaries and so that’s where you’re like, ‘Is that the kind of friend I want?’ ”

Gunvalson, 55, concluded last season on the outs with the other women of the O.C., with longtime on-again/off-again bestie Judge reaching her breaking point when rumors began to swirl about her husband Eddie’s sexuality.

“For everything that I’ve gone through, you know, my marriage is so sacred to me,” said Judge, 49. “For Vicki to insult my marriage like that like it’s a fraud, that’s what hurt me.”

Beyond her personal grievances with Gunvaslon, Judge takes the rumors in stride, noting her husband is a “hot guy, someone says he’s gay — happens all the time!”

“Our relationship is really easy,” she said. “We’re great friends, we’re great lovers … we just have fun together.”

Judge — whose tagline for the new season is: “I’m pint-sized, baptized and highly prized” — said she made an effort to fix things between with Gunvalson, but that it’s a challenge to get along with her.

“I tried my hardest, I really did,” she said. “You can make fun of my outfit or call me ugly, whatever, but you don’t go that low.”

Season 12 of RHOC sees the return of Lydia McLaughlin, the absence of Heather Dubrow and the addition of newbie Peggy SulahianShannon Beador, Kelly Dodd and Meghan King Edmonds return with Judge and Gunvalson.

The Real Housewives of Orange County premieres Monday at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.

Pratt Lines up ’47 for Redesign Course, Recruits Rochambeau and Aluna Francis to Help Judge Students’ Work

DESIGNER DISASSEMBLAGE: The unlikely consortium of the Boston-based company ’47, Pratt Institute, Rochambeau designers Joshua Cooper and Laurence Chandler and musician-model Aluna Francis will be joining forces on April 27 at National Sawdust.
The fashion show in Brooklyn will be the cap-off event for the unprecedented “47 Redesign” course, which challenged Pratt students to deconstruct New York Yankees baseball hats, NFL hoodies and other ’47 dead stock to reimagine them. The aspiring designers had their work cut out for them re-creating the ’47 apparel and accessories as their own. With the help of Cooper and Chandler, five finalists got the nod to present micro-collections later this month. Francis, who has modeled for Alexander Wang and performs with AlunaGeorge, will be lending a critical eye.
How Cooper and Chandler wound up working on the Pratt project is a story in itself. A few years, ago during their CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund days, they wanted to work with the Swet Shop Boys’ Riz MC, who is now more widely known as Rizwan Ahmed, the actor behind HBO’s “The Night Of.” While designing looks for the Swet Shop Boys’ upcoming tour, the designers met his bandmate Heems, who works with the production company behind the Pratt

‘The People’s Court’ Judge Joseph Wapner Dies At 97

Joseph Wapner, the feisty retired judge who for more than a decade presided over courtroom TV show “The People’s Court,” has died. He was 97.

Wapner was hospitalized last week for breathing problems and was transferred to his home in West Los Angeles under hospice care. He died Sunday morning, TMZ first reported.

Wapner, who was the first judge to serve on the bench of “The People’s Court,” helped popularize the court TV genre. He made his TV debut on the show in 1981 and presided until the series was canceled in 1993. (It was rebooted four years later.)

The show was the first to use the format of binding arbitration; parties came on the show to resolve the kinds of disputes typically handled in small claims courts.

Wapner was technically an arbitrator in his capacity on the show, but he was a real judge: He spent 20 years as an L.A. County Superior Court judge before becoming a TV star.

“The People’s Court” and Wapner became pop culture touchstones during the 1980s and ‘90s: They were parodied on “Saturday Night Live,” and Dustin Hoffman’s character in the 1988 hit film “Rainman” is shown counting down the minutes until show started.

Joseph Albert Wapner was born on Nov. 15, 1919, in Los Angeles, the son of a lawyer and a homemaker.

He called his Depression-era upbringing “difficult,” but said in 2005 that he had learned “you have to work hard for everything you get.”

“You have to want to do things, and you have to work at it,” he said.

Wapner attended Hollywood High School with dreams of becoming an actor ― and he often recalled his unsuccessful courting of his classmate and future star, Lana Turner ― but his father had plans for him to follow him into the legal field.

“Before I even passed the bar, he had cards printed up that read ‘Wapner and Wapner,’” the judge said. “He was more interested than I was.”

Wapner graduated from the University of Southern California, but joined the Army before he started law school. He was wounded during combat in the Philippines and was ultimately awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.

After his service in the armed forces, Wapner returned to USC for law school and joined his father in private practice before breaking off on his own.

In a 2005 interview with the Archive of American Television, Wapner said listening was the most crucial skill for a judge to have.

“Listen to both sides with an open mind. Know the law, and be fair to both sides,” Wapner said. He said he hoped those characteristics would also be his legacy.

“I’d like to be remembered as a judge who acted as a judge should,” he said. “I want to be remembered in a kindly way. In a positive way.”

Wapner is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mickey Wapner, and sons Fred ― also an LA Superior Court judge ― and David. Wapner’s only daughter, Sarah, died in 2015.

Judge Orders Bill Cosby To Give Sworn Deposition In Lawsuit

LOS ANGELES, Aug 5 (Reuters) – U.S. comedian Bill Cosby has been ordered to give a sworn deposition in a lawsuit alleging he sexually abused a 15-year-old girl at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles in 1974.

The order, entered by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Tuesday and made public on Wednesday, states that Cosby will submit to questions under oath from the lawyer of his accuser, Judy Huth, on Oct. 9, and that she will answer questions from his attorneys on Oct. 15.

Cosby’s lawyers had sought to compel Huth to give her deposition before the comedian, but the judge sided with Huth in requiring Cosby to go first. (Reporting by Steve Gorman; Editing by Sandra Maler)

Judge Allows Sofia Vergara’s Ex To Sue For Custody Of Frozen Embryos

Nick Loeb, ex-fiancé of “Modern Family” actress Sofia Vergara, was granted permission on Friday to file a revised lawsuit seeking custody of two frozen embryos the couple created when they were together.

Loeb, 39, first sued Vergara in August 2014 — four months after they split up — seeking to void the contract that they both signed when they had the embryos created using Loeb’s sperm and Vergara’s eggs in 2013. The contract stated that “any embryos created through the process could be brought to term only with both parties’ consent.” Loeb’s suit argued that the contract should be voided because it did not specify what would happen if the pair broke up.

In the newly amended lawsuit, Loeb will specifically be suing for custody of the embryos, Entertainment Tonight reported.

Loeb’s attorneys have claimed that the first lawsuit was an attempt to ensure Vergara did not destroy the embryos. However, lawyers for the 42-year-old actress stated that she never wanted the embryos destroyed, but merely wished to leave them frozen indefinitely.

The legal battle gained publicity in April, when Loeb wrote an op-ed about the situation for The New York Times, titled “Our Frozen Embryos Have a Right to Live.” In the piece, Loeb refers to a frozen embryo as an “unborn child” and writes that “keeping [the embryos] frozen forever is tantamount to killing them.”

Vergara said the lawsuit “makes no sense” in an interview with Howard Stern earlier this month, People reported. She told Stern that a child “needs a loving relationship of parents that get along, that don’t hate each other” and it would be “selfish” to bring the embryos to term otherwise.

She indicated that if the issue were “so serious” for Loeb, he should have taken the legal contract more seriously when he signed it.
