Buffy the Vampire Slayer Alum Eliza Dushku Reveals She Married Peter Palandjian Last Month

Eliza Dushku has tied the knot!

On Sunday, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum, 37, shared the happy news that she married Peter Palandjian in August.

Alongside news of her nuptials, the actress also shared a series of images from the pair’s romantic outdoors ceremony in Boston. In one photo, Dusku appeared to triumphantly raise her hands while the pair walked down the aisle, and in another, the couple shared a sweet kiss on the lips.

For the ceremony, Dushku wore a form-fitting, lacy white gown featuring an elegant cut out across her back.

The actress also shared a photo of Dushku and Palandjian, 54, kissing on a tandem bike at the Boston Bike Party, a monthly occurrence that was last held on Aug. 17 — one day before the pair’s nuptials.

Fittingly, she simply captioned the post, “8.18.18,” including two heart emojis.

Dushku announced her engagement to the businessman on Instagram in June 2017, when she shared a photo from the proposal.

The new expansion introduces a third playable character in the form of Ms. Chalice, as well as a brand new isle, new bosses, and new weapon. It’s coming in 2019.

Cuphead was originally revealed on Microsoft’s stage back at E3 2015. It started off as a gorgeous, but simple series of boss fights. However, it was delayed several times, as the scope of the game expanded greatly. Cuphead eventually was released on September 29, 2017. We scored the game an 8.8, praising its beauty and difficulty, saying, “As tough as it is beautiful, Cuphead won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but there’s absolutely no doubting its quality.” It went on to win several of our game of the year 2017 awards, including Best Xbox One Game.

Sears to Close Last Chicago Store

Sears Holdings Corp. is set to close its last Chicago store in the city where the retailer opened its first store back in February 1925.
The last surviving Sears store in Chicago is located at the area known as “Six Corners,” the intersection of Milwaukee, Cicero and Irving Park Roads.
Howard Riefs, a spokesman for Sears, said the store would close in mid-July, with the Sears Auto Center at the site closing in mid-May. The store site is part of the 265 stores sold to Seritage Growth Properties. Sears has been leasing the store site. The sale agreement allows Seritage to recapture both the store and the auto center.
Riefs said, “The store will remain open for customers in the meantime and will begin its liquidation sale by April 27. The Sears at Six Corners was the shopping district’s anchor business since it first opened to large crowds on Oct. 20, 1938. We have proudly served our members and customers on Chicago’s northwest side for the last eight decades.”
The spokesman emphasized that Sears, for more than 120 years, has called Illinois home and “that is not changing.” He added that while the last Chicago store is closing, that does not change either the

Last Jedi: You’d Be Surprised These Scenes Weren’t CGI

These days it’s generally assumed that anything in movies beyond the norm of reality — and even then, some of the humdrum stuff too — is achieved via CG. But that’s certainly not the case, as Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s special effects supervisor Chris Corbould could tell you. From Force-destroyed huts to scores of falling bombs and beyond, many of the effects in The Last Jedi were created the good old-fashioned practical way.

On the occasion of The Last Jedi’s release on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital, I spoke to Corbould — who has worked on everything from The Dark Knight to a bunch of James Bond movies to The Who’s rock opera Tommy. He broke down some of the secrets of his trade…

Star Wars: BB-8 Dishes on Meeting Prince William and Harry at The Last Jedi Premiere

BB-8 is spilling it all!

The beloved droid stopped by PEOPLE Now to dish on everything Star Wars: The Last Jedi. (Disclaimer: The PEOPLE staff does not speak fluent droid and is likely making this all up.)

BB-8 said (beeped?) he loved getting the chance to meet Prince William and Harry on the red carpet at the London premiere of the film and that he does not get along with his evil counterpart BB-9E.

As for the best piece of advice fellow robot R2-D2 gave him?

“Don’t get blown up,” said the droid.

And staying true to the holiday season, BB-8 said if he had a lightsaber, it would almost certainly be red and green.

For his thoughts on porgs and to hear even more behind-the-scenes secrets from The Last Jedi, watch the above video.

Watch our full Star Wars: The Last Jedi special, streaming now on PeopleTV! Download the PeopleTV app on your favorite device or go to PEOPLE.com/peopletv.

In PEOPLE’s new special issue Star Wars: The Ultimate Guide to The Last Jedi (on newsstands now) and an exclusive PeopleTV special, BB-8 puppeteers Brian Herring and Dave Chapman open up about what fans can expect from the rolling droid in the upcoming film.

“He’s still a member of the heroes gang,” says Chapman. “He’s in there getting dirty and down with it.”

While Herring and Chapman promise fans that BB-8 will once again serve as a “comic relief” in the film, they say his role in the story is more important than ever.

“He’s a pivotal point, as the droids of Star Wars tends to be,” says Herring. “He also does a lot of stuff that we haven’t seen him do yet.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters Dec. 15.

Last Jedi Director to Create Star Wars Trilogy

Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, will be creating a brand-new trilogy of Star Wars films, and is set to write and direct the first of the three films.

StarWars.com announced that Johnson will write and direct the first of the three films along with his long-time collaborator Ram Bergman as producer. The trilogy will be separate from the Skywalker saga and “introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.”

Last Comic Standing Comedian Ralphie May Dead at 45 After Cardiac Arrest

On Friday morning, American standup comedian Ralph O. “Ralphie” May died of cardiac arrest in Las Vegas, PEOPLE confirms. He was 45.

“Ralphie had been battling pneumonia and had cancelled a handful of dates over the last month in an effort to recover,” May’s manager said in a statement. “Earlier this morning at a private residence in Las Vegas his body was discovered, cause of death is cardiac arrest.

“Two days ago he won the Casino Comedian of the Year at the Global Gaming Expo and had performances throughout the remainder of 2017 as part of his residency at Harrah’s Las Vegas,” his manager said.

In 2003, May competed in the first season of Last Comic Standing, finishing in second place. The comedian went on to record multiple comedy specials for Comedy Central and Netflix, including The Girl of a Nation.

His death was mourned by fellow comedians including Larry the Cable Guy and Gabriel Iglesias.

“Oh man fellow comedian and my friend Ralphie May just died. So crazy,” wrote Larry the Cable Guy on Twitter on Friday. “RIP Ralphie. You my friend were one of the nicest and kindest out there.”

“I’m at a loss for words to hear about the passing of comedian Ralphie May,” added Iglesias. “He was a friend to many and a father of 2 beautiful children.”

In 2015, May and his wife, comedian Lahna Turner, filed for divorce. The couple had two children, April June and August.

Charlie Gard’s Parents Fight to Bring Terminally Ill Son Home: Our ‘Last Wish Is That Charlie Dies at Home’

Connie Yates returned to London’s High Court on Tuesday to request permission for her and her partner, Chris Gard, to bring their terminally ill son, Charlie Gard, home to die — just one day after ending their legal fight over treatment of their 11-month-old son.

London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), where Charlie has been receiving treatment since October, argued that there are no doctors able to oversee Charlie’s death at home and expressed concerns about getting the proper medical equipment into the couple’s home.

Their lawyer, Grant Armstrong, told Judge Nicholas Francis that his clients’ “last wish is that Charlie dies at home.”

“The parents wish for a few days of tranquillity outside of a hospital setting,” he said. “The parents had hoped that Great Ormond Street would work with them.”

Yates added: “We promised Charlie every day we would take him home. It seems really upsetting after everything we’ve been through to deny us this.”

Lawyers for GOSH told Judge Francis they “would like to be able to fulfill the parents’ wishes… if it is safe and practicable and in Charlie’s best interests.” GOSH doctors argued that moving Charlie to a hospice would be the best option.

The court has given the family until noon on Wednesday to find a medical practitioner that is prepared to take up the couple’s case.

Charlie, who was born on August 4, 2016, has a rare genetic condition called mitochondrial depletion syndrome, which causes progressive muscle weakness and brain damage. He is currently on life support and unable to move his limbs or eat or breathe without assistance. His parents wanted to take him to the U.S. for nucleoside therapy. And after a lengthy legal battle, they made the decision to end their fight on Monday.

A lawyer representing Chris Gard and Connie Yates told the High Court that “time had run out” for Charlie after a U.S. doctor said it was too late to give him nucleoside therapy. The parents were given the test results from Charlie’s most recent scans on Friday.

“Charlie has suffered extensive muscular atrophy,” Armstrong said in court. “This is irreversible even with . Chance of improvement can’t now be delivered.”

Speaking in court on Monday, Yates said making the decision to “let him go” was the hardest thing she and her partner had done in their lives, and that they still believed his condition could have improved with treatment had it been administered earlier.

The family’s story has made headlines worldwide, with Pope Francis and President Donald Trump offering support to the grieving parents.

The Last Line Launches Direct-to-Consumer Fine Jewelry Online

The latest entrant in the online, direct-to-consumer fine jewelry arena, Los Angeles-based The Last Line, launching today, aims to be first among many companies offering baubles for female self-purchasers.
Founder Shelley Gibbs Sanders, who designed for celebrity jewelry lines and high-end brands in L.A. for 15 years, is bringing her point of view to what she considers an “over-flooded market.”
“We [she and husband Teddy Sanders] found two holes in the market: there were not a lot of well-designed and high-quality staples, and nothing that felt heirloom, like when it was handmade in the Fifties and Sixties,” she said.
Hence, the decision to offer a two-part collection, called Heart (the staples) and Soul (modern heirlooms). Ranging in price from $ 60 to $ 1,500 and $ 1,000 to $ 7,000, respectively, the two ranges are targeted at women who are just starting to build a fine jewelry collection as well as seasoned shoppers seeking something new.
Like Iconery, Noémie, Aurate and Vrai & Oro, The Last Line can pass on significant savings for expensive products with the direct-to-consumer business model. Gibbs Sanders can also gather customer feedback and react quickly with pieces made in Los Angeles. The site will launch with two drops of earrings, followed by necklaces, bracelets

101-Year-Old Woman Breaks 100-Meter Record for Her Age Group — and Only Started Racing Last Year

The number that matters the most to 101-year-old Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins is not her age, but her race time.

Hawkins, a former schoolteacher hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, won the 100-meter dash in a blazing 40.12 seconds at the USA Track and Field Outdoors Masters Championships this weekend, according to the Washington Post.

Her time is a world record for women aged 100 and over, pending its verification in December. As of now, that’s six seconds faster than the current certified record.

Hawkins quipped of her victory, “I missed my nap for this.”

But that’s not all.

Earlier this month, Hawkins participated in the 30th annual National Senior Games in Birmingham, Alabama, and ran the 100-meter dash in 39.62 seconds. You’re reading that right — that’s a faster time than the one she earned this weekend. That means, pending the verification, she has two chances to hold on to the record.

“I came to run, and that’s what I did,” a proud Hawkins told the NSGA after her 39-second race.

Proving that it’s never too late to start anew, Hawkins only started her track and field career last year at age 100. But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been an active person for a long time.

According to The Advocate in Baton RougeHawkins is a longtime bicyclist (she rides everyday) and was on a bike when first competed in the National Senior Games when she was 75. Hawkins says she gave up after the National Senior Games in 2001 when there was a lack of female competition. But, she was persuaded to compete in last year’s Louisiana State Games by her children, and that is what led to her record-breaking performances.

Today, she practices the 100-meter in her neighborhood, she told WBRZ. When she’s not on her bike or running the dash, she likes to take care of the house, tend to her bonsai trees, and engage in her primary workout: running from the garden to answer the phone when it rings.

Hawkins likes to live simply, and she says her secret to a long life is as easy as eating healthy, exercising, and family.

Oh, and one more thing:

“I tell people the thing I recommend is to marry a good man,” Hawkins explained. “If you marry to a man for 70 years and have four wonderful children and then you have great grandchildren. You can’t ask much more than that.”

Lifelong Packers Fan Had The Perfect Reason To Take His Wife’s Last Name

The stars certainly aligned when lifelong Green Bay Packers fan Ryan Holtan-Murphy met his future wife, Marie Packer.

A self-described diehard fan, Holtan-Murphy has been obsessed with the football team since before he could even walk. So when it came time to say “I do,” Holtan-Murphy knew there was one decision he didn’t need to think twice about. His Packers pride would become part of his identity once and for all.

“Honestly it was never even a decision!” Ryan said of taking his bride’s last name. “I love her and love the Packers, so it was a no-brainer. Marie very graciously agreed!”

“Marie’s family is bemused but happy to let me join the party,” he continued. “My family lives in Wisconsin and is completely unsurprised.”

Writing over email from his honeymoon in Turks and Caicos, Ryan recalled the couple’s June 17 nuptials in Chicago, Illinois, which included some key Packers-related details. The groom surprised his bride with a green and gold suit and other decorative accents.

“Marie knew about some of the Packers decorations, but had no idea about the Packers suit,” he said. “I wasn’t sure she’d agree to go through with it if she knew. We also referenced the team in our vows: ’I promise to be a good teammate, just like the other Packers…”

The team hasn’t reached out to the couple, though Miller Lite, the Green Bay Packers’ official beer sponsor, sent some beverages to the wedding and the newlyweds’ home. They also gave the pair two tickets to every Packers home game this season.

Walt Disney’s Last Words Were ‘Kurt Russell,’ According To Kurt Russell

When it comes to the legend of Walt Disney’s final statement, Kurt Russell has the last word.

Disney Studios has always been a huge part of the actor’s career. He signed a 10-year contract with the studio early on and now Russell is starring as Star-Lord’s dad, Ego, in Disney and Marvel’s upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” Still, his connection to the company goes well beyond business.

As a kid, Russell had a close, personal relationship with Walt Disney. The industry pioneer thought so highly of the young actor that a legend surfaced claiming Disney’s last words were actually “Kurt Russell.”

In fact, it’s more than legend, according to Russell. It’s true.

Disney died in 1966 when Russell was still a teen. The actor says he learned about Disney’s last words a couple of years later.

In a recent interview, Russell told HuffPost, “They pulled me into the office a couple years after he died, and this woman — who I don’t believe it was his secretary, but it might’ve been, I don’t know ― pointed to [something he wrote] and she said, ‘Do you know what that’s about?’ And I said, ‘No, I don’t.’[She said], ‘Because he wrote something after it. But then he went back up and he wrote your name. That was the last thing he wrote.’ And I said, ‘Oh gee. I don’t know what it’s connected to.’”

Was it because Disney considered Russell a friend? Was it for a movie role? Who knows?

Russell said he’s been asked about it for years, but he doesn’t know any more than that. “She was pointing out that that’s the last thing he wrote. That’s the only thing I know.”

The actor said Disney was very important in his life and he learned a “tremendous amount” from him. Russell’s stories are even more unbelievable than learning Disney’s last words.

“We did have a personal relationship. We played Ping-Pong at lunch sometimes. He’d come down to set. We’d go watch movies that the studio was making, and he’d come down and ask if I wanted to go see them. He’d took me around and introduced me to all the different departments at Disney, and at one point gave me a bunch of original photo cells that they make the backdrop drawings of the characters and stuff like that,” said Russell.

“There were many, many things that I connected with him [on],” he continued. “He reminded me a lot of my own grandfather. My grandfather was a creative and sort of inventive man, and they were not dissimilar in their demeanor, too.”

Apparently, Disney even liked to give Russell career advice. The actor’s family has a deep connection to professional baseball; his dad, Bing Russell, ended up owning a minor league baseball team — a “unique” minor league baseball team (which is the subject of the documentary “The Battered Bastards of Baseball”). Kurt played pro baseball himself for a while, too. Disney told him early on that he didn’t think it was for him.

“I was very comfortable around him, and I had a great time with him, great relationship, and it was very important. He said to me, ‘Baseball might not be something that you end up doing as a career.’ He said, ‘I think you might want to look at things in this business because I think your going to have a long career.’ So he did have a strong effect on me,” recalled Russell.

After an injury reportedly slowed his baseball dreams, Russell became an actor again, and Disney’s prediction of a long career came true.

“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” is now set to be one of the biggest box-office successes of the actor’s career, and it’s coming on the heels of another one of the his movies, “Fate of the Furious,” which is soon passing $ 1 billion worldwide

Russell said, “It’s just serendipitous the fact that they’re coming out literally back-to-back, so that’s kind of [an] amazing event.”

Or perhaps it’s just a bit of Disney magic.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” hits theaters in May.

Ludacris Sure Had The Last Laugh Over Bill O’Reilly And Pepsi, Didn’t He?

Back in 2002, Bill O’Reilly asked his viewers to boycott Pepsi because the company was working with the hip-hop artist Ludacris.

“I’m calling for all responsible Americans to fight back and punish Pepsi for using a man who degrades women, who encourages substance abuse, and does all the things that hurt particularly the poor in our society,” the Fox News host said on “The O’Reilly Factor.”

It worked. Soon after O’Reilly’s call to arms, Pepsi pulled all of its ads featuring Ludacris and stopped working with him entirely ― for what reason is still difficult to discern.

Flash forward 15 years, and the situation not only seems particularly ridiculous, but just drips with irony.

The beverage company recently found itself embroiled in yet another ad-related controversy. This time, however, the ad was actually offensive, making light of political protests depicting Kendall Jenner walking through a protest to deliver a can of Pepsi to a police officer and receive cheers all around. On April 5, Pepsi pulled the ad and apologized.

Just days earlier, on April 1, The New York Times published an investigation that found it was, in fact, O’Reilly who had been degrading women, not Ludacris. All told, Fox News and O’Reilly had paid out $ 13 million to five women because of his allegedly inappropriate behavior toward them, The Times found.

The revelation would lead to calls for O’Reilly’s ouster at Fox News. Asked about the controversy a little over a week later, Ludacris only said that he hoped O’Reilly could learn from the controversy.

“It’s not my place to judge Bill O’Reilly the same way he judged me,” he said during an appearance on radio show “The Breakfast Club.” “I’m thriving in life right now. All I can do is hope that Bill O’Reilly settles these issues and learns from whatever mistakes he may have made ― and also thrives.”

“But,” he added, “it is definitely ironic that Pepsi and Bill O’Reilly are under fire right now.”

O’Reilly was never able to settle his issues. On Wednesday, Fox News announced that “The O’Reilly Factor” host would not return to the network as a result of his treatment of women, leaving him with all the time in the world to go catch the No. 1 movie in America right now: “The Fate of the Furious,” featuring who else but Ludacris.

Ludacris appeared to subtly address the news Wednesday, just 30 minutes after it came out that O’Reilly was gone.

Now, I ask you: If that’s not a cherry on top, what is?

After His Wife’s Death, Man Still Uses The Last Coffee Can She Bought

When his wife of 41 years died of skin cancer in 2012, David Hoskins packed up and moved in with his daughter to nearby Hazard, Kentucky.

Hoskins didn’t take much with him, but he kept two things: the last can of coffee his wife Karen bought before she got sick and the spoon she used to stir her coffee every morning.

Five years later, the 66-year-old widow still uses both every day.

“Looking at that picture of him with his coffee can, you’d never know that that’s all he has left of her,” his daughter Kim Hoskins Fields wrote in a now-viral Facebook post shared on the page Love What Matters on Saturday. “Because that’s how they always started their day was with coffee, and so each day he starts his day with my mama.”

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Hoskins Fields said the spoon and the Maxwell House coffee canister ― which her dad refills when it starts to get low ― are sacred items in her home.

“When he moved in his things, he told me to never throw the can away and to never touch the spoon inside of it,” she said. “He didn’t want it mixed up with my other spoons.”

“I kind of laughed and asked him why,” Hoskins Fields said. “He explained that it was all he kept because it made him feel close to her, like she was still there each morning.”

The couple had six kids during their marriage (two from Hoskin’s previous marriage), so couple-time was often in short supply. Every morning, though, they made time for coffee.

“Even when I was little and she went to work super early he would get up with her and have a cup,” their daughter said.

Karen’s diagnosis of melanoma in October 2012 came out of nowhere and he grappled with the news, according to his daughter. Two months later, Karen died.

“When she was dying, he made himself sick with worry and tried to save her,” Hoskins Fields said. “He begged and pleaded with God. He would have traded anything, gave anything or done anything to save her.”

These days, coffee is all Hoskins needs to remember his late wife.

“He says he has all the pictures and memories he wants in his mind,” she said. “He kept what he knew would make him feel the closest to her.”

Billy Dee Williams Says He’s Not in The Last Jedi

Billy Dee Williams will not be in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The Lando Calrissian actor made the declaration during his “Smooth Talkin’ With Billy Dee Williams” panel Thursday at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida.

Williams played Lando, of course, in Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi, but has also voiced the character in Rebels, Robot Chicken, Lego Star Wars, and Battlefront.

A younger version of Lando Calrissian, played by Donald Glover, will appear in the upcoming Han Solo anthology film.

In addition to his “Smooth Talkin’” panel, Williams also appeared at Thursday’s “40 Years of Star Wars” panel alongside George Lucas and former co-stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davis, and Peter Mayhew.

Dior Unveils Last Pop-up Shop at Maxfield’s Prouvé House

Dior today concludes its global roadshow of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s spring 2017 collection, with an installation at the Jean Prouvé “Nomade” house at Maxfield in Los Angeles, which will premiere for invited guests at an event Wednesday night and be on display to the public through April 14.
The initiative kicked off at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, continuing on to The Webster in Miami, and Antonia in Milan.
Dior has pulled out all the stops to promote its first spring collection under Chiuri and the pop-ups were chosen because they represent different markets and clientele.
“We are delighted for the opportunity to partner with Maxfield and to showcase our spring-summer 2017 collection within the Prouvé house. The modern and timeless design aesthetic aligns so perfectly with the feel of the collection and with Maria Grazia Chiuri’s evolving vision for the house of Dior,” said Renaud de Lesquen, president and chief executive officer, North America at Christian Dior Couture and Parfums Christian Dior. “Dior has a longtime association with the art world, beginning with Mr. Dior and his passion for art, design and architecture. It is wonderful to see the collection featured in such an iconic and globally renowned structure.”

Last Words: Jaymes Mansfield Reflects On Her Time On ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’

Throughout the ninth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Huffington Post Queer Voices will interview each departing queen on the Saturday following the air date of their elimination episode. Check HuffPost Queer Voices weekly to hear these queens reflect on their time on the show and their legacy as queer artists and performers.

It’s that time of year again ― for the next few months, queers around the world will gather in bars every Friday night for what has become the Olympics of the LGBTQ community: “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

The ninth season of “Drag Race” marks a major turning point for the reality show. Not only has it moved from Logo to VH1 and shifted to a primetime slot on Friday nights, but RuPaul won an Emmy for his work after the show’s eighth season.

Among a host of other things, this monumental shift for the reality show means that the competition is fiercer than ever. The first queen to go home this season is the sweet and comedic Jaymes Mansfield hailing from Madison, Wisconsin. Mansfield had a bit of trouble finding her footing and was sent packing after a lip-sync against Las Vegas native Kimora Blac.

In this interview with The Huffington Post, Mansfield reflects on her brief time on “Drag Race,” being labeled “the underdog” and what she ultimately wants to do with her platform the show gave her.

The Huffington Post: You weren’t on the show for very long but do you feel like you grew and changed during your time on “Drag Race”? What did you learn?

Jaymes Mansfield: I learned that being eliminated off of a reality television show isn’t the worst thing in the world. And you learn to improve on things that were your shortcomings and to embrace the things that made you weird in the first place – the things that made them want to keep you.

Do you feel you like the image of who you are ― and who you are as an artist ― was authentically portrayed on this show?

I feel like I was honest! [laughs] The person on the screen was me.

How do you feel about being framed as “the underdog”? Did you identify with that label?

Being framed as an “underdog” doesn’t feel very good because I wanted to be framed as a strong competitor, not somebody with a bunch of shortcomings [laughs]. To be quite honest with you, as an artist and as a gay person we get a lot of – I come from a background of being bullied and constantly having to fight for who I was, so being in an element where, “oh now you’re an underdog!” It’s like, no, I’m not. I’m a strong competitor.

What do you want to do with the platform that Drag Race has given you?First, I’m really thankful for this platform that I was given because it’s far beyond what I was before I got on the show. But I want to really conquer that medium of YouTube because I feel like it’s a really untapped entity. I have a lot more tutorials, a whole lot more content, especially movie reviews and drag history – I’m going to keep doing that until the end of time.

Do you see any important political implications with “Drag Race” being on such a mainstream network at this specific moment in time?

I would say it’s a good thing. As far as “Drag Race” being on a mainstream platform now, it’s really beautiful. I remember RuPaul was [on VH1] years and years ago and it’s really a homecoming for her and we really need things like drag now, especially being able to laugh and being able to have things that parody – public image and public figures. It’s an important thing – we need to be able to laugh and entertainment really does that for people.

Is there a particular queen that you’d like to see on a future season of “Drag Race”?

I would love to see somebody like Biblegirl or more legendary queens like Hedda Lettuce or Sherry Vine.

Out of everyone left in the competition who are you rooting for?

J: Nobody! [laughs] I’m rooting for my girls Nina and Peppermint and Charlie. I hope they all do really well. But I wasn’t there long enough to hate anybody!

What do you want people to know about Jaymes Mansfield going forward?

That I’m a queen who truly cares about drag! And I’m a queen who will continue to talk up the importance of drag queens and our history until I’m blue in the face! That’s always what I’ve wanted to be remembered for is somebody who really and truly cares about drag and the preservation of drag.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” airs on Friday nights at 8 PM ET/PT on VH1.

Sales Of Ivanka Trump Products Surged Last Month

Ivanka Trump’s clothing and accessories brand saw a spike in sales in February, according to the company’s president and market research data.

Abigail Klem, who took over as president of the brand after President Donald Trump’s daughter stepped down in January, said the company has seen near-unprecedented success since last month.

“Since the beginning of February, they were some of the best performing weeks in the history of the brand,” Klem said in a statement. “For several different retailers Ivanka Trump was a top performer online, and in some of the categories it was the [brand’s] best performance ever.”

While the company does not publicly share sales figures, recent market research reports backed up Klem’s statement.

Lyst, a British e-commerce website that sells thousands of different brands, said sales of Ivanka Trump products increased 346 percent between January and February, while sales of the brand are up 557 percent over last year. Ivanka Trump was the site’s 11th most popular brand in February, up from 550th in January.

“To see such an extreme spike in one month is completely unheard of and came as a huge surprise to us,” Lyst spokeswoman Sarah Tanner told the BBC earlier this week.

Market research firm Slice Intelligence, which tracks purchases from 4.4 million consumers who have allowed the firm to analyze their email receipts, saw a 207 percent increase in purchases of Ivanka Trump products between January and February. (The same firm reported a 26 percent drop in the brand’s sales in January over the same month of the previous year.)

Amazon, one of the most high-profile retailers carrying Ivanka Trump products, did not immediately respond to a request for sales figures for the brand. However, Ivanka Trump perfume is currently the website’s best-selling fragrance.

And a company spokesperson said sales of the brand were up by 21 percent in 2016 over the previous year’s sales.

That spike may be attributable to increased public interest in the Trump family over the last year. The February sales surge coincided with the president’s first month in office, during which Ivanka Trump made multiple high-profile appearances, including at the inauguration and the president’s address to a joint session of Congress.

The surge also came after several stores, including Nordstrom, dropped or stopped promoting the clothing line amid calls for boycotts against companies that sell Trump family products.

Following Nordstrom’s announcement, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway urged consumers to “go buy Ivanka’s stuff.”

“I’m going to give a free commercial here,” she said Feb. 9 during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.” “Go buy it today, everybody. You can find it online.”

Many ethics experts condemned Conway’s remarks, and the Office of Government Ethics called on the White House to discipline her for potentially violating a rule prohibiting officials from using their positions of power to promote products. However, the White House declined to penalize Conway, arguing the comment was made “in a light, off-hand manner.”

The president himself attacked Nordstrom for dropping Ivanka Trump products, tweeting that the department store chain treated his daughter “unfairly.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Footage Reveals Luke’s First Words to Rey

This article was originally published on EW.com.

It pays to be a Disney shareholder. While Star Wars fans are waiting on the first trailer for The Last Jedi, the House of Mouse screened top-secret footage from the eighth chapter in the Skywalker saga during a Disney shareholders meeting. Fortunately, we have a few details.

According to Los Angeles Times reporter Daniel Miller, who tweeted out some movie morsels, the footage featured Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) asking Rey (Daisy Ridley), “Who are you?” before the prospective padawan “deftly” handles a lightsaber.

RELATED: See All of EW’s Star Wars Covers

Finn (John Boyega) and Chewbacca were also spotted, while Carrie Fisher’s General Leia Organa appeared briefly in military attire. Elsewhere in the footage, Miller reports sweeping scenes of “mountains, oceans, forests, deserts,” as well as “an X-Wing wobbling mid-air, under attack inside a giant ship.”

Read more below.

For now, that’s all we’re getting.

Disney revealed a sliver of footage of Star Wars: The Last Jedi footage to the public with its start-of-production video (see below). Compared to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the studio is keeping a trailer under wraps for a longer time. (Perhaps until Star Wars Celebration.) That might be because there’s a lot more going on in that galaxy far, far away — Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hit theaters just a few months ago, and the still-untitled Han Solo film recently kicked off production.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Looper‘s Rian Johnson, is expected in theaters on Dec. 15.

Fashion Deals Update:

Last Night, ‘The Bachelor’ Actually Addressed Racism

“The Bachelor” franchise is far better known for perpetuating racism than for thoughtfully discussing it. But on this week’s episode, the painfully whitewashed show actually acknowledged that racism exists and that the current political climate has heightened the visibility of overt racism. The bar is very low, but for “The Bachelor” this is uncharted territory ― and it made for pretty great TV.

This isn’t the first time the show has skimmed the surface of race in America, but it’s certainly (and sadly) the most in-depth. A few contestants have brought up their own experiences of growing up biracial during their intro packages (Christian on JoJo’s season, Taylor on this season), and we’ve seen several in-season “in the moment” interviews and conversations between the leads and their suitors in which race is addressed. Marquel on Andi’s season of “The Bachelorette” and Robyn on Sean Lowe’s season of “The Bachelor” both explicitly discussed interracial dating and the challenges they face as black contestants. But because contestants of color have traditionally rarely made it past week five or six, the show has never really discussed race beyond those simple acknowledgements that race exists. Rachel Lindsay, who got a hometown date on this season of “The Bachelor” and has already been announced as the next “Bachelorette” forced the franchise to dig ever-so-slightly deeper.

On Episode 8, Nick journeyed to Dallas to meet Rachel’s family. Though it’s already been announced that Rachel is the next Bachelorette ― and therefore won’t end up with Nick ― the date was still worth watching. Nick, who says he’s never seriously dated a black woman before, first joins her at her predominantly black church, where she makes clear that attending services together would be important to her in a relationship. Broaching religious divides, itself typically a third rail in “Bachelor” world, in such an open way made for a more honest portrait of two people navigating a possible relationship. But perhaps more importantly, Rachel makes it clear the church service was a bit of a culture test: While Nick has attended church, this would be his first time in a mostly black church. Whether he would be comfortable in that setting, she suggests, could reveal a lot about how well he’d fit into her own life.

Next, the couple meets up with Rachel’s family ― minus her father, a federal judge who couldn’t appear on the show. During the family dinner, race is an open topic of conversation. Rachel’s mother, Kathy, and sister, Constance, directly ask Nick about whether he’s dated black women before. After he emphasizes that he’s not concerned with race because of his feelings for Rachel, her sister skeptically tells the camera that ignoring race isn’t enough.

“Right now, in this climate that we’re in, I feel like we’ve seen more racism come out,” she says. “He does need to be more aware. It’s not just something you can hide and ignore and can live in your bubble.” (It’s also worth noting that this date was filmed mere days before Donald Trump was elected the 45th president of the United States.)

“The Bachelor” has historically tried to exist in a world in which real-life forces ― like religious identity, race and political viewpoint ― don’t exist. The idea that all you need is vulnerability and a spark and an open heart to find true love is an appealing fantasy that likely shields the show from putting off certain segments of its viewership (as well as its advertisers). But after 15 years, it feels obviously ridiculous at best and actively harmful at worst. We live in a country where Jewish community centers are receiving waves of bomb threats, where churches are being vandalized with white supremacist graffiti, where the President of United States signed a travel ban targeting Muslims. Even the sappiest of TV love stories cannot escape the world it takes place in.

No one wants Rachel’s arc ― on this season or her own season of the show ― to be entirely about the color of her skin. There are so many interesting things about her, it would be a pity to just focus on one part of her identity. But not talking about race has never proven an effective way of eliminating racism; being open and thoughtful about the challenges that might, sadly, accompany an interracial relationship is valuable.

A partner who understands what race and racism mean in Rachel’s life could offer her better support and understanding. It’s clear from the most recent episode of “The Bachelor” that her family wants that for her. Plus, a show that at least attempts to mirror the real-life challenges of the world it’s situated within may prove to be more interesting, relevant, and yes, entertaining, than ever before.

Josh Gad, Chris Pratt And J.J. Abrams Really Want Daisy Ridley To Spoil ‘The Last Jedi’

Josh Gad, Chris Pratt and J.J. Abrams really want answers about “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

On Monday, Gad shared a video on Twitter in which Pratt, Abrams and fellow members of Hollywood, such as Bryce Dallas Howard and Penelope Cruz, bombard Daisy Ridley with their questions about the upcoming film in the “Star Wars” franchise. But Ridley, who will reprise her role as Rey in the next installment, keeps mum on the subject.

Gad, who’s currently filming “Murder on the Orient Express” with Ridley, has been trying to get answers since January. He’s even enlisted help from Dame Judi Dench, but still, Ridley kept quiet.

To Gad’s dismay, Ridley hasn’t given him the answers he so desperately wants. And while she sometimes appears annoyed, her giggles in the clips lead us to believe she’s probably in on the joke.

You can check out a compilation of all the clips below:

We guess Gad and everyone else will just have to wait until Dec. 15, when “The Last Jedi” hits theaters.

You never forget your first time having sex with your spouse or significant other ― though depending on how awkward it was, you may wish you could.

In the WatchCut video above, long-time couples are asked to describe their first time getting busy in as much detail as possible.

“It was on a love seat in my living room,” one woman recalls of her first time with her girlfriend. “There was somebody sleeping relatively right next to us and somebody in the bedroom and then some other people had passed out, in the hallway-dining room area.”

Ah, young love.

When asked about the most recent time they had sex, every single one of the couples had to push themselves to remember.

“That’s by appointment nowadays,” one wife and mom of two young kids jokes.

Harry Smith’s Last Throw

Harry Smith’s Last Throw

The War of Mlanjeni was the longest conflict in South African history until the second Anglo-Boer War. The loss of life was substantially heavier than that of the Zulu War of 1879 and the political after-effects of it were significantly greater than those that followed the Zulu War. The Zulu War has been the subject of numerous accounts but the silence surrounding the Eighth Frontier War is deafening. Harry Smith’s Last Throw fills this gap: a moving history, vividly drawn out using eye-witness accounts. The narrative is not limited to the British perspective. Xhosa accounts have been translated (many for the first time) to avoid an Anglo-centric bias. For both sides by the 8th War there was a great deal of blood to avenge and brutal killings were perpetrated by many combatants. The author provides a colorful backdrop, explaining how the Dutch East India Company came to the Cape to establish a provision station for ships on the way to its East Indies empire. Dutch Burghers settled there but the Company had no interest in Africa itself. In order to be viable farms had to be large and this created a class of independent-minded who looked increasingly to the interior of Africa, pushing the Colony&supl;s borders. The wars with the Xhosa were the result of the eventual expansion of these boundaries into Xhosa territory.

The Last Broadcast

2017-01-03-1483402379-1178649-s640x480.jpeg

It’s an ordinary Sunday evening in New York City. The close of New Year’s Day and I’ve just said to my husband, “We’ve had a really lovely day.”

We start making dinner and I put on the radio to WFUV FM to listen to Rich Conaty and his creation, The Big Broadcast”, just like we’ve done nearly every Sunday night for the past twenty years.

What might be called ‘old’ music fills the room–scratchy 78’s of Scrappy Lambert, Jelly Roll Morton, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, and Louis Armstrong when he was very young.

Suddenly, an abrupt pause and a serious female voice fills the room to say that Rich has died. My husband and I freeze in the kitchen. All dinner preparation stops. I bump up the sound to see if we can hear anything else, anything to explain why. But there’s none. Announcement over, there’s nothing left to say.

Death halts everything. Yet Rich Conaty resumes talking for the next three hours in what must have been a show he pre-taped up there in the Bronx at Fordham, the Jesuit University.

In that way we humans try to make order out of the disorder death brings, Geoffrey and I start telling each other things Conaty revealed on-air during 2016. He’d been ill. He’d had an operation. After the operation he sounded weak, very weak. We worried. How could we not? He didn’t sound the same, and because he was a part of this house, we felt it severely.

We recall “Manhattan Mary,” his only wife for a short time. She had died, too. Who was she? Also his mother, “Mother Conaty” as he called her, down in Florida. Didn’t Rich talk about visiting her only a week ago? He must have had an inkling of his own mortality.

I shut the radio off. Our little apartment in the Village is stunned into silence. Still Geoffrey and I proceed to make dinner. It’s only a radio show. Yet, radio is the most intimate of home entertainment. It’s right there in the room with me, following me around the apartment.

Funny thing, until last night I didn’t know that Conaty and I were both raised in Astoria, children of Irish immigrants. Very likely we both fell in love there with radio, when the “Make Believe Ballroom” ruled the afternoon airways, making ordinary life seem glamorous.

Everything I know about music comes from the scattershot nature of radio and its DJ’s. Through the magic of invisible DJ’s like Martin Block, Jim Lowe, and William B. Williams, I was introduced to musical tastes I took on as my own. I did the same with Conaty and his wildly eclectic array of music from the 20’s and 30’s.

One of Conaty’s favorite singers, Annette Henshaw, would sign off each song saying, “That’s all.” And it is. It’s over. Even if WFUV repeats the hundreds of “Big Broadcast” shows, it will never be the same. Better than nothing at all. But it won’t have Rich Conaty up there in the Bronx, with his superb, quirky taste and his complicated view of life guiding us all into a New Year.

I shut the radio off as Conaty is spinning 1928’s “Garden In the Rain”

“T’was just a garden in the rain
But then the sun came out again
And sent us happily on our way.”

Rich Conaty always did just that.

One Tear-Jerking Last Look At Michelle Obama’s Best Outfits Of 2016

We spent a large part of 2016 celebrating Michelle Obama’s legacy and trying our best to ignore the imminent end of her tenure as first lady. She has done a great deal to help distract us from the latter, blessing the masses with arguably her best dressed year yet.

Sure, FLOTUS has had too many incredible style moments to count over the past eight years, but she really turned it out for the farewell tour. This rose gold Atelier Versace moment serves as proof.

Nothing can prepare us for the dark day looming in the distance when she passes along her title and the slew of best-dressed opportunities that come with itto the incoming first lady. But as they say, it’s better to smile because it happened than to cry because it’s over.

It’s in that spirit that we present 11 of Michelle’s best looks of 2016, which we intend to scroll up and down over and over again for the remainder of this year.

Chance The Rapper Celebrates The Last Christmas Before Donald Trump With Run-DMC Spoof

Chance the Rapper marked what will be President Barack Obama’s last holiday season in office by spoofing Run-DMC’sChristmas in Hollis” track on “Saturday Night Live.”

The hip-hop star joined forces with regular “SNL” cast members Kenan Thompson and Leslie Jones for the music video of the catchy “Jingle Barack” song. There was even a cameo appearance by the real-life DMC, aka Darryl McDanielstoward the end.

But the upbeat number came with a serious message, principally a warning of what will happen this time next year — once President-elect Donald Trump is in the White House.

“Hey kids enjoy the presents while you can, because next year you might get a bomb from Iran,” rapped Thompson, with Chance later adding: “I’mma hurt myself before we lose Obamacare.”

Check it out in the clip above and see Run-DMC’s original video below:
