Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino Loves the ‘Sweet Spot’ of Wedding Planning: ‘Most Guys’ Don’t Get It

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is having a blast planning his upcoming nuptials to fiancée Lauren Pesce.

“We are in the sweet spot right now and having fun planning the wedding,” the Jersey Shore Family Vacation star tells PEOPLE at the Lunch with the Jersey Shore event at Little Dom’s restaurant in Los Angeles on Friday.

While Sorrentino, 35, admits that he’s been leaving most of the big decisions up to his bride-to-be, he says he’s really enjoyed checking out different venues — and tasting all those wedding cakes!

“I don’t think most guys realize how much goes into planning a wedding. I told her, ‘Babe, just do whatever you want to do,’ ” he adds.

Sorrentino and Pesce, 33, who got engaged on Valentine’s Day, met in 2004 in college and dated for about four years, splitting before the original run of Jersey Shore premiered in 2009. After the MTV series wrapped in 2012, they rekindled the romance and have been together for over four years.

While Pesce previously told PEOPLE the couple didn’t “have a date” picked out yet, she revealed the couple’s “dream was always to go to the motherland and get married in Italy.”

Sorrentino, who is also celebrating 30 months of sobriety, went on to tell PEOPLE that his time with his Jersey Shore castmates was vastly different this time around.

“I was able to make good decisions, stay faithful to my girlfriend back home and stay positive,” he remarks. “I was definitely a little worried about going to the clubs with these guys who can drink and being back in that environment, but I was able to do it.”

RELATED VIDEO: Jersey Shore‘s Mike ‘the Situation’ Sorrentino Pleads Guilty in Tax Evasion Case

Sorrentino, who has battled with a prescription painkiller addiction in the past, previously told PEOPLE that he credits his fiancée with helping him turn his life around.

“What I dreamed of, the expectations I had set for him, him getting healthy and sober — I didn’t know that our relationship would survive had those miracles not happened, and they did,” Pesce said. “He put in the hard work and thanks to the faith in God that we have, we’re in the position we’re in today.”

“She’s definitely my better half and the reason why I strive to be the best version of myself and to fight for our future,” Sorrentino added. “And to show a good example to her, her family and everyone watching — because my life has been under a microscope. I have a lot to prove.”

And as Sorrentino awaits his June 20 sentencing after pleading guilty to tax evasion in a New Jersey federal court in January, he’s maintaining a positive outlook and is hoping for the best — even though he’s facing up to five years in prison.

“I’ve done everything in my power to better myself,” he told PEOPLE prior to the season premiere of Jersey Shore Family Vacation. “I really feel that I’m in the best situation possible.”

“We should receive some closure,” he added. “And I’ll try to move forward with my life.”

You’ll Never Love Anything as Much as Katy Perry Loves Chicken Nuggets on This Japanese TV Show

Love is a strong word, but it’s the only appropriate way to describe Katy Perry‘s feelings for chicken nuggets. That probably explains why she housed tenders by the handful during a lighthearted appearance on Japanese television Thursday morning.

The 33-year-old “Swish Swish” singer was welcomed onto the program Sukkiri with an assortment of fried bites in a variety of flavors — including cheese and spicy — presented in chicken-themed cardboard containers.

According to Us Weekly, who first shared the clip that’s making the rounds among fans on social media, the nuggets are from Lawson, a Japanese convenience store chain.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Upon sight of the meaty morsels, Perry immediately went to town by jokingly sampling as many as she could. “I love them so much,” she mouths to the hosts between bites.

Unfortunately, disaster soon strikes when she can’t fit any more into her mouth, leading her to sheepishly spit some into one of the containers. The hosts, ever the professionals, shield their guest as she takes care of business.

Perry is in town for the Asian leg of her Witness tour, which kicked off on Tuesday. She had a very special supporter make the trip with her: on-again beau Orlando Bloom.

During the show, Perry told fans while introducing her song that she “felt very loved. And this next song is about being so loved and so seen that you never ever have felt this feeling before. This feeling of love.”

She added, “This is ‘For Me You See,’ for Bubba Doo,” apparently revealing her pet name for Bloom, whom fans spotted in the audience.

The nickname means, “One whom you adore, such as a (male) child or husband,” according to Urban Dictionary.

Bloom, 41, made no attempts to hide that he was also in Japan, sharing a selfie with the country’s famous cherry blossoms to Instagram.

“cherry blossoms bloom ❤,” he captioned the photo, tagged in Tokyo.

On his Instagram story, the actor shared more videos from his trip, including a horse rolling around in the dirt and flags blowing in the wind.

Perry and Bloom sparked rumors of a reconciliation earlier this year by vacationing together in the Maldives, then sightseeing in Prague two months later.

Though the couple has yet to go public with their relationship status, a source recently told PEOPLE earlier this month that they are back together and taking it slow following their split in February 2017.

“After Orlando and Katy split, they stayed in touch. It wasn’t some awful split. They were just busy with their careers and it wasn’t working,” the source said.

Alaska Airlines Employee Calls Tomi Lahren ‘Tami,’ Twitter Loves It

Tomi Lahren got inadvertently shaded by an airline on Twitter, and people were really into it.

The right-wing commentator, who recently got hired as a senior communications adviser at Great America Alliance, apparently had a bad experience on Alaska Airlines and ― as one does ― took to Twitter to tell her tale:

The airline, which responds to most tweets where it’s mentioned, tweeted back to offer their condolences for Lahren’s troubles. However, in their response, they called her “Tami.”

The company later tweeted that “Tami” was a typo, but Twitter erupted in the aftermath regardless. Twitter users were praising Alaska Airlines employee Ryan, who signed the tweet, as well as the the airline itself:

Nothing like a good typo to get Twitter all worked up. Nicely done, Ryan.

This Little Girl Loves Costco So Much, She Made It Her Birthday Party Theme

When Kimber Walker celebrated her fifth birthday, she picked a pretty unconventional party theme.

The North Carolina preschooler commemorated the occasion with a Costco-themed party at her home in February.

“She is obsessed with Costco,” Kimber’s mom, Niki, told The Huffington Post. “We served hotdogs and pizza, set up sample stations, printed dollars with her face on them, had Costco pizza and Kirkland ice cream. We also had a little shop set up, and everyone designed their own ‘membership cards’.”

Niki said Kimber had been requesting a Costco-themed party for two years, so the family finally decided to bring her dream to life for her fifth birthday.

The Walkers declared their daughter “Employee of the Month” and set up a photo area for guests to take photos with a sign stating that. Their local Winston-Salem Costco even gave them a special employee badge for the little girl.

Kimber had a blast at the party, and her guests enjoyed the celebration as well.

“They thought it was hilarious and quirky, which both describe my daughter,” said the mom.  “One of the little girls that came said that it was the best party that she had ever been to, including all of her own. “

Keep scrolling to see more photos from Kimber’s awesome Costco party.

What Every Person Who Loves A Child Of Divorce Should Know

There are fundamental truths most 5-year-olds understand about the world: The sky is blue. The grass is green. Your family consists of you, possibly siblings and your parents. But that truth is altered if your parents split up.

I was in kindergarten when my parents got divorced. They worked hard to make my reality as normal as possible, but even at a young age I knew something was different about my family compared to my friends’ families.

I wouldn’t change anything about our situation. My mom was my best friend growing up and is to this day; my dad got remarried and he and I gained an amazing family who we can’t picture our world without. The divorce didn’t give me a terrible life. What it did give me was invaluable insight ― especially when it comes to relationships.

The following is what people should know about loving a child of divorce, culled from my personal experience and expert advice:

We worry about commitment.

People whose parents split up might fret more about their serious relationship dissolving ― perhaps seemingly out of nowhere. That’s because our view of commitment may be altered by the divorce, according to Jane Greer, a New York-based marriage and sex therapist.

“Be aware that their feelings about commitment and getting married may have been impacted by the divorce,” Greer told The Huffington Post. “It might have made them reluctant to take the next step … They may feel that it won’t work out.”

We crave relationship validation.

Kids of divorce may feel a greater need to know where they stand with their partner. The best way to do that? Open communication.

“They will do better when they have clarity about where things are going in the relationship,” Greer said. “Feeling secure allows for more openness and more personal sharing.”

And require patience ― particularly around holidays.

Two Christmases and two birthdays may seem like a sweet deal, but they also require a lot of coordination. We worry about this the first time we bring our significant other home because it can get a little hectic and we don’t want it to scare them away. But trust us, the reward of spending time with so many people (and the food and presents, of course) is worth it in the end.

Fights will sometimes scare us.

Admittedly, kids who’ve grown up around fighting parents may not be the best at handling conflict. More specifically, we may be a bit averse to it because we fear we might be abandoned altogether.

“Children of divorce can sometimes be more sensitive during arguments as they may have witnessed their parents arguing in front of them,” Jacqueline Newman, a New York-based family law specialist, told HuffPost. “They may take more extreme positions and think that a small tiff could be the end ― simply because as children the fights they did see led to the ending of the relationship.”

But we know it’s okay to call it quits if the relationship isn’t working out.

Some of us may have come to understand in time why our parents decided to separate and know that it was ultimately the best decision for everyone involved. We may carry this lesson into our own relationships. We know divorce ― eventually ― isn’t the end of the world.

Our family dynamics will likely be more complicated than yours.

Some kids of divorce may be closer to one parent than another. This could depend on factors like the terms of divorce, who became the main caregiver and even how other siblings interacted with each parent, Newman said.

“I recommend that when dating someone who has this type of family connection that you try to understand it rather than be annoyed by it,” she said.

We’re resilient.

If our parents divorced when we were younger, we had to bounce back from a heavy situation earlier than most people our age.

“I think that children of divorce are often more resilient than children who grow up in intact families, because they have to be,” Newman said. “Depending on how the parents handle the situation, many children grow up way faster than they should and have to handle adult emotions in a way that they do not understand.”

We love hard.

Kids of divorce treat relationships with the gravity they deserve. We not only want love to be successful ― we’ll do everything we can to make it happen. That includes not settling, staying open and working through our own issues to make sure we’re approaching our unions in the healthiest possible way.

Because ultimately, we know relationships are worth it.

10 Things Anyone Who Loves An Introvert Needs To Know

Introverts often find themselves in romantic relationships with extroverts, despite their fundamental differences in temperament.

Perhaps it’s because they balance each other out. Introverts (or “innies”) ― who gain energy by spending time alone ― are drawn to extroverts because of their easy-breezy social nature. Extroverts (or “outies”) ― who recharge their batteries by spending time with other people ― may find themselves attracted to introverts because of their ability to listen and ground the more restless parts of the extrovert’s personality.

If you’re married to, dating or even just romantically interested in an introvert, below are 10 things our self-proclaimed “innie” readers want you to know.

1. Please don’t take our need for alone time personally.

“An introvert needs time alone, and it has nothing to do with you. She’s not mad, she’s not holding anything in and she certainly doesn’t need to ‘talk it out.’ She just needs to recharge so that when she does come back, she can be 100 percent in the moment with you. Giving her the space to do this without guilt or nagging means you both win in the end. My husband gladly backs off when I’m ‘introverting’ because he knows the payoff for our relationship is huge.” ― Betsy Talbot

2. Small talk is not our strong suit. Deeper conversations are where we shine.

“The general small talk chit-chat grates on my nerves ― I don’t like it and feel awkward trying to engage in it. However, discussions on more meaningful topics truly catch my interest and I can ramble on and on or listen at length with keen interest.” ― Julie Lombard

3. Don’t try to change us.

“Just let your introvert partner be him or herself. Understand that our personalities are different and that we have our own way of loving.” ― CM Dimen

4. That said, the occasional nudge to help us come out of our shells is welcome.

“While we might complain and whine, getting out is good for the balance of introvert-extrovert dating. It is ideal in a balanced relationship. If my wife never got me out, I might never go.” ― Darcy Johnston

5. Sometimes silence really is golden.

“It’s okay not to talk all the time. Sometimes the greatest intimacy is just being together in comfortable silence. It can be cuddling or it can be separate, but it’s okay to be quiet.”― Jenna Schulcz

6. We might be slow to warm up so just be patient, OK?

“I may appear quite serious at first; however, once I feel comfortable around you, then I open up more and reveal my rather quirky, silly and witty side. I truly am such a friendly, sweet-natured oddball that yearns for friendships and a boyfriend but I need to be invited to join a discussion or event otherwise I feel like I am being a bother or intrusive.” ― Julie Lombard

7. Understand our need to decompress after a long day.

“Most of us are out in the world all day and are drained when we get home. We need some quiet recharge time, and having someone ask us how our day was, what happened, etc. is very off-putting. Give us 15 to 30 minutes just to be quiet and recharge a bit. We’ll be happy to talk and catch up, we just need some time first.” ― Jenna Schulcz

8. You don’t need to tell us we’re quiet ― we already know.

“Please, for the love of god, don’t comment on how quiet we are. We know. Sometimes we just need quiet time. When we’re ready to talk we will, just have some patience.” ― Mia Montez Lopez

9. We might require more low-key nights at home than you do.

“Don’t challenge your partner’s desire to spend a few nights at home by pointing out that ‘normal people’ go out on weekends.” ― Nicholas Mercuro

10. We prefer to gather our thoughts instead of thinking out loud.

“An introvert likes to think about things, so if you spring a new topic or pick a fight, don’t be surprised if you don’t get the level of participation you want from your introvert lover. Our default stance is to consider, to play things out in our heads before opening our mouths. Give us time to do that, and you’ll get the kind of conversation or debate you were looking for. We have some of our best conversations and liveliest arguments on our morning walks because my extrovert husband will lay the groundwork for the topic the afternoon before (politics, personal matters, where to go on vacation next, etc.)” ― Betsy Talbot

**Some responses have been edited/condensed for clarity.

WATCH: Jessa (Duggar) Seewald’s 1-Year-Old Son Loves Fixer Upper

Spurgeon Elliot Seewald is a baby after our own hearts.

Jessa and Ben Seewald‘s one-year-old son has some very grown-up tastes. In addition to playing some avant garde piano pieces in a video posted on his mom’s Twitter, the Counting On star has developed a keen interest in the hit HGTV series Fixer Upper. In an Instagram video his mother shared, “Spurgie” watches the show on a laptop with rapt attention.

“Spurgie and I may just be addicted. . .” Seewald captions the clip, adding “#fixerupper.”

While most kids his age are more interested in cartoons or muppets, Spurgeon has clearly developed a keen interest in home remodeling and decorating. He’s transfixed throughout the video as the show’s cohost and interior designer Joanna Gaines lays out plans for a kitchen remodel on the show, the fourth season of which is airing now. (Gaines and husband Chip are already filming its fifth.)

The famous tot is not, however, alone in his obsession. A Fixer Upper spoof starring an all-kid cast recently went viral after Joanna shared it on her Instagram feed. The California mom who created the tiny tribute told PEOPLE in October, “Our kids are well aware of who Chip and Joanna are, because we can’t get enough of the show. It’s safe to say we are addicted.”

If he hasn’t uttered his first word yet, here’s hoping it’s “shiplap.”

Tom Hanks Still Loves How His Buttocks Looked In ‘Forrest Gump’

Tom Hanks can’t get enough of how good his butt looked while starring as the titular character in the 1994 movie “Forrest Gump.”

“I had worked out quite a bit, it was all about running and I must say my buttocks, as Forrest would say, were as firm as tinned hams,” he told “The Graham Norton Show” in footage aired in the United Kingdom on Friday.

Hanks noted how his wife, Rita Wilson, reacts each time she sees the movie on cable television. “I want to see that one scene where you’re running away from the camera, and we can look at that fine Hanks ass!”

Some 22 years later, Hanks admitted his rear now looked different. “But in the day, man, I must say I even think it’s a beautiful thing to behold,” he added.

The One Thing Bill Maher Loves About Donald Trump

On “Real Time With Bill Maher” Friday night, Maher led a panel discussion about the Republican presidential candidates’ greatest weaknesses, inspired by the question that opened the GOP debate Wednesday.

While Maher has expressed clearly negative feelings about Trump in the past, he did reveal one thing he appreciates about the candidate.

“Trump [was] the only guy who was honest,” Maher said to his panelists. “He said, ‘I don’t forgive.’ I love Trump for that. He’s like, I don’t forgive. You fuck with me, I’m Vito Corleone, I will follow you back to Italy. I will find you in your old age and I will stick a knife in your stomach.'”

Back in September, Maher called out Trump’s ignorant comments about undocumented workers by channeling him in a segment jokingly telling Americans to rally against Australians “taking” our jobs.

“Australia is not sending us its best people,” he said. “They’re bringing drugs — yes, enough for everybody, but still — they’re rapists — OK, not rapists, but they do a lot of fucking — and I assume some are good people.”

Sigh. It’s not too surprising that Maher had trouble finding something about Trump to like.

Victoria Beckham’s Muse Is a 17-Year-Old Model Who Loves Milk Shakes, Surfing

Alexandra-Elizabeth-Ljadov-model-street-style

Alexandra Elizabeth Ljadov outside the Valentino show in 2014

It turns out Victoria Beckham‘s muse isn’t a super-posh jet-setter who hobnobs with royalty (or, alas, a member of the Spice Girls). Rather, the designer has just revealed she finds her inspiration in 17-year-old Estonian model Alexandra Elizabeth Ljadov.

Alexandra-Elizabeth-Ljadov-hat-street-style

Ljadov at Paris Fashion Week fall ’15

The model was discovered at a festival “while I was eating meat with ketchup” (true story!) and is a self-described tomboy who grew up climbing trees, building tree houses, and playing detectives. Certain activities she loved in her youth are still a draw, like surfing and wakeboarding, but others we can’t envision happening as much—namely, re-creating scenes from America’s Next Top Model.

She seems to have a sweet tooth too, copping to fries and milk shakes as a dinner option during Fashion Week’s frenetic schedule. Her go-to trick for staying focused during busy times isn’t yoga or meditation either. “I need to have my sugary ice cream to keep my mind sharp,” she’s said. The sugar-fueled focus is working: Ljadov walked in 74 shows during the fall ’15 season and has been seen in campaigns for Gucci and Saint Laurent.

Previously, Beckham’s said her work is influenced by retro style. “I get a lot of inspiration from the ’40s and 50s. Everything that I design I would wear myself.” For her latest resort collection, she was influenced by the circus.

Want more muse-worthy style? Check out rare photos of a young Elizabeth Taylor, coming to a photography exhibit soon.

The Loves and Tribulations of Detective Stephen Carlton

The Loves and Tribulations of Detective Stephen Carlton

An excerpt:”Hi, I’m Mary White.”Carlton tilted his head toward her.”I’m with that tour group there,” she pointed to the bus, “heading for Bogotá. I traveled with the nuns from the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Coromoto. We were on our way to San Cristóbal.” She stopped, seemingly expecting some attention. When this wasn’t forthcoming, she continued, “The bus broke down three hours ago. There is no sign that we might leave soon. The driver walked back to El Llano, the main highway, to seek help.” She paus-ed. “I heard you say you’re going across the border. I wonder if…” She stopped and then, “Would you take a passenger? I’d pay, of course.”Mary moved her luggage very close to the aircraft and waited-her long hair and her blue skirt tugged by the breeze. Underneath her silky blouse she was wearing a necklace with a pendant in the shape of a large cross.”I don’t give lifts,” Carlton answered dryly. He turned his back.”That’s too bad. I wouldn’t be any trouble. Three hundred dollars cash.” Her tone was soft yet persuasive. Carlton didn’t reply. He moved toward the landing gear and checked the wiring. Mary followed him. “Five hundred. I could be of help.”Are you a mechanic?”No, I have nursing training-just in case.”I’m healthy, thank you.” Carlton skirted her to grab a wrench.”One thousand dollars. I’d do anything you ask.” Her voice was just a whisper. She was so close to him that her hair, lifted by the wind, grazed his face. Carlton bent to pull on a cord to test its connection. It was then that he saw Mary turning around and lifting her bags. “Wait!” he called. She instantly dropped her bags, made an about-face, and waited.”Anything I ask?” Carlton finally showed his face completely and looked her over. “Anything at all? That is a pretty strong statement.”Mary flickered her eyes between Carlton and the ground. It would be interesting to find out how far she was ready to go. “Aren’t you concerned about making such an offer? What would you do if I asked for something…” he s

Pit Bull Rescued From High-Kill Shelter Really Loves Snuggling, Especially With His Adoptive Dad

Beware the pit bull: he might sit on your lap and refuse to get up.

Show up at one Wisconsin home, and there is a good chance that Kawi the doggie will make himself comfortable somewhere on your person.

“If you stop to sit, he is going to stop and sit on you,” says Meaghan Graves, Kawi’s adoptive mom. “He will snuggle with anyone who is willing to let him on their lap.”

The lap in question, more often than not, belongs to Graves’ husband, Joel, who obviously doesn’t mind Kawi’s rather relentless affection.

Kawi came into the couple’s lives about a year ago, after losing a beloved dog to an autoimmune disease.

Desperately lonely without a canine companion, the pair began their search for a furry someone to help fill that void.

They were especially interested in adopting a pit, since “we knew we could change some peoples’ opinions by being responsible pet owners, and having a vicious pit bull that was only capable of licking and snuggling you to death,” says Graves.

Kawi was perfect for that role.

As a puppy, he’d been taken in by a rescue group, out of a high-kill shelter in the south. Kawi was still itty bitty when his then-foster mom brought him by the Graves’ for a meet-and-greet, to see if he’d be a good match.

On that visit, Kawi sniffed every room, and executed some test nibbles on a few toys.

Then he “made himself comfortable on Joel’s lap,” says Graves. “I think Kawi knew he was the one for us before we even knew it.”

Graves herself also enjoys some dog-on-lap time. As do Kawi’s human grandparents, along with all the friendly folks Kawi encounters out in the world.

“He will cuddle with pretty much anyone who will cuddle with him,” says Graves.”For anyone who may run into us and Kawi, feel free to come say ‘hi.’ He loves the attention, and we love to educate on how great of a dog he is.”

Joel, who is already convinced that Kawi is a good boy, continues to be the dog’s usual perch — except that sometimes the two take to spooning instead, or finagling into an even more pretzel-like position.

“They’re always snuggling,” Graves says, adding that she wouldn’t have minded if Kawi was less demonstrative. But he is, and — you’ll find this obvious, from the photos — she is completely thrilled about how things have turned out.

“Watching his sweet little eyes fade to sleep, and giving him unlimited kisses as Joel or I drift into dreamland, is the most satisfying feeling ever, knowing that this little pup is loved,” she says. “Kawi doesn’t have a miraculous rescue story like you hear on the news. But for us, he still had a journey, and he is now ours, and that is all that matters.”

athleta-derek-lam-10-crosby-collaboration

Whether or not there’s actual science to back it up, I know I’m a lot more likely to head to the gym if I’m excited to put on my workout clothes. The athletic market has been buzzing for a while now, and this morning brought news of a designer teaming up with a fitness brand for a three-season-long collaboration that’s gonna be rad. Drumroll, please…

Athleta and Derek Lam 10 Crosby are collaborating on a range that’ll first hit stores in September (collections will include fall 2015, winter 2015, and spring 2016). Pieces will incorporate the best of both brands, including the two-in-one functionality a lot of 10 Crosby’s garments have and the fabrics that make Athleta’s workout togs so fab; expect leggings, sweats, dresses, and custom sneakers that you can wear from gym to brunch, priced from $ 58 to $ 388.

I’d be excited regardless, but I’m especially jazzed right now. I just bought my first pair of Athleta leggings, and I love the fit and the fun fabric (I got stripes and sheer!).

How much attention do you pay to what you wear to the gym?

Loves, Kerbsides and Goodbyes

Loves, Kerbsides and Goodbyes

Loves Kerbsides and Goodbyes encompasses nearly a decade-and-a-half on the road capturing the nature, characters, emotions and living loose of global backpacking today. Kerbsides are backpackers’ theatres to meet, re-connect, share their lives, fall in love, say goodbye. They are their platforms to perform – strumming outside China tea houses to crowds venerating them like rock stars, gathering an international troubadour on Kuala Lumpur sidewalks to busk for drinks, or outside a 7-11 on that ultimate backpacker kerbside Kaoh San Road, Bangkok. Kerbsides are where backpackers manifest uncomplicated love – treating every day as a minute and a lifetime. It may be a farewell, but it’s no big thing. There’s no lost luggage, cancellations, reservation errors, bad wine or slighted courtesies – just toting backpack, camera and guitar. Busking at borders. Freezing in Mongolia. Shivering in Siberia. Frying in Pakistan. Hitching the Sichuan Highway. Navigating the Rio Napa. Share the heat, cold, stress, discomfort, discovery, pain, danger and elation of life on the road. There’s Indian, Chinese and Thai police interrogations. There’s drugs, exploitation and backpacking hedonism. There are frustrations, elations, tensions and wonderment on long, arduous overland journeys. There’s the adrenalin of high mountain voids, the despair of money scammed in Bolivia’s backblocks, the satisfaction of saving a Swiss life in death-dealing subcontinent heat. There’s broken bones, muggings and robbery because longterm backpacking is challenging and dangerous. Loves Kerbsides and Goodbyes traces the loose, weaving, international travels of a group of backpackers who meet and re-connect as they cross borders, share other cultures and experience countless incidents from tender to humorous to dangerous to perilous. There are no prescriptive do’s and don’ts, or best destination lists – simply the excitement, wonder, dangers and freedoms of backpacking today.

Emma Roberts Reveals Why She Loves Taking Off Her Makeup

When actress Emma Roberts isn’t making waves on FX’s “American Horror Story,” she’s probably pages-deep in her latest book obsession. If anything, you’ve probably seen her latest red carpet wins and her FOMO-worthy Instagram account.

We got the chance to catch up with the Neutrogena Brand Ambassador in New York City, where we talked all things beauty. And while Roberts loves the “idea of a strong brow, great lashes and a red lip,” she delved into a topic that’s been making its rounds in Hollywood lately: no makeup.

Growing up in the limelight, Roberts feels more comfortable in her own, natural skin. “I think I appreciate wearing no makeup than other people, because I have to wear it for work,” she begins, adding, “I really feel like myself and confident without makeup on.”

Roberts applies her no-makeup philosophy to other women, saying that the confidence she harbors from wiping off her mascara and foundation is “something that” she “thinks all girls should feel.” She attributes her thoughts to younger girls as well, highlighting her younger sister as a prime example. Roberts concludes “I just think it’s important to know that you look beautiful without makeup on,” adding that experimentation is great, too.

So, the next time you need an ego boost, it might come down to getting your makeup remover… or that untouched tube of lipstick.

Catch Emma Roberts on “American Horror Story,” which airs Wednesdays, 10 PM EST on FX.

Obama Doesn’t Like Katy Perry — He LOVES Her

We have an important clarification to make: President Barack Obama doesn’t like Katy Perry.

He LOVES her.

HuffPost’s Jen Bendery was the pool reporter during an event Thursday in which the president sung the praises of Perry, who would perform that evening at a White House event for the Special Olympics.

“I like Katy Perry,” Bendery’s initial pool report quoted the president as saying. “She is just a wonderful person. I just met her mom, now I know why she’s such a wonderful person.”

Committed to getting the story right, Jen gave the audio another listen and found the president actually has stronger feelings for the “California Gurls” singer-songwriter:

Cabaret: Everybody Loves A Winner Once

I read Michael Riedel’s column in last Friday’s New York Post with the kind of dumbfounded look I have on my face when I see really bad theater that somehow made it to Broadway. I thought: “Could anyone possibly think Cabaret should be eligible for a Tony Award for Best Revival? Could anyone think Michelle Williams would be ineligible?”

As I have written many times, the Tony Awards Administration Committee does what it wants. The rules it is tasked with interpreting are often unclear. In fact, I looked and could not find in the rules language that would explicitly deny Cabaret eligibility. However it seems ridiculous to me that it would be considered. This is a carbon copy production. Roundabout even announced it as such. As per the Roundabout website: “One of Broadway’s greatest productions returns! Alan Cumming (“The Good Wife,” Roundabout’s The Threepenny Opera) reprises his Tony®-winning performance in Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty) and Rob Marshall’s (Nine and Chicago, the films) Tony-winning production of Cabaret.” That’s right, this production already has its Tony. It should not be able to receive another one.

There is sadly precedent for it being eligible. Some of which is from long ago, some of which from not so long ago. The 1976 and 1981 revivals of My Fair Lady come to mind–both nominated for Best Revival (or whatever it was called during those times). The last Les Miserables revival was essentially a remount of the original production, yet it scored a Best Revival nomination anyway. And this issue has actually come up with regards to Cabaret before–the nominated 1987 revival was mostly faithful to the original production (including having the same Master of Ceremonies, which probably sounds familiar by now), but at least it had slight design team differences. Here, according to Roundabout itself, the company is simply bringing back its Tony winner.

What are the Tonys here for if not to honor theatrical creativity? What creativity is there in remounting a production at its original home? A play or musical is not eligible for the Best Play or Musical award if it substantially duplicates a previously presented play or musical. Why is a revival that exactly duplicates a revival capable of being nominated? (The “substantial duplication” language was created to keep producers from claiming barely revised work was “new.” It says that a play or musical can be eligible if it contains “substantially duplicate elements of productions” but only if “the duplicated and the original elements, in their totality, create a new play or musical.” While it was not created for this purpose, I believe its logic holds here. This is not a new revival.)

However, whatever the Administration Committee decides to do with Cabaret as a production, Williams and other new cast members will likely be eligible. “Regardless of whether a production of a play or musical is eligible for a Best Revival category, the elements of the production shall be eligible in those categories in which said elements do not, in the judgment of the Tony Awards Administration Committee, substantially duplicate any prior presentation of the play or musical…” So says the Tony rules. This wording has allowed many actors to be eligible in the past, including Christina Ricci for Time Stands Still and the actors from the return engagement of White Christmas. There has been no change in the language of the rule in recent years. Excluding Williams and her costars (with the exception of Cumming) from the nominations would be an unnecessary slight.

And so it goes every year – there is a fuzzy grey area and the Tony Administration Committee steps in. Last year they broke with tradition and went out on their own a little bit, defying some producers. I hope that continues with regards to Cabaret. A facsimile should not be treated as an award-worthy new entry in the theatrical landscape.

This Couple Really Loves Football — and Their Wedding Proves It

By Jamie Miles for TheKnot.com

This couple really knows how to stick to a theme! I guess it’s easy when you’re both die-hard football fans (she’s a Giants fan; he’s a Red Skins supporter). Everything from the boutonnieres to the cake toppers and even the wedding sign announcing the bride’s walk down the aisle were inspired by this couple’s shared love of the game. But they even went a step further. Rather than exchanging traditional vows, the couple wrote their own:

From preseason through the play-offs and Super Bowl, in good health and injury, despite tackles and fumbles, whether the New York Giants win or lose, I promise to support and always love you in our game of marriage. And take you as my wife.

This couple’s game-day-inspired wedding by Look Wedding Photography is a touchdown. Here’s why:

The Bride wore New York Giants blue shoes.
