Emmanuel Macron Under Fire for Flamboyant Makeup Budget

KEEPING UP APPEARANCES: Not one for sartorial extravagance, when it comes to his wardrobe French President Emmanuel Macron has a go-to uniform of affordable, off-the-rack navy suits by Jonas et Cie. But when it comes to the budget for perfecting his complexion for official engagements, the young leader in his first three months on the job has taken a less modest approach, according to reports in French media.
Local makeup artist Natacha M. submitted invoices totaling 26,000 euros to the general secretariat of the presidency covering her services to Macron for the period, according to a report in Le Point, a weekly magazine covering politics and news.
A spokeswoman for Macron told WWD that the information relayed by Le Point corresponded to “an urgent situation” following the president’s arrival at the Élysée Palace.
“We are putting into place a long-term set-up that will be significantly less expensive than these bills, and less expensive than the system in place during previous presidential terms,” she said.
According to reports, Macron’s predecessor, the thin-haired François Hollande, is said to have paid his makeup artist and hairdresser a monthly net salary of 6,000 euros and 10,000 euros, respectively.
The negative buzz comes as Macron faces a dramatic slump in ratings countrywide since being elected in

Rihanna Meets With French President Emmanuel Macron

POLITICAL PERSUASIONS: What to wear when meeting the French president? Rihanna, for her one-on-one with Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace on Wednesday, opted for a classic yet edgy oversize navy jacket with gray pants with a back panel and matching shirt, accessorized with a Dior Addict handbag with a chain strap and vintage-inspired logo and heels. (Accompanying the singer up the palace steps, First Lady Brigitte Macron went casual chic in skinny jeans, a white short-sleeved jacket and heels.)
Emmanuel Macron, who already met with U2 frontman and activist Bono on Monday, had extended an invitation to Rihanna to discuss France’s funding of international education after she personally messaged him on Twitter in June, according to reports. “Bonjour @Emmanuel Macron, will France commit to #FundEducation?” tweeted the star, who also messaged the leaders of Germany, Argentina and Canada asking about their commitment to support education in the developing world, as founder of the American nonprofit Clara Lionel Foundation.
Last year, she tweeted Macron’s predecessor, François Hollande, and got a reply: “Dear Rihanna, thank you for your commitment. You will receive my detailed response. In fact, education is the first priority.”

First Lady Melania Trump Wears Hervé Pierre Dress for Eiffel Tower Dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and His Wife Brigitte

ALLEZ FRANCE: First Lady Melania Trump counted on Hervé Pierre to not only select her dress for Thursday night’s presidential dinner at Le Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower but he also designed it.
As the guests of French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte, FLOTUS and the President were a foursome dining at chef Alain Ducasse’s Michelin-starred restaurant. Earlier in the day the first ladies visited Notre-Dame Cathedral before taking a short boat ride on the Seine river. Their husbands, meanwhile, were in the Elysée presidential palace hashing out such weighty issues as Syria, Iraq, climate change and counter-terrorism.
Pierre, who also suited up the First Lady for the inaugural balls in January, said his initial idea was a long dress, but tonight’s less formal dress code called for a below-the-knee style. “She asked me to create a dress for this occasion. That was a big deal for me because I am French and I became an American citizen last summer.”
After exchanging different ideas, the pair decided on a sleeveless dress in navy blue and ivory with a red insert – a nod to the colors of both the American and French flags. “It’s not obvious. It wasn’t as though

Melania Trump Chooses Maison Ullens for Brigitte Macron Meeting

BELGIAN SUPPORT: Just as she had chosen the Italian label Dolce & Gabbana for Wednesday’s meeting with Pope Francis in Rome, First Lady Melania Trump once again paid tribute to the host nation by wearing a Belgian designer in Brussels Thursday.
For her first photo-op with French First Lady Brigitte Macron at the Magritte Museum, FLOTUS wore a custom-made belted leather jacket and skirt from Maison Ullens with Manolo Blahnik snakeskin heels. Trump’s suit was made specifically for her trip to Brussels with Maison Ullens’ founder Baroness Myriam Ullens de Schooten and creative director Kim Ullens, according to a company spokeswoman. The Danish Laursen, who previously worked for Christian Lacroix, Azzaro, Elie Saab and Kenzo, designs the collection, worked on sketches based on Trump’s requests.
Trump’s team approached the company since she wanted to wear a Belgian label, a spokeswoman for Maison Ullens said. The company’s founder Ullens de Schooten started the company in 2009 after recognizing the lack of chic travel wear, while traveling. She met the first lady during a fitting. The French Belgian designer focused on knitwear, leather and cashmere pieces including reversible. Trump joins the ranks of such other Maison Ullens shoppers as IMF’s Christine Lagarde, Catherine Deneuve
