Tess Holliday Fired Someone Who Said It Was ‘Impossible’ for Her to Do High Fashion Modeling

Tess Holliday won’t let other people stop her from realizing her dreams.

When someone on her team told the 33-year-old model that it was “impossible” for her to work in high fashion, Holliday fired her — and then did the impossible.

“Someone on my team, at the beginning of this year, emailed me and asked me what my goals were for 2018, and I said I wanted to do high fashion. They responded with saying that it was impossible, and that if the designers aren’t making clothing in my size, then there’s no point in asking the designers,” Holliday said in a video for Cosmopolitan.

“When people tell me that I can’t do something, it makes me want to do it, and I’m incredibly stubborn. So, I fired them.”

And Holliday used her stubbornness to make her high-fashion dreams a reality.

“Since I’ve fired them, I’ve done two high fashion shoots. I’ve shot two major covers, I am continuing to do even cooler stuff in the high fashion world, and basically prove them Please view this post in your web browser to complete the quiz. in like, four months,” she said. “When I prove people wrong that said I could never do high fashion or my critics that don’t believe in me, it feels really damn good.”

The mom of two added that she’s very used to people telling her all the things she can’t do.

“There were a lot of people in my life who thought that I was crazy for going after my dreams,” she said. “I was told that I would never model in the first place. I couldn’t get an agent, no one was interested in representing me, no one was interested in hiring me.”

But Holliday pushed through, and knows she’s making a difference.

“I know that I have selling power, I know that people like seeing bigger bodies and marginalized bodies, because I represent women that you don’t see a lot in media and in print,” she said.

“A lot of people just expect that my life is perfect and everything works out, and the reality is it’s taken so many years, and so much hard work, and so many sacrifices, and I still have to sacrifice so much, and it’s still so much work to even be here, and people still don’t see all the behind-the-scenes,” she added. “If you want to chase your dreams you have to keep going.”

Agent Inc., a New Modeling Platform, Seeks to Disrupt Status Quo

Agent Inc., a new modeling app, looks to disrupt the status quo. The app, which launched last month after two years in beta testing, looks to empower models, efficiently connect them with clients for jobs, and protect their safety — a topic of growing concern.
“We vet the clients the same way we vet the models,” said Mark Willingham, cofounder and chief executive officer of Agent Inc., based in Sherman Oaks, Calif. He said his team does a criminal background check, sex offender checks and validation of identity and verifies their businesses. At present, there are 13,000 models registered on the platform (they must be over 18) and more than 2,000 clients. They are adding between 50 and 100 models and clients a day. The web site is joinagent.com. The app, Agent Inc., is available at the App Store for iOS devices.
“We want massive diversity,” said Willingham, on a visit to New York. In order for a model to be able to be featured on the site, “we have to believe someone will hire you.”

Afef Jnifen Returns to Modeling Roots for Spring Campaigner Linda Farrow

THE EYES HAVE IT: It has been a while since Afef Jnifen headlined a modeling campaign but she agreed to get in front of the camera for Linda Farrow’s spring video.
The poolside set-up is meant to be reminiscent of the jet-set glamour Slim Aarons so often captured in his photographs. Jnifen, an actress and TV presenter, said she had two reasons for returning to her modeling roots. “First of all, Linda Farrow is my favorite eyewear brand since forever. Then I was happy and honored to work with Mariano Vivanco,” she said.
Vivanco’s year is off to a racing start. “He’s currently shooting covers for Harper’s Bazaar U.S. Vogue Russia/Japan/Brazil/Spain, GQ U.K., Man About Town and Ponystep,” a spokesman said. The lensman also handled Mavi’s new spring ad campaign and recently shot Fenty Beauty by Rihanna, Estée Lauder, Kat von D Beauty and Ralph & Russo, among others. For Linda Farrow, Vivanco packed up his camera for a private villa in Europe. While models Cici Xiang and Arnaud Lemaire are often front-and-center lolling by the pool, Jnifen looked a little elusive hidden behind Linda Farrow sunglasses and holding a small dog in the distance. The market for battery powered devices, such as smart-phones or tablets increases rapidly. The trend goes towards smaller and thinner cases. The main challenge is to decrease the power consumption by coincidently shrinking the device size and increasing the efficiency. Micro-electro-mechanical-systems (MEMS) manufactured of silicon, merge cost effective and space saving features as an energy efficient and innovative product. In this work, reversible operated silicon microphones are modeled and optimized towards sound pressure level and total harmonic distortion. The models are described by coupled partial differential equations and solved by the help of the finite element method. Due to the small dimensions of a single acoustic transducer of approximately one millimeter in diameter and two micrometer in thickness, the loudspeaker is manufactured as an eight bit array. The array arrangement opens up the opportunity to drive the speaker in conventional analog driving mode or apply digital sound reconstruction. Geometric nonlinearities such as large deformation, pre-stress or mechanical contact are reflected in the mechanical model and excited electrostatically. By applying the virtual displacement method, the influence of the insulation layer is mapped to the electrostatic force computation. The electrostatic force interacts with the structural mechanics and the membrane starts to oscillate. The electrostatically actuated membrane is coupled to the acoustic model, where the sound pressure level is computed. The challenge in the acoustic propagation computation is on the one hand, the number of unknowns, which can be minimized by using Mortar FEM (non-conforming grids), and on the other hand, in the reflections caused by the bounds of truncating the propagation region. These reflections are minimized with absorbing boundary conditions or a perfectly matched layer surrounding the propagation region. Acoustic results on the single transducer were computed by the fini.

Natalia Castellar Was Bullied For Her Eyebrows, Then They Launched Her Modeling Career

Our unique features make us beautiful, but it can be hard to see them that way.

As a kid growing up in Virginia, Natalia Castellar was bullied “terribly” for her long, thick eyebrows. The Puerto Rican-born 17-year-old says things got so bad, she almost shaved them down.

“I had a lot of self-esteem issues,” Castellar told HuffPost. “It was very difficult for me to embrace myself.”

Thanks to a supportive family, Castellar gradually learned to love her brows. Then her sister posted shots of her on a photography blog, W reports, and a fan base grew. Castellar recently signed a modeling contract with the influential agency Next Models.

The eyebrows she once saw as a blemish are now her defining feature. 

“My eyebrows are a total advantage,” Castellar said. “They aren’t the only thing that make me a great model, but they play a huge role in attracting attention from both fans and potential clients.”

So far, Castellar has modeled for Nars and Mansur Gavriel, with more projects on the way. She says fans are often surprised to learn that her signature brows require so little maintenance

“Many people assume that I have an eyebrow routine that I follow, but I really don’t do anything besides brush them,” she told W Magazine.

Castellar also makes it a point to tell her followers that insecurities are normal; it’s how you think about them that counts.

“We need to realize that just because someone’s beauty is different than our own doesn’t mean we’re not beautiful,” she told HuffPost. “We need to embrace our diversity and celebrate what makes us, us!”

Rob Kardashian’s Newborn Daughter Dream Looks Angelic Modeling His ‘Santa Baby’ Socks

Rob Kardashian just celebrated his daughter Dream‘s first Thanksgiving, and he’s already excited for his Santa baby’s first Christmas.

The new dad shared an adorable video of his two-week-old on Instagram Friday, modeling his festive Arthur George baby socks. “@dream loves her new @arthurgeorge87 SANTA BABY kids socks!!” Kardashian, 29, captioned the clip. “Can’t wait for her first Christmas.”

Laying in a red container decorated with Saint Nick’s belt, Dream was dressed in an all white ensemble accessorized with a color coordinated pompom headband.

The same video was shared on the newborn’s Instagram account with the caption, “I love my new @ArthurGeorge87 socks from daddy!!!”

Kardashian and fiancée Blac Chyna welcomed their first child together on Nov. 10 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The new addition joins big brother King Cairo, Chyna’s 4-year-old son with ex Tyga.

“Rob is getting used to taking care of his daughter. He was a little nervous at first because she is so tiny,” a source previously told PEOPLE . “He seems very eager to learn how to care for her. He is changing diapers and very hands on.”

Adding, “He keeps saying that Dream is the most beautiful baby he has ever seen.”

Kardashian and Chyna will be sharing the events surrounding baby Dream’s arrival in E!’s hour-long Rob & Chyna Baby Special, airing Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. ET.

There was a time when the world just knew Bella Hadid as little sister to Gigi, but, my, how things have changed.
