Sad Dog Found Tied to Lamppost with Note from Old Owner Now Ready for a New, Loving Home

It was’t long ago that 8-year-old Sasha was found tied to a lamppost near a medical complex in Clayton, North Carolina.

Tucked into the sad dog’s collar was a note from whoever abandoned the animal, asking that he be given to a “loving home.” Thought the note did not mention why Sasha was surrendered this way, it did mention all the things that make Sasha a great dog: He enjoys head pets, gets along with children and “absolutely loves steaks.”

A cute canine like Sasha didn’t stay tied to the lamppost for long. Joy Frannicola, who is currently caring for the dog, told PEOPLE via email that she was contacted by someone at the medical complex about the lonely pet.

Frannicola is the founder of Ruf Creek Ranch Animal Rescue, an animal rescue and adoption center based in Smithfield, North Carolina. By the time she learned about Sasha, the dog had already been picked up by Johnston County Animal Services and was under a mandatory 72-hour stray hold.

An experienced animal rescuer, Frannicola called up shelter supervisor Graham Price and worked with him to assess Sasha’s health and temperament.

“He was underweight, somewhat lethargic and had hair loss from what we found was a flea allergy,” Frannicola said of what Sasha’s initial check-up revealed. The pup was obviously quite sad, too.

That frown soon turned upside down, however. Thanks to Frannicola and Price’s efforts, along with the assistance from Willowrun Veterinary Hospital, Sasha’s hair is growing back. He has also been neutered, brought up to date on his shots and dewormed.

His heart is healing, too: at Frannicola’s rescue, Sasha is receiving plenty of affection, regular walks and the opportunity to meet new animal friends. Now the only thing that is missing from this pooch’s life is the right forever home.

“He has not been adopted yet. Because of his history (as we know it), we are looking for a specific type of home for him.  He gets along with other dogs, but we would rather he be placed in a situation where he can have a one-on-one relationship with his human, and not have to share affection,” Frannicola said, adding that Sasha recently moved in with his foster mom, Lorna, who hopes to become the dog’s “furever” mom.

“He is curious about his new surroundings, very eager to please. He loves to go on walks and have his head and ears rubbed. He is affectionate, and wants to be near his human. He would be the perfect companion for an older person or couple. Very low maintenance,” Sasha’s hero added about the many traits that make him a wonderful companion.

It is still unclear why someone would leave behind such a sweet dog like Sasha, but Frannicola knows firsthand that pet surrender is not uncommon.

“I cannot begin to think of the reasons his family abandoned him, but the fact that he was left with the note shows that they did care for him and wanted the best for him. The economy here in North Carolina is not good. People are surrendering their pets to county shelters in record numbers,” she said. “Most of the shelters are posting that they are full, and if pets are owner-surrendered, they will most likely be euthanized because of space issues. I am hoping that he was left like he was because they knew the possibility of him being euthanized if surrendered to a shelter.”

Frannicola suggests pet owners who find themselves in this difficult situation reach out to local rescues and no-kill shelters. Rescue groups can likely provide food and supplies to families struggling to keep their pets, and can help owners find fosters or adopters if necessary.

Harleys Men’s Store Sold to Haberdasher Owner

Tim Ryan has found his white knight.
The owner of Harleys, a men’s specialty store in Shorewood, Wis., a suburb of Milwaukee, has sold the business to a fellow retailer from Green Bay, Wis.
On Monday, Ryan said he has completed the asset purchase for an undisclosed sum to Dan Wickman of Haberdasher Ltd. that will keep Harleys and its staff in business.
In January, Ryan, 69, kicked off a retirement sale as he sought to find a new owner for the business. The decision to sell came after being diagnosed nearly three years ago with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a rare protein-deficiency disease that affects the lungs.
He had planned to retire at 70 but decided to “accelerate the process.”
Whitman, a Green Bay native, approached Ryan and started a conversation to ensure that the business “would be a good fit,” he said. “I knew Tim was getting out of the business and Harleys is a staple in Milwaukee, so it just made sense.”
This is a similar story to the one that got him into the retail business three years ago when Haberdasher’s owner was also looking to retire and seeking an exit strategy. Wickman said his family had shopped at the store for decades and

Harleys’ Tim Ryan Seeking New Owner for Men’s Store

Tim Ryan may be getting ready to call it a career, but he’s determined that Harleys survive.
The owner of the respected Shorewood, Wisc., men’s specialty store on Wednesday kicked off a retirement sale as he seeks a new owner for the business.
“Two and a half years ago, I was diagnosed with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a rare protein deficiency disease that affects my lungs,” he said. “It’s like COPD, but it’s genetic. So it’s thanks to my parents, not my lifestyle. I can still run and cycle, but I can no longer do marathons or century bike rides. It’s treatable, but it’s a distraction and it alters my lifestyle.”
So Ryan, who will turn 69 in June, said he decided to fast-track his plan to retire at 70 and “accelerate the process.”
“I decided with the first quarter always being the worst quarter, I’d announce the retirement and bolster the business,” he said. “And it’ll help me pay some bills.”
Ryan said he is in serious discussions with a couple of potential purchasers but doesn’t have a timetable on when a sale might happen. “Once it’s a done deal, I’ll make it public,” he said. “Right now, I’m bound by non-disclosure agreements.”
But one thing’s for

Raiders owner to Las Vegas: Build it and we will come (Yahoo Sports)

FILe - In this Feb. 11, 2016 file photo, Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis speaks during a media conference in Oakland, Calif. Raiders owner Mark Davis says he wants to move the team to Las Vegas and is willing to spend a half billion dollars as part of a deal for a new stadium in the city. Davis upped the ante in a bid to move the team to this gambling city, appearing Thursday, April 28, 2016, alongside soccer great David Beckham and billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson before a committee studying the idea of a $ 1.4 billion stadium. (AP Photo/Ben Margot, File)

Mark Davis was beaming as he posed with fans behind a black and silver ”Las Vegas Raiders” banner. Then the owner of the Raiders got serious about the prospects of getting fellow NFL owners to allow him to move from Oakland to a city the league has long shunned because it has legal sports betting. Little more than an idea a few months ago, the possibility of the Raiders moving to Las Vegas inched a bit closer to reality Thursday when Davis appeared before a stadium commission to not only pledge to move the Raiders to the city, but put $ 500 million into the $ 1.4 billion facility that would house the team.

This Video Game Perfectly Depicts The Struggles Of Every Cat Owner

“We piss you off, but you love us anyway.” — the motto of cats everywhere.

Which is why Will Herring‘s video game, “My Garbage Cat Wakes Me Up at 3 a.m. Every Day,” is so great. The game, which can be played on your desktop, allows you to fulfill the role of Herring’s cat. The objective is to knock everything over and wake up your poor, sleeping human.

Because that’s just what our feline friends do.

In addition to knocking everything over, you can “meow and cry all the time” and “knead with your dumb little paws,” the instructions announce. As you destroy your human’s apartment, you will deplete his sleep meter. When the meter runs out, the human begrudgingly admits defeat and says exactly what cat owners are all quietly wondering to themselves — “Why are you this way.”

Of course, cat owners love their furry friends, and would probably follow them to the ends of the Earth. But sometimes it’s just nice to turn the tables and experience a feline’s glorious, needy life.

To play “My Garbage Cat Wakes Me Up at 3 a.m. Every Day,” visit the game’s website here.
