Confindustria Moda, Mittelmoda Ink Partnership

MILAN — Confindustria Moda, the Italian federation made up of around 67,000 companies in fashion, textiles and accessories, and the country’s fashion contest International Lab of Mittelmoda have announced they’re partnering to further promote young talents.
Signed on Wednesday at Confindustria Moda’s headquarters in Milan by the organization’s president Claudio Marenzi and Matteo Marzotto, president of Mittelmoda International Lab, the partnership will allow the latter to extend the 26th edition of its “Fashion Awards” talent search to handbag, footwear, eyewear, textile and accessories designers, in addition to apparel.
“This partnership injects a breath of fresh air and hope. We’ve had a brilliant past and we’ve been supported over the past 25 years by institutional local and regional partners,” said Marzotto, who joined the talent search 11 years ago. “We try to find talents at the source, by scouting them in fashion schools, seeking for those who have the right skills and DNA to create fashion.”
As part of the deal, the award event will be held on Sept. 16 and hosted by Milan’s footwear trade show Micam, whose organizer, Assocalzaturifici, is one of Confindustria Moda’s associates. This is a return to the city for the award ceremony, which was held in Milan first in

Engineered Garments Continues Partnership With Doc Martens

Doc Martens is renewing its partnership with Engineered Garments.
The footwear brand is working with Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki, who founded the brand in 1999, to update the 3989 5-eye brogue. Suzuki, who is known for collecting vintage clothing, mixed five different types of leather — croc, pebble and suede — to construct the shoes, which also feature yellow welt stitching, a Docs signature and an air-cushioned sole. The shoes, which are available now in black and brown, retail for $ 230.
The brand has focused more on implementing comfort and performance into its collections. Last year it launched a WinterGrip collection built for cold weather elements.
“As a footwear brand we are always looking to innovate and bring new technologies to market. This was a great opportunity to combine our classic Dr. Martens styling with a modern, functional WinterGrip technology to the outsole,” said Sam Breese, head of product in the Americas.

Converse Extends Partnership With Vince Staples

Vince Staples wanted to do something different.
Although he’s known for wearing Chuck Taylors, the 25-year-old artist from Long Beach, Calif., wanted to update a lesser-known silhouette from the Converse archives: the Thunderbolt, a sneaker that pulls from the brand’s history with running sneakers, which dates back to the 1900s.
“You have the Chuck and the One Star and it was just time to work with a shoe that a lot of people aren’t designing for the brand,” said Staples. “Me being the kind of person I am, I wanted to see what I could do with another silhouette.”
Staples worked with Converse designer Brook Bergland and team on the collection. The sneaker, which comes in a cream and black colorway that Staples said originated from the demo sneaker and they decided to keep it. It retails for $ 110. He also worked on an apparel capsule that includes a varsity jacket, a sweatshirt and track pants — each covered with “Run.” The line retails from $ 350 to $ 90.

Undefeated Forges Partnership With Esports

Esports is tapping into streetwear.
The gaming league has teamed with Undefeated, a sneaker and streetwear retailer based in Los Angeles, to create a jersey for the New York Excelsior, which is New York City’s first professional eSports franchise. It is one of the 12 founding franchises of Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch League, which is owned by Sterling.VC, a venture capital fund supported by Sterling Equities.
“Excelsior wanted to create a unique approach to team apparel,” said Collette Gangemi, the head of merchandise and consumer products for the New York Excelsior. “Most eSports apparel is semi-juvenile. I was brought on to take more of a streetwear collaboration approach. When you are starting a league in New York and trying to build a community, having apparel that people can buy into helps that.”
Undefeated has worked with EA Sports on an NBA Live 18 event, but this is its first time partnering with eSports. James Bond, the cofounder of Undefeated, sees overlap in the streetwear and gaming communities.

Prabal Gurung: Partnership With Selfridges Extends Past Fashion

Prabal Gurung is making his debut in the London retail scene.
The New York-based designer has partnered with Selfridges, which launched the brand’s spring 2017 collection earlier this month, and was in town to celebrate the launch with an intimate dinner cohosted by Tank magazine’s Caroline Issa.
Gurung said he found the perfect partner in Selfridges, not only because of the high caliber of the store but also because its buying team stood behind the political message he has been trying to communicate with his latest collection.
“The store is very dear to me and home to many great designers, but it was also very important that they were supportive of the message I want to pass with my collections and the values of my brand. We live in really unsettling times and this isn’t something that you can do alone,” the designer said.

Cotton Inc. Ups Performance Angle With PurThread Partnership

It’s a good day for workout warriors — and their nearby partners-in-sweat. Cotton Incorporated recently announced its alliance with PurThread. Under the union, cotton knit and woven fabrics will have its antimicrobial technology embedded, which protects against odor-causing bacteria.
PurThread has cultivated technology that integrates EPA-registered recycled silver salts into staple fiber and filament yarn at the extrusion level, according to the announcement. “This lends permanent fabric protection from odor-causing bacteria, mold, mildew and fungus, yielding antimicrobial benefits that do not wash away or wear off for the life of the fabric,” the company said. In even better news for brands and retailers: The technology does not affect physical properties or the characteristics of the fabric. It provides uniform colors while enforcing antiodor properties.
“Consumers know and love cotton, and they have come to expect performance technologies like odor control in their athletic apparel. The continued growth of the ath-leisure category creates an ideal opportunity to expand established athletic apparel performance technologies to additional categories, such as denim,” explained Mark Messura, Cotton Inc. senior vice president of global supply chain marketing. The fabrics created through this collaboration maintain the look and feel of cotton and add long-lasting antiodor properties. The PurThread technology

Tailored Brands Results Hurt by Failing Macy’s Partnership

The marriage between Macy’s and Tailored Brands is on the rocks.
At the same time that it reported sales declines for fiscal 2016 and warned of another tough year ahead, Tailored Brands revealed that its tuxedo rental initiative at Macy’s Inc. has failed to perform up to expectations.
Wall Street was quick to punish the company, pushing its stock down $ 7.53, or 32 percent, Thursday to close at $ 15.84 on the New York Stock Exchange.
In mid-2015, the men’s wear retailer inked a deal with Macy’s to open tuxedo rental shops inside 300 stores. By the end of 2016, Tailored Brands had opened 170 shops.
However, during a conference call with analysts, Douglas Ewert, chief executive officer of Tailored Brands, said: “The results we’ve seen thus far have been disappointing. We anticipated start-up losses of $ 10 million during 2016, which grew to $ 14 million, due in part to most of our stores missing the bulk of the wedding season.
“Based on last year’s results and the early reads on 2017, we now believe that the tux rental opportunity with Macy’s is not likely to be as big as we initially thought. We’re in conversations with Macy’s at the highest levels to look at creating a

THE STRIPES HAVE IT: With activism very much in vogue these days, Marimekko is reigniting its commitment to women’s empowerment through a partnership with the women’s rights organization Equality Now.
Through the end of February, Marimekko will donate $ 10 from the sale of each of its Tasaraita-printed garment to the group that supports human rights of women and girls globally. First designed in 1968 by Marimekko designer Annika Rimala, the even stripe collection was meant to be a symbol of equality. Created when jeans were becoming increasingly popular with women and men, her intention was to create timeless garments that would suit anyone regardless of age, size or gender. Current options include the “Lyhythiha” jersey cotton short-sleeve shirt at $ 95 and the “Tuika” long-sleeve dress at $ 265. The initiative is planned for the company’s U.S. stores and its e-commerce site.
The company decided to celebrate the meaning of Tasaraita by supporting Equality Now, which is in sync with Marimekko’s heritage of furthering women’s empowerment. Ninety four percent of the Finnish sportswear, textiles and home goods employees are women. Marimekko president and chief executive officer Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko said Wednesday that the brand has “empowered people around the world to be true to who they

Excerpt: Public/social/private partnerships are methods of co-operation between private and government bodies. The name public social private partnership (PSPP) is a development of Public Private Partnership (PPP). PPP is one expression of a strong trend towards (re)privatisation, which in some European countries has arisen as a result of more difficult economic conditions in recent years and the associated structural crisis in the public sector (see Eschenbach, Mller, Gabriel: 1993). The growth in public-private partnerships as a way of fulfilling public tasks in partnership between the state administration and private enterprises must be seen in this context. In political discussions, lack of public funds is often put forward as a limit on state activities. Instead of financing infrastructure projects alone, the government increasingly looks to cooperations with private investo… More: http://booksllc.net/?id=11035414

Tracy McMillan, Relationship Expert, On The Key To Finding Your Spiritual Partnership (VIDEO)

Relationship expert Tracy McMillan, author of the blog “Why You’re Not Married,” uses a simple two-word prayer to help her make decisions in life. In the above clip from her appearance on “Super Soul Sunday,” she shares how it also helps her to let go of the people who aren’t meant to be in her life.

“Prayer is a big part of my spiritual practice and my prayers are very simple,” McMillan says. “It will be a prayer like this: Show me. Show me what you want me to do. Use me.

“Whenever I’m at a decision point in my life, it’ll be like I’m just going to open my hand and if it’s supposed to go away or if the wind is supposed to come along and blow whatever it is off my hand, let it go.”

McMillan takes the same approach to her relationships. She says that if you’re truthful with a partner about what you want and that causes them to leave, let them go. “It’s because they’re not for you,” she says. “You want them to go away sooner rather than later.”

“Absolutely,” Oprah agrees. “So many people are afraid that if I actually just tell the truth, then I’ll be alone and I won’t find anybody else. And this was my one chance.”

Tracy says the opposite will happen. “In fact, unless you tell the truth, you won’t find that spiritual partnership. Because the spiritual partnership is based on the truth.”

“Super Soul Sunday” airs Sundays at 11 a.m. ET on OWN.
