Kanye West Shares Sweet Father-Son Weekend with Saint in Chicago — See the Pictures!

Saint West knows how to make the most of a father-son weekend!

Days after announcing his intent to move back to Chicago, Kanye West took his middle child Saint out to the ballgame in the Windy City.

On Sunday, the rapper, 41, brought 2-year-old Saint onto the field before the Chicago Cubs faced the Chicago White Sox. In a White Sox jersey and sweatpants, West held Saint, who was decked out in a red and black ensemble, and waved to the crowd.

On Instagram, the proud father shared a picture of himself beaming as Saint threw a ball. He wrote, “happy Sunday.”

This weekend has been full of treats for Saint, who accompanied his dad to Sugar Factory in Chicago’s River North area for dinner on Saturday.

At Sugar Factory, Saint, who arrived in a black jogging outfit and Vans, noshed on rainbow sliders and chicken fingers. On his way out, he took home quite a haul: a giant Hershey’s chocolate bar, nostalgia candy boxes, sports pillows, candy fans and a birthday girl basket.

Wearing white jeans, a green shirt and his signature Yeezys, West shared a fun picture from the hour-long visit on Twitter and Instagram. In the snap, West and Saint smiled in a mirror in front of their meal.

“When you at the sugar factory make sure you get that mirror shot,” West captioned the picture. “This is not a paid post.”

Saint’s mom, Kim Kardashian West, was not quite as amused by Saint’s sugary diet as the boys were. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, 37, replied to West on Twitter, “Ummm what is our son eating for dinner?!?!”

On the Instagram photo, which Kardashian West’s sister Kylie Jenner liked, her stepbrother Brandon Jenner commented, “Love it.”

At OpenMike, an event for Chicago high schoolers hosted by Chance the Rapper, West said that he is going to move back to the city where he grew up and started his career.

“I’ve got to let you all know that I’m moving back to Chicago,” West said in a video obtained by TMZ. “And I’m never leaving again.”

A source told PEOPLE that Kardashian West is not worried that West is actually going to relocate.

“Kanye has a tendency though to change his mind quickly, so she is just going along with his plans because it makes him happy,” the source explained. “Next week, something else might make him happier.”

Another insider said to PEOPLE, “He changes his mind like he changes his underwear.”

Turn Your Breastfeeding Pictures Into Masterpieces With This New Trend

In a creative and colorful celebration, moms are highlighting the beauty of breastfeeding

A new trend has popped up on Instagram called the #TreeOfLife. Thanks to an app called PicsArt, moms can edit their #brelfies (breastfeeding selfies) and add images of trees from Google search or from the app’s “Tree of Life” sticker pack. Users can also add “magic effects” to make the edited images more colorful.

Beth Morlino created her #TreeOfLife image with a photo that shows her breastfeeding her 2-year-old. The New Jersey mom told The Huffington Post she made the image so she could help normalize breastfeeding and celebrate her bond with her son.

“I decided to do a #TreeOfLife image because this picture represents what breastfeeding means to me: beauty, nourishment, bonding and growth for both my son and myself,” she said.

Natalia Vodianova, a model who has shared breastfeeding photos on Instagram before, also joined the fun. In the caption of her #TreeOfLife Instagram post, she wrote that she took part in the trend to “illustrate the deep roots of care and love.”

Other moms have gotten creative with their pics by using various colors, effects, angles and captions. Some mamas have taken the #TreeOfLife trend even further with photos of themselves pumping and bottle-feeding, proving that there is no one right way to feed their kids.

Born in South Texas in the 1920s, conjunto has become popular throughout the United States, Mexico, and, of late, Europe and Japan. But Texas remains the heart of conjunto music making. Indeed, the largest conjunto festival in the world is the Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio, founded in 1982.Puro Conjunto! is a wide-ranging collection of writings taken from the festival’s program magazine, Tonantzin. These writings include scholarly essays, articles by journalists and music critics, interviews with legendary performers, autobiographical accounts, short stories, and poetry. Their subjects include the history of conjunto music, its signature instruments, the social context and functions of conjunto, and personal histories of conjunto music giants. Most of these pieces have never been published elsewhere. Photos and full-color reproductions of the festival posters accompany the text. Art Therapy Is More Than Just Making Nice Pictures

Anyone who has ever put pen to paper, crayon to coloring book, or hand to wet clay knows the healing powers embedded in such creative endeavors. More than just a pastime, art can be an escape, a stimulus, a war cry or a tranquil reprieve.

Art therapy, defined as “a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its primary mode of communication,” revolves around this principal of art’s immense power. Open to children and adults of any background and experience, the still-evolving field explores modes of expression, understanding and healing that occur when paint touches canvas. While too many schools today run under the assumption that art is extraneous, a diversion from traditional academic subjects, art therapists know better. They know that art has the potential to change lives, and, even to save them.

Tally Tripp is the art therapy clinic director of George Washington University, specializing in individuals who have experienced trauma. Entering the field in its nascent phase, in the 1970s, Tripp was elemental in shaping the field as we know it today.

Continuing The Huffington Post’s coverage of the often misunderstood field that is art therapy, and the pioneers who continue to sculpt it, we reached out to Tripp to discuss the details of her career’s past and present.

How did you become interested in art therapy? How did you learn about the field?

When I first learned about art therapy it was definitely a field in its infancy. Personally, I have always loved art making and combined that with an interest in working with people. In high school I spent summers in New York working for the Children’s Aid Society with disadvantaged children in a camp program. It was there, as a counselor in the arts and crafts program, I came across one of the original art therapy journals: the Bulletin of Art Therapy (edited by Elinor Ulman and produced between 1961-1970).

For many years, that journal was the only art therapy publication available. At the same time, in 1971, Elinor Ulman and her colleague, psychologist Bernard Levy started an art therapy program at the George Washington University. Pretty quickly my goal became to study art therapy in the master’s program at GW, which I did between 1978 and 1981. Now, full circle, I am a full time professor in the art therapy program at GW and the director of the GW Art Therapy Clinic.

How did art therapy look when you first immersed yourself in it?

In the late 1970s, art therapy was still an emerging profession. It was definitely an exciting time for the field as we students were taught by some of the early pioneers: Elinor Ulman, Edith Kramer and Hanna Kwiatkowska — innovative thinkers developing clinical approaches that were based largely on intuition coupled with psychoanalytic thinking that was popular at the time. Also in those days there were few texts or research studies on art therapy to guide us, so we learned primarily by our experiences and our clinical work. As art therapy was a relatively unknown profession, we all put time and effort into spreading the word and educating others about its value.

The field is more established now, and more often than not, people have heard of art therapy and have some understanding of how it works. Art therapists now have licenses in some states as well as levels of professional credentialing and board certification. Beyond that, we have a lot of art therapy literature at our fingertips including research studies supporting the efficacy of art therapy and describing how it is utilized across many settings and populations. Art therapists can now be found in various settings — from medical and psychiatric hospitals, to schools, geriatric facilities, community and studio settings, and in private practice.

What are your areas of interest in the field?

I have maintained a private practice in art therapy for over 30 years. My specialization is working with individuals who have experienced trauma. I find these clients are excellent candidates for art therapy precisely because the art can provide a means for expressing the inexpressible feelings that are often shut down or pushed away from consciousness in response to traumatic events. It has been exciting in the last 25 years to see that neuroscience research has validated the kind of work we do. Through brain imagery, we now know that the cognitive and executive functioning of the brain is for the most part “off line” when people are recalling their traumas, rendering them essentially “speechless.” This helps explain why traditional verbal therapy is often not enough when working with trauma, and why art (imagery) and other experiential therapies are so effective.

I reached out to you in part because of Suicide Awareness Month. In your private practice do you work with many patients grappling with suicidal thoughts? What are some of the methods you practice in such circumstances?

Any therapist in private practice will have to deal with patients who are struggling with suicidal thoughts from time to time. Negative beliefs and hopelessness can render the individual helpless to combat the urge for self-harm. To work with suicidal thoughts, a clinician must first assess how developed the plan is, and, if the patient is truly in imminent danger of self-harm, hospitalization may be required. But hospitalization has its limits and is only one step.

Beyond the immediate safety needs, I work on resourcing my patients to help them develop other coping strategies so that they can better manage their feelings and find alternate responses. Some interventions might include creating a safety plan with a hierarchy of actions to take, or to come up with a list of resources that can be quickly accessed when the suicidal impulse arises, or helping with a variety of cognitive and behavioral restructuring techniques, or perhaps increasing the frequency of therapy sessions, etc. Sometimes I will recommend a soothing art activity for “homework” such as working in an art coloring book or journal, that can assist with a person feeling grounded and safe. Art can soothe anxiety and help with re-focusing attention to something more positive and less destructive than a suicidal plan.

Are most of the patients you encounter already involved in art? Are they ever skeptical?

It is true that most people think of going to an art therapist because they enjoy making art and are already involved in it somehow. But that is not the only kind of person who will benefit from art therapy.

For example, one man I worked with was also being seen in marriage therapy and was referred to me because it was determined that he needed to access more emotional depth. This man had no apparent interest in art, but agreed to see me as an experiment because art therapy had been recommended. I invited him to work on a picture of simply lines and shapes and just “see what happens.” His first picture, a simple downward sloping line was created in a matter of seconds. But when we held the “picture” up and explored it from a distance, he became struck by the downward motion and then exclaimed: “This is exactly what I have been trying to describe. It looks like my mother’s lap. Empty. She was never able to really hold me!” The image and description of not being held as a child became a fundamental theme in our work together. And within a few months, this patient enrolled in a painting class and began a new appreciation for art.

Can you explain what you hope to achieve with a suicidal patient through art therapy? What changes are you looking to make?

Often the artwork will convey a suicidal feeling of hopelessness or despair long before words are consciously available. The image can provide a means for discussing feelings that are either unclear or difficult to verbalize. Art works tend to be self-referential so we work actively with the images and themes that are produced.

For example, an image of a desolate landscape might signal an empty feeling and suicidal state in the artist. While I do not interpret the image, the patient and I will work together to explore the metaphor and any personal meaning or feelings that are attached. Because the picture is something we can look at together, it gives both artist and therapist an opportunity to “do” something with it. Art therapy can empower the individual to find a solution or create a “preferable ending” in the art. It is interesting to note that creating artwork that challenges the initial feelings of hopelessness will actually affect the neural firing in the brain. The more practice a person has exploring “preferable endings” for example, the more this will result in the brain finding alternatives to self-destructive behavior. So making art can be a good practice for seeking solutions and reducing negative thoughts.

Is there a certain type of patient you think is more suited to art therapy as opposed to other therapy methods?

Anyone who is willing to explore feelings through the process of making art can benefit from art therapy. Some people will naturally be drawn to this kind of therapy — children in particular where their natural language is through art and play.

Adolescents are also good candidates for art therapy because they may be resistant to traditional talk therapies and usually will enjoy working with art materials. I work with adults, however, and maintain that they are still children inside, as it is often an adult embodying that child state coming in to my office. The art helps bypass the defense and intellectualization inherent in verbal language. When a new (adult) patient is referred to me, I often start by asking, “Why do you think art therapy will help?” Right there, I am getting an alliance with the patient by suggesting that I believe that the experiential and creative nature of making art, in the company of an attuned art therapist, will make a difference.

What makes art therapy so powerful?

Art therapy is more than just making nice pictures. In fact, art therapy is more often a process of making ugly or messy pictures that depict a feeling state, not a final product that is all neat and tied together. Art therapy is about that creative process where the client, in the company of an art therapist, is working and re working problems via a range of fluid and variable art materials.

In private practice, I find the spontaneously created art pieces are the most meaningful and often help a person find resolution for specific traumatic experiences. The benefit occurs when the art made facilitates a sense of mastery over the problem. For example, a patient who has experienced years of abuse or neglect in childhood may be able to finally express feelings that had been avoided or pushed out of conscious awareness because they were overwhelming at the time. The images often speak more loudly than words. With the encouragement of the art therapist, difficult feelings can be expressed through making art.

The process varies widely so there is no one way to describe what happens in a session. When a person first faces a blank piece of paper, there might be some resistance or hesitancy to explore feelings so the resultant images may appear tight and controlled as in a line drawing or pencil sketch. But after some trust is established in the therapeutic relationship, the art process can move towards more expressive activity, which would suggest the patient is accessing stronger emotion. Often the patient will begin experimenting with more evocative materials at that point, for example using paint or clay to express feelings like anger, shame or fear. The art therapist is knowledgeable about psychological problems and the use of various art media; the process is flexible and individually focused to support the patient to find materials and techniques that connect with the issues at hand. And as a patient becomes more open to the process and discovers more creative resources within, the art product will also change. In art therapy, there is always that creative edge that keeps the process dynamic and contributes to the process of healing.

No One Is Looking At Your Fireworks Pictures

Every year in July, Americans wearing their washed-out flag shirts from 2000 that they’ve kept because they only wear them once per year (unless they recently painted their living room) gather together on an open field with picnic blankets and folding chairs to partake in the Sisyphean task of capturing the best moments of a fireworks show on camera. In a poll conducted by the United States Wasting Time Foundation (USWTF), when presented with a list of most patriotic pastimes, 73% of respondents chose “trying to take good pictures at a fireworks show on the 4th of July” over “listening to Bob Dylan,” “attending a baseball game and actually staying until the ninth inning,” and “proudly singing the chorus to ‘American Pie,’ but mumbling through every other verse.”

Human beings have a long history of being interested in capturing these temporal bursts of color in a format they can keep forever, but ironically never look at these photos after July 5th of the year the photo was taken. So dire was this need to immortalize fireworks on our memory cards and overcrowded photo libraries on our phones that camera manufacturers had to have an important meeting.

Leading Camera Manufacturer: “The people want to be able to take pictures of fireworks.”

More Expensive Leading Camera Manufacturer: “But a dark sky combined with a colorful explosive that’s at it’s most photogenic for about two seconds? For the amateur photographer, it’s impossible to get a good shot!”

Leading Camera Manufacturer: “You’re right…”

Shady Camera Manufacturer Conglomerate That Also Sells Appliances and Frozen Foods: “Well, why don’t we try to develop a fireworks setting to match the snow and pet settings we rolled out…”

More Expensive Leading Camera Manufacturer: “That’s a great idea!”

Shady Camera Manufacturer Conglomerate That Also Sells Appliances and Frozen Foods: “Only let’s make sure it doesn’t work so all the fireworks just look like the outtakes from an acid trip at an EDM festival.”

And so the camera setting became standard on many point and shoot digital cameras.

2015-07-02-1435859522-2681569-1.jpg

I’m no better than any of you. There are a number of fireworks pictures buried in my Facebook photo albums. Every July I promise myself that this will be the year I’ll give up the pursuit of taking one Great fireworks picture, but I keep trying anyway, with marginal success.

2015-07-02-1435859382-9124819-2.png

2015-07-02-1435859424-3748021-3.png

2015-07-02-1435859454-4548607-4.png

But I can see the Great Picture in my mind. The photo is clear and crisp and worthy of a special edition stamp! I would catch one of those huge red, white, and blue asterisks at its fullest in the sky–the kind you can tell by the nnneeeeeeeeeeoow BOOOOM that you’re going to have to crane your neck back to see just how far it stretches into the atmosphere. This sublime could-be photo is the Moby Dick of my summer every year, but the true paradox of my quest is that I am literally the only person in the entire world who cares about taking, seeing, or sharing this picture.

This may be hard for some people to hear, but it needs to be said before we all miss out on reveling in the swell of pride only Kate Perry’s “Firework” can summon at a fireworks display: No one is looking at your fireworks pictures. Maybe your boring family members will, and maybe a few of the people you’re trying to impress with your existence on social media will idly glance at them, but at the end of the day, no one lives for fireworks pictures. People don’t even really like them. They just exist, and we keep adding to the library of useless fireworks pictures every year.

Fireworks pictures are all about the chase. You’re on the ground getting eaten alive by mosquitos sitting between some guy telling his grandson about a war he served in and a nauseating couple watching the entire show in each other’s eyes, and the music picks up and the explosives start firing off faster, and a tiny thought wiggles its way out of a pocket of your brain saying, “Capture this!!!! You need to get this!!! Look at how cool this is!! Don’t you want to keep this to look at this in November???” So you spend the entire fireworks display waiting for the best shot after too many misfires, and by the time its over, you’ve got 37 shaky-handed pictures that look like they could easily be a streetlight captured by a photographer with epilepsy.

Unlike your very best selfies or your enviable vacation pictures, no one is interested in revisiting fireworks photos. When it comes to holidays whose pictures you’re most likely to look at again later in the year, Fourth of July comes last, and it’s not because fireworks are lame; it’s because fireworks are at their best when you see them live. I’m not one to admonish people for wanting to keep a memento of life’s sweetest moments (#picsoritdidnthappen), but in the case of fireworks, it’s really best to put the camera down and just enjoy the show.

A random picture of fireworks won’t conjure memories of that awful Murphy’s Law feeling when you unwittingly sit behind a tree that blocks your view. It also can’t portray the surprise you feel when some tough guy sitting next to you wells up in tears staring at the sky. A misfired picture can’t trap the solemn magic of celebrating something with friends, family, and strangers, all with their eyes lit up in wonder over something so simple.

There’s a time and a place for fireworks pictures, but unless you’re at Disney World getting Cinderella’s castle in the background, know that fireworks pictures — much like photos of food and your open laptop — are the kind of thing people will see once and never look at again. Don’t let getting the perfect fireworks pictures make you feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind, because no one’s looking at your fireworks pictures anyway.

More Pictures From Gigi and Bella Hadid’s Crazy Sexy V Magazine Shoot

gigi-bella-hadid-v-magazine-picture

It was only a matter of time before modeling’s sister act of the moment, Gigi and Bella Hadid, got together for a shoot. The twosome got steamy for V Magazine‘s most recent issue, posing inside and on the cover.

The shots play up Gigi as a blond and Bella as raven-haired, but other than that, the Patti Wilson styling keeps the girls pretty similar. The picture of both girls lying on the floor in nearly matching black bondage lingerie was the first to get the web buzzing.

Both sisters are part of this generation’s social supers, with big Instagram and Twitter followings. They leveraged their numbers for this shoot, big-time, with some clever back-and-forth as well as sharing the heck out of the pics.

The main cover shows G and B in skimpy black-and-white suits with matching thigh-high stockings, but an alternative, posted by Gigi, shows her younger sister covered up in a furry topper.

Mayim Bialik Wants To See Pictures Of Your Cat

Please share pictures of your cats with Mayim Bialik.

“The Big Bang Theory” star, neuroscientist and animal advocate has teamed up with PetSmart Charities to help dispel negative stereotypes about cats and the people who love them. (C’mon, don’t pretend you’ve never heard the term “crazy cat lady” used in a bad way!)

To support this effort, she’s asking folks to post pictures on Twitter and Instagram of themselves and their cats being awesome, using the hashtag #meowOUT.

The aim of this image-improvement campaign is to get more shelter cats into homes. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, some 3.4 million cats enter U.S. animal shelters every year. As of now, fewer than half of them make it out.

“I think it’s important to realize that a lot of those stereotypes about what cats are like and what cat people are like are not legitimate,” Bialik told The Huffington Post by phone, speaking from this weekend’s gathering of all things feline, CatConLA.

“It’s especially important, as a science-y person and a person who cares about the environment and the animals in it, to realize that cats are out there waiting to be adopted,” she added.

Bialik has already participated in the campaign, posting pictures of her own cats, Esau and Frances.

Meanwhile, perhaps the best indication of Bialik being a completely sane cat person: Tempted as she is by CatConLA’s many adoptable kittens, she said she loves Esau and Frances enough not to bring home a new furry friend right now.

“I’ve had cats my whole life. I’ve had adopted cats my whole life,” she said. “[But] my house is under construction and my cats cannot take any more confusion.”

She said she would welcome her character on “The Big Bang Theory” taking in a feline friend, but said, “I don’t know if it will happen.”

10 Must-See Pictures From Louis Vuitton’s Resort Show in Palm Springs

louis-vuitton-resort-2016-show-palm-springs-bob-hope-house

The desert outside of Los Angeles got a whole lot chicer last night when Louis Vuitton descended on the legendary Bob Hope estate in Palm Springs to show its resort 2016 collection. The evening was rife with major fashion moments that happened on the runway, plus celebrity spottings and a carnival-themed after-party.

Tough met soft in a powerful way thanks to cut-at-the-waist leather jackets styled with flowing maxiskirts.

The style world’s collective obsession with sneakers doesn’t appear to be going anywhere—which, awesome! Another thing about this look? The print is crafted all of sequins.

Itsy-bitsy shorts, seen here in leather, made models’ legs look a mile long.

The folksy feel that permeated the location popped up on the runway too, in ground-sweeping, high-neck gowns that felt like a high-fashion Little House on the Prairie moment.

It’s worth putting money on the fact that this beauty will be coming to a red carpet sometime soon. A figure-hugging silhouette and a raised croc print begging to be touched are too good not to be shown off.

When I Was a Kid, We Took Pictures With Cameras

We all know there’s more than one downside to the omnipresent smartphone–the invention of the ‘selfie’, the calloused thumbs, the inability to bullshit our way through a discussion about, well, anything that can be Googled.

But you know what my favorite upside is? The ability to take a picture at any given moment. No, I’m not talking about catching a nominee for the ‘People of Wal-Mart’ blog; I’m talking about taking pictures of my kids.

2014-12-06-IMG_4837.JPG

The truth is, I really didn’t take any pictures at all before I succumbed to the allure of that sleek rectangular gadget. In fact, everything I’ve learned about photography has indirectly been the result of stumbling across a photo app a few years ago. Now that I’m able to take photos at any given moment, countless events that were once seemingly insignificant (like, uh, dental visits) have been captured on-the-fly, off-the-cuff, and even in middle of the street. The fact is, even if I had owned a camera, those spur-of-the-moment memories would likely have never been immortalized had I not been wielding my trusty iPhone.

2014-12-06-IMG_2094.JPG

So the next time someone collides into me on the street whilst checking Facebook, I’m going to think about that perfect photo of my kid–the one that was taken by a phone, the one that’s going be sitting on the mantle for the next six years, and yes, even the one that’s going to be sitting on a hard drive for the next sixteen.

2014-12-06-IMG_2307.JPG

Sure, I’ll likely succumb to carpal tunnel syndrome within the next year or two and end up with the permanent posture of someone decades older than me, but that hike we took on our family vacation? It holds a permanent place via some pixels in square form.

2014-12-06-IMG_2092.JPG

And when I’m in line for a coffee and the guy in front of me is haphazardly ordering a chai tea latte with almond milk and an extra pump of chai while day trading stocks, instead of whacking him upside the head, I’ll just take it as a trade-off. He gets to be obnoxious, I get to remember that look on my daughter’s face when she’s grown, and maybe her kids will get to know her a little bit better because of it.

2014-12-06-IMG_6794.JPG

Admittedly, not all of the disadvantages involve other people, and the perceived urgency my phone causes in me is distressing. It’s just slightly possible that I don’t need to take my phone in with me every time I use the bathroom. And it’s probably a good idea to actually interact with my kids in addition to getting the perfect shot for Instagram.

2014-12-06-IMG_2271.JPG

Maybe, if I’m lucky, my kids will take up photography. Or at least look back on the photos I’ve taken and appreciate them. It’s possible that in a few short years they will have their own phones and will be telling me to go stand in front of some foggy woodland scene so they can post it somewhere. I certainly hope so. I’ll try not to be annoyed.

It is a symbolical and literal cleansing of the body and soul aimed at preventing misfortune and bad luck, including sickness or havoc caused by daily activities and sins.

The Chicago-based Thomas More Society has set up the Nativity scene, drawing criticism from those who say such displays amount to an unconstitutional endorsement by the state of a religion. Capitol administrator Bob Ripley said that the Thomas More Society applied and received permission to set up the display in the building’s rotunda.
