Playboy Names America’s 25 Sexiest Cities, New York Tops The List

Forget the best cities in the country. Playboy magazine released its list ranking America’s 25 Sexiest Cities on Wednesday and we’re already contemplating a move.

According to the magazine, the list was determined by two separate polls that looked at metrics including nightlife, general lifestyle habits and “an undercurrent of desire.” So it’s not exactly scientific.

New York City ranked #1 on the list, mainly because its residents were into “kinky” things and a LOT of sex. “The people are hot, the sex is prime quality and the frequency is high, averaging 138 times per year,” wrote Playboy. Considering NYC has the Museum of Sex and a topless book club, we have to agree with the ranking.

Scroll down to look at the cities that made the top 10 and head over to Playboy to see the rest:

’80s Singer Tiffany Reveals What Could Have Been Her Stage Name And Why She Posed For ‘Playboy’ (VIDEO)

Only a handful of stars are well known by simply one name. Madonna. Prince. Cher. And, as fans of 1980s teen pop music would be quick to point out, Tiffany.

Three decades ago, Tiffany rose to fame with such hits as “Could’ve Been” and her famous cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now.” But long before the single-named celeb sold four million copies of her debut album, she was just 10-year-old Tiffany Darwish singing in bars in Nashville.

“I wasn’t really allowed to be there, so it was a quick little get-up-and-do-a-little-jam,” Tiffany tells “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” in the above video. “Nobody really wanted to give me a record deal. They were kind of like, ‘Come back when you’re older.'”

A few years later, Tiffany met George Tobin, who would become her producer, and her career as an artist was starting to take shape. The first order of business? Choosing her name.

“They were going to call me Tiffany Williams at first. My last name, Darwish… that’s just not acceptable!” she says with a laugh. “I kind of just said, ‘What about just Tiffany?'”

Then 15, Tiffany embarked on tour of shopping malls across America, where her sudden popularity soon created total chaos. “When it got to be bigger than life and people were actually being shoved against barricades and it wasn’t safe and we were actually being shut down, I actually started crying,” she says.

After her debut album hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts, Tiffany felt pressure to continue that momentum. “The next album, you’re rushed in the studio to re-record something and get it out there as soon as possible,” she explains. “It kind of lost some of its charm.”

She continued putting out albums, but never quite had the same commercial success as her initial release. Tiffany’s music career went through a few more ups and downs over the next several years. As she matured and evolved as an artist, Tiffany later became determined to shed the “teen queen” image that came with fame.

“I think I’ve always been put in a box, that I’m Tiffany, the girl from the mall tour,” she says. “Then I did Playboy.”

In 2002, Tiffany posed nude for the magazine, to the shock of many. But, as the 43-year-old wife and mother now explains, she had several clear reasons for doing it.

“I was actually going through a divorce — it rocks your world. It takes your confidence away,” she says. “[Posing for Playboy] was a quick confidence-booster. And, it was shock value.

“Everybody wants to talk to me,” Tiffany continues. “If I can turn that into music and go, ‘Yeah, remember that little thing I do…?’, it works.”

“Oprah: Where Are They Now?” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET, and returns with all-new episodes in February. Find OWN on your TV.

How Supermodel Lily Aldridge Discovered Her Mom Was A Playboy Playmate (VIDEO)

Supermodel Lily Aldridge isn’t the only famous face in her family. Her mother Laura was a Playboy Playmate in the 1970s, as Aldridge found out when rooting around her father’s studio as a child.

“I found out because my dad’s an artist,” she told HuffPost Live’s Josh Zepps on Monday. “So I was in his studio rifling around, causing trouble, and I come across a Playboy. And I’m like, ‘Oh my God, Dad is cheating on Mom. He’s got Playboy.'”

“So I run upstairs and I’m like, ‘Mom, Dad’s cheating on you! He has Playboy!’ And she [responded], ‘Well, I’m in it.'”

Aldridge said she was fascinated by her mother’s photos, which were for the magazine’s February 1976 issue.

“She showed me and I was like, ‘Wow, this is so cool.’ The next day I told all my friends and couldn’t have been more proud. My [older] brother was traumatized, but I thought it was awesome,” the Victoria’s Secret Angel said.

Playboy Will Release A Whole Issue Shot By Terry Richardson

Terry Richardson, the prominent photographer who has been accused of sexual harassment by several models, will shoot an entire issue of Playboy, which is set to come out in early 2015.

Richardson previewed some NSFW images from the issue, titled “California Dreamin,'” on his blog Friday.

A Playboy spokeswoman told Jezebel that “Yes, Terry has shot for the magazine many times over the years, and has been a great partner.” As the website notes, not everyone is so eager to embrace Richardson these days; the shoe company Aldo parted ways with him in June as the chorus of complaints grew louder.

Richardson recently defended himself as part of a feature story in New York Magazine that drew plenty of criticism.

Dear Market Researcher, I’m Gay — Stop Sending Playboy Subscription Offers!

This offer arrived in the mail the other day from Playboy‘s Market Research Department:

2014-06-20-playboy.JPG

Dear Domenick Scudera,

To attract readers with preferred demographics, you have been selected to receive this courtesy. As a special incentive, the price is reduced down as low as we are allowed, giving you a full year of Playboy for a token $ 12.

A sampling of my friends’ responses:

  • “I hear the articles are good.”
  • “Wasn’t this on your wedding registry?”
  • “I think the label has a misprint — it should read ‘…to a token,12.'”
  • “Oh, c’mon. Everyone knows gay men love women.”
  • “Did u forget to tell us something?”

Gay acceptance has reached new heights if 49-year-old, recently married gay men are one of Playboy‘s “preferred demographics.” I feel blessed that Playboy has extended me this courtesy, one that I never would have received back in the days when gays were being denied equality.

The offer says that I will get the “beyond-beautiful women, obviously.” In addition, they believe that I will “appreciate the award-winning journalism and no-holds-barred interviews” in every “smoking hot issue.” The fine print includes this guarantee: “Playboy always guarantees that if you are ever dissatisfied for any reason whatsoever you get a full refund on all unmailed issues.”

Dear Playboy,

I am somewhat dissatisfied with my subscription. Don’t get me wrong. There is a lot to admire in your magazine: The articles and interviews are terrific, and the women are, obviously, beyond beautiful. However, I would enjoy more male nudity in my magazines. Please refund me the amount of my unmailed issues, until you are prepared to give me some smoking-hot maleness.

Thanks,
Domenick

This is not the first time I have received an offer for heterosexual porn. When I was 7 years old, I innocently opened up a plain, white envelope addressed to me. There was a series of pictures of naked women with their legs spread wide, and before I knew what was happening, my mother leaped across the room, wrestled the envelope out of my hands and appeared to have some trouble breathing. The next thing I knew, she was on the phone, complaining to someone, trying to make sure I never received offers like this again. Who did she call? The Post Office? The Better Business Bureau? President Nixon? I have no idea, but whoever it was, she was ineffective. I received more offers for years. She carefully monitored my mail until I was well into my college years.

Were 7-year-old gay boys one of the “preferred demographics” for Screw?

Most likely, these marketing departments have misidentified me. This is a problem I encounter often. For instance, when I watch television, the advertisers assume that I am a heavyset, single female on her period. I gather this from the fact that most of the commercials are for weight-loss supplements, dating sites and tampons.

About an hour after I received the Playboy offer, a pleasant young woman knocked on our front door with an offer for educational books for our children. When I explained that we have dogs, not kids, she showed me the books anyway. Did I know that flamingos are pink because they eat shrimp, and that they would be white if they did not? No, I did not. This is educational, but my nonexistent children will not learn this, because I did not order any of the books.

Am I missing out? There might be other interesting factoids in those books, and Playboy‘s “no-holds-barred interviews” might offer some insights. But for now, I think I will hold on to my gay dollars for another day.
